Venom stood out as the superhero had the villain inside himself and not outside, so he was the "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" or the "Alien" of the (2nd) Marvel Universe. The sequel betrays this main aspect by homologating to all other cinecomics. The quote of the duo Don Quixote and Sancho Panza already reveals a more marked separation between the two identities, consequently the new chapter of the saga sinks into the silliest side of the franchise and someone even ventures a reading in terms of homosexual relationship. In short: "Venom: Endgame".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. That's pretty much everything Venom should NOT be. As far as comics go, they stuck to just the dumbest thing possible (Cassidy's love for Shriek). I have yet to recover the first film but, if these are the conditions, I really don't think I will recover it. Expand

It's not as good asi expected but has some cool scenes and interactions of characters. Should of been like 15-20 min longer to fill in stuff at the start that just feels missed or cut short. How Harrelson becomes carnage I found stupid but rest of it I was fine with. Enjoyable sequel and looked forward to the next one.

I liked the first one better, I thought Ruben Fleicher's direction was great in the first one, but Andy Serkis's rubs a lot on the potato, it has huge inconsistencies, the movie doesn't even honor the title with one that does the long-awaited carnage, but overall it's fun Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As Expected usual Average movie with awesome cgi and fight, It still didn't justify the name "Carnage" in the title with pg13 it should've been rated R and the 80min runtime is sweet for this story but could've been long and hard R slaughter fest! The references and easter eggs were awesome, The venom and eddie's interactions and the fights were fun and the triangle relationship was amazing love the about to kiss scene. The Carnage's story was good and the eddie's usual day with venom and his interaction with some people was amazing, The fight between venom and eddie was like Wtf but funny, the carnage's prison escape was awesome and the venom at bar his speech was fun then the ms chen's venom talk and the venom kiss reference was amazing, The ending fight at the church and the fire and sound stuff with it the one and only fight between venom and carnage ended such fastly didn't felt satisfying although visually amazing and the ending with daily bugle and spiderman it was nuts. The movie is a dissapointment considering the hype about carnage and decent considering its same as the prequel Overall its a usual decent movie! Expand

Yet as I said it is far from perfect.

The CG was incredibly inconsistent in quality, The final act felt incredibly rushed, and the movie only clocked in at a little under 90 minutes. This was way too short IMO as it felt like we were missing pieces of the story we should have seen. This one could have been another 10-15 minutes longer with ease. Add some more depth, flesh out the characters a bit more, and make us care about what happens to them in the future. Do that and the next film will be even better.

Hats off to Andy Serkis too. He got the best out of Hardy and Harrelson and really played into this movie's strengths while masking a lot of its weaknesses.

I didn't get as much entertainment from this as I did with its predecessor. Still narrowly good enough, though.

'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' - great title, fwiw - does retain the fun performance from Tom Hardy, while the introductions of Stephen Graham, Woody Harrelson and Naomie Harris are welcomed ones in terms of the cast; even if I think their characters, particularly the latter two, are a little hit-and-miss throughout.

The action and the fact that the film only lasts for around 90 minutes mean I didn't have a negative time watching this; it is sillier this time out, which also helps. Could be a 6/10 film, but for me it inches itself into 7/10 territory.

CONCLUSION :
Si je pouvais conclure ce film en un mot : nul !

In it, we have Eddie Brock doing investigative journalism on the serial killer Cletus Kasady and eventually gets bitten by Kasady who is exposed to his blood and becomes infused to a red symbiote, Carnage, who is evil and wants revenge on Brock. Carnage breaks out of prison and frees Kasady's girlfriend, Shriek, however, Carnage soon grows tired of Shriek as her powers involve shrieking and causing irritating noise, one of the symbiote's weaknesses. Eddie is turned down by his love interest in the movie, which actually largely played up for laughs. Venom and Eddie have trouble getting along, so the symbiote leaves Eddie at one point and literally just starts raging at a rave. At the end of the film, the movie takes place in a cathedral where Shriek and Kasady are wed, and they kidnap Brock's love interest so Venom is there to battle Carnage. Venom is triumphant in the end and there is a end-credit sequence which references Spider-Man: No Way Home. Overall, this was a pretty fast-paced, short-lived movie that probably had too much cringey comic relief. It was still entertaining and pretty fun though. Expand

It’s a simple movie with a short runtime that flies by quickly and there is something to appreciate here for a superhero/comic-book flick in this day and age to just embrace its campiness and B-Movie feel. Doesn’t make it good, though, as that can only take the enjoyment to a certain degree before one start wishing there is a bit more substance in the script since it’s more dumb than fun. The same camp-style can be kept but be a bit more clever with it.

Tom Hardy was good as Eddie Brock yet again and is easily the best part of the movie, I just wish he had a better script to work with. The odd-couple schtick was fun for a while but then it went on for far too long and the overemphasis on comedy in this sequel detracts more than it adds. The lack of focus on the villain and rushing that plot point to get to the big CGI fight finale also hurts the overall experience. Woody Harrelson was hamming it up in the role with what he was given and he was fun with a layer of cringe.

There were some cool/entertaining action scenes, the finale fight was certainly better than the first one. The movie, however, once again reinforces the fact that Venom SORELY needs to be Rated-R which would have made Carnage’s carnage so much better. With the first one, I get that they had to make a safe play, but with the sequel, they should have embraced the violence.

Not much else to say about this one. Kinda disappointed as I did like the first movie more which admittedly over time has fallen a bit in my eyes too. This character has a lot more potential than what we are being given and I hope whatever outing it gets next, it’s done better. If you enjoyed the first one, you might like the sequel but if you didn’t enjoy it, this won’t change your mind. And if I were to rate it, I’d give it a 5.5/10.

Usually the sequel should be better, as a rule, the main characters are revealed on the new side, the universe of the film expands or the answers left by the viewer in the original are given. So in the second part of Venom all this is not. This is the same film as in 2018, only with a new story, which is also worse. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was very pleasantly surprised by Venom: Let There Be Carnage, definitely better then the first film. The visual effects for Venom and Carnage are outstanding. The screenplay was really fun especially the conversations between Eddie and Venom. Tom Hardy's dual performance as Eddie and Venom is superb, he does an excellent job at creating really chemistry between the two characters. Which doesn't happen till the last 10 minutes of the movie. Everything else between that is Venom and Eddie acting like morons, arguing, or trying to find each other since they broke up. Carnage spends his time trying to find his old Girlfriend... Which is wtf. He has no GF why is this character even in the movie it just takes away from time that should have been spent between Venom and Carnage. Instead, they wasted all that on bad comedy and even if it was good comedy it still would have sucked.

I waited 20 years since the original Spider-Man Movie to see Venom and Carnage on screen and was hoping Spider-Man as well and what a waste.

Unconcerned with introducing us to its flawed take on the character, this sequel can instead fully embrace itself for what it is. That means the issues haven't changed. This is still too lighthearted and silly to really fit the titular anti-hero as we know him from the comics, the action is somewhat underwhelming, you'll be wishing to see blood the PG-13 rating won't allow for, and I continue to have no idea why Brock loves Anne who comes off as more of a cold-hearted psychopath than the symbiotic parasite going around taking over people's bodies. However, now it's free to fully roll with the madness allowing for a variety of wackadoodle scenarios that would feel out of place in any movie, much less a superhero one, and it's far more entertaining as a result.

A big driving point behind the hype for Let There Be Carnage, outside of its predecessor somehow actually having fans, was that we're finally getting to see the long-awaited cinematic debut of another one of Spider-Man's most memorable antagonists. Unfortunately the results on that front are kind of a mixed bag. Woody Harrelson's performance is fantastic and they definitely nailed the visual component. The red symbiote's appearance is less alien goo, and more mass of sentient flesh. This makes the transformation sequences where it looks like Cletus Kasady's body is literally transforming into a hideous monster particularly gross and striking. The script doesn't respect the supervillain as much as Andy Serkis does though, so he gets the same disposable treatment a considerably less popular Marvel foe would get which is incredibly disappointing. It feels as if the writers didn't take the time to give the conflict the significance it should have had in an effort to rush out the surprise ending that sees the merging of two worlds that never should have been separate in first place before the biggest MCU flick of the year came out.

At least it's fun. It's still not the Venom film we deserve, but my acceptance of that beforehand allowed me to get some enjoyment from it. Trashy in the way a lot of the cape and costume features of the 2000s were before Iron Man kicked off bringing them all together under one roof, I can't say this is truly "good." Just that it's come into its own enough to be accepted for what it is, even if simply to watch that mid-credits stinger which opens up the future to some exciting possibilities moving forward. Meaning that if the upcoming Morbius delivers at all, Sony might have started to get a grip on its standalone bad guy universe despite its rough start and inherently confused concept.

Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) is attempting to reignite his failing career as a journalist. When the opportunity to interview notorious serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) arises he cannot pass up the chance of the interview of a lifetime. Things don’t go according to plan for Eddie and Cletus becomes infected by the symbiote Carnage who proceeds to skip his execution and bust out of prison. Chaos then ensues.

I wasn’t exactly a fan of Venom but it made nearly a billion at the box office so lucky for us we got a sequel. I had slightly higher expectations this time around due to Andy Serkis taking over as director. No offence intended towards Tom Hardy but I never felt he was right for Venom and the role would have been better suited going to Andy Serkis instead but sure we’re here now. The scenes with Harrelson and Naomie Harris are giving strong Natural Born Killers vibes and honestly the only good thing I got from Venom: Let There Be Carnage is Woody Harrelson, he’s a show stealer in any scene he’s in. The rest of the movie feels like a buddy bromance movie between Eddie and Venom. It’s silly, ridiculous and not nearly as violent as it should be although it clearly found some sort of an audience. It didn’t make as much money at the box office compared to the first Venom but considering the state of the world right now it did quite well. The build up to the epic showdown between Venom and Carnage was just another CGI overloaded fight scene. Underwhelming and a quickly forgettable movie. I honestly don’t know why I keep putting myself through this.

Look the only way you’re going to enjoy Venom: Let There Be Carnage is to have your expectations as low as possible and just maybe you’ll find it a bit of fun. It knows it’s not a serious comic book movie and it doesn’t try to be either. Recommended for fans of the first Venom movie.

Wow… I never thought this movie would turn out like a gay romcom. Cletus and Carnage were okay antagonists; I didn’t like how psychologically mad they were. I liked the new comedic take on Venom though, he was so freaking hilarious!

As of the time of this review, I’m unsure what the post-credits scene means. I imagine Venom will show up in No Way Home, but I have no idea how he would fit into the movie. He is an antihero, so it would be weird if he randomly hated Spider-Man. Because symbiotes are connected through the multiverse in the comics, maybe Venom realized that Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man killed the Venom of his universe? That would cause Venom to connect his grief to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man… thus a feeling of revenge and he becomes the possible sixth member of No Way Home’s Sinister Six. I guess this will be answered in a couple weeks!

More enjoyable than the first Venom movie.

The second instalment in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (previously known as Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters) features the return of the anti-hero, Venom, and this time he will face Carnage, who was previously teased in the first movie. Originally slated to released in October 2020, the movie was delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic which forced theatres all over to close.

After the events of the first movie, Detective Patrick Mulligan (Graham) contacts Eddie Brock (Hardy) to talk to a serial killer, Cletus Kasady (Harrelson), whom they both have met each other last time. Cletus refused to talk to anyone but Eddie himself. Detective Mulligan wants Eddie to find out where Cletus have hidden the body of the victims he killed. During their conversation, Cletus wants Eddie to spread his message to his “fans” in exchange for his life story which would boost his career as a journalist.

Before Eddie leaves, Venom notices the drawings in Cletus’ cell which may be the location of where Cletus buried his victims. This turns out to be true when Eddie expose the location by publishing his article in the newspaper which give Eddie a huge career boost. However, this only angers Cletus because Eddie’s article is one-sided as the story only focus on his victim’s side of story and none of his.

When Cletus is finally found guilty and sentenced to death by lethal injection, Cletus request Eddie to come visit him. During the visit, Venom is provoke by Cletus when he insults Eddie leading to Cletus biting Eddie’s hand. Cletus then consume Eddie’s blood laced with Venom’s symbiote. On the day of Cletus’ execution, he merge with the symbiote and become Carnage. He breaks out of prison and begin his rampage.

Unlike the first movie, I find the sequel much better and more improved. First, the performance from the cast is great especially Tom Hardy. He played the character even much better than the previous movie. In addition, his character’s chemistry with Venom is really good and funny to watch at the same time. Not only that, both of them have good character developement. Venom really provided some funny moments especially in one scene without its original host.

Just like the previous movie, the story does not put too much focus on world building and setting up sequel baits. Instead, more efforts are put into storytelling. The story is fine but it is not great but not too bad either. For the direction of this movie, Andy Serkis have done a great job and he did much better than Ruben Fleischer. The former made this movie more watchable.

While Woody Harrelson played the role of Cletus Kasady/Carnage well, I felt the character don’t really have enough character development. Same to goes to Naomie Harris who played Frances Barrison/Shriek. Not only she does not have much character developement, she does not have much screen time either. Michelle Williams who played Anne Weying does not really do much in this movie and I felt she does not need to be in this movie at all.

Despite its flaws, I prefer this movie than the first one. Before you leave the theatre, stay back for the mid-credits scene. This is not just a normal and traditional mid-credits scene because there is a very huge surprise in that scene. Do not miss it at all cost.

I feel like there were way too much silly and comedic scenes that felt like filler and most of them didn't hit for me. Venom and Eddie Brock, for the most part, had such annoying and pointless scenes together. It was very strange. In the first movie, they flowed together, but in this movie, their presence seemed forced. It felt like they put most of their attention on Cletus Kasady/Carnage and forgot about Venom/Eddie, so they threw some scenes of them together because it's their movie. LOL! I felt like the plot wasn't done fully, but I loved the love story between Cletus Kasady and Shriek. They should have expanded more on that and made the story darker with light comedy. If they made a movie with only Cletus Kasady, Carnage and Shriek, I would most certainly watch and love that. I still think this movie should have been rated R though, or at least 14A. Nobody can convince me otherwise. I must say, Carnage was amazing. The design and scenes of him were fantastic and I just wanted more. The final fight, for the most part, was really dope. Some parts in the movie didn't really add up or make much sense. There were also many cringe moments. I was really disappointed at the very end though, after venom and carnage fight. It felt rushed and unneeded. Overall, I enjoyed the first venom, story-wise, more than venom 2, but I enjoyed the fights more in venom 2 than venom 1. I would probably watch Venom 2 again maybe once a year or so, only because I'm a fan. Expand

The premise is "EddieThe first Venom (2018) movie was a very generic and forgettable superhero movie. I came out feeling rather underwhelmed by it but I still had some expectations for the sequel since it teased the iconic villain, Carnage. The premise is "Eddie Brock is still struggling to coexist with the shape-shifting extraterrestrial Venom. When deranged serial killer Cletus Kasady also becomes host to an alien symbiote, Brock and Venom must put aside their differences to stop his reign of terror". So does it live up to the title or is just another mediocre movie from Sony?

Firstly, Tom Hardy is still phenomenal as Eddie Brock and the voice of Venom. He still gives a very physically striking performance that is entertaining to watch. It is very clear that Tom Hardy is giving 100% and is also having a blast doing it. One of the most important plot points in this film is the relationship between Eddie and Venom and it is the biggest highlight. Eddie and Venom have a conflict that is similar to that of a rom-com. They are both arguing with each other, like a couple, on how they want to be a hero and how they want to live their life. It is so incredibly weird to see a man argue with an alien like they are married but it was so fun to watch.

Just from the description above, it is obvious that this film leans more towards the comedy side while not taking itself that seriously. Notably, a lot of the comedic moments and jokes made me chuckle. This is thanks to some great writing and performance from Tom Hardy. The final fight is also a lot better than the previous film as this time, I could see what was going on thanks to the director using good lighting. Venom: Let There Be Carnage also has a very memorable mid-credit scene that is quite shocking and amazing. Unfortunately, it is quite bad when the mid-credit scene is the most memorable thing this movie has going for it. The actual plot is a very generic superhero affair that is no different from the first film. It goes through a lot of the same plot beats as Venom(2018). Eddie and Venom clash then they break up, the bad guy is Venom but evil, Venom and Eddie reunite to stop the bad guy. There is a rom-com plot with Eddie and Venom but that is very unconnected to the main plot of Carnage. The first 2 acts is just Eddie and Venom arguing with some carnage plotlines sprinkled in and then the final act with the fight. There isn't a real strong build-up for the fight between Venom and Carnage. Carnage hates Venom for literally no reason which makes the final fight feel less meaningful. Additionally, Carnage/Cletus is a forgettable villain which is such a shame considering how iconic and amazing he is in the comics. This film butchers him completely! What makes Carnage/Cletus great is how ruthless both of them are. They are both insane murderers and together they would rip spines and heads off. However, due to the PG-13 rating there never really is a sense of "Carnage" and it feels boring seeing them in action. For some silly reason, they give Cletus a love interest in Frances/Shriek who has screaming powers. Why does she have those powers? Who knows because they never bother to explain it. The film confirms that Cletus murdered her grandmother and her mother in cold blood yet make him somehow really loving of Frances. It completely ruins his character. She is also the second villain in the film and she is also a garbage character that I wish they removed from the film completely. Near the end, some really stupid things occur as well with a certain character pulling a 180 when it makes no sense for them to do so. They also include a line that tries to make Cletus sympathetic but it doesn't work when you show him murder an innocent guy earlier...

There is also some returning supporting cast like Michelle Williams who they still waste in this film. There is also a new character Patrick Mulligan played by Stephen Graham who does a good job with what he is given but his character is very boring. Overall, I enjoyed it more than the first film but it certainly doesn't live up to the Carnage title. Thankfully, Tom Hardy is still enjoyable to watch and the movie is a lot shorter with its 90-minute runtime so it is not as exhausting to watch. However, it is still a shame that Sony still hasn't managed to create a great Venom movie but the mid-credit scene certainly makes me hype for a future movie even if this one was also quite generic.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage explores an interestimg concept: what would Eddie's doppelganger do with Venom's power?

What was good: It's more fast paced than the original. The fight sequences are better. The animations explaining the villain's story are well done. Both Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson act their characters very convincingly. Eddie and Venom continue to bicker like a couple. What you may not like: The film gave me whiplash, jumping from funny moments to incredibly dark overtones. The leading villainous gets no backstory, so she's sort of there in the background.

If you want a serious action movie or a silly comedy, this film is somewhere in between. If you don't mind that, you may enjoy this.

Being only 90 minutes long and PG13 surely attributed to the movie's failures but the writing is of a similar quality to what a 15 year old with ADHD would scribble down.

Tom Hardy is a great actor and I have liked everything I've ever seen with him in it, apart from these two movies, but he was apparently a writer and producer of this one so it seems like he should just stick to acting.

"Venom: Let there be carnage" does not have a proper plot and it does not even try. Admittedly, if it tried to present itself as anything more than what it put forward, it would be a definitively worse movie. Admittedly, if it tried to present itself as anything more than what it put forward, it would be a definitively worse movie. It senselessly tries to recreate the best and most enjoyable parts of its previous movie - doing so without the brilliant subtext, subtlety or novelty of its predecessor. As a result, the talent of the cast is wasted and any potential for something improved is dead on arrival. And all that is left is uninspired silliness just for the sake of it. I imagine when obnoxious Hollywood directors talk down comic book movies, "Venom: Let there be carnage" is exactly the kind of movie they have in mind, and Iron Man (2008) to a lesser extent. Much has been made of the movie's end credit scene; I think it is meaningless. Overall, "Venom: Let there be carnage" is a disappointing movie, especially if compared to its predecessor. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unfortunately, even if the character of carnage is nice, we find ourselves spending almost an hour and a half to have 85% of the film on funny jokes or not on the bad situation of eddie and venom, even if obviously the fights are as usual marvel, The encounter between eddie and cletus, as well as venom and carnage, is supposed to be a lot crazier than that, between venom that’s afraid of the carnage color, the rapid birth of carnage, or the venom story that’s completely wiped out from the base Venom scenario, I suspect it’s based on comics and the first movie. Its only advantage is of course the teasing of Venom in the MCU. This is the only scene I liked despite its more than disappointing ending, eagerly the next spider-man and the morbid movie to fix it. Embraces the goofy tone of the first movie. Doesn't take itself too seriously. A lot of funny moments and some enjoyable action. Tom Hardy kills it yet again.

The CGI is funky at times. I didn't liked the performance of Woody. It was more comical then scary. Hardy was uneven at best. The secondary actors were the one selling the movie, which isn't a good sign. I give this 58%. I don't know what happen to that story but it was too fragmented to be good. Expand

The story is trash and it's a lot of filler dialogue between Eddie Brock and Venom fighting like children. There was only one good line after the wedding where carnage slaps his wife (which I'm surprised they allowed because it shows violence against women). Of course they chose and interracial relationship to be w0ke but there's not much you can do. It seemed like a horribly written film overall. I didn't pay to see it and if I had I'd be pissed. Expand

In such an over saturated genre venom LTBC fails to innovate and instead relies on the most basic of superhero movie tropes with the returning characters showing only a handful of moments indicating they had grown at all from the previous movie. Its a shame as i felt the first movie had some interesting moments. Still if you liked the first one its sure to entertain you!

I liked the first one and was expecting some good sequel when I heard about Carnage but the movie was a little bit letdown. This movie was a let down. Rehashing much of the first movie. The jokes fell flat. The only thing about this movie that was memorable was the mid credit scene.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's talk about that post credit scene first... that's a game changer scene for Sony Spider-verse. When Brock/Venom in a cabin watching telenovela... my theory is... Loki Multiverse event happen... suddenly they in a same cabin but in a different timeline, the cabin is nicer... they're now in MCU timeline.... Venom will meet Spider-Man... SWEEEEEETTTTT!!!

If you like the first movie... I think you'll gonna this one.. I love the first and this 2nd installment is awesome!

Love the banter between Brock and Venom. Carnage looks amazing... seem like the movie killed both CK and Carnage and I didn't like that... hope Sony brings back the character.

The movie is just around 90 minutes... the pace is fast and it didn't give you a breather moments.

Highly recommended 8/10... hopefully there will be a Venom post credit scene in the Spider-Man No Way Home.
