Just watched this today. Takes me back to the 80s/90s when we had some good fun sci fi. Plenty of laughs to be had throughout as well as some solid action. Achieves what it set out to do.

Great 80's style movie, something from ET, yes it could have been a Steven Spielberg movie... the movie reminded me of my childhood and I love the 80's. Terrible, contrived screenplay and just an unoriginal piece of garage from start to finish. I thought this was going to be a sci-fi movie, but the science is really just in service of an emotional story about love, grief and growing up.

It only barely feels like it was made in lockdown with the small cast and cosy cabins making it feel more intimate than it would have been with if it were made five years ago, which only adds to the sentiment giving it seem real heart.

Reynolds and Levy seem to work well together so I'm looking forwards to what they have next.… Expand

Had fun watching it, no political pandering or preaching.
Just a simple entertaining movie with some light SciFi elements and good actors that isn't part of some mega franchise, that is rare today.

Boring..
Pretty done with Ryan Reynolds acting by now. Guy has no range at all and plays the same dude as in Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place.

Story was.. zzzz. lame.. predictable.. zzzzzz
Almost fell asleep and was scrubbing the last 30 min.

Nice to see a good movie! Lately stuff on Netflix is way below average and I saw a lot of movies in my life.
Here is one that keeps it fresh, good actings, good story and it sends a good positive message.

A fun sci-if/action/adventure version of Disney’s the Kid pretty much. With some similar occurrences of the older and younger version of Adam bonding. There’s plenty of action but a giant heart to the Adam Project as well.

And that is for the simple reason that innovating in this genre has unfortunately become too difficult, and it's very noticeable when it mix in a lot of bits and pieces from other stories in a way that completely fails to establish an identity of its own.

It's very difficult to come up with something that is genuinely good enough to be worthy of your time when the whole balance of your output is between everything you want to be and everything you can copy from somewhere else.

Ryan Reynolds may be very appealing to audiences because audiences clearly show it to him, but it's amazing to see how film after film he demonstrates his total lack of range and just repeats the same funny guy who tries so hard over and over again.
You can also see how his comedic delivery only improves when Mark Ruffalo enters the picture.
That's what happens when a better actor who isn't even breaking a sweat makes him improve what little he can afford as an actor.

Now overlooking most of its flaws, which I have no real interest in enumerating, The Adam Project is the kind of production made to work on streaming to perfection.
It will be more than entertaining for most subscribers, it will be in the top 10 for probably the next two weeks if not more, and it will die in complete silence after that, but if it got you to pay for another month of Netflix, even with its new pricing, boy, did it serve its purpose.

You'll have a good time if you turn off your brain, and it's ok.… Expand

As flyby a movie as I can remember. Nothing is lasting or effective, scenes and plot fast forward to their resolution. Laughable dialogue, Reynolds seemed uninterested throughout.

The movie relies on Ryan performance and this is a good thing. While it might not be tge best sci fi action movie and contain some loophole (like how the hell can they build that kind of jets and plane in 30 yesrs) it is enjoyable and well done.

Whew. Um. Well.

Somehow, it's a typical Ryan Reinolds film without the Deadpool theme. A bit alienating here and there, but mostly still quite charming. Meanwhile, just a little too typical, unfortunately. Even though it has a completelyWhew. Um. Well.

Somehow, it's a typical Ryan Reinolds film without the Deadpool theme. A bit alienating here and there, but mostly still quite charming.

Meanwhile, just a little too typical, unfortunately. Even though it has a completely different theme, the storytelling is comparable to Free Guy and in parts even to Killer's Bodyguard. As in Free Guy, however, Ryan Reinolds again brings in more of himself, which just ends up being this kind of typical film.

From a purely technical standpoint, the film is good to very good. The effects sins cleanly done and logic errors were mostly avoided. There are again some allusions to earlier movies and this time also to Star Trek (even if much more subtle ;)).

Dramatic story twists I couldn't see at least. Not everything was predictable, but the ending was unfortunately one of them. All in all entertaining and well done. If you like Ryan Reinold's explicit, you can certainly get a little more out of the film than I can.

For me it is a solid/good film with a rating of 6 to 7 points.… Expand

Like Shawn Levy's previous Ryan Reynolds effort, "Free Guy," "The Adam Project" exceeds expectations for me, but not in the ways I expected. Where "Free Guy" had much more philosophical weight to it than I thought it would, "The Adam Project"Like Shawn Levy's previous Ryan Reynolds effort, "Free Guy," "The Adam Project" exceeds expectations for me, but not in the ways I expected. Where "Free Guy" had much more philosophical weight to it than I thought it would, "The Adam Project" really brings way more poignance to the table than I was expecting. There are a couple moments of genuine emotional pause spaced throughout the film that help build the thematic backbone at hand. You also have to love seeing Ryan Reynolds taking a moment or two -- however brief they may be -- away from his usual Ryan Reynolds-isms to remind us all of the genuine dramatic talent he has behind that comedic persona we've all come to love over the years. The humor is spotty and there's a de-aging effect that honestly lands somewhere between looking like Clu in "Tron: Legacy" and Voldemort on the back of Professor Quirrell's head in "Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone," but I'm generally inclined to compartmentalize these things in favor of the sense of enjoyment this movie evoked on the whole. Adam Project was a fairly entertaining film. The story is good, especially the jokes and dialogues. The time travel isn't that well presented and lack proper explanations at times. A surprisingly entertaining time travel, sci-fi, popcorn flick with Ryan Reynolds who is still playing himself and a kid, Walker Scobell, who is good at playing a young Ryan Reynolds. The banter between the two is extremely enjoyable and some of the funniest moments in the film. It's not just all comedy though and there are some genuinely moving moments with the dad and mom played by Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner respectively. Likewise, Zoe Saldana gives a strong performance despite her very brief appearance in the movie. Another aspect I appreciate is that the movie doesn't use shaky cam or overly edits the action sequences which is just a blessing on the eyes.

However, the CGI is quite bad and there are a lot of very noticeable green screen. For some reason they also don't use actual explosions but CG explosions which just looks lame. I am also a little annoyed that the 2050 soldiers who have these futuristic guns, yet the bullets still act like a normal modern day gun. Could've tried to be a bit more creative...

Overall, if you want something entertaining to watch for about 100 minutes then this is definitely a good film to watch.… Expand

Walker Scobell did a good job at portraying a young version of Ryan Reynolds. The quips and how they are delivered is exactly how Reynolds does it. Mark Ruffalo is pretty good as well. The emotional beats are definitely very effective at points especially towards the end with the final scene featuring the 3 core characters. Really good scene and really good character work throughout. The actual story here is weak. The time travel made some sense at first but fell apart by the end and besides the characters, there wasn’t anything about the story that stood out. The third act especially is very weak and anticlimactic. There isn’t a strong conclusion and the conflict just kind of ends. There really isn’t a great buildup and that was very frustrating. As strong as some of the characters were, others were pretty bad. Zoe Saldana gives a good performance but her character doesn’t do anything. She is just there to be Reynold’s wife and that’s her only purpose to the story and this isn’t some flashback. She’s essential to the story and then she just kind of leaves. Catherine Keener was a bad villain. Her motivations are confusing and unclear and there isn’t any actual character there. Just a stereotypical villain. This definitely felt like a passion project from those involved but it just need its story to be improved and it would have been great. If you like Ryan Reynolds then you’ll definitely enjoy this but you could probably pass on this.… Expand

I want to like this because I like pretty much everyone in it, but it just comes off as a jumble of sci-fi/action movie tropes. The soundtrack tips you off right out of the gate with The Spencer Davis Group's Gimme Some Lovin. That song hasI want to like this because I like pretty much everyone in it, but it just comes off as a jumble of sci-fi/action movie tropes. The soundtrack tips you off right out of the gate with The Spencer Davis Group's Gimme Some Lovin. That song has been destroyed by movie soundtracks over the years, but it's a keen indicator of lazy, Hollywood writing. Ryan Reynolds and Zoe Saldana shine, as per usual, and if you like Reynolds, you get plenty of him (even an obnoxious younger version of him), but that wears thin. Lots of money spent on CGI (most de-aging Katherine Keener), but it's very haphazard and thrown together.… Expand

Streamers, time travel and movies just seem to be the thing. It feels like a new movie every week deals with time travel. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy this type of Sci-Fi flick but come on! Anyway, this week Netflix released The Adam Project.Streamers, time travel and movies just seem to be the thing. It feels like a new movie every week deals with time travel. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy this type of Sci-Fi flick but come on! Anyway, this week Netflix released The Adam Project. This movie follows a time-traveling pilot as he's forced to team up with his younger self and his late father to come to terms with his past while saving the future. Days of my future's past type of mind meld. If I go back and talk to my past self, does my past become my future's future or my past's future's past?! Oh no, I've gone cross-eyed. Well, let's see how it turns out.

The time travel element of this film isn't as important and I'm kind of glad they just skim over that. My brain is still triggered from the End Game explanation and traumatized from Tenet. More importantly, the time element really creates nice storylines for the characters. Ryan Reynolds and the kid have a really good rapport. Actually, the whole cast had pretty great chemistry overall, which made the movie easy to watch. What also made the movie easy to watch is the dialed back Ryan Reynolds free-for-all, banter comedy. Over the last 7 years, my guy has gone over the top with the first-thing-off-the-top-of-my-head type comedy in Deadpool and then a different direction with the Hitman's Bodyguard stuff. While it can be funny at times, it's just over the top and a bit annoying. Here, while the writing still has that element, it's definitely dialed back for the younger actor and it's appreciated. They found a way to be funny without being over the top or too crass. On a different note, the movie also allowed for the action and storyline to actually be front in center. We had the time travel. We had the hunt for love. We had the redemption story. All of these threads had their moment and were compelling. I'm susceptible to a redeeming-father story but this one with Mark Ruffalo felt really good. Similarly, the chemistry between Reynolds and Saldana also felt really great. The filmmakers of this movie really took care with this production. Even though this wasn't primarily and action flick, the fight scenes were actually pretty awesome. The only knock there is there wasn't enough of the hand to hand combat sequences.

With that said, The Adam Project was a really nice and fresh streaming movie. The cast, writing, and action sequences were done really well. Though this didn't come out in theaters, I wouldn't have been mad if it did. The Adam Project is a film the whole family/anyone can enjoy with a big box of popcorn.… Expand

A beautiful story on the inside. Cinematically it’s shot very well wether it’s on site, green screen or CGI. At first his 12 year old self is a bit unbearable, I’m glad they call it out during the film and we get a heart to heart as to why.

I got enough enjoyment from 'The Adam Project'. It isn't anything special as the film is missing a certain sort of spark to it, though the story is fun and allows for some interesting and ratherA satisfactory flick featuring Ryan Reynolds.

I got enough enjoyment from 'The Adam Project'. It isn't anything special as the film is missing a certain sort of spark to it, though the story is fun and allows for some interesting and rather sweet scenes; the latter is particularly true for the conclusion, which is well produced.

Reynolds himself is solid in the lead role, his performance is more serious than funny but there are still a fair amount of amusing moments for him across the 100 or so minutes. Walker Scobell gives a good showing behind the main man, his comedic timing in the first few scenes really does mirror Reynolds'.

Elsewhere on the cast, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldaña and Jennifer Garner are decent. I will say that I found the antagonists a bit weak in this, I wasn't all that interested in them or their side of the plot. Better villains would've heightened my enjoyment, for sure.

Still, it is a film that I like.… Expand

The action and special effects are well done, but the main characters (both young Adam and 30s Adam) are very annoying. The plot was also all over the place. There were some tender moments which were well done. It's a film.

If you're not expecting an award-winning blockbuster, this movie is actually really good. Great casting, good emotional depth, interesting story. Time travel movies are hard to rate typically. Always so many questions and discrepancies with the space-time continuum. This movie still had a lot of those. Good actors, performances, even the effects look nice, but the plot is just so low effort. The whole time travel concept isn't thought out like BTTF or Endgame. There's a scene where they drive backwards thru a forest and it's just so ridiculous, how fast they go while miraculously not hitting a single tree. There's the reactor breach where some but not all metallic objects are sucked into the reactor, other objects for the sake of the plot since they couldn't write when that made sense, miraculously take longer to be pulled in magnetically. Guns are all apparently made of plastic with magnetized bullets that don't pull on the gun, but once they are fired all of a sudden the magnetic field has an effect on them. Then there's the whole lightsaber thingamajigger, somehow the energized parts just magically vaporize enemies and while the whole vaporizing part is because they're being killed outside of their original timeline, I'm not sure how they die so easily. Then there's the part where Ryan Reynolds is holding on to the energized part swinging it around without anything happening to his hands. It just makes no sense whatsoever.… Expand

This movie should first and foremost be considered a family movie. The action and Sci-fi comes in second hand and yes, if you are expecting an action packed movie or a mind blowing Sci-fi you might get disappointed. The action and Sci-fi comes in second hand and yes, if you are expecting an action packed movie or a mind blowing Sci-fi you might get disappointed. The story focuses on the family and the feelings is what makes this movie special. With Ryan Reynolds as main character you can also expect some typical Reynolds humour together with "young Adam" played by Walker Scobell (who makes an amazing perfomance).

The different "generations" of Adam played by Reynolds and Scobell brings up a lot of emotions, with topics that many of us can relate to. Everything from the death of their dad to deal with the stories you have told yourself in order to explain things. You can expect both laughter and tears from this movie.

I highly suggest to watch this together with the people you hold close.… Expand

Am I unhappy I watched it? No. Would I watch it again, also, no. If there's nothing else on, give it a go, but it's not Reynold's best work, though he is still pleasant.
