Really Damn Good

Easily one of the bigger surprises of the year for me, DreamWorks Animation's heist comedy "The Bad Guys" contains some of the best-looking and most expressive animation you'll see this side of "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," and some ofEasily one of the bigger surprises of the year for me, DreamWorks Animation's heist comedy "The Bad Guys" contains some of the best-looking and most expressive animation you'll see this side of "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," and some of the finest set pieces since that film too. The whole "misunderstood bad guy(s)" trope is certainly not new ground within the realm of animated film (see "Wreck-It Ralph," the "Despicable Me" franchise or even DreamWorks' own "Shrek" quadrilogy for reference), so it's not as if this had a particularly easy task ahead of it in the narrative department (for me, at least). Thankfully, this unique take on the admittedly familiar thematic material, coupled with some disarmingly funny comedic bits littered throughout, was enough to push things into the realm of greatness. I dug the voice cast in this as well and I normally vie against the idea of casting name talent in favor of proper voice actors. Really, though, I think the cast in question suited the overall tone and concept at hand. I really had a great time watching this. A rare, shining example of a well-animated family comedy suited perfectly for both children and adults.… Expand

This had really fluid and action packed animation. Some of the jokes fell flat and the humor was a bit off but there were still some good hits. Brilliant feel good movie that is suitable for all ages and doesn't feel like a kids film.

The story, the characters and the art style is refreshingly good. No political narrative pushed which is definitely a huge plus. The jokes are one of the best compared to the animations I saw in the last couple of years. This is not anThe story, the characters and the art style is refreshingly good. I was honestly shocked to see the ratings on metacritic on this film so I decided to create an account to leave my opinion on this.
I favor this movie over the past 4 Disney films made with 3D animation. I might add that this film is betterI was honestly shocked to see the ratings on metacritic on this film so I decided to create an account to leave my opinion on this.
I favor this movie over the past 4 Disney films made with 3D animation. I might add that this film is better than Zootopia in terms of enjoying this comedically and vividly through what animation is supposed to represent; exaggeration of movement to demonstrate a story.
It could have gone through a much more ambitious message/conflict, but alas... it's a kid's film. EVEN THEN, as an adult, i enjoyed this thoroughly and recommend all to watch this film.
The only issue I'd have with this film is that it didn't 100% dive into the dynamics of each character enough, but if it were to do that, you'd get a 2 hour and 30 minutes film... we don't need another Raya.
I will 100% recommend this film for all kids ages 2 - 16.
(especially if you're trying to get your kids to talk more, for this has a mix of detailed sentencing along with great visualization to keep them interested)… Expand

It holds incredible morals for a developing child such as bullying, stereotyping, etc. The plot has phenomenal flow with each of the characters getting to share the spotlight at one point or another. It’s very much for kids and that’s exactly the target but the humor can also occasionally reach adults as well. The only two downsides to the movie for me is poor pacing and ending wise it’s almost a direct copy of another animal animated film, Zootopia.… Expand

I feel like the main hook of this movie is the stylized animation: A unique hybrid of 3-D and 2-D animation complimented with quick and snappy movements made this movie a treat to behold! For real, I haven't seen an animated film this stylized since "Into the Spider-Verse." One of the rare kids' movies in which the hetero romance characters actually have chemistry and aren't forced together. If they make a sequel (i hope they do) i would be really excited how they would adapt the story of the book sequels; they get up to some crazy stuff (dinosaurs, aliens, ect)… Expand

O grande destaque é ver o salto de qualidade da Dreamwork, visualmente eu diria que esta década de 2020 está em uma evolução bem maior que a Pixar (que aliás, vem decaindo desde sua parceria com a Disney), ainda que o enredo dos seus filmes leve mais para o humor do que para temas mais reflexivos, entrega sempre algo de qualidade e acima da média. Veja no quesito técnico, a animação está realmente bonita, das cores ao enquadramento. As cenas de perseguição de carro podem servir até mesmo para vários filmes de ação que se vê por aí.
Já o roteiro, embora eu tenha achado previsível demais, o problema é que ainda não há um meio termo entre ser bonzinho ou ser vilão, como nos filmes áureos da Pixar. Aqui, tudo é muito caricato, e o roteiro brinca com a expectativa dos grupos, mas não foge à regra da caricatura.
Contando com coadjuvantes simpáticos, e acertando no tom, na duração, na edição e na cor, "Tha bad guys" é mais um acerto do estúdio, que vale a diversão.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The great animation, interesting story changes, and humor throughout the film really make this movie worthy of its 4 nominations. They worked really hard on making the characters' personalities as accurate to the book as they could, and it shows. The only problem I have with it is that they used humans as extras instead of animals, like in the books. Other than that, I recommend watching this movie. 9/10.… Expand

Honestly felt like a movie made just for the fun of making one and I'm completely fine with that cus this was the start of the new Dreamworks renaissance. the animation was good, MOST of the jokes were funny and the idea of them beingHonestly felt like a movie made just for the fun of making one and I'm completely fine with that cus this was the start of the new Dreamworks renaissance. the animation was good, MOST of the jokes were funny and the idea of them being misunderstood because of their species and turning to a life of crime was a good enough plot especially for a kids movie. The only change I would make is that I'd take out all of the fart jokes as those are the only reason I had to say most of the jokes were funny and not all of the jokes were funny. All in all I'd say it was quite a good movie, would watch again.… Expand

This cartoon is very well animated, especially Diana Foxington (she's a cutie). The music and the cast are PERFECTLY matched, I even downloaded this music for myself))
