Alright, let's break it down.

You send conscripted, untrained civilians to the front lines of a war, mostly urban and with an unconventional enemy and expect them to save you?

You don't even develop a videogame you could sell to train BILLIONS of people at the same time so they could get the basics on how to fight that enemy?

And after decades, even with that time advantage to prepare during peacetime in the past and the whole world's resource at their disposal they haven't developed effective weapons to deal with their armored body?

Did the writers have any ideas how fast killing weapons can evolve? It's adapt or die. Anyone who studied war history or knows at least the basics knows this.

I'm not even military, yet I'm cringing how completely inept at suspending disbelief this script is.

At least other future alien wars movies had evolved their weapons to fight aliens and had at least half-useful training grounds. It was at least somewhat believable.

But this... It's an insult to people's intelligence.

And don't even mention the "capture" sequence... No tranq darts, no tazers, no nothing, just ropes... You'll shake your head so hard you'll get brain damage, and maybe then you'll enjoy the rest?

The critic reviews much more closely resemble the real ratings than the user score, which is baffling. So I'm gonna have to rebalance the user score a bit toward the saner side with a big fat ZERO.

It's more like a 3-4 if you completely disconnect your brain tho. If that's your thing, you'll have fun. Otherwise, HARD PASS, don't bother.

What makes it worse is that it has all the ingredients (A-list actor..top notch SPFX..obviously a BIG budget) to make it GREAT but is lacking the EASIEST and CHEAPEST BUT MOST IMPORTANT element of any movie: GOOD WRITING/STORYLINE/PLOT!

WHATEVER you wanna call it this movie has virtually NONE of it. I usually give sci-fi/fantasy and big pass when it comes to "checking your mind at the door" and the concept of "suspension of disbelief". INDEPENDENCE DAY comes to mind in that it never took itself too seriously (Randy Quaid played as "Cousin Eddie got abducted" helped a lot in that regard..Genius! BTW) so I could give a lot of latitude to it (hacking into an alien computer to download a virus? what? where they using Windows98 or something?)

This? Tomorrow War..Jeez what a trainwreck! All I can say is thank god I can cancel my Amazon account in 30 days..so I basically got to see this for free..but what a disappointment. Much like Wonder Woman 1984 was used to get people to sign up for HBOMax..this is the same hustle. That was a bad film..and so is this..If Hollywood stars are considered BANKABLE cuz they've done so many entertaining movies (I'm thinking of Harrison Ford or Eddie Murphy back in the 80s and 90s) that audiences basically say Oh, Chris Pratt is in this movie..he was in Guardians and Avengers and Jurassic Park..I bet this has to be good.

I consider this a BLACK MARK against you StarLord (you're better than this)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is an insultingly dumb movie. Soldiers from the future arrive from their state of the art beauty salon to warn us about aliens attacking humanity in 2030.
Nope, that would make sense, instead soldiers from the future emerge from their beauty salon and demand we send people to their surprisingly pristine future to pointlessly die when they've already lost.
It does not occur to anyone at all to prepare to prepare to wipe out the creatures with the decade of warning they've just received. In fact no one question s anything, they all just march like lemmings to their death. It gets so much worse. It finally dawns on 2 people to do the painfully obvious thing of a pre-emptive strike in the present.
They use a child's knowledge of volcanoes to locate the aliens in Russia, at which point they tell president Putin and his elite special forces what they know. So they are able to wipe out the creature's as the should have done in the 1st place. Nope. That would make sense.
Instead the The thick heroes smuggle themselves into Russian airspace. (try doing that in real life)
They heroically kill the creature's creating a really stupid time paradox. The thing, Alien and The Terminator are 3 vastly superior movies they badly rip off. Watch those instead.

I have never been as sickened/disappointed in a movie than I was with this...

I was going to mark this review with a spoiler tag, but you cannot spoil a plot that appears to have been created by a hyperactive four year old girl. Absolutely nothing in the movie makes any practical sense. Not a single moment of the entire movie will engage your attention, simply because your brain will be saying "an idiot in a hurry would have come up with a better plan than that".

If you want to experience a virtually-unbeatable 12-foot alien (with thousands of razor-sharp teeth, armoured skin, missile launchers for hands) get punched in the face and kicked off a cliff...

...then maybe you should make up a story with your 4-year-old daughter.

NOTE: There are obvious attempts happening to artificially improve the score of this title. I have come across 20 almost identical 10-rated reviews. DON'T BELIEVE THE RATING, this is a 0 to 1 score in reality!!! unwatchable

You must disconnect your brain to be able to enjoy this movie, which you can, there's plenty of action sequences to do that with half-decent CGI.

I understand logic isn't your best friend when trying to enjoy science fiction movies BUT things that we can relate to in our own time and the real world should be grounded in reality to make things reasonable. You want me to believe that a Director of Research on Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at GeorgiaTech, clearly one of the top minds in his field in the entire world goes to a school kid for geology answers!?!? You are just doing slapstick comedy at that point. Don't worry, there's non-stop ridiculous writing and acting in this from start to finish.

The film deserves 0/10, but I'll give it 2 points for Strahovski (as a fan of Chuck and Handmaid's Tale but her acting in this film is pretty bad) and Pratt (the director clearly wanted some of his Starlord performance, the best I can say is that Pratt isn't terrible for some parts of the film).

I had so much hope and anticipation that this movie was going to be at least "decent" given the solid marketing budget displayed. From the onset, the movie offers a promising narrative that by the 20-minute mark has caught fire and began a terminal free-fall towards the ground. I won't rehash what others have echoed as to the gaping plot-holes and the like; I will add though that Amazon missed an opportunity here. The director/producers it seems tried to meld together Frequency (2000) with the plotline of The Day After Tomorrow (2004) and a shade of Starship Troopers (1997) all the while detracting from what made those movies likable. If the plotholes had been somewhat addressed maybe...maybe the movie could have been better. It seems that the writers sat down and said how do we achieve every movie trope we can in one sitting. Beyond a few comedic quips by ancillary characters, the movie is devoid of relief from what is otherwise a predictable plotline. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This story makes no sense. They had 25 years to not only pass information from the future to the present, but develop better weapons against basically xenomorphs from aliens. And the second half of the movie was filled with cheap dialogue to explain why much easier solutions weren't used to justify the last 30 minutes of action. It was basically written by children to fool kids. And the writers knew it since they deliberately added the dialogue to explain why their convoluted story makes sense. Expand

In the end, a film remains that is ridiculous in terms of content and cannot be saved even by the exaggerated CGI.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm somewhat surprised that from all the reviews I've read, no one has mentioned the obvious time paradox that exist because of the ending. If anything was used from the future, whether that be tangible or information, to defeat the aliens in the past than the obvious conclusion has to be that the time line starts over again and the same process takes place exactly as it did before. If the aliens are defeated in the past, using anything from the future than the war never happens, the future people never come back to warn them, the serum is never developed and no one would remember anything that happened. By the speculated science of time travel, the only proper ending given the rest of the story would be, as soon as the aliens were defeated, using anything from the future to do so, the movie would start over with the story being exactly the same. The only way to defeat the aliens, again given the rest of the story is to develop weapons and defenses to combat the aliens and not deploy them until after the future folks come back to issue there warning. Or, they could develope the serum, but it wouldn't be able to be deployed until right after Chris Pratt jumps back to the past. This is the only way for the aliens to be defeated, using anything from the future, without resetting the entire timeline. Pratt's character even mentions this at the end of the film when he says, " She will never know about a future that never existed," therefore neither can that particular present. Expand

It's a poor remake of other, more successful movies: in fact it is a mishmash of a lot of other movies and include things such as "hero poses", "hero speech", implausible situations, etc. Not worth your time, it was a waste of mine. Nothing to save: actors are acting poorly, soundtrack and sound effects are unimpressive, visual effects are okay, action scenes are laughable, politically correct stereotypes play a key role in this production (including global warming). Switch off your mind and you may enjoy this production, anything else will leave you very disappointed.

I feel the need to add a few things to my review: in more than 30 years, the army and its contractors did not develop any new technology to destroy living things, no new bullets, nothing to target intelligently these creatures, no new firearms nothing, despite the fact that we literally have drones being operated from the other side of the planet now? In the present, it sends off untrained civilians with the equivalent of bb guns which have almost no effects on any of those creatures ? The suspension of disbelief has its limits and let's face it, this production is dumb. At least in the edge of tomorrow, the attack is sudden and nobody cares about time-space continuum, not even the aliens.

The plot of director Chris McKay's overlong saga of a man vs. alien war fought across time is riddled with more holes than a gun range target. Even the special effects, which should be the biggest asset in a production like this, leave much to be desired, frequently going on far too long and bringing new meaning to the term "silly." Had the movie more earnestly embraced the campiness factor on which it so often borders (a la "Starship Troopers" (1997)), this probably would have been a much better picture, not to mention a lot more fun. To its credit, the film's closing sequence helps to make up for much of what preceded it, but, by then, it's too little too late. And, as for the performances, all I can say is that cast members like Chris Pratt and J.K. Simmons really must have needed the money to become associated with a project as awful as this. Thankfully, the credits eventually do roll, but not until I've surrendered 2:20 of my life that I'll never get back. Expand

I only recommend watching this movie an a second screen while playing some games on the other. Don't worry, you won't miss anything.

The main problem I had with this movie is that it isn't consistent in how it treats its own world and that ruined the experience for me. If that is a deal breaker for you as well, don't touch this movie.

I am fine with the logical problems time travel stories pose and I was expecting a shallow action flick, which is certainly what I got. At the very least, characters in a movie need to react in consistence with themselves and their world though, for us to believe their emotions. I felt like this was not the case at all.

The enemies in this movie get initially presented as very powerful killers, almost impervious to small arms fire and therefore a single enemy poses a serious threat to an entire squad. Only moments later the number of enemies multiplies and while this should mean the end of the movie from a consistent POV, the rules just change. And not in a way that can be cognitively grasped. The threat level just changes, to make scenes work.

This dynamic gets WAY WORSE during the rest of the movie, when suddenly single shots from small arms fire outright kill the same enemies (the problem wasn't the aiming). It makes no sense at all and the movie just pushes forward throwing in stuff that either contradicts things that happened before or just never gets explained.

When you get to the end, a serious decision is made for how to tackle a mission that is so outright idiotic that you can only laugh, when the movie wants you to think that this is a well thought out decision that demands a lot of the protagonists. It's just stupid. Wasted acting potential on a horrible script.

You get to see a lot of their tech in action, beautiful explosions, camaraderie, talk about courage and heroism and protecting your children. And, did you know, they have a science division for nerds? Girls are welcome too. Politics is useless, but when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Be your best self. You don't know what you have until you have to defend it, and so on.
Beside the tropes from the brochure, the movie doesn't have much to offer. The story is thin, there is no room for the nuances you would expect in a war movie, and it is about an hour too long. But the target audience, i.e. people who enlist, will probably like it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Holy cow was this movie bad. I started of with low expectations but decided to give it a shot. The initial premise is interesting, so long as you don't think about it. Based on the cast I was maybe hoping it would be some schlocky and fun film, but the movie takes itself way too seriously for me to forgive all the things wrong with this movie.
Spoilers past this.
The monsters vary from being very stupid at times, and having some sort of genius hive mind the next. They are strong enough to flip an armored Humvee, but then a handful of soldiers with cables/ropes are enough to tie one down. (And that was supposed to be the significantly stronger "Queen") They go from running down horses and vehicles, to being outpaced by inexperienced and unfit draftees. The monsters constantly change based on what the plot needs them to be.
The story is a logical nightmare. The characters have no depth. Audio was all over the place. The funniest parts weren't the jokes in the dialogue, but more-so mishaps in the story or the effects. Its so bad that being terrible might be its best quality. I recommend this film only because it would be great for a movie night if you and some friends just want to rip on it for its 2+ hours runtime. No joke, in the C-4 scene you can see and hear a whistling bottle rocket go off, A+ for the pyrotechnics person who snuck that in there. WTF did I just watch....

Chris Pratt could not save this one one bit. Every scene is Michael Bay-ism loaded to the max. So much that you will have rolled your eyes to the back of your brain.

Avoid!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a gigantic abomination of foolish plot, bad screen writing, poor character development, lazy acting, uninspiring action scenes, and a thousand middle fingers to logic and physics.

I don't know where to start, below are just the tip of the iceberg:

1. Giving automatic weapons to a bunch of untrained frightened civilians then sending them to an unknown (to them) battlefield facing enemy that wiped out future professional military forces. What a brilliant idea! I am sure they know how to aim and shoot within days of training.
2. Releasing the safety on guns before the jump. Super! I am sure none of them will accidentally pull the trigger and shoot guys in the front since none of them are nervous or physically uncomfortable during the jump.
3. Falling from the sky into a swimming pool on top of a building will definitely save your life. At the beginning of the movie, Dan fell about 10-12 secs before reaching the pool, that's about 500-700 meters of free fall. They just fell about 500 -700 meters into a pool of water about 1-2 meters deep at the speed of around 90/s, no big deal!
4. Someone fell on top of him too, piece of cake!
5. And someone else fell on the ground instead of the pool, looks painful but certainly not dead, because they were still talking.
6. We finally see the monsters. These things shoot spikes from their tails and cannot fly, but they wiped out the human race who has tanks and fighter jets. Sure, why not? Human suck.
7. And these monsters run super slow, couldn't even catch up with the fat dude.
8. Where did those Humvees come from? Never mind, forget it.
9. Monsters like to stop and roar when they almost catch up with people.
10. In the future, ampoules in the bio labs are made with bullet-proof glasses because you never know when there will be a danger-close explosion around.
11. If you want Dan to stay in the helo, why bringing him along at the first place?
12. These monsters can be killed by .50 cal or get ran over by a Humvee but they wiped human from the earth, because human suck.
13. The queen understood that human found the effective toxin so she called for help, or she happened to wake up and called for help. Either way, good timing.
14. I understand you need to bring the toxin back to the past so you don't want to use it on the queen in present. But couldn't you just kill the queen with, you know, a grenade, or a bazooka, or a flamethrower, or .50 cal or whatever. For a lab to hold this very dangerous creature, you really don't have a contingency plan.
15. They kept saying these creatures are smart. If these monsters know how to use the time travel device, or at least destroy it to prevent Dan from jumping back, I will give this movie a 5-star.
16. Now I look back to all missions in the future: retrieving things/people from the lab, capturing the queen, making the toxin, sending it back to the past, -- none of these missions really need people from the past, or Dan. Couldn't the future people just do all these then travel back to the past to deliver the toxin?
17. That glass veil Dan was holding survived all the explosions, jump and fall.
18. Wife figured out what the entire future generation of scientists couldn't -- monsters didn't land in 2048, they were already here.
19. Red shirt dude has a claw of the FIRST monster ever killed. So the future human never killed a monster until they recruited some badass civilians from the past? Yep, future human suck and deserve extinction.
20. They analyzed the claw of the first monster ever kill and made a plot-twisting finding. I guess the future human never thought of analyzing the monster bodies.
21. If you have some volcano questions, go ask a school kid. Definitely not some college professors or scientist or researchers. I guess they were all drafted and died in the future.
22. The whole world united together and sent their military to the future to fight a war and save humanity. But they couldn't convince Russia to at least take a look at one of their own glaciers.
23. Even if that big-ass C130 can make it to Russia undetected, how did they land?
24. A few C-4 made such a huge explosion and flames indicating that those space-traveling aliens were still using fossil fuel.
25. Every second of the final fight.

There are so many more...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The plot and the visual realization of the film are a mixup of Alien, Independence Day, World War Z, Starship Troopers and any movie that tries to solve problems by traveling through time. The whole story is full of predictable plots and situations and characters that sacrifice themselves like heroes. In the end, it’s global warming that freed the alien space ship in the first place! So nothing really surprising here. The visual effects are rather poor, hard to imagine that this movie had been planed for a theatrical release. Paramount can be glad that they sold it to Amazon and this saved them an embarrassment at the box office. Expand

Overall a disappointing movie it was not terrible just never took advantage of it's potential and left me wondering if they just did a few things differently it would have been a better movie.

Also, what a generic 'Hollywood' title. What's even more generic is that Chris Pratt's character is a family man who's saving the world because he loves his wife and daughter. I honestly want to see a movie where the action hero hates his family and goes on the mission just to get away from them.

The story development was good, even though some parts were rushed. But the story can hit hard emotionally in certain areas of the movie. The CGI and music were good, as well. I suppose I just couldn't get over the plot holes. People that are attention to detail and logically driven would have a hard time enjoying the movie. And the last thing I would say is that for certain people on this planet, the idea of an alien race coming and destroying half of the world is a wet dream: seek help! We need to stop making these types of movies, trying to condition the world for a global disaster. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Im just gonna be frank. This is a total wannabe Edge of Tomorrow ripoff. Now Edge of Tomorrow did have a weird way of showing how the aliens got to earth though in t h i s particular movie, we're told that the aliens got to earth in a crashed spaceship. Now how exactly did that ufo crash, possibly the white spikes. Who drove that alien spacecraft, we don't get a clear answer and if it were the white spikes then that's even more of a reason to give it this review. The "scientist" mainly focus on one single normally unimportant time paradox which leads to the deaths of thousands of the randomness people to send into a war with aliens without a care for any other possible time paradox just like la la la la la. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's not bad for an action sci-fi movie... Just not realistic enough in terms of science, technology and scenarios are used. The decisions made by characters are sloppy. Scenes: Scientist Muri is doing all the research and coming up with a solution without a team of scientists and then put herself in danger when she's very important to saving the world. Their weapons are lame, despite being in the future... When today's weapons are advance. Security wise, why there's no army personnel while doing the experiment? Why put her to a loose chain? Why can't they install robotics to do the sedation?
Why didn't get to tell the weaknesses of the aliens somehow? Humans are curious creatures and likes researching... At least, the move could have shared a bit of their strengths and weaknesses. And the government's decision over funding their trip to Russia? They didn't want because the tax payers money is important and knew the world is ending anyway? What's another plane? And then asking a high school student about volcanoes when they can ask scientists who specializes in volcanoes etc. For better info.

Disgusting.

Literally the most pointless movie ever. Weak antagonist, infinity plot loopholes, and poor dialogue. Going back in time at the end of the movie renders everything that happened before that pointless. The logic makes no sense.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Tomorrow War? Wait for the Remake if You Value Your Time.

Amazon Prime’s Tomorrow War is worth the price of admission: nothing. This big mess of a movie has science fiction fans screaming for a do-over. A do-over with a new script. A do-over with different lead actors. A do-over with just about any other living breathing director. Keep the supporting cast, especially the child actors and the Academy Award winning actor J.K. Simmons, who plays the male lead’s (Chris Pratt) father. Yes, J.K. Simmons also has an entertaining full-time gig as the front man for Farmers Insurance. Simmons small part in this movie provides some of the only welcome relief points in this story. Of special note is his scene at the end of this disaster film. He delivers the best, and funniest lines, which hopefully will make it onto a Best Movie Line list someday.

Seeing the enemies in this made my extremely joyful... zergling/hyrdalisk offbreed(DUDE LETS GO) they are really cool looking!!! However, in terms of acting/settings/characters/writing... wow did this tank. Im thinking "chris pratt, alien life form, Jurassic park, avengers....." Havent ever seen an end of the the world movie thats in the form of a comedy. Yes there are comedy breaks in end of the world movies... but not movies about alien lifeforms that will rip you to shreds violently be written by the same dude of the step brothers.
Acting: Subpar
Setting: Great
Writing: They hired some hobo to write it
Cast: ok
Trying to make the people laugh while your running from an alien lifeform about to eat your heart out: too priceful....
Next time chris, tell the writers you know better than to say **** 70 times in a row as if you were trying to add humor, it just ruined the movie from there.
2/10, at best.

My review: I could fall asleep watching this, no matter how loud the explosions, how cool the enemies, the cast. Its really not worth your time
