I feel like there were way too much silly and comedic scenes that felt like filler and most of them didn't hit for me. Venom and Eddie Brock, for the most part, had such annoying and pointless scenes together. It was very strange. In the first movie, they flowed together, but in this movie, their presence seemed forced. It felt like they put most of their attention on Cletus Kasady/Carnage and forgot about Venom/Eddie, so they threw some scenes of them together because it's their movie. LOL! I felt like the plot wasn't done fully, but I loved the love story between Cletus Kasady and Shriek. They should have expanded more on that and made the story darker with light comedy. If they made a movie with only Cletus Kasady, Carnage and Shriek, I would most certainly watch and love that. I still think this movie should have been rated R though, or at least 14A. Nobody can convince me otherwise. I must say, Carnage was amazing. The design and scenes of him were fantastic and I just wanted more. The final fight, for the most part, was really dope. Some parts in the movie didn't really add up or make much sense. There were also many cringe moments. I was really disappointed at the very end though, after venom and carnage fight. It felt rushed and unneeded. Overall, I enjoyed the first venom, story-wise, more than venom 2, but I enjoyed the fights more in venom 2 than venom 1. I would probably watch Venom 2 again maybe once a year or so, only because I'm a fan. Expand

The only parts I would hold against this movie is the Venom rave scene and Carnage's voice. Everything else, aside from feeling a bit rushed due to the 90 minute runtime, was decently written and felt like an ok movie. Personally I enjoyed the first movie over this sequel despite loving Carnage more than Riot. Its going to be interesting to see where they send this universe after this movie due to the final scene with the detective and the post credit scene. Expand

It's only an hour and a half long, with a hell of a fast pace, and I got the feeling in the final scene that the film was short. I'm serious about the fast pace. The whole movie is just action after action after action that doesn't really stop. On the plus side, it's good that I wasn't bored for a second because the movie kept overwhelming me with a ton of action scenes, which were of course excellent. Carnage comes on the scene and the moments with him were awesome. Of course the film is mostly about Venom, who is over the top here. On the one hand, we get a good dose of Venom, but personally I would have preferred if maybe he wasn't here so much. How can I put this. The pacing is so fast that the film lacks room for any story in the finale in my opinion. It could have done with more dialogue here and there in my opinion, and it just wouldn't have hurt to slow down in places and absorb all the adrenaline the film has to offer. On top of that, when we do get some room for plot, it's mostly comedic scenes, which will probably suit a lot of people, but personally I would have preferred a more serious approach. To sum up. The new Venom isn't a bad movie. I enjoyed it. The dose of proper CGI action was fun, but it was just too much in my opinion. So it's both a cool thing, because there's always something going on, and actually the biggest minus of the film, because you just don't stop and there's always some action, and there's also some comedic dialogue at times, which, while entertaining, in my opinion, unnecessarily brings down the seriousness of the plot. This is my opinion. Like I said the film is not bad and I certainly can't say I didn't enjoy it, but for me it is an above average film that I would rather not recommend. Perhaps only to fans of Venom. Expand

En-US: It was a fun movie to watch, but the feeling is it was made for kids. With childish jokes and a poor development by one of the film's villains, he can't show us the entire Venom story like the comics. It was interesting to have the carnage as Venom's villain, but it was much more interesting to see Kasady as Eddie Brook's villain since the character was much more leveraged in relation to the carnage itself. The film's post-credit scene was fantastic for the future of how we're going to see the future of Marvel and Sony in film.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage explores an interestimg concept: what would Eddie's doppelganger do with Venom's power?

What was good: It's more fast paced than the original. The fight sequences are better. The animations explaining the villain's story are well done. Both Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson act their characters very convincingly. Eddie and Venom continue to bicker like a couple. What you may not like: The film gave me whiplash, jumping from funny moments to incredibly dark overtones. The leading villainous gets no backstory, so she's sort of there in the background.

If you want a serious action movie or a silly comedy, this film is somewhere in between. If you don't mind that, you may enjoy this.

Wow… I never thought this movie would turn out like a gay romcom. Cletus and Carnage were okay antagonists; I didn’t like how psychologically mad they were. I liked the new comedic take on Venom though, he was so freaking hilarious!

As of the time of this review, I’m unsure what the post-credits scene means. I imagine Venom will show up in No Way Home, but I have no idea how he would fit into the movie. He is an antihero, so it would be weird if he randomly hated Spider-Man. Because symbiotes are connected through the multiverse in the comics, maybe Venom realized that Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man killed the Venom of his universe? That would cause Venom to connect his grief to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man… thus a feeling of revenge and he becomes the possible sixth member of No Way Home’s Sinister Six. I guess this will be answered in a couple weeks!

More enjoyable than the first Venom movie.

Yet as I said it is far from perfect.

The CG was incredibly inconsistent in quality, The final act felt incredibly rushed, and the movie only clocked in at a little under 90 minutes. This was way too short IMO as it felt like we were missing pieces of the story we should have seen. This one could have been another 10-15 minutes longer with ease. Add some more depth, flesh out the characters a bit more, and make us care about what happens to them in the future. Do that and the next film will be even better.

Hats off to Andy Serkis too. He got the best out of Hardy and Harrelson and really played into this movie's strengths while masking a lot of its weaknesses.

For a film that barely lasts 97 minutes, it is surprising to see the simplicity of its script, especially since seeing such a short duration in this genre is quite rare.
And even though I can admit the fact that this story decides not to waste time with fillers like the first one, it also doesn't have moments that are truly noteworthy, and that's a bad thing.

If someone had told me that one day I would see these two characters sharing the screen, and without Spider-Man, I would have called them crazy, but here we are, and the result, although generically entertaining, is also a disappointing one.

The cast is having fun, especially Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson, and that at least makes the results feel a little more natural and fun, though inevitably fruitless.

Don't be fooled. Venom: Let There Be Carnage may provide you with an unpretentious fun time, and that's more than valid, but its greatest purpose, which will define its future, lies in the post-credits scene, which adds another brick to the immense storyline that Marvel is planning and constructing with the multiverse.
And that after all, it's what everyone really wants to see.

The premise is "EddieThe first Venom (2018) movie was a very generic and forgettable superhero movie. I came out feeling rather underwhelmed by it but I still had some expectations for the sequel since it teased the iconic villain, Carnage. The premise is "Eddie Brock is still struggling to coexist with the shape-shifting extraterrestrial Venom. When deranged serial killer Cletus Kasady also becomes host to an alien symbiote, Brock and Venom must put aside their differences to stop his reign of terror". So does it live up to the title or is just another mediocre movie from Sony?

Firstly, Tom Hardy is still phenomenal as Eddie Brock and the voice of Venom. He still gives a very physically striking performance that is entertaining to watch. It is very clear that Tom Hardy is giving 100% and is also having a blast doing it. One of the most important plot points in this film is the relationship between Eddie and Venom and it is the biggest highlight. Eddie and Venom have a conflict that is similar to that of a rom-com. They are both arguing with each other, like a couple, on how they want to be a hero and how they want to live their life. It is so incredibly weird to see a man argue with an alien like they are married but it was so fun to watch.

Just from the description above, it is obvious that this film leans more towards the comedy side while not taking itself that seriously. Notably, a lot of the comedic moments and jokes made me chuckle. This is thanks to some great writing and performance from Tom Hardy. The final fight is also a lot better than the previous film as this time, I could see what was going on thanks to the director using good lighting. Venom: Let There Be Carnage also has a very memorable mid-credit scene that is quite shocking and amazing. Unfortunately, it is quite bad when the mid-credit scene is the most memorable thing this movie has going for it. The actual plot is a very generic superhero affair that is no different from the first film. It goes through a lot of the same plot beats as Venom(2018). Eddie and Venom clash then they break up, the bad guy is Venom but evil, Venom and Eddie reunite to stop the bad guy. There is a rom-com plot with Eddie and Venom but that is very unconnected to the main plot of Carnage. The first 2 acts is just Eddie and Venom arguing with some carnage plotlines sprinkled in and then the final act with the fight. There isn't a real strong build-up for the fight between Venom and Carnage. Carnage hates Venom for literally no reason which makes the final fight feel less meaningful. Additionally, Carnage/Cletus is a forgettable villain which is such a shame considering how iconic and amazing he is in the comics. This film butchers him completely! What makes Carnage/Cletus great is how ruthless both of them are. They are both insane murderers and together they would rip spines and heads off. However, due to the PG-13 rating there never really is a sense of "Carnage" and it feels boring seeing them in action. For some silly reason, they give Cletus a love interest in Frances/Shriek who has screaming powers. Why does she have those powers? Who knows because they never bother to explain it. The film confirms that Cletus murdered her grandmother and her mother in cold blood yet make him somehow really loving of Frances. It completely ruins his character. She is also the second villain in the film and she is also a garbage character that I wish they removed from the film completely. Near the end, some really stupid things occur as well with a certain character pulling a 180 when it makes no sense for them to do so. They also include a line that tries to make Cletus sympathetic but it doesn't work when you show him murder an innocent guy earlier...

There is also some returning supporting cast like Michelle Williams who they still waste in this film. There is also a new character Patrick Mulligan played by Stephen Graham who does a good job with what he is given but his character is very boring. Overall, I enjoyed it more than the first film but it certainly doesn't live up to the Carnage title. Thankfully, Tom Hardy is still enjoyable to watch and the movie is a lot shorter with its 90-minute runtime so it is not as exhausting to watch. However, it is still a shame that Sony still hasn't managed to create a great Venom movie but the mid-credit scene certainly makes me hype for a future movie even if this one was also quite generic.

It’s a simple movie with a short runtime that flies by quickly and there is something to appreciate here for a superhero/comic-book flick in this day and age to just embrace its campiness and B-Movie feel. Doesn’t make it good, though, as that can only take the enjoyment to a certain degree before one start wishing there is a bit more substance in the script since it’s more dumb than fun. The same camp-style can be kept but be a bit more clever with it.

Tom Hardy was good as Eddie Brock yet again and is easily the best part of the movie, I just wish he had a better script to work with. The odd-couple schtick was fun for a while but then it went on for far too long and the overemphasis on comedy in this sequel detracts more than it adds. The lack of focus on the villain and rushing that plot point to get to the big CGI fight finale also hurts the overall experience. Woody Harrelson was hamming it up in the role with what he was given and he was fun with a layer of cringe.

There were some cool/entertaining action scenes, the finale fight was certainly better than the first one. The movie, however, once again reinforces the fact that Venom SORELY needs to be Rated-R which would have made Carnage’s carnage so much better. With the first one, I get that they had to make a safe play, but with the sequel, they should have embraced the violence.

Not much else to say about this one. Kinda disappointed as I did like the first movie more which admittedly over time has fallen a bit in my eyes too. This character has a lot more potential than what we are being given and I hope whatever outing it gets next, it’s done better. If you enjoyed the first one, you might like the sequel but if you didn’t enjoy it, this won’t change your mind. And if I were to rate it, I’d give it a 5.5/10.

The film's time was very short. Carnegie is a character who is accompanied by blood and gore. This movie was very childish and full of funny jokes. Poor characterization and the only strength of the film was Tom Hardy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is terrible. So disappointed! To be honest I did not care for the first Venom, I like Tom Hardy as an actor but not in this roll. Everyone seemed to be going through the motions. Plus they killed off Carnage/Cassady.. that is insane. Only good part, is that if there is a next movie... it'll be in the hands of people who make good movies (usually). Expand

In regards to the first film, this is definitely better. The first one took itself way too seriously and was very poorly lite. This film definitely becomes much much goofier after the opening scene and has more of a sense of personality to it than the other film. There isn’t a lot of personality as it becomes very formulaic. All of the acting is pretty bad but in a fun kind of way. Tom Hardy is definitely having a lot of fun and gives the best performance but Woody Harrelson and Naoime Harris are so bad that they are funny. Their chemistry is nonexistent and even leads to some logical issues in the final battle with Harris’s powers. The visual effects range from pretty good to awful in the span of seconds. There is a scene where Woody Harrelson in his Carnage form is breaking a cage and it looks absolutely awful but the rest of the visual effects don’t look bad at all. The action and editing are both pretty bad but it’s more the fault of the editing than the actual action itself. The editing is very fast paced and cuts very rapidly where it can be somewhat hard to see what is actually going on. This is an improvement from the first film though. One major thing I will give the film is its enjoyment and runtime. It’s very short plus it’s hilarious. Most of the time it’s unintentionally funny but still very funny none the less. I found myself to be laughing at the film a lot more than usual. Even though I don’t have a lot of positive things to say about this, I would definitely recommend checking it out. Watching it with friends would probably be the best option. Expand

Admittedly, if it tried to present itself as anything more than what it put forward, it would be a definitively worse movie. It senselessly tries to recreate the best and most enjoyable parts of its previous movie - doing so without the brilliant subtext, subtlety or novelty of its predecessor. As a result, the talent of the cast is wasted and any potential for something improved is dead on arrival. And all that is left is uninspired silliness just for the sake of it. I imagine when obnoxious Hollywood directors talk down comic book movies, "Venom: Let there be carnage" is exactly the kind of movie they have in mind, and Iron Man (2008) to a lesser extent. Much has been made of the movie's end credit scene; I think it is meaningless. Overall, "Venom: Let there be carnage" is a disappointing movie, especially if compared to its predecessor. Expand

Carnage spends his time trying to find his old Girlfriend... Which is wtf. He has no GF why is this character even in the movie it just takes away from time that should have been spent between Venom and Carnage. Instead, they wasted all that on bad comedy and even if it was good comedy it still would have sucked.

I waited 20 years since the original Spider-Man Movie to see Venom and Carnage on screen and was hoping Spider-Man as well and what a waste.

Tom Hardy returns as the unassuming writer who’s possessed by the weird Marvel character, one that lurks inside his body but emerges as a hideously scary monster craving human brains. Much of the early time is spent with the inner conflict between the 2 of them, but there is a villain (Woody Harrelson) to complicate things. By the time the action hits full gear, it’s a CGI show…humans move to the rear, while the computers fight it out. Overall, there’s nothing new or interesting in the writing, direction or approach and Hardy is only mildly appealing. Expand

Not so much leaning on the comedic side of the character as much as it is throwing itself headlong into it with a brick in one hand and an engagement ring in the other.

Tom Hardy hits the delivery of the dumb jokes while also nourishing that disaster bi energy that he brought to life in the first movie. Venom is a queer icon now and it's great.

Woody Harrelson knows how to do creepy characters and is a good fit for Cletus Kassidy/Carnage. I liked the part where he said the word 'carnage' for the fifty-eighth time. I really liked the part where he just bellowed the name of the movie completely unprompted during a fight and the editors just kinda... cut to and away from him as quick as they could.

Naomi Harris leaning in to the edginess of it all is either a good fit for the character or a tad bit cringe-inducing, depending on who you ask. Real aficianados of the comic medium will recall how Shriek, in the Maximum Carnage run, actually said, "Make mine MURDER!" so take that as you will.

Michelle Williams somehow getting less agency in her character than in the first movie. Stephen Graham played a cop who shot a black woman.

Reid Scott got a paycheck.

But, for my money, the real star of the show was Peggy Lu as Mrs. Chen. Gotta give it up, some solid creative decisions in her scenes, not even joking.

The writing's at it's best when Tom Hardy talks to himself. Honorable mention to Woody Harrelson speaking like he's spiraling down, down, down, down giving cryptic lines and the occasional Shakespeare quote (SoMeThInG wIcKeD tHiS wAy CoMeS oOoOoOoO).

I found the editing to be a bit messy. Some odd decisions all around, really. Extreme closeups on faces that look pretty unenthusiastic, stage-fighting masked by cutaways that are juuuuust too late to hide how awkward the hits are, etc. At least the CGI monster fight didn't look like a swamp orgy. Thank you, Andy Serkis, for bringing your expertise to the table. Here's your Oscar for Venom: Carnage 2 Carnage.

I give this rating with all the love in the world. But all-in-all, this just kind of solidifies my position that, as amusing as the Brock/Venom dynamic is, they are not solo movie material and work better as a foil/secondary character/comic relief.

Kinda like what they did to The Hulk.

Or Spider-Man.

Hey, maybe if/when Venom and Spidey meet, Peter will stop simping over billionaires and actually become relatable to anyone who's not invested in whatever crypto that Elon Musk shilled on Reddit.

But enough about parasites. Go see Venom if you like dumb fun with symbiotes and pg-13 violence.

And stay tuned for Venom 3: Another Goddamn Symbiote Tries to Kill Everyone Again.

Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) is attempting to reignite his failing career as a journalist. When the opportunity to interview notorious serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) arises he cannot pass up the chance of the interview of a lifetime. Things don’t go according to plan for Eddie and Cletus becomes infected by the symbiote Carnage who proceeds to skip his execution and bust out of prison. Chaos then ensues.

I wasn’t exactly a fan of Venom but it made nearly a billion at the box office so lucky for us we got a sequel. I had slightly higher expectations this time around due to Andy Serkis taking over as director. No offence intended towards Tom Hardy but I never felt he was right for Venom and the role would have been better suited going to Andy Serkis instead but sure we’re here now. The scenes with Harrelson and Naomie Harris are giving strong Natural Born Killers vibes and honestly the only good thing I got from Venom: Let There Be Carnage is Woody Harrelson, he’s a show stealer in any scene he’s in. The rest of the movie feels like a buddy bromance movie between Eddie and Venom. It’s silly, ridiculous and not nearly as violent as it should be although it clearly found some sort of an audience. It didn’t make as much money at the box office compared to the first Venom but considering the state of the world right now it did quite well. The build up to the epic showdown between Venom and Carnage was just another CGI overloaded fight scene. Underwhelming and a quickly forgettable movie. I honestly don’t know why I keep putting myself through this.

Look the only way you’re going to enjoy Venom: Let There Be Carnage is to have your expectations as low as possible and just maybe you’ll find it a bit of fun. It knows it’s not a serious comic book movie and it doesn’t try to be either. Recommended for fans of the first Venom movie.

Venom stood out as the superhero had the villain inside himself and not outside, so he was the "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" or the "Alien" of the (2nd) Marvel Universe. The sequel betrays this main aspect by homologating to all other cinecomics. The quote of the duo Don Quixote and Sancho Panza already reveals a more marked separation between the two identities, consequently the new chapter of the saga sinks into the silliest side of the franchise and someone even ventures a reading in terms of homosexual relationship. In short: "Venom: Endgame".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wasn't really bothered about seeing this film, I saw the first one, it was meh but at least watchable and enjoyable in most parts. But this one? Somehow this was shorter than the first one but felt twice as long.

So I don't know if the people directing, producing and editing this film were on drugs at the time of conceiving this disappointment, but it wouldn't surprise me. As a matter of fact I'd hazard a guess that anyone who enjoyed this film who is over the age of 18 would also have to smacked off their faces.

With a good cast such as Tom Hardy, Woody Harrilson and Stephan Graham in the film I at most thought that I could enjoy their performances. Nope, instead I had to sit through the most boring and lazy acting from all the characters that I thought they were being held at gunpoint to do this movie.

Also you know you're going to hate the movie, when in the first 5 minutes of the film you a) have no clue what is going on, b) everything feels forced and is a cliche, and c) the editing is god awful. I am convinced after seeing this film that there were clips from scenes that were cut out, that would have made the scenes more coherent and digestible. Instead what we got was incoherent chopping between scenes that made know sense and confused me further.

Why is this film basically a PG13 film when the main characters of your movie, are villainous psychopaths who basically rip apart, murder and eat their victims? I dunno, doesn't make much sense to me one bit.

Overall, nobody on screen looked like they wanted to be there, editing was so bad I've seen film students put together better fan mad films, plot and story were boring AF, characters were one dimensional and cliche and.....it's just f**king boring man.

2/10 would never see again. What even was this movie?

Andy Serkis n co. have created something akin to chinese water torture.....slow, painfully arduous, takes forever to get to the point and at the end you're screaming to be out out of your misery. This have to be one of the worst Marvel-related movies I have seen. Thank god it only lasted about 80 minutes! I thought this would be better than the lame and tame first one, but no. Rushed in every way possible...

CONCLUSION :
Si je pouvais conclure ce film en un mot : nul !

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unfortunately, even if the character of carnage is nice, we find ourselves spending almost an hour and a half to have 85% of the film on funny jokes or not on the bad situation of eddie and venom, even if obviously the fights are as usual marvel, The encounter between eddie and cletus, as well as venom and carnage, is supposed to be a lot crazier than that, between venom that’s afraid of the carnage color, the rapid birth of carnage, or the venom story that’s completely wiped out from the base Venom scenario, I suspect it’s based on comics and the first movie. Its only advantage is of course the teasing of Venom in the MCU. This is the only scene I liked despite its more than disappointing ending, eagerly the next spider-man and the morbid movie to fix it. The last movie ended like "we do what we want" or "we eat bad guys" and here Brock is an idiot that change it all, there is no logical sequel between the two movies.
The first movie is far better than this.
The only point for score I gave is for the end credit scene

This movie is a train wreck of cringey, played-out, forced jokes along with plot holes and lazy writing. Sony is trying to make Venom, a once serious and dangerous character, into a PG-13 "family friendly" version of Deadpool. They absolutely wasted Carnage as an antagonist, and the character "Shriek" was marred with bad acting, poor development, and abused as a plot device. Sony misused two of its greatest character assets. Venom and Carnage are awesome, menacing, and terrifying characters! And somehow, Sony decides they are best used in an unfunny buddy comedy with a lame Bonnie and Clyde side story. The post credit scene couldn't even salvage this travesty. We deserve better as an audience and until they deliver that, this will be the last Venom movie I pay to see. Disgusting. Shame on Andy Serkis and a pox on Sony. Expand

I gave it 1 only for the after credits scene, other than that the movie is just flat out bad. PG movie with Carnage as the main villain is never a good idea. Just super forgettable and got nothing interesting about it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoiler alert for the fortunate ones who didn't bother watching the movie. I envy you lucky few. Well, just for starters, the only "Carnage" presented in this sorry excuse to make a buck off fans or kids, was done to towards the character instead. CK is portrayed as a victimized serial killer. He got the look done right, but all the dialogue was whack. I didn't get any serial killer vibes off him. Not the way guards would avoid eye contact. As for "Carnage", he is born by the biting the thumb of Brock. Yes, Biting his thumb. No Psychotic voices neither from CK, nor carnage. And CK is also a lover boy? In what universe does that sound scary? As if that wasn't bad enough he frees everyone inmates from prison! I thought I'd see heads flying, or at least some inmates getting chopped to pieces. But this movie is so censored, even when CK kills someone, it's either by getting choked or they don't bother showing. Don't even get me started on Brock. Venom 1 sucked, the sequel is even worse. I though the character would own up, and actually grow. There's no growth to his character whatsoever. Sadly, he becomes an even bigger loser, and depressive waste of skin. If you think about it, he hasn't done anything for two movies! Venom is the one cracking jokes and fighting. Brock is just the meatsuit. There's an interesting scene where Venom sees the markings of CK all over his cell. Venom has photographic memory and cartographic abilities. He accesses the internet and boom! Solved a murder nearly a decade old. While Brock doesn't do ANYTHING. As for Venom. They made him this family-Disney like character where he's cracking jokes the whole damned movie. Lethal Protector is the funniest joke in the movie (not really), Venom the almighty symbiote is forbidden to eat brains. Even from bad guys. We then see a castrated, fastened Venom. Another thing that WAS WAY OFF, is the insight Brock makes when he sees Carnage arguing with CK. "They are not a match like us" WHAT THE HELL?!
They were supposed to be an even better match than Brock.
I could go on and on, and I won't get my money back, but I think you got the point.
It's ok trying to change certain things from the original comics. But next time, try actually reading a comic or two before destroying a legacy.
Did anyone see any separation anxiety? I sure as hell didn't.
