A frankly overrated film, The Little Mermaid is a very cliché Disney flick, even for its time. The main character is a sulky brat who never learns her lesson, and gets undeservingly rewarded for the trouble she causes. The plot tends to fall onto the trite side for kids' romances, but I suppose it's a film meant more so to be (mostly) lighthearted, fun, and singsongy. I didn't care for the original. The new one makes it more clear she learned her lesson and is pleasing to the eye. The eels in the original freak me out. Although I liked the singer for Sebastian better in this one.

Un clásico, de eso no hay duda, pero todo gracias a personajes como Úrsula y Sebastián, porque la sirenita es la princesa Disney mas pelotuda de todos los tiempos.

The original animated musical was bright and delightful. This live-action version is darker and less thrilling. The plot is the same: She wants to go on land to meet her true love, but will lose her mermaid powers. Halle Bailey plays theThe original animated musical was bright and delightful. This live-action version is darker and less thrilling. The plot is the same: She wants to go on land to meet her true love, but will lose her mermaid powers. Halle Bailey plays the title role and she has a lovely presence. As the prince, Jonah Hauer-King was rather bland. Melissa McCarthy did some nice work as Ursula, the villain, while the 3 sidekick creatures added mild fun (Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, Awkwafina). Director Rob Marshall doesn't show much of his previous skills at staging musical numbers. The ones here are OK, just never dazzling. Basically, that's the whole movie: Enjoyable but not exciting.… Expand
