Complete and total mess. No one even tries to save this awful drivel. Lots of plot holes, bad acting, bad story.
Just avoid.

A total cash grab. A product from a studio that decided to erase the two first excellent movies in a convoluted, muddled, badly acted and terribly written two-hour mess.

Depressing. 2/10.

Terminator: Genisys starred Jai Courtney (Jack Reacher) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (Terminator, Terminator 2, Terminator 3, Predator, True Lies, Raw Deal) and it was a mess, the story was all over the place and none of the characters were likeable. Terminator: Genisys drags on into a boring dull mess with timelines all over the place, cringey smiles from Arnold Schwarzenegger and the villains sucked. The action was rubbish and the film was crap and boring so it was disappointing. Shall not watch it again and is a weak addition to the Terminator franchise! Expand

This film was basically a Terminator for people who've either never a Terminator film before, or aren't fans of Terminator films (specifically referring to the first 2 films).

When you go full trigger happy on fan service, that it ruins the movie instead of enhancing it... Also what does genisys mean?

I also like the original take on the story. Some of the action scenes are very good. The formula is pretty tired though, it doesn’t feel like anything original. The effects are mostly good but it does have a video game CGI feel, especially towards the end. They focus on the relationship between Sarah and Kyle which leads me onto what I hate most about the film. The casting is terrible. They replaced all the main characters with different actors except for the actual terminator. The new cast for Kyle, Sarah and John are nowhere near as good or memorable as the another of the other people that have played them. Kyle especially is a horrible miscast and is genuinely bad in the role to the point I wanted one of the terminators in one of the timelines to get him! Also, the pacing is not great, some really dull moments. Expand

This film is the worst I've seen all Summer. I didn't shell out the bucks for 3D or IMAX, and was so pleased I went that route. It fails in large part due to the writing. The script muddies the waters so badly that nothing, not even Arnold's performance, can survive the maddening confusion that continues to build to the very end of the film. Yes, the CGI is good, but it too is weakened by the frustrating story line. The support characters are played by good actors, but like Arnold, they are washed out by the terrible script. If you must see it, wait for the cable release. Expand

It lacks any intelligence or thematic elements that made the first two masterpieces and, more importantly, it's not that fun. While it was good that Arnold was back in his T-800 form, Emilia and Jason Clarke, usually great actors, are completely miscast as Sarah and John Connor. The CG, however, is terrible. I was skeptical from the trailers regarding this film, and I was not disappointed. This film sucks and was a waste of my time and money. Hopefully they cancel any kind of sequels in place, because it already has killed the franchise. Expand

Believe it or not I actually went in hoping for the best, but this is, without a doubt, the absolute nadir of the Terminator franchise. And a few call backs to the first two films, and some big budget explosions, don't mask the fact that this is a Terminator film with no direction, no future, and no clear ideas. Arnold tries hard, but even he doesn't seem like he has his heart fully in this one, and the rest of the main cast are just trainwreck awful.

It's like someone saw the Sarah Connor Chronicles and thought they'd do the same thing, only on a much bigger budget, and without an ounce of the creativity or intelligence (and that show was hardly perfect to begin with). And still managed to somehow screw it up.

Honestly, it's not even that its out and out 'worst film ever' levels of awful, as much as it is so manufactured and mediocre and soulless that it somehow manages to be twice as disappointing as it would have been if it had just plain sucked. After all, one can ignore a truly bad film, but a mediocre film that shows the odd spark of what might have been, but never does anything with it, that's just depressing. And for this Terminator fan, depressed is exactly how I left the cinema.

After Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation, I really thought we had hit bottom already, but apparently not.

There is no originality here, it is just a mishmash of bits from T1 and T2. Horrible script and uninspired acting throughout. Emilia Clarke wasn't terrible as Sarah Connor hence the 1/10 as opposed to the 0/10 it truly is. Arnold is relegated to being the bumbling old idiot and the magic is unfortunately gone from him. J.K. Simmons makes a nice cameo appearance but everyone else is just living in HAM city. Do not support this rubbish, I feel awful for simply renting it. Expand

Terminator Genisys is undoubtedly one of the worst movies of 2015, if not the worst. Generating a massive hype for the "rightful sequel to T2," Terminator Genisys has a terrible plot, terrible fights and terrible characters. Emilia Clarke is NOT Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney is NOT Kyle Reese, and Arnie is NOT Pops, wait, what?...

Out of all the bad actors (see Doctor Who's MATTHEW Smith, that's right, MATTTHEW Smith), Jason Clarke isn't actually all that bad as John Connor. He could have been better, of course, but there's not much wrong about him. Arnie could've shone if he had a decent script (apparently "nice to meet you" will stick like "I'll be back" and "hasta la vista, baby"), but failed miserably. And, prepare to see Skynet, as an app, go through puberty! Yay!

I'd avoid this one. Even if you wanted to see how completely and utterly horrible it was, believe me, it's much worse.

Haven't they milked the franchise enough yet? Was this mess of a movie *really* necessary?

Nothing in this movie makes sense, it feels as if they couldnt decide between 5 different scripts and ended up taking a page of each.

At no point did anyone expect this to be any good, the trailer saw to that but I don’t think anyone could predict how bad it truly is. There are no adequate words but I’m gonna go for it anyway. So Arnie is back (in his many forms) to do what he does best, except this time he’s called Pops, now if this wasn’t a warning bell it pretty much explains why the rest of the movie was so terrible. Not only is this film horrifying on its own but it has to take Terminator 2 and in particular Terminator 1 and drag it through the dirt. It can’t even establish itself as anything new, taking great scenes from the classics and rehashing them hoping the fans will be too caught up in the moment to notice. It singlehandedly destroys the first two Terminator movies and leaves us with this horrendously traumatizing and soul crushing sorry excuse for a movie.
What’s that Arnie? You’ll be back, somehow I don’t think so. You know what I hope the machines do rise up and kill all humans cause if this is the standard for films in the future then I don’t want to be a part of it. Not recommended, I repeat, this film is not recommended for viewing as to do so is not only dangerously infuriating but can also put viewers at risk of potentially giving into the urge to gouge one’s own eyes out. Rant over.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Absolutely terrible. Only good actor here was Arnold Schwarzenegger. This was an absolute cluster f*** that was riddled with plot holes, over the top ridiculous action scenes, mostly unlikable characters, a bad plot and it made the absolutely idiotic decision to make John Connor imto an evil machine. Genesys is basically Ios that has a hologram thst starts as a kid then becomes an adult when it’s activated. That’s how moronic the plot here is. Dark Fate was bad but not this bad. Expand
