This album is a triumph. It feels like a younger sibling to folklore, as it's more whimsical and takes more daring steps. It has an even nicer flow than the folklore, with Champagne problems, Evermore, and Marjorie as standouts.

This album did justice to folklore. Folklore was all about slowed down songs, with the best lyric and storyline. On the other hand, evermore has the perfected the lyric, production, song selection and all. It also has some upbeat songs which makes this album so precious.

It's a beautiful album on both lyrics and instruments sides, its may sounds a little bit like Folklore because Taylor says this is the continue story about The Folklore forest, but when you listen carefully, you will realize that the words, the feeling in this album is more "gentle" and harder than from Folklore. However, you should listen to this masterpiece!

When folklore came out, I never thought that Taylor would be able to release something that would match up to it but she has proven me wrong with this album. One can see the similarities between the two sister records but the two are very different. Evermore is definitely a more upbeat album and I'm all here for it!

Anyway, this is not a gift horse to be looked in the mouth. “Evermore,” like its mid-pandemic predecessor, feels like something that’s been labored over — in the best possible way — for years, not something that was written and recorded beginning in August, with the bow said to be put on it only about a week ago. Albums don’t get graded on a curve for how hastily they came together, or shouldn’t be, but this one doesn’t need the handicap. It’d be a jewel even if it’d been in progress forevermore and a day. One would think that folklore's little sister would have a hard time following up the magical woodland tales that folklore is. However, Taylor managed to explore these dreamy sceneries even deeper with evermore and creates a safe space for the listener that makes the hard times we are living in currently seem easier to comprehend. It feels like a comfort blanket that you put over when the weather and the thoughts get colder and darker and is the definition of escapism. It's nostalgia on a whole different level and somehow it's a mix between looking back on the past, reflecting today and being hopeful for the future.
Taylor was not scared to try new sounds and back further away from her American pop girl image. This album is adult and wiser and even though the concept is similar to folklore, it stands for it’s own and it grows with every listen. The lyrics seem more like beautiful poems than songs and it's definitely worth to take the time to fully understand what she's actually trying to express rather than just listen to it on the fly. Taylor once again proved that her ability to create a different world with her words is unmatched and incomparable to other artists for over a decade now and doesn't lose quality through quantity.
Evermore is the perfect closing track and captures the gut wrenching, heart-stopping waves of hurt that come to you when you listen to the album front-to-back in a hauntingly enchanting way. Needless to say that Taylor found the perfect producers in Jack and Aaron, the trinity is a match made in heaven and it really seems like a collective body of work. It's just as much Jack's and Aaron's album as it is Taylor's because you can feel their sonic influence more than you usually can on records.
    Evermore is her legacy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The opening track and lead single, willow, is a great song, it has much more potential than cardigan and is definitely a step into the right direction. The entirety of this album is often compared to folklore, if so, this definitely blew its sister out of the wind; to sum it up, evermore is mature, folklore is innocent. The storytelling focuses on much mature subjects, like murder on “no body, no crime”. Swift has made an irreversibly good decision to change paces from pop to alternative from folklore, and now she’s digging deeper. One or two songs may be a little slow for my liking, but nevertheless it’s a cohesive album with a top tier opener and closer, evermore, the title track, stands out with the lyricism, change of tempo and Bon Iver. Some of my favorites would be champagne problems and ‘tis the damn season (which was unexpected). I will definitely be listening to this and folklore for the next few months nonstop. Expand

First listen, i loved Willow and No body no crime and dorothea. then i noticed how 'tis the damn season. ıts guitar solo is fantastic and the lyrics are always on top! taylor said herself that its sisters with folklore, so the critics should count that as a choice and a part 2 of folklore. the story is over now with this album.

This is the proof of her unbelievably talented song writing skills. To compare this one folklore. I dont know what to say. Folklore is still a little POP. But this album is totally alternative

Another absolute stunner from Swift this year. It's like folklore, but wilder and more experimental. Some say she's trying things out of her comfort zone, but to me it sounds like she's finally found her sound. She's a shape-shifter who's successfully managed to absolutely dominate country and pop, but even her most successful songs from her first seven albums pale in comparison to the newest two. With each era we wondered if she hit her peak, and each time she proved our doubts wrong. But with the albums she put out this year, it feels like we hadn't even caught a GLIMPSE of her true potential before. Straying from her usual diaristic approach has forced everyone to stop using her songs as objects of speculation for her personal life, and shift the lens to her songs so we can finally see them for what they always were at their heart - stunning, flawless works of storytelling art. Folklore and Evermore are remarkable in every possible way and I hope she stays on this road for a little longer, but if there's anything I've learned about Taylor, we'll receive an extraordinary body of work either way. The album is so sonically cohesive and Taylor's story-telling and lyrics remain unmatched. marjorie is a particular favorite of mine, with Taylor's vulnerability used to the very best and it made me miss my own grandmother.

This album is a grower. You may not totally feel yourself vibing to it on the first listen, but after listening to the album a couple more times, you may realise yourself humming to it or, “Hey, this song is quite catchy,” or “Okay, I decided to choose pain today,” because with Taylor Swift’s master lyricism, it’s a great way to delve into the city of pain.

The follow-up to Folklore is not a new world but a shift, looking at other characters, other stories and still remaining in the world of wilderness that Swift has created. We open with Willow, the way she drops her vocal when singing world like 'hollow' makes it catchy, slightly edgy but mostly peaceful. This whole albums melodies are simple and refined.

We open with Willow, the way she drops her vocal when singing world like 'hollow' makes it catchy, slightly edgy but mostly peaceful. This whole albums melodies are simple and refined.

Swift is a story teller, and there is no better track that embodies that than No Body No Crime, it goes back to her country roots and showcases (better than she ever has before) how a story can be full, melodic, and shocking all within only a few minutes. Your first listen you cannot help but be captivated by the story unfolding - and that's what a good book does, draws you in and makes you care about the characters... usually this takes 100 pages or so and Swift managed it in 3 minutes and 35 seconds.

Other stand out songs are the heart shattering Tolerate It which depicts an unbalanced relationship whereby one party is so much more invested than the other, that she will make herself everything she thinks he wants and yet still - her love is merely tolerated. The hurt is is in her voice as sings.

The final spotlight song is Champagne Problems, This song switches roles, it uses the idea of the characters in Tolerate it but instead it is the female protagonist in the story who was loved dearly but she didn't love him, and that eventually this man will forget her and the problems she caused because he will find someone who will love him as he was meant to be loved.

The album is rich with many incredible songs which I enjoyed however I can't help but think that if Swift had instead made one album with a mix of the standout tracks from each project that it would have been an even stronger piece of work. In these times though we take whatever we can for escapism and she certainly gave us that.

I believe this album is one of the very best she has ever made. The lyrics are amazing, also the stories of every song are deep and authentic. They are able to make you feel so many different emotions.

No words can do this album justice. Folklore was outstanding and evermore is going neck to neck with folklore and gets better every time I listen to it. If there’s a song you don’t like, it will grow on you. Great lyricism, great storytelling, chill vibes yet depressing. Great overall. Give it a listen, you won’t regret it.

One of Taylor Swift’s most lyrically efficient and melodically pleasing albums to date! A journey that demands your attention for a reunion of stories told to you like that of a good friend. It is without question a wintering record, but out of this muted musical landscape songs of great and complex beauty emerge. [Mar 2021, p.34]

Even though we get a catchy moment of goofy, snarling country midway through, the album is a result of the emotional clarity that a year in quarantine provided. Swift has written about curdling relationships splendidly in the past, but there's a new dimension to her writing that wasn’t there before. Onward.
