Mar 27, 2025Unexpected diversions into country honk (Cold Hearted Woman, Hot On My Tail) and cinematic balladry (Weekend In Rome) may also raise eyebrows among diehards. But when the storm clouds clear, the band's innate pop sensibilities shine as brightly as ever. [Apr 2025, p.76]

Mar 27, 2025Dreams on Toast has the same stadium rock credentials as the mega-hit Permission to Land. Guitarist Justin Hawkins’s vocals are a bit more subdued, but he still croons and belts with a natural swagger. His brother, guitarist Dan Hawkins, delivers solid riffs anchored by the strong rhythm section of bassist Frankie Poullain and drummer Rufus Taylor.

Apr 9, 2025There are still some hilarious bon mots to be found throughout, but now there's a sense of maturity and creative evolution that's starting to creep over Justin Hawkins and the gang, adding depth to their catalog whether they intended it or not.

MojoMar 27, 2025Dreams On Toast's music is much less nuanced and thought-provoking - but that's no slur. [May 2025, p.86]

Mar 27, 2025Difficult to dislike. The knowing wink may feel a bit strained as the crow's feet deepen, but it will coax your face into a smile more often than not.

Apr 2, 2025It’s a pity much of the record abandons gravitas for pub-rock grooves, and with the two-punch finale “Walking Through Fire” and “Weekend in Rome”, Dreams on Toast ends on a predictably fiery note. What surprises are heard on this record are few and far between, but hardcore fans will enjoy the grandeur and sense of ceremony that cements it.
