I will say that it's not original in the sense since it's basically go to the future to try to save the present and fight an alien species with of course the female/queen is the toughest. it's somewhat cliché, but there are some plot points that add some unique twists. The acting is also good. great fight scenes. I'm not sure why this movie is getting such a low rating by the critics. If you're able to watch this film, go ahead it's not that bad. I do think the movie could have been shorten just a bit, like the few first minutes of the movie doesn't really add that much to the film and could of honestly skipped the first 5-10mins. Because this movie is like 2hrs which is definitely a time commitment.

It wasn't perfect, BUT it was entertaining and ALOT better than what has been coming out the last couple years. I would say for a reference "A Quiet Place" was perfection and this was entertaining, so still a win.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So the movie is quite good. There are a few flaws but that's to be expected when messing with time travel.
The whole concept of sending regular people to the future is explained simply in the people they're sending I.e those who wouldn't be alive at the time of the war. That's troops who otherwise wouldn't be helpful in the future

The complaints about weaponry not being technologically advanced is easily explained too. They say the teleporter is held together with chewing gum and chicken wire. That's because they don't have resources. With the whitespikes wiping out humanity so fast, all economy and technology would be unavailable (who wants to farm resources mid alien invasion) so they pooled their last resources to create the teleporter. The ideas of tanks and jets are also good, if you don't take into account that they were used (jets anyway) and seemingly sparingly, almost like they don't have the resources. Couple that with the accelerated breeding of the whitespikes, humanity is pretty outnumbered.

The ending however is a brutal paradox that ruined the movie in my eyes. How can they go to the future to learn of the whitespikes and find the toxin to kill them, if that future never existed. No future, no toxin, no knowledge of whitespikes and that's the end right there

Other than that a rather enjoyable movie

I don't get the low brow response to this film. Frankly as a harsh critic of all things action and Sci fi, the premise of the film was absolutely captivating. Chris Pratt played his character amazingly while pulling at some heart string too.

Ignore the critic hate. Yes the plot isn’t perfect. But the actors, action, and special effects keep you engaged. With a plot good enough to tie it together in a fun sci-fi flick.

The story seem to look like Starship Troopers at first that catches the attention, but surprisingly goes to a different direction and twist later on. Chris Pratt and Yvonne Strahovski did a great job to play out their characters, and the supporting cast were convincing enough with their limited screen time. There is also a nice balance of story-telling and action scenes in the movie to keep the viewer interested. Overall, the movie is not at all ground-breaking but was "enjoyable" to watch, and it sends a discreet basic "moral lesson" on how to be a better human person that is lacking in movies nowadays. The story, the spectacle, even the emotions are larger than can be squeezed on a home TV. Chris Pratt plays a soldier who travels into the future to help fight an alien invasion. The story is full of references to other sci-fi classics and a few confusing plot points, so it’s up to the production to offer new angles. The alien is a cool design, the action scenes are solid and Pratt’s personal charm helps in the dramatic family scenes. Other than that, it has all the required elements for a big screen blockbuster and some of them actually deliver. Expand

I'm still always surprised at how many people vote anything a 0-3. Did this movie personally attack you? Anyway, Chris Pratt did a solid job, with the rest of the cast being decent. The visuals are really good most of the time, and one scene in particular looked really cool. Props to the visual team. The music is terrific too. But, it isn't all roses and candy. This movie has 3 issues that prevented it from being great. The pacing, the writing, and its delivery as a whole. The pacing is all over the place. The music gets you ramped up for when Pratt and company go to the future, and just falls flat with the action. You expect Pratt to be on this rollercoaster ride in the future, and he is.....for a little while. The down time is really dry, and honestly boring at times. I kept thinking that these would be perfect opportunities for the cast to shine with some heartfelt, emotional scenes where their acting chops would be on full display. Not really. There are a few moments where Pratt delivers a great performance, but there are others that just fall flat. I'm not sure if this is directing, or just on the actor. But to Pratt's(and the rest of the cast's) credit, the writing is just 'meh' for a majority of the movie. Unfortunately, most movies currently released suffer from poor writing. It's rare, when a movie is written well, or even decently nowadays. There were moments when I was shocked at how poor the dialogue between two characters was. This is what these people do for a living? Really? Most fans could do better with a team to help them. It's crazy that this is a serious issue that many films and TV shows suffer from in 2021. Where are the creative minds that gave us terrific stories in the semi-recent past? I hope that this trend doesn't continue, but it isn't looking very good.

The delivery. It's just okay. As I've mentioned, you have poor writing and bad pacing, which makes it awfully hard to nail the landing on delivering a good movie. Many of the story choices had me scratching my head. Why would you put this here? Why would someone say that? How can you mess up a movie with a large budget and a good cast? I think we've all been wondering that with many of our favorite franchises over the past few years. This movie is no exception.

So, how can I give the movie a 7 after I've spent most of the review covering the negatives? It was entertaining. It had me engaged for most of its runtime. Was I happy with everything? No, not really. But it was honestly better than what I thought it was going to be, and it had a lot of near misses. What I mean by that, is that it had many scenes that were forgettable, but if they would have had a little better writing, a little better pacing, and a script that the actors could get behind, this movie would have been huge. Overall, I like the movie. The problem is that I wanted to love it. It's just missing some of the key ingredients that make movies great.

I would recommend this movie, but temper your expectations and don't expect anything amazing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was pleasantly surprised with this one. I really, really liked it. Although it does have a bit slow start that's confusingly different in styl, it kicks off later. The buildup of the monsters is great, and although their design isn't really anything spectacular, the way they move, the way they're revealed, the first encounter reminds me classics like Aliens (although nowhere as good). When i compare this movie to other recent CGI monster borefests, there's one big difference. I was actually emotionally invested in this one, much to my surprise. Someone recommended this movie to me, i decided to check it out late at night, and couldn't stop watching. Although we're used to Chris Pratt as the lovable dumbass, he can pull of a badass character (as long as he doesn't take himself seriously). The premise is simple. 30yrs from now, monsters invade the Earth (noone actually knows where from, no spaceship, no asteroid), humanity is down to 500K people, so a time-machiney wormhole to draft people from the past (our present time) is created. Draftees get a special implant/device that sends them to the future for a week ("tour of duty"), after which they're automatically pulled back to their original timeline (as long as they still have pulse). Survivors of the tours are often horribly mangled, PTSD'd to the point they can't even talk. Survival rate is cca 27%. This builds up the coming conflict really well. We don't know what the monsters do, what they look like, just that they're everywhere and hard to kill. Our unwilling hero is an Iraq veteran (although not the usual movie kind, he left army and teaches science in high school), lives in suburbs with wife and small daughter. He gets drafted. He considers escaping with his family, but in the end goes in, and that's where the action starts. Something goes wrong, the draftees get misdropped to a heavily infested area, and fight for survival starts. Seeing the monsters on pictures or in trailer doesn't do them justice. There is a lot of them, they move extremely fast and they are very hard to kill, they are a huge threat. Although i in no way compare this movie to Aliens in terms of quality, there were moments where the monsters made me think about Aliens, in a good way. But Aliens also had a great supporting cast, which is missing here. The few draftees that survive the first encounter are sent to a FOB, where Chris Pratt meets his (now adult) daughter. She's researching anti-monster toxin. They already got one that works on the male warriors (tons of them), but not on females (only few, hiding in dens). So they need to nab a live one to do tests. They do, but in the process trigger a massive attack on the wormhole generator base. Shortly after Chris Pratt is sent back to his original timeline, wormhole gets destroyed. So he now has a toxin that kills the monsters, but he's back 30yrs before the conflict even began. When he was gone, world started tearing itself apart from the weight of the knowledge that mankind might lose the coming war. There are riots, wars breaking out, and everything looks like people will kill each other off before the monsters even get here. The way the monsters are dealt with in the end isn't really surprising (there's a "twist" that isn't twist for anyone who ever seen any other SF movie), but i was satisfied anyway. For an Amazon monster movie-it's good, a whole level above the competition. The main cast is likeable, the monsters are terrifying, and i was emotionally invested during most of it, which is something almost none of the recent netflix/amazon type of movies were able to pull off. I was also glad, that there wasn't heavy-handed identity politics message crammed in, and all the strong female or "diverse" characters were strong because it made sense in their respective situations, i.e.they trained and/or studied their whole lives to be good at what they do, not just because some studio exec wanted a box ticked. What i didn't like was the cheesy "people from the future" reveal. The first people who originally jump into our current timeline are soldiers. They appear on a soccer field in the middle of a game, and somehow get immediately connected to the TVs broadcasting the match live, and give speech about who they are and what they came to do. IMO this didn't need to be in the movie at all. It could have been handled via exposition, or even via text at the start of the movie. I know that movies should show, not tell, but the soccer stadium scene almost made me turn the movie off, it's that bad. The 2nd thing i didn't like was that the supporting cast almost isn't there. There's the main hero, his family, and that's about it. Apart from them, there are like two 1dimensional stereotypes (a comic relief and a badass veteran who never smiles), everyone else is just a side dish for the monsters. So, although this movie doesn't do anything new, what it does it does reasonably well, and i had a great time watching it. Expand

The parts set in the future were excellent and the last act was a pleasant surprise from where I thought the story would go.

This is also Chris Pratts best movie after Guardians ( I actually prefer this but I think I'll be in the minority).

I really liked all of the performances here and even more I appreciated the somewhat fresh turn of where the antagonists originated. While I would likely watch this again it would be purely for the action sequences because frankly the set up for the story to move the plot forward at every point breaks my suspension of disbelief. I’m not recommending it beyond people who love sci-fi, but if you have “Prime” and if the other creature driven movies that Pratt has recently been in entertained you then you might enjoy spending the time on this popcorn flick. (I didn’t know were to put this, but Sam Richardson is quickly becoming someone who if they are in a movie or TV show I’ll watch it. He’s really entertaining and he doesn’t disappoint here.) Expand

Welcome Back to Stream to Big Screen! This week let's take a trip to the future to fight The Tomorrow War. This Prime Video summer blockbuster was released for streaming this Independence Day weekend. A sci-fi, action, adventure, thrillerWelcome Back to Stream to Big Screen! This week let's take a trip to the future to fight The Tomorrow War. This Prime Video summer blockbuster was released for streaming this Independence Day weekend. A sci-fi, action, adventure, thriller what more could a viewer ask for on a holiday weekend. The Tomorrow War depicts a future world in which a group of time-traveling soldiers arrive and ask for help to fight a global war against a deadly alien species. Among those recruited is high school teacher and family man, Dan Forester (Chris Pratt). Determined to save the world for his young daughter, Dan teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and a rag tag crew to rid the world of these aliens. Let's see if it's worth watching.

The Tomorrow War has so much potential. I mean just check out the trailer below. It had some creative elements, but then the filmmakers decided to make it as predictable and cliched at every possible moment you'd expect. I mean this is like the greatest mish mosh of summer blockbuster movies I've ever seen. If you like any of the movies I'm about to say, you will absolutely like or be entertained by The Tomorrow War. Here we go: this movie was concocted in a lab with remnants of Independence Day, World War Z, Edge of Tomorrow with a little mix of Prometheus. I mean that's a pretty good line-up... right?! Yeah, but not when you know the everything before they happen. For what it's worth, the story is sincere at times, but then again, it's the same story we've seen. "I gotta save my daughter..." *boo hoo!* "Oh wow these aliens are dangerous... let's go do some reckless stuff that doesn't make sense to stop them." Shock and awe!

Anyway, Chris Pratt is typically a solid actor, but here he was just Pratt from everything else. He's part Peter Quill, Grady from Jurassic World and shoot even Emmett Brickowski (just kidding but that made me chuckle). The rest of the cast is ok at best but shout out to J. K. and him bringing extra swag to this flick. They didn't use him that much but his scenes were worth it. Either way, just like the characters falling in the movie this movie is chalk full of plot holes. Some holes are so big you get Tenet-brain. You ask, "what's Tenet-brain, S2S?" Tenet-brain, formerly Inception-brain, is when you really start to think about what happens in the movie the movie just gives you a headache and or comes apart at the seams. It's best to go into a potential Tenet-brain movie with an open and empty mind. Let the movie just entertain you and not inform you. As this movie runs for 2 hours and 15 minutes, they try to inform you a lot and you have to duck and dodge all of the plot holes that might make you think. The movie feels like 4 different movies in one and while that may seem good... it just feels so long.

SUPER LONG STORY short, The Tomorrow War is a solid movie that was just too protracted. Led by Chris Pratt as a less annoying Peter Quill, the movie is entertaining and family friendly with the action and thrills many like to watch. The Tomorrow War absolutely could've come to the theaters and done well as a long standing matinee flick but it's probably better suited as a streaming flick on Amazon Prime with a bowl of popcorn.

You've seen it all before. This film borrows all its script from other movies, and uses all the usual action movie tropes.

I thought that the CGI was very obvious and stuck out like a sore thumb, the physics and lighting was off so it was obvious the CG aliens were not actually there in the environment so that took away any tension or threat for me. The aliens were shouty with pointy teeth but not menacing at all. JD Simmons is brilliant, and steals the show in every scene he is in, but otherwise I found it quite underwhelming, especially for the money that must have been spent on it. No wonder it missed the cinema and went straight to streaming, I think it would have been a flop.

It's a dumb sci fi movie but it knows that and has fun with it. It has an interesting concept too but don't think too much about the entire logic of it as it doesn't make a lot of sense.

It's a fun action movie and that's okay.

Didn't care for Yvonne Strahovski, but then again, I never do. Would have liked more Betty Gilpin, and more back story for the future people. The scenes when they are just pushing one button on the computer for the match were comical too. In the end though, it achieved its goal. Expand

2) Typical inconsistencies and incongruities of stories with time travel: do we have to resign ourselves or nip them once and for all? Maybe one day we'll decide.
3) Work that, under the superficial facade, would conceal two types of depth: the intergeneration pact, that is, the assumption of responsibility by parents to guarantee a future for their children, and the familistic melò essential to guarantee the receipts to a Hollywood blockbuster.
4) Speaking of blockbusters, there are multiple and repeated allusions to this kind of product in its 90s version. Operation nostalgia or a well-deserved tribute?
5) Does the final result justify such a detailed analysis? Mah.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Decent usual sci-fi, The story was usual and the pacing was little off and on, The music and cgi was good and the acting was amazing, The time-travel was not that complex and the whole survival concept was intense in future, The most time movie focus on family and survival aspect which lessess the action but whatever it was it was awesome, The starting intro and 30mins were slow, The future people invade and whole help us thing and then the voulenteer stuff it was dramatic with the death day stuff, The father and son dynamic at start as hated one the acting of jk simons is brilliant, The timetravel scene and the ensemble to the mission and the first jump it felt awesome, Then the rescue mission and escape was intense, Then the future version of daughter and the father's relationship and the monster queen kidnap with dozen of monster army around it was amazing, Then the before back to past scene the daughters sacrifice and that whole falling sequence was eye catchingly beautiful then back to past the final mission to find alien ship, The school boy help was fun and the snowy mission and fight at russia it was intensely amazing the queen monster fight and the dad's humor at end it was a good end then the family meet at the end it was satisfying, Overall it was little slow but the family stuff and the monsters were good, Its a decent movie! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I liked the movie, it is an ok one, but there are a lot of issues with it This movie was more thought as a man's redemption story and his fixing his past and future family issues rather than a sci fi or horror movie, and even then it makes little sense, and they really didn't think their science very well for this movie It has its funny moments and its tear jerkers, but then when you think of it, that stops on its tracks, here is why: First, what makes no sense about the father daughter story, if what is thought(And it is not science per se) about time travel would be true, then Muri telling daddy how he died and that he left them, would've erased that Muri(even if there are different timelines created, because it would be HIM the one that knows and can avoid that fate, so for him and Muri of that timeline it would've all changed) Now going about the aliens The dad is a super smart scientist, yet when the daughter tells him he is taking the toxin back to mass produce it so they can stop the white-spikes, he says he is coming back for her and won't let her die, if you are a scientist you would immediately deduce that if you change what caused the war, if you kill them, that future is gone, so he'd've saved her The way they come out to invade also makes 0 sense, they are totally unresponsive until they start to get inyected, so how did they go out to the surface and start the invasion? The very model of average.

While it starts off visually appealing, those slick graphics quickly give way to bog standard concrete cooridors, warehouses and refinery sets. Much as you would expect from middle of the road sci fi.

The premise is exactly what you would expect. A war in the future, so time travel hyjinx and paradoxes ensue.

Nothing here is particularly wonderful. It just succeeds on being average and not offensively so.

One of the pros this film has is it has one of the most clearly defined 3 act setup as any film in recent memory.

Just dont let the solid performances from the cast or the early slick graphics or the later huge cgi esplosun set pieces deceive you. This is very predictable, by the numbers affair. Its reasonably watchable. I know I have wasted time on far FAR worse without half the nominal payoff this film provides. Just watch it and then just as quickly forget about it. You probably will never think of this again after watching it as long as you live, but it will mostly keep your attention for its run time. 5/10. Firm

If the humour is good, the lines they say are really weak at times. The time travel aspect is full of holes. At least the movie have good actors in it. The performance of Pratt felt somewhat, robotic at times. The FX are really AAA. Nothing bad to say about the CGI. The Aliens are very convincing. The music is pretty good. A bit out of place on 2-3 occasions. Great sound. I give it 55%. Mainly because of the secondary actors that were very solid, and the quality of the production. The plot is not far-fetched to put it in a certain way, but it does stretch its possibilities too much.

The Tomorrow War is a big movie that is just trying to be a show, and part of me would be happy to leave it at that, if it weren't so empty in most of its elements.

The main problem would be that it tries to be an epic and does not succeed.
The scale is ambitious of course, but the execution is flawed.

Another problem would be Chris Pratt, who is basically another Ryan Reynolds.
The guy has no rank, c'mon.

The Tomorrow War is merely a blockbuster attempt that I really believe would have failed miserably in theaters, and that says a lot.

If you're looking for something to pass the time this weekend, you will undoubtedly have an offer that will cover a two-hour fee.
After the weekend, it will be completely forgotten.

Good to watch if you're not looking for anything to critique or dissect, because this film falls flat on it's face once you pay attention.

The story is as linear as it can get, there's no criss crossing or layering. Actually, nothing is explained in great detail, so when you're trying to invest in the lore, you can't. it's like Pratt has a force field around him, in fact it's like the danger is always one foot away and never able to pounce because the characters are needed for the story to continue.

Some of the scenes are done really well, they make you pay attention and you can tell underneath, there's some real authentic ideas when it comes to cinematography.

It's just the acting, it feels like it's deliberately toned down.

Well the overall actions and story was satisfying to the average viewer, I wish writters would consult experts before filming their stories. They used a reference to time being a river within the story and how they are paddling up and down stream to time travel. Although that theory is a good theory what problem it creates is in the story SPOILER they Donnie Darko it by making it that nothing that happened in the movie could have possibly happened with how it ends. You can't stop something in the past without rewriting the future if you use the river theory. Therefore the story does not make sense. The moment they killed the last alien the entire timeline would have corrected itself stopping the first time travelers. Had they fast forwarded to the creation of the time machine and ended the war there that could have worked. Kills the story for all intellectual people watching.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The idea behind the film isn't bad, although telegraphed and without any real plot twist. but what really doesn't hold up is the script. Too many things don't add up, creating notable holes in the plot.

Attention, from here on, it contains partial spoilers!

The first example of weird plot hole is that it's unclear what is the purpose of sending citizens poorly armed and untrained to only being slaughtered, instead of concentrating the effort in researching better weapons and armors and send only trained soldiers. Also, why use such inadequate weapons as assault rifles, which obviously do very little damage to super-armored mega-aliens? It is difficult to believe that there are no more sophisticated weapons 30 years in the future, when rockets, missiles, flamethrowers and grenades, never used by soldiers, are already there today and would do much more damage to the aliens.
Again, when they finally discover the serum and immediately the bad monsters attack the base, I understand that they don't want to waste the only dose on the captured queen, but why don't they kill her in the traditional way with some other weapon?
There are many other plot holes, for example in the management of paradoxes related to time travel, I will not list them all, but the general impression is that the development of the script, although the subject was good, was a lazy job made by amateurish people. Such a pity.

It isn’t bad at all and it’s a turn your brain off kind of movie but it still isn’t great. Chris Pratt is good. He brings a fun and engaging set of charisma to his roles and he is no different here. His character is very one note though. His only motivation is that he cares about his daughter which isn’t a bad motivation but the film is begging for more character development so that the emotional moments feel more impactful. Sam Richardson was fun but he really doesn’t do a lot during the movie besides adding some comic relief to it. All of the other characters are very forgettable although I did enjoy J. K. Simmons presence even if he had basically nothing to do. Since this is a time travel movie, the logic is out of the window. There were several moments involving the creatures or characters that made me think, “Hold on. That’s a big paradox”. One moment involves Chris Pratt’s character and the general from 50 years in the future. He wants to bring her back to the future with him but he cares so much about doing it that he almost dies at one point which would have screwed over the people in the past. And even if he succeeded in bringing her back, that would have created a massive paradox with two of the same character not to mention that she would just disappear since the future wouldn’t happen. Like I said, the more you think about it, the worse the story gets. The action is fine. It isn’t super impressive but it’s not bad. It’s serviceable for the story and it has its moments. The visual effects, aside from a few shots, are really impressive actually. The creature design looks terrifying and the visual effect artists do a great job making them look real. If anything, you should check this movie out for that. If you want a fun Chris Pratt movie then I would recommend checking this out but don’t expect a masterpiece. Expand

Don't get me wrong there were enjoyable moments in the movie sure but this movie doesn't know what it wants to be. It starts out fine enough chris pratt going through what you might call a mid life crisis(almost akin to walter white in breaking bad) and the movie does a decent job with the introduction of major plot point of the time travel war. But the movie does an absolutely terrible job of explaining anything. The premise of why only certain people can travel to the future and vice versa is actually a great one. It makes absolute sense in this case why the actual military isn't enough. But the idea that sending untrained, ill equipped, uninformed civillians into a war zone is just so astonishingly stupid. The movie gives the reasoning that the future is so close to the brink of falling that they just need expendable shock troops to buy time but the draft is done so poorly and without any semblance of logic that you can't help but just scoff at it. Most of the characters introduced can barely be called characters, they are just mentioned so they can be used one more time close to the finale of the movie. The only major characters are chris prat and the Co of R force. But their emotional "moment" is so forced. As if they screen writers were telling you HEY THIS IS SAD FEEL BAD FOR CHRIS PRATT, but you can't they movie shouldn't make you feel sympathy for a character through their own actions. When watching spider man 2 for instance you feel for peter parker because he's just a guy who can't catch a break. You feel for tom hanks in castaway because you can understand his loneliness and despair. I can't feel anything for chris prat because he hasn't really done enough for me to care about him. They needed to spend more time establishing his failings as a father/husband and not just say you were a bad so and so and therefore should feel bad. Every thing that occurs in the future is so cliched so nonsensical and completely idiotic that you can't help but wonder WOW no wonder why they are losing so poorly. Just to give an example of how stupidly this movie is written. The main bad guys the whitespikes are mostly immune to gunfire unless aimed precisely at their throat and abdomen. Yet every single draftee is armed with basic weapons you'd find in any military movie. Very clearly an m14 doesn't work why are you arming them with these. Later on they attempt to capture a whitespike for study and how do they do this? They use Neanderthal tactics and attempt to have regular humans(albeit well trained ones) TIE THEM DOWN WITH ROPES(metal ropes but still) and that goes about as well as you would expect. How could you possibly feel empathy for their plight when they are so stupid you have to wonder how they get dressed in the morning? The finale of the movie is okay, just okay. All of the one line characters get brought back like HEY REMEMBER THIS GUY HE WAS IMPORTANT THE ENTIRE TIME. But I will give credit where credit is due, in the last fight they actually make a good decision and the design of the whitespikes is pretty good. Its no xenomorph but it looks intimidating their effectiveness is shown decently well.

Final verdict- It's incredibly mediocre, you can call out every plot point before it happens because you've probably seen it done a dozen times over. The premise is actually interesting and the action scenes are fairly good. If you just want an okay movie to watch with friends and not really think about it than it does that just well. It is mostly inoffensive besides the emotional melodrama at the midway point.

An interesting concept that is plagued with plot holes and just some bland presentation.

I didn't expect much going into this film. The trailers are pretty clear that this is a loud, noisy, silly alien invasion film, with a time travel twist. But should have been good, clean fun.

It is fun at times, but the tone of the whole thing is off. The scenes that should be funny aren't all that funny. The touching scenes aren't. And the usually charming Chris Pratt isn't. He just seems to be working SO hard to be light and breezy and sincere...and he comes of totally generic. Just like the aliens. Yet another film where the aliens are essentially giant insects that can't really be killed by the firing the really fast guns at them. A supporting cast with promise, but little to do. Sam Richardson, normally effortlessly funny, shows himself sweating. Betty Gilpen is wasted as "the wife" when she could bring so much more to the table. JK Simmons is actually quite good, but then they give him little to do. I'd say Yvonne Strahovski (who I was guilty of under-estimating until she blew me away in HANDMAID'S TAIL) comes off best. She handles her weapons well, and brings just about the only glimmers of emotion to the whole affair.

The time travel element is unusual, but holds very little credibility. Warriors arrive from the future (this is NOT a spoiler unless you haven't seen a preview) to everyone that mankind is near the end and the only solution is to bring more soldiers from OUR time to the future to help fight. They invented time travel (never explained) and used it to recruit soldiers with no training to fight a war with weapons that don't do jack squat anyway. They didn't come with an idea of nipping the aliens in the bud before they get started??? Or simply to warn folks to start preparing? Maybe bring a dead alien back to start figuring out how to kill them? Nope. The basic concept of this movie is just brain dead and it's hard not to get incredibly frustrated with it.

The action scenes, while a little generic, are fun and frantic and provide the requisite entertainment value. But that's pretty skimpy for a 2 hour 20 minute movie. It felt longer. No action movie should feel too long...you should be breathless and excited, not vaguely bored.

Disappointing film.

I can't believe they spent 200 million to make such a bad movie. The writing is so stupid it gives me a headache. An unbelievable waste of time.

A grip in the toilet.

Here is totally relied on CGI and Pratt. The first looks good and the second disappoints across the board.
In the end, a film remains that is ridiculous in terms of content and cannot be saved even by the exaggerated CGI.

Overall a disappointing movie it was not terrible just never took advantage of it's potential and left me wondering if they just did a few things differently it would have been a better movie.

I only recommend watching this movie an a second screen while playing some games on the other. Don't worry, you won't miss anything.

The main problem I had with this movie is that it isn't consistent in how it treats its own world and that ruined the experience for me. If that is a deal breaker for you as well, don't touch this movie.

I am fine with the logical problems time travel stories pose and I was expecting a shallow action flick, which is certainly what I got. At the very least, characters in a movie need to react in consistence with themselves and their world though, for us to believe their emotions. I felt like this was not the case at all.

The enemies in this movie get initially presented as very powerful killers, almost impervious to small arms fire and therefore a single enemy poses a serious threat to an entire squad. Only moments later the number of enemies multiplies and while this should mean the end of the movie from a consistent POV, the rules just change. And not in a way that can be cognitively grasped. The threat level just changes, to make scenes work.

This dynamic gets WAY WORSE during the rest of the movie, when suddenly single shots from small arms fire outright kill the same enemies (the problem wasn't the aiming). It makes no sense at all and the movie just pushes forward throwing in stuff that either contradicts things that happened before or just never gets explained.

When you get to the end, a serious decision is made for how to tackle a mission that is so outright idiotic that you can only laugh, when the movie wants you to think that this is a well thought out decision that demands a lot of the protagonists. It's just stupid. Wasted acting potential on a horrible script.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is an insultingly dumb movie. Soldiers from the future arrive from their state of the art beauty salon to warn us about aliens attacking humanity in 2030.
Nope, that would make sense, instead soldiers from the future emerge from their beauty salon and demand we send people to their surprisingly pristine future to pointlessly die when they've already lost.
It does not occur to anyone at all to prepare to prepare to wipe out the creatures with the decade of warning they've just received. In fact no one question s anything, they all just march like lemmings to their death. It gets so much worse. It finally dawns on 2 people to do the painfully obvious thing of a pre-emptive strike in the present.
They use a child's knowledge of volcanoes to locate the aliens in Russia, at which point they tell president Putin and his elite special forces what they know. So they are able to wipe out the creature's as the should have done in the 1st place. Nope. That would make sense.
Instead the The thick heroes smuggle themselves into Russian airspace. (try doing that in real life)
They heroically kill the creature's creating a really stupid time paradox. The thing, Alien and The Terminator are 3 vastly superior movies they badly rip off. Watch those instead.

What makes it worse is that it has all the ingredients (A-list actor..top notch SPFX..obviously a BIG budget) to make it GREAT but is lacking the EASIEST and CHEAPEST BUT MOST IMPORTANT element of any movie: GOOD WRITING/STORYLINE/PLOT!

WHATEVER you wanna call it this movie has virtually NONE of it. I usually give sci-fi/fantasy and big pass when it comes to "checking your mind at the door" and the concept of "suspension of disbelief". INDEPENDENCE DAY comes to mind in that it never took itself too seriously (Randy Quaid played as "Cousin Eddie got abducted" helped a lot in that regard..Genius! BTW) so I could give a lot of latitude to it (hacking into an alien computer to download a virus? what? where they using Windows98 or something?)

This? Tomorrow War..Jeez what a trainwreck! All I can say is thank god I can cancel my Amazon account in 30 days..so I basically got to see this for free..but what a disappointment. Much like Wonder Woman 1984 was used to get people to sign up for HBOMax..this is the same hustle. That was a bad film..and so is this..If Hollywood stars are considered BANKABLE cuz they've done so many entertaining movies (I'm thinking of Harrison Ford or Eddie Murphy back in the 80s and 90s) that audiences basically say Oh, Chris Pratt is in this movie..he was in Guardians and Avengers and Jurassic Park..I bet this has to be good.

I consider this a BLACK MARK against you StarLord (you're better than this)

You get to see a lot of their tech in action, beautiful explosions, camaraderie, talk about courage and heroism and protecting your children. And, did you know, they have a science division for nerds? Girls are welcome too. Politics is useless, but when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Be your best self. You don't know what you have until you have to defend it, and so on.
Beside the tropes from the brochure, the movie doesn't have much to offer. The story is thin, there is no room for the nuances you would expect in a war movie, and it is about an hour too long. But the target audience, i.e. people who enlist, will probably like it.

The story development was good, even though some parts were rushed. But the story can hit hard emotionally in certain areas of the movie. The CGI and music were good, as well. I suppose I just couldn't get over the plot holes. People that are attention to detail and logically driven would have a hard time enjoying the movie. And the last thing I would say is that for certain people on this planet, the idea of an alien race coming and destroying half of the world is a wet dream: seek help! We need to stop making these types of movies, trying to condition the world for a global disaster. Expand

Interesting concept that is pretty poorly executed.

The illogical plot takes some bizarre routes that most sane people are going to struggle to buy. The two "twists" are both telegraphed so loud you'll spot them way before they happen.
