The high expectations I had for this film after it won the top prize at Cannes were, I think, quite exaggerated and I blame myself for that.

For such an obvious work, subtlety wasn't going to get it anywhere insightful, but it also doesn't work to be so overly unrefined about it. And it's not because I think what it attacks doesn't deserve it, but the criticism of the elites has become tiresome when it's nothing more than a fleeting piece of entertainment, even if the film is almost 3 hours long.

Triangle of Sadness is a film that pretends to be so much when it begins to mindlessly circle around in its own redundancy and banality. And while this doesn't lead me to say that this makes it a low quality film - which it doesn't - its engagement reminds me of the expression ''panem et circenses'' as we are entertained by the performance that is supposed to mock the elites who don't give a damn when they wallow in their excesses.

It was not bad per se, but it is too long, and its impact is ephemeral.

Recomendo.

Satires are usually either a hit or a miss for me. Whether I understand the message is not really where things all break down for me either. Instead, it's the communication of the message — the execution — that can make or break a satire for me. Am I lectured to? Talked down to? Beaten over the head? With "Triangle Of Sadness," Östlund nails that sweet spot of delivering a nuanced message in a satisfying manner, with inarguable entertainment value and great performance work throughout. This piece covers so much ground — narratively, logistically, as well as thematically. It's really quite impressive work. I think the best thing I can say about a satire is that, when things round out, you really get a clear sense of the filmmaker's take on the subject matter at hand. I think "Triangle Of Sadness" earns that acclamation in spades. Expand

They are soon plagued with foodA young and rich socialite couple (Harris Dickinson and Charlbi Dean in her final film role, as she tragically passed away this past August) board a luxury cruise along with several other affluent members. They are soon plagued with food poisoning, seasickness, and eventually find themselves stranded on an island as everybody comes to a reckoning with their wealth, social status, class, etc. Winner of this year's coveted Palme D'or at the Cannes Film Festival and directed by Ruben Ostlund (who helmed 2017's Palme D'or winner 'The Square' and 'Force Majure'), this is a film that pulls no punches in satirizing the wealthy/privileged or those with high social status, as class is heavily lambasted here in several poignant, clever, and even sometimes funny ways. Performances from all involved are fun to watch here as well, with Dickinson and Dean turning in great performances here, as well as Woody Harrelson as the Marxist alcoholic captain running the ship. I will say however that at two and a half hours, it does start to beat a dead horse with its savage critique of the wealthy about halfway through the film, and the ending, while somewhat unexpected, also proved to be a bit underwhelming and too little too late for my liking. But overall, it's a rather sharp and humorous satirical look at the contrast (and unexpected dependency) both the rich and the poor have with each other, even if it feels a little stretched out with its two and a half hour runtime. If anything, hopefully it'll put all those who are privileged in better check. Expand

It was a gross out fest for a solid half hour. I'll spare you All the gory details.Sorry swedish director but no one is into that. in the 3rd act they even quite sadly murder a distressed donkey which was utterly disgusting. Like why?!! Most bits trying hard to be clever, fall flat. The director inserts a very weird and boring (30 mins max!) appearance by woody harrelson as ships captain, who phones it in with a wealthy, Russian oligarch. Which begs the question, If these people are really that filthy rich?!!why don't they own their own yachts?!! Triangle gets interesting again for a few minutes when Somali pirates swing into action after the storm has passed. The second half of the film is a modern take on the British film of 1957 called Paradise Lagoon or Admiral Crichton in America. Where a butler goes off on a tricked out yacht with his rich useless Lord and his family. They get Lost at sea and then shipwrecked on a deserted isle. The Butler becomes the de-facto leader of the merry band of misfits because he can make fire, hunt, fish ect... This movie is basically about class hierarchies, but with a few switch ups, but not much else...The ending was unnecessary and rather bizarre. Not the film I was hoping for, About 45mins to an hour too long. Where was the editor?!! It was a bit of a train wreck. Save yourself the trouble and watch Paradise Lagoon instead. You'll be glad you did!! Expand

Triangle of Sadness is grotesque on so many levels, it’s absolutely insane and I loved it. If you haven’t seen it already, fix that now because this is an experience not to be missed.

Celebrity couple Yaya (Charlbi Dean) and Carl (Harris Dickinson) are invited on a luxury cruise for the uber-rich. What starts as the picture perfect and most instagrammable voyage on the sea quickly turns sour and ends in the most catastrophic way possible. Now stranded on an island, they must fight for their survival. Sure who wouldn’t want to be stranded on an island with a bunch of self-centred millionaires, what could possibly go wrong in that scenario?

Triangle of Sadness is unique, fun and disgusting all at once. It doesn’t pull its punches when making fun of the model industry, the ultra-wealthy and how they’ve accumulated their wealth. It’s a satirical commentary on class and how the other half live, especially how out of touch with reality they can be. So ultimately when everything starts going catastrophically wrong you can’t help but think “ah sure don’t they kinda deserve it.”

It’s grotesque in how some of these people end up treating the staff who must endure their insufferable requests. I’ve never been on a cruise (and after this, that’s even less likely to happen) but anyone who has or those particularly who’ve worked on them I’m sure can relate to this. As disgusting as some of the people portrayed in Triangle of Sadness are, there are moments where you’ll almost feel sorry for them, but you might also be wiping the tears from your face from laughing. A story that places these uber-rich people in a survival situation plays out about as well as you’d expect. It feels like two movies joined together, with the first act reminding me of Zoolander at times, then eventually descending into a more Lord of the Flies vibe, with a third act taking a strange turn.

Perhaps a satirical comedy about some of the most horrific people isn’t for everyone. The seasickness scene particularly is horrendous and maybe you should make sure you’re done munching away on popcorn at that point. It does seem a little drawn out in places, yet I was never bored, but this did make the abrupt ending feel like it came out of nowhere. Despite that I still thoroughly enjoyed Triangle of Sadness.

Harris Dickinson is certainly having a great year onscreen, Where The Crawdads Sing, See How They Run and now Triangle of Sadness all in 2022. The guy is going places that’s for sure and I’m sure we’ll continue to see him in lots of different movies to come. Alongside the late Charlbi Dean together they are brilliant as the model/influencer couple. After winning a trip on the yacht, they seem a little out of place next to all the others who’ve bought a ticket. Although they also have questionable character traits you do feel for them when things descend into chaos. Woody Harrelson always puts in a great performance, if anything he could have been used more. Also Dolly De Leon is another standout performance, she is wonderful. Everyone brought their best to this movie and it shows. It didn’t win the Palme d’Or at Cannes for nothing and after this I intend on checking out director and writer Ruben Östlund’s other movies.

The cinema was completely packed and in stitches laughing at the Triangle of Sadness. So, if you’re in the mood for something a little different and done with all the horror movies right now then here’s your movie. If you’re still unsure the trailer gives a pretty good idea of what you’re in for. Highly recommended.

'Triangle of Sadness' is the kind of movie that tries to offer something new. Here it is the form that attracts attention more than the content.
Because this movie is visually very interesting : it is bright, colourful, sometimes dark and it combines many different environments. Actors are likeable even if some (as Carl) desperately need some more depth.

The film is divided into three acts, surely referring to its title as well as the love triangle on which the plot focuses in the last act. But this separation in acts doesn't bring much to the storyline other than a complete change of set. And that is the main flaw of the movie : the story doesn't move on with events, it is the events that bring something vaguely looking like a story. And if the first half of the movie is really promising and throws a lot of parallel sidestories, the second half makes it ridiculous.

The film oscillates awkwardly in the reading grids it proposes, from the social grid (with allusions to friendship, love, equality between partners, careers in couples, etc.) to the most trivial grids (such as our human condition, our concern to look good, to seduce, to make wealth a priority). And the quality decreases even more when disturbing and shocking scenes appear and try to make us laugh. It questions many cultural and political aspects, but doesn't seem to offer a true reflection about it.

Inconclusive except in the two fleeting moments dominated by the soundtrack: during the opening credits with Suicide's "Ghost Rider" (1977), at least until it turns out that it is the sampling on which in 2010 M.I.A. based the song "Born Free" with the famous video clip directed by Roman Gavras rattling off his usual gratuitous violence, and during the upheaval of the yacht captained by Harrelson while expoding "New Noise" (1997), the most famous Refused song. Then the age-old question that afflicts Buñuel and the epigones resurfaces: one can defecate on the establishment and in a single indelible sequence of not even 5 minutes ("Le fantôme de la liberté", 1974), but if then that same establishment showers you with awards (Oscar, Palms, Golden and Silver Lions), it means that the attack was nothing short of unproductive.

Unfortunately or fortunately, the best film adapted from Robinson Crusoe. ( A complete film)
Unfortunately, because this happens in a movie that, in addition to focusing more on the drama parts, lacks the soul and sense of storytelling. (or is afraid of doing it) but fills this problem with appropriate and calculated humor. Fortunately, because the director has a good understanding of the characters, the chemistry of the stars (especially Tracy Woody Harrelson) and also the society he wants to portray, and achieves a gentle reality . and works better than than the big budget adventure films. I think that this movie is the best and most cinematic work that is very similar to Daniel Defoe's Robinson Coruso.
This Ruben Östlund's film which is made with a relatively small budget, is also the meeting point of a "familiar and slightly soiled kind of realism" with " almost perfect exciting adaptations "which their biggest flaw is the lack of that realism. But it still lacks the soul and sense of storytelling found in few successful blockbusters. And one of its interesting features is the ability to remove many of its parts.5/5

Part 1 and 3 of this movie are good but not great however Part 2 is so amazing and hilarious that it carries the rest of the movie.

Brilliant movie. Was never quite sure what I was watching, but loved the characters and the dialogue and the situations. Just a few scenes that fell flat for me, or felt like they were dragging the movie down to a lesser level, but really aBrilliant movie. Further proof that this has been a great year for movies. If you enjoyed “The Menu” and “Banshees of Inisherin” this movie should be right up your alley. If you enjoyed “The Menu” and “Banshees of Inisherin” this movie should be right up your alley. The first 20 minutes of the film had me close to turning it off, but I’m really glad I stuck it out because once this film gets going, it really gets going. A thought provoking and entertaining film that had me tearing up by the end. This film has so many twists and turns you never know what to expect. I went into it off a coworkers recommendation and I have to say going into it blind with no foreknowledge of what the film is about is the best way to view it. Enjoy. Expand

The first 10 minutes are brilliant but after a promising start the satire becomes extremely heavy handed. The director takes great care to build a tension at the beginning of the film, then throws it away with an extremely obvious message. The first 10 minutes are brilliant but after a promising start the satire becomes extremely heavy handed.
