Although I've always had my reasons why The Godfather Part III wasn't on par with the first two masterpieces. This Coda doesn't really come to restore anything to the legacy of the trilogy, nor the legacy of the third film.
It's simply a project that provides closure for Coppola after 30 years for not having been able to execute the vision he had in mind. Coppola always insisted that that the true story of The Godfather concluded with Part II, and that Part III was always intended to be an epilogue called The Death of Michael Corleone.

He gets his way now but can't fix the major issues that afflict the original film, such as Michael weakness and his lame attempt at redemption, the lack of Tom Hagen, and Coppola's own neurosis and nepotism to keep only his own real sister and daughter close to the main character. Of course a reflection of his own personal life at that time.

The film suffered for it at the time, and continues to suffer because of it in this new cut and there's no way to repair that.
It is what it is.

But for me the trilogy is still exceptional. This new cut is just a curiosity. *And considering there's rumors about a fourth film, I should only say that Coppola should fight tooth and nail to avoid it.

It was definitely better than the original version - The Godfather Part III; but Coppola unfortunately can't re-edit out the flaws the original version had, but the film is worth watching.

It’s messy and you can tell Coppola’s heart wasn’t fully in it, but if you view it more as a follow-up to a duology instead of the third installment to a trilogy, there’s enough to make it work. That's the only reason I can think of for him to re-edit Godfather III. When it came out, the critics and some of the fans weren't kind. I have to admit I had conflicted feelings. The movie wasn't nearly as good as either of the first two installments, but I liked it.

The new version, which has a slight name change, is an improvement. It's still not as good as its predecessors, but
I think it stands on its own well. Al Pacino is still great as the head of the family. I love that line "I was once out and now they are pulling me back in" No one could deliver that line like him. A young Andy Garcia was sexy as Vincent, the bastard nephew. I'm surprised his career didn't take over. Diane Keaton looked beautiful, but seemed wasted. And Sofia Coppola, well, she's still not good. But I have to say I found her alluring. You have to remember she was filling in for Winona Ryder, who got sick during filming. I'm thinking why was Ryder cast in the first place? What makes this good besides the obvious, that it was well--paced. It was two and half hours long, but there weren't any dead moments. I think some scenes from the 1990 version were moved around and shortened. I think this version definitely puts a pretty bow on the Corleone Family saga. Hey Godfather Francis...I'm ready for Godfather 4.

Was and still is a meaningless cash grab. Part III doesn't exist to me and Coda doesn't add anything substantial to it.

Definitely not the best of the three (II, I, III; my ranking), but this version brought absolutely nothing new. I expected some serious changes, but nope, not really. If there were changes, I did not notice them. This was a cash grab. What, did his wine turn to vinegar? Expand

I never saw the original 1990 edit of "The Godfather Part III", but I thought this movie was fantastic. The color palette and the shot composition make it a visual work of art, and the story provides a worthy conclusion to this saga of movies. "The Godfather Coda" demonstrates that Coppola is, indeed, a master of his craft. I give it a B, next time you’re in the mood for a movie, this one won’t disappoint. Expand

The effort to improve the conclusion of the trilogy is appreciable, although it takes a good memory to notice the differences. What is most appreciated is that the effort to see this version is not a waste, but a good exercise.

The previous episodes are among the MASTERPIECE and the best movies ever made. Is that the case with the third installment? Not really for me. As great as the film is, it's not as masterful as the previous installments. While the story is again great and the soundtrack is masterful, as it always is with The Godfather, it just wasn't as interesting because not much happened except for the ending. The previous episodes appealed to me more. This was already a bit of an epilogue that just didn't have a chance for me to catch on to the previous episodes. The finale is worth it though, and the last 20 minutes of the film are an absolute delight to watch. A nice ending to the trilogy. It wasn't easy to conclude such a masterful trilogy, but it was quite successful. On the one hand, I'm not going to lie, I would have preferred it to end with a double feature. At least for me. As for this new version, I don't have much to add. In most respects it was identical. The beginning and the end. Perhaps the only thing I noticed was the changes there. I see the film in much the same way. Nothing that would change my opinion. Expand

Not going to lie, I think Coppola got it right the 1st time. I believe that the original edit is superior, but this new edit does still make for a great conclusion. The ending is probably the new edit that I don't agree with. Without spoiling it, I think the ending in the original was better. But overall, it's still the same movie, and a great one at that.
