Without breaking the two down shot for shot, Coppola's editing feels as if it accentuates ties to the earlier films. Yet there's only so much that can be done by rearranging pieces, and it's not the sort of significant makeover associated with celebrated "director's cuts," a la "Blade Runner" or "Brazil." it is a huge improvement from the original godfather part 3 makes it on par with the first two

I think Francis Ford Coppola was looking for redemption, like his anti hero Michael Corleone. That's the only reason I can think of for him to re-edit Godfather III. When it came out, the critics and some of the fans weren't kind. I have to admit I had conflicted feelings. The new version, which has a slight name change, is an improvement. It's still not as good as its predecessors, but
I think it stands on its own well. Al Pacino is still great as the head of the family. I love that line "I was once out and now they are pulling me back in" No one could deliver that line like him. A young Andy Garcia was sexy as Vincent, the bastard nephew. I'm surprised his career didn't take over. Diane Keaton looked beautiful, but seemed wasted. And Sofia Coppola, well, she's still not good. But I have to say I found her alluring. You have to remember she was filling in for Winona Ryder, who got sick during filming. I'm thinking why was Ryder cast in the first place? What makes this good besides the obvious, that it was well--paced. It was two and half hours long, but there weren't any dead moments. I think some scenes from the 1990 version were moved around and shortened. I think this version definitely puts a pretty bow on the Corleone Family saga. Hey Godfather Francis...I'm ready for Godfather 4.… Expand

This is a terrific reworking of The Godfather Part III. The story is more focused & effective than in the original cut. At the same time, Pacino is brilliant & the autumnal beauty of the cinematography & production design shines in this glorious restoration of picture & sound. Man, "The Godfather Coda" was beautiful. I never saw the original 1990 edit of "The Godfather Part III", but I thought this movie was fantastic. The color palette and the shot composition make it a visual work of art, and the story provides a worthy conclusion to this saga of movies. "TheMan, "The Godfather Coda" was beautiful. The effort to improve the conclusion of the trilogy is appreciable, although it takes a good memory to notice the differences. What is most appreciated is that the effort to see this version is not a waste, but a good exercise.

Not going to lie, I think Coppola got it right the 1st time. I believe that the original edit is superior, but this new edit does still make for a great conclusion. I'm one of the few people who actually enjoyed Godfather III. I loved the first two and yes, they are masterpieces, but this one nicely wraps up the whole story for me.
