It's sort of as if one took the National Treasure franchise to the ultimate extreme of ridiculousness, and then tripled that! National Treasure was a fun romp. It's not as bad as people say, it's a decent Indiana Jones type of flick, it doesn't really stick to the Uncharted games universe, but it's ok as an average action adventure movie.

Its a fun movie, I think the story could get away as an Uncharted story. Tom Holland is an ok Nathan Drake, Sophia Ali is a good Chloe but Mark Wahlberg is not sully at all.

I didn't watch Holland's Spiderman movies so I didn't confuse his role as Nathan Drake with Peter Parker. Yet I couldn't see any resemblance with Nathan Drake himself. This Drake though a young man looks more a troubled and lost teenager. He doesn't do anything that great in the movie that we could see him badass like Nate is in the game. Sully looks more like a new character as well a Chloe. Though the movie picks a lot of eferences and background from other chracaters in the game franchise including the comics. The antagonists are uncharismatic, uninteresting and some of them you easily forgets as the movie goes on. There's nothing really great in the movie Expand

While I never really played the games at all, I still found myself looking forward to this one, as it appeared to be a pretty fun adventure flick worth passing the time for, and sure enough, it delivers on the entertainment factor just fine, even if it gets a little ridiculous and over-the-top with the action at times. Furthermore, Holland and Wahlberg make for a great and oftentimes witty and amusing duo. Their chemistry and teamwork was easily my favorite part of the film. The action is quite entertaining throughout as well, and storywise, it gets the job done well enough despite being a little cliche and 'been there, done that', as well as having a frustrating cliffhanger of a mid-credits scene. But overall, it's a fun and passable enough action flick, even if you're not too familiar with the games or have never even played them. Expand

The chemistry between the 2 leadsTom Holland teams up with Mark Wahlberg in this adaptation of the titular video game. They're off to recover a lost treasure, while dealing with several people who are also after it with much comic repartee. The chemistry between the 2 leads is passable, but the dialogue never gives them much chance to explore it. Interestingly, Wahlberg was originally supposed to play the younger role, but time took its toll, so Holland shows off his newly-pumped torso 3 times, while Wahlberg dons a tank top. As for the adventure aspects, anyone who's willing to accept the absurdly improbable plot will have lots of action scenes to take their minds off the implausibility of it all (unless you rely on video game logic). The pace never lags and some of the visuals are grand,  but the whole thing feels forced and hokey. NOTE: Stay thru the early credits for one final scene that sets up the sequel. Expand

Uncharted; the movie based on a video game, looks like a video game, feels like a video game and honestly you’d be better off actually playing the video game.

Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) is a street-smart history obsessed barman who gets recruited by treasure hunter Victor Sullivan, aka Sully (Mark Wahlberg). Together they are searching for the lost fortune of Moncada, treasure which was lost 500 years ago and just waiting to be found by someone smart enough to figure out the endless clues. An unlikely pair, both driven by their desire to find the lost treasure. Holland and Marky Mark end up running around Barcelona in search of clues to the gold, with neither the charisma of Indiana Jones nor the entertainment value of Nicholas Cage, it’s not quite National Treasure and it’s nowhere near Raiders of the Lost Ark

I feel fans of the game may get more out of Uncharted. There’s certainly enough references to the game and some scenes that look like they were straight up lifted right out of the game. Although it’s got some nice locations, the story is very predictable and it doesn’t show you anything you haven’t seen before. In terms of the video game to movie adaptations it’s definitely one of the better ones though I’ve still yet to see a great one. I’d put it on the same level as Tomb Raider. Tom Holland is a great little stuntman and clearly the popular choice to play a slightly younger Nathan Drake, no doubt hoping to get a franchise out of this. Uncharted hasn’t done too bad at the box office, meaning we may not have seen the last of Holland and Wahlberg on their search for treasure.

Uncharted is nothing you haven’t already seen in National Treasure and Indiana Jones. Entertaining in the moment but instantly forgettable afterwards, recommended for Tom Holland fans and anyone who enjoyed Tomb Raider.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I enjoyed a smidge more than half the film such as witnessing the arduous visuals, action sequences, and international antagonists that are at the same level as the games that I highly admire.

I obviously had some flaws with this flick such as making Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan look younger, Elena's absence, and some of the jokes that do not make me smirk identically in the games. The one time I most definitely smirked was when a cast member made a cameo. What this film lacks is that in the video games there was always a plot twist in the final chapter/act such as the truth behind Drake's mission and him doing some thinking for his own to put an end to the mutiny, making me nickname Nathan Drake "Nothin' Muckrake." Another flaw that this movie has is the pasting of environments from the games and the movie not originating a set that feels like I'm re-watching a cutscene from one of the games.

To top it off, this film is like a summer blockbuster released in February that is enjoyable to sit through but concerned about the story.

Which is more than positive considering that he is the face of the film, but it's worth noting that this is basically the most important thing he can offer to this role, mostly because the script doesn't give him elements to prove otherwise. It's too early to say that as an actor he doesn't have much range, but Cherry was not a good showcase for him in that regard, and in The Devil All the Time with only one scene. Robert Pattinson completely devoured him.

Uncharted is a film that tries in every way to be fun.
It tries to be expansive, it tries to be and feel really big, and even though I really didn't want to mention this, because the film doesn't have to look like the video game, the video game itself has an aura the film simply can't replicate.

I think the casting outside of Holland and Mark Wahlberg was pretty bad.
Antonio Banderas gets completely squandered as one of the villains, while Tati Gabrielle completely lacks the credits and skills to be the real villain the film required.
I was basically watching her do the same thing she did in the Sabrina show for Netflix.
Acting cheeky and seductive just doesn't cut it. Even for this story.
And Sophia Ali share's no chemistry with Holland. The main strengths of this tale lie in its action sequences, and some of them are pretty great, but they don't quite make up for its biggest gaps. The narrative feels completely made as it goes along, and while it's well known that a film like this doesn't need a big plot, you can't offer something so thin either. The problem here isn't that it doesn't offer entertainment, because it does, and for some people that will more than enough, but to me it felt like a soulless entertainment, that lacks wit, charm and spirit.
Uncharted feels empty, despite its visual spectacle. Which upon completion will leave no lasting impression.

Not even for the reasons you might think. Currently, I'm finding it hard to compartmentalize the "Uncharted fan" and "garden-variety filmgoer" personas upstairs. Both have slightly different opinions on this thing. The "Uncharted" fan in me finds this thing vacuous, basic and borderline heretical. The movie lover in me finds it decent at best, with a couple engaging set pieces and a generally straightforward, if formulaic, narrative. I don't want to give this thing a pass, but I'm also trying to mitigate the amount of fanboy sweatiness emitted by yours truly. I guess, if we were to synthesize these two mindsets, I'd say I'm simply disappointed. This could have been the start of something great, but yet again, we have to endure talk about how hard it is to adapt video games to film. Perhaps the first mistake was adapting a video game that already feels so much like a movie into a movie. In any event, there's really nothing behind the eyes here and the eyes aren't even really all that great to look at either. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Uncharted is another messed up video game adaptation. The story is just average but lacks real emotions, and completely derails at the ends. The actors are all of them, miscast. They are all too young of don't fit the roles well. Exception made of Banderas. But they kill him in a most stupidest and useless death scene, I have ever seen. The videogame tries to make the experience real in terms of action, but the movie is completely at the opposite of that. And it even falls into ridiculous when you get around the plane scene at the end (and beginning), and the horrible, laughable flying boats. The music is generic at best. This is just another movie that doesn't respect it's material source. The movie is shot in a very classical way, when it could have been a very stylistic video game presentation. Gone are the incredible vista shots, the realism, the archaeological elements of the videogame. Even the dialog banters from Nathan are almost absent. I give the movie 38%. Mainly because I think the actors are at no fault here. Expand

I'm going to be honest, I didn't know what to expect from this, from the trailers it looked like your typical action-adventure but you never know from video games adaptions given their not-so-good track record but I'm glad to say I enjoyedI'm going to be honest, I didn't know what to expect from this, from the trailers it looked like your typical action-adventure but you never know from video games adaptions given their not-so-good track record but I'm glad to say I enjoyed this for the most part.

The performance from Tom Holland as Nathan Drake was good, really it was never gonna be a spot on reflection from the games but as the feel is concerned Tom Holland put in a good performance that makes you feel he is playing Nathan Drake in this case a younger Nathan Drake from the games, and that's all I wanted cause I was concerned he was gonna simply act as himself or a typecast of Peter Parker (not saying he does this is all his movies as he has proven to be a very good actor, especially from his acting roles from No Way Home, Cherry or Devil All The Time) but that wasn't the case as he goes do a decent job of portraying Nathan's charm, humor, confidence and off-brand witt from the games.

However, although I did enjoy seeing Mark Wahlberg as Sully onscreen I felt like his portrayal of Sully was a mixed bag goes he goes in and out of the role. For example, when he is first introduced in the movie he does do a decent job in playing Sully(a young version of him I keep forgetting lol) and genuinely puts in effort but in some parts of the movie it seems like he just acts as himself(the loud talking, quick witted and often erratic roles Mark Wahlberg is known for) and that might rub some fans the wrong way, I wouldn't say he was miscast but it was jarring to see but his saving grace was the chemistry with him and Tom Holland as Sully and Nathan was charming and very good and captured their banter and mirrored their relationship in the games quite a bit. Antonio Banderas although it is a joy to see him on screen he plays your generic bad guy who has Daddy issues and kills without a thought and that was disappointing so see, also Tati Gabrielle who played another villain showed some signs of being a badass was just another generic bad guy weak motivations. Also, Sophia Ali as Chloe was decent and she worked well with Tom and Mark.

The Story is nothing special as it's your typical adventure/treasure hunt but the games were really never known for their storytelling but its unique characters, set pieces and epic action-adventure and although the movie isn't perfect in hitting all those notes it does do a good job of capturing the set pieces and adventure aspect of the games to a decent amount and you can see Sony did their homework and put some care into this project and it's quite entertaining to watch on screen. Although predictable at times, especially some of the twists and turns that the movie tries but you could see from a mile away it had heart to the story as you follow Nate's journey and his motivation to find treasure and his lost brother. Even though it does hit some of the same notes from adventure movies you've seen before I was entertained still cause of the characters mostly Nathan and Sully, the humor was actually pretty well balanced and not forced and funny for the most part. The visual effects and CGI were spot on I mean Sony rarely disappoints on the visual effects on its high-budget movies. The pacing, for the most part, was decent was well balanced but at times it felt kinda slow but it wasn't a major problem and the action was decent and there were some memorable stunts too especially from Tom Holland's action set-pieces as Nathan Drake, especially in the third act was enjoyable and high energy and some pretty decent nods and references to the games too.

So as I stated Uncharted at the end of the day is not the Perfect video game adaption that will blow everyone's mind but considering the low amount of good video game movies I'm glad this is a decent movie that I rather enjoyed from the performances from Tom Holland and his chemistry with Mark Wahlberg as Nathan and Sully, the humor and mostly entertaining action and set pieces. Although generic at times this is a success for Sony and a step in the right direction for the future of Video Game Movie adaptions.

I kind of enjoyed it as a regular action/adventure movie, but I'm quite the critic so that's probably why I disliked it much more than normal people. Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg were terrible castings. Tom Holland is NOT Nathan Drake. He couldn't even try to sell it, even as young drake. Horrendous. Mark is just a painfully obvious bad choice for Sully. It's frustrating that they chose these two people. It seems like they chose Tom Holland just because he's popular. He didn't give me Nathan Drake vibes at all. I also hated that they made Tom seem very dumb many times throughout this film. Nathan Drake isn't a genius, but he certainly isn't dipsey dumb like a stereotypical blonde. Dude can remember and reiterate historical events and knows geographical areas where treasure could be for thousands of years, but then doesn't know about an earpiece or says obviously dumb things??? That makes no sense. They seem to do that with Tom Holland in many movies, like spiderman. I don't get it. It's overdone and boring. I will never watch this movie again. I really hope they remake it properly. It seems like companies don't put their passion, love and soul into movies anymore. Should have had someone who loved Uncharted passionately to help make this movie. Some scenes were cool though. Some scenes were extremely implausible and it seemed like they were just made so they can slap some "amazing" CGI. I called this happening when they announced this film. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have to say, it's not a bad adventure movie by any means, if you haven't played the games this will be a good adventure movie. Is it an Uncharted movie based off the Uncharted games? No. There's a lot of inaccurate parts of this movie that is not true to the games storyline. For example the fact that Sam gave Nate, Sir Francis Drake's ring in the movie. In the game it was Nate that found Sir Francis Drake's ring not Sam. Also in the movie it was Victor Sully that met Sam first before he met Nate, however in the game Sully met Nate first when Nate was only 13 at the time. Again they're taking parts of the games but not being accurate to the games at all. I give this movie an average 5 out of 10. It's a fun adventure movie, with great actors with awesome scenes and actions. But this is nothing like the Uncharted games at all. Now I thought this movie was suppose to be the story before Uncharted 1 game, because if you do follow the storyline. Nate and Sully did several adventures before the main games came out. That was when Nate first met Chloe before he met Elena, which in the movie that was accurate. So I thought the movie was going to go with that storyline, again it would've been accurate for that timeline, Nate would've been in his mid 20's and Sully would've been in his early 50's which is the exact ages of the actors in the movie. But no they took parts of Uncharted 1, 2 and 3, mashed them all in one movie, that made no sense at all. In conclusion this movie is great and fun if you never played Uncharted, but if you are an Uncharted fan, just be warn you maybe a little disappointed. Expand

The story suffered several odd changes, Nate and Sam have a quite different origin story, the brothers never went treasure hunting together, Nate never reconnected with Sam after his departure from the orphanage and the circumstances in which Nate and Sully meet are very different. This of course would be ok for me as fan of the franchise if the changes made here were in benefit of a better narrative, but it's not really the case. The narrative and plot progression of this movie is far more trivial than that in the games, and the changes made seem not to be taken advantage of, which makes that choice on doing so pretty pointless. The action in alright, the acting too, Tom Holland portrays decently what could have been a pre-Drake's Fortune (young adult) Nathan Drake, but the movie doesn't make justice to the game series unfortunately.

But there is still fun to be had with the film. It picks and chooses small elements from all the games its from and doesn't do too much all at once so as to not overwhelm casual audiences. As a massive fan of the gaming franchise, the little nods to the games where very welcomed and much appreciated. The script features basic character development, but the dialogue is awful. I can't really say its a good script therefore. The pacing is uneven, we start in an action scene so we spend the next hour just eagerly anticipating that action scene to return, we lose track of everything else because its not what we care about. Holland and Walberg do have chemistry, even if they aren't right for the roles. Can't say I look forward to the future of this franchise, and whilst I stand behind the fact that this is not a good film. Atleast it can be entertaining one, and there is a lot worse it could've done. Expand

Personally I found the characters unsatisfactory and badly readjusted. All potential characters put into play for an hour and forty do not evolve, they remain flat and redundant. Nothing really manages to make people say: wow! Entirely a work adapted for a audience exclusively fans of videogames or very low coast action adventure films. I have not found anything really excellent in the whole, both direction and photography remain anonymous and classic. Finally, the screenplay loses its meaning both in its coldness and in its desire to be extremely hasty, and in its not being suitable for the transposition of the videogame Expand

Como película de aventuras es entretenida a secas, nada del otro mundo.

Como adaptación prefiero no opinar ya que jamás he jugado a los videojuegos de Uncharted.

It was like an interactive film that was inspired by films such as Indiana Jones and National Treasure. So it isn't too surprising that it got a movie adaptation. However, video game movies are known to be bad so I didn't have high expectations. Does Uncharted continue this video game movie curse or finally break out of the mould?

The biggest thing I enjoyed about this film is the action sequences. They are fun to watch even though they are defying physics. The thing is though that the big action set piece is just ripped from the game. Tom Holland is a charismatic lead and it is clear he is still great at being the main lead in the film. It was also clear that Tom was giving 110% in the role. Antonio Banderas was also pleasant to watch as the villain. I love the charming yet cold nature of his performance.

However, Tom Holland just doesn't feel like Nathan Drake. His character is shown to be a thief at the beginning which fits Nathan but then afterwards he becomes a saint that won't give in to greed. Nathan was never the perfect guy in the games and was kind of an a-hole at times. He also had fun quips and tend to complain about the absurdity of the situation but in this film, he is lacking in all of these qualities. The same can be said for Chloe and Sully played by Sophia Ali and Mark Wahlberg respectively. Sophia gives a fine performance but her character just keeps being very dislikable and Mark is just playing himself so Sully just ends up being bland. Antonio was doing great as the villain and had clear motives but he is replaced by Tati Gabrielle who is just underwhelming and lame. In the end, the characters are all underdeveloped and uninteresting.

Another amazing aspect of the game was the action set pieces. They were just visually so awesome and Drake always felt like he was in danger and could die. This is not the case in the film. Drake never feels like he is in any mortal danger and this could be due to the silly weightless and slapstick feel of the action. There is also a fight scene at a Papa Johns that feels so shameless and blatant in product placement. Additionally, the story and writing feel so basic and predictable. The writer just copy and pasted the typical treasure hunting plot from previous movies with slight changes and called it a day. The interactions between the characters aren't funny and lack the heart that was seen in the games. Every scene of talking is either pointless or just saying exposition. Due to this the movie has so many moments where the pacing just slows completely. Overall, Uncharted (2022) is a soulless cash grab that inherited none of the qualities from its source material. It doesn't try to do anything original or even crazy and just plays completely safe which is just disappointing. The Uncharted franchise has always been about these over the top set-pieces but the director would rather be more interested in copying it and not doing it as well. That is the best description of this movie, doing everything that the game and previous treasure hunting movies have done but not as great. It did well at the box office so is likely to get a sequel but I sure hope it isn't like this first outing.

A decent adaptation of Uncharted 3 & 4 wouldn't say it's a good adaptation of the games due to the games already being movies themselves.

Everything in it was seen so many times, the jokes were not funny really, it was quite predictable (the only thing I did not expect was the killing off of Antonio Banderas' character so early on). Let's face it, an Uncharted movie, especially one in 2022, has an uphill battle coming 20 some years after the Lara Croft hohum adaptation. And instead of an age appropriate version based on the games, Sony is banking on building a franchise with young, box office hot Tom Holland as the young Nathan Drake in what's basically an origin story. Yes, I know a portion of one of the games had an origin plotline with Drake' s brother and meeting Sully. But that was a minor part of the games. The fan film with Nathan Fillion and Stephen Lang (a pitch perfect Sully) was ten times more FUN and entertaining. That's whats missing from Uncharted. A true sense of fun and actual adventure. Holland is charming and definitely agile (I did like the injoke that Drake admits he's not a dancer..ahem, Lip Sync Battle?). Wahlburg is basically doing Andy Samberg' s SNL impression of Wahlburg. I actually expected him to say, "say hi to your mother for me" at some point. Like the recent Tomb Raider reboot, maybe they can hit the ground running with the follow up, but for now....eh. Expand

Forgettable action adventure film that failed to make full use of the playstation game's franchise. While it was entertaining there was nothing particularly original in the screenplay and action scenes. That aside, it was a high quality production.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was coming here to leave a very positive 8/10 review, but hesitated while I tried to figure out what it was about a movie that felt like a classic 80s/90s action film seemed flat and lacking.
At first, my thought was Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider movies all turn out to have supernatural elements that raise the stakes at the end. That would have been nice, but it wasn't the real issue.
While most people have praised this for not being political or woke, there is just enough wokeness to weaken the film.
We start with a villain with extremely deep pockets and resources, an important backstory that ties to the plot, and the will to do what it takes to find the treasure. Unfortunately, two thirds of the way through, he's out and a tiny woman of color with zero backstory becomes the protagonist. She's greedy and isn't afraid to kill. That's it.
So everything that came before was a waste of screen time and suddenly there's much less bite to the villain. She's working with a bunch of mercenaries no longer getting paid. Are they putting their lives on their line in hopes of finding the treasure? What's their cut? It doesn't seem like the new villain likes to share. Will they only get their regular hourly salary? I suppose that's only if they get to the treasure first.
There was a possible romantic interest that disappears during the back end of the film too.
Yeah, the third act is extremely weak.
There are too many hints of story threads for a sequel. If they were cut, it would have improved the film's pacing as well.
Finally, the post credit scene is obviously cobbled together at the last minute. Half or more of the dialog is overdubs; characters talking with the camera to their back or focused on someone else.
Most of the movie feels like it underwent a lot of rewrites and reshoots.
Good action. Almost a good movie, but after some time thinking about this, the critics are right.
4/10. I want my time back.

The shamelessness of openly saying the originals that one purports to copy, Indiana Jones and Jack Sparrow (but then why not also "Tomb Raider", "Crocodile Dundee", "The Mummy", the diptych "National Treasure" and the one with Douglas and Turner?), betraying them with more and more action ("Ethan Hunt", "Jack Reacher"), Marvellian superoism, youthfulness ("Cocktail"). It is precisely the cocktail of genres that replaces a real renewal of adventure cinema: for lack of ideas or for marketing advantage? Idle question.

Uncharted

A safe action flick.

The title of this movie evokes the feel of something new or fresh, but Uncharted is nothing of that sort. It's very reminiscent of flicks like Jungle Cruise and Pirates of the Caribbean, without the charm that those flicks hold.

Tom Holland is a very capable lead, and he does his best to provide a memorable protagonist. Tati Gabrielle and Antonio Banderas as villains aren't opposing or menacing enough; Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg as a pair are also fair.

The action sequences are good, especially the one that occurs in the air (though a little farfetched), but they don't elicit genuine danger for the protagonists. The treasure hunt also feels contrived, and the path they tread to acquire it is bland and unexciting.

At the end of it all, Uncharted is an average action flick.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand
