This live action came to reunite the families, generations that saw the first version, today take their children / grandchildren to see the new version. Donald Glover and Beyoncé gave their lives by dubbing Simba and Nala. This movie is incredible.

Yes, it's way too similar to the animated movie but if the Mulan trailer told me anything is that, to please the biggest amount of people, you need to be extremely faithful, especially adaptations of beloved movies like Beauty and the Beast and... The Lion King. I thought they did an incredible job with the casting, Chiwetel Ejiofor did a different interpretation of Scar and I thought it was brilliant, the visuals are jaw-dropping and the technology used here is definitely a game-changer in this industry, It'll easily win an Oscar for its CGI. I thought they did a good job with the musical numbers, although I really didn't like how comitted they were to make a movie about talking and singing animals in a Hamlet play extremely realistic. It could use some ol' Disney magic, you know? But fine, for what they were trying to achieve, they did it succesfully. It didn't bother me how the animals were facially expressing, firstly because my memory is not short so I remember watching movies like Babe and The Jungle Book, which it's literally directed by the same guy and used the same idea in the animals' design. The voice actors did an amazing job in bringing these characters to life and they have enough personality to make them relatable. If this is possible to happen with ScarJo's role as an operating system in Her, it's definitely not hard to happen with realistic animals. Soundtrack and score are incredible, you can do no wrong with the original songs and bringing back Elton John to work on new ones was the right call, add that to Beyoncé, who's an amazing artist, and you have pure perfection. As for the writing, honestly, they did exactly what I was expecting which is revisit an iconic story in different format, every little change they made worked for me (Scar, Hyenas, Nala) and Timon and Pumbaa are show-stealers. If you take in consideration it's basically the same script and it doesn't bother you, then I believe you'll enjoy it. The story is fantastic and timeless, there's no way I can say the plot is weak or the dialogue is bad. Overall, I found it very satisfying, I'm planning to watch it again so I can have a more accurate opinion on it. In case you want to know if our taste is similar so you can trust my opinion, I'm gonna rank all Disney live-action remakes post-Alice.

1) The Lion King
2) Alice in Wonderland (I know it's not universally loved but I have a personal attachment to this movie and the book. I may find the script flawed but I'm still enchanted by it. I'm also personally a fan of Tim Burton and his aesthetic.)
3) The Jungle Book
4) Christopher Robin
5) Beauty and the Beast
6) Cinderella
7) Aladdin
8) Dumbo
9) Maleficent
10) Alice Through the Looking Glass (it's technically a sequel, but I think it belongs to this unofficial franchise.)

I haven't seen neither versions of Pete's Dragon yet but I don't think it has something to do with all these remakes being produced.

Wow wow wow! The music, CGI, humour, everything ... was amazing. Just needed slightly more bass in the music to hear those beautiful drums, but other than that, it was beautiful. Perfect mix of the classic lion king with a new take on it.

What a waist of time they took all love out of this movie not to mention some epic lines and scenes remakes are falling apart not to mention the actors voices didn’t sound close to the original which is what we all should stick to.

I felt little "lack of humane" expressions and Rest was on voice and actions, and I guess no one disappoints in that regard as far as Lion King is concerned. There may be a hand-full like me, for whom Lion King was the first ever movie-going experience, and frankly we cannot thank Disney enough to bring that back after 26 years. If cinematically put then, had someone been focusing a camera on me.
Apart from that it was a good experience with lot or color and emotion which came back after watching this again. Its must be watched in a theater because I guess then only you get the real essence of it. Its surely atleast one time watch.

There is no denying that 'The Lion King' (1994) is one of Disney's most treasured animated classics that still impacts audiences today. So, you may ask; why did Disney want to tell the same story again, with the exact same execution? JustThere is no denying that 'The Lion King' (1994) is one of Disney's most treasured animated classics that still impacts audiences today. So, you may ask; why did Disney want to tell the same story again, with the exact same execution? Just because they can. 'The Lion King' has visual wonder and sweeping state-of-the-art CGI, but nothing else new to add. It's disappointing mainly because this is all handled by a talented and trusted filmmaker with Jon Favreau (who also directed 'The Jungle Book' for Disney), so you'd think his charm and creative input would be suited for this particular remake. Instead, I find myself asking, can you even tell that this was from the same director as 'Elf' (2003), 'Iron Man' (2008) or even 'Chef' (2014)? These films were able to showcase Favreau's talents as a storyteller, but realistically, any other director could have made this movie and the results would be mostly the same. You know the story, you've seen the film, you more or less love the film, both as a child and as an adult. The problem that lies with this remake is, just like my issues with the 'Beauty and the Beast' (2017) remake, it is shot-for-shot, quote-for-quote exactly the same as the original, warranting the existence of these remakes, mostly pointless. The cast do a pretty good job capturing the original spirit of the iconic characters, particularly impressive are Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa, they bring their own comedic flair to these characters, and it works because it's the only thing that's different, but doesn't deviate from the original. At the end of the day, you can't accuse Jon Favreau for "disrespecting" the original movie because he made the exact same film. To most Disney fans, 'The Lion King' (1994) is as close to perfection as it could get, so you can't be mad at Favreau changing little-to-nothing. But to that, I ask, why tell the same story again in the exact same fashion? Only this time, things look more photorealistic. I understand the novelty that these live-action (I also understand this doesn't qualify as one) remakes is that it's like the animated originals, but it looks real. What you can achieve in animation, cannot be achieved exactly in animation. One of the common criticisms you may have heard is that the lions don't "emote" as much here as opposed to the original, but that's because the lions in the 1994 original had eyebrows drawn on them, not to mention that Zazu (voiced by John Oliver here) had big human eyes in the original. I admire Favreau for attempting something here, but I'd rather see him add his own trademarks to his films, whether they're original, or adaptations. 'The Lion King' doesn't showcase any directorial creativity, just cashing in on nostalgia. If you're going to remake a story, execute it in the most unique way you can, that's why 'Cinderella' (2015) and 'The Jungle Book' (2016) worked so well. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Thanks Universal. That atrocious Cats trailer automatically gave a bonus point to this movie.
And yes, little Simba is a precious boi...whatever that means. Oh,and Spoilers.

The Lion King 2019! Uhh…you can see it now. In theaters,IMAX and Dolby Cinema. There's really nothing noteworthy about it...Seriously.
Ok,but before we start getting mad about it,let's say a few positives, since it does have some.
The Effects make this movie basically look like a Tech Demo you'd see from E3,from the animals to the landscapes to the tiniest bit of details,to the point to where some of it is shot like a National Geographic documentary. This Art Department is to be blessed for the magic they crafted on screen. Of course you should see it in IMAX. Didn't you get it from the caption? It also shares a spot with Godzilla King Of The Monsters in terms of Artistic Achievements. You make monsters wrecking buildings feel as real as a Da Vinci painting, and NOW you make talking animals feel realistic as ****
Hans Zimmer's score may be the greatest part of this movie. He did understand that it's the remake of a movie he already scored,so he fully embraces the Broadway-style musical numbers and gives it his all with the orchestral compositions, which really were the one thing that kept me smiling (and give me some form of emotion) during the movie, especially with the fan favourite moments (I Was Just Trying To Be Brave Like You,The Stampede etc),which really kick into high gear when 'that' scene is playing. Seriously, there's a part (that we'll also talk about later) that has one of the more swelling moments in the Score. Some of the new content is worthwhile for a laugh or two,but still doesn't really make up for the 2hr Runtime, and the cast is fabulous. Throw in Jeremy Irons and it would've been perfect.
Although it's also one of the main problems.
While the actors portray any form of emotion on-screen,they do feel a bit uncanny, since the CG Animals never embrace any emotion in their faces. Even the Death of Mufasa. While touching (thanks,Zimmer),it kinda feels awkward, since, again,CG Animals with emotionless faces. Another thing that bugged me (don't take it with the other Disney remakes) is that...You know Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary for the Xbox 360,where you can switch between the first Xbox's graphics and the new 360 graphics while playing the game? Yeah? Well, cut the new parts of this new Lion King rendition, couple it with the Animated movie (in an eventual DVD) and you have a version of The Lion King where you can change between animated and live-action (?) with the push of a button. For those who don't get it,it's almost a shot-for-shot remake of the Animated one. No flair of its own,no real value of reason to exist (unlike the last Disney movie that we didn't need)...Just a good ole' safe Disney cash machine.
Ok,so...That swelling sequence. When Simba falls to the ground, sleeping (after a talk with Timon and Pumbaa),there's a droplet of hair (of his) flying away from him,and we follow it just fine (alongside the best musical part of the score),but it just goes on and on after a point. It's that long. Oh,and it makes up for a poop joke. HA HA movie.
I really hated how they began the 3rd Act. No offense to Beyonce's new song "Spirit" ,which sounds lovely and all,but enough with these badass sequences set to a hip song.
Also...Just STOP PUTTING JUMPSCARES IN FRANCHISE MOVIES. Especially when it's "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" playing. PLEASE. JUST STOP. And why is Mufasa portrayed as Superman everything he pops up on screen?
Look. This new version of The Lion King feels like a cash machine, but a disappointing one at that. Even if I say that it's good and/or great (as a 7/10) feels like a disappointment. It was supposed to be the end of a dark tunnel of 2019 Disney remakes, why is it just another fine Disney remake and not a really good one?!? I guess you could say because executives. Those who don't want to risk something really beloved and expand it to new horizons

First off, the “live action” aspects actually hinder the film rather than help it, as the emotion of the powerful scenes in the original is sucked dry with what looks like a voiceover of a nature documentary. The animals cannot express nearly the same level of emotion as animated characters due to the realism. In addition, the song sequences are far less dramatic and powerful because of the realism, turning amazing song sequences from the original into bland scenes consisting of characters running around or standing still (it’s criminal what they did to Be Prepared in particular). Finally, with regard to the realism, the scenes are far less vibrant and colorful, while the scale feels so much smaller than the original. Outside of the poorly thought out need for realism in the first place, the film might as well not credit its “screenwriters”, as about 80% of the films script is completely recycled from the original word-for-word. At least the other Disney live-action remakes changed at least half of the dialogue rather than literally just pull the script out from an archive and amend a few things. Finally, the voice acting is for the most part decent (with Billy Eichner and Seth Rogan as Timon and Pumba and the hyenas being standouts). However, some voice actors feel like they’re just trying to replicate what the prior voice actor did, making the film feel even less original. Once again, the realism makes the actors feel like they’re just narrating a documentary, leaving some performances (particularly Donald Glover as Simba) a bit lifeless.

In the end, this was a remake that never should have been made and feels like a painful cash-grab of a legendary film. As revolutionary as the visuals are, this should have been left as a tech demo. It is absolutely soulless and I really don’t recommend giving Disney your money for what is a far inferior version of a fantastic film.

This movie has breathtaking visuals. The story is AMAZING. Just because it is a remake some people are hating on it. I truly believe that this movie is 10/10 in my opinion.

I would advise everyone to go and relax, laugh and enjoy the movie as if it was never told before. I can sure this will win awards at upcoming shows - it was just that good (for the millionth time) Expand

It just doesn't compare to the original animated movie. They show mostly the same scenes as in the original animated movie, but remove a few lines here and there, because of that some relationships between the characters feel different (distant/more hatefull) and overall less funny. It has been made over the top serious and because of zero facial expressions and loss of some nuances in the lines and scenes the (correct) emotions just don't come over...

Note: Same with the musical parts, 50% are like ok but the rest are horribly executed. Both in the singing as the overal setting.

A horrible failed attempt over the original.

Si respetan la historia original se quejan de que es repetitiva y que no ofrece nada nuevo, si alteran la historia y a sus personajes sea bueno o malo igual se quejan. Para mi estuvo excelente digan lo que digan.

For me... A Remake/Reboot is Never negative, and i encourage more to be made~

Would a Game Remake be inherently bad? Would a Song Cover? Would a Redraw? Would a "Re-Animated" Project?

That's how i see the non-problem of these Disney Reboots/Remakes, People say that they feel no Soul in it, unlike the Original, but i see effort and pride in the work, Sure the figureheads and shareholders are Greedy muckers that only think of profit, BUT, It's not all of the mind of the crew involved in the project, and i know that.

I know hatin' on 'Reboots/Remakes is popular, but some people really like 'em! Movie was a 09/10 from me and my Family!!~ ✨
