Apparently Zac Efron finally got his act together and is willing to take small risks in roles that are different from what he's always been known for, and I support that.
Shedding the good boy image takes work, but this isn't the movie that will get him that.

Between the forced feel of its good intentions and the manipulation of its plot, Efron really can't navigate this story properly. It lacked a lot of punch.
He's on the right track, he just needs to be offered better scripts.

There are definitely funny moments although there are also, of course, very serious and thought provoking/insightful moments too. Its a good film at making you think about the consequences of war - it doesn't shy away from that but the basic story is so random, as I say, its pretty memorable and it features a good cast, including Russell Crowe, who plays a TV reporter/journalist and a short appearance from Bill Murray. I like that it features some information provided by text at the end of the film, shortly before the credits appear and also one or two real life photos. I'm surprised this hadn't been made into a film previously, if anything. Yes, I'd certainly recommend this film. Expand

In short, more brilliant, tangible and thought-provoking than it had any business creating out of the premise (though it is technically a true story, so they had some help)

The title of this movie is misleading, it's not a fun story about a guy and his friends on an adventure with wild antics. It may start out like that, but as it goes on it becomes so much more profound than that. The growth of Zack Effron's character (Chickie) is the most well earned and entirely sympathetic. The stance on the Vietnam War feels transparent and widely representing of various viewpoints but the movie itself does take it's own stance which might offput some audience members with strong unyielding patriotism. I feel that it doesn't attack this support of the controversial Vietnam War as other more heavy fisted movies might, with characters in that line of thinking (Namely Bill Murray's Colonel) being shown in a positive light. Hopefully this will be a great talking point to allow people from both sides to be able to understand the opinion of one other regarding war in general. However, if nothing else it is a truly beautiful and endearing movie that blends comedy and poignant heart wrenching moments without feeling jolting. Everything is transitions smoothly one moment into the next even while fitting a massive amount of story into just over 2 hours. One of the most well told stories I've ever seen put to pixels.

Not every real event in the history of humanity needs to be adapted to the big screen. 'The Greatest Beer Run Ever' ignores that and tells this dumb story about a guy risking everyone for a whim. Feels like a lesser "Forrest Gump."

Zac Efron seems wooden and unlikeable , but can't blame him for everything. He didn't have much to work with. A pretty bland premise fron the start, and then proceeds to try and whack you over the head with a moral epiphany. Not worth your time.

Omg such a great movie!

Loved it!

Fantastic balance of comedy to sincerity while retelling a stunning true-life account of the Vietnamese War. I feel very blessed to have went to an early screening to be able to say that I was surprised and completely enjoyed my cinematic experience despite going into it with no idea what I was in for, which ironically, is exactly what Chickie did when he chose to embark on this astounding journey in 1967.

I'd say this is a must-see!

The accents got kind of grating and annoying. One of the more bizarre tones I can remember when compared with the content on the screen. I liked it.

Excellent performances are given by the cast, but Zac Efron is always on camera. Bill Murray and Russell Crowe provide their support. What appears to be a lighthearted movie abruptly becomes a harsher account of how politicians may sway the populace. Expand

It’s a story about a young man without any direction in his life, and not very smart either lol. But on some mystical whim decides to deliver beers to his boys in Vietnam. It’s a story that has humor, as well as drama which honestly is hard to pull off but I thought they did a good job. Should definitely check it out. Expand

Thought it had some funny parts, nothing to bad about the film. True story and a damn good one at that. Zach Efron played the part pretty well. Wasn't great, wasn't bad.
