This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Movie review: This movie was dull, I was pissed at certain parts and didn’t understand the politics, they didn’t fit they where just smashed in there. A lot of main characters where killed too quick. The acting for leatherface done for leatherface was subpar, he can spin the chainsaw I will admit. The 2 characters idk there names I could care less, but . Are and where not built for the final fight. Seeing sally talk about her revenge gets you hyped, and exited, but she **** freezes and gets killed. Disappointing. But the gore **** horible, The gore caught me off gaurd. Practical affects where used which made it a lot more terrifying. And better Over all , this movie was hyped to be the one to be the best, Bc of all the **** sequels and prequels that have been shown the movie fails to be good and is even worse then the movies it thrived to beat, the movie is a 6.5 out of 10 it’s not the best but if this where ur first Texas chainsaw movie or your a gore fanatic you would like it this is a huge middle finger to the art house of a film that is the first movie. I just watched the Texas chainsaw movie, and all I have to say about it is disgusting, not in the gore sense, but in the sense that if I could use negative numbers on this app, I would. In the first 15-20 minutes of the film, they basically jammed in a number of big social and political topics that America has been divided over or grappling with in recent years, all but a few, and it doesn't do so in a tasteful or even much required manner. I knew as soon as I saw the trailer for Leather Face on the Bus that this movie would be the closest thing to gum on the bottom of my shoe than a real piece of gum on the sole of my shoe I'm not some crazy movie lover or reviewer, but as someone who doesn't have health insurance and pays for Netflix, I'd rather miss a Netflix original than be denied medical care at a health facility. So in some way I do like this movie for helping me escape the shackles of big streaming companies and helping pick my health over Netflix. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. ''Try anything and you're cancelled bro''. Since I saw that part in the trailer, I knew this was going to end very badly. Let's not even mention their attempt to repeat Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween with Sally Hardesty's character returning to hunt down her enemy.
She's been preparing for 40 years and they kill her off in less than a minute. Some **** **** there. Also a buch of mindless teens/adults getting in the middle of **** nowhere to move to a ghost town? Seriously?
Was that the best argument they could come up with?

Forget horror, forget the gore, this was miserable. Absolutely **** miserable. And that ending. Jesus Christ, what an insult. I just hope that post-credits scene with Leatherface returning to the old house from the original film doesn't mean more sequels.
Let this franchise die already for god's sake.

More like 'Texas Cringe Massacre'

This movie was curse from the very start: The original directors were Andy Tohill & Ryan Tohill but the studio fired the two after not being impressed with what was shot, the movie had a terrible test screening, the trailer looked awful, and it didn't get a single review until the day of its release, which is a tell-tale sign it's not very good.

And it isn't.

I'm honestly curious what The Tohill brothers had in mind for this movie. Because if the studio said no to them but were somehow impressed with this garbage.

They knew I was nervously excited for it. We all went in with low expectations. We said that it likely would be a 5 out of 10; me saying haphazardly that it could be a 6... How wrong we all were. This was an aggressive waste of time and we decided to switch it off when it still had little over 10 minutes to go. By then we all had lost any hope and knew watching anymore would have just been irritating. Sure, its got gore if that's all you care about. However if you are interested in a well thought out plot, any well developed characters or something scary. This can only serve to dissapoint. Its not even so bad it's good, its just bereft of anything good. There was one scene which a character could have EASILY killed leatherface but no, nope... They don't cause the writers wanted to flesh out this garbage awhile longer and they lack the ability to justify any of the slop you are witnessing make any sense.

If somebody tells you this is a good movie, they simply can't be trusted. This is a clear cut case of personal opinions being invalid, when you are dealing with somebody who says says this is worth your time. Because one thing we can all agree on, is nobody enjoys stepping on a pile of dog s..t, so why would we listen to somebody that does enjoy this? You wouldn't, you wouldn't trust their opinion, why would you? This is a cinematic failure.

This new version is the 9th incarnation. It takes place 50 years later, when a group of twenty-somethings visit the hometown of the legend. The plot follows the usual line: a few minutes of creepy scenarios to set expectations, then an all-out gore fest. Since the outcome is obvious, it's about what new, vicious ways the killings go down. Unlike the original (the details of the vicious attacks were implied), this new one revels in bloody brutality. Those who enjoy seeing people viciously murdered will discover some new angles, but there's little tension or originality to make the carnage distinctive. These legacy sequels in long-running franchises that retcon all of the other previous follow-ups inexplicably having the same name as the original film they're intended to serve as a direct continuation of. Seriously, I'm SUPER excited to now have the exact problem with Texas Chainsaw that I do with Halloween, where when I tell people I've watched it they have to ask "which one?" because they don't know if I'm talking about the first, the reboot/remake, or the "new one." For real, when this inevitably happens again for something like, I don't know, Friday the 13th or A Nightmare on Elm Street would it kill someone involved to come up with a subtitle to help avoid confusion please?

Anyways, as for the actual quality of this thing, the whole point of these projects is to sort of course correct a brand that, after getting off to a fantastic start, gradually lost its way with each passing installment. With that being the case, you'd think this would have done a better job of not repeating the mistakes of the prior successors. Yeah, Tobe Hooper's classic was a sick, twisted little film, but what makes it so uncomfortable for so many even after all these years is more than just the torment its characters suffer. It's the underlying context of the deranged lunacy and savagery lurking on the fringes of society. At least as far as I've seen, everything that followed managed to overlook that while going heavy on the blood and violence. Exactly like this does.

Still, while it misses what should have been the whole point of its creation, it's hard to fault this too much as a slasher. It's about as deep as a puddle and brings nothing terribly creative to the table, but it's got the gore, grime, and a few entertaining scenarios. Honestly, the aspect that's going to bug people the most is the new political tinge. The movie blatantly acknowledges the U.S.' present day struggle between warring ideals of change and keeping with the status quo. There are those who are going to take issue with how the protagonists mock conservatives for their guns, Confederate flags, and vehicular emissions. Meanwhile, others will be bothered by how most of the victims are socially progressive, cancel culturing liberals. There's enough here for you to come up with your own take on whether this leans more to the right or the left. Personally, I think it delivers an "everyone sucks" mentality and ridicules both halves. So what people will find offensive is that it doesn't pick a side. Their side.

Ultimately, this effectively fails to pay homage to the 1974 version's legacy. Yeah, they brought its heroine Sally back, but couldn't recapture its meaning or significance. Instead simply giving viewers another generic slaughter flick to add to the pile. Not entirely an awful thing as it means there are still a nice amount of grisly thrills to enjoy, but if you've been fed up with everything else this property has offered over the past two or so decades then this is entirely skippable.

The lighting, framing, composition, camera motion and camera angles are top notcht, they really add to the plot by creating such an unique ambiance. The movie chooses to emphasize the victims's role, and in a very specific case their background story, even if not fully explored, rather than Leatherface's, who seems to have a more secundary role in the plot. The hate towards this movie is moved by its inconvenient social commentary. If on the one hand the "woke brigade" can get easily pissed by the most evident satirical moments presented here, on the other, the ignorant righties may fail to understand the satire itself. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a good motion picture, even if the plot could use a better and far deeper character development. Expand

None of which play a role in the events of the film so why they're featured so heavily early on? Your guess is as good as mine. However, This confusing aspect of the film highlights what I feel were a lot of this behind the scenes issues in this oddly short (under 90 minutes) film.

This movie is as uninspired and bare-bones as you can get with virtually no plot and no substance. The characters are generic and forgettable despite the cast's attempts to deliver something onscreen. The gore is reduced to this CG mess on par with what Texas Chainsaw 3D had to offer, It was an utter eyesore at times, and it kind of takes you out of the movie. I also absolutely hated what they did to Sally (the final girl of the original film) as she is reduced to this watered-down version of Laurie Strode from Halloween 2018.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022 is just a mess of ideas in a pathetic excuse for a plot that does nothing but reminds people why they should stop bothering trying to remake/reboot it. At least the "bad" films of the franchise tried to be somewhat different. This one is too bland and too forgettable.

Either you will think that this is exploitative flick or a pretty good, tense and gory 're-quel' from the mind of 'Don't Breathe'. It's a short film that can live very well on Netflix.

Honestly, I don't understand all of the hate here. I give it a 6/10. My scale is that anything above a 5 is something I'd consider rewatching in the future.

I felt having the OG (recast) final girl was unnecessary but not overly distracting. Personally, if I were a part of the creative team behind this movie, I wouldn't have included her since the original actress passed away.

Yes, there was "wokeness" and it was initially quite cringe-inducing. However, all/most of these characters that get brutally murdered at some point in the film. So - doing my best not to sound like a psycho here but - shouldn't these people be finding enjoyment in "woke" characters being killed off? It's almost like these negative reviews didn't finish watching the movie.

It's been a while since I watched the original. I recall not being overly impressed. I rationalized my reaction to being similar to Blair Witch Project. It was probably terrifying in theaters, but misses the mark on home video. Still, I respect it's place in horror cinema history. Therefore, I was a bit upset more members of the family weren't included - or at least referenced, given the timeline - and that there wasn't a more dirty/gritty feel to the movies which was the one thing from the original that was quite shocking to me on my first watch.

Still, I found myself enjoying the movie more than expected. Leatherface was the star. Fun/creative kills and set pieces. Lots of blood/gore without going to gore-sploitation levels that tend to turn me off of some horror films.

Qualidade de produção boa... Mas entrega desapontamento, desgosto... Insatisfação... É um clássico filme dos anos 80... Se for essa sua espectativa vai atender... Esperavamos muito mais. Não espero que gastem energia com uma continuação

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A beautiful work of bloodstained art. What seemed at first to be a underhanded slap in the face to "middle America" turned out to be a entrail laden slasher masterpiece. With solid casting pretty good performances and TOP NOTCH special effects and cinematography. It's The anti VVitch and is better for it. This is not "elevated horror" This is Texas Chainsaw Massacre Expand

Its a slasher movie, what do you think you're going to get?
Full of clichés and stereotypes.
Digitized violence so absurd all you can do is laugh at it. The actors are awful, they all fall into the various boxes. The "Hot Girl" isn't hot.

The "Hot Girl" isn't hot. The mysterious, gun-toting tough guy is there, the token black guy gets it. The tom-boy is suitably androgynous. The annoying know-all is there until the end. You've got a Tesla, diesel smoke spewing Dodge Ram. Millennials and influences.
Its not remotely scary. The classic Leatherface look is far more menacing.
Spent a portion of it clipping my nails without a worry of missing anything.
Everyone dies.
Auto-Pilot Engaged.

Just watch the original. It’s a film you have to see… Not because it’s an amazing film, it just has a real visceral feel to it and actual terrifying scenes. This film has absolutely nothing in common and frankly, just needs burying.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was really glad that that little sh*t melody died at the end. God I hated her throughout the movie. All of the characters are just bad, they're all the stereotypical GenZ, if thats what they were going for then they nailed it! If not, these characters are just bad. Other than the horrible characters, the whole movie is predictable and follows the same general formula of horror movies. Don't watch this sh*t unless you have absolutely nothing else to do. Expand

It is more like a slasher film than the original which is good. The pace is fantastic, there is not a boring moment. I would not necessarily agree with all the directorial decisions - most notably the massacre itself. Whilst I appreciate the massacre it felt rushed and not as violent or intense as it should have been, quite probably because the only joke in the film comes in this scene with the generation Z group vlogging the massacre. I also still find it strange that the best chainsaw violence comes in Dawn of the Dead (2004) and deleted scenes in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986). Other than that poor decision I would say that it is really well directed. Great production values, great first half, entertaining slasher, some inconsistent decisions in the latter half. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unequivocally a horror of schoolboy filmmaking. It’s only saving grace is it’s love letter to gore (albeit a letter constructed by a child with underlying issues). The characters are forgettable, their relationships superfluous and the plot inexplicable. With the direction to match. In a film so desperate to be accepted in the genre it’s no surprise that everyone dies, comes back for one last hurrah and dies again. Every character’s storyline is unfulfilling and this film is just a collection of awful anti-climaxes. Awarded with a 1 for effort like a child you feel sorry for. Expand
