Esta es mi pelicula favorita de Jordan Peele.
El suspenso que maneja la pelicula en el tercer acto es asombroso.

Accompanied by her husband and children, Adelaide returns to the beach house where she grew up. Four masked strangers, however, knock on their door, giving life to an unimaginable nightmare.
Still a social horror and a sort of critique of capitalism which, however, seemed to me to be a "not at his best" Jordan Peele. The film didn't fully convince me on the idea of dopplegangers as a metaphore to oppressed people who lives in the shadow of privileged ones. This movie seemed to me the smaller and less talented brother of Bong Jon Ho's "Parasite".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first 15 minutes are interesting, then everything goes down the toilet, nothing makes sense, and the "twist" ending is very silly. Not scary and too long, feels pretentious at times, the story is full of holes, and the characters are not likable at all. Feels like a trend lately... Expand

THE GOOD: Jordan Peele's hability to create powerful images is unmatched. Cinematography, score and Lupita Nyongo are the stand-outs.

THE BAD: The script and dialogues are clumsy and the final reveal/payoff is less impactful than what it should be.

A thing of beauty - with a major flaw that reveals itself in the final act and then ripples back, revealing a fault line that runs through the whole story.

You’re going to have to decide if that flaw will ruin this for you or if you can ignore it and enjoy the ride. The level of disbelief that Mr. Peele asks the audience to suspend, all the questions that the big reveal leaves us with and that Peele asks us not to wonder about - it left me feeling frustrated. But I’ve watched it a few times now, and the riveting performances within it, the masterfully fluid shifts in tone; I can’t help but love this.

I’ve decided to love it for what it is instead of resenting it for what it might’ve been.

I was content with my enjoyment of the movie, but then I saw all these negative reviews that all said the same thing: that the movie was confusing or illogical. Really? A HORROR MOVIE, THAT IS! Does Freddie Krueger make sense? Jeremy Vorhees? a pet cemetery No. In order to frighten us, most horror movies begin and end in fantasy terms that have some basis in truth. It was the first time a villain assaulted us in a dream, which is why Freddie Krueger frightened the living daylights out of people in the 1980s. Reality and fantasy collide. Expand

This isn't horror, and you don't even need jumps cares or deaths to make horror, but almost every scene from this trash looks like Scary Movie. Please if you liked this, reconsider your taste.

From many of the critic's reviews, this was supposed to be a great movie. The plot is horrible, the characters are unremarkable in every way, and the "horror" in the movie is laughable. The only redeeming quality, is Lupita Nyong'o's performance, which was excellent(which is the only reason I gave it a 2 rating). What a mess. I just kept watching it thinking that it had to get better, but it never did. It just got worse. Even the "twist" at the end is rather stupid. This movie is lazy, dumb, predictable, and just plain awful. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Us is yet another inventive and interesting horror film from Jordan Peele, although for me it’s not quite as good as Get Out was. Us is a more complex movie than Get Out was and you really have to watch to the end to fully understand why everything that happens in the movie happens. The end explains everything nicely and has a twist that caught me off guard and made the entire film a lot more interesting and gives you a lot to think about as the credits roll. There is a shot at the end that I don’t like too much, but other than that everything works really well. The core concept of the movie is slightly cliched but the way Peele executes it and plays off of it is really good and makes the movie engaging for its full runtime. In other words, the directing is really good just like it was in Get Out. The actors are great in their roles and perfectly capture how a family would feel and react in the situation that they’re put in in this movie. The horror is a bit more conventional than what we got in Get Out, and that works to the benefit of this movie due to its premise. Us uses camera positioning really nicely to give you goosebumps at times and an interesting kind of anxiety at others even when there’s nothing terrifying on the screen. This movie makes people standing next to each other holding hands seem really freaky, especially when they have the costumes that they do in this movie. The dialogue is unnerving at times, especially in the way that the actors deliver some of their lines, and the behavior of some of the characters is weird in a creepy way, which again the actors amplify with their performances. Overall the film flows pretty smoothly, although it goes a bit off the rails for me when we get the bigger picture of the movie and it goes beyond the primary family. I might’ve liked this movie a little better if it had stuck to a smaller scale and focused exclusively on the main family, but I can see why Peele took Us in the direction that he did and I think he did a pretty good job with that direction. This direction makes Us a unique horror flick and establishes Peele as a creative force in the horror genre. Overall, Us is an engaging and effective film and is another solid product from Peele, although it doesn’t quite reach the heights of Get Out. Expand

I waited on this film for a long time, and honestly, if had seen it seen it day one it would still not have been worth the wait.

The biggest issue is the worldbuilding. No part of the scenario makes sense. At all. I would like to get more into it... but years later at this point I doubt I would add anything no one else already had. The political message also really doesn't work either, given that the "normal" people don't even know that the dopplegangers even exist.

It's kind of interesting in it's own way. A class critique from a man who brilliantly understands metaphors, but who absolutely doesn't understand complex worldbuilding and even less understands poverty.

Skip it.

- Incredibly infantile & absurd plot (i.e. secret cloning lab under amusement park...)

- The absurd behavior of the main character, who remembers being a clone only at the end of the movie. The question is why did she realize it so late? after all, at the time of the change she was already a conscious child, so she should remember this situation well - Clones that spend their entire lives on imitating their counterparts can only grotesquely howl when confronted with the originals(who supervised their training? CIA? lol)

- I do not want to mention more, because the plot itself shows disrespect towards the viewer and offends his intelligence I don't know what was the reason for so many positive reviews (although I can guess)

The pace is great, we don't have any trouble understanding when we are on a flashback and when we are not. Scenario is crazy-original even if a bit (maybe consciously) confusing and confused. There are some truly interesting turns of events but all questions are not answered at the end. Acting is amazing especially by Lupita Nyong’o. The cast often tries to be funny and to laugh about their awful situation but it also often falls apart as they completely miss their points. Atmosphere is gorgeous thanks to well-balanced emotions: sometimes things seem so real, sometimes not but never really far from our reality. Characters' design is marvelous and don't fall in the trash-horror style. Angles, colours, visuals and scenes are absolutely gorgeous. The original score is amazing and especially the 'I Got 5 On It' classical Remix. Expand

A film in the horror genre that dares to be more profound.

The film starts off strong and goes on very well through to the middle. The whole thing is exciting and tends to give you goose bumps.

Then the film makes a big mistake for me and doesn't stop at the father's occasional comedic interludes, but inserts a longer scene that is supposed to be pure comedy but was not necessary in this film. In addition, it took you out of the tension and was just annoying.

After that, the film starts again, especially because it gets an interesting background and ultimately has a good ending.

It becomes a full slasher movie after the first hour, there's no more mystery at all. I was wondering how they're going to go back to horror/mystery after the "enemies" become fully revealed and start parading around on the screen. It becomes silly and boring instead, horrors are best when there's still some mystery around the "enemy". That's why pacing is really important to keep the tension. This movie completely lost that tension after an hour.

The backstory of the "enemies" is short, wish they would explain a bit more about them. The plot twist was kind of expected and it didn't surprise me at all. At that point, the movie was already full slasher and the main character was behaving like a blood craving supervillain. I mean she went out of the car alone into the woods to kill confirm one of the enemies and left her family behind to go all John Rambo for that last boss fight.

If you're looking for a shallow slasher movie, this movie is all for you. If you're looking for an actual horror movie, look elsewhere. Seems like critics always rate "horror" movies highly when they're not scared. This movie is miles behind movies like Insidious/Hereditary/Drag me to hell if you're talking about scariness/tension.

This movie can't get more than a 6 from me and that's me being generous because it's a 5.5 at most. Lesson learned, don't trust critics!

As a side note: It's nice that the cast is mostly black, the movie is kinda enforcing stereotypes that all black people just listen to hip-hop all the time. I'm black myself and listen to all types of music!

Jordan Peele creatively subverts the home-invasion genre in "Us." But Ugh, that ending!

The first half is outstanding. Lupita Nyong'o is excellent as always -- she's a moody complex character which makes complete sense after the "big reveal." Once that "big reveal" happens, suspending disbelief is difficult, even for a horror movie. It is almost as if they came up with the main premise, than spit-balled an explanation. The explanation / back story is so absurd it requires way too much exposition.

Here's hoping Peele gets more grounded in his third act.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. producers are so afraid to make a decent horror movie these days. it's either something done 20 years ago or a dumb story like this one. Could have been million times better but all hollywood is so concerned to dumbify movies so even a pavement stone can understand it. Also I think it doesn't matter if the movie is bad or not. If PR team has the money to buy reviews, the movie gets better ratings. Same goes with doctor sleep. Both US and DOCTOR SLEEP are equally bad and directors / writers should be ashamed of themselves for making such bad movies. “US” against us

“Us” by Jordan Peele, the once comedian and actor transitioned to innovative/revolutionary horror/suspense movie creator. Much acclaim could be given to this movie but I expect some will be taken away from the brilliance of this film purely based on comparison to his first film “Get Out”.

Nevertheless, this film gives you exactly what you want in a horror film. It has you watching behind your back, looking around the corner, and looking in the mirror differently. On a completely different spectrum, this film is capable of inspiring dialogue and discussion among friends, family, co-workers and allows you to share some laughs. Peele has struck gold again with this film in the way he’s played into people’s conscious and subconscious fears and the actual reality we live. Peele also found a way to tie biblical context to current reality seamlessly, further adding to the quality of this film. All of the above makes this a well-rounded film.

Now this film isn’t perfect by any stretch. If I have to nitpick, there is some predictability. Also the explanation in the ending, even for a fantasy movie, is unrealistic. It leaves you saying, “huh?” and “how’d they do that again?”. But all in all, that doesn’t make me tell a person to not see this movie in the theater. I wouldn’t be surprised if this movie gets some Oscar chatter, especially if it can gain a following similar to “Get Out”.

Either way, go see this in the theater and I’d even say get yourself some popcorn to smack on to ease the suspense he leaves you in.

Porém, teve algo que me incomodou: o humor.

Coming off of the well deserved success of "Get Out," Jordan Peele delivered us another potential smash hit with "Us." I really enjoy Peele's work, I like what he's doing with movies and I think "Get Out" really opened a lot of people's eyes with just how good Peele can be. "US" unfortunately represents a bit of a sophomore slump for Peele, which is unfortunate because this cast was fantastic. The film also had a good soundtrack, comedy that hit really well and did provide some intense moments of fear but unfortunately, the plot here is absolutely riddled with holes, especially towards the end that almost completely undoes everything this film does well. You can drive a truck through some of these plot holes, a lot of the things regarding the Tethered people make absolutely no sense and it drags this movie almost to a disappointing halt. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Don't waste your time watching this film, totally shallow, meaningless, too weak. It only got good grades in the "specialized" critics because the cast is mostly black including the director himself, so afraid of the social justice and the politically correct, they gave good score for the film but if you are going to see the users' grade is low. I just don't give a score 0 because the performance of Lupita and Shahadi are very expressive and well done, because all other characters are generic and without expression (it is worth mentioning the character made by Winston Duke, totally pathetic and despicable, How could a man of that size, with that height and weight can not kill a simple child or tries to kill an adult with a **** FLARE GUN????), this is an offense to the good movies of terror and suspense already made!!! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Us is the first salvo of what is shaping up to be an excellent year in horror (cf. Pet Sematary‘s remake this weekend, the sophomore film for It Follows director David Robert Mitchell, and–fingers crossed–the Mutants movie stumbles out of what is sounding like post-production hell to name a few). Jordan Peele’s work is part of a movement afoot to make films that reflect the diversity of the audiences that go to see these movies (check this Toni Morrison-type response to whether he’ll ever have a “white dude” star in one of his films). At the same time, he’s part of a new generation of Silver Age filmmakers who are interested in paying homage to the genre’s canon while also forging a way forward for new perspectives and new stories.

There have been a lot of think pieces (here are some of my favorites as of last week, n.b. spoilers, even in just the photos under the lead line) about this “social horror” film in the news for two weeks now, and rightly so, and a lot of comparisons to last year’s Get Out. I saw this with Friend the weekend it came out and then sat on it and read anything I could find that discussed the questions at the end of the film. So below is me just beginning to get in the weeds about this movie. I’m sure we’ll revisit later.

Us is a film concerned with granting agency to its victims, agency that empowers not just the protagonists but also the audience. When the would-be victims of the horror genre find new and inventive ways to outsmart their demons and transcend genre tropes, this also changes the audience’s relationship with the director and their experience of the story. The presence and thoughtfulness of characters’ agency puts Us into a category of horror separate from the slasher flick and the gore porn subgenres. Its interest in defining itself through metatextual references to other classics allows it to critique and transcend genre tropes.

I’m not sure I’ve written about horror films a lot in the past year since we started this project, but a couple of the things I’m always on the look out for when I see something scary is 1) flexible metaphors and 2) cuckoos. Kendall Phillips wrote (and others I’m sure!) in Projected Fears about the way in which each decade was defined by its monsters in its horror films. (Paraphrasing to the point of ruining the intent of the book) Dracula reflects the fear and fantasy of the overly aggressive, seductive, experienced male, endowed with wealth beyond his years, his beauty preserved for all eternity. Later generations took this metaphor and developed it for their own purposes: the 80’s fascination with blood in the midst of the AIDS crisis and the 00’s interest in emphasizing the aspects of forbidden love for a new crop of young adult readers (Ogi Ogas and Sai Gaddam devote a chapter to the evolutionary explanation for this kink in their book A Billion Wicked Thoughts). This is just to say that I’m interested in the way in which the metaphorical device which moves the action of a horror film acts as a vessel for the present moment’s social and political anxieties. The more flexible the device, the more it can be used in fresh ways in a story and the more often it can be used to connect different kinds of experiences with one another.

To address the other thing I’m looking for in horror films, it’s my contention that just like previous decades defined themselves with an infatuation with a particular monster (vampires, werewolves, demons, and ghosts), the past twenty years of top tier horror in print and on the screen have featured a new kind of monster, the Cuckoo. A cuckoo is a kind of creature that adopts the characteristics of a person familiar to the protagonist in order to hide in plain sight, with the express intention of feeding off of its new host. For me, a lot of the best new entries in the genre are films that feature cuckoos, like the monsters of Neil Gaiman’s The Game of You from the Sandman (which explicitly call them this), or Coraline, or Ocean at the End of the Lane, and films like It Follows, the terrifying German indie, Goodnight Mommy, that’s mentioned in Vulture’s excellent article at the top, Del Toro’s luminous canon of work, and more recently genre-busters like Personal Shopper. Us is deeply interested in the concept of the cuckoo. A lot of my confusion with the film right now has to do with trying to decipher just what kind of commentary the film has on cuckoos and what issue it is examining with the concept of “tethering” and the peculiar(ly impotent) form protest that the untethered resort to.

Hopefully we can dive into this more soon. I really want to hear your perspective and theories. I think there are a lot of rocks to turn over on these questions.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is very bipolar. Performances are solid across the board, the music and direction are all excellent, it's just a shame that the script is sub par. Us is just another example of the decline in Hollywood writing. The movie appears to be trying to make a statement about the socio-political issues first and an enjoyable horror movie as a distant memory.
This is made wholly evident by the scores of the critics vs the audience.

How could anyone, government or otherwise, have the time resources, infrastructure and staff to create all those clones. Why would you create so many if they had no purpose. How do the clones behave when you are driving or flying? Why did Red not mimic Adelaide? why didnt other clones just leave? why didn't Red leave earlier? Why create clones designed to kill their "originals" purely for the reason of the originals not knowing that they exist.

Great Acting, terrible script.

Towards the end, "Us" is painful to watch. Truly a bad movie. It almost makes me depressed to know that this movie was released. How, could any self respecting hollywood producer/director/writer/etc put their stamp of approval on this slapdash nonsense. Worse yet, Peele injects his own toxic and polarizing blend of social opinions. I suspect this may actually be the reason the critic reviews are so skewed to an obviously bad movie. The box office smash Us is proves that great movies don’t come easy, but there is a lot of talent and passion that makes a film like this work. Warning there will be some spoilers in this synopsis, but the ending will not be revealed for those who do want to read it. So, dear reader, read at your own risk.

The film opens with text about how several tunnels running underground in America. Afterwords, an ad on an old television comes on for a Hands Across America and how we can be tethered together, more on that later, to stop poverty. We are then showed our lead at Santa Cruz as a young girl Adelaide, performed by Madison Curry, walking away from her parents and into a house of mirrors labeled Vision Quest. She sees a version of herself that is real but it’s not quite her. She runs away and is in shock of what happened. Cut to present day and Adelaide all grown up, played by Lupita Nyong’o, is going on a vacation with her family to relax. But when her husband wants to go to the boardwalk, but she declines at first. But after much convincing she goes back. From there things are not as they seem.

Get Out, his previous film, was a film that no one saw coming. It won an Academy Award for best original screenplay. It has gained massive accolades and is considered one of the best horror films ever made. After I saw the film personally, I wanted to know what his next project was. Cut to December 25, 2018, when the trailer was released for Us. I was ecstatic to when the film was coming out and I went and saw it in the theatre.

Jordan Peele's second film is a triumph in cinematic horror. I feel I am not being hyperbolic when I say this, but he not only made a great movie but he cultivated an experience that can't be replicated. Jordan Peele is the modern auteur. He is in full control of these projects and as a unique vision that isn't shown in mainstream storytelling. When you see Us, you know that there is passion in what he makes even if the symbolism is not very clear. For me, I would like to see movies in where everyone is giving it their all which makes an entertaining movie.

The film should be studied for its structure and symbolic nature. It not only will give people conversations for a long time but will entertain everyone for years to come. Us, to quote another iconic auteur, may be his masterpiece.

As many have said, Get Out was a lot better than Jordon Peele's second film in the horror genre. The film seems to focus on its message before its plot. Jordan Peele blew everyone away with Get Out and I’m really shocked to say that, in comparison, this film is a significant dip in quality. The performances are really memorable and engaging, with Lupita easily being my favorite part of the film. The cinematography was interesting throughout and I loved the film’s theme (Anthem), even though the rest of the soundtrack left a little more to be desired. I just found myself disappointed with the plot and where it goes in the 2nd and 3rd acts. There’s a lot to like about this film but a lot to shake your head at so I know I would have to see it in the theater again to really solidify my opinion.

Its great and very thrilling. Every moment was good and very well done and honestly I'm very surprised on what Jordan Peele is doing. I respect his work and I'm here to watch his future films. 'US' is memorable and definitely better than Get Out.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was expecting much more out of this movie after enjoying "Get Out" so much. The hard truth is that "Us" fails to connect on even the most base level. It makes no sense how or why any of the events are transpiring. They "explain" it kind of but it's still nonsense. The ultimate twist/reveal was so hackneyed and predictable I almost schvitzed. Acting was good and the cinematography was good but the overall story and execution simply left too much to be desired. Not a horror or thriller.... Just a comedy. Like an Adam Sandler movie.

Builds suspense well enough, but the ridiculous implausibility of the plot kills the experience midway through. You may get a laugh at least, but it will be AT the movie, not with it. Idiocy.

Utmost crap, colage of 1000 books and movies, banal ideas. So poor, I cannot understand where the great reviews are coming from. Black Panther supporters?

Unfortunately, this movie didn't live up to my expectations after "Get Out". It had an interesting beginning but it sort of gave away its plot and if you slightly pay attention you can pretty much figure it out long before the ending.

The acting is pretty neat and the way it's filmed sort of holds it up quite well.
I was surprised by the soundtrack, which was quite good, fun. It definitely felt like an interesting take on the horror genre but sadly it falls short.
The whole plot was just sort of...boring.
Still worth a watch but there are better choices out there.
I'm sure Jordan Peele can do much better than this.

+ Good acting
+ A well-shot film
+ Not bad soundtrack
+ Good movie elements

- Not much of a horror
- Predictable
- The plot was weak
- Doesn't really go anywhere

Overall it's slightly below average.
