The film has started to open overseas and will arrive in the U.S. on Christmas day with a limited debut on HBO Max as well.

The story sees Diana now living in Washington D.C. in 1984. Diana is popular but has refused male companionship as she still longs for her late love Steve Trevor (Chris Pine).

Diana works in the Smithsonian Institute in antiquities and keeps her secret identity under wraps even when a daring mall heist forces her to leap into action.

A shy and passive employee named Barbara (Kirsten Wiig); who is afraid of her own shadow and largely ignored by her peers is befriended by Diana and they discover one item from the heist is inscribed with the ability to grant a wish. Unknowingly Diana wishes for Steve to return and Barbara wishes to be more like Diana which sets a chain of events into motion.

A shady business man named Maxwell Lord (Perdro Pascal) has his site on obtaining the relic as he believes having the ability to grant wishes will allow him to save his failing business and give him the power he craves.

With such a promising setup; the film ultimately does not deliver on its premise and becomes bogged down in drawn out sequences with surprisingly little action and gaps in logic that defy even standards for a comic book film.

The first 90 minutes of the film has roughly 10-15 minutes of action tops and we are instead given lengthy scenes of Steve trying to find an 80s fashion look; flying over fireworks, and Maxwell trashing from one locale to another without much needed continuity.

An action scene involving a convoy chase through the desert seems very inspired by “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and ultimately does not deliver especially with such a long gape between the action sequences.

The final act does attempt to redeem the film as seeing Barbara transform into her new persona is interesting and Wiig does a very solid job with the role. This sadly is undermined with a single line of dialogue which takes away a big part of the transformation that audiences deserved to see.

There was also a sequence where Diana races down the streets and takes to flight with her Lasso and then discovers she can fly like Superman. Not only is this not in keeping with the character; but we see this extended fast moving sequence where she is clearly heading away from D.C. at great speed only to arrive at a destination with an item which had been established to be back at her home in D.C. It is this sort of sloppiness that really detracts from the film. There is also the fact that Steve has to fly her around on a jet that even as a pilot he should not know how to fly as he has never flown a jet aircraft in his life.

When the big confrontation comes it is a letdown as it is not overly epic and the CGI really does not seem to mesh. What is an even bigger disappointment is that a certain character stands emoting for several minutes while Diana gives such a bland and extended speech that even my wife had to ask “who wrote these lines”.

The film was not a total disaster as the characters were interesting and worked well with one another making the film entertaining in parts despite being really disappointed with it.

The film strikes me as a product of the talented Patty Jenkins being able to do whatever she wanted after the success of the first film. Jenkins not only Directed but did the screenplay for it. Considering the amazing job she did writing “Monster” I had high expectations for the film but to me it seemed like it could have used a bit more attention to several aspects.

My summary would be the following… good cast, entertaining in parts, not much action over two hours, takes huge liberties with Diana and her abilities, massive gaps in logic even for a comic movie. It aims to be epic and comes up lacking. At least the mid. credit scene was worth it.

I think the climax was supposed to be some kind of comment on capitalism and consumerism, but I was hardly awake by the time we got there. Hopefully 2020's last and least significant disappointment. We last saw Wonder Woman during WWI and now fast forward to the 1980s Wonder Woman is back on the big screen facing two brand new enemies Max Lord (Pedro Pascal) and The Cheetah (Kristen Wiig). Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) now working in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. comes across a mysterious stone with the ability to apparently grant wishes to anyone holding it. The stone seems ordinary enough to everyone except of course the power-crazed Max Lord. Fear not as Wonder Woman is safely back in the hands of director Patty Jenkins, and beautifully accompanied by another stunning Hans Zimmer score. Pedro Pascal and Kristen Wiig are great additions to the cast, both making believable villains with clear motivations. Pascal particularly is stealing the spotlight and doing some real scenery chewing any chance he gets. Look, it’s not perfect and it has its issues, most of which you can overlook. I did feel it was missing an action sequence and it’s a little disjointed in places but despite that I enjoyed seeing Gal Gadot kick ass on the big screen again. Wonder Woman 1984 is a bright burst of 80s nostalgia with an old school superhero feel to it.

The days of sitting in a packed cinema are long gone and it’s uncertain when we’ll ever get back to that but right now the cinemas are open and operating safely so when you’re ready to get back in front of the silver screen again Wonder Woman 1984 is waiting for you, although depending on where you live you might want to hurry up and see it quick. Recommended for all you film buffs out there.

The effects of her jumping onto buildings like Spider-Man and when she don't have them, holding onto lightning bolts are from b-series tv movie. High heels shoes don't look good on her when she's running. The romantic and comedy scenes between Diana and Steve are very childish and absurd, not adult at all, the whole movie in general. There are scenes reminiscent of Batman from Schumacher. Invisibility is pulled up their sleeve without any explanation, it does it because the script says. The theme of "I don't need a man to be happy" is absurd and contradicts itself in the same movie, because she has been sad for decades for having lost her love. There are cameras even in the mall, however they enter the White House as if nothing, without any security. The villains are much better than in the previous installment led by great actors. The treatment of men is worse than in Birds of Prey. The action scenes are very good and the movie is not bad, but it has many flaws. The final battle is very good, but it is very short. Expand

I loved the first movie and thought this one was just ok. It's 2 and a half hours which is probably the worst thing about it. It's just not worth that much of someone's time.

Aside from that... they retread some old ground. In the first movie diana was a fish out of water and now it's steve's turn but... it's not quite as funny in my opinion.

Also Kristen Wiig as a villain... terrible casting. She'd be fine as a geeky best friend but as someone ignored, gradually turning evil... she just can't pull it off. Plus realistically... she's not nearly as attractive as gal gadot. It's kind of weird having her as a rival.

The action is pretty good though and it's well shot. Some pretty solid performances. Not a great script or story. Just some nonsense about a magic wishstone. Overall... it's fine but a big step down from the first movie and too long. 2 hours would be much better.

Gal Gadot was great as WW in the first movie, here she seems to be going through the motions for the most part, with only a couple of standout emotional moments.
IMHO, what makes this movie just barely above average is Pedro Pascal, with the best character arc in the movie and a scene stealing performance, he was the only reason I didn’t turn off the movie.

Events and character choices don't connect or make sense. Wonder Woman (who barely appears - it's Diana 1984 really) is the least interesting character in the film which is a problem. Gadot has a winning smile but reads her lines rather than acts and does the godawful 'head shake' to express emotion. There's a degree of forced diversity (in supporting characters) and 'Men are bad, m'kay?' which is at odds with this potboiler's largely ignored stab at a theme (truth before all else) expressed by the excellent Robin Wright who, as in the first film, is the best thing in this outing. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Apparently there was rumors that had messages within the movie. Maybe it did, but didn't bother me all that much. Kristen Wiig didn't bug me all that much, but you do expect a joke here and there. Just wish yhere was more Cheetah. Patty Jenkins has got to fid her footing in finding a believable bad guy. The Max Lord in the comics was ruthlessness evil. Didn't believe in this bad guy. And Chris Pine really didn't need to be in this movie. Could have done without, but that's my opinion. And as 8 see it, many others. Loved the first movie, gave it 9.5. But this one, I give it a 6.5. So be warned. Expand

I’ll say it...I’m a Superhero Movie Junkie. I love them all. I think a “6” is about as low as I can go. Superhero movies are exciting, entertaining and I’m usually captivated throughout the entirety of watching one. This movie was no different, but...

The bar was high for Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot was/is an incredible Wonder Woman and overall superhero. There’s a mystery and intrigue of this character that always has me on the edge of my seat. The intrigue was there for Wonder Woman the character, but lost on the movie. I actually enjoyed all of the performances of this movie. Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Chris Pine are each exceptional in their own right. The storyline is where the mark was missed. The opening scene of the movie was a throwback to Dianna’s youth. The scene was awesome, but the connection of that scene to the rest of the movie was lost. You could maybe make a far reach of how Dianna had to... no... no you can’t. It was lost.

As the movie gets going you quickly learn Wiig and Pascal’s motivation for their characters. The two actually want the same thing (to feel important and to have more “x”), but Pascal’s character takes the biggest leap to attain it. The beginning and middle of this movie are excellent. The story line is presented, the obstacles are unfolding and even Chris Pine’s resurrection of character makes some sense. The end of the movie, however, really loses its luster. The reason for Pascal’s villainous demise was completely lost on me. A cheap pep rally from Wonder Woman seemed to turn the tide (I suppose the son’s wish could have been the reason, but it never seemed like that was the case). The final 20-25 minutes seemed very rah-rah and not from the typical superhero way you would expect. In this film, the inevitability that good always “beats” evil prevailed because good is just better morally than evil and not because of any stereotypical fight scene. While I’ll concede that this may be a movie that 2020 needed, it seemed like the type of movie that 10 years from now we will look back on and say, “That movie started really great, but what the heck happened in the end?”

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. WW84 gets unfairly trashed in the sense that, in a vacuum, it's not a bad movie at all. The movie suffers though, because the first one was so good. Gadot was awesome in the role as usual, and surprisingly, Wiig was fantastic in her portrayal of Minerva as well. The real issue with this movie, other than the pacing, is how Steve Trevor's return was handled. It was downright cringy, and neither WW nor Steve really see an issue with him inhabiting some other guy's body with no thought given to this guy's life. Other than that, WW84 is perfectly fine, just didn't live up to expectations. Expand

When an ancient artefact imbued with godly powers comes to light however, she finds herself fighting to save the World.

The original Wonder Woman remains the best of the recent DC movies, but this sequel unfortunately fails to live up to it’s predecessor. For a start, the central pairing of Gal Gadot and Chris Pine (that was a large part of the first movie) is given far too little screen time in favour of Pedro Pascal’s Maxwell Lord, a nemesis who’s ultimate plan never really seems to make much sense. Wonder Woman 1984 also lacks any real sense of humour, and just takes itself far too seriously for a movie about a superhuman woman with a magic lasso and invisible jet! Even the action sequences are a bit of a disappointment thanks to some ropey CGI. It’s only really Gal Gadot’s captivating screen presence that keeps this from being a complete waste of time to be honest.

His character hurt the development of Babara. In some of the scenes, the CG is pretty bad, and the third act fight scene is laughably bad and wasted so much potential. Am I going to watch this movie? It’s drags at times and it really feels a bit dumbed down without solid creativity. Theirs a few bright spots, fight scenes are okay but they don’t make Wonder Woman feel like the bad ass she is. Pedros character is alright, I feel like he would have been a better side character though. I’m giving it a 6/10 for the bright spots, it’s an easy to follow movie that does at the minimum have a cohesive story. But it really lacks in the wow moments that leave you saying “this was awesome”. Expand

The long part of the film, as if it wasn't even a superhero film and that's just talk. The plot is completely nothing. Negative also nothing much. When it finally comes to an event, it's still worth nothing at all, and the overall climax is also bad. In addition to all this, there are a few passages where I thought it was just **** In short, Wonder Woman 1984 is, in my opinion, a below-average film and one of the worst films I've ever seen. I do not recommend it, not even to DC fans. Expand

Wonder Woman 1984 manages to be as long as the director's version of The Return of the King.

WW84=Wonder Woman -1, the film had potential, but it is a step backwards from previous DCEU productions

I didn't hate this film, I was just bored of it about an hour in and started to read reviews of the movie to check if it was just me or if it really is as boring as I think or if I was just in a bad mood and grumpy... It wasn't just me.

I didn't mind the acting, a couple of scenes were good but it just didn't feel like a superhero movie but instead a fan tribute where the fan just wanted to make sure it was as inclusive and suitable for kids as possible.

Go see it! When it's released on Netflix or something, don't pay for it.

60% is charming, funny, and full of heart, 40% is cluttered, annoying, messy, and awkward. As such, I can safely say that WW84 is an OK movie.

Meh. I liked the foray into the 80s, but the story was wimpy, as was the ending. I was so looking forward to this, but was disappointed.

Seeing Wonder Woman in an 80s styled movie is pretty damn fun to watch but when I look back on this movie, I'm surprised as to how incredibly bad it was. The acting was fine but the pacing, the effects, and the very iffy message didn't make up for what could have been. It also didn't make any sense...like at all. When watching superhero movie, it's easy to forget about suspension of disbelief but when watching this movie, there's just so much of it that it's like the directors were trying to make it incomprehensible in a good way but instead made a confusing, muddled mess. Also the message that Patty Jenkins was trying to convey in this movie was a reasonably fine message but can be viewed in so many different ways that it's hard to know what the message actually is, and many people having watched this movie can very easily take the message the wrong way and...something could happen because of that. Other than the entertainment, there is very little of this movie which is not awful Expand

Hans Zimmer soundtrack is the absolute cake. I could talk all day about Hans Zimmer's soundtrack. It's the only good thing about this movie. Hans Zimmer soundtrack

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Monkeys paw gets the better of Wonder Woman, until she realizes that she doesn't need no man, and technically raped a stranger. Movie was way too long, and the action scenes were terrible. CGI felt unfinished and the final battle was a different take on Bruce Almighty. I'm so glad I didn't pay to see this in theatres. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A film that contains several defects, starting from the poorly written plot, to the management of Diana's powers, such as making things invisible (?) or flying (if he succeeds in 1984, why does he never do it in the present? Against Doomsday he would have served ...). But the acting, especially that of Gal Gadot and Pedro Pascal, is not bad, indeed, it is even good. Definitely a step back from the first film, but it's not all to throw away, although most of it is. Expand
