The Conjuring 2 may lack a "Clap-clap" level scare like the first film but offers everything else; romance, drama, action, tension and plenty of scares.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The rare actually good horror sequel, The Conjuring 2 serves as yet another example of how James Wan is able to balance good, quality, and well-earned scares with a solid story that keeps you engrossed even when the scary bits take a bit of a break. As with the original, The Conjuring 2 has a lot going for it. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga have terrific chemistry and make for a truly believable married couple who happen to fight demonic presences in homes. Plus, this new story - particularly the nun - made me produce more than a few bricks out of fear. The slow introduction of the presence and then the rising actions of its presence is great. The film is willing to build tension in a horror movie sense while then balancing it with the tension of whether or not everyone will believe the family. Most horror movies just want to skip into everything and just assumes everyone believes in ghosts. However, Wan knows he has skeptics in the crowd and must prove his case in order to scare them as well. This said, there is one major problem with The Conjuring 2 that holds it back; the ending. In order to defeat the demon, Lorraine must use its name against it. How does she know its name? Oh, it told her earlier in the movie. If the name gives humans power over the demon, why would the demon ever give up its name? I like to imagine that this demon was fired as Chief Possession Officer in England after such a rookie mistake. That said, The Conjuring 2 keeps you on edge for the entire film and effectively earns its scares, instead of relying on cheap tricks. Heck, even the jump scares are well earned, merely through the tension and atmosphere Wan creates. Though a minor stepback, The Conjuring 2 takes what made the original terrific horror and repackages it for another story. Expand

The Conjuring 2 offers up some great scares and a very haunting demon, however it feels too familiar to the first and doesn't really break any new ground to the horror franchise.

The film is a true mix of scares, afflictions, romances and drama. Everything is very well architected so that the film has a more sensitive and familiar touch. The film is certainly efficient in terror (perhaps even more than its predecessor), but the big bonus is the empathy that the viewer gets the family during the movie.

Featuring new tracks for future movies and using their own resources to create effective antagonists, The Conjuring 2 is certainly the best horror movie I've ever seen.

It follows mostly identical beats to the original film. However, this is not necessarily a bad thing! Ed and Lorraine Warren receive a lot more character development in this sequel. The introduction of the Nun as a villain also works incredibly well. However, there is also not one conjuring in this movie. There is another banishing, where the spirit is expelled from the home. No spirits are summoned at all. Just a little nomenclature fun fact!

The direction is remarkably well done. The scares in the first act are especially scary. The finale is satisfying. This is a very enjoyable horror sequel. Can't wait to see the rest of the franchise!

"The Conjuring 2" Is Equivalent To Its Predecessor, Diabolically Creepy

James Wan is the genuine Sir Alfred Hitchcock of the 21st century

Three years ago, the world went crazy with the 5th invention of the Malay director, James Wan - my king, master and role model -. "The Conjuring" triumphs in critics and box office bringing a breakthrough and resurgence to horror movies in the last decade,it's considered as the master jewel of malayan and the cinematographic of horror. Wan has continuously been providing us great achievements in commercial films, since his major debut as a director with "Saw" in 2004 to his first action film "7 Furious" last year; his shiny and original style to portray suspense and horror through each frame, has made to the director reaches to the top of podium of the films, not only in the horror genre, also the action genre, and we hope more he'll try to experiment.

"The Conjuring 2" opens the same iconic way that its predecessor, now is the famous case of Amityville (112 Ocean Avenue) which reveals to Ed and Lorraine Warren, the renowned paranormal investigators duo. Amityville was the event that gave them renown and recognition to investigators, but not by their horrible experiences, but by unbelief and ignorance of the people, which didn't believe it possible that those things happen. Later, within the film, we continue to validating in a 90s TV Show lack of confidence and credibility of the people towards the Warrens. Ironically, that skepticism would be powered once more with the Enfield Poltergeist, the case more documented to paranormal level. The famous massacre (DeFeo family) has been adapted millions and millions of times a big screen, however, Wan manages to save that gloomy essence of the night of the murder and projects it of a delirious and disturbing way in Lorraine's head, from the first minutes, "HORROR" genre shines.

The Enfield Case is adapted with purity and splendour of a script credited to Carey Hayes and Chad Hayes & James Wan and David Leslie Johnson. Wan dodges references of the two small programs have focused on the event to develop to Ed and Lorraine in the story (in real life, Warrens had not the least significance in the case, they only evidenced it one night). The film takes its time - somebody says that enough, I for one, the more see James's delights more I go crazy - to introduces the destabilized life of Peggy Hodgson (Frances O'Connor). The events happened in a interval between 1977 and 1979, to capture each sublime moment of the epoch, it was vital the intervention of the Department of costume led by Kristin Burke, the Department of light and art led by Fiona Gavin, A. Todd Holland and Andrew Rothschild, which not exaggerated in capturing the atmosphere of the 70s and 80s. Wan is amazing to recreate complex and refined milieus and sets, every shadow, square, furniture, door, toy and even each color play a fundamental role in the creation of the style of the director, a director who is delicately precise with his details, even though was a humble house, without many luxuries or support tools, the visual tension is concurrent.

On a night as any, Hodgson family is sleeping peacefully after a tiring day. Two of the four children, Janet (Madison Wolfe) and Margaret (Lauren Esposito) are awakened abruptly from their nap by an unknown entity, immediately, they go to tell what happened them to her mother, who refuses to believe and finds an Ouija board manually made by her daughters. Next day, harassment persist more sharply up to the point that the mother experiences with her own eyes paranormal events - James's interesting proposal to not to fall into the cliche that nobody believes them. Meanwhile, a suggestive sub-plot takes place in Warren family. Lorraine tends to keep fragments of each case and in their latest investigations, she sees to the Demon Nun (Bonnie Aarons), a superb and shocking demonic nun who torments them with a sinister intent, that purpose will intertwine of a sumptuous way with Hodgson's ending (which never happened).

Wan knows how to distort every trick in his favor, rung by rung construction makes that final climax has really earned. Wan is distinguished by the ability to frighten or intimidate the audience with shots both day as at night, he knows play and combine the tools that possesses, knows to keep constant tone of his film, he doesn't allow his audience to sleep, and even though this time he uses to more jump-scares than its predecessor, are equally enjoyable and are not shamelessly used. All of the above is essential in the foundations, however, the actors take all the credit Ed, Lorraine, Peggy and her four children (especially Janet) are fabulous, measured and charismatic.

"The Conjuring 2" is credited with the title "Horror film of the year" and is used for viewing the constant advancement of its director within the genre, it's hard to watch and hear, the film is not suitable for hearts or minds weak, "The Conjuring 2" an instant classic.

Ok to start things off I really liked the first movie and I really wanted to like this, and I did. Since this was a horror movie sequel I had a feeling this wasn't going to be any good.
Everyone in the movie was great including the kids. There was one scene which I won't spoil had Patrick Wilson, Madison Wolfe and a glass of water. The nun you saw in the trailer was really scary. Even when the scary parts are not happening, the saw character moments are great. James Wan is a master of horror. You can tell he knows what he's doing. The soundtrack is great, the scares are great, and the characters are great. One huge surprise was Simon McBurney, I haven't seen him in anything but he was great. Another great thing about the movie is that it's very entertaining. My only problem is that it uses some horror cliches but its just done so well that it feels different. That's my opinion though. This is the best horror sequel to come out. Is the film perfect, no, is it great, yes. You really should check the film out when you get the chance.

Enfield in the 70's acts as a brilliantly sombre setting for this take on the famous real-life haunting described as 'England's Amityville.' I've watched some of the footage taken from around the time and although I'm a non-believer, some of the goings-on did phase me a little. For example, how did such a young girl manage to change the pitch of her voice so drastically without seriously damaging her throat? If is was all a hoax (which I'm almost certain it was) then it was all very convincing one and not bad for a bunch of nutty inbreds. It certainly makes for a great horror, especially in this hands of Wan, who takes it to a new level of course, throwing in the Warrens and a bad-ass demon to boot. What a film Expand

Imagine the best elements of The Exorcist, Poltergeist, The Amityville Horror, Insidious, and The conjuring, and you have this new age classic. The camera work in this is absolutely astonishing and evokes pure tension throughout. The atmosphere and lighting is executed perfectly. The plot has several different aspects intertwining into a fantastic story overall. The soundtrack is stunningly terrifying. The demonic entities are the most frightening I've ever seen. I was nodding off until Lorraine and Ed arrived in London – but then I thought the film really took off and was fantastic. The "second half" was beautifully acted with plenty of tension and great plot twists. Perhaps the problem was that the introduction to the haunting was not very interesting or original nor were the scenes of Lorraine and Ed at home, even though we are fond of them by now. Yes, I know this was necessary explanation but much of it was really dull and went on much too long. But once the plot strands came together – Wow! Expand

SlightlySequels of horror genre have always been cursed to turn out poor yet director James Wan manages to set his bar as compelling as the first one; though not critically-acclaimed but overall a satisfying scare without blood and gore. Slightly longer than its predecessor, the 134 minutes running time enhances smooth pacing of the plot, allows further debate over the controversy of supernatural phenomenons and scientific psychology, human tricks and role play of the religion organisations; even if parts of its horror elements may feel routine, it is still able to trigger chills and unsettling moods. Characters development and emotional engagement especially the love life of Warren have made this follow up more to like a family crisis drama interrupted by a demonic figure, thanks to the strong performance of the young casts, eerie but not over loud thematic scores as well as the confident cinematography and visual effects. Overall, the efforts of remaining the styles from the first one, the decision to twist the final act and the addition of dramatic aspects are mixing so well which eventually it just feels so real that leaves the desire to follow up with the next documented case. What works in James Wan's follow up to his horror hit, aside from the man's mastership over the genre, is that there is a very human element to it. It treats it's character like humans and takes time to allow us to connect and care aboutWhat works in James Wan's follow up to his horror hit, aside from the man's mastership over the genre, is that there is a very human element to it. It treats it's character like humans and takes time to allow us to connect and care about them. It even fleshes out the Warrens a little bit more.

All of that is something the vast majority of horror film's struggle with nowadays. We aren't able to care about their characters, because all they really are is blank faces meant to scream at stuff. The Conjuring 2's ability to give us characters that feel like real people (all fantastically portrayed by a very talented cast) gives the movie an incredible edge over the competition. It also allows elements of humor, heart, and romance to be apart of the experience in ways that feel natural and believable. The writing is just good.

The horror elements is also very well handled. While it ends up being not that scary, Wan's experience with the genre allows for a very well-crafted haunted house thrill-ride. The excellent camera angles, spooky ideas, and an actual emphasis on tension building show what mainstream horror movies can be in the right hands.

James Wan gives us something better than all those crappy teenage date night, jump scare fests that clog up theaters all the dang time. It's a respectable effort. One made out of genuine love for the genre and talent. As a result it's so much more than your cheaply-made cash-crab horror sequel that we so often get. James Wan breaths new potential back into the mainstream horror genre. It's just up to other directors to pick up on it and start making horror movies with their heads and hearts, instead of just focusing on their wallets.

Yes, it looks like something we have seen it before in other horror films, but it is the cinematography that brings up the tension. The jump scares are not cheesy at all, they are great. We also get to know more about the Warrens in this movie and what they had been through, and how they feel, which is why when the girl told Lorraine about her paranormal experience, and Lorraine being still-ed, you actually felt how Lorraine feels. This also makes the drama so rich. Definitely watch it if you like the first conjuring! And I hope they make conjuring 3 with James Wan directing it. Expand

While The Conjuring 2 isn’t free of cliches and isn’t better than it’s predecessor, it’s a really solid horror film separate from the original. The Conjuring 2 is chilling without relying on jump scares, features really good character development, despite being a tad familiar. This film may prove that James Wan is the modern king of horror, because every horror film he does is solid.
One thing to learn from this film is that while jump scares are a cheap way to get scares, they can be very effective when used sparingly. Many modern horror films rely solely on jump scares to scare the audience, but this film has a truly chilling tone, and many scenes are terrifying without jumping the audience. That being said there are jump scares littered throughout this film, but Wan is clever when he uses them, and is often effective when he uses them. I’m proud that most horror films don’t jump me, that being said multiple times watching this film I found myself jumped.
One major reason this film succeeds is because of the character development, which really helps the audience care about the characters. Every single character in the film is well fleshed out, and given a moment of relatability. Even the ghosts in the film are generally scary and have a really good design. However, the film’s characters represent one of the film’s major problems, the fact that it’s based on true events. After seeing this film it would seem to say that the phrase “based on true events” was only included for dramatic effect.
The story of the film is based on the actual events of the Enfield Poltergeist in England in the late 70’s but the problem is that half the film uses moments from that investigation and the other half feels like an exorcist rip off. It’s unfortunate because there’s a terrifying story, despite the evidence that it was a hoax, in the Enfield Poltergeist that gets lost in the shuffle. Simply put if the filmmakers hadn’t felt the need to match The Exorcist, the film’s ending may not have felt so different from the rest of the film.
In the end for horror buffs, this may be the best horror film of the year, if nothing better comes along. For those who want to see a great horror film regardless of its faithfulness to the actual events this is a great film, but for those who want a faithful adaptation of the Enfield Poltergeist this film definitely takes some liberties. That being said this film is genuinely scary which is rare today, and above that is just a good film in general, so it’s most definitely worth seeing.

The film is based on the true story, that follows Ed and Lorraine Warren trying to help a family with their problems with paranormal forces in Brimsdown, Enfield council house in 1977, what is their most documented paranormal case ever.
This is one of the best horror movies ever made in my opinion, and it is much better than the first film which I also really liked. What this movie does is benefit from a great horror director who clearly knows how to inject good scares with amazing use of camerawork and tension building that result to thrilling scenes and make for a great movie overall.
All of the actors do a fantastic job, with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga on the lead who have great chemistry with each other and make us really feel for their characters when stuff with the demons is going down. Also, Madison Wolfe gives one of the best kid performances on screen ever. She is just brilliant and carries entire scenes on her own, with her amazing gifted ability to act and it might just be me but she is totally Oscar worthy here. Much better than all the kids in Stranger Things combined, even though I know that's a TV Shows by comparison, but just on the acting scale of things she deserves much more recognition for this role .
Since the movie is over two hours, by the end it does feel like it is going on for a bit too long, and the ending in itself is a bit too much in the sense that the way they defeat the demon and resolve the case felt like cheating to me. But either way those are the only small issues that I have with this wonderful film which I loved and I can't wait to see what's in store for this universe.

The film was written by Carey Hayes, Chad Hayes, Wan and David Leslie Johnson. It is the sequel to the film The Conjuring, which was released on July 19, 2013. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprise their roles as paranormal investigators and authors Ed and Lorraine Warren. The Warrens travel to the United Kingdom to assist the Hodgson family, who are experiencing poltergeist activity at their Enfield council house in 1977.

-The film was released in the United States on June 10, 2016, by Warner Bros. Pictures.

--Filming:

-Principal photography for The Conjuring 2 began on September 21, 2015, in Los Angeles, California. Due to inexplicable eerie events during production of the first film, a priest from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Santa Fe was brought in to bless the set of the sequel by the film's producers. Production moved to London on November 18, 2015, with filming taking place in and around The Warrington, a pub in the residential district of Maida Vale. On November 22, filming took place at Marylebone station. Filming concluded on December 1, 2015. Production lasted for 50 days, with 40 days filming on sets and locations in Los Angeles, and 10 days on location in London.

-In early July 2015, lead actors Farmiga and Wilson visited Lorraine Warren at the New England Paranormal Research Center in Connecticut in preparation for their roles.

--Critical response:

-The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reports an approval rating of 73%, based on 92 reviews, with an average rating of 6.6/10. The site's critical consensus reads, "The Conjuring 2 can't help but lose a bit of its predecessor's chilly sting through familiarity, but what remains is still a superior ghost story told with spine-tingling skill." Metacritic assigned the film a weighted average of 64 out of 100, based on 34 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".

-In her review for The Hollywood Reporter, Sheri Linden praised the film, saying: "Three years after The Conjuring rattled the multiplex with old-school horror, director James Wan ups the ante with an excellent sequel." Owen Gleiberman of Variety gave the film a mixed review, writing: "On one level, The Conjuring 2 is just a not-bad megaplex funhouse movie, no more and no less, but on another level it offers its potential fans a helping of reassurance to go along with the fear. If there are ghost demons out there, then God must be out there as well. Audiences, it was long ago proven, will pay to see both." TheWrap's Alonso Duralde gave the film a positive review, stating: "Frightening rarely strikes twice in the same place, despite the efforts of so many horror sequels, but even if The Conjuring 2 doesn't deliver the delightful jolts of its predecessor, it maintains a consistent chill throughout, with a slow and steady dread that creeps up on you over time."

-In a mixed review, Chris Nashawaty of Entertainment Weekly gave the film a B-, writing: "There are some solid scares (Wan is too gifted in the dark art of gotcha manipulation to not make you leap a few times), but there's nothing on par with the first film's brilliant hide-and-clap scene with Lili Taylor." Pete Hammond of Deadline.com wrote that he was "pleasantly surprised" by the sequel and what Wan has accomplished with the film, stating: "Wan knows the tricks of this trade (heightened sound effects, moving furniture, dark corners) but somehow miraculously he really puts a fresh spin on it all here. It's riveting stuff, even if in a familiar cinematic environment." He added: "It is one hell of a movie."

--Possible sequel:

-Director James Wan has said that a third Conjuring film is possible if response to The Conjuring 2 warranted it. He said: "There could be many more (Conjuring) movies because the Warrens have so many stories." Screenwriters Chad and Carey Hayes have also expressed interest in working on a story for another sequel. However, Wan stated that he may not have time to direct a third film because of his commitment to other projects.

For such a low budget, the producers got huge box office numbers. To tell you the truth, I watched the 1st installment and was quite impressed but passed on the rest. Just catching up to them as its 3rd installment will be released as of writing. My take? It is a good supernatural thriller that suffers the same problem as 'Annabelle': as it is based on a true story, the film makers can only tell you so much without 'over dramatization' and face it, a ghost film is bounded by one own's imagination, but a 'reality' based film such as this is bounded by the facts of the case itself. Of course, you can add a 'Freddy Krueger' like figure here and there, but to no avail. It is designed as thrill ride hence its popularity but for horror fans such as myself, it felt too 'mild' for my liking. Expand

With "The Conjuring 2," Wan reimplements the many sensations that made that predecessor great (the visuals, the sound design, the character development), slightly improves upon the things that hurt the 2013 film (the cheese, the unintentional humor), and even leaves room for some new elements for the audience to chew on as well (new locale, new demons, new visual tricks). It's enough that Wan has made an actually watchable horror film, but a great horror sequel? Bravo, sir. Bravo. Expand

This time a London family struggle in their haunted house.

First of all, I am not a big fan of the first film, but I liked that. Now this sequel was not bad either. This time it takes us to the London. But the film reminded me the 80s film 'Poltergeist', particularly the second part. So don't assume it is exactly the same, only the scenes involving house seems similar, but the story was different. It is another true story based film, that's what they said in the opening statement. You're not forced to believe that, if you're here for an entertainment, you will get that if you put your logics away for the two hours.

A family of four young children and their mother living in a house in the London witness some serious paranormal activities lately. Particularly the eleven year old girl affected the most with the spirit the house possessed. So the American couple from the first film are brought in to do their best to help the family. When they try to contact the spirit, they won't get what they were looking for. Instead, an unexpected blame goes for the girl and soon the family loses confidence in them. The overcoming those misunderstanding, particularly realising the truth brings a twist before concluding the tale.

The one twenty minute never looked too long. Because there's always something keeps happening, so the audience to keep engaged with. Probably this is won't be your best horror film of the years, but being a horror themed film, it had good form of those contents. Not too scary, at a time those clichés were used in a good way to bring freshness in the scenes. I will credit the writers for that. Besides, the actors were undoubtedly good, including those little ones. For me this is a better horror film and I definitely look for another sequel. I hope this one would stand up to your expectations.

As good or better than the first Conjuring film. Especially welcome is the fact that every character recognizes from very early on that something happens and the film does not spend half of its run-time letting a particular character being ignored by the others (so annoying when it comes to this genre). Despite the over 2 hour-long run time, the film manages to keep it classy and fun. In some parts it has the quality of a good drama. See it! Expand

There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile.

He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse,

The Conjuring 2 is one of those rare squeals that wasn't terrible, but rather good. The squeal did a lot of things better than first film in terms of character's, the twist and the unpleasant atmosphere. But it's kinda rare that we get a squeal that's just as solid as it's predecessor with plenty of surprises under it's sleeve.

I have no idea how James Wan dose it. I seriously don't know how he manages to take the things that I usually can't stand in today's horror and somehow turn it into gold. That's why The Conjuring movies always stand out from the rest of the paranormal demonic movies, because movies like 'The Conjuring' actually have an atmosphere and characters with depth. Even the jump scars are effective and used at appropriate times. James Wan is the only director I can think of that I trust when it comes to directing horror movies, as he understands the genre well. Wan does it again here with tension that builds and the good old sense of death.

The acting from everyone was pretty damn solid. Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga and Frances O'Connor were all great in the movie. Even the littler girl (Madison Wolfe) was really good, as she actually looked terrified and it was a very convincing performance, even for a child actor in a horror movie.

What really surprised me about "The Conjuring 2" is that I actually did care for the character's. I mean, compared to some horror flicks that are somewhat similar to this, but with the character's that are forgettable and so boring to watch on screen. Luckily this movie had character's with emotional weight to them.

The camera work, the score and the cinematography are the highlights of this film. It also takes it's time and uses different ways to scare or spook you. It may not impress a lot of people, but I do admire the film markers for taking a risk like that.

Enfield haunting case has been a hot topic for years now with people debating if it's a hoax or not. And while the "based on a true story" may be bullsh*t (or just any movie that uses that headline for attention), I'm just so use to it now that it's getting numb. A lot people complained that this was too Hollywood or it was not accurate to the original story. I have seen plenty of documentary's and stories about the Enfield haunting case, and it's so BORING. I literally found nothing interesting about it and all the evidence for the paranormal haunting seemed a bit fake. I'm so glad this movie wasn't accurate to the original case that may or may not be real. The film markers took something with it and told a different story with events that's very loosely based on an actual case.

The problems that I had with this movie (which is not a lot) is the use of CG for scenes involving the Crooked Man. It took me out of the movie and it kinda took away the terror from the Crooked Man character that Wan beautifully created. And yes, Javier Botet (who is about 6' 6¾) plays the Crooked Man, but the CG is so noticeable when he starts jumping around or growing tall to scare the little girl that he's haunting. I think practical effect's would have been so much better and scarier.

Overall rating: The Conjuring 2 is a solid squeal that's way better then the avenge horror squeal. It takes your expectations and turns it completely around.

Being someone who has seen both of The Conjuring films now, you can really just jump into this one without any prior knowledge to the franchise, and the little reference that it does make to the first film is almost insignificant, there really isn't any need for prior knowledge of the films. The film is a jumpscare-fest, yes, and it does so generously, however, it creates a hell of a lot of tension and atmosphere throughout the film and then doesn't even lead to a scare at times, which I can definitely appreciate.

However, the movie is extremely cliche in the common horror movie elements category, stupid character moments, levitating character moments, ghosts don't exist when it's daytime moments, yeah there are a few cliches here and there, and James Wan certainly knows how to deliver his cliches. I think that we all know that the 'based' part of 'based on a true story' is highly stressed upon because it's probably **** for the most part, so don't walk into the movie thinking "Oh my god! Based on a true story? Does that mean that ghosts and possessive spirits are real?! Oh god! I better become an intensive Catholic right now!", because it isn't real, and people should know that, but regardless of real or not, still a good movie.

The Conjuring 2 will scare you, and it's definitely a good horror movie, I would recommend it to first time horror movie viewers and people who saw the first movie, however, horror movie junkies might not see it as original or special in any way, but regardless as appeal to the horror movie junkies, I think that it's a good horror movie for anyone to take a look at, so yeah, consider watching it.

The Conjuring is so good that it could be a TV series. I loved, I think is the best horror movie like The Conjuring, the first. I hope that this film has continuity. The Conjuring 3, please.

The conjuring 2 is a more story driven plot then it's predecessor and with the 2 hour length, it help fleshes out it's characters more so than the first film. The sequel format allow for more setup action scenes for you adrenaline junkies out there. The film utilizes CGI but, with enjoyable affect. Where as the first film used no CGI or at least, non so blatant as the sequel. Cinematography is natural and fits the time period and theme of the movie. The sound effects is chilling and ambient almost, atmospheric. The acting is top-notched from all cast members, because the writing in this film coveys it's characters empathy for one another very well that, it should seem familiar to the audience. The pacing of the film know it's direction and knows it's final destination. No scenes ever felt out of place. It all flowed fluidity, never clashing with itself. All in all, worth my time and money. I want more. Expand

The film has some great moments. I scared 3 times. The evil guy is very awesome. He could have more minutes. I think the children wasn't on the focus enough. We don't know anything about the dad.

This is an excellent sequel and very well paced and just as teriffying as the first one with amazing acting now mostly by the kids. I was a little bit not satisfied with the ending a little bit but overall, it was fantastic 9/10

Definitely scarier than the first, however, it couldn't help but lose some of the chilling originality. This one was a bit more wacky, but still scared the **** outta me! Once again, a good sign!

The third instalment in The Conjuring Universe and sequel to 2013’s The Conjuring features the return of famous paranormal investigators and demonologists, Ed and Lorraine Warren, and their new case took them to Enfield, London in England to investigate another infamous paranormal case, The Enfield Poltergeist, despite the Warrens does not heavily involved in this case in real life.

In the year of 1976, Ed and Lorraine Warren (Wilson and Farmiga) receive media attention after their investigation into the Amityville Horror case, which is one of the infamous paranormal cases the Warrens have investigated in real life. One year later, another similar incident which have been compared to Amityville, occurs in Enfield when the Hodgson family experience strange occurrences in their home.

After all the family members of the Hodgson witnessed the paranormal events and then being interviewed by Maurice Grosse (McBurney) along with the local media, the Warrens are brought into the case to investigate whether the haunting is real or hoax. Meanwhile, Lorraine has an encounter with a mysterious demonic nun figure which has been haunting her and is fear for Ed’s life after having a premonition of his death for years.

Like its predecessor, The Conjuring 2 is a very scary movie which scares me many times and it is definitely better than 2014’s Annabelle. The jump scares are very well utilised when you let your guard down. I was lucky enough not to have heart attack during those jump scares. The make-up of the demonic nun figure is very scary and it is not even done in a CGI. This method saved the crews some money on investing in CGI.

The performance of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are once again amazing and impressive and they put much more efforts than in the previous movie. Madison Wolfe’s acting was pretty good as well especially when she used British accent for her character she played despite being an American which actually surprised me. She managed to use that accent throughout the movie without accidentally slipping out her natural American accent at any point in the movie.

Last but not least, all praises go to James Wan once again for his direction in making this movie a good and scary horror movie. If there is another future instalment for this franchise, I look forward to it.

And let's put an emphasis on ALMOST. The acting was superb from all angles especially the lead couple, the girl and her mother. There were some extraordinary struggling scenes that were executed perfectly thanks to the latter actors. And because of that, the film adds these extra layers of brilliance making this a great experience for the viewers as we struggle along with the lead actors. Other than that, storywise, it's just a straight forward possession film that takes place in London. But all praise must fall on James Wan for his choice of scene shots and his way of creating suspense and terror. For example the house in London looks incredibly real and one can almost feel this dread and doom inside of it. It actually (and sadly)looks like some old houses in London even in this day and age. This film is strongly recommended for horror fans and even those who aren't keen about that genre. Looking forward to the 3rd part in this trilogy.. Expand

Since I'm not a huge fan of the first film, I'm surprised to see that I actually liked this film. A somewhat effective horror film that improves from its predecessor.

But honestly, with a better director, and better dialogue, this movie would've been so much better. I'm not a huge fan of James Wan, but this is definitely one of his better works. The cinematography is the highlight of the film. Every shot that's set to be creepy was actually creepy because of the atmosphere and tension of the shots. The acting is mostly fine, but some of the cringeworthy dialogue just ruins the tension of some parts of the film. MOST of the effects are surprisingly fake-looking, though. So much that it's unbelievable for a big studio horror film like this. And at some points of the film, the jumpscares and “scary" moments in the film just made me laugh. That's the main problem of the film:it's not scary. The movie's fine, yeah, but it could've been so much better.

Let me get some negatives out of the way. There were some shaky cam moments in the beginning of the film that made no sense story wise. 2 of the 4 child actors weren’t that good but what do you expect from child actors. The night scenes in the house in the first half of the film were too dark just like the original Conjuring movie but James Wan fixes this halfway through the movie. Now let’s get onto the positives. Ed and Lorraine Warren were given better story arcs than the first film. The main cast did an outstanding job in their respective roles within the film. The cinematography was great throughout the film and it had some really nice tracking shots that weren’t too long or weren’t too short. The tone remained consistent throughout the film and the plot made sense. I understood what was going on and why throughout the entire film. The demons in this movie are flat out creepy. The Nun got me every time it was on screen and the Crooked Man’s design was great. I swear they used stop motion animation for the Crooked Man. If they did, then they blended his character really well with the live action scenes. The scenes with both those demons added suspense and terror to an already terrifying film. Overall, The Conjuring 2 improves from most of the mistakes from the original film while adding better cinematography, a better supporting cast, and scarier demons. I give The Conjuring 2 an 8.5/10. As an opponent of horror, I must say that the second part was even better than the previous one. Again, they're pulling it all on Warren, and again, it's helped that it's based on real events, which adds to the realism, and that's exactly what so many horror movies forget, and that they're just unrealistic. This is not the case here, and after the film we have a recording of a real interview, which was an absolutely brilliant idea. The Conjuring 2 is an excellent sequel and is one of the best horror movies I've ever seen. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, it seems like Wan delivered yet again on this one. The Conjuring 2 avoids falling into the “sequel is worse” trap in every way possible, which is surprising because this is a horror franchise causing it to be more susceptible to being worse the second time. The film comes very close to being as good as the first one, although it doesn’t quite hit the mark. That’s okay, because it’s still a very enjoyable and smart movie. The Conjuring 2 reuses a lot of the really effective parts of its predecessor and uses them well; it doesn’t seem like Wan just took these parts because he knew they worked the first time around and they’d be safe for him. He does some things differently and uses some of the tricks up his sleeve to huge success with regards to scaring the viewers and characters. The story is essentially the same: a family terrorized by supernatural presences in their own home turns to paranormal investigators for help. This film also relies on jump scares slightly more than the first one did, which is slightly disappointing but still works just fine. But, this film does have some twists and turns that we didn’t see in the first film allowing the structure and scares to have a different and unique feel that make the movie really engaging. The script and direction incorporate new things into this movie which helps it rise above the cliche story. The acting is just as good as it was in the first one and embodies the same concepts and but also is appropriate considering the structural differences between this movie and the first one. The characters respond differently to certain things in this movie because certain things are different from Conjuring 1. The end of the movie is the same as the first conjuring but is still good nonetheless: it’s a happy ending that doesn’t set up sequels but certainly leaves room for them to happen, and one has already happened so far. Conjuring 2 exemplifies the idea of if something isn’t broken, don’t fix it. Overall, Conjuring 2 has some new and interesting stuff going on in it and nearly reaches the heights of its predecessor, and I’d strongly recommend it to horror and James Wan fans. Expand
