When even a liquid killer bot seems to have more personality than the male lead, I guess we should start to worry. Arnold steals the show as a grizzled Terminator protecting yet another version of Sarah Connor in several timelines from several killer bots and the viewers from crying from boredom or confusion. You got to give him the credit for at least making this movie watchable.

The plot is made up by shredding the scripts of the previous movies and then randomly gluing the paper snippets back together. You add a lot of explosions, chases and cgi to the mix to plaster over the biggest plot holes and keep the audience off balanced. Add some boring leads to the mix and Arnold shines even more.

So we have a bad Arnold bot from the first movie hopping back in time to kill Sarah, while both the guy from that first movie and a good Arnold bot of the second movie do the same to prevent that. At the same time the T-1000 liquid killer bot from the second movie makes an attempt as well, being bested by Sarah, the good Arnold bot and the male lead, while the bad Arnold bot makes another attempt on Sarah's life after being restarted by the liquid killer bot, but only to fail again..

After that, we get to hop back again in time to yet another moment in the past or hop forward to yet another timeline. Then we get some sudden intimate moments between the male and female leads, cause well they have to mate at some point to make a hero in the future of their timeline. The male lead messes up his one liners and the female lead looks like a teen and we get some more emotional and intimate moments dished to demonstrate the total lack of chemistry between the leads.

A guy who looks like that engineer dude from the Star Trek Next Generation series makes an appearance as the head of da resistance and the bad computer network is shut down in the future, but not shut down because it is actually downloaded into another bot to survive the shutdown and then turns that engineer head of the resistance dude, who also happens to be the son of the two leads, into another bot that then goes back in time to stop the leads and Arnold from stopping the bad network from destroying the world while at the same time trying to save another son of the leads of another timeline, who isn't their son therefore, from getting killed in the progress.

More stuff follows, some buildings get blown up and the world is saved so the two leads can get it on to make their own hero of a resistance that will never be,as the bad network has been killed in the past already.Of that timeline that is.

After the credits we get a cliffhanger in case someone might plan a sequel in the future that is hopefully less of a mess than this one, but if it isn't let's hope the sequel is in another timeline so we won't have to hear from it ever again in our timeline. Not in future nor in the past.

Just watch Arnold do his thing and have a laugh.

The script is so convoluted filled with plot holes and it barely makes any sense, obviously the film is written by people who don't care for the franchise. The film has lackluster action, that's odd because the terminator series has great action scenes, director Alan Taylor does a slick way of directing the action scenes and copying off of James Cameron. John Connor (Jason Clarke) the leader of the human resistance, sends solider Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back in 1984 to protect his mother Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke from 'Game of Thrones') from another terminator assassin, creating an unexpected turn of the events in the timeline; in the first Terminator Sarah is a scared waitress, but now she is a skilled fighter and has her Terminator guardian (played once again by Arnold Schwarzenegger) by her side. With good allies and dangerous enemies Reese sets out on an unexpected new mission: reset the future and prevent Skynet from launching their app before the robot apocalypse starts and destroys mankind. There are many flaws with the movie, Arnold once again is great and brings so much energy and like ability into the Terminator and Jai Courtney was missed cast however he was fine playing Kyle Reese. Emilia Clarke was missed cast as Sarah Connor (she can act but not in this movie) she over does with her performance and Jason Clarke was not a mediocre version of John Connor like Nick Stahl, Clarke can act but doing over doing it as the John Connor character. The film is not cheesy or cliche'd it's confusing as hell and the action is mediocre. Grade C- Expand

The problem is the movie is so confounded with time travel in a story that is mainly retread disguised as reboot sequel that it doesn't make much sense. There are plot holes and flaws. One small one in particular I wondered about is with the filmmakers going through all the trouble of recreating 1984 Los Angeles, with beautifully shot/VFX of the downtown skyline of that era for example, then go and blow a simple detail like LAPD using a collar radio instead of a walkie talkie in that year. A very small flaw yes, but it amounts to sloppy direction. And that amounts to a befuddling story with too much action and not enough well thought out plot in a movie that drags despite the strong franchise base and fun that it has with it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not a fan of Jason Clarke as John Connor and Emilia Clarke looks to young and fragile as Sarah Connor but this new reboot is exciting. Yes, we have deep changes on Skynet's timeline and John happens to be the villain but follow this story is as entertaining as in the past. T-800 rules and makes as laugh with his gained humanity, Kyle and Sarah have a funny love story and action sequences are very good. How not to like this? Many questions remain but they will surely be answered in the next films of the franchise, which I can't wait to watch. Expand

This movie isn't great, but neither is it as bad as some reviews would have you believe.
That being said, I had the benefit of seeing this film without having seen the trailer. I daresay my review score may have dropped a point (or two) had I seen the trailer(s). In short, the twist and best parts are all showboated.

The film begins with some good old nostalgia for the first movie, before setting us off a new terminator adventure. This is the strongest part of the film
Arnold is fast becoming a parody of himself, and this is evident here, but it almost adds a charm.

The latter part of the movie is a special effects-a-thon, reminiscent of something Michael Bay would produce.

As an aside note, there is no need for the 3D version

Arnie delivers some excellent one liners, and there are so many in jokes for fans of the franchise, you can't help but laugh along. Clarke does a good job filling some very big shoes, in spite of generally woeful dialogue, and the storyline, whilst ludicrous, is compelling enough to keep the audience interested. There are some great action sequences, and the underlying cautionary tale resonates for a contemporary audience moving inexorably towards an 'internet of things', making for a fun yet unpolished experience. 5.87/10 Expand

Like it couldn't decide which story it wanted to tell, so it frankensteined all their idea's together into a bit of a jumbled mess.
But being a fun movie it's not meant to have the best story. It's mostly paying tribute to it's much more likable older siblings, Terminator 1, and Terminator 2. I give this movie an 8, because I personally enjoy it, and others( including other users on this site)have other opinions, but if you to relive the nostalgia of the old Terminator movies, or just see Arnold with more guns than the NRA would allow, than this film is for you.

Arnold does wonders for this film, giving credit to the character, the director a new approach to the film and yet classy to the Cameron feel of how the future is portrayed. If anything that can be criticized was the studio company giving away too many plots too early in the marketing of, "Terminator Genisys", and the fact to have James Cameron talk about it to help endorse it. As Arnold stated, "The director did a fine job and it seemed that the studio wanted to get Cameron to endorse the film." Along that context. The only thing that besides too early of plot marketing of the film was also of the fact that too many details and give away's were leaked in the marketing giving a bad taste to the expectation of the film. Emilia Clarke is good in her performance of Sarah Connor, and the rest of the cast as well. The film gives excellent humor in the film if also homage to the catch phrases that made the franchise memorable. The only downside for the film itself is the idea of speeding the story a little too quick at certain points but at the same time too throw in some mysterious plot points related to Arnold's character itself. But while the slight mystery plots were potholes only at minor areas. The film itself makes up in overall story, action, and an exciting roller coaster. To the fans supporting this I quote, "Excellent!" To the critics rating this movie at Metacritic, allow me to add an additional quote and misleading the fan base totally, "Chill out, Dick-wad!" This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There are two major problems with "Terminator Genisys": One - the movie is a lie to its own franchise and timeline. Two - its plot has a shotgun hole as huge as the shotguns in the "Teminator" series are usually capable of inflicting.

So, for starters, we're told that SkyNet has gone haywire on August 26, 1997 (instead of the initial 2003 date as revealed in "T3") and that it wasn't a military operations software that every computer was hooked up to, but rather some missile launch program... that apparently the rest of the countries didn't have anti-missile defenses from. Wow. Next, we're introduced to Kyle Reese, who, despite being one of John Connor's most trusted soldiers, is somehow supposed to prove to John that he's "the worthy one" because... he had a pic of John's mother hidden in his locker? ...What? Why would John give his mom's photo to one of his soldiers WAY before sending him through time? Was he aware that one of them would be his dad? I thought Sarah never told John who his father was. Then, Kyle finds out that the time he arrived in was changed because that's why, and now he has to undergo another time travel together with the woman he's supposed to protect because the voices in his head told him so. You know, the original, the REAL Kyle Reese had to protect Sarah not only because of who she was, but eventually because he fell in love with her. And he didn't die because the timelines collapsed into one another, he did it to sacrifice himself to save his love. Miles away from the true content here, guys.

Though the second issue is tons bigger yet. The story goes as to have Kyle and Sarah travel to 2017 because this is where the alternate SkyNet (who knows its name is SkyNet, even though in this timeline the SkyLabs technology wasn't invented at all) is supposed to activate as "Genisys" (even though people are bragging on about how great Genisys is already hours before its launch) and take over the world. There they meet alternate John, who isn't really John anymore, bearing the scars from 2025, all while the T-800 Sarah left behind clearly forgot to age (he spent years badassing to the levels of "The Expendables", though). While all these revelations go on in deserted 1984 streets with nobody chasing the fleeing van, or in some hospital/police tower garage where people shoot and point guns at each other while nobody else comes in or out for 10 whole minutes, we get plot elements being spoonfed to us one after another, either through the immortal robot, or through both doves figuring out whether they're in love or not. Which begs the question as to why would a machine that can survive almost anything as good as SkyNet's latest creation even need two people constantly arguing with one another for something it did alone anyway (these two weren't even able to detonate the freaking bombs at the end - just to clarify, we're talking about the same Sarah Connor who got her legs smashed at the factory in the original movie, and yet managed to blow up the Terminator). Throw in some cheap puns, hand gestures, smiling Arnie and the best of SkyNet's machine T-whatever who can imitate blood and being dead, yet apparently never brings it up again. You guessed it - you get "Teminator Genisys"! Yeah!

But even all these things put aside, multiple questions still remain: who was that Asian cop/T-1000 sent to the past to assassinate Kyle Reese in 1984 (the plot-alloy tech wouldn't be developed until 2031 in the original timeline)? How did the good T-800 get to 1973 (and then aged 20 years in just 9 years, and then aged another 9 years in 33 years)? How did John Connor/not-John Connor get to 2017? The list is tedious, time-consuming, and lets you hang on to the question of whether or not there would be another sequel to this mess in its current state (probably...). Well, my answer is simple: please don't. Leave "well enough" alone. And Arnie, you're gold, but... take your earned retirement. Please DON'T be back anymore.

Not like this, at the least.

The only reason I can think of that they're bashing this movie so hard is because they're probably setting their expectations for it waaaaay too high and possibly even expecting it to be as good as the first two films. If that's the case, then they have no one to blame but themselves for not liking this film, because it was never meant to be as good as the first two films. Those films are are masterpieces and this one was just meant to be a fun and entertaining action flick, which it was. And of course, it wouldn't be a Terminator film without Schwarzenegger himself in it (unlike the previous film, which threw in a cheap stunt double version of him), so it's good to see him in this. Overall, yes it has its cheesy and ridiculous moments (but what action flick doesn't nowadays?), and yes the writing and dialogue aren't up to par with some of the previous films, but at the end of the day, this was just a fun film and that's all I wanted out of this film. If you go in with that same mindset, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Expand

The problem is that when it comes to these summer tent pole movies, they always want to see something totally new and groundbreaking in terms of effects, which - to be fair- this movie really does not do. OK- so the shape - changing Liquidmetal T-1000 Terminator in the film can't re-capture the magic of seeing it for the 1st -time 25 years ago in T2 ( it's like seeing Lightsaber's again in the Star Wars Prequels, no big deal, right? ) - nor does the new actor ( w/ is never explained ) upstage Robert Patrick's T-1000 - which would have been a real nice touch if they used his likeness in this movie ( they scanned him into the computer in 91 - so I don't know why they didn't? - ) but this film thankfully doesn't hang on that. This new film was Way better than T3:, which was nothing more than a boring retread of T2- and didn't advance the story at all. You could skip it ( this new film does) and you wouldn't have missed a thing. Compared w/ this new take/ twist/ re-write of the timeline, T3 is lame. The original film now also seems just outright dull compared to this flick. Do I believe the original actor's from the original were better? Yes, maybe they were? But having said that - I didn't dislike the new cast at all. It's a different take, as this Sarah has lead a different life. This was easily the 2nd best Terminator film to date. It was far better than JJ's 2009 Re-boot of our beloved Classic Trek. Genisys is only one of three movies I've watched in the theatre over the course of the last year -and I will be going to see it again. Expand

EMilia Clakre as young sharah is very good, jason Clarke is OK , Courtney is a bit dull and Arnold is hands down once again fantastic.
The movie suceeds on merging T1 and T2 quite succesfully, at this point i would like to say i disagree with the hate time travels recieves, time travel was always a vital point of all terminators for bother their plot and story
T-1000 once against steals the show just great. One more thing i really liked was that the T-800 seems logically outclassed in all the fights from the more advanced Terminators, but u can clearly say that him and Emilia have developed a great synergy fighting them.THey always fight in terms of 2vs1
Many and fantastic fights/duels
the only cons of this movie is the clear PG-13 which is obvious sometimes and at the 3/4 it gets a bit slow
Nontheless a WORTH continuation of the T1 and T2 movie miles better than T3 and especially Salvation

Hopefully they cancel any kind of sequels in place, because it already has killed the franchise. Expand

If you've come to see another sequel to the Terminator you came to the right place. If you came to see Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf you need to check your ticket. I think this was one of the best installments of the series and I'm one picky SOB.

After seeing the Metascore of 39/100 my expectations were LOW. haha Maybe, that's why I thought the movie was PRETTY DAMN GOOD! It's not a 10(I just gave it that score because of these RIDICULOUS underscores). This movie is a SOLID 77/100.

I would say #1 is T2 and #2 is the original and the last 2 are up for debate. I will start with the story which is the hardest part to grasp as it combines all of the movies and mixes them up. I mean they go through 3 different time periods so I will say it was an alright story plot for the fact that they did mix it up from the original formula. I will move onto the acting. I mean Arnold is a Beast like always and as for Sarah Connor who is played by Emilia Clarke from GOT I thought she felt out of place compared to Linda Hamilton. We also have Jason Clarke as John who I personally loved. I will finish in the acting department with Jai Courtney as Reese who I thought did a decent job considering he had to fill Michael Biehn's shoes which is almost Impossible lolz but he did a good job. I will finish with the action department and say that it was Fantastic and the CGI was used to perfection I thought. I also loved how they incorporated the T-1000 for a little while. I mean it had that Nostalgia that brought me back and I loved that for sure. I would also say that the movie had a decent amount of humor. I will now close out with saying that if you're a Terminator fan that you should definitely go and watch this movie. I would also recommend watching it in IMAX 3D because that is what I saw it in and it made it all the more EPIC.I can only hope and pray that they come out with an Unrated version of the film when it comes out officially on Blu-ray and DVD. It was a fun movie with all the stuff you like about T1 and T2 with the plot flaws of the previous two sequels. Arnold plays the terminator really well, which may say something about his acting. Jai Courtney was a very questionable Kyle Reese in the acting, but I really think a guy like him is casted as a piece of man-meat for the ladies. Sarah Connor being played by Emilia Clarke was a character you really wanted to see fall in love, as the previous actress, Linda Hamilton, I would not have thought that about. John Connor in this movie actually made for a believable character, and played a great role as a bad guy.

The story in these Terminator movies always feel like they're sort of making it up as they go, so if you're real finicky on believable story and action then you may want to look somewhere else. Fan boys of the series also don't seem to like it because it's still centered around stopping Skynet.

Very glad I did NOT watch any trailers beforehand. In fact I barely remembered this movie's existence until right before driving to the theater. So because of this I very much enjoyed the twists(though they were obvious).

There were some pretty awesome set pieces and emotional scenes that brought me back to when I was 7 years old again, watching Judgement Day for the first time.

I think the ending is what really made me love it. I mean we all remember the epic ending to Judgement Day. You can tell the writers really tried to pay homage to it here.

But hey I'm the guy who HATED Jurassic World so make of this what you will.

The action and Terminator 1 on 1 combat is beyond anything the past films have done, it's stylish, it's violent and it's intense. The story is no more convoluted than anything Christopher Nolan has done, it makes perfect sense if you pay attention to the film and not a little notepad nit picking the entire film. This film is the worst I've seen all Summer. I didn't shell out the bucks for 3D or IMAX, and was so pleased I went that route. It fails in large part due to the writing. The script muddies the waters so badly that nothing, not even Arnold's performance, can survive the maddening confusion that continues to build to the very end of the film. Yes, the CGI is good, but it too is weakened by the frustrating story line. The support characters are played by good actors, but like Arnold, they are washed out by the terrible script. If you must see it, wait for the cable release. Expand

Arnold Schwarzenegger did a fantastic job as the Terminator once again even bringing back the one liners. To me this movie felt like a sequel to reboot the franchise once again if they decide, something similar on what X-Men of Future Past did. A must see if your a Terminator / Arnold fan, however if you do watch it, sometimes the story can get complicated with time travel, but just enjoy the movie for what it is and a open mind. Expand

The movie really suffered from giving away too much in the previews. It would have probably been best not to reveal the bad guy in it as its supposed to be a pretty big emotional scene for the characters in the movie and it lost alot of impact because of it. And while the story took quite a few convoluted twists and turns, especially with the alternate dimensions stuff, it did ok in the end. Emilia Clarke does an excellent job in her first big movie role and Arnold does really good in the movie, with a few old timer jokes thrown his way for good measure. Jai Anthony really needs to stop getting these kinds of roles as he's always too stiff and rigid compared to the rest of the cast. I didn't like him in the Die Hard movie and I especially don't like him here. It's getting to a point to where I'll avoid a movie if he's in it cause I know he's going to be terrible. However there's enough good here to satisfy even a passing fancy in the terminator universe, but it should be noted that it's not going to be for everyone. It was a good time for me and my friend and that's all that mattered for me in the end. Expand

The action in the film was done very well, and unlike other big films that come out, the love and detail that has been put into the CGI is fantastic. There was never a moment where I became concious of the fact that the CGI or any of the action sequences seemed out of place or poorly done. It all blended in very well together.

It's difficult within a classic franchise to have different actors playing as certain characters. You would want Linda Hamilton playing as Sarah Connor, and all the other original actors back in, but of course sometimes this can't always be the case.

I am really glad they picked Emilia Clarke as she looks very much like a younger Sarah Connor or Linda Hamilton should I say. I think she played the part perfectly. Arnold of course did a fantastic job, making subtle joke references to his age and making a few other references to the older films as well which was great.

As for Jai Courtney, who was a very important piece to the role did a good job as well but I wish his character seemed a little more out out of place, and surprised to be back to where he ends up.

Overall I think Terminator: Genisys is definitely worth watching despite the critic reviews. If you're a big fan of the first two or three films. I think you would need to watch them first though to understand Genisys a little more.

Suddenly a worthy sequel

Made today the campaign for the new Terminator, which is the Genesis. Copies among fans of the franchise around him was broken a lot — TRU or not TRU aged robot (Arnie that is 30 years younger), canonical or not canonical to touch such moves from Cameroon's novels, and many other hundreds of posts in the relevant forums. Me, honestly, is also doubted. The third part was more of the sh*t, the fourth — good film, but generally perceived separately from the series. But, the first full-length trailer and then a laudatory review from the Cameron set up a optimistic way. And, not to Buriatia doubts, went on first impressions to assess first hand.

To my surprise, the movie was not in repertoire terms beloved of the Beam. When blockbusters such level with each iron show strive. Sea cinema and Kinomax past for me, so picked available from the Epicenter. I am to him is not, however, kinik to look at pull. Screen even, visually, more Lucavsala, chairs, kind, gentle, and the fact that he looks shabby Yes pomateny — well, the tea, and I'm not a glamorous chick that will hang out crawling.

The features of the Epicenter, again the level of his "popdose" showing — the ticket purchased online, then punch at the box office. No self-service terminals. In the afternoon when we went, that's the rules. And so, to stand in queues does not suit me. Why take online that is more convenient. Terminals special queues have never watched. Well, okay with it. As I said, went in the afternoon to catch up to the evening training session, and this session, the hype was not observed. Although, on a prior, judging by facing the people, the hall was Packed. Can pripasov on the very first session, seeded, XS.

The film was in 3D. Not my favorite format, but in this case they, and not abused, as is sometimes the case, and he built unobtrusively, so that picture was a plus. How, in fact, and so its contents.

Initially, the first 15 minutes, it was still a feeling of wrongness of what is happening, and the picture looked like the fourth, except that canonically in sombre dark colours were filed all future. However, over time the picture has absorbed the attention and all sorts of philosophical izmyshlizmy in this picture there was no time left. Action interspersed short breaks, during which we are the creators of the picture by the mouths of the characters explained what the hell is going on here (and the events of the first two Terminators then segued into something new, play with time, all cases), sometimes the characters drove the lyrics (except for Arnie here were all stereotypically-blockbuster, well, put a pinch of the lyrics — here you are), and then again quality the action. The fights and action on top, and lots of it. From the picture hardly someone expected a profound drama and leisurely story about the adventures of a cyborg soldier and resistance in the past. And, with all blokbasterami, not being superficial Thriller. Somewhere, even for modern society of consumption to ride casually done. Note on the Genesis, gadgetmania and what about her said heroes. And this is in anticipation of the release of Windows 10, by the way! The plot to discuss and chew over not undertake, briefly about it stakeholders know, but a paraphrase of live screenings of the film — it is necessary to you?

Of course, by the way, how many ears protruded classical novels. Generally the new movie came out a hybrid qualitative remake Kemeronovskoy tapes, plus, again high-quality continuation of the story already new authors. Then you and the liquid T-1000, and the chase sometimes blows nostalgia, but... no stupid tracings, reinterpretation and continuation of traditions. Then, by the way, the film remains a stumbling block. Someone that treats the "Holy swung and messed up", I will say — the story faced in childhood (the first 8 years he gazed, the second — 12) came back to life on the screen, telling that the same might be/happened next. Without falling into sampraday, paste and so on. Direct pancake immediately the result in the middle of the review happened. Well, maybe then it's time to call it a day.

But, in conclusion, we can not say about the Arnold Schwarzenegger. Famous for the role of a soulless killer machine, subsequently trying to become like the man, he again best played a role. Dont copywrite yourself 20-30 years ago, and showing evolution (as far as possible for her) machine, lived for several decades to protect one person. With humor, irony, and a dash appears in the T-800 over the years humanity. "Save my Sarah" — so to the fifth part of the killing machine showed that Skynet really created a new mind (and not only in the form itself), is able not only to cold digital analysis but also something that distinguishes living from nonliving. For me, this film will take its rightful place with the classical T-2,

I usually cringe at the sloppy way sequels call back to previous films, but this one did so very well. Instead of using awkward call-backs as a crutch, they were smoothly integrated in the film and not only had a natural feel, but they also helped to launch the plot forward. The writers went in interesting directions with the story, and the dialogue and action were both solid.
The films biggest weakness was the climax, as it wasn't very clear, at that point, what was going on. Still, I'm finally satisfied to have a solid, re-watchable sequel to T1 and T2.
I'm really wondering if the majority of reviewers saw a different movie than I did, or if they're just predisposed to hate it. Let them remember what the original films were, for their time, and come down off their high-horses to give this one a chance.

Here's the deal. Ignore the 'critics'. If you enjoyed Terminator and Terminator 2, buy a cinema ticket and go and watch Terminator Genisys.

I actually almost didn't. My other half pressed me into it, after I'd already talked myself out of it. "Go on", she said. "Arnold, your favourite is in it!". I reluctantly agreed, was dragged to the cinema, sat down with my popcorn and for the first 30 minutes I was grinning like a kid. References left right and centre to the earlier films, yet different enough to make it engaging viewing as to where they were going to take things.

I left the cinema very happy indeed that I'd watched it on the big screen and, unlike some other films recently, I'd definitely pay to go back and watch it on IMAX.

Ignore the "critics", who are a bunch of joyless idiots, unable to comprehend this film for what it is. A summer blockbuster.

I really hope they follow it up with another, it absolutely deserves it.

The plot is not hard to follow, it's simple if you just pay attention to their dialogue. I made a point to watch the original Terminator prior to viewing this film and was amused to see them recreate the scenes in which both Reese and 1984 T-800 arrive by time travel. The film was geniunely thought out and written quite clever. If one has a problem following a very simple plot, then go back to school, it wasn't hard to follow at the least. Brilliantly entertaining, and throws around an astounding theory that time, no matter if the past is changed, or the future, it is still linear. Loved this film, love the franchise. 10/10 Expand

If you love Terminator movies, this will be worth seeing. If you love action movies, this is still worth seeing. If you want to see an amazing story with great lines and great acting across the board, skip this one.

You have to go in with the right mind set. It is a popcorn flick, not designed to be the greatest movie ever made.

The action scenes were mixed in terms of quality. I did not care for the cartoonish nature of the helicopter chase. I know action movies breaks the laws of physics all the time, but I think G.I. Joe the cartoon had better helicopter physics.

The acting was very mixed. I wanted to like the new Sarah Conner, but she just did not pull off that bad ass charisma like Linda Hamilton did. Arnold did a fine job being Arnold. The actor doing John Carter's roll was very good.

The trailers did giveaway a chunk of the story twists, but there still maybe one surprise remaining. Sadly, most of the movie was predictable.

Jason Clarke gives a hammy performance as John Connor, but he is enjoyable, with a great story to tell, Clarke pumps life into Connor once again, one thing that Sam Warthingon couldn't do in T4. The opening sequence consists of a war between machine and man, one thing that this series has been all about' but if you really want to experience Genisys, I suggest you watch the film in the large format theatres, so you get the big picture, believe me, it's amazing. Emilia Clarke is good as Sarah Connor, as well, but is she as good as Linda Hamlinton in T2? No. But man does she try! But the holy grail of the pack, is Arnie! Holy crap, does this guy still have that swagger and bravado that made him The Terminator. He is a powerhouse on screen, the whole theatre started clapping during his one liners. Genisys has problems, it's way too long for an average action movie, and it's disappointing. It's not as good as I thought it would be, the teasers made it look special and top the three movies before it, not counting McG's disaster. Terminator Genisys is not a disaster and fans will love it for the action and Arnie. Expand

It's even worse than you might fear. A lazy, repetitious, one-trick gimmick masquerading as a film, with lame jokes, no character to speak of, terrible dialogue, and some truly horrendous casting. And that's just for starters.

Believe it or not I actually went in hoping for the best, but this is, without a doubt, the absolute nadir of the Terminator franchise. And a few call backs to the first two films, and some big budget explosions, don't mask the fact that this is a Terminator film with no direction, no future, and no clear ideas. Arnold tries hard, but even he doesn't seem like he has his heart fully in this one, and the rest of the main cast are just trainwreck awful.

It's like someone saw the Sarah Connor Chronicles and thought they'd do the same thing, only on a much bigger budget, and without an ounce of the creativity or intelligence (and that show was hardly perfect to begin with). And still managed to somehow screw it up.

Honestly, it's not even that its out and out 'worst film ever' levels of awful, as much as it is so manufactured and mediocre and soulless that it somehow manages to be twice as disappointing as it would have been if it had just plain sucked. After all, one can ignore a truly bad film, but a mediocre film that shows the odd spark of what might have been, but never does anything with it, that's just depressing. And for this Terminator fan, depressed is exactly how I left the cinema.

After Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation, I really thought we had hit bottom already, but apparently not.

+ Wonderful flashback to childhood having seen the 1984 movie when it came out
+ Arnold is still king

- The script is messy
- **** acting from everyone except Arnold

Terminator Genisys - written review by John Ferrera
Arnold Schwarzenegger stars once again as the iconic t-800 Emilia Clark this time is playing Sarah coNnor, jason clarke as john connor and jai courtney as kyle reese...
this movie is **** awesome... the opening of the war is bad ass with Kyle Reese its so **** awesome seeing Arnold back as the terminator... he is born for it..
Emilia clark is a good Sarah connor in the movie i thought she did a nice job filling linda Hamilton shoes and really it almost me forget it wasn't Linda Hamilton at times.. jai Courtney plays kyle reese in this terminator film and i think he was pretty damn great..
i know people dont like him as an actor and thats cool. but i never really saw much of his work so maybe that has a factor with my opinion on him as an actor...
i really loved how it changed the timeline and the story kicked ass and felt like terminator really brought me back watching terminator again as soon as i see arnold show up i get **** goosebumps...
john connor in this was so awesome and i think hes my favorite actor to play him yet...
the action in this movie was so **** awesome and bad ass and kept me at the edge of my seat the entire movie. that bus scene on the bridge was so **** epic and cool.
i didn't like how they called arnold pops but i eventually got used to it and didn't care... i personally really loved the relationship between kyle and Sarah in this movie how they didn't just fall in love for no reason and cant wait to see them move forward with that in the sequels...
arnold was so **** funny but bad ass at the same time in this movie... he had me cracking up every time he was on screen ARNOLD IS **** BACK!!!!!!! lots of awesome twists and turns and just all in all a really fun as **** movie that will make a terminator fan happy...
i can understand even if a terminator fan didnt enjoy it but i think if you are a fan you will at least have fun with the action scenes and arnold in it himself was **** so cool... the story and the acting was great and the movie was just entertaining and fun as ****...
cant wait to see what they do with a sequel and the future of the franchise in the coming years to come...
HASTA LA VISTA BABY!!!!

"Genisys" while not as brilliant as the first two films, is a vast improvement over the 3rd & 4th movies. Arnold Schwarzenegger proves he is still capable of pulling off being a Cybernetic Organism and steals every scene he is in & both Emilia Clarke and Jason Clarke gave surprisingly good performances as Sarah Connor and John Connor though i will say that Jai Courtney won't win any new fans as Kyle Reese. The action was really fun on a big IMAX 3D screen and I enjoyed this a lot more than Jurassic World mostly because the characters are much better. Expand

Which is a shame since it had some good casting. IGN said Emilia Clarke was miscast as Sarah Connor but she is perfectly tough and badass.
To me it's Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard) who was miscast as Kyle Reese. Courtney was perfect as a jerky villain in the Divergent movies. He's bland when he plays a hero though. However Schwarzenegger slips back into the Terminator role perfectly. J.K. Simmons adds good comic relief as a Detective who believes Connor and Reese's crazy stories about Armageddon and robots. While Matt Smith (Doctor Who) makes small creepy appearances as Skynet.
Despite good action the movie sort of feels like a ride to nowhere. While feeling a little way too familiar despite the story supposed to be being fresh this time around. It feels like Terminator 2 but without a solid plot.
While John Connor's wife Kate Brewster was written out completely. Hell the John Connor character even gets the short end of the stick this time around. Reese cares more than Sarah that John is a T-1000 now. But everyone shoots at him nevertheless and he's blown up multiple times. So one seems too concerned to reverse the process.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My mom could portray a better T-800 than Arnold does in this film, with his cheeky one-liners, gray hair, and--and WHERE exactly did he come from, anyway? And in what timeline does a terminator go back to 8-year old Sarah Connor? There are so many timelines flying around, AND YET, despite sort of comprehending what that means, the script STILL insists that there's a Judgment Day and someone has to go back and stop it. Never mind the current theories in physics.

Warning: Spoilers

I liked the actors but not the acting, which was painfully bad at times. Some of Sarah (Emilia Clarke)'s one-liners are quite dated which puts into question how long the script has been circulating--without a refresh? Who says "What, really?" anymore? It's not even remotely funny today.

The concept of a terminator's skin healing but still aging is ridiculous and stupid and really wrecks your SoD. And, how many terminator models are there anyway? Seriously, how many are needed to infiltrate and kill humans in the war? You really don't need that many.

When Reese goes back in time for the first time, he emerges into a huge mess of a timeline where Sarah knows who he is (and somehow knows exactly when and where he's going to appear so she can save him "in the nick"), with the Pops terminator (I just don't know...), the new liquid terminator, and... and then there's the evil Google OS takeover of the world that somehow knows it is Skynet even though it's a mobile device OS and goes global before it's even released.

Do these guys even know what it means to LAUNCH a new app or new OS? Do they comprehend that the whole plot of the "new & improved" Skynet 2.0 revolves around billions of distributed devices around the world (smartphones, tablets, computers, cars, etc) is what gives Skynet its processing power and allows it to become self aware? But forget all that... before the launch of the new "killer app" to the world, Skynet becomes self aware before launch and begins to radically evolve. So, what was the whole launch thing about again? I forget... if it runs on a single supercomputer, why does it need to be distributed? And if it's NOT distributed, how can it gain power over military computers, including ICBMs?

Argh! Yes, that's a lot of questions. So, assume the writers are unbelievable morons, close your ears and say "Lalalalalalalalalalalaaaaaaaaaa" during the dialog because you'll understand just as much that way.

I don't get how Emilia Clarke looks or acts or is in any way reminiscent of Linda Hamilton. Although... with Daeneris vyying for the Iron Throne, occupied by Queen Cersei, played by ANOTHER version of Sarah Connor (Lena Headey--see The Sarah Connor Chronicles), is that an inside joke by the producers? I can't help but wonder because though I like Emilia Clarke, it makes no sense to cast her in this role. I never bought for one second that she's the tough-as-nails tankgirl she's supposed to be. Then again, Lena didn't quite pull that off either, so, maybe it's appropriate. Now I can't help but wonder if Daeneris and Cersei will make nice and stop trying to kill each other now that they have shared a soul.

I kind of like this film but a second viewing is necessary to decide. There are some real no-nos in the dialog, with unpleasant monologues droning on and on to fill in nonsense that doesn't make sense anyway. I thought it was more fun than Salvation, esp with Chris Bale out of the way. Seriously, is John Connor Irish or isn't he? Why the flip flop? I get that he's Irish. So frigging what? The casting should be done because of the role, not the implied race. Just more stupid... So, I found a lot to be annoyed with, but enough to maybe prop it up after a second watch, though not at full price.

What I saw was a fun bombastic summer blockbuster that was a love letter to its origins, and a mostly refreshing take on an old series. After watching the first two Terminators (3 and Salvation were decent to mediocre at best) a plethora of times, I was somewhat worried what the outcome of a third attempt at a sequel would bring. The threat of an omnipotent Skynet in the form of Genisys was a great idea to push this battered series back into relevance. Plus the action was top notch, and Emilia Clarke was looking as gorgeous as always. Arnold did a stellar job as well, putting as much humanity one can in the boots of a soulless killing machine. Jai Courtney's performance completely surpassed my expectations as well and had great on screen chemistry with both Jason Clarke and Emilia Clarke. The time travel aspects weren't overly complex and were perfectly reasonable considering the massive amount of dissonance in time already caused by the first two movies. The movie is without a doubt worthy of a solid 8.5 for just the astounding set pieces and Arnold Schwarzenegger alone. Jame Cameron was 100% on point when he stated that this movie is the true sequel to Judgement Day. So my recommendation is to ignore the critics and watch this movie with an unbiased view point and you'll have an absolute blast. Expand

Terminator movies are like pizza - even a bad Terminator movie is good. Unless, of course, it is rancid and spoiled. I saw this movie in IMAX 3D on opening night and ended up terribly disappointed.

The acting is cringe-worthy across the board. An early scene with John Conner and Reese looks like an pre-production shot where the actors are simply reciting lines in an unenthusiastic monotone while the techs setup the lighting. And this poor quality is consistent throughout.

I saw an interview with Cameron where he describes Sarah Conner as being tough yet vulnerable, an interesting dichotomy of conflicting character traits. Nope. Not only is the acting terrible, but the character is as one dimensional as she can be. She is also a completely despicable nag. She doesn't come across as tough at all, she comes across as a spoiled brat.

The character of Reese is miscast with Jai Courtney. This guy looks fragile, metrosexual, and not at all interested in Sarah Conner. In fact, as long as lovingly starring into the eyes of a lovier, the scenes he has with John Conner are much more romantic. As Reese is disrobed and prepares for time travel the T800 Arnold looks down at Reese's pelvic region and comments on how little he has to offer Sarah. This doesn't really come across as a joke either, the audience just accepts the T800 is describing Reese's small anatomy. He is bossed around by Sarah constantly throughout the film. Every single time a character in the film refers to the baby making love scene between Sarah and Reese the verb "mating" is used. Not exactly hero material and absolutely nothing like Reese from the original film.

Arnold pops in and out of the scenes when convenient. Several jokes and comments about his age are thrown in. He is referred to as "Pops" by Sarah and Reese. I'll give Arnold the benefit of the doubt and chalk this one up to a bad script, but he doesn't even seem like a Terminator. He just acts like a regular grandfather type figure. This is explained in the film by saying that Sarah has trained him for years to be like a human, so he now doesn't even act like a Terminator at all. He smiles, sarcastically jokes, develops a father-boyfriend rivalry with Reese, and even loves "his Sarah". Not exactly the emotionless cold blooded murdering machine from the first film nor the reprogrammed unit from the second.

The movie shows some potential when the original T800 young Arnold shows up. But if you have scene the trailer, you've seen the scene. It is gone as quickly as it appears. Instead, the movie relies on super-hero type special effects that could just as easily felt at home in Spiderman, Batman, or the Avengers. The bad guy isn't a robot from the future, it's the Sandman.

James Cameron put his credibility on the line by saying that he approved of this film? I hope they paid him well for that endorsement. Fool me once, shame on me...

My main, and biggest flaw with the movie is the films story, it's a mess, the amount of inconsistencies and the fact that it just doesn't make sense after awhile is truly awful. Also the characters are all horribly implemented. After reading the reviews, I was surprised by how much I actually enjoyed this film. The story has some plot holes (and at least one major unanswered question), but even if its script can't hold a candle to the second movie, it's certainly not the least-well-written Terminator film (that would be T3: Rise of the Machines). The effects are suitably cool and the actors are suitably cast. If there's one thing that Arnold S. actually can act like, it's a robot. Perhaps that's the picture's biggest crime - it's just suitable rather than phenomenal. It could be said that the Terminator franchise is like a rock band that peaked with their second album and has never recaptured that perfect sound. But that doesn't mean they don't put out decent records every now and then. Expand

I am really not sure what movie the "professional" critics saw on this one. Most movies I am normally right with them, but I found T5 pleasantly very watchable.

Even though it was just a graze, James Cameron had his fingers in Genisys and you can tell. He even stated this should have been the sequel to T2.

Genisys was far better than the last two. And for the ones complaining about the timeline, T1 with the son sending his" younger than himself" father back made absolutely no sense to start with, so let that go and enjoy a great summer movie.

Should Have Waked Out in First Ten Minutes...Plus Obama Reference?

What a dud...I knew from the moment of the first scene where John and Kyle were talking I should have walked out and never looked back. Dull beyond belief. Wooden acting. Terrible writing. Stupid, stupid dialogue. (And note, I'm not one prone to hyper-criticizing) .

Two things..

1) It hit me that this movie would probably be perfect for the Twilight or Hunger Games crowd...Some action with louuudddd noises...stilted dialogue...and cheesy interactions. Very adolescent all the way around. Good for them

2) I took away a point that I wonder if others would see too.

Cyberdyne is run by two african americans who are behind Genisys. It's supposed to be a game changer...change the world for the better...and really it's out to destroy the country.

I couldn't help draw the parallel to the Obama administration policies that are sold as improvements and just to society...but are having the unintended consequences of weakening and undermining great systems that work well. Not perfect. But work overall. And they are the foundation of our economic successes and the societal successes that have happened.

Anyone agree?

I absolutely love this reboot. It had cool Easter Eggs in it too. I was fully entertained. Also LOVED that Mr. Arnold was in it as much as he was. One day he may not be able to be and us Terminator fans will have to be ready for that. But atI absolutely love this reboot. It had cool Easter Eggs in it too. I was fully entertained. Plenty of remix of the original content, with just enough impressive flashbacks that took me right to it's debut at the Movies. An excellent reboot of the series which introduces new models, recreates some classic scenes and even rewrites the timeline. If you enjoyed the first two movies, you'll enjoy this one as well. If you haven't watched the first four, I recommend a refresh. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I went to watch this movie after seeing the very low score it has I didn't expected a good movie. However I really enjoyed it, I don't know why it has such negative reviews. Loved the actors and the story twists are great! The film can be better but it is way better than the previous one. It's a good film! Expand

Expand

Way better than expected based off poor marketing campaign. What they gave away in spoilers did hurt it a bit. This is gonna sound crazy but if u really like salvation you'll prolly think this is the best one in the series.

Very dissappointed Sarah Conner was played by a kid who thought she was all that and spolied the movie and then John Conner played by a ghost busters guy. No could n't stand that girl in the role
