I prefer the Gotham of Rises because it's a composite of NY, LA, and Pittsburgh, lending it the same lived in feel without the negative of feeling the locality of one place. TDK was just plain Chicago.

78 is actually very good, if not great. The Martian, Steve Jobs, Bridge of Spies, Sicario are all 81 so 78 is only 3 points behind those movies which are all great or fantastic movies IMO.

The opening sequence of The Dark Knight Rises with the plane and Dr Pavel is incredible. That whole sequence being our introduction to Bane gets me super excited every time I watch this. There's so many other great new characters here as well in Miranda Tate, Selina Kyle, and Officer Blake. All well acted and scripted and serve a purpose in the overall storyline. I would also argue that the final 5 minutes or so of this movie are some of the greatest sequences in any series of films. One comparison I think of immediately is how much I enjoyed Avengers: Endgame, but the end of The Dark Knight Rises hits me more emotionally than that one did. Bane was a great villain and the motives were a little muddy for a bit, but by the end everything gets wrapped up so nicely and this ends up being a great finish to an incredible trilogy… Expand

So when you say "when people really talk" you're pretty much just talking about some movie forum, they don't represent general audiences the way aggregates can.

Talia was a great addition. I’d unfortunately had her identity spoiled, so it did a bit of the sting out of Batman’s stabbing with the ‘slow blade’. Finishing her father’s work and getting close to Bruce, who as Deadgeek pointed out was well known to the League of Shadows. I’d pretty much thought Bane was the man in charge the whole time, and that he was the child who escaped the Pit. Good swerve. The overall plot was pretty involved, it was a long film to be fair, but I didn’t find it too much. The way Bane’s operation escalated with the stock market raid and its forcing Bruce to reach out to Talia and put her in the position of power I felt was pretty original given the usual plot in superhero and comic type films. The human core of the film wasn’t overwhelmed by the different plot points… Expand

probably the most interesting entry in regards to its character work and not just in comparison to the other films in the trilogy, but also to every prior Batman film that has come before it (and after). a broken Bruce Wayne becomes a ghostprobably the most interesting entry in regards to its character work and not just in comparison to the other films in the trilogy, but also to every prior Batman film that has come before it (and after). a broken Bruce Wayne becomes a ghost in in his own home only to eventually return to life for one last act of heroism that initially seems to be a suicidal one. the soul is gone it seems, the desire to live is over for himself and now it is simply his body that remains and this will be his last act. but, of course the rest of the film is him rising to find that desire to live again, live as Bruce Wayne again and escape from the symbol the city doesn't need anymore, at least not with him as its literal figurehead. the ending signifies that destruction of Batman once and for all, at least for him, and now he can move on. the Pit sequence as well feels like the whole film in microcosm and it's shot beautifully too and in an almost abstract way. the light of the sky above looks more heavenly than it does Earthly. an image of hope out of grasp until you let go and ascend. this is also where the parallels between him, Bane and Miranda begin. they are essentially shadows of each other. two born and sculpted in darkness only to rise above it but keep it within them and destroy the world around them. the other a man who as Bane says "adopted the darkness" but chooses to use that pain to help the people around him. Bruce and Miranda both set out to continue their fathers legacies as well, it's just that those two legacies are diametrically opposed it seems. and so amongst the grand spectacle - all of which **** rules btw - there's a lot of very effective character and thematic work going on here. and that ending makes me tear up every time… Expand

For the most part, The Dark Knight Rises was up to the task. Easily the largest scaled of Nolan’s Batman films, it features an aging, spiritually lost Batman who must overcome his mistakes to take on Bane, portrayed with staggering bombast by Tom Hardy.

The film also manages to break new ground, giving us the first real cinematic version of a happy ending for Bruce Wayne’s story. It’s a more than worthy finale to Nolan’s trilogy, ensuring it would be the standard by which all other superheroes are measured.… Expand

This is the best movie of the trilogy. It ties everything together in an awesome and cohesive way. A worse director would have fumbled with the twist villain thing, but I thought Nolan handled it spectacularly.

Amazingly this ended up proving quite prophetic with regards to its villainous plot to effectively drain the swamp of Gotham's financial elite. This is, if anything, a more brutish and muscular film compared to the previous two installments, and while subtlety is maybe a little absent, it's hard not to be impressed by the sheer bravado and scale of the whole film.

It builds and builds to a truly stunning conclusion, a nerve shedding apocalyptic battle for survival with the ultimate ticking time bomb scenario and one of the most spectacular chase sequences ever put to film. The entire cast is sensational; Hardy makes for a truly frightening Bane, while Bale finds genuine humanity in his final appearance as Bruce Wayne. Best of all is its epic portrayal of Gotham City, which is as magnificent as it has ever been captured on the silver screen… Expand

Simultaneously introducing us to Gotham's latest big bad, by the name of Bane (Tom Hardy), and setting in motion plans that would eventually lead to the film's climactic conclusion, the masked villain and his henchmen outsmart a bunch of CIA agents on an aircraft. This then leads to a stunning sequence involving the plane being literally pulled out of the air by a larger craft, before the merciless former League of Shadows member kidnaps nuclear physicist Dr. Leonid Pavel and leaves no survivors as the vehicle plummets to the ground.

Nolan knew he had to deliver the jaw-dropping goods in the opening stages of this insanely anticipated follow-up, and, unlike the folks in the aforementioned falling plane, he undoubtedly stuck the landing… Expand

Some may disagree, but I think the introduction to Bane is even better than the Joker’s intro! What a stroke of genius to have a villain the complete opposite of the Joker, a cold, calculating and hulking figure who is actually a match for Batman! This whole scene is exhilaratingly filmed. The gorgeous scenery and insane special effects make it all the more intense to watch. There’s also some fantastic music here as well which elevates everything. You also can’t help but admire the stunt work here and the way Nolan directs is just flawless as he gets right in on the action with no shaky cam or manic quick cuts! This just goes to show how powerful Bane is and how he always has the upper hand. I also absolutely love his voice. You’d expect him to have the voice of a bull frog, but instead it’s like Shaun Connery on acid. Tom Hardy did almost the impossible, and made us forget about Heath Ledger’s electrifying performance. Whilst Bane still doesn’t reach those heights, he’s still a bloody excellent villain in his own rights. Christopher Nolan himself announced the other day that this was his favourite scene from his entire career… Expand

Although i suppose its good that they didn’t risk ruining the extremely high note they ended it on.

The plot twists throughout the movie were amazing even when I knew they were coming, the small subtle hints throughout were amazing, and the last 10-20 minutes where they wrapped it all up and setup a possible sequel were just perfect.

I love Tom Hardy, and as usual he did a geeat job. Bane was such an interesting villian and the plot twist at the end made it even better. Anne Hathaway was fantastic as Catwoman. Finally, I’m a big Cillian Murphy fan so this trilogy gets bonus points for having him in every movie even if they were limited roles… Expand

Some might be shocked that I think this is better than “The Dark Knight,” but I truly believe that this is the superior film. First off, I think Tom Hardy as Bane was just as good as Heath Ledger’s Joker, the story was far better, and it was here that Christian Bale was cemented as the best Batman ever put on screen. The scale of the film was something of truly epic proportions as this film really felt like the end of a story. The stakes were raised to 11 here as well to the point that the film had you believe that Batman might actually perish in his own film. Anne Hathaway was great as Catwoman, even better than Michelle Pfeiffer from “Batman Returns” in my opinion, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ben Mendelsohn, and Marion Cotillard were all welcome additions to an already great cast. If I had to pick one, I’d lean towards the beautiful war in the snow in which the stakes are made clear and hope triumphs over despair. Don’t get me wrong however, the scene in which Bane breaks the Bat far surpasses any movie fight I’ve seen, but as I said I would I choose one. Their first encounter is drawn out and brutal as Bane inflicts as much pain and damage on Batman as he can before literally breaking him (physically and mentally). When Batman conquers over Bane in the end, Batman doesn’t have that time. It’s a battle of efficiency and realism. Batman has faced this monster of a man before, he’s gone through a journey since and it’s the result of this fight that decides the fate of Gotham. It’s the greatest fight in all of film… Expand

i enjoy every seconds of this movie, not even feel a bit boring. every single performance the casts did are all outstanding, frankly said cillian murphy as jonathan crane short screentime has a big impact to this movie, if not for you idc but for me it is, christian bale as batman done amazing also it's more fascinating that we have cat woman on his side, they're make a good partner and complete each other. anne hathaway role is fantastic she ate it up and left no crumbs, along with others decent performances

The movie is full of iconic moments from me and a great way to end the trilogy one of the best payoffs that the character could get. Let me explain, the sheer scale of TDKR is unlike anything. Not just the streets of Chicago but entire city blocks shut down for the film. Every scene you see is 99% practical countless real vehicles driving through Chicago again not CGi.
The bat wing was practical !?! Using wires and only on the low street flying scenes but still since when do you see that anymore ?? The sheer amount of extras in the finale big fight scene is on a scale unlike no other. Having both the cops and the prisoners charge at one another was French kiss As from a story standpoint I think it wraps up the trilogy beautifully. Tying all the way back to the begging and perhaps what the entire trilogy is built on.
Rising from pain and injustice.

I’m Batman begins Bruce Wayne falls into the well and has to learn to rise out of it.
He then has to learn to rise above his fear and injustice and become the caped crusader.

In The Dark Knight, we see Bruce have his ideals tested to the max with the best of the best falling in Harvey Dent. And joker no matter what causing anarchy and turning good people bad.
Bruce has to learn to Rise above these individuals and keep true to his morals.

And hear in the dark Knight Rises we see a Bruce hit Rock bottom with bane breaking his body and his spirit, and taking Gotham and turning it into everything Bruce swore to stop.

And so Nolan Perfectly both narratively and visually tells the story of not only Bruce rising but also Gotham.
Bruce climbs the well letting go of his fear while simultaneously cutting to Gotham as they prepare and try to fight back.

At its core the Dark Knight trilogy is about being greater then what we suffer. And turning our pain into strength. We may never get another superhero trilogy as great as Nolan’s Batman. But perhaps Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy is enough… Expand

As for my thoughts on the film, despite some things in the middle I think could have been better (agree with whoever said that the whole Gotham struggle could have been shown better, it was essentially just fast-forwarded to Batman's return,As for my thoughts on the film, despite some things in the middle I think could have been better (agree with whoever said that the whole Gotham struggle could have been shown better, it was essentially just fast-forwarded to Batman's return, rather than seeing the actual plight of the city aside from the first few moments of rioting and chaos that Bruce had to see) I actually probably thought this was the collectively strongest film in the trilogy, or at least closer to Begins. DK is a great film but aside from Joker's chaos and the slow burning progression of Harvey Dent I don't find much else in the film to be too great, here I thought all the cast were sublime and the likes of Bale, Caine, Oldman and Freeman who were regulars turned in arguably their best performances, and between Hardy, Hathaway and Levitt I thought the supporting cast were collectively stronger in their performances even if Ledger's individual performance likely remains the best in the trilogy. I loved the messages and symbols the film tackled: the message about Gotham being a city not worth saving that was present in Begins and DK was again explored with the citizens acting exactly how Bane believed them to do, Levitt's ideals of moral justice slowly becoming incompatible with the procedures and orders he'd have to follow under a Police Badge were excellent in exentuating his dis-satisfaction with the job and making the ending seem a logical conclusion, Alfred's desperation in trying to convince Bruce he had become too involved with the Batman persona to the point where he would never be happy in his life was a smart and hearbreaking look at the character and his constant source of misery and despite the whole saga of Bruce recovering in the prison (I do think they should have focused more on his physical battle as well as more shots of him being subjected to images of Gotham's decay) being a little iffy to believe as well as some of his antics involving the lighting of the Bat signal I thought as a sum of its parts this was probably the most complete in the series, in terms of story, acting and characters.

The Talia reveal was a nice surprise given I'd forgotten about her playing Talia, but it was clear it was a twist for the sake of a twist at the end. I mean logically speaking when Bane breaks Batman and takes control of Gotham there's little stopping Talia from revealing herself, rather than staying captive. I suppose you could argue it was a contingency plan should Batman return and be so focused on stopping Bane he'd be blind to suspect Talia's deception, but I do think as good as that explanation could be it was little more than a surprise twist for the sake of a surprise twist. Bane's death was well done to me, he went out like a badass having been given a death that no-one could survive, and one that caught him completely off guard rather than a swift and decisive killing by Batman. And it further explored the Catwoman/Batman dynamic with her not possessing Batman's moral stance on not killing… Expand

We immediately are hooked to the story that continues unraveling through the next parts of the movie. We get to see yet another deep and dark interpretation of Bruce Wayne/The Batman. Once again, Christopher Nolan flawlessly executes the complexity of the character and gives us so much more than just that. We see Wayne using his fears, his pain, his suffering to overcome those very things and rise above. We see our beloved Alfred giving his all to what can only be described as his father-son relationship with Bruce. We see new characters appear for the first time, such as the talented burglar, Catwoman, who also gets a very deep character and personality behind the mask. We get to see a mere cop, who gives his city his all, and risks his very life for the great good, representing a symbol of pure goodness. Not a single moment throughout this movie that makes you feel bored or not entertained. It’s filled with amazing CGI; next level story-telling; suspense to keep you at your toes; character development that makes you connect to them in a way you never have before. You can literally feel the pain Bruce is going through, you can literally feel his journey to overcoming it. The Dark Knight Rises is everything I thought The Dark Knight was going to be. This movie was most perfect way to end this trilogy, as it mixed Begins and Dark Knight into one masterpiece.

Though the suicide of Ledger was, and still isThe Dark Knight Rises is everything I thought The Dark Knight was going to be. This movie was most perfect way to end this trilogy, as it mixed Begins and Dark Knight into one masterpiece.

Though the suicide of Ledger was, and still is heartbreaking, Nolan continues his great legacy of this franchise by recreating his character into a much more realistic one. Bane is a perfect character. He is realistic, he is brut tough, and unlike the Joker, he rigged the city realistically, placing his dirty fingers all over the town. His plans fit perfectly into the plot, his background was explained tremendously well, and his execution of his plan, until falling to Catwoman, was phenomenal and well thought out. Before watching this film, I stated the casting of Ledger was a luck of the draw by the movie crew, yet Nolan kicked me right in the teeth and redid his character built off unreal dialogue, proving me absolutely wrong.

This is the best batman we've ever gotten, and even though he stupidity threw himself at Bane to set up the most significant aspect of the movie (Bane knocking down Batman for weeks and taking over the city), it's just how it had to happen, and I'll happily excuse it. Bruce rose up with brut force, escaped the prison, and with the upmost passion defeated Bane (with the help of catwoman), and unselfishly almost killed in the effort of saving his city he was told over and over not to. The plot regarding Bruce this movie was a great refresher from the horrible 'The Dark Knight' plot, and it brought us back to Begins, which in underrated fashion stablized this all-time great trilogy.

Catwoman was everything Batman ever needed, and her character developmental over this movie was something we've never seen before from a writing aspect. Her presence uplifted this movie, and her boss girl ending was an amazing ending to her character, and the movie. Outside of being hot as **** Catwoman was truly a phenomenal character.

I understand why people hate on this movie more than they should, and it's because there's more dialogue in it than Dark Knight. On top of that, the Joker isn't in this movie. These two predicaments combined created a very large uphill battle for the crew of this movie to climb, yet they did, and they had the perfect mix of dialogue and action, along with recreating the Joker perfectly, into a more realistic character. I truly do love Ledger, and I do miss The Joker, yet this was all you could ask for outside of him.

What's stopping this movie from being a 5/5 is the normal plot inconsistencies of any superhero/action movie, and unfortunately I have to stay to my ranking system. There is nothing truly bad about this movie (besides maybe Bane turning off the sun), and nothing could've made it better than it was overall. This movie is everything the consensus believes The Dark Knight is, yet the Dark Knight is just a high budget action movie filled with ****ty writing, while The Dark Knight Rises is the perfect blend of high budget action movie, and a low budget writing masterpiece.… Expand

As for Bruce Wayne in this movie, he has to reborn as Batman, and Christian Bale did that very well. I’ve always thought it was really cool to see a hero being reborn, and this is probably my favorite example of that! The whole plot to this movie was thought through the amazing mind of Christopher Nolan, (Yes, I am fanboying.) Nolan really thought of amazing things for this movie. The story was fantastically written, and so was the entire trilogy! I don’t have any negatives for this movie. The two hour and forty minute length was needed, and I don’t think there was anything that should have been trimmed out. For my final thoughts, this is my second favorite out of the Dark Knight trilogy, and one of my favorite superhero movies… Expand

Also speaking about action and emotion, Batman’s first appearance in the film is simply poetic, giving you goose bumps thanks to superb soundtrack by music genius Hans Zimmer, who’s back on Nolan’s team to work his magic and creating an iconic score for every Bane scene.

The Dark Knight Rises lasts for almost 3 hours and for the first time in many years, it feels like the length was perfect to close Nolan’s trilogy. The first forty five minutes has a lot of information to digest in order to take you on an emotional journey packed with action which makes this film an instant hit. It is a total masterpiece to us, possibly the best film of the year (so far), even making the impossible possible by defeating The Avengers in a very close competition (even though we don’t like to compare different superhero films)

The Dark Knight Rises is a must watch, especially if you have the chance see it in Imax as it’s a spectacular cinematic monster, worth every cent to see it again and again and again… Expand

sends chills down your spine but you can't help but love him at the same time. Bane as a character is calculated, like Joker Bane is a real threat to the city, maybe even more so of a threat. You never know what he's thinking, he's unpredictable and is ruthless when he's allowed to go full out. The character growth for everyone moves smoothly to this film all the way back to the first. Everyone feels familiar and "reset" as some trilogies do. Even the new characters feel familiar. Especially Anne Hathaway's Cat Woman
and Tom Hardy's Bane Hans Zimmer does another amazing job with the score. It's swelling and menacing, just what this movie, calls for. This movie, whole trilogy in fact, is so good that

Once again, just when I thought the movie was threatened, it exceeded all of my expectations once again, in terms of action, entertainment, edition, sound, score, visuals, direction and action, everything is top notch!
The film brings some ofOnce again, just when I thought the movie was threatened, it exceeded all of my expectations once again, in terms of action, entertainment, edition, sound, score, visuals, direction and action, everything is top notch!
The film brings some of the names that already kept this story at a good level but it also brings some new that also fitted perfectly in it. Christian Bale, doesn’t let’s to be the great Batman he was before. Michael Cain is fantastic as always and he gives a powerful an emotional performance. Tom Hardy was one of the addictions and he does Bane utterly terrifying and ominous. Anne Hathaway as Catwoman/Selina Kyle is a massive character, a scene stealer and a great addiction too, which ends up fitting amazingly and responding to a lot of fans that were asking for her since the first movie of Nolan’s trilogy.
Everyone is really amazing, the dynamic scenes between the actors are greatly done, well written, and well directed.
At a running time of almost 3 hours, the film never becomes boring, which is pretty impressive. “The Dark Knight” is both emotionally and amazing! The movie's action sequences were spectacularly well created and purely intense. The dialogue between the character's are intelligent, highly believable and they correspond very well to the saga. Its soundtrack is terrific and it transmits the vibe some of the scenes transmits to us. It was very well edited the sound use helped to develop some of the movie's action scenes, without making only an empty movie with explosions and visuals.
In conclusion, the film is a gorgeous reminder! With a great writing and direction it enhance any movie, even one about a superhero - usually seen as mindless entertainment. I’ve always loved Christopher Nolan's approach to Batman and it’s really admirable how he was always worried to make the character being consensual to the plot, he always added some layers or background episodes to make this story even more epic!
