Call this film a guilty pleasure. Yes it is crass, yes it is overly violent, but if you are simply after a couple of hours of put-your-brain-in-neutral escapism you will have a great time. On the contrary. Don´t look for any artful visuals, blistering acting and cinema magic.

The humour is not really that bad either compared to other cash-in titles. Salma Hayek delivers with her foul mouth and rampant Latina personality. (I was married to a Latina once, trust me, Hayek nails it)

This week released in theaters was The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, which is the sequel to a movie that I won’t call anyone’s favorite. Of course it follows, The Hitman’s Bodyguard to which I gave a review on Facebook years ago that said: “…..6.9… While entertaining… Wait for tv…. Definitely don’t take children to it. Couldn’t be any more predictable of a movie. I will say it was funny and action filled though.” Let’s see how it’s sequel fared.

If you haven’t seen the first film, it’s not a must in order to watch this movie. But let’s refresh you on what this movie is about. the official synopsis from Lionsgate goes as follows: “The world’s most lethal odd couple – bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) and hitman Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson) – are back on another life-threatening mission. Still unlicensed and under scrutiny, Bryce is forced into action by Darius’s even more volatile wife, the infamous international con artist Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek). As Bryce is driven over the edge by his two most dangerous protectees, the trio get in over their heads in a global plot and soon find that they are all that stand between Europe and a vengeful and powerful madman.” To add to that a couple others join into the fight and they may even catch you off-guard, *giggles* get it… off guard. I digress.

First, this is simple. The review for the movie remains the same. The movie is funny at times and filled with action. Do not take children to this movie if you wish them to behave in the future. The movie has some very predictable moments, with one or two moments of surprise. It can be entertaining and annoying literally all in the same scene. This frenemy situation, here, gets deeper in this flick. Reynolds and Jackson are a pretty good pairing and reminds me of more annoying/slightly less funny version of Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson, even though I feel Reynolds got more annoying in this go around than last. Once you add Salma into the mix, then you get a nice, wildcard actress that at times can be as funny as she is attractive. Do they force some of her humor in the writing? Of course. Is some of it just repeat jokes that you saw coming from a mile away, or don’t fit the scene? Yes. Either way, she hits her lines and emotions hard and it can be very enjoyable. In fact, the cast as a whole hit’s their marks pretty well (see what I did there). From Morgan Freeman to Antonio Banderas, Tom Hopper to Frank Grillo, everyone hits their role pretty well, which just tells me the writing just wasn’t that good overall.

Nevertheless, the movie highlights an important topic in society that is kept taboo or unspoken unless you’re actively dealing with the situation, family infertility. Sonia, on her quest to become a “good mother”, which I think the movie solidifies would not be optimal, is on hold. For a movie that is heavy with violence and sarcastic humor, it takes a sincere dive into this topic even if it only scratches the surface. It’s an interesting mixture for this film that is definitely pegged as an action comedy but highlights a brutal topic for couples to talk about in daily life.

In the end, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard does exactly what its predecessor did. It entertains with some crass sarcastic humor, graphic action sequences, and somehow nurtures an important topic of conversation. The movie has hits and misses along the way but overall you’ll be entertained. This is absolutely a movie you can watch on tv on a boring Sunday afternoon but you won’t be mad at a matinee price and a bowl of popcorn to boot.… Expand

There's a lot of low brow crap around, but this movie lowers the bar to a new level. Truly a worthy candidate for Worst Movie of the Year.

this movie is dumb on so many levels, it's just absolutely amazing. The story makes no sense, the acting is like a big joke played over the top, it's cliché, it's big, unnecessary, loud, stupid and so much fun to watch.

Saw Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard tonight and it was really good. The action scenes were awesome and the writing was really funny. The performances from Salma Hayek, Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Frank Grillo was excellent, so entertaining.

I think that people need to see what this movie is for what it is, a over the top cheesy action movie that’s meant to entertain you. And I think it did a great job of that.

Just a bad effort all around. Five minutes in the comedy got real tired and desperate and I was thinking, "this is it?" Most films both establish the characters and develop the comedy in the beginning, but that lasted maybe 5 minutes andJust a bad effort all around. I fell asleep at some point and, when I woke up, had no interest in the story, characters or uninspired attempts at comedy. Really disappointed considering Ryan Reynolds is usually a winner. This will go down with Joe Somebody as the only films I have ever walked out on.… Expand

I liked the first film, but this one is so devoid of laughs or fun action. It’s also paced horribly; despite running only 99 minutes it feels like hours.

A sequel completely devoid of ideas or more engaging action.
I mean, the original is also an absolute mess, so it's not like I wasn't warned. Still the lack of effort is remarkable.

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, a sequel to the surprise hit that was its predecessor. The first movie had to be taken with a grain of salt, but the sequel has gone into Fast and Furious levels of ridiculousness. It is funny some of the time, but it feels disjointed from the seriousness of the first movie.

Kincaid and Bryce are existing besides each other. Despite their chemistry and rivalry in the first movie, Samuel L. Jackson seems to phone it in for this movie. Salma Hayek takes centre stage, and Bryce is the target of ridicule. The AAA bodyguard status, which i thought was a joke and not real in the first movie, is pulled out of proportion. The movie turns into a parody on the first movie. It is funny at times, though it is hard to be immersed like with the first movie. I give it a 6/10.… Expand

This movie is hilarious and has high quality comedy. Anybody who doesn’t understand the level of humor and the different layers should rewatch the movie until it clicks. This was a great movie.

I knew going in that this wasn't going to be a great movie. It's not bad, but it's not good. It's boring and lame. I left at the gelato about an hour in. Snooze-fest. If you stayed that long then you know what I'm talking about. Completely lame.

For anyone who has seen the 1st movie and enjoyed it, you are in for a treat. This movie was significantly more funny and enjoyable. Hard to believe that there are low review scores on here. I can't remember the last time I laughed so hard. Every time Ryan, Samuel, and Salma open their mouth it becomes a big laugh moment. The trio is just perfect and the performance of Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L Jackson, and Salma Hayek was so so soI can't remember the last time I laughed so hard. The story wasn't great as the first movie but it was hell funny and full of bloody action sequences. There was some crazy car chasing scenes and big explosions. The VFX and the Cinematography were excellent.

I like the addition of Morgan Freeman, Frank Grillo, my favorite, and Antonio Banderas. They all added more fun to this movie. I don't understand the hate for this movie. It was an interesting and entertaining movie from start to end. It's full of continuous action and jokes. I just loved it.… Expand

this movie was a fun watch, and i think that's what the director went for .i think we need more movies of this kind, no suffocating agendas that are out of place, just an enjoyable movie. this one was even more funny and enjoyable than the first.

As bad as the first, but this time with some bizarrely surrealist humour. Overall nothing much different, except Selma Hayek has a larger role. A bit "Wuahn Wuahn".
