With this album, Neale manages to translate existential torment into strange and beautiful sounds, yet again progressing with the chimerical vision of rock & roll that's uniquely her own.

Altogether Stranger is a significant upgrade and these dystopian but hopeful, image-drenched songs are surely the way ahead for an artist who's becoming special. [Jun 2025, p.82]

While oscillating between these conflicting states, Neale delivers her near-apocalyptic songs with eloquence and sangfroid. If Altogether Stranger is Neale bidding adieu to Los Angeles, then it is an unforgettable farewell.

This is an explicitly fallen world and yet, with its "Super-8 mote" and "temples of tragic skyscrapers", one of strange Lynchian wonder. [Jul 2025, p.31]

Although a couple songs don't fully capture Neale's compositional skills, the closing track There From Here is a tremendous highlight. [Sep 2025, p.105]
