This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A great take on Batman. More realistic in a sense and showed the early development of the legend surrounding Batman within his universe. This is not an experienced Batman, but his beginning steps with being the Batman. This movie depicts a Batman that is not a combat master or knows his way out of every situation because he lacks the experience. This movie will show Batman getting messed up because he is not thinking calmly, he is thinking with rage. I really appreciated the depiction of him being amateur Batman because it shows us something no Batman movie has shown before and that was him learning how to be the true Batman. By the end he has grown substantially as a character and learned from the mistakes he made throughout the movie. The villains in this movie are also within the early development of their villainous careers, showing the penguin before he is the top boss and who was there before him. The main villain is the riddler and this is the first instance Batman and the riddler ever come in contact. The riddlers perception of Batman is twisted and unknowing of the Batman’s true motives. Spoiler, but the riddler actually believes the Batman is his partner in vigilantism, due to his inexperience with Batman. This movie is a great watch that truly shows how Batman started and the struggles he went through to overcome his internal battle. Expand

The whole film felt well thought out, with a clear direction. Gotham itself was stunning and believable. The sckre was excellent as were the aforementioned cast.. The weakest point for me was Zoe Kravitz but she wasn't intolerable. I am pretty excited to see where Matt Reeves, and his passion and vision and Pattinson, Wright, and Farrell go from here!

It starts out with the murder of a Gotham city mayoral candidate by the Riddler and we are told Bruce Wayne has been Batman for 2 years fighting crime. We see Batman apprehend some random thugs early on in the Gotham streets. Batman meets with Gordon to solve the Riddler mystery, and the Riddler leaves behind riddles as clues. The Riddler is sort of like Jigsaw in the Saw movies, the serial killer in Seven, or the Zodiac killer and he wears a green domino mask with a green jumpsuit with a question mark on it. The Penguin is also in the movie as a mob boss and he's somehow involved in the whole ruse. A sexy Zoe Kravitz plays Selina Kyle or Catwoman, a cat burglar, who wants revenge on Carmine Falcone for killing her roommate. She is Batman's love interest in the movie. Overall, the movie has some great action and cinematography and is pretty tense. It keeps you on edge. One criticism I have is that it was a little too gritty and dark, and took itself a little too seriously. There is very little in the way of comic relief, but that's usually what you can expect from the Batman movies. Expand

This leftist Marxist divisive bs agenda in everywhere on TV is why NetFlix is going broke. Otherwise, I very much enjoyed the movie. The actors played very well in their roles and I like the story: it reminded me more of the early comic books. The dark, morbid, creepy, and sad nature of things... yet there is hope and there is a fight that still lingers, and Batman, and Jim, while they are down, they are not giving up. And you can also feel the main villain wanting to "fix" things, in his own deranged manner... you feel bad for him but then you remember he's a psychopath criminal....... and lastly, by the end of the movie, you feel like things are reaching a boiling point.... things will get worse, but so will Batman. The musical score is awesome as well! Expand

The fact that Nirvana's "Something in the Way" -- a veritable anthem of depression -- is used prominently in at least a couple of scenes is evidence of the vibe director Matt Reeves was going for. That's not necessarily bad, but you'll have to accept that vibe as being fundamental to Bruce's nature to enjoy this movie. Thankfully, Pattinson spends most of his screen time as Batman rather than Bruce. When he is Bruce, he doesn't seem at all like the incredibly wealthy playboy/philanthropist he's supposed to be. Given the humanitarian mission of Wayne Enterprises, it's pretty bizarre that its CEO would *always* look like he's contemplating suicide. He's trying to fool the public, right?

That said, the emphasis on Batman as detective was welcome. He's supposed to be an incredibly smart guy, and Reeves really lets Batman show his smarts here. And, of course, he wouldn't be Batman without his amazing fighting chops. The fight scenes here are just remarkable. The fight choreo is the best of any Batman movie, IMO. Kudos to the stunt people in this film! I also appreciated that Reeves shows that, despite Batman's remarkable physical ability, he's still human and has his limits, which are definitely tested here.

The story is mostly interesting, but it tries to tackle too much. The movie chooses to introduce us to Batman, Cat Woman, The Riddler, Penguin, and Falcone (and technically The Joker, though just as a brief sequel teaser). It touches on their backstories, but it didn't feel like any of their backstories got the time they deserve. And this shifting about across characters had me drifting off a bit somewhere in the middle; things felt a little unfocused.

Speaking of which, the movie doesn't justify its nearly 3-hour runtime. Given the long runtime, I wish they *did* focus more on backstories, but there are some overlong and unnecessary scenes which didn't add to the narrative. Still, this is a solid entry into the Batman catalog, and with a few tweaks, I'm hopeful that the next installment (which will almost certainly feature The Joker) will be even better.

It’s Halloween night. Do you know where the Batman is? Is he lurking in the shadows of that alleyway you face after a robbery you commit? Is he inside the building you’re vandalizing, waiting for your guard to drop? Or maybe he’s behind youIt’s Halloween night. Do you know where the Batman is? Is he lurking in the shadows of that alleyway you face after a robbery you commit? Is he inside the building you’re vandalizing, waiting for your guard to drop? Or maybe he’s behind you in the subway as you heckle an innocent bystander. It’s a big city. He could be anywhere. He could be anybody. How would you ever know?

Matt Reeves’ interpretation of the caped crusader in “The Batman” focuses a lot on the fear that he instills. Fear has been in important plot device in every iteration, but it’s played on a lot here. A lot of criminals will boast how unafraid they actually are, but when they see the cowl erupt into the light, and the speed of him increase they can’t help but cower and lose that naive bravery.

But fear is not the only tool Batman/Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) has in his arsenal. In addition to being a very imposing figure with incredible, but grounded, gadgets, Batman has his mind, where he takes on the identity of the world’s greatest detective, a famous moniker that Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin (Colin Farrell) takes and puts on its heels. And he needs to be if he hopes to save the city from its latest threat, The Riddler (Paul Dano), a masked serial killer hellbent on revealing the corruption of the city of Gotham and its leaders. Not just the crooked cops but the elected officials, members of the mob, and philanthropists alike. Those who promise change, only to be forgotten and betrayed once the power they seek is attained.
Is Riddler wrong? Not necessarily. Corruption is a powerful weapon used to turn good men around into a life of deviance. But is he going about it the right way? Again, not really. But what can one do when the judges who would oversee the cases of the men put away are as corrupt as those that are put in front of them. That’s where the brute force of those like Batman who answer to nobody but themselves and the code they abide by comes in. There’s a line that you can cross, and once you do you’re just like those you seek to destroy.

Now if you’re reading this, and thinking “Well geez, this all sounds a little familiar” you would be on the right track. While Batman movies/comics/games have been saying more or less the same thing for the last 80+ years, the difference lies entirely in the execution. At this point with all the source material available, it’s hard to get the underlying of Batman wrong. Everything lies in the performance that is given, the stakes that are held, and the technical work behind and inside the camera.

One of the most talked about and prevalent aspects of this film is the beautiful and at times chilling score by Michael Giacchino. With his imposing theme, to the beautiful undertones of “Ave Maria”, there’s a lot to love. It’s a soundtrack that has the intense seat-gripping horns and the calm harps that can mold themselves to fit into whatever scene writer Matt Reeves and Peter Craig throw at the audience. And then there’s the cinematography by Greig Fraser. He has one of the best eyes for what the camera can show us in a modern blockbuster. He’s done the great work for “Dune”, “Vice”, “Zero Dark Thirty”, and more, proving time and time again he’s a force to be reckoned with and one that ultimately should be rewarded with an even more impressive career going forward.

There’s so much to talk about, but there’s also so much movie to be had. And keeping in theme with having this review be as spoiler-free as possible, it must be urged that the words on this page can’t express how much this movie deserves to be seen. Of course it won’t have any problem with that, seeing as it has sold out its early access fan screenings days before the official release.

Rapid firing what this movie had that was especially lovely: shirtless Robert Pattinson—Colin Farrell doing a little Penguin walk while tied up—Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman (nothing specific here, just her entire presence)—incredible action work by stunt coordinators Darko Tuscan, Steve Griffin, and everybody else on the stunt team.

Overall, “The Batman” brings a lot of the same to the table, but does it with a lot more craft and precision than some other efforts. The Batman was a wonderful film, and personally I can’t wait to see the rest of the story unfold in future movies.

Robert Pattinson is an amazing actor with a wide range (The Lighthouse, Good Time, The Devil All the Time,) and Matt Reeves is a phenomenal director that's working with some of the best source material ever. Batman is a character with a very fleshed out emotional and psychological background. Matt Reeves is a director that proved to be exceedingly talented in portraying emotional depth in an unlikely trilogy: Planet of the Apes. I didn't think that those movies could possibly be very good, but Matt Reeves made me deeply care about those characters. It is, in fact, one of the most emotionally impactful movies I've ever seen. So, naturally, I assumed that Reeves would spread his wings and soar with "The Batman." I am pleased to say that this time I was correct. At the heart of this story has always been a traumatized young boy. Other Batman films really only scratch the surface of this aspect of the character compared to other mediums. Animated movies such as "Mask of the Phantasm" and comics like "Arkham Asylum" by Grant Morrison explore Bruce's damaged psyche far more than any of the live action movies, and I've always loved those Batman stories, because it explores one of the most interesting things about him. Interestingly enough, over The Batman's three hour runtime there is no drawn out backstory involving the death of his parents. The only reference we see is a brief, maybe one-second flashback, and it's there more to show us that Bruce has PTSD. This movie doesn't use the same old scene to tug on our heart strings, because surely Reeves understood that we've already seen it too many times for it to be fully impactful. Rather, he shows us a very honest depiction of the aftermath. He's in pain, and he's tired. Even more so, he's angry, and God help any mugger that happens to be in his path on a dark, Gotham night. Many talented actors have portrayed Batman over the years, and I don't think it's fair to say that Pattinson is "the best," but he's perfect in this movie, and for me, this is the best iteration of a live action Batman to date. So I can't really help but like him more in this movie than I have liked any other portrayal of Batman.

The cinematography is breathtaking. Lighting is done masterfully. Unsurprisingly, a lot of the movie takes place at night, and Reeves does an amazing job of creating these dark scenes that are almost uncomfortable in how much they obscure, to give you that feeling of suspense that anyone who sees batman emerge from a shadow would feel. At the same time, these scenes manage to beautifully light and focus everything that the viewer should be seeing. It's perfect for a noir film, and it's perfect for a Batman film. I believe that the timing of this movie was absolutely perfect. Like most of us in 2022, Bruce is experiencing dark times, and he's still learning how to navigate that darkness. Bruce's fear of losing himself to this darkness is palpable in Robert Pattinson's performance as well as in the writing of this movie. The anger and brokenness is visible on his face, as he has lost the motivation to hide it. With Batman, on the other hand, there's an almost calm composure that parallels the chaos we see in Bruce. Reeves is telling us that this is the release. Batman is Bruce Wayne's way out. In fact, this is probably the only thing getting him through it. On some level, Batman is something that Bruce Wayne has to do. I was very happy with this movie's realistic portrayal of trauma early on, but by the end I was genuinely moved by the fact that we watch Bruce become someone that is worthy of admiration. By the end of the movie, he isn't just an angry person that beats up criminals. He helps people. By being a beacon of hope for them, he is able to be hopeful about his own future. The Riddler is the other side of that coin: a cautionary tale about what happens when traumatized people just burrow deeper and deeper into their own heads and put up walls, their egos inflating as they demonize and blame the rest of the world.

In conclusion, The Batman is a story about a legend in the making. It takes place early on in this story, and Bruce Wayne is still a diamond in the rough. Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson masterfully portray "the rough." Admittedly, the Batman story has always appealed to me as a person with childhood trauma, but I think that after 2021, literally all of us can appreciate a story about a good person trying to do the right thing in the middle of a crappy situation. This isn't necessarily a groundbreaking Batman story, but it is a groundbreaking Batman movie. I predict that pretty much every fan of Batman comics is going to love this movie. People that are mostly fans of the movies might be a little divided on this one as it is drastically different from any live action portrayal we have ever seen. For me, it's an easy 10/10.

There are so many things I would like to talk about so for the short review, this movie is amazing if you like batman, with much action but also much mystery, suspense. great acting, Robert Pattison completely owned the character, and every time he was on screen we could just feel his presence, and that feeling of superiority that batman radiates upon people, and the film scoring is just beautiful and a must-see. Now I would like to address some things that other people have been saying and I would like to comment on the fact that this is NOT a marvel movie, other reviews have said things for example " this movie was too dark, depressing" or "I wanted to see with my kids but it was too violent" but that is who batman is, if you read a batman comic it won't be happy, funny jokes, but a dark, violent, grim and serious story with some heavy topics. Secondly, this movie had a different pace, mood, and theme as the other times we have seen this character on the screen, One thing about Batman is that he is not just the world's greatest fighter but also the world's greatest detective and that was a complaint that I had with the other movies because they completely ignored this aspect of him, action here and there but never how smart he really was and in this movie they completely flipped it, showing us his skills as the worlds greatest detective most of the movie, trying to solve this mystery of murders, trying to understand the killers objective and who he was, and Lastly, he is not a "Ben Affleck" batman who will burst into a room with 30 people and take all them out without breaking a sweat, Pattison's batman is in his 2 year as Batman, even though he has his flaws in terms of ability, he is still learning how to be batman, but also struggling in finding who he really is as bruce Wayne. he is not a christan bale's bruce where he uses a fake smile and playboy lifestyle to hide his identity as batman but this bruce is in a very dark place and struggling mentally on who he is and what he should become vs what he needs to. I loved this movie very much, I'm going to watch it for a 2nd time tomorrow and I think you should two. Expand

Impeccable pacing, complex and interesting characters, the thrilling soundtrack by Michael Giacchino, Intriguing and awe-inspiring plot. Robbert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Paul Dano, John Turturro, Collin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Peter Sarsgaard all prove that they are worthy of their triple A acting status with brilliant performances that just capture you.
Yes, The Batman is the best live-action Batman movie of all time.

It's also interesting to look at the psychology present in Batman's mask and how it affects his personality as Bruce Wayne. When wearing the mask, Bruce "loses" emotions and becomes more instinctive, and when he takes it off, he "sees" himself dependent, bitter, as a person who is not able to overcome his trauma. He does what he does on the streets as he believes it's a unique way in his life in the sense of facing the past and preventing it from happening to other people. It's like Bruce just confronting his inner beast, in this case, the Batman persona. Also, it's important to see that Batman, in his second years on the streets, is still imperfect, that he's still in a process of identity construction. In that second year, he investigates a series of murders of Gotham's politicians and influentials (who were related to Batman). However, an unexpected moment, such as banners and the political case was exactly with the corruption of the city, becomes something more personal, which has psychological consequences and shakes Bruce's essence and mentality throughout the plot. It is also interesting to analyze how the film connects the Riddler's life with that of Batman: Trauma motivates one to fight crime, while the other to commit them. Expand

▪ Text: Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy are praised as one of the greatest superhero movies, as its prestige set an unsurmountable standard for later productions. After a decade, The Batman is agreeably the most successful resurrection of the icon.

Suppressive close-ups, contrasting lighting, and ceaseless soundtrack all display the palpable tension of Gotham city and its humid hellholes. Where the neon light couldn’t reach, even a silent frame of lurking shadow could instill fear into the audience.

Regarding characters, Andy Serkis’ veteran version of Alfred, Colin Farrell’s perfidious Penguin, and Jeffrey Wright’s faithful Gordon all provide new vibes that are unique from the previous movies. With a pair of nerdy glasses, Paul Dano performs a lethally menacing sociopath, child of solitude and envy, who’s distorted wish for a purge of corruption can only be expressed by bloodshed and grotesque riddles. Zoe Kravitz on the other hand, presents an audacious but righteous Catwoman with lineage that motivates her vengeance, as her relationship with Batman develops from enmity to mutual attraction.

Robert Pattinson nailed his character, through the detailed investigation and powerful punches, introducing an uncompromising, reckless, but dutiful vigilante. Even masked, every glimpse and stare of Pattinson fully demonstrates the Batman’s hesitation, fury, and vigilance. Bruce Wayne lacks affection, and Batman lacks recognition; Bruce grows by heartfully loving Selena and accepting the sin of his family, Batman grows by becoming a savior, a fearsome symbol, a stray of light that wades through murk and leads the people. Whether frantic mobs or hypocritical politicians, it is convincing that the city’s depravity can be arbitrated by our hero.

The only things I have to complain: firstly, can we not whisper through all our dialogues? It’s extremely tiring to completely understand the plot especially for a detective movie. Secondly, because of the singular narration, the pacing of the film is slightly slow. This can be resolved by combining conversations with ongoing events to increase tension and speed up storytelling (which is what Nolan did to earn 9.1 for Dark Knight on imdb).

Overall, Batman meets my expectation and impresses me with a different tone from the other DC movies. An absolute must-see.
▪ Summary: Resurrection of the Batman

I might be speaking with a bit of "recency bias," but I THINK this is one of the best DC movies yet: They did a great job at making things feel a bit more realistic in this version of Batman. This was coupled with amazing settings, scenery and atmosphere, I don’t think there was a single sunny day in Gotham.

I was absolutely blown away by Robert Pattinson's rendition of Batman! I was one of the initial naysayers who "Didn't want no... “TWILIGHT BOY” in their Batman movie!" But I was surprised and humbled by his stellar performance as a younger and grungier version of Batman/Bruce Wayne (He's certainly better than the LAST guy who played Batman).
Hell, even if Pattinson ended up doing a poor job, all the other actors would have covered for him: Zoë Kravitz might be the best Selina Kyle yet, I still refuse to believe that that was Colin Farrell portraying The Penguin! Dude literally disappeared into that role both literally and figuratively. Paul Dano took the role of The Riddler to places I would never imagine the role could go. Jeffrey Wright and Andy Serkis put their own unique spins on their respective roles.

If I were to give ONE "harsh" critique on the film, "The Batman" feels a bit too much like one of the Christopher Nolan Batman movies. Which isn't a terrible thing, I suppose. This movie is certainly a must for any fan of Superheroes so go watch it ASAP. And make sure to go potty before the movie starts cuz it’s a long one!

Visually it's a cross between Seven and Blade Runner. And you'd have to go back to the Burton's films that explore what an isolated, f'd up person Bruce Wayne/Batman truly is. As Willow Pill described being a drag queen as "mental illness with rhinestones", the Batman could be described as mental illness with costumes. And money. And weapons. And most of all, vengeance. The cast from Robert Patterson, Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, to John Turturro and of course, Colin Farrell covered in prosthetics and dialing in a performance just this side of Al Pacino in Dick Tracy, is marvelous. And Paul Dano is a psychopath for the ages. My only complaints is that the film veers towards Roland Emmerich territory in the final acts, and the fact that in such a grounded film, Alfred survives an explosive attack, hospitalized, with hardly a scratch. Overwise, great job. Expand

Alright folks, it's the moment we've been waiting for, well it's definitely the moment I've been waiting for. A new Batman movie has appeared in cinemas again and if someone told me ten years ago that I'd be excited for a new Batman movieAlright folks, it's the moment we've been waiting for, well it's definitely the moment I've been waiting for. A new Batman movie has appeared in cinemas again and if someone told me ten years ago that I'd be excited for a new Batman movie starring Robert Pattinson I'd never have believed them. The Batman is right up there as one of the best comic-book movies. No DC movie has been this good since The Dark Knight.

Psychotic serial killer, The Riddler (Paul Dano) sends Gotham into a panicked frenzy when he begins murdering key political figures and leaves cryptic clues for his next victims. Knowing this is just the beginning, Batman (Robert Pattinson) must investigate amongst rampant corruption to find The Riddler before more people are brutally murdered.

Robert Pattinson plays Bruce Wayne like we haven't seen on the big screen before. Riddled with trauma he is desperate to live his life as Batman and abandon Bruce Wayne altogether. Honestly he is in such a mood for the whole film. I'm very happy with how he took on the role. Feck the haters, every time a new Batman movie is in the works the haters emerge from all over to voice their anger towards whoever gets cast in a major role, be it hero or villain. Well Pattinson has come a long way since Harry Potter and Twilight, working alongside directors such as David Cronenberg, Robert Eggers, and Christopher Nolan. The list goes on and now in 2022 he's the Batman. Fair play to him, he completely disappeared into the role.

Director Matt Reeves certainly knew what he was doing when he gathered the cast for The Batman, honestly I was excited for this once I heard Paul Dano would be playing The Riddler, I can think of no better actor who can play that role. He's absolutely mental. Also starring Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, she owns every scene she's in, totally kicking ass. My favourite onscreen portrayal of Catwoman since Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns. We've all seen the pictures of Colin Farrell as The Penguin, completely unrecognisable is an understatement. I have to admit it was hard to imagine an adaptation of The Penguin that would fit the tone of a realistic Batman movie and not end up looking completely ridiculous but this works. Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz have amazing chemistry together, they were both perfect casting. You also have Jeffrey Wright as Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred and John Turturro as the feared mob boss Carmine Falcone. This is what a superhero film should be like, get a director who knows what he's doing, has a clear vision for the film and assemble the cast they want and you end up with thrilling experience that leaves the audience wanting more.

I love the dark and gritty city of Gotham, drenched in rain, gloomy and gothic. Wayne Manor looked like a neglected castle from a Tim Burton movie. The whole tone of the film has a similar feel to it like Nolan's Batman trilogy but with even more violence. Pattinson is perfect for capturing the dark and brooding 'orphan billionaire'. The score by Michael Giacchino is absolutely stunning. Perfectly complimenting the movie in every scene. What more can I say, I absolutely loved it. It's stunning, the cinematography is perfection, the fight scenes and car chases are exhilarating. The scene where the Batmobile makes its roaring entrance was brilliant. The entire cinema loved every minute of it. I'm already dying for a sequel. I cannot wait to see what the combination of Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson will do next.

The Batman definitely feels like more of a psychological crime thriller than a superhero movie. That's not a criticism, I loved the tone of Reeve's Batman. It's giving strong Se7en and The Zodiac Killer vibes. Dano's sadistic portrayal of The Riddler is everything I'd hoped it would be and more. A thrilling reboot that all you comic-book fans need to see. Highly recommended for all the Batman fans.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Batman is an incredible film with not much problems dragging it down. The cinematography is the best I've seen in a superhero movie in a long time. This movies looks better than Dune and that's a long feet. The vibe of Gotham is literally what you would expect Gotham to be, this **** hole place filled with corrupt leaders and insane criminals. Pattinson's portrayal as Batman is just really damn good, I think it's a tie against Bale's Batman. Riddler as a villain may not be Heath Ledger level but he is definitely 2nd place. His reasoning for everything he did fits perfectly well with Bruce's journey into becoming the hope of Gotham.
The movie is much more of a detective film compared to the other movies. It's a cat and mouse chase just like any other detective but this one is done really well in particular. Some of the reveals will surprise or excite you for what will happen next and the movie rarely diverts away from that main plot.
Every actor did wonderful in this film with Robert being the carrier. The arc Bruce goes through and finding out the secrets of his family into becoming the hope Gotham needs rather than the revenge fueled man he was at the beginning was absolutely astonishing. There are basically sorta 2 plots in this film. Number 1 is his chase for the Riddler and 2nd is him finding out the truth about Gotham and his family's past. All this plot concludes with an ending that wraps itself really well and feels as though all the suffering everyone goes through has lead to this final moment.

Flaws
1. Robert Pattinson's acting as Bruce Wayne. I understand the criticism of Bruce Wayne and Batman being the same character personality wise but I disagree that it is a fair criticism. His entire motivation in 90% of the film was him not caring to be Bruce Wayne. He doesn't care if he is a Wayne and he doesn't care about his public image. My criticism is how he looks. He looks way too emo to be Bruce Wayne and he never changes his voice when he is Bruce Wayne. I know he doesn't care but he should care about people finding out that he is Batman. He also doesn't feel rich, there is really no scene that shows the fact that he is very wealthy. His appearance has Bruce Wayne always feels a little flat

2. Luck and coincidences
For example, after Gill Colson explodes in front of Batman's face (I have no idea why he is so close to a bomb that's gonna explode in seconds, he wouldn't have time cover his face and somehow his face remains clean), the police waited to bring him atop the police station and then starts to question whether they should take his mask off. Lucky him.
And another one which is the biggest sin. In the final riddle, he happens to be helped by a police officer that happens to be there and he also happens to know stuff about carpet which helped Batman to solve the riddle. This is so damn lucky and lazy by the writers. Looks like they got tired making things happen for a reason so instead things just happen because they do. 3. The length
This movie is almost 3 hours long and I think after watching it, you can trim out some bits that isn't really needed (which would prolly be like 10-20 minutes). Some scenes where Bruce is drawing the clues on his floor or scenes where he is walking through the crime scene could be sped up a bit or chopped down cuz it feels long and nothing interesting is really happening. Other than that, it's still an incredible film. My actual score is an 8.8 (very close to a 9) but metacritic includes no decimals so I'm giving it a 9. It's my favorite movies from DC since The Joker and The Suicide Squad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Really great and engaging movie. It takes Batman to a different level from previous movies, the horror batmam, a lot of times we feel the villains fear of batman and in a lot of ways that wasn't repetitive at all, the direction knew how to not get boring with time and it clearly works. This movie got some little jokes too here and there and they work well within the story. We could see a lot of good acting too on this film, although sometimes I wanted to kindaaa laugh when I think I weren't supposed to. VFX were actually great and seamless throughout the movie and made a good experience. Love interest it's ok, I just hated the bike scene in the end, like why, just say goodbye that's enough, but this is truly personal of my way of thinking in direction. Anyway, overall this is a GREAT Batman movie with a new and good take on the hero, some scenes I personally think doesn't work as well as they should or are unecessary. Overall really liked the film Expand

Reeves and Pattinson together have developed a more brooding and vengeful batman who is the most present figure in the movie. Reeves seems much more interested in diving deep into the "Batman" persona fully then trying to balance it out with the seemingly sidelined alter ego of Bruce Wayne. Pattinson shines as well as he can in the new (awesome looking) bat suit, of which he does roughly 85% of his scenes in. Zoe Kravitz did predictably great work in what I ultimately thought was a role and arc that could of used some more development or thought. Major all time batman movie highlights I will remember from this movie include: The Soundtrack, the car chase seen, and the Riddler prison scene. Expand

'Nolan's The Dark Knight was more of a Joker's movie while this movie though has a great antagonist in the form of Riddler it's a Batman movie. The characters of James Gordon, Selina Kyle & Penguin standout and I look forward to seeing more of their character arcs. Pattinson's portrayal of Bruce Wayne isn't quite there yet but he does pull off a good Batman.

Matt Reeves had a great take on the story and this is the best rendition of Gotham we've seen so far outside of comics. My only nitpick is that 'The Batman' movie starts to feel like a slow burner of a movie that ends with a bang but the ending didn't quite hit the home run.

But with the end credits/last scene in Arkham my excitement for the sequel and expectations are sky high! This movie is a must watch even if super hero movies aren't your preference 'The Batman' will still entertain you.

Mercifully there is no social politics or marvel cheese. It just focuses on making a great crime thriller where the lead detective just happens to walk around in a bat suit. Special shout to Michael Giacchino for his brilliant suspenseful score. Absolutely loved it. Expand

PERFECTION
Matt Reeves' "The Batman" is the ultimate comic book movie, thriller movie, action movie, and, in my opinion, movie full stop.

This Batman really embodies the side of the character where he is a myth, a legend, a force to fear. After just two years of taking up the mantle Bruce struggles with the balance of his two lives and it just speaks more to the ending where he finally finds his place as the Batman that he is.
Paul Dano's Riddler is incredible. It is a wildly different take on the character yet keeps his core characteristics. He. Is. Scary.
The music for this movie is Oscar-worthy. It ties all the elements of this movie together and presents the mood very well.
Matt Reeves' cinematography is pure perfection. Every single shot is impactful and beautiful.

"The Batman" is the best movie of all time.

For the first time in a live action version, Batman is the most interesting character. This is a character study on Batman and is far from the usual comic book fare. It is a refreshing direction that is slow and methodical. Though it is technically not an origin story, it weaves the beginning tales of iconic characters masterfully. Robert Pattinson as Batman and Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon specifically were highlights as their partnership was truly believable. Wright’s Gordon in particular felt very world weary as it felt like Gotham was consuming him. That leaves Gotham itself as it can clearly be seen how wretched the city is as it consumes everyone living in it. While the plot has some minor issues and the pacing is not always perfect, this is the best start yet to a new Batman story. I cannot wait to see where Matthew Reeves takes us next. Expand

My faovirte Batman movie yet. This is the kind of Batman movie I've been waiting for my whole life. Like a live-action episode of Batman: The Animated Series.

It's dark and realistic, but also stylish and large-scale. It's not limited by a commitment to realism like the Dark Knight trilogy, nor is it burdened by a shared universe like the DCEU. It is its own thing. A moody, disturbing, visually stunning, David Fincher-inspired, three hour long detective epic with some of the best interpretations of the characters ever put on screen.

Robert Pattinson is fantastic as a younger, moodier, and yes, more emo Batman. Paul Dano is straight up terrifying as the Riddler. Colin Farrell is unrecognisable in more ways than one as The Penguin and Zoë Kravitz is easily my favorite live-action Catwoman.

This movie kept me hooked all the way through, even if I said before, the third act is its weakest part. But that's like saying that the cone is the worst part of an ice cream cone. It's true, but it's still delicious.

This is the best Batman movie. The Dark Knight is good and all, but Reeves finds the perfect mix of gritty realism and style (Nolan would never even dare to have a snorricam shot of Batmam gliding over the city), and finally gives us a live-action Batman that lives up to the title of "World's Greatest Detective". Not that there's much competition, since he's like the only one to actually do any detective work (no, Christian Bale magically finding a fingerprint on a broken bullet doesn't count).

In a lot of ways, this is more like a murder mystery, but the serial killer is an early incarnation of The Riddler (a creepy Paul Dano). Sure, Batman gets to whip out some cool gadgets and kick ass, but this iteration is more about his early inner conflicts and finding his footing in the superhero world. Pattinson is suitably sulky and gloomy (much like his fame-making role in the Twilight series). His romantic connection with Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz) has some intense sparks, but it's really about all the dark criminal elements of the city and when I say dark, almost none of the film is shot in daylight. Director Matt Reeves has created some visually arresting moments, but most of the fights are a blur without much clear action. Surprisingly, at almost 3 hours it never lags, partially because Reeves has managed to keep the interactions compelling. This is a worthy and interesting new take on the legend. NOTE: There's a short, dumb bit at the end, so no need to stay, but take a blacklight and check out the hidden message at the top of the poster. Expand
