Sure making fun of Kim Jong Un is funny, but that's literally the whole joke of this movie. Not my taste.

This movie wasn't afraid to touch on the topics of North Korea and beautifully work them into a narrative which never fails to deliver in the aspect of entertainment and humour.

The characters are really what push the movie here. Seth Rogan and James Franco are a funny duo that shine the most when they're on screen together, Diana Bang makes Sook a loveable character and Randall Park succeeded in adding character and life to a real life person who is said to lack both

This was an enjoying watch and the jokes always tended to deliver and were never overshadowed by the action that was going on or the plot. I like when films tend to break the modern "taboos" placed down by society and create a piece of art that's unique, true to the creators vision and memorable and the interview has become one of my favourite comedy movies for doing so

An opportunity to give a commanding speech - ala Chaplin in “The Great Dictator” - was served on a platter for Franco when he turns on Kim. That would’ve pushed the film into American film history. Alas they chose to go a different direction.

Comedically speaking, it's average, offering up some intermittent laughs here and there, but no genuine gut-busters. As a piece of political or journalistic commentary, it's scattershot at best, with most of its thematic content posing more questions than answers in the heads of the audience members. However, I can't say it wasn't worth at least one watch. The premise alone is worth the price of admission. And regardless of whether or not it ultimately excelled at delivering on that possibilities of that premise, I'm -- at the very least -- glad I finally got around to watching it. Expand

Comedies like this really don't appeal to me, and I don't ever remember seeing a Seth Rogen film I liked. I only watched it because I had to see just what sort of film could piss off the Kims more than Team America. Having seen it, I felt like taking "merciless" action against the filmmakers too. It isn't clever, thought-provoking or even funny (save the 45 second song at the beginning, which was pretty hilarious). It's simply vulgar, offensive and totally stupid. It seems to make no effort to try and create satire on any level, and instead makes plenty of room for Seth Rogen making jokes about buttholes, Seth Rogen being slapped about in "comedy" sex scenes and Seth Rogen wiggling his belly and his genitals at the viewer. Unless you're a 13 year old boy looking for something goofy and rude to watch at a sleepover with his pals, The Interview is impossible to recommend. Expand

When it involves politics, especially a controversial political figure, you are putting your reputation, and in this case, life (as well as many others) at risk. 'The Interview' finds Seth Rogen and James Franco in their most ambitious premise yet. Franco plays a hotshot entertainment host named Dave Skylark, whose show mostly revolves around interviewing big-name celebrities (we see Eminem making a cameo) as they reveal some of their hidden secrets (apparently, Eminem is gay!). Rogen plays Skylark's best friend and producer, Aaron Rapaport, who grows concerned for the show after hearing that it isn't intelligent enough television, especially when there are other bigger stories out there that are worth telling to the world, rather than a celebrity coming out of the closet. It's shocking news, but it shouldn't be classified as "news". One day, CIA Agent Lacey (Lizzy Caplan) meets up with Skylark and Rapaport to discuss some secret task. Dave is told he must interview North Korea's Kim-Jong Un (a very charismatic Randall Park), but he must also "take him out", in other words, kill the controversial figure, then everyone should be at peace. Both guys seem unsure about this, but at the same time, this would do well for their show, as they won't be interviewing big-name celebrities with shallow gossip. This is a political figure they will be dealing with, and it could be the most important interview for their show. This movie stirred up so much controversy as it led to the hacks of Sony Pictures, not to mention that several theaters pulled the movie from release, meaning that it can only be watched on VOD, or elsewhere on the internet. In other words, Sony took a big gamble funding this movie, and its writers and directors, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, were ballsy enough to even come up with this idea. Mixing propaganda and comedy is not unusual, look at what happened when the great Charlie Chaplin made 'The Great Dictator' (1940) which was a massive parody on Adolf Hitler, who was a huge threat at the time. More often than not, I give credit to Rogen and Goldberg for having the guts to come up with such a risky premise, possibly aware of how controversial it was going to be. Although, I can't imagine they saw the hacks coming, leading to such an extent. The film is very funny from time to time, Rogen and Franco, once again, share terrific chemistry as bromantic buddies. Randall Park is electrifying as Kim, and the film does stay on track for the most part. There are times where the film tries too hard to be the typical Seth Rogen style, pot smoking, penis joking, party hard and swearing at every minute comedy. But, if you've seen a few of his other films... this shouldn't surprise you. The jokes do get old after the first half-an-hour or so. Expand

In TheNo film in the history of cinema has had more press than the Interview. It almost started a war and made world headlines for almost a week, still it lost money, and is considered to be one of the biggest flops in recent history. In The Interview, the hottest duo in comedy, Seth Rogan and James Franco team up for their third feature film together. This time the pair play a TV talk show host and his producer respectively. Their show is like a combination of Maury and TMZ, and is considered by most in the media to be a joke. Wanting to change that image, the team decide to get in contact with the reclusive leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, for his first televised interview. Once announced, the duo is contacted by the CIA, who wishes to recruit them to take Un out. The first time I saw Rogan and Franco together was in Pineapple Express, and I thought it was one of the funniest films I'd ever seen. They have terrific chemistry and I expected great things from them in the future. It might have something to do with the fact that their characters are always so similar, but the more I've seen them together, the less impressed I've been. Seth Rogan is kind of annoying to begin with, especially that chuckle of his, but it's usual balanced out by Franco's extreme behavior. In the Interview, this dynamic didn't work, as Franco's character and portrayal was even more annoying than Rogan's. The cameos may have been impressive and so was all the attention this film received, but the truth is that many of the jokes were amateurish, and the film was a giant step back from Pineapple Express. When people work together, especially comedic duos, the films are supposed to keep getting funnier and more outrageous, but Rogan and Franco seem to be going the other way. The Interview isn't a great story and it isn't that funny, in fact, it's more frustrating than anything else. I love both Seth Rogan and James Franco, they've both given me hours of quality entertainment, but sadly enough, I can't add the Interview to that list, as it's bark was much worse than it's bite. The fact that a movie is made to enhance the freedom of expression is admirable and filmmakers’ bravery to make a movie about the most isolated country is to be praised. Although a heroic act is making the movie, it lacks typical elements of an award winning comedy. Geez North Korean these no need for violence, it's only a freaking movie. What do you expect from the writer (Seth Rogen) the man who writes dick jokes and other dirty humor in his movies?.

The story is about a celebrity talk show host, along with his hit producer, are ready to move on to more "hard-hitting" interviews when they score the chance of a lifetime when they are picked to interview the reclusive North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un. But just before they leave, the CIA approaches them in order to carry out an assassination - the two accept, finding themselves the least-qualified hitmen ever to take a job.

So when Sony got hacked and then cancelled showing the film because their just been treated by North Korean's, that right there pretty much shows how pathetic Sony and the government's of North Korean really is and how easy Sony give up so easily just because they got hate mail from a PSY look a like. When all this was going on... I wanted to see the movie more. I wanted to know what was all the fuss going on. And after seeing the film... it's was okay but nothing worth having a war over, I mean Geez WWIII over a Seth Rogen film.

What worked so well in The Interview is the film parody's on the news today. You know the pointless stories that we hear all the time like pointless and uninteresting stories like Miley Cyrus eating food or Brad Pitt taking his children to school, all that stories always say to myself "Really? that made news ARE YOU KIDDING ME!", this movie makes fun of that and I'm so happy that it did. Just like South Park that makes fun of movies, news and what's popular today, The Interview dose the same.

Seth Rogen and James Franco worked perfectly together in this movie as always. Every time I laugh at a dick joke in a Seth Rogen film it always feels like a guilty pleasure for me, because normally I don't normally laugh at those kind of jokes but Rogen always knows how to get to me. The first act of this film made me laugh me ass off, yeah it was tasteless and wrong but still pretty funny.

The second act is when it fell down hill for me. Luckily the third act picked it up for me and saved the film. Most of the film is Franco hanging around with Kim Jong-Un and that's fine but it was more funny with Seth Rogen then Kim.

Overall The Interview is a enjoyable Comedy and it's a film not to be taken seriously. It may not be the best comedy of the year but it's totally not the worse.

I thought that maybe it could be a movie that is perfect at what it wants to be... But no. What I got was a movie with jokes so low, that I can kind of understand why someone might be mad that he was shown in this movie, even though you can way overreact as we saw lately in the news. I think that this movie missed its target and became a abomination of comedy which is at such a low joke line that you ask yourself if it could get any worse.
To be honest the only good thing about this movie was James Francos performance as Dave Skylark and the chemistry between him and Seth Rogen, other than that it is a really bad and unfunny movie.

"The Interview" 10 Scale Rating: 4.0 (Bad) ...

The Good: Seth Rogen plays the straight man in this one and is actually quite good. His timing, one-liners, and body language are hilarious and his scenes comprise the bulk of the funny moments in the movie. The supporting cast wasn't bad either, as Randall Park and Diana Bang provided the remaining handful of chuckles. Randall Park (who played Kim Jong-un) was especially good. The story itself actually isn't a bad one and set up what should have been a solid comedy.

The Bad: James Franco almost single-handedly ruins the film as he wasn't even remotely funny. In fact, some scenes that had good build up dropped dramatically once he started talking. Overall, the movie itself just didn't have enough truly funny moments and it seemed to panic and default to over-the-top violence and raunchiness. I don't mind either of those in my comedies, but when a film so obviously resorts to it due to a lack of any real creativity, then it's a problem. The final 20 minutes or so are especially dreadful and drop the film from merely mediocre to bad.

So much so that thanks to the movie's plot about the assassination of Kim Jon-Un it almost looked like this film wasn't going to be released. Thankfully it was as this is often a hilarious comedy.

Yeah, it rarely elevates itself above the "frat boy" humor Rogen's movies have come to be known for, but with so many quotable lines and total dedication to the absurdity of the situation it's hard to not find any laughs. Still, if this isn't your type of humor you're better off looking elsewhere.

By far the biggest success the movie has is Franco's outrageously crazy performance. He brings his over-the-top character to life and is responsible for the majority of the laughs in the film. Rogen is basically just playing the same character he's been playing for years, but still acts as a great yin to Franco's yang.

Despite not being the full focus the satirical nature of the film (both political and towards the media) does help add a little intelligence among all the "dumb" humor. Several background jokes from other Rogen/Goldberg films make reappearances to let viewers know that this is still one of their films, such as the underlying tone homosexuality surrounding close male friendships, but the goofier tone and outrageous style make things feel remarkable different from their previous works.

A few brief moments of unexpected and shockingly graphic violence pop up from time to time and throw a wrench in things, but for the most part there is excellent comedic timing. It's vulgar, absurd, and laugh out loud funny. It won't do anything to change the minds of the Rogen/Franco detractors, but those of us with a taste for their work shall enjoy another rather crazy movie from them. One that is sure to bring many laughs.

It was absolutely a Franco/Rogan love letter to each other with Rogan flying a little bit higher, but not by much.

The only thing I'd really knock the movie for is the unnecessarily extreme gore that seems to suddenly spring up in the finale. It didn't add to the already weak comedy at all and just drew me away from the whole thing.

Worth watching if you're a diehard Franco/Rogan fan, easily skipped by anyone else.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The interview is a movie which I like to call the poor man's Pineapple Express. The movie is a stereotypical stoner movie with very stupid and easy to spot jokes and conclusions. Such as a character talks about their "stank" member and continues to talk about it even when shushed by his friend in front of a all business no jokes type of character. The movie does stir up a couple laughs from me but it is hard to recommend when some of the jokes just fall flat and are left there to let it sit in with you. The only surprise the movie gave was the fact that the protagonist Dave skylark did not get with the good looking cia agent. The only risk this movie takes is taking a shot at North Korea. Overall the movie is alright, if you are feeling "patriotic" and want to stick it to North Korea then go watch this movie. However it is a movie that can be forgotten and the movie would not have been remembered if it wasn't for the controversy. Expand

Totally in line with most Rogen/Franco films. Mostly hilarious, a few jokes fall flat, and some questionable material. Mostly hilarious, a few jokes fall flat, and some questionable material. But reading the ridiculous click-bait articles about this movie "It's racist" "It's sexist" "It makes light of North Korea" are just click-bait. This movie is about as offensive as the Wedding Crashers. It's bawdy humor folks, grow up, Seth Rogen make a sex joke? Color me shocked.

And to pretend like this is beyond the pale because it depicts an assassination, I'd refer the critics to literally any action movie from the 90s wherein almost every protagonist assassinates Saddam Hussein or Gaddafi.

The movie was fun, it was gross, and it had a bit of heart. Can't ask for much more in a comedy.

Walked out! Beyond belief bad!
Can be expected from the fat, talentless, very unfunny, hideous to look at, non-actor so-called "star" who is so far from John Belushi, John Candy or even Chris Farley that it really is NOT funny! But the co-star here is so incredibly repulsive and disgraceful as to have chosen a "career wrecker" of a film to do with his obnoxious fat slob buddy. What a lapse in sanity! I'll think twice before going to one of his movies again. The fat slob's movies I never see, but this time made the mistake in the name of freedom of speech.
The brass at Sony Pictures should certainly be immediately Fired for such ridiculously poor judgment. Yes with regard to the subject matter and political fallout, but even more so for the complete and utter lack of any redeeming quality whatsoever for this pitiful excuse for a movie.
It may have turned into an act of patriotism for theaters to show it and Americans to see it with Sony getting more free publicity than any modern movie in memory, but the bottom line is that it sucks so hard that all involved should never work in the industry again.
Ninety minutes being waterboarded would be time better spent.

The movie stars Seth Rogen and James Franco with support from Diana Bang, Lizzy Caplan and Randall Park. Co-directed by Mr. Rogen and Evan Goldberg and written by Dan Sterling, the movie, despite its hype and international notoriety, is simply stated, not a good film. No matter how risque or far out a plot or film may be, if it is funny it can be tolerated. This film is neither funny nor clever. It is amateurish, its humor is immature and insulting and some of its scenes contain tasteless conduct that is best characterized as just plain repulsive. More like a home movie made by people with money to pay for good sets, the film is awkward and not worth the $5.99 I paid for it on VOD. If one didn’t know better, it could be thought that the entire "threat" regarding the showing of the film was prompted by the producers in order to invite controversy and interest in an otherwise unworthy and poorly made film. I give it a reluctant one rating. The low quality of the movie "wreaks for itself". Expand

But, the movie actually isn't bad at all. I would've liked it to be more satirical with less erection jokes, but it made me laugh plenty of time. Of course, comedy team Rogen and Franco always go for the low blows, but considering this is an ongoing crisis, the film could've been made with more competence.

Other than that, it almost never failed to entertain me in some way, even if it got overly ridiculous towards the end (yes, obviously it was ridiculous to begin with, but the denouement could've been more pronounced and neat).

If you like this sort of thing, by all means get this for $6 on your laptop, or go to a theater near you that has the balls to show it. But if you think it was a stupid idea to make this movie in the first place, you may want to skip this one.

Honestly, if you weren't expecting a Stupid, goofy movie based on its stupid, goofy premise of two likeable journalists assasinating Kim Jong, then I don't know what to tell you, *face palm* Anyway once you've realized the stupidity of this film you realize that there are different levels of stupidity and once you do that that, you will realize that if there ever is such a thing as GOOD stupidity, this movie would be a perfect examples. Not all the jokes made me laugh out loud but a good amount did and the several LOTR references made me smile. I bought this movie for $15 because I already had a good idea on how the movie would work and the type of comedy it intends on using. If you have a stupidity tolerance SIGNIFICANTLY lower than mine I would recommend that you rent the film online for $5, it'll be worth the time. :) Expand

Good clean fun, but and if Kim Jong Un had kept his paws off of it, it likely would have had a short life. The laughs are underwhelming though not unfound.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Interview is exactly what you expect it to be, a Franco-Rogen comedy with little in substance or themes outside their recurring joke repertoire. Although the film restricts its use of crude teenage humour, the overall tone never really goes beyond an adolescent mind. Are James Franco and Seth Rogen funny? Yes. Did this film cross any lines in terms of political content? Not really.

The portrayal of Kim Jong-Un is not even close to how dehumanizing it could have been. The pop culture references throughout the film accent the premise of Franco as a talk show host who is up-to-date on current events, but the narrative had so much potential and fell very, very short.

The Interview is nothing special and the only reason for Korea's disgust towards it would be the dethroning of the fearless leader off his godly pedestal. This film is Team America: World Police meets Tropic Thunder and it delivers exactly what you expect it to. I had high hopes for The Interview despite its controversial topic given the success of Franco and Rogen's last film This Is The End, but it just failed to deliver the smart comedy it could have been.

I didn't really expect it to be good, but what I saw may have been one of the worst and unfunniest movies of all time. The jokes in this movie must have been written my immature 12 year olds. I gave it a two only because it wasn't visually terrible. The only movie I've ever shut off in the middle of it was that awful Adam Sandler Chuck and Larry movie. I really wanted to shut this one off. But I watched it all because of the hype. My penis could have wrote better jokes. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Way better than I expected... Funny moments, the plot was executed (no pun intended) in a different manner than what I assumed. This movie had the potential to be much better if the Quentin Tarantino style ending and the teenage sex jokes were limited or even better, abandoned. The story began with the main character reflecting on the direction of his career after running into an old school mate. This is the catalyst for arranging the interview. The "interviewer" should have been naive versus a "dumb blond", the "sexy comrade-ette" not so cliche and the plot should have focused on media manipulation aka "spin" and / or ""who's playing who" which was the best part of the interview. N. Korea is a serious problem, and one that we as a species should be working to resolve. This movie can only worsen the problem. We should all be ashamed.
