What can you say about a film that deal so earnestly with the life of such a remarkable man yet teeters on the edge of terrible for most of its 105 minutes? It's a big ask to make a compelling film about a number theorist or any mathematician or scientist, especially when the script needs to conform to 'true events', but most previous attempts in the genre have been more successful than this lame melodrama which bores nerds and non-nerds equally, but for different reasons. Jeremy Irons is excellent but he usually is. Expand

This true story is worth telling, but the film is relentlessly bleak. He struggles to overcome racism, the scorn of other academics and separation from his wife, but some brightness would have added much-needed contrast. Patel does a commendable job in his most demanding role to date. Irons is also fine. It's just that the dismal suffering dominates the film and, despite some career success and ultimately respect, it's an endlessly dreary biography. Expand

The movie stars a fantastic cast with Dev Patel and Jeremy Irons and they shine brighter than the actual film. I thought the movie was still solid but the movie lacked heart and excitement that would of really pushed the movie to the nextThe movie stars a fantastic cast with Dev Patel and Jeremy Irons and they shine brighter than the actual film. I thought the movie was still solid but the movie lacked heart and excitement that would of really pushed the movie to the next level. Overall you will have a enjoyable time with the movie but the standouts are definitely the lead roles. Especially Dev who is phenomenal. Expand
