As much as I loathed Logan it tried to be a movie. This movie is the creative level of children writing in crayon and bashing action figures together.

Indeed, I did, and I thought the acting and production values were excellent. Yet, the plot didn't provide adequate closure. C'mon folks, the Avengers failed, and it also looks fairly good here. Expand

Ranking 'X Men: Apocalypse' alongside the other X Men films, it's for me third weakest. Better than 'Last Stand' and 'Origins' (though even they had merits), but not in the same ball park as 'X Men 2', 'First Class' and especially 'Days ofRanking 'X Men: Apocalypse' alongside the other X Men films, it's for me third weakest. Better than 'Last Stand' and 'Origins' (though even they had merits), but not in the same ball park as 'X Men 2', 'First Class' and especially 'Days of Future Past' (also preferred the solid if yet-to-find-its-feet-feel first film) and only just slightly under 'The Wolverine.'

There is a lot to like about 'X Men: Apocalypse'. It looks great, being very slickly filmed and photographed, production design being grittily atmospheric yet audacious, smoothly edited and with effective costumes and make-up. The special effects are of extremely good quality too, the much applauded big Quicksilver scene being particularly note worthy, and there is not an overload or underuse of them. John Ottman makes a welcome return to the series and his score is one of the more memorable and fitting (with that for 'Days of Future Past' getting first prize for the most) of the series since 'X Men 2'. The script provokes thought and doesn't make the mistake of rambling, while the action is dynamically choreographed, thrilling and emotionally charged on the whole.

For effective scenes, highlights do have to be a suspenseful and very arresting opening sequence and particularly Quicksilver's super speed life-saving scene, which is one of the series' most jaw-dropping. The story starts off really well and is very diverting with anything with Magneto. There are some terrific performances here, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender (whose character writing is the meatiest here) especially apply here and they make keep the story on point and from completely derailing. Sophie Turner shows off Jean Grey's conflicts and flaws very effectively and touchingly, while Evan Peters steals every scene as Quicksilver, Nicholas Hoult continues to be fine as Beast and Hugh Jackman makes a ferociously charismatic cameo.

Was mixed on Oscar Isaac (heavily made-up and unrecognisable) and Bryan Singer's direction. Actually Isaac's performance as villain Apocalypse himself is pretty decent and effectively menacing, but it's the clichéd and underwritten way in which Apocalypse is written that prevents Isaac from doing anything that special with the character that stops me from feeling more. People have said that Apocalypse here is more Ivan Ooze-clone than the character of the comic book, and it's easy to see why they would think that, this said Isaac does do a good enough job with what he had. Singer is at home in the style and the action, but when it comes to making the characters and story completely interesting and giving depth to them he isn't quite as confident as he was before, competent and stylistically classy but a bit bland.

'X Men: Apocalypse' suffers from being rather too overcrowded, with a fair bit going on and with lots of characters but effectiveness of executions varies wildly. Some good characterisation and great scenes, but a lack of constant dread and urgency and too many characters given short shrift, though nowhere near as badly as in 'Last Stand' and 'Origins'. The pacing is diverting at first but starts to drag once the plot gets more rambling and more bogged down by content. 'X Men: Apocalypse' includes comic relief and romance and they don't come off well, the comic relief is very goofy and at odds tonally with everything else and the romance is completely under-developed.

Jennifer Lawrence clearly looks bored too in a complete waste of Mystique, and Olivia Munn is underused and basically just eye-candy in a role that has little depth to her if at all.

In conclusion, uneven but still decent. 6/10 Bethany Cox

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Almost 180 million Dollars worth of bad cosplay and even worse dialogue. The only somewhat intriguing parts include the opening chapter, the final team line-up and introduction of the Danger Room, as well as a speedster's spectacular feats.

The most tragic event, Magneto's loss of his family, is cynically viewed as but a plot device to propel the story forward. And once again the horror of Ausschwitz is misappropriated by people who lack the intellectual ability to do anything enlightening with it.

A movie such as this, one featuring a multitude of newly-introduced "mutants" and warring ideologies, could only ever have succeeded with tight plotting, an intelligent script and confident production design. It lacks in all three accounts. Kinberg is a hack writer. Singer's propensity for casting young aspiring male actors is all the more troubling in light of the allegations of sexual misconduct that surround him.

The depiction of Arabs and Slavs is stereotypical, lacking in empathy, and all the more unfortunate seeing as how X-Men movies purport to deal with minority issues and xenophobia - though this cast of almost exclusively white heroes would suggest a white-washing of social issues, anyway.

Even the actors acknowledge that they're in a dud by phoning it in. Find another actor or actrice who hates their trademark franchise as much as Jennifer Lawrence hates X-Men at this point. Oscar Isaac is unrecognisable as the main villain, and gives an uninspiring performance. Rose Byrne is completely wasted, unfortunately. The only motivated actors would seem to be James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, and Magneto's tragic life makes him far too deep a character for this frequently campy film.

I lol'd hard at the sight of Wolverine's raggedy... jorts.

The MCU reboot can't come soon enough.

But when you rewatch it you realise that nothing makes sense. But for me, however, I only came to watch the CGI stuff. I haven't read the source material. Neither do I have any idea about who Apocalypse is and what he wants. So I'm gonna judge this movie entirely based on what happens in it, how the CGI is and how all the characters are. And trust me, it fails in half the things.

So first of all, I really liked the idea of an ancient mutant coming out of Egypt to learn about the current affairs and then deciding to take over the world. Though I wouldn't have given any points to this movie for this plot since it's a comic book adaptation, I will still give it extra points for showing it so nicely. Then there was the scene where Cyclops gets his powers. I don't know why, but I used to think this scene was from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. So after that there's a scene where Magneto is shown to have given up his previous life and started living as a family man, but the mutant hunters storm his house and kill his family. I really found that scene emotional.

But after that the movie started feeling like it's crumbling down. The same Apocalypse who saves Storm by using sand to cut down everyone's head suddenly decides to never use this power. And also, what is a Storm with a mowahawk even doing in Egypt? It was never said that she's from there. There is a cage match between Warren Worthington III and Nightcrawler, and Mystique comes over there to get Nightcrawler out of there. But it doesn't make sense. How was Nightcrawler even captured in the first place? Couldn't he just teleport out of the cage? Also Mystique is someone completely different this time. I know she can change her look, but even her original look changes.

And then there's of course the most iconic scene of this movie: Quicksilver saving all the kids from the explosion! But later on the whole point of that scene gets ruined when the army comes up and captures them anyway. They are transported into a secret lab, and guess what? Wolverine is also there. He was obviously brought in there for a scene that could be shown in the trailer, because then he's gone and lost forever. So anyway, Charles is captured by Apocalypse, the good guys fight the evil guys, something something happy ending and that's it.

Most of the scenes in X-Men: Apocalypse were forgettable. The memorable scenes, well, I forgot they were from this movie. To write this review I had to watch Honest Trailers and Cinemasins just to remember what all happened in this movie. Like I said before, I used to think Scott getting his powers in the middle of the class was from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I thought Quicksilver saving everyone was from Days of the Future Past. Same goes for the getting arrested scene, the Wolverine fight scene - I thought it was all from the prequel. Now I will have to edit my reviews for those movies too.

So, even without knowing much about the characters or their fictionalI am not very used to films that have characters from the comic book universe as their theme, but the quality and impact that some have had makes them a mandatory visit. So, even without knowing much about the characters or their fictional stories, I decided to watch the X-Men franchise films. This decision was followed by some reading about characters and films. I tried to follow more or less the chronological sequence of events, starting with the prequels.

This film follows the events of "Days of Future Past" and places the world again on the verge of an apocalypse when a millennial mutant wakes up from his sleep and decides to take the world for himself, and for a group of highly talented mutants that he will recruit.

Directed by Bryan Singer, it's a film that is not as good as the previous one, although it has a lot of good points. Critically edited, the film has a pleasant rhythm and has no dead moments but lost some quality by its average script, which starts from a good idea and fails to develop it. The connection to Ancient Egypt seems like an original and appealing way of introducing the story. Initially, I thought it sounded a little forced and out of place, but it ended up fitting in and making sense, in addition to allowing us an extraordinary opening scene, the most impactful of the franchise so far. The film has some memorable scenes, such as the rescue of the mansion's students while it explodes or the moment when Magneto confronts his childhood and devastates the concentration camp where he was imprisoned, but it also has badly used romantic sub-plots, almost forgotten amidst the action, and uninteresting humorous moments.

The cast is massively inherited from previous films and is composed of great actors, however it is easily felt that there are actors with very little to do and a lack of commitment and depth in the construction of the characters (probably due to the material given to the cast). The protagonist is the duo James McAvoy / Michael Fassbender and both actors shone. Sophie Turner, who gave life to Jean Gray, also had space and material to show her talent and Evan Peters revealed true charisma and brilliance. Hugh Jackman has a very brief appearance that links this film to his character's personal life story. Oscar Isaac gave life to the villain, a super-powerful millennial mutant committed to wiping out Humanity, but I didn't like what I saw: he is a really fearsome being, but he has a way of speaking and acting so affected that he seems overly artificial and theatrical. Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Ben Hardy, Alexandra Shipp, Olivia Munn, Lana Condor, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Lucas Till also appear in this film, but they have almost nothing to do and their roles are very limited. Jennifer Lawrence also seems to be left, not knowing what to do with her character, now that she has moved to the "good guys" side.

In addition to these merits, the film has excellent production values that should be highlighted. It is a Marvel film and there are huge millions of dollars involved, which is quite evident from the beginning. Visually it is a show in itself, with a very well thought out and conceived cinematography, in addition to great visual effects and the best CGI that money could buy. The scenes and action sequences are great and the effects are a bonus. As happened almost always in this franchise, the film has excellent scenarios and costumes, although I must advise everyone that the scenes related to Ancient Egypt are totally creative and there is not really an effort of historical rigor. I think it is fair to also greet the makeup department and the great soundtrack by John Ottman.

So as long the Movie is entertaining im Happy. Well the Movie is actually fun to watch but there are so many flaws that it really hurts the enjoyment while watching. The biggest problem is there is a lack of direction in the Story. There is no main Character. They try to solve the Problem with adding a lot known Names in the X-Man universe. This causes that the Movie is overpact with different character with different Story's and Problems. On sub-plot starts and than ends without an satisfying end, it just gets drooped. This causes the Movie to be to long and the is no person you can 100% connect with, even if they are Likable. The Actors play there role pretty well they just don't get enough to do. Best example is Apocalypse. Hes getting played brilliantly by Oscar Isaac but character itself is uninteresting. He has no real reason to destroying the Humans. The Motivation is that hes just Evil. An more Boring Villain cannot be created. But Quicksilver is an small highlight with his scene where he is saving everyone. Also the end showdown is also an small disappointing. It is trend that the Showdown in an Blockbuster Movie an massive use of CGI has. At some Movie i don't Mind that but here it was Simply to Much. The Director Bryan Singer has shown that he can direct beautiful scenes where Mutants use there Power against Humans but the fight Mutants against Mutants is unspectacular. It simply didn't worked for me. The Movie just had no real direction. I didn't expected much but jet it is still disappointed me. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie never failed to make me laugh at the very thought of the situation it was displaying and the dialogue it chose utilise. Problem of course being that is not a comedy movie. I am a big fan of the X Men prequels specifically, but I just have trouble understanding the motivation for a lot of the decisions made in this film. Why is Moira completely clueless? Why is she the one who accidently starts the apocalypse? Why doesn't anybody bother to name Erik's wife? Why were Erik's wife and daughter there, if only to be killed and not brought up again past act 1?

Somehow those decisions are not the worst part of Apocalypse. No, that definitely belongs to the category of decisions that have motivations, just either stupid or non storyline based ones. Ex: Moira being brought back into the story, which despite never being mentioned in Days of Future Past, was just because they needed to bring back Charles's obligatory female love interest. Why does Erik have a wife and child, if they don't even get a personality? Well, similar
ly, they just needed that sweet sweet domestically foiled character motivation. Why is Erik Peter's father? Gotta have that DRAMA. Why does Alex seemingly die? Maybe character motivation for Scott, though it didn't really seem like he needed any more. Stil I was having fun until one very particular decision was made in this movie:
How Charles Xavier lost his hair. But we’ll get back to that.

Moira MacTaggart was a completely unnecessary part of this film. Wanna know what she does throughout it? Goes “Wow” and “this is so cool”. In First Class, she at least had a personality, and she felt NEEDED to an extent for the story. Why is she here? Well Were just kinda supposed to believe that Charles has actually been hung up on her for, what, 15 years? Despite never mentioning her in Days of Future Past. First Class itself seemed to realise how unnecessary their relationship would be, sending Moira off with a wiped memory as a way out. We see this complete lack of necessariness in the very DRAMATIC moment where Charles gives Moira her memory back of the two of them. Memory being singular. Why? Oh, cause, y’know, they kissed one time. ONCE. For contrast, when Erik reminisces on his relationship with Charles, we are shown a whole two and half memories of them together, and the filmmakers don’t depict THEM of being in a relationship! MAKE IT MAKE SENSE! Moira could have never come up again and I would not have cared, I feel like most people wouldn’t have, but no, Charles needed that obligatory love interest, so we get Moira MacTaggart, who now has a child we’ve never seen, and is amazed by literally everything, which don’t even get me started on how THAT ruins the very bare bones of a character she had in First Class. Now I don't know if you know this, but Charles Xavier is bald in the non prequel films when he is old. Now any logical person would just (rightfully) assume he lost his hair naturally due to aging. But oh no, apparently the execs at Fox decided this was a fan theorised mystery that needed answers. "HOW DID CHARLES LOSE HIS HAIR?' you may have seen no Reddit thread titled ever, y'know, cause no one cared. Well! Answers my good people! Charles lost his hair because an ancient entity tried to take over his body! This makes no sense and ultimately solidifies this movie as a knee slapping comedy. When we see Apocalypse take over Oscar Isaac's body in the beginning, he is bald, but he is bald BEFORE apocalypse. Can apocalypse not exist in a body with hair? Why? How could Charles keep his eyebrows and stubble? Where did the hair go, it didn't fall out, it seems to turn to dust like everything else Apocalypse used his power on, why? Does apocalypse really hate hair that much? Did the filmmakers not realise how Mr. Clean like James McAvoy would look bald? Like yeah he's been bald in other movies bald that doesn't make it a good idea. WHY? DID? THEY? MAKE? HIM? BALD? Overall I had one take away: If I were any actor in this movie, I would be pissed. The performances are AMAZING, especially from James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, but it just can’t save this piece of garbage. Whether this was an introduction or a long awaited conclusion of sorts, no one deserved to be given this piece of trash to work in, except definitely Bryan Singer. I would say this film being as terrible as it is is most likely in part karma from the gods for Bryan Singer, any other explanation can not offer enough grounds for making THIS BAD of a film.

A step down from the previous movie, suffers from a lame villain and over cgi elements. The x men are fine but it drags on and becomes dull.

This movie aimed at being bigger and better than the previous films, but it crumbles under its own weight. It's spectacle above all else, there is little like the charm and themes of First Class and Days of Future Past.

En Sabah Nur is one of the biggest baddies in Marvel's comic book stories. In the comics he makes use of alien technology on top of his mutant powers, but in this movie he is changed into a mutant who reincarnates himself and transfers his mind whenever his body gets old, gaining new powers if he uses the body of another mutant. Essentially he is a multi-powered mutant and immortal.

Problem is, the movie's story is very simplistic and cliché, a madman wants to conquer the planet and become a tyrant. Yeah, we've heard stories like this before. Magneto is angry at humans again. Even Quicksilver's slow motion showcase doesn't excite as much as the scene in Days of Future Past. Only Magneto gets some character development through his personal tragedy. The rest ain't developed at all.

En Sabah Nur/Apocalypse is such a big threat that even his servants turn on him and join the X-Men, but he can withstand all their physical attacks while fighting Professor X telepathically at the same time, this fight scene in the astral plane is actually my favorite. But all it took to beat Apocalypse was a young Jean Grey who unleashed her Phoenix power while screaming in the most ridiculously anime-like way, and Apocalypse is fried dead.

X-Men: Apocalypse is not a bad movie, but it's a bit disappointing. Having seen Jean Grey make a splash here, let's wait and see what happens in the upcoming Dark Phoenix movie.

I would have to say this is the X-Men film in which the source material was most accurate. There are of course some blemishes, such as cheesy one-liners, Mystique hiding her blue-skin for fear of being recognized as well some characters being under-utilized, but if this had been the follow up to X2 back in 2006 fans and critics would be cheering. This film captured everything I loved about X-Men as a child, and though it may not have the full tour-de-force a Marvel Cinematic Universe film would have, it works.

Each X-Men Film creates a full chapter and makes the audience anticipate what will happen in the next. The critics mostly have been harsh on the fact the main villains are always mutants, however this speaks to the voice of what the X-Men are; people constantly trying to maintain peace within the World and in their own community. I am glad in the change in direction and the risk at making a fan serviced X-Men movie rather than a rehash of what worked in the past.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse is a film that gets a lot of mixed to negative reviews. Honestly, I think this is a pretty good film. I loved the characters, especially Evan Peters' Quicksilver, Michael Fassbender's Magneto, and James McAvoy's Charles Xavier. I even enjoyed that Weapon X cameo. Overall this film gets more hate than it deserves and I would say it's about an 8.6/10 Expand

I give this movie 10/10 for branching elements for the plot properly, and the re-introduction of characters, and a film that's worthy for it's revised future. Not to mention those Quicksilver scenes, catching Nightcrawler's attention, and Apocalypse being the REAL first mutant villain. Just one flaw, the X-Men franchise still cannot make Archangel an X-Man. Expand

Expand

There have been some great films like Days of Future Past, and some pretty bad ones like X-Men Origins, and and I dear say this falls towards the bad side. Boasting a great cast, led by James McEvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, and some great characters, this movie ends up being an underwhelming and very frustrating film. However, it also manages to spice up some memorable moments, in particular, a scene involving Quicksilver (you probably have an idea of what I'm talking about).

The movie lacks in several areas, with one standing out the most being the plot. The plot is very simple yet bloated at the same time. At times, it starts to get confusing. Another downside is the misuse of some of the cast, in particular, Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. Apocalypse doesn't seem the least bit menacing or frightening, and Jennifer Lawrence, who feels much underused in the context of the story. Only to add to some of the negatives, some of the other characters feel very forgettable, such as Angel and Psylocke. In all honesty, they weren't very much interesting

The final battle was good, though a little underwhelming, which had the occasional wince of bad CGI. Magneto's transformation was by far the best of all the characters, and probably one of the only sides of the story you can get emotionally involved in. Fassbender did really well in his performance, especially given he had quite a change in character throughout the movie. McEvoy, as usual, was great as Professor X, and some of the young newcomers proved they are capable of being part of a massive blockbuster. It's a movie worth watching as it is fun and enjoyable ride, but make sure you enter with low expectations.

Fassbender is destroying his rep by being in garbage like this and Assassins Creed. He's such a good actor though, such shame. Movies like this are going some way to killing the genre. Please let this franchise die after Logan.
Moving forward I think Lord and Miller would make a good choice to re-boot X-Men. Burn everything that's been created so far to the ground and give them absolute creative control and we might be onto something.

Essentially it's aApocalypse gives us the first X-Men movie to feature a classic lineup of the characters coming together in their teenage years to fight evil under the guidance on Prof. Xavier while not being overshadowed by Wolverine. Essentially it's a close as we've gotten to the X-Men film we've all wanted for years now. However given how many steps forward the superhero movie genre has taken over the years, and Brian Singer's reliance on standard tropes, Apocalypse ends up being an odd mixture of better late than never, and too little, too late.

There's a lot to like about Apocalypse. We get the return of the great cast from First Class and DoFP like Fassbender and McAvoy, Sophie Turner's Jean Grey, Evan Peters continually enjoyable Quicksilver complete with more of those amazing super-speed action sequences, and it doesn't crap all over Cyclops. It's got some of the best portrayals of these X-Men characters we've seen onscreen so far. The interpretations still aren't perfect mind you. DoFP couldn't fix everything, so things like age and timeline discrepancies keep things from being just as every comic book fan wants to see it. Nothing short of a reboot of the series will fix that. However, this is still the best we've gotten so far in that department.

Given that Apocalypse seemingly does so much right by making good on the promise DoFP set the series up for, what keeps it from achieving greatness? That answer is simply that it's too familiar. With the MCU dominating theatres, the DCEU getting up and running, and the X-Men's own lengthy presence on the silver screen we've seen a lot of villains want to destroy the world. And quite frankly, they were more interesting than Apocalypse.

The movie just has a very bland villain. Plus we already know how the fight turns out, so Apocalypse just ends up coming off as some dude who isn't really a threat whose sole purpose is just to break stuff. Then there's how underdeveloped he is.

The action itself falls short as well. This is a bunch of special effects driven destruction. The likes of which we've seen in a lot of superhero films lately. Not even the constant display and barrage of these character's powers carries the same level of excitement as before. The action still isn't boring to watch, but it's certainly going through the established motions. Then there's the fact that a lot of these special effects look cheap and dated, particularly in the first half of the movie.

What hurts Apocalypse the most is simply superhero fatigue. Brain Singer and FOX do their best to give us the X-Men movie we should've received in the first place all those years ago. For the most part they succeed. The issue it's a little late to do that. The superhero genre has taken off and reached heights one could hardly believe. Going back to basics wounds them here. They got off to their post-DoFP timeline with a shaky start.

Does any of this mean Apocalypse is an outright bad movie? No, it's just behind the times. A flaw that's easier to forgive when you consider this is a close as we've come to that perfect X-Men lineup. There's a sort of classic X-Men feel to it and it's just nice to see a lot of the original characters like Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and Storm get some real screen-time and actually take part in the action without Hugh Jackman's Wolverine hogging the spotlight. So yeah, it's the most admirable attempt at giving us the perfect X-Men movie that's sadly flawed in key areas. For some this simply isn't going to be enough. For others like myself this will still be a respectable and enjoyable movie. One that still manages to entertain for (finally!) exploring other, original X-Men. The series things to make up for, but it certainly looks like they're trying. The future still has the potential to be bright for these characters.

The story is quite predictable and basically nothing new, plus the movie was so hyped and in the end it felt over the top and nothing new really. I guess it would be great in the cinema, but just casually watching, when you don't feel the 3D or big screen effects, it loses it's appeal. Expand

This is the single biggest problem with all these superhero franchises, the ending is never in doubt, and it's all saccharin at the end which makes it that much worse. The actors were there only for the pay, there was little to no effort exhibited on their part. I'd give this an even lower score but the sfx were top notch. Expand

Another ancient power was awoken and blah blah blah.

I have seen almost all the superhero films of the recent time, but this is the franchise I never liked. I'm sorry to say that, but that's the truth. The 'X-Men' series never made me sense, particularly to say it from the Marvel comics is a disappointment. When it comes to 'Wolverine', my opinion is different, because I loved those films. Hugh Jackman as Logan is the only 'X-Men' I love, so like usual this is another waste of time from its series to me.

I even enjoyed the recently rebooted 'Fantastic Four', but not this one. There's nothing new in the story, it's the same plot stolen from the different films. Like an ancient force is awoken who tries to rule the world by destroying everything created so far by the humans. So the mutants join hands to bring him down and we know what happens at the end. Apart from the vfx, this is very boring film and 150 minutes runtime was another lengthy joke that you never laugh.

Not just me, many people, even 'X-Men' fans showed displeasure over this film. That means, Bryan Singer's stint with the franchise is pretty much over. So they will going to bring a new one and that's another disappointment, because I don't know how long they're going to drag this series. End it already. Anyway, like I said I never was or will be this universe fan, so I don't care much, rather I just give them a try when they get released and obviously I'm to end in regret watching. Instead, I'm looking forward to the final 'Wolverine' film with Hugh Jackman.

Not a great X-men movie but a good watch. I enjoyed the 3D aspects and, as always, the slowdown musical interludes.

I wanted this to love up to First Class but it fell just short.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Right, where do I even begin.

The movie is incredibly dumbed down and the script was equally flawed.

Magneto allowed himself to be captured by ordinary people, whilst he could have ended it right there and then with his super powers. Instead he surrenders (what?) which triggered clumsiness that resulted in the loss of his family. He chose a simple life at a factory to keep a low profile. Since he's raising a a family now you'd think he'd use his abilities to accomplish a better life for them and still keep a low profile. But again, common sense is not welcome in this movie.

For some reason Angel and Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler) are captured by ordinary people too. It was only to cater to an irrelevant side story, which wasn't explored anyway.

Josh Helman (Col. Stryker) was 29 at the shooting and was a colonel already... At his age he should pushing pencils to prove himself as a young Lieutenant or something. Anyway, he's Colonel here, yet earlier franchises, which represent a later time-line (!) he'll be a Major. So he'll lose two ranks in the future! It's one of the many overlooked inconsistencies.

Nightcrawler can't escape from cages all of a sudden. For some reasons top military bunkers is no problem but not metal cages. You'll immediately realize this was another entirely unnecessary approach to a story line.

Far more inconsistencies exist surrounding Wolverine's appearance, but you can read all about it on the internet. There are so many errors, it's undo-able to put them all in a review like this.

Acting wise Josh Helman didn't convince at all. It's not clear to me why he was hired to begin with. Jennifer Lawrence under-performed heavily as well. It's painfully obvious she was in here for face recognition only. She indicated she grew tired of playing Mystique already. James McAvoy (Charles Xavier) does his usual thing. Fassbender is lucky because of his awesome charisma, but frankly his performance was underwhelming too.

It looks like the director simply didn't care anymore. Sound wise, shooting, acting, he went for the bare minimum only. This is perfectly demonstrated in the character of Apocalypse; other than a promising start, nothing impressive comes from his end. You'd anticipate Apocalypse would put up more than a nice fight, as powerful as he supposedly is, yet his character remained entirely underwhelming.

Also the Auschwitz-milking remains part of the standard Hollywood formula. Action scenes lack inspiration too. It has become a bore.

I advice to wait and obtain the movie later to keep your collection complete if you want to, but otherwise don't bother.

I didn't bother wasting time and money at the movie theater due to poor reviews. I trust the critics, most of the time and they were right. For a villain, Apocalypse was very one dimensional. Furthermore, the fact that the movie had explain who and what he was took away from the story. I liked the Ancient Egypt, beginning sequence and the transference of the consciousness of the ancient being to the new body was interesting. Throwing in the Logan/Wolverine cameo was great. The rest of the movies and character developments were lukewarm and that might have been, because they had to develop so many of them. I give it 5 out of 10 and it's worth watching if you have time to kill like I did before college football started. Expand

Not much to say other than that, but for people that don't see how obviously stupid this film is let me explain to you why. Actors were bored out of their minds and it showed in every single scene. The script is full of hyperbole and couldn't amuse a child. The cinematography and over all visual style lacked detail and originality and all too often it came off looking like a cartoon. The CGI that permeated almost every single scent made the film look cheap, despite the film costing an insane amount of money. They could have saved a lot of money and gone with stop motion animation and miniatures and it would have looked way better. The characters are all one dimensional and very boring. The film over and over attempted to force you to feel something with visuals and music, instead of having a story and a script that would actually make you feel something. The emotional manipulation was extremely obvious and cheesy beyond belief. I think the real issue is that they are trying to get new viewers, they are catering to the young adult crowed, instead of making a film for the original fans, who are all in their 30s and 40s, who would demand something more sophisticated and emotionally real. This young adult genre of films is a huge cash cow, but ultimately produces nothing worth anyone's time. Don't waste your brain cells on this producer driven shell of a film. Expand

Quicksilver,There's a whole bunch of reasons why X-Men:Apocalypse is such a terrible horrible mess of a movie. It could be because all of the characters are severely under-developed to the point that no one cares what happens to them. Quicksilver, Psylocke, Angel, NightCrawler, Havok, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm. These are all characters that we met in the film but were not explained at all or nearly enough for anyone to care about them. Psylocke (Olivia Munn) looked great. Ok, she looked like Olivia Munn cosplaying as Psylocke which if you know Olivia Munn isn't actually that amazing, since it's sorta her thing. However, I can't recall her having more than a couple of lines in the film and most of the time she was just standing around as a background lackey. Not much different from Storm and Angel, the other so-called "four horsemen" of Apocalypse (the 4th being Magneto). At some point in the film Quicksilver randomly shows up and does something super cool....the best sequence of the film actually.....but unfortunately as a result of what happened, someone who is supposed to be a major character but didn't get any film time died. I'm shedding a tear as we speak. Of course, this film is called "X-men: Apocalypse" and so if I didn't talk about the blue guy himself, it just wouldn't be right. Ah, Apocalypse. What the hell happened to you? People who don't read X-Men comics, read the following words carefully: Apocalypse is one of the scariest mofos in the Marvel Universe. He is a villain that causes superheroes to crap their pants when he shows up looking to cause trouble. This is a guy who is so evil, so powerful, so insane...that he has tortured and massacred some of the most well known X-Men in the past and literally changed the entire timeline of the Marvel Universe for awhile (see Age of Apocalypse). Now, with that in mind, WTF was Singer thinking when he gave us....this....this....ugly blue guy in horrible looking samurai armor? This film's Apocalypse is nothing compared to the Apocalypse of the Marvel Universe. This film's Apocalypse looks like a mutant Smurf that's been drinking one too many potions in Gargamel's laboratory. He's small, he's puny, he's ridiculous. I did not feel like the X-Men were in danger when I saw him on screen. Everytime I saw him, I couldn't help but laugh. He didn't strike fear or terror or make me anxious to see what happens next. All I could think about was how stupid he looked and acted. Ooooh, I'm going to destroy the world and rebuild it the way I like. Great plan, buddy. Because 20,000 villains before you haven't had the same plan and pulled it off successfully, right? That's not Apocalypse's M.O. And the way that they defeated him. Really? This isn't a spoiler by the way. I mean it's an "X-Men" movie. Obviously the X-Men are going to win, right? But the way he was defeated was so ridiculous and so easy compared to what other things the X-Men have gone up against that it was a total waste of time for them and completely negated any idea that Apocalypse was powerful and menacing in the first place. C'mon, Singer if you're going to churn out crap like this then man up and give the property back to Marvel so they can atleast do something respectable with it. Expand

Don't worry, though, this movie still has a lot of spectacle. However, it is weaker in many respects to others before it. For example, the villain is not well-motivated and it has too many people it wants to develop, so the pacing is rather slow. In fact, the first act is a chore to watch oftentimes because it has nothing of much interest to show the audience. Also, some of the conflicts it wants to portray have been done in a previous X-Men movie. However, with those flaws aside, I'd still watch it, even if the next viewing would just be because of the spectacle. With that said, I'll grant it a seal of mediocrity, but still recommend watching it. Expand

As always, The growing and experienced cast does a great job. That being said, I've grown tired of this series. They recycled a lot of content from previous films and it made this film suffer quite a bit. The only thing good about this movie is that it helps set up moving away from other characters.

Jackman is retiring as Wolverine and by going into the past for new stories, They can explore more while leaving out the character that really made the series what it is. I think Turner is a nice replacement for Lawrence as well, Who's contract has expired and it doesn't seem like she is going to re-new it. Mystique has grown stale and by re-introducing Jean through the very talented Turner, You get a near even swap while also giving fans a familiar character that you can explore the backstory of.

The film as a whole is ok. It's a little bit better than The Wolverine but compared to Days of Future Past and First Class, It's dead last.
