I felt the original was much better as far as story and acting are concerned. Norton seemed like he was bored the entire movie and very disconnected, just a terrible job as far as being a action movie star. Bana did a much better job as portraying a man that was wrestling with his inner demons, and this movie had no explanation as to why Norton was able to take that huge dose of gamma, like the 03 movie did. Watch the movie and then watch the Ang Lee version, yes the new movie is heavy on action unlike the first but the Lee version had much more substance and should be given some room to maneuver because it was setting up the origin of IMO, one of the greatest superheroes of all time. Skip this movie unless you like mindless action, if you want substance then watch the original, I wish they would have made a sequel instead of re-work the whole movie, especially since Bana actually looked like the comic book Bruce Banner, unlike Norton. Middlingly entertaining, often silly, mostly just half-assed. Norton is the only thing that elevates this picture (at least in the final cut) above its own mediocrity. Norton is the only thing that elevates this picture (at least in the final cut) above its own mediocrity. It's ironic, considering a lot of stuff he added seems to have been cut from the final edit. But of what remains, Norton is still the best out of anything, and often better when he's not saying anything at all. The dialogue is often goofy, the film feels truncated, and the action scenes are rough and jumpy. Effects work is patchy at best, better in "still" scenes, but clearly no better, probably worse, than ILM's work on Ang Lee's film. I don't know what William Hurt is doing in this movie -- Sam Elliott's Ross was much better suited in the previous 'Hulk' picture. Ditto for Jennifer Connelly. Mildly satisfying, but more meat is surely on the cutting room floor. Expand

A decent movie except for the "climatic" and cliche "final battle", which is the worst part of the whole movie and honestly brings it down. In "Iron Man", we see our hero fighting a bigger, silver colored, but more flawed version of himself. In the hulk we see our hero... uh... fighting a bigger, silver colored, but more flawed version of himself... Another thing seriously wrong is the "American Anime" parallels you see in this "climatic battle". Replace the hulk and that big guy you see in the preview with basically 80% of that cartoon crap that gets sent over here and there really isn't no difference. Except instead of a "hiyaaaa!" and "your powers are insignificant to mine!" while two people destroy part of a city fighting each other- you get "grunt!" and "grrrr!!!" and "you don't deserve your powers!" while two people... destroy part of a city fighting each other. And yes, when your big fight scene is 100% CG, its a cartoon. Also, check out the double-ending, the second of which they probably added two weeks before release. Overall a decent movie but Iron Man was better. Expand

I liked it about as much as I did the first Hulk film. Edward Norton was a great addition. However I ,for one, am tired of seeing Hulk movies because they are all the same and really offer no growth for the characters featured in the film.

A good cast, a mediocre plot, decent CGI, blend all of this together and you have what is for me the weakest instalment of the MCU. Bland storytelling that climaxes in a colourful hero clashing with a grey villain.

I kinda like The Incredible Hulk. Sure, some performances are bad and the choice of Edward Norton as Bruce Banner makes this film feel odd, but the script as plot are pretty solid, and I love the blink and you miss it tie ins. Like it really does a good job referencing Iron Man in a natural way that can be easily missed ( not including the end scene). Also, that scene with Tony, I argue, is more iconic and powerful than the one from Iron Man. To general audiences, that solidified that these two different movies take place in the same world on a great way that just clicks. I love the take on Bruce, a man on the run gives the stakes all the more weight. If he turns, he’ll be found. It just makes sense and balances out the Hulk’s power. Edward Norton is a bad Bruce though. He just doesn’t look the part at all, I much prefer Mark Ruffalo. Expand

Its really disappointing that where this film really shines is when the Hulk isn't in it. I personally believe Edward Norton was a decent Bruce Banner. He really was doing a good job and he portrays the character in a way where you sympathise with his inner anguish. All the scenes where Bruce is trying to control his anger and deal with his inner struggle the film is very good. Unfortunately when the Hulk is prominent in the film it really suffers. First of all the character design and visual effects are dreadful making each scene with him in it looks very fake and that really makes the film suffer. The most disappointing aspect of the film is the main villain the Abomination. His character design is absolutely terrible and the visual effects used to create him look laughably bad. The whole 3rd act is a clusterf**k of terrible visual effects and poorly choreographed fight scenes which makes it a sour viewing experience. Overall The Incredible Hulk is a disappointing experience filled with compelling scenes of inner struggle yet laughable visual effects and poor use of action. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. 2008's The Incredible Hulk feels like a more mature but lower quality adaptation of Beauty an the Beast.

The first half of the film feels more engaging than its latter half. We explore Bruce Banner as he struggles with his emotional management issues relating to the Hulk, and it feels like a film about self-exploration, and then we transition to what feels like a big narrative and tonal shift halfway through the film.

The latter half of the film then delves into generic superhero narrative territory, with Bruce Banner facing an antagonist that parallels him, and a big CGI-fest where Bruce gives in to his inner monster.

Despite this drawback it has a promising beginning - the opening favella set-piece is pure Bourne, and is engaging, tense, and action-packed. There are also some nice references to the 70s TV series throughout that I'm sure fans will appreciate. What The Incredible Hulk lacks almost entirely is emotion. None of the cast compare to those of Ang Lee's film - Edward Norton is not as grounded and complex as Eric Bana's Bruce Banner, Liv Tyler's Betty Ross isn't grounded in any way, nor is she a believable scientist, unlike the more understated Jennifer Connelly, and William Hurt simply isn't as cool as Sam Elliott. Regarding new cast members, Tim Roth isn't a particularly compelling villain, but Tim Blake Nelson is entertaining, but doesn't get enough screen-time. The film also suffers from the same drawback that blighted Captain America - it's forced to set up next 2012's super hero extravaganza The Avengers. What you get from The Incredible Hulk is a mildly entertaining diversion. It's not as complex, or interesting as Hulk, but it's far from incompetent. The action is handled well, if unimaginatively, and I'm still not convinced that effects are good enough to portray The Hulk as part of the real world. Let's just hope that's changed by next year. when the not-so-jolly green giant is portrayed by his third actor in his cinematic career. Good luck, Mr Ruffalo. Expand

I meanThe Incredible Hulk, not to be confused with the movie Hulk, is the first of the individual movies that introduces us to The Avengers, and that's the only reason why I decided to see it, as I never really cared much for the character. I mean think about it, this scientist whose trying to create a super soldier tries the solution on himself, and now when he gets angry he turns into a WWE Superstar! As for the film, it's not much better. I love Edward Norton, he's a big name and a star in his own right, but he's just about the last person I would choose to be the Hulk. His whole personality wasn't right for the part. I like his co-star, Liv Tyler too, and it wasn't that she was bad in this film, it's that her role was a joke and she had absolutely no chemistry with Norton. Tim Roth was the bright spot in the movie, as he's one of those guys who can adapt to any role and I think I'd have preferred to see him as the Hulk. As for the story, parts of it were decent, but they skipped the whole part of the story that I wanted to see! The film starts five years later, in Brazil, I wanted to see how the story started and what prompted banner into doing this. I hate superheroes and I hate their movies, but the Avengers stories have been different. With the exception of Thor, they have for the most part been somewhat realistic and believable. The story here is lame and the movie is based on special effects which did nothing to help the film. The last half hour of the movie, I felt as though I was watching Peter Griffin fight the Big Chicken and I honestly hated every minute of it! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Leterrier's Hulk is a tribute to the 1977 series (i.e. Banner purposely exposes himself to gamma radiation to improve his physiology). Ang Lee's Hulk was a gigantic, disproportionate and child-like monster. Leterrier's Hulk looked a muscular man and moved like a character in Streetfighter. I'm sure the video game moves (and the weak-ass thunderclap) fascinated some people but I wanted to see the more of the Hulk's psyche exposed including a better symbiosis with Banner and waaaay more destruction when fighting a powerhouse like the Abomination. So for me there is no any solo movie for Hulk! Even the performance of each character was super-bad, except for Mark Ruffalo, the only Hulk who I really loved, but Edward Norton as Bruce Banner is totally unconvincing and bad! In any case, Edward Norton wasn't the only one who acted badly for me, more than 90% of the characters were bad too!
The story isn't about Hulk as I saw, it was about the love story between Bruce and Betty!
The CGI was totally bad, messy and didn't comfort my eyes at all!
Hulk wasn't INCREDIBLE at all!

The story is poor and boring, with some sh*tty CGI and some good fights.. with all of that, The Incredible Hulk was born and it's calling itself a movie!!!
The opening credits is totally 70'. It showed some stuff about Hulk, but not enough, Iron Man showed us the begging of Iron man, Captain America too showed some good stuff as a begging, but The Incredible Hulk showed nothing but some sh*tty scenes with a greed screen above the scenes!!!!

Bruce is trying the whole movie to prevent showing Hulk, so The Incredible Hulk most of the time is showing the life of Bruce not Hulk, and when Hulk shows up, I just see a very bad CGI green idiot in front of me!!!!

And of course the romance was terrible.. The only thing that I liked in this movie is the last 30 min of the movie, and thought, I barley could watch it, cause it went up and then to he bottom again and then the final fight, and then.. go home, you mothe*******!

One of the worst movies of all time!!

My board exams had just gotten over so I thought this was the perfect time to bingewatch all the MCU movies so that I could catch up by the time Endgame came up. The very first movie I watched was Iron Man and it was so cool. So I had really high hopes with The Incredible Hulk. And it fell absolutely flat. There are many reasons why I hate this movie, so I'm gonna go one by one through all the reasons.

So first of all, since I was bingewatching all the movies of the greatest superhero movie franchise of all time, the only scenes that stood out for me were the absolutely fabulous ones. This is the reason why I'm easily able to judge which movies are memorable and which ones are not. This one had a very memorable starting, but afterwards nothing huge happens in it worth remembering. Stan Lee died because Hulk's blood fell in a bottle that he drank, some junkies in Brazil thrashed Bruce Banner and got beaten up by Hulk, Hulk ran from the police/army, Bruce was captured and tortured to make him angry, Hulk fought a creature which looked better than him but had the same powers. Yeah, that's all I remember from this movie.

Secondly, the quality this movie offered. I really liked Edward Norton. I have no problem with his role. In fact he looked more Bruce-almighty to me than Mark Ruffalo. But the CGI ruined everything. This is the reason why the movie felt like a drag to watch. Most of the time it was just talking, talking and even more talking. The volume was also very low so I couldn't even take any interest in the talking. There was even a sex scene where Bruce starts turning into Hulk so he gives up trying.

Thirdly the villain in the story was a lot more likeable than the hero, because of which I was absolutely certain in whom I should root for. And it was definitely not Hulk. The lizard dude was looking way better than Hulk. It's kinda sad that this is the only Hulk movie, but considering Hulk's enemies look better than him, there shouldn't be any more either. And lastly, the final result of this forgettable story. What did we get from this movie? It didn't progress the plot forward in any manner. It played very safe with the general superhero movie plot trend - Hero gets powers, tests them out, villain who has the same powers wants to take over the world, hero villain fight, hero wins, roll credits.

It seems weird thinking this movie is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Because this one looks absolutely nothing like the otherwise colourful, vibrant, story-rich movies. I really wish Marvel remakes this movie by editing the colour grading, CGI, sound etc. Because without that, sadly, you really HAVE to watch this movie if you want to see the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I liked Tim Roth's performance. I am a huge fan of Craig Armstrong, who did the score, and this one was not bad. I'm a huge fan of Danny the Dog, one of Louis Leterrier's movies (starred Jet Li). And of course I loved Robert Downey Jr's appearance as Tony Stark. And if you paid attention, the reference to Nick Fury in the opening credits was exciting. Here's the BAD: The movie was an embarrassment. How could I be suckered into this. All of my instincts told me that they were going to DUMB it down (to the same level as the Fantastic Four movies). And that's what they did. This movie is strictly for 5 year old kids. The action was so BORING. God, really I didn't care about anyone in this flick. Okay, so I wasted my money and 2 hours of my life. THAT is not such a big deal. But here's what DISTURBS me: We know Marvel has plans for an AVENGERS movie. AND they have plans for the CAPTAIN AMERICA movie. These are really important, and dare I say sacred properties... Are their plans to continue making lame kiddie flicks? or treat them with the respect they deserve? I love Captain America and I will have nightmares if the eff it up. I hope Jon Favreau directs both Captain America and the Avengers. He's proven himself with Iron Man. It would be a dream if Bryan Singer came back to do these but he's busy with the Superman movies. Well, at least we have this to look forward to: The greatest movie of all time is being released next month. Yes, that's Christopher Nolan's THE DARK KNIGHT. See you there. BTW, I loved Ang Lee's Hulk released 5 years ago. It would have been brilliant had he been hired for the sequel. I will have to pretend I didn't watch Hulk 2008. Expand

I don't get it. I thought this movie was terrible, and I thought Ang Lee's Hulk was great. Why does everyone think just the opposite? Besides not being as well directed or written, the CGI is far weaker.

Prior to this film, I had never gone into the theatre with lowered expectations for a film and walked out disappointed. This film was abominable. Any thinking or inquisitive person would only have one questioning thought throughout; 'how?' How does logic not touch upon the writer of this film. How do you go about making a film of paramount stupidity and not halt production to avoid the shame having your name in the credits of "The Incredible Hulk". I give this two points, one for each scene that works. This mindless dribble had my buddies and I laughing throughout. Skip it. Expand

I liked Edward Norton as Bruce Banner, but it takes like 30 minutes for him to start doing any kind of hulking. And when he's not hulking, which he mostly isn't, the movie is either uninteresting exposition or a romance between Bruce and Arwen from The Lord of the Rings, who by the way sounds like she's having breathing problems every time she talks. The special effects also aren't that great and I had a hard time caring about any of the characters in the end. There are some fun dialogue scenes, but they are seriously lacking and definitely aren't enough to make me care to watch this thing again. Expand

Nearly every aspect of this movie (story, plot, pacing, characters, CGI) is bad. Marvel chose Edward Norton to portray Bruce Banner but he failed to deliver. We now know that Mark Ruffalo was a candidate for the role back then, and later on he successfully replaced Norton in the Avengers movies. Despite some legal issues with Universal, it's no wonder Marvel haven't made another Hulk solo movie since, and all the actors never reprised their roles (except for William Hurt who recently returned to the MCU and his Thunderbolt character is very different in Civil War). I find it difficult to say how bad this film truly is. There is a really bad plot (hulk gets chased by American military, done), there is virtually no script as anyone hardly ever says anything, it's really dark, the hulk is a pussy, I find it difficult to say how bad this film truly is. Igual de sosa y aburrida que la de 2003. Hulk sin duda es el personaje de Marvel menos interesante de todos, la trama es super previsible y hay muy poca acción. Un desastre.

More of the same.

This film seems to me to be a sequel to the film made in 2003 around the same character. However, apart from the characters, I was unable to discern any obvious connection between the two films. It is, for me, quite clear that, to be a sequel, it was made by others than the original actors and crew. When this happens, in general, the feeling of unity and continuity ceases to exist. And so it was.

In this film, Bruce Banner is a man on a mission: while remaining hidden from the American authorities, he tries as much as he can to find a cure or remedy for the genetic mutation he has and that leads him to transform. Interestingly, he is in Brazil, with no explanation as to why he is living in a favela in Rio de Janeiro, where a foreigner draws attention like an elephant in a china shop. Perhaps the director, Louis Leterrier, does not have a clear understanding of what these areas are like and how Brazil works. But we will continue ... and we will watch several attempts by the American army to capture Banner, which almost always end up in the same way: a lot of things destroyed and Hulk giving a brutal beating to the G.I.´s. The ending turns out to be easy to predict from the middle of the film.

Edward Norton is an extraordinary actor but he never seemed cut out for me to play this character, and I think he will have realized that himself later. Despite his talent, he never goes beyond average. William Hurt also looked very bad, in a cardboard villain that never proves to be credible or more than a walking cliché. Tim Roth was a casting error starting with the fact that he was not even American, or was able to disguise his accent. Liv Tyler was cold and unable to maintain good chemistry with Norton.

Technically, the film has qualities. Taking advantage of the large budget available to him, he uses and abuses CGI, special effects and sound, action scenes loaded with broken things and beating. Like the first film, the strong feature of this film is the pure and hard action, without any consistent plot. The result of this is a forgettable film, weak enough to not even be an option when we just want to spend some idle time.

I don't care if this is a spoiler because you shouldn't ever watch this piling piece of crap. The only good part of the movie is the after credits scene because it introduces you to Hulk joining the Avengers. Don't watch this film. Please don't watch it.
