I watched it yesterday and was really surprised how well the movie handles the different time travel, alternate timelines so that it actually makes sense. Emilia Clarke owned her role. Arnold didnt say much, but the few funny lines and gestures he provides are classic Schwarzenegger. Great action scenes, although i wouldnt recommend paying extra for 3D- it looked great, but the movie did fine without it. Expand

They were plentiful, and many were subtle. Some major events, such as the scene in the trailer where Sarah rescues Kyle Reese and the old T-800 versus the new T-800 were obviously not subtle. But they were awesome to watch, to remember those moments from T1 and see how they've changed their path due to more time traveling events since T2. The less subtle ones were enjoyable as well, however. And I don't think the average watcher of Genisys will catch even half of the subtler ones (such as a thumbs up from the old T-800 to Sarah Connor-- this is the last thing she saw of the Arnold's T2 character, as he was lowered into the steal; as well as throwbacks to T2's Terminator arm.

The story: This is easily the best plot from a Terminator movie since T2. It twists and turns but never leaves you confused. It's extremely creative, extremely engaging, and just good writing. I never felt like it was juggling too many things at once. The pacing was not only perfect, but the sequences played out very much like the Terminator movie it is. You can easily compare T1 and T2 (even T3's) structure to T5’s structure, which helps with that nostalgia and with giving you the same feelings of tenseness, curiosity, awe, and appreciation for the cleverness as when you watched the first two. Though, of course, T1 and T2 are superior films, no matter how engaging Genisys is. But I expected that. The time travel twist when Kyle goes back, what he sees, how that affects the path of this movie, was done very well, leading to unexpected turns in the plot. The actors' chemistry with each other all worked out very well, though Arnold is the obvious standout and draw.
Action and FX: Top notch for the most part. There was one scene with a Hunter-Killer (future helicopter things you see in all Terminator films) that was very obviously CGI. The Young Terminator CGI was seamless. The entire Terminator series is well-known for its practical (real-world, non-CGI) effects, and T5 delivers on that as well as any of the movies in the franchise. Some of the critics mentioned there were no memorable set pieces in the film. After watching T5, I have to wonder whether those critics watched the same movie I did. There were several memorable set pieces, environments that were essentially a 'character' within the film. This was true of T1 and T2, obviously: the Tech Noir night club (Sarah's first encounter with the two time travelers), the CyberDyne building and the steel mill in T2, and many I won't list here. But T5 had set pieces that were just as memorable. People gasped several times at how the action played out in these environments.
Humor: I think this movie had a little less humor than T2, though more than T1. There weren't really any hugely stand-out lines (besides the ones we've all come to expect), though "I've been waiting for you" is very satisfying to hear, and "Old, not obsolete" line was implemented well. Much of the comedy comes from Arnold's T-800 portrayal as he struggles to seem more human, which was, of course, the well the humor in T2 pulled on so successfully.
3D: I watched it in 3D, and I and those that went with me enjoyed it as well. I was glad to have experienced my first 3D Terminator film, that it was done well.
Dialogue/script: Not perfect, but nowhere near as campy as T3. T5 takes itself seriously, unlike T3. T1 and T2 are better than T5, and I think that's largely because they were exactly what Cameron intended them to. The twists were great, the storyline was great. They leave a couple things hanging, hoping this movie is a success and there will be two more. I'd honestly be happy with it ending here. Things were wrapped up very nicely besides some minor cliffhangers, sort of the way T2 ends on a dark road and an unknown future.
Verdict: I need to rewatch this film to decide exactly how it stacks up to T1 and T2. It was a fun thrill ride with some really interesting plot points that really furthered the Terminator narrative in a way that T3 and T4 never came close to achieving. For reference, I would give T1 a 9.5 (mostly due to limitations in technology in 1984), T2 a 10, T3 a 6, and Salvation a 5. If I had to take a guess on this one without a repeat viewing, I'd give it between an 8.5 and a 9 (I shamelessly gave it a 10 here after seeing 6.2 average). It was better than I expected after the weak critical reviews. It surprised me, it made me smile, laugh, sit on the edge of my seat, root for the heroes while trying to understand the opposition. The film paid great homage to the first two without leaving the audience feeling like T1 and T2 weren't important due to the changes made in the timelines of T5.
If there's a sequel... well, I'll be back. Though, the future is not set.
No fate but what we make.

This plot combines several periods and characters to confuse a plot that really doesn't matter. We're really watching for 2 things: cool effects and amazing action. There's lots of the molten metal that we've seen before (yawn) and the new regeneration effect is not exceptional or eye-popping. There's lots of fighting and gunplay, but most of it's unoriginal and unexciting. Arnold Schwarzenegger is back doing most of the heavy lifting and cracking some lame new jokes. While the pace only lags for a few boring dialogue moments, nothing about the conflicts or concepts is unique, thrilling or special. NOTE: Stay thru the early credits for a teaser. Expand

Shame there was only 15 minutes of the future war. However, the actor they got to play Kyle Reese was not suited to the role. His stale and lifeless acting would have better been suited to the role of the t-1000.

The alternate timeline characters were not really developed well, I didn't end up caring about the characters as much as I did about the ones in the first and second movie. I ended up thinking the t-3000 had more personality than Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor , combined...

I did come to a realization from the movie, though. Genisys is an operating system to sync up various forms of social media, everything on one platform. Apple products are the same way, social media and devices. Skynet is a Mac!

It's not a terrible movie, but its not great. Its better than salvation but worse than t3... Terminator genisys is, to the terminator franchise, to what the sega cd was to the sega genesis, life support for a dying product (pun intended).

As a result,A sequel/reboot to the franchise that ultimately fails to capture the magic of the originals. The magic of the time-traveling, sci-fi series isn't quite captured here as the story and changes to the timeline go under-explained. As a result, the whole thing feels convoluted. At least the action is solid.

The story and characters are really the problem here. Unfortunately both of those elements have always been a big part of the series. When the story isn't making a mess of the timeline, it's hitting many all too familiar beats. The recreation of scenes from the first two movies early on are pretty cool to watch. These references add a nice bit of nostalgia to keep you going. The problem is that the movie doesn't borrow enough from it's predecessors, and too much from the average, generic action-flick.

Perhaps the whole thing would have been more interesting had the characters been better. Unfortunately series favorites have been reduced to generic character types played by subpar actors. Jai Courtney proves once again to be competent, but strangely unlikable. Same can be said for Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor. Schwarzenegger is the highlight. He's always stolen the show in these movies, but he's always been surrounded by a great cast as well. Outside of Jason Clarke that isn't so much the case here. He's the best actor onscreen, and he is unfortunately underutilized in favor of stale moments between Reese and the Connor's.

There are reasons to watch it though. On the action side of things it fares much better. Granted, it never reaches the heights of the original films, but there is a satisfying amount of explosions and gunfire. Enough to keep things watchable and at least mindlessly entertaining throughout it's runtime. Even with his age watching Arnold slamming through walls and clashing with other Terminators is a blast. The man is still the best action star out there in my opinion.

Had the overall conflict been better written and the cast been strong enough to back up the flashy action the movie could have been a worthy successor to the series. As it stands it's a flawed, but solid action film with a few good references to the originals and some entertaining action throughout. While it is far from another strong entry in the series, it is a solid action movie worth a watch for longtime fans of the series just to see what has to offer and what it means for the future of the series. For everyone else it's just a generic, but pretty entertaining action film worth a rental and a watch on a rainy day. It's just a shame it doesn't offer much more overall.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I would have liked this movie a lot better if they didn't turn John Connor into an evil person. Couldn't they come up with another villain and another angle on the story? For instance, seeing the same familiar story change completely because of one thing disrupting whatever happened in a previous movie, giving the same set of circumstances a completely different outcome the heroes have to overcome. I did like the operating system angle. That almost accomplished an interesting angle until John turned bad. So many other more interesting angles could have been used. But, as usual, the effects are great and the movie was entertaining, except for the bad John. Jason Clarke is excellent, but I want him to stay the hero. Our technology being the villain where people misuse it would have been a better focus. That would be very thought provoking because it could happen. Expand

People really need to stop comparing sequels with their predecessors. Sure this continuation isn’t as great as T2, but that doesn’t necessary mean that this movie sucks! Which is sadly does to at several occasions.

+ Fun connection with the old movies, an awesome opening scene, much humor (much more than the previous movies), great action-sequences (even though they aren’t that unique) and great actors. Emilia Clarke and Arnold did a really great job, they both blend perfectly into their characters. The non-linear storytelling was a big surprise in my opinion, because I did expect a bad reboot of the exact same story we saw in the old T-movies. But it wasn’t bad, yes it might be a bit too complex and it did become confusing but I really enjoyed the more complex and surprisingly great plot of the movie. The music is great, but there’s no feeling in it, it could have been better. The last great aspect is that it really is an unpredictable movie, and it did surpass my expectations!

Yes, it’s no T2. But it’s no Salvation either. Sure the old and more scary theme, that we saw in T1-T3 sure is gone; Genesis didn’t feel scary or as thrilling as the old movies. But it got its great aspects as previously mentioned, but it really isn’t a flawless movie!

- Confusing and odd storytelling made me feel left out of the movie (but still great because I like movies that need the audience to think). The trailers ruined the movie like hell too, I’ve never seen a movie that have been spoiled so greatly like Genisys. Almost every action-sequence throughout the movie have already been seen, what a waste! Sure there are some surprises here and there, but there could have been so much more if the trailers hadn’t spoiled so much! Another bad aspect is the story, some events are a bit illogical, they doesn’t fit the original characters in the old movies. The ending could also have been better, more developed and better written. Other smaller aspects are; lack of great CGI at certain places, and perhaps too many villains (but great villains!) at once. It did feel pointless sometimes, the villains were defeated so easily meanwhile the previous movies got a hard time doing just that. Genisys really did ruin the villains, they don’t feel like a threat, the scary feeling we got from T2 with the T-1000 is totally gone. Thank you Genisys.

Terminator Genysis is a movie full of flaws. I’m a bit confused due to many great, but also bad things with this movie. The humor and the action is the best things, but the villains, the trailers and the lack of terminator entertainment that we saw in T2 isn’t here anymore. But it’s not a bad movie. Sure it does stand out from the original movies, but guys; it’s a reboot and it’s a fun ride of action and humor. Don’t listen to the bad critics and don’t expect a great Terminator movie, go into the theaters or your living room and watch this insanely great action flick!

Terminator Genisys surely is overwhelmed with serious flaws.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What is wrong with the "professional" reviews?Such a bad score? Why?I saw a review of this movie on YT from Angry Joe.He likes most of the time the same things i like and he said "great movie".So i went into a theatre. My friends saw prof. reviews and were already **** about that movie. No wonder after the last 2 **** movies. But here? Its a great movie! Why?Lets see:

Visuals:The 3D is a money-waster.Its always a waste of money if the movie isnt made for 3D like avatar.
Sadly enough no theatre in my town shows this movie without 3D.Some effects look ok but most of the time you can take off your 3D glasses and its fine. After the movie i had a massive headache and my eyes hurt too.Never had that before. But if i ignore that fact the visuals are ok, sometimes even great.Think about it that way:The second movie looks still great today. It was a masterpiece of its time and thats why it looks still good.Maybe thats the reason why some people are not that satisfied. They think its 2015/2016 and the movie needs to look MUCH better. No, it needs to look good and deliver a good vibe and i think it did that. When the movie starts its the future-time.Massive CGI scenes with great looking terminators.Big fights with lots of equipment.Much better when you compare it to the last movie.Make-up and stuff is ok to great too.

Sound:I dont know if this is the fault of the theatre i visited(was the first time). The sound was not that "hard".I missed bass when something explodes or when a gun fires.Besides that it was okay.Music is ok, i miss some of the old themes.I think they should have used old assets just for the feeling.

Story:The story is well explained. They use some time to explain the future for example, they tell some lore and some jokes. The jokes are all spot on.Never too seriously, some are a reference to the first too movies.I laughed some times, thats ok.The characters are well written with one exception:Kyle!I dont know why he is such a **** an expierenced soldier from the future but later in the movie hes just a **** and not cool. Many might complain there are some holes in the story.Yes and i like that. Its on purpose for the next movies and you feel that when they ask some questions.Like "who send back the terminator to save sarah??".Nobody knows, its a mystery even when the movie is over.If they do something with this plotholes it might turn out great over the next movies. If not the fanbase will be pissed.

Acting:Emilia Clark is great!Shes the right choice.Arnold is really funny and delivers the hole time ths presence.

Conclusion:If you ignore the last 2 movies this is a great third movie after the great first movie and the masterpiece Terminator 2.For me the movie is between T1 and T2.ot as good as the second movie. But thats ok, the second movie is still a masterpiece in many aspects.I recommend this movie to everyone!

This one quite cleverly riffs off the single biggest flaw in the logic of the Terminator franchise, namely: couldn't they just keep sending more and more Terminators back in time to ensure success?

The cleverest bit - and the main joy, to be honest - is seeing scenes from the first Terminator play out similarly, but with slight twists...e.g. the cop who stalks Kyle Reese in the clothing store is now a cop-impersonating T1000, a la Robert Patrick in Terminator 2.

In other words: this film is a kind of sly "parody" of the first two films, and your enjoyment of it will rely almost entirely on whether you can go along with such a premise. It's certainly well-made for what it is, and a bit of a "hoot" for fans with a sense of humour. It's also one of the better films in the franchise, all things considered, though the second half definitely demands more "suspension of belief" than is humanly possible. File under "fun, but entirely inessential".

The plot of the movie plays out a little bit like the "Star Trek" reboot. Time has been altered, so we have new actors playing old characters in a new story. The weird part her is the amount of time travel. This could have been a parody film.

The action is classic terminator. Humans have to waylay robots with crude 1980s weapons and vehicles to even hope to survive. Arnold is classic Arnold, only older. Digitally recreated Arnold is amazing and puts Terminator 4 to shame. Some of the effects gags were stolen from other films, but that might be a sign of my age. When you have seen decades worth of films, they all start to blend together.

My big beef is with Kyle Reese. In the original "Terminator", he was a battle hardened vet on a suicide mission. In "Genisys", he is a young adult heart throb. He was so out of character I thought maybe he was a secret Terminator.

Finally, you have to start putting aside all of the stupidity in this film. There are too many trips to police stations. An electronic intelligence wouldn't want to set off a worldwide nuclear powered EMP pulse. They still don't explain how a computer program makes the terminators. The best it could do is take over 3D printers and make little plastic Terminators. I made the stupidity part of the fun.

No wonder you put the upcoming Marvel director to direct this movie, I mean you guys should be aware if someone from Marvel direct your favorite movie #justsaying. So, the movie was really about Disney futuristic love kinda thing.

Above all, the way terminator has become so liquid metal, it'sbecoming not gory movie, that's how people so upset. I mean, "Hey! It's about Terminator, we're not wanting this kind of so sweet-chat two lovers." Yeah, people hate it because it has MARVEL level.
But, anyway if we put the 'thing' separate from the whole plot, it's actually a smart plot and great directing. I love how the whole actions remind me of Jurassic Park *can it be Spielberg behind of this movie?*
The action also brilliant *besides the trailers problems*. I didn't watch the trailer at all, just a teaser then I stop. I've been there when those so many trailers for one movie releasing and cost me to see much spoiler. So, it's absolutely the advertisement fault.
Well, because I didn't fall to those much trailer spoilers, I really enjoyed this movie. It has fresh story about Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor, and of course, our beloved John Connor.... that mostly I respect this movie writer and director to give a brilliant conclusion for John Connor's fate. It's brilliant, lets face it. It's just less gory.
I tweeted, "#TerminatorGenisys I am glad I've watched Predestination, Spaceballs, Free Birds, and HISHE Terminator Back to The Future. #justsaying."
It has funny script, yes. I like Kyle Reese version from Jai Courtney, Sarah Connor version from Emilia Clarke, and *damn* I really want the sequel because our beloved Dr. Who is tricking me! I want the sequel for him!

So, please, please if they want to make a sequel, just, just don't reshuffle the cast. It's not Spider-Man, right? Just, stop change the casts!

This movie is for fans. But also not that bad for fresh audience. For me as a fan - 8/10, for others as just another sf action movie - 7/10.

It is impossible to make a new T2. We were ten years old back then. Get over it.

I don't know what do people expect.

There is one thing I really missed from this movie: A original Gn'R track "You Could be mine" should be on that tape player, instead of that lame imitation.

Basically bad fan-fiction - that pretty much says it all.

If you can't do an action film with a good story at least have one that doesn't get in the way of the action. Terminator: Genisys does the cardinal sin here. Instead of being merely forgettable the story actually makes you stop and think - wait, this makes no sense. So you can't even enjoy it as a dumb popcorn flick.

There were some genuinely funny bits in this film, but as I write this merely a day after having seen Terminator: Genisys there is nothing memorable that sticks to my mind. With a 26% score on Rotten Tomatoes I expected it would have at least something in the film to hate and rant about it but the film is entirely forgettable.

Other reviewers have remarked that Arnold Schwarzenegger was the best part of the movie and I would have to agree with that opinion. Here he was a lot more interesting than in Terminator 3 and if you are a fan of that character you might be interested in seeing this film. But for fans of the Terminator series I would not recommend this film. Especially if you, like me, loved the second film.

Less darker than the other four installments, several twists are easily predicted and there is obviously a number of flaws and time paradox when the story progresses but the film is still an entertaining generic sci-fi. The scores of the film composed by Lorne Balfe are rather weak even though co-produced by Hans Zimmer, the performance of Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese is just alright, Arnold as T-800 is still the most entertaining element of the franchise with his fights and adorable robotic expressions but the pacing of the script has caused the lack of emotional engagement with Sarah Conner (Emilia Clarke). James Cameron says that this film is respectful to his first two installments back in 1984 and 1991 but action sequences are nothing new, CGIs do not improve much from previous installments and the visual effects seems a bit video game setting have overall disgraced his compliment. He's back...almost.

Terminator: Genisys takes place in the year 2029, John Connor leads the resistance of man against Skynet and an army of machines, but as he readies a plan to save the past from this devastating future - Skynet rewrites history with their own plan - one that targets Connor in the past and present - and he may not be able to survive an assault on both fronts.

I had my doubts with Genisys ever since the title of the movie "Genisys" wasn't such a great title and the fact that the teaser trailer for the movie gave away the biggest plot twist in the movie, I mean the trailer showed way too much and spoiled the film for me. The other thing that made me less exciting for the movie is the fact that movie is saying that the first and second movie never happened and this is the true Terminator movie, f**k this I thought. My hope for this movie for being decent slowly went down as every time I hear some news from the movie is it's something to do with the cast or the little plot rumors.

But after seeing the movie it isn't all that terrible as I thought it was going to be, but it's not great.

Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as are favorite robot bad-ass and he brought he's one liners. Arnold is the most likable bad actor of all time and his slowly turning into an action hero icon. In this movie he once again nails it as the fearless but likable Terminator. I can't imagine anyone else playing the Terminator but only Arnold because it's the right role for him because well Arnold can play a robot really well and he's not even acting. Awesome work Arnold.

T-1000 is back in this movie but not for very long and it did feel out of place for T-1000 to be there, it like the film makers just threw him in there to remind you of T2, but I got to say that the run time of his screen time is the most enjoyable part of this movie. What the movie did well is making the T-1000 scary and dangerous again just like in T2, I mean T-1000 is the best villain in movie history and I'm happy they didn't screw the character up. Now after thinking about it and I did enjoy the T-1000 in the movie, but I have to admit the T-1000 didn't really need to be in this movie, I mean he's screen is very short and he wasn't very useful to the story; he was just throw there just to start the next action screen. If they just cut him out of the movie it wouldn't have made no difference at all and it wouldn't really effect the story. Now to those who haven't seen the movie and wondering why the T-1000 is in the movie well it's because I guesting he's been hunting down Sarah Conner maybe? but in the movie you first see the T-1000 designed up as a police officer driving around the dark streets like most officers do when it's night time to protect the streets at night, but anywhere he came across Kyle Reese as he steals a homeless mans cloths. Anyone remember in the original when Kyle was chase by that police officer in the opening well here it's changed because Kyle knocks him over and ask what year is is and T-1000 attacks him just like that. Okay here's the thing how did it know it's him? I mean you could think they sent another one back in time to hunt both of them down, but Skynet doesn't know that Kyle Reese is the father of John Conner or even know what he looks. I mean if it's been waiting how did it know that's the spot he's going to jumped off at, what if Kyle landed somewhere else? I know I went there and it may seem pointless to some but I seriously needed to get that out there somehow. Some people tell me to just enjoy the movie and don't think about stuff like that, well that's want some lazy moviegoers say just because they can't think themselves.

The one last thing that I can say positive about this movie is the fact that it's much better then Terminator 3. Now I don't hate this movie, I actually think it's a okay movie now keep that in mind, but now I'm getting into the problems and it's going to sound like I'm hating on this movie but keep in mind this is the stuff that bugged and why it bugged me.

Now I got nothing against Jai Courtney, I bet he's a nice guy in real life, but he is seriously not a good actor at all and him playing Kyle Reese was a huge miscast. At times I kept thinking he was a robot because of how robotic and wooden he was as a actor. I really don't get why he's getting such big roles in big movies, I mean the guy is not good at all.

Now another miscast was Emilia Clarke as Sarah Conner. She didn't do a terrible performance such as Jai Courtney, but all of her senses were quite cringe worthy and really awkward. There were scenes in this movie were Emilia almost did a good Sarah Conner but those scenes don't really last long. She's good in Game of Thrones but here she didn't really wow me in her performance.

The story and the writing were pretty messy. I mean this movie tries to improve things with the Terminator timeline by filling in the plot holes and the gaps, but it made things a lot worse and more confusing as this movie as more plot holes then the other Terminator movies. The movie is trying to redone the first and second movie by saying it never happened as the timeline as changed, but the real question is why change the first movie and the squeal? Leave those two movies alone. Why can't they do a Day of Future Past on Terminator 3, I would have been fine with that and it would have been a sorry letter to the fans of last two movies, but changing 1&2...no.

The actions scenes in the movie were fine and entertaining enough, but it didn't really wow me that much. It's mostly quick cuts and some of the action has been shown too much in the trailer so I wasn't all that trilled to see them as every clip and trailer showed most of the action scenes. The action isn't terrible but it was decent.

They where scenes in the movie were the re-create some scenes from the 1984 Terminator movie and it didn't really feel right. It felt weird and not the good weird.

Oh and Matt smith is in the movie...for six minutes and that's it.

Overall Terminator: Genisys has it's pros and it's cons. I say it's better than Terminator 3 but Terminator 2 still knocks this movie out of the park and still will be the classic 90's action film.

The best part of the movie and what takes it to a whole new awesome level is Arnold Shwarzenegger, who returns to the leading role as a real bad ass. Also Jason Clarke is outstanding and Emilia Clarke does a wonderful job at portraying the famous Sarah Connor.Despite the hate,I think that Jai Courtney was fine as Kyle Reese too.
The visuals were truly awesome too,and they stand out on the breath taking action scenes, which are truly something incredible and well done.Add there the great score by Lorne Balfe and Brad Fiedel, and you get this amazing movie filled with awesome sequences that stand out and are very memorable.
Now while the story is not great and it does have some plot holes especially connecting to the old movies, they take away little here as everything else is very well done.
I liked the way that John Connors character is done,as he has the right motivation and the perfect actor to portray that to us,in a way that we buy and enjoy it.
I loved the end battle and that whole scene,I liked the villains motivations and the way it was written, and the way the movie concluded it was very satisfying.
I truly think that this is the perfect start to what is hopefully the start of a new trilogy that is to come very soon with sequels that are as good as this.

Emilia Clark as Sarah Connor was a bad impression on Linda Hamilton's character. The VFX of T-1000 looks no different and nit advanced and looks same as T2 which was almost 20 years back! The humour was so bad at this movie. Jai Courtney did a terrible job being Kyle Reese. He had no expressions on his face. On the other hand there were some positive aspects to it too. Arnold was the best thing in the whole movie. Jk Simmons character had a good potential and was wasted. The war scenes looked great better than salvation. Matt smith's character was really interesting but didn't show enough. The action scenes were sort off entertaining.

In the end terminator genisys is an another wasted opportunity . People who haven't seen 1and 2 will definitely love the movie. As of the hard core fans of T1 and T2 we just have to wait for a few more years for James Cameron to get the rights back.

This movie doesn't tread along the lines of mediocre, yet it lacks what made Terminator so good. It feels as though it was made by Michael Bay. Too much explosions and action to make it what made Judgment Day the best. The CGI was definitely worthy and good. Bad at some moments during action sequences, but overall it was brilliant. Yet it ruined the movie a slight, because it gave the movie less of a real feeling. The helicopter flying was obviously CGI and in Judgment Day, the helicopter flying was REAL. That's what made those scenes so good, was the fact it was REAL.
The story just screwed everything up, adding an alternate timeline. It messed up the ages, dates, and events. It pretend as though Rise of the Machines and Salvation never happened. There was plot holes here and there, many things weren't fully explained. The whole alternate future part of the movie overstayed its welcome. The movie dragged out too long. It would've been better to enhance the story and make it longer, then split it into a part 1 and a part 2. It felt rushed along to fit everything in.
The casting I felt was average. They did good for Sarah Connor and of course having Arnie return. Kyle Reese and the T-1000 weren't the best of choices. John Connor was good the 2nd half of the movie and gave off a lame vibe the 1st half. None were bad actors to say, but they didn't fit the roll that well. Kyle Reese looked nothing like Michael Bien. And well John Connor looks different all the time, but the actor didn't fit the roll.
I found myself shaking my head at some decisions they made during the film. Such as the ending and some parts near the ending. It got excessive with the choices they made, like "Did they seriously do that?" The comedic elements was actually surprisingly good. No one liners to make history, but the jokes were easy to find and laughable.
I went into this movie with low expectations. I came out satisfied, and I find it a worthy entry into the Terminator franchise. It sets up a sequel following this movie, and that's something I don't like. Maybe they will clear up some plot holes, I don't know. But overall I would recommend this movie and I will go and watch it again. It is average, but honestly it really isn't a waste of time. This movie deserves more than the critics are giving it. Don't believe those that rate it horribly and say it isn't a good movie. Cause it really is good, I will defend it till the end.

Several times in the film they pay homage to T2 and the plot was tight and quick paced - the visual and sound effects were impressive! The terminators look awesome. There are plenty of eighties throwback lines and guns and ammo you loved from old Schwarzenegger films too. The acting was sharp with some nice laughs thrown in so it doesn't take it self so seriously. Also kudos to Hollywood for making it PG-13 so it's more family oriented. Keep it classy. A big applause to director Alan Taylor (The Sopranos, Game of Thrones) and bringing in "Khaleesi" to play Sarah Conner (babe alert!) - significantly cuter than Linda Hamilton. And more chill. No offense. The movie also makes some good social commentary on the use of technology. Today most of society is plugged in (smartphones) and theirs not much real connection going on between friends and family. It's important to realize we have a short time on earth - make the most of it! This film was an action packed race for humanities future and I look forward to the next two in line! Expand

A laughably bad script, wooden acting so bad that old Arnie isn't the worst actor for a change, and pitiful tv style sets.......

I went into "Genisys" thinking, wow, if THOSE movies got good reviews, imagine how awful this is going to be, considering it got bad reviews....
And yet, I was pleasantly surprised. The acting was really solid, the plot I could actually follow without rolling my eyes or falling asleep, and the movie actually built to a climax that I cared about. Could it have used some more polish? Sure. Was it a groundbreaking sci fi masterpiece in the same way T1 was? Not exactly. But still, this was a fun "ride" of a movie, which you expect action movies to be. (It also had modern, relevant questions being raised about our reliance on smart phone tech.)
I remember reading some critiques, like "they don't explain why Arnold's Terminator aged well," though I thought they did perfectly. He's made of living tissue....which ages.....simple enough? And as for complaints about the time traveling, time traveling has NEVER made sense. You need to suspend your disbelief, that's the whole point.
Anyway, this all just goes to show how bought and paid for the review industry is. If you like terminator and want a fun movie, go see this!

Well creating 2 timelines might confoud us. I understand why many people get nasty about this movie.. Personally I loved terminator 5. This movie is full of action, emotions and achieves its goal. The main goal of these movies is to make us shape emotions about T-800. James cameron is an expert doing that(watch other movies like titanic or avatar). I felt like smth cracked inside me when schwarzenegger said "protect my sarah" and I loved the fact that he survived, contrary to terminator 2. For me terminator 5 is a fully enjoyable movie, maybe a little far-fetched, but achives its goal. Great Job..

Salvation will feel like a distant memory here as the darker post-apocalyptic feel has been traded in for a more modern-day action flick. While it has its moments of fun action, I couldn't help but feel like Genisys is trying too hard to be an Avengers movie that effortlessly channels moments of humor and cleverness into the potential end-of-the-world giant that is the story. On top of that, the seriousness rarely felt that serious. Partially because of the writing, partially because of the casting. Arnold is fine, but the casting choices for John Conner and Reese seem wrong in hind-sight. Neither quite fit into their role, making me wonder why the director and casting crew felt compelled to move forward with both. There are missed opportunities within the expanded story as well - the new face of Skynet offered such a fantastic opportunity to make Terminator more than just a bit of nostalgia. This could have been more on the level of Inception, but it isn't. Alas, Genisys is just another cog in the wheel that is a franchise that has really shown its age. Terminator 3 may stand as the weakest of the movies to some, but Genisys isn't all that much better (if at all). Should they find reason to make another one, they'll have a helluva lot of rubble to dig through to clear the name. Perhaps it would be better if they left it alone? Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I gave it a 4 because it was good enough to be watchable due to nostalgia. I would advise anyone thinking of watching this movie to make sure they have watched the first 2 Terminators first.

I really liked the premise and the surprises early on. I loved the movie's nostolgia until Reese and Sarah Connor started talking in the getaway vehicle. Reese was extremely whiny. The movie quickly turned into turd once the time travel talk started. Arnold's slapstick was done too much to remain endearing. The writing was just generally poor. The anthropomorphized Skynet was silly and seemed like something from movies and TV from the 80s when audiences were not yet familiar with computers and automated systems. I felt embarrassed for the director when they decided to have a hologram of the anthropomorphized Skynet in a room with no observers.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's an OK movie but i would separate it from the whole Terminator franchise It is overcomplicated with things that are unnecessary and instead of simple story like in T1,2,3,4 we get something really complex in terms of story with a lot of comical reliefs on the top. The problem is that the script writer had no idea how to close holes in the script so instead of simplifying it he used thing like "we just don't know lol. For example the main question of the film - who sent Pops back in time? What was the answer? "This information is deleted from my memory". I mean they leave it there just like that and don't do anything with this story hole. This is terrible. On the other side visuals are very good i like it but i couldn't get rid of the feeling that i was watching Fast & Furious 2029 instead of Terminator. It looks good but at the same time it's dumb as **** and it has nothing to do with the original. I think i can clearly say that the movie was saved only by the appearance of Arnold. Without him the movie would be a complete disaster.

Overall it has a little to do with the original diology but it is watchable in a company of friends and booze. It's is more like a fan made film rather than a real one and it is not worth buying on the Blu Ray but it's not bad either. I think 610 or 710is a fair score for that movie.

I loved the action, i loved that arnold returned as the terminator, i loved that they FINALLY showed how the humans won the war but the machines stipl sent the terminator back in time just like how kyle reese said in the first terminator movie! Honestly, the first 30 or so minutes had me hooked.....but then something happened! Something i never saw coming, the characters didnt fit their roles, they didnt ACTURATELY portray sarah connor or kyle reese, allow me to explain. In the original terminator, kyle reese was DEFINATLEY a soldier by the way he acted and spoke but the 2015 portrayal of kyle reese was so bad he seemed to be some ordinary joe trying to survive attacks from killer cyborgs. And sarah, i must say that linda hamilton did a great job of her portral of the mother of legendary soldier john connor, she truly set the standard for that character, thats why when i saw the new version of sarah connor and how they wrote her character, i was thouroghly disgusted! She wasnt strong, she was angry! She wasnt fierce, she was just a **** a TOTAL **** who acted more like an uppity feminist with a chip on her shoulder! Now the story/plot, its not bad but mainly confusing and for them to shuffle john connor off to the side as if he doesnt matter anymore and basiclly put kyle in the spotlight as he's now the future savior is just wrong to me! Anyway, i enjoyed the movie but i was honestly disappointed. I was expecting more but i was left wanting........6/10 Expand

In fact, there is a good amount to enjoy in this film (Yes, I know). I have enjoyed all of the Terminator films, but none are great. Examples: 1) There is no believable, meaningful "connection" between Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese in the first film, due to bad acting and even worse dialogue. 2) T2 may be a somewhat better film but it also suffers from some poor acting/scripting/directing (e.g. there's this awkward Sarah Connor voice-over, narration device that gets introduced out of nowhere about halfway through the film-- assuming it was done in order to match tone with the first film?). T3 was forgettable, but not awful.

The new film is everything you would want from a 2015 Terminator movie. Chiefly, the FX and storyline are much improved and updated. I, for one, was curious what modern film FX and even makeup crews could do with the groundwork laid in the original Terminator films (i.e. with the T1000's liquid metal construct and Arnie's endoskeleton). Also, the role of the internet and mobile devices does not play any part in the first 2 films. With it being such an integral aspect of modern society, it was necessary to show how SkyNet could launch in the midst of that kind of world (i.e. the world in which we actually live). Further, the film does a nice job of paying homage (mainly) to the first film, it does a far better job of developing a love story between Kyle and Sarah, and even "humanizes" the Guardian (i.e. Pops, T100) more than any of the other films.

Critics are seemingly bothered by the lack of new ideas coming out of Hollywood. I actually tend to agree. But what I don't understand is their general praise for a film like Jurassic World, which was a completely unoriginal 2015 retelling of Jurassic Park, and their general dislike for Terminator Genisys, which featured an entirely new plot and completely reset the "Terminator" world for new plots in the future (pun intended).

The bottomline is that it accomplishes what it sets out to accomplish. If you don't analyze the plot-holes too much (which, again, are arguably fewer in number than the previous films), you'll find it thoroughly entertaining. Just go into it with modest expectations and without too much cynicism. Again, if you are a fan of the other films in the series and can be honest about their limitations, there is no reason why you would not enjoy this one as well.

What can I say - this is one more example why you should not resurrect old blockbusters - there is no place for old heroes in the world of today. Directors tried to go to the core concepts of Terminator 1 or 2, and, unfortunately, failed. Even "I'll be back" could not save the situation. To go deeper into time travels was a mistake - X-men did the same mistake - when you start to talk about time travel it is obvious that you are out of ideas. Remember this dramatic move when T-1000 fall down into liquid metal? Did you feel the shiver on your skin? Do you remember when Sarah Connor pushed the button and Terminator killed himself? Do you remember tears on your eyes? I believe you did. And what do we have here? Stupid death of main villain, T-800 even survived after falling in the same liquid metal (lol). To sum it up - compared to Terminator 2 this is complete failure, modern special effects obviously could not help it. But, honestly, I liked to see old Iron Arny again :) Expand

This is not f**king acceptable. This is from the same summer that gave us MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, a movie directed by George Miller who was in his late SIXTIES, so what the hell is Alan Taylor's excuse? Why doesn't this movie want to be entertaining? It had a winning concept! It could of been so much better than it was! We've gotten much better movies from this franchise, but we haven't had a good one since 2003.

Yes, I liked Terminator 3. Was it campy? Yes, but it had a charm which made it entertaining to watch and had that awesome crane chase sequence(which is probably my favorite action sequence from this series). Terminator Genisys? Nothing at all like T3.

Seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger is great and he's the reason you watch the movie, but his performance seems very subdued. I miss the smart-ass-y-ness of the T3 Arnold, he had the best dialogue. I did like seeing J.K. Simmons and how he decided to take on a different role from what he's used to playing, even though it feels like he disappeared out of nowhere near the end of the film. I loved Linda Hamilton's portrayal of Sarah Connor in T2, so seeing this movie and knowing that it's trying to pass of Emilia Clarke's portrayal of her as how Sarah was in T2, I thought to myself, "REALLY?" She is NOTHING like Sarah was in Terminator 2. She doesn't try to put an effort to replicate Linda Hamilton's portrayal, she's bland. The action scenes are pathetic, there's no "Crane Chase" sequence of the sorts, nothing memorable. Plus, Jai Courtney and Matt Smith just look so uninterested.

All in all, "Terminator Genisys" is such a dull, boring, and so miss-casted sequel, stick with the first three films and stop watching these trashy movies.

P.S.
Yes, I re-wrote my review after I saw this movie made more money than "Mad Max: Fury Road". I was so angry, and a second viewing really didn't help...
As Immortan Joe said, "Ah, Mediocre!"

It has a plot thatTerminator Genisys is not a complete dud and I will say it’s better that it’s predecessor Terminator Salvation, but that doesn’t change the fact that this film is quite a bit of a mess. I’m not angry I’m just disappointed. It has a plot that basically makes you go “what the hell?” for an hour and a half and basically acts as too many re-makes of Terminator 1 & 2 that don’t really work unless you have actually seen those two! I’m not really a fan of these re-imagining versions of the characters, there is a whole lot that is not really explained and it won’t really warrant repeat viewing because it will only work to further hi-light the amount of plot holes in this film and there’s tons of really heavy handed we rely on technology too much messages in the film. Apart from Matt Smith’s rather interesting turn as a villain for this film, there is not really that much memorable here and I suspect this one will be cast aside to the cusp. Terminator has become like Highlander in that anything that came after it, they only got a brief stint at being very good and everything that followed, has sucked. This film keeps up the tradition. The action scenes are very decent, but they are very repetitive and the film’s effects really vary in quality, not to mention the acting isn’t entirely par. I especially did not like Kyle Reese in this film and what they did to John Connor was almost inexcusable. Expand

The action was great, Arnold vs Arnold is the manliest thing I've seen in a while.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Terminator Genisys was probably the best movie since Judgement Day. Yeah, sure the plot is complicated, but why bash a movie just because you don't like time travel? I bet a lot of the people who hate the movie are just angry because they hate change. I don't see a problem with it. Change and re-imagination is good. Would you want to have movie with the same plot every year? I would think you wouldn't unless you are completely intellectually incapable of following complicated plots. The reboot of Star Trek in 2009 had an altered timeline? What makes Terminator Genisys so bad compared to Star Trek? Yeah, sure Jai Courtney wasn't the best Kyle Reese, but he sure beat Christian Bale who played John Connor in Salvation. Jason Clarke as John Connor is Genisys was by far my favourite. Yeah maybe some just don't care for the movie, that's fine. I personally loved the movie, but I really only watched it for Jason Clarke. If a sequel is to happen cough, With Jason Clarke cough, I would watch it for sure, without a doubt. I'm sure people disagree with my review, but really don't care what other people think about the movie. This is "my" honest to god thoughts on the movie. SPOILERS ---- Sure you don't like how John became a T-3000 in the movie and was the bad guy. No matter how you feel, John was still the machines problems. I would go on, but feel that it's best to stop while I can. Expand

I can honestly say that Genisys was nowhere near as bad as the critics say. They didn't want it to succeed and they didn't give it a chance. That storyline makes total sense and was not hard to follow at all. Here an example of nothing the producers could have done would have changed the critic reviews because every critic hated T3 and T4 and so what does T5 do, it practically erases them from existence in a much better way, and what was the critics response. Oh, what are the producers doing, are we just going to pretend T3 and T4 never existed. So basically Terminator Genisys gave the critics everything they wanted for 12 years and the reviews were still bad. I really hope this does well in China because I really really really want them to make more Terminator movies. DONT LISTEN TO THE CRITICS! PERIOD, Expand

Bottom-line: If you go in with the right expectations, this new addition to the Terminator franchise is kinda fun and actually it warmed me up to the franchise as a whole.

Bottom-line: If you go in with the right expectations, this new addition to the Terminator franchise is kinda fun and actually it warmed me up to the franchise as a whole.

If you’ve ever heard of Terminator you can probably guess the plot of Terminator: Genisys. In the late ‘90’s or early ‘00’s, A.I. was born - yadda yadda yadda - Mankind vs. Machines war. The machines discovered a way to time travel so they sent a robot wrapped in human skin back to kill the mother of the guy who saves Mankind from the war so he is never born. The guy’s name is John Connor and his mother’s name is Sarah. The humans followed suit and sent someone back to save her. That was the first Terminator.

In the second one, the machines sent a liquid metal robot to kill John when he was just a kid. The third one was probably the same. The fourth movie in the franchise was set during the war against the machines, and that brings us to the latest film in the franchise.

It seems like a bunch of movies this summer bank on nostalgia to draw in audiences and Terminator Genisys is no exception. The film’s introduction uses fancy graphics to explain the premise of the series. There is a battle sequence while the humans take over the Machines’ time machine and then they send Kyle Reese (Courtney) back in time. Reese’s arrival in 1984 is a reenactment of the first film up until another liquid metal terminator reveals itself. Sarah Connor comes driving in and saves the would-be hero from the future.

I can’t really go into too much detail actually without giving away major plot points but the crux of the movie comes down to the fact that by sending people to the past, it actually changes the future.

I suspect there are two reasons why people will see Terminator Genisys: Arnold and action. Arnold is getting older but the movie finds a way to work that in; the skin around the machine is human skin so it ages. Boom. Done. They also have a running line that’s kind of endearing. “Old…but not obsolete!”

The action is pretty standard. There are lots of explosions and characters are only injured when it is needed for the plot. They withstand car crashes and fist fights and explosions that would maim anyone else but when a random character shoots them in the leg, they’re incapacitated.

Much like the action, everything, be it the graphics, or the dialog, or the plot, is pretty standard. Normally I’d give this type of movie a 5/10 because it doesn’t really do anything that other movies can’t do better. The reason I decided on a two was because of the film’s sense of humor. It’s stuff like the ‘old but not obsolete’ line that makes this movie a fun, pleasant experience. After all, by this point in the franchise I shudder to imagine what it would look like if it took itself too seriously.

He was Mr. Olympia, and to imagine him as an unstoppable killing machine was terrifyingly believable. What if he came to your door? As with all the movies of that time, Star Wars, Rocky, Indiana Jones, etc, no one expected there would be sequels. That's something Hollywood dreamed up later. So here we have number 5; how do they make it different but still the same? The basics are still the same, the machines take over the world, but sending Kyle back in time to save John Conner's mother has a twist. And there are more twists to come. Most of them don't really make sense if you analyze it logically. But hey, this is an action movie, fighting, shooting, blowing stuff up, and Arnold, of course. "I'll be back" became quite a catch phrase back in 1984. Who knew he'd be coming back 30 years later? Expand

Character development was enough to keep me invested in the story, and Arnold's character as the T800 was charming. I thought Jason Clarke would ruin the movie for me but he didn't.
The movie was 125 minutes. I liked it a lot. They closed. The Skynet story well, and I didn't have any questions after. So, go to Redbox and rent the movie.

Lacking enough melodrama and smartness, Terminator Genisys is just another dull, flawed and unremarkable sequel added to Cameron's Terminator franchise.
