Not the best adaption to the terminator franchise. While it does have some interesting sequences and scenes plus a bunch of great Arnold scenes, it ultimately does nothing to invigorate the franchise and ultimately screws up the timeline in a bad way more than good. This movie was lazy film-making in almost every way, instead of breathing life into the franchise the franchise further pushes the franchise back to the dark ages. If they hope to truly reinvigorate the franchise then they need to take lessons from where Jurassic World succeeds and go to new places with different characters and retire the John/Sarah Conner and Kyle Reese arc.… Expand

Technically well made, big action and spectacle as expected, and Arnold in a welcome return is just fine. The problem is the movie is so confounded with time travel in a story that is mainly retread disguised as reboot sequel that it doesn't make much sense. There are plot holes and flaws. One small one in particular I wondered about is with the filmmakers going through all the trouble of recreating 1984 Los Angeles, with beautifully shot/VFX of the downtown skyline of that era for example, then go and blow a simple detail like LAPD using a collar radio instead of a walkie talkie in that year. A very small flaw yes, but it amounts to sloppy direction. And that amounts to a befuddling story with too much action and not enough well thought out plot in a movie that drags despite the strong franchise base and fun that it has with it.… Expand

Terminator Genisys is like the A Good Day to Die Hard of Terminator movies. It's all action and not enough brains. Which is a shame since it had some good casting. To me it's Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard) who was miscast as Kyle Reese. Courtney was perfect as a jerky villain in the Divergent movies. He's bland when he plays a hero though. However Schwarzenegger slips back into the Terminator role perfectly. J.K. Simmons adds good comic relief as a Detective who believes Connor and Reese's crazy stories about Armageddon and robots. While Matt Smith (Doctor Who) makes small creepy appearances as Skynet.
Despite good action the movie sort of feels like a ride to nowhere. While feeling a little way too familiar despite the story supposed to be being fresh this time around. It feels like Terminator 2 but without a solid plot.
While John Connor's wife Kate Brewster was written out completely. Hell the John Connor character even gets the short end of the stick this time around. Reese cares more than Sarah that John is a T-1000 now. But everyone shoots at him nevertheless and he's blown up multiple times. So one seems too concerned to reverse the process.… Expand

It's a great welcome to see Arnold Schwarzenegger back into real actions after so many guest appearances in other films but the main idea of the overall film leaves an impression of manipulating the time-travelling in X-Men: Days of FutureIt's a great welcome to see Arnold Schwarzenegger back into real actions after so many guest appearances in other films but the main idea of the overall film leaves an impression of manipulating the time-travelling in X-Men: Days of Future Past, solely an easy way to reboot the entire franchise without a proper story line. Less darker than the other four installments, several twists are easily predicted and there is obviously a number of flaws and time paradox when the story progresses but the film is still an entertaining generic sci-fi. The scores of the film composed by Lorne Balfe are rather weak even though co-produced by Hans Zimmer, the performance of Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese is just alright, Arnold as T-800 is still the most entertaining element of the franchise with his fights and adorable robotic expressions but the pacing of the script has caused the lack of emotional engagement with Sarah Conner (Emilia Clarke). James Cameron says that this film is respectful to his first two installments back in 1984 and 1991 but action sequences are nothing new, CGIs do not improve much from previous installments and the visual effects seems a bit video game setting have overall disgraced his compliment.… Expand

My mom could portray a better T-800 than Arnold does in this film, with his cheeky one-liners, gray hair, and--and WHERE exactly did he come from, anyway? And in what timeline does a terminator go back to 8-year old Sarah Connor? There are so many timelines flying around, AND YET, despite sort of comprehending what that means, the script STILL insists that there's a Judgment Day and someone has to go back and stop it. Never mind the current theories in physics.

I liked the actors but not the acting, which was painfully bad at times. Some of Sarah (Emilia Clarke)'s one-liners are quite dated which puts into question how long the script has been circulating--without a refresh? Who says "What, really?" anymore? It's not even remotely funny today.

The concept of a terminator's skin healing but still aging is ridiculous and stupid and really wrecks your SoD. And, how many terminator models are there anyway? Seriously, how many are needed to infiltrate and kill humans in the war? You really don't need that many.

When Reese goes back in time for the first time, he emerges into a huge mess of a timeline where Sarah knows who he is (and somehow knows exactly when and where he's going to appear so she can save him "in the nick"), with the Pops terminator (I just don't know...), the new liquid terminator, and... and then there's the evil Google OS takeover of the world that somehow knows it is Skynet even though it's a mobile device OS and goes global before it's even released.

Do these guys even know what it means to LAUNCH a new app or new OS? Do they comprehend that the whole plot of the "new & improved" Skynet 2.0 revolves around billions of distributed devices around the world (smartphones, tablets, computers, cars, etc) is what gives Skynet its processing power and allows it to become self aware? But forget all that... before the launch of the new "killer app" to the world, Skynet becomes self aware before launch and begins to radically evolve. So, what was the whole launch thing about again? I forget... if it runs on a single supercomputer, why does it need to be distributed? And if it's NOT distributed, how can it gain power over military computers, including ICBMs?

Argh! Yes, that's a lot of questions. So, assume the writers are unbelievable morons, close your ears and say "Lalalalalalalalalalalaaaaaaaaaa" during the dialog because you'll understand just as much that way.

I don't get how Emilia Clarke looks or acts or is in any way reminiscent of Linda Hamilton. Although... with Daeneris vyying for the Iron Throne, occupied by Queen Cersei, played by ANOTHER version of Sarah Connor (Lena Headey--see The Sarah Connor Chronicles), is that an inside joke by the producers? I can't help but wonder because though I like Emilia Clarke, it makes no sense to cast her in this role. I never bought for one second that she's the tough-as-nails tankgirl she's supposed to be. Then again, Lena didn't quite pull that off either, so, maybe it's appropriate. Now I can't help but wonder if Daeneris and Cersei will make nice and stop trying to kill each other now that they have shared a soul.

I kind of like this film but a second viewing is necessary to decide. There are some real no-nos in the dialog, with unpleasant monologues droning on and on to fill in nonsense that doesn't make sense anyway. I thought it was more fun than Salvation, esp with Chris Bale out of the way. Seriously, is John Connor Irish or isn't he? Why the flip flop? I get that he's Irish. So frigging what? The casting should be done because of the role, not the implied race. Just more stupid... So, I found a lot to be annoyed with, but enough to maybe prop it up after a second watch, though not at full price.… Expand

I said it before and Im gonna say it **** MOVIE CRITICS!Not everything they say is right,for Christ sake,Metacritic gave Predator like 3/10 rating and that movie is a Classic with a capital C!This movie is far far better than that piece ofI said it before and Im gonna say it **** MOVIE CRITICS!Not everything they say is right,for Christ sake,Metacritic gave Predator like 3/10 rating and that movie is a Classic with a capital C!This movie is far far better than that piece of **** salvation its not even up for a debate and yeah its far better than the third one Rise of the Machines which I kinda liked tbh its not that bad.Genisys offers you practically everything.There are many funny scenes like the one when Sarah,Kyle and almighty Arnold get caught on the bridge by a police and that police dude says Arnold to get down on his knees lmao and when they have taken their mug shots and that bad boys song comes on,Arnold grins and Sarah is too short for a mug shot.HILARIOUS!And when Arnie tells Sarah and Kyle almost at the end of the movie how he worked in Skynet as an employee but he got fired,after he says he got fired he crushes the door and that gives you an answer why he got fired lmao that was funny as **** movie has nice emotional scenes wih Sarah and Arnold too bad they didnt show more scenes of Arnold and Sarah in their beginnings when she was a kid,their moments…Some action scenes were meh but only like two,first one when that t1000 is driving to the truck and instead Kyle uses that m203 grenade launcher immediately he keeps on shooting at t1000 with bullets,that was kinda weird but ok.And maybe that bus scene was too exaggerating.J.K Simmons did his job but he should have been more on screen and given more character history…Effects were great and at one scene you thought you were watching Star Trek or something.The movie IMO is 8/10 but the lowest rating should be something like 6.5/10 or 7.… Expand

Unnecessary but entertaining. Arnold was good as Terminator of course and I liked Emilia Clarke too as Sarah Connor. Jai Courtney was **** and Jason Clarke was pretty forgettable but the movie itself is pretty entertaining and a lot better than T3.

To be honest, I only chose to go see this movie due to the absence of any new good releases. So that being said and me not being a big "Terminator" type of guy I will give this movie a so-so and stick with the majority on the rating. Terminator Genysis is not hate-worthy or praise-worthy. It entertained me while I was watching and by doing that I guess it got the job done. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. John Connor sends Kyle Reese back in time to protect Sarah Connor, but when he arrives in 1984, nothing is as he expected it to be. The events in Genisys act as a ripple across an alternate universe. What if Skynet got to John Connor? What if a T800 saved a younger Sarah Connor? What if Judgement Day took place in 2017 instead of 1997? Yes there will be plot holes, but with this much fun who cares!

The performances are hit and miss however. Emilia Clarke cannot match the toughness or intensity of Linda Hamilton’s ‘Sarah Connor’, Jai Courtney is still not leading man material as he gives his take on Michael Biehn’s ‘Kyle Reese’ but Jason Clarke’s villainous 'John Connor' is a surprise twist that works. Where does that leave Arnold Schwarzenegger? Surprisingly his screen time is less than expected, with familiar one liners thrown in to keep the audience happy. Still, Arnold plays his role brilliantly. J.K. Simmons comes and goes as the helpful but pointless ‘O’Brien’, Matt Smith and Byung-hun Lee do well in their short roles.

So, what about the action? They are few and far between, but what is here is generic CGI summer blockbuster visuals, nothing that pushes the boundaries like you expect from this franchise. The trailer certainly gave away too much but we get visual references that respect the mythology and even add to it. In the end it’s the character development, exposition and plot that are at the forefront, which is no bad thing if it means we avoid rehashed action set pieces of previous films, which was a worry of mine going in.

Terminator: Genisys is a bold attempt to kickstart the franchise in a new direction. It may lack the cinematic intelligence of James Cameron’s originals, but after tired retreads like 'Rise of the Machines' and ‘Salvation’, this entry in the sci-fi franchise is actually well worth your time.… Expand

“Terminator Genisys” directed by Alan Taylor is the fifth film in the Terminator franchise and sixth in the mythology if you include the cancelled TV show “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” that ran from 2008-2009 on Fox. While the film is not bad per se it is not great either feeling like another rehash of the same old material. If you count the TV show this is now the fourth time the main purpose is to stop Judgement Day and destroy Skynet. This is the inherent problem with the franchise and the reason it should have stopped after “Terminator 2: Judgement Day”. How many times can we watch the same story told over and over again? To make matters worse the plot of the movie borrows heavily from “The Sarah Connor Chronicles”. I feel the series staple of time travel is used to excess in the film. The cast is full of some of my current favorites doing their best to go through the motions on this retread. Emilia Clarke brings her usual strength in a small package that serves her well on “Game of Thrones” to the role of Sarah Connor. She strikes an excellent balance between the young T1 Sarah and the harsh chiseled Sarah of T2. I do appreciate a quick joke in the film about her small stature since she stands just over 5’1” in real life and the rest of the cast towers over her. Jason Clarke really does well with John Connor in the opening act of the film in 2029 but his character somewhat comes off the rails in the latter half of the film. Jai Courtney, as Kyle Reese, keeps getting roles despite having no chemistry with anyone he is ever in a movie with. He brings none of the soul that Michael Biehn brought to the role 31 years ago. For you “Doctor Who” fans blink twice and you’ll miss Matt Smith, billed here as Mathew Smith, in a smaller than I hoped for role that carried a lot of importance but didn’t get a lot of screen time. Also fresh off his Oscar is J.K. Simmons who maybe hadn’t won his Oscar yet when he filmed this because I didn’t even know he was in it until the opening credits rolled. As for Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising his role as the titular terminator there isn’t much for him to screw up here. The motion capture they used for his younger self is much better than it was in “Terminator Salvation” and the reason for him appearing as old as the actor is in real life fits perfectly in the narrative of the film. While the film tries to recapture some of the emotional beats of T2 it comes up a little short and instead focuses on rehashing the same two jokes with his character the whole movie. In the end if you are asking to see it, rent it, or skip it, it really depends on you the viewer. If you are a big Terminator fan that would enjoy a nostalgia trip through the first film or are just looking for a decent popcorn flick then see it in the theater. For everyone else I say rent it. You won’t be missing much even if the Mother of Dragons is in the movie. There is a mid-credit scene so don’t get up and leave once the credits start. It is very brief but once you see it you can go. There is nothing at the end of the credits.… Expand

As a true Terminator fan, having seen each movie and the 3D show at Universal, I can say this movie is average. This movie doesn't tread along the lines of mediocre, yet it lacks what made Terminator so good. It feels as though it was made by Michael Bay. Too much explosions and action to make it what made Judgment Day the best. The CGI was definitely worthy and good. Bad at some moments during action sequences, but overall it was brilliant. Yet it ruined the movie a slight, because it gave the movie less of a real feeling. The helicopter flying was obviously CGI and in Judgment Day, the helicopter flying was REAL. That's what made those scenes so good, was the fact it was REAL.
The story just screwed everything up, adding an alternate timeline. It messed up the ages, dates, and events. It pretend as though Rise of the Machines and Salvation never happened. There was plot holes here and there, many things weren't fully explained. The whole alternate future part of the movie overstayed its welcome. The movie dragged out too long. It would've been better to enhance the story and make it longer, then split it into a part 1 and a part 2. It felt rushed along to fit everything in.
The casting I felt was average. They did good for Sarah Connor and of course having Arnie return. Kyle Reese and the T-1000 weren't the best of choices. John Connor was good the 2nd half of the movie and gave off a lame vibe the 1st half. None were bad actors to say, but they didn't fit the roll that well. Kyle Reese looked nothing like Michael Bien. And well John Connor looks different all the time, but the actor didn't fit the roll.
I found myself shaking my head at some decisions they made during the film. Such as the ending and some parts near the ending. It got excessive with the choices they made, like "Did they seriously do that?" The comedic elements was actually surprisingly good. No one liners to make history, but the jokes were easy to find and laughable.
I went into this movie with low expectations. I came out satisfied, and I find it a worthy entry into the Terminator franchise. It sets up a sequel following this movie, and that's something I don't like. Maybe they will clear up some plot holes, I don't know. But overall I would recommend this movie and I will go and watch it again. It is average, but honestly it really isn't a waste of time. This movie deserves more than the critics are giving it. Don't believe those that rate it horribly and say it isn't a good movie. Cause it really is good, I will defend it till the end.… Expand

This movie isn't great, but neither is it as bad as some reviews would have you believe.

The film begins with some good old nostalgia for the first movie, before setting us off a new terminator adventure. This is the strongest part of the film
Arnold is fast becoming a parody of himself, and this is evident here, but it almost adds a charm.

The latter part of the movie is a special effects-a-thon, reminiscent of something Michael Bay would produce.

As an aside note, there is no need for the 3D version… Expand

A solid action film in general, better than 3 and Salvation but not on par with 2. Some unnecessary soppy scenes but altogether character progression was ok.

An utterly ridiculous parody of itself, this is a stupid but somewhat enjoyable film. Arnie delivers some excellent one liners, and there are so many in jokes for fans of the franchise, you can't help but laugh along. This is the first Terminator movie I've seen. I found it to be a bit confusing at times. The acting was very average and the dialogue was bad in some scenes. Honestly this movie hits on all cylinders. It's certainly better than the last 2 sequels and it would've probably kept the franchise alive had it been the third movie made. Its ok, its not great and its not bad. The good news is, they got the future war scenes down right. Shame there was only 15 minutes of the future war. His stale and lifeless acting would have better been suited to the role of the t-1000.

The alternate timeline characters were not really developed well, I didn't end up caring about the characters as much as I did about the ones in the first and second movie. I ended up thinking the t-3000 had more personality than Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor , combined...

I did come to a realization from the movie, though. Genisys is an operating system to sync up various forms of social media, everything on one platform. Apple products are the same way, social media and devices. Skynet is a Mac!

It's not a terrible movie, but its not great. Its better than salvation but worse than t3... Terminator genisys is, to the terminator franchise, to what the sega cd was to the sega genesis, life support for a dying product (pun intended).… Expand

Emilia Clarke is great in Game of Thrones, miscast as Sarah Connor. The plot line has some smart moments, but sometimes felt like a 'parody' of the Terminator series. Even its action scenes were remixes of better set pieces from part 1 & 2. It's worth a look, entertaining in parts but simply too convoluted for its own good. My main, and biggest flaw with the movie is the films story, it's a mess, the amount of inconsistencies and the fact that it just doesn't make sense after awhile is truly awful. Also the characters are all horribly implemented. Yet other-all i cant say i wasn't entertained, because it was a fun film, also the return of Arnold Swarenager really is the films Charm, it is the greatest part of the film besides the action. I think its safe to say that the film is a good time killer if yur board and just wanna watch **** blow up. Otherwise it is a disappointing squeal to an already damaged property, i think its time for Terminator to die, nobody seems to know what they are doing with the franchise.… Expand

Were these guys stoned wen the made this move. Turning this into an alternate reality is not the good way to make a film. It was like a poor remake of Terminator 3. Please kids don't do drugs. And if you do drugs please do not make action films.

What is there to say really. They're cashing in on Arnie's and the Terminator franchise's popularity. The casting choices are all very bad and basically put popular/pretty actors in roles they don't fit. The plot is a big giant mess. But IWhat is there to say really. The movie itself is alright but the storyline jumps a lot and it's just way too confusing to keep up with all of it and it has the cliche of a love story kiss at the end of the movie but the action was good.

The Good: The idea and initial concept is a great one. It really felt like an old school Terminator film (finally) for the first 45 minutes or so. Re-visiting 1984 and showing us more of what the future is like were definite highlights. I was dubious about Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising the role of the T-800, but he actually does an amazing job and was at the top of his game. I'm not usually a fan of Jai Courtney, but he was solid in his portrayal of Kyle Reese. The true standout though was Jason Clarke, who played John Connor. The previews and trailers give it away, but he is ultimately the main antagonist of the film and is among the better ones that the franchise has had. Byung-hun Lee's part was small and without many lines, but he was excellent as a re-imagined T-1000, the shape-shifting Terminator from the second film. For about 1/3 of the film, my reservations dissipated and I found it to be an enjoyable and wildly entertaining film.

The Bad: Sadly, they could not keep up that pace as the movie degenerated into "Rise of the Machines" territory. The story slips and never regains it's early glory, becoming somewhat nonsensical and bland. While the first third of the film entertained, the second act was average at best and the last third was awful. The ending was also unsatisfying and doesn't fill me with hope about the future sequels that are already in the works. Emilia Clarke is also definitely no Linda Hamilton and while she tries REALLY hard, she just doesn't pull off Sarah Connor at all. Lastly, some humorous elements were crammed into the film and they felt ill-timed and out of place. The first films have a bit of dry wit to them and it works. Here though Clarke, Courtney, and even Schwarzenegger are chock full of one liners and groan inducing jokes.… Expand

I had my doubts with Genisys ever since the title of the movie "Genisys" wasn't such a great title and the fact that the teaser trailer for the movie gave away the biggest plot twist in the movie, I mean the trailer showed way too much and spoiled the film for me. The other thing that made me less exciting for the movie is the fact that movie is saying that the first and second movie never happened and this is the true Terminator movie, f**k this I thought. My hope for this movie for being decent slowly went down as every time I hear some news from the movie is it's something to do with the cast or the little plot rumors.

But after seeing the movie it isn't all that terrible as I thought it was going to be, but it's not great.

Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as are favorite robot bad-ass and he brought he's one liners. Arnold is the most likable bad actor of all time and his slowly turning into an action hero icon. In this movie he once again nails it as the fearless but likable Terminator. I can't imagine anyone else playing the Terminator but only Arnold because it's the right role for him because well Arnold can play a robot really well and he's not even acting. Awesome work Arnold.

T-1000 is back in this movie but not for very long and it did feel out of place for T-1000 to be there, it like the film makers just threw him in there to remind you of T2, but I got to say that the run time of his screen time is the most enjoyable part of this movie. What the movie did well is making the T-1000 scary and dangerous again just like in T2, I mean T-1000 is the best villain in movie history and I'm happy they didn't screw the character up. Now after thinking about it and I did enjoy the T-1000 in the movie, but I have to admit the T-1000 didn't really need to be in this movie, I mean he's screen is very short and he wasn't very useful to the story; he was just throw there just to start the next action screen. If they just cut him out of the movie it wouldn't have made no difference at all and it wouldn't really effect the story. Now to those who haven't seen the movie and wondering why the T-1000 is in the movie well it's because I guesting he's been hunting down Sarah Conner maybe? but in the movie you first see the T-1000 designed up as a police officer driving around the dark streets like most officers do when it's night time to protect the streets at night, but anywhere he came across Kyle Reese as he steals a homeless mans cloths. Anyone remember in the original when Kyle was chase by that police officer in the opening well here it's changed because Kyle knocks him over and ask what year is is and T-1000 attacks him just like that. Okay here's the thing how did it know it's him? I mean you could think they sent another one back in time to hunt both of them down, but Skynet doesn't know that Kyle Reese is the father of John Conner or even know what he looks. I mean if it's been waiting how did it know that's the spot he's going to jumped off at, what if Kyle landed somewhere else? I know I went there and it may seem pointless to some but I seriously needed to get that out there somehow. Some people tell me to just enjoy the movie and don't think about stuff like that, well that's want some lazy moviegoers say just because they can't think themselves.

The one last thing that I can say positive about this movie is the fact that it's much better then Terminator 3. Now I don't hate this movie, I actually think it's a okay movie now keep that in mind, but now I'm getting into the problems and it's going to sound like I'm hating on this movie but keep in mind this is the stuff that bugged and why it bugged me.

Now I got nothing against Jai Courtney, I bet he's a nice guy in real life, but he is seriously not a good actor at all and him playing Kyle Reese was a huge miscast. At times I kept thinking he was a robot because of how robotic and wooden he was as a actor. I really don't get why he's getting such big roles in big movies, I mean the guy is not good at all.

Now another miscast was Emilia Clarke as Sarah Conner. She didn't do a terrible performance such as Jai Courtney, but all of her senses were quite cringe worthy and really awkward. There were scenes in this movie were Emilia almost did a good Sarah Conner but those scenes don't really last long. She's good in Game of Thrones but here she didn't really wow me in her performance.

The story and the writing were pretty messy. I mean this movie tries to improve things with the Terminator timeline by filling in the plot holes and the gaps, but it made things a lot worse and more confusing as this movie as more plot holes then the other Terminator movies. The movie is trying to redone the first and second movie by saying it never happened as the timeline as changed, but the real question is why change the first movie and the squeal? Leave those two movies alone. Why can't they do a Day of Future Past on Terminator 3, I would have been fine with that and it would have been a sorry letter to the fans of last two movies, but changing 1&2...no.

The actions scenes in the movie were fine and entertaining enough, but it didn't really wow me that much. It's mostly quick cuts and some of the action has been shown too much in the trailer so I wasn't all that trilled to see them as every clip and trailer showed most of the action scenes. The action isn't terrible but it was decent.

They where scenes in the movie were the re-create some scenes from the 1984 Terminator movie and it didn't really feel right. It felt weird and not the good weird.

Oh and Matt smith is in the movie...for six minutes and that's it.

Overall Terminator: Genisys has it's pros and it's cons. I say it's better than Terminator 3 but Terminator 2 still knocks this movie out of the park and still will be the classic 90's action film.… Expand

The humour was so bad at this movie. Jai Courtney did a terrible job being Kyle Reese. He had no expressions on his face. On the other hand there were some positive aspects to it too. Arnold was the best thing in the whole movie. Jk Simmons character had a good potential and was wasted. The war scenes looked great better than salvation. Matt smith's character was really interesting but didn't show enough. The action scenes were sort off entertaining.

In the end terminator genisys is an another wasted opportunity . People who haven't seen 1and 2 will definitely love the movie. As of the hard core fans of T1 and T2 we just have to wait for a few more years for James Cameron to get the rights back.… Expand

It had its moments tho, with R-nold camping it up with his trollish face and exagerrated mugging, as if he's now some kind of freak show attraction, which I guess he's always been. He's so old and wrinkled now that it almost makes your eyes hurt and bleed just looking at his craggy old German face.

Makes you wonder about how clueless the people are who would approve of this completely asinine script. Who to blame? The producers, the director? Someone definitely is out of touch with what makes a satisfying and entertaining story.… Expand

If you’ve ever heard of Terminator you can probably guess the plotBottom-line: If you go in with the right expectations, this new addition to the Terminator franchise is kinda fun and actually it warmed me up to the franchise as a whole.

If you’ve ever heard of Terminator you can probably guess the plot of Terminator: Genisys. In the late ‘90’s or early ‘00’s, A.I. was born - yadda yadda yadda - Mankind vs. Machines war. The machines discovered a way to time travel so they sent a robot wrapped in human skin back to kill the mother of the guy who saves Mankind from the war so he is never born. The guy’s name is John Connor and his mother’s name is Sarah. The humans followed suit and sent someone back to save her. That was the first Terminator.

In the second one, the machines sent a liquid metal robot to kill John when he was just a kid. The third one was probably the same. The fourth movie in the franchise was set during the war against the machines, and that brings us to the latest film in the franchise.

It seems like a bunch of movies this summer bank on nostalgia to draw in audiences and Terminator Genisys is no exception. The film’s introduction uses fancy graphics to explain the premise of the series. There is a battle sequence while the humans take over the Machines’ time machine and then they send Kyle Reese (Courtney) back in time. Reese’s arrival in 1984 is a reenactment of the first film up until another liquid metal terminator reveals itself. Sarah Connor comes driving in and saves the would-be hero from the future.

I can’t really go into too much detail actually without giving away major plot points but the crux of the movie comes down to the fact that by sending people to the past, it actually changes the future.

I suspect there are two reasons why people will see Terminator Genisys: Arnold and action. Arnold is getting older but the movie finds a way to work that in; the skin around the machine is human skin so it ages. Boom. Done. They also have a running line that’s kind of endearing. “Old…but not obsolete!”

The action is pretty standard. There are lots of explosions and characters are only injured when it is needed for the plot. They withstand car crashes and fist fights and explosions that would maim anyone else but when a random character shoots them in the leg, they’re incapacitated.

Much like the action, everything, be it the graphics, or the dialog, or the plot, is pretty standard. Normally I’d give this type of movie a 5/10 because it doesn’t really do anything that other movies can’t do better. The reason I decided on a two was because of the film’s sense of humor. It’s stuff like the ‘old but not obsolete’ line that makes this movie a fun, pleasant experience. After all, by this point in the franchise I shudder to imagine what it would look like if it took itself too seriously.… Expand

I was really wondering how they were going to use the timeline of events that occurred in those two movies. But it turns out that there was a terminator, a t-1000 on a boat when Sarah Connor was a child. So, screw the rest of the franchise. And "Pops" Arnold's character was there too. How convenient to pump out another prequel/sequel. But honestly, everyone knows "Judgement Day" was in 1997. It's watchable, but just watch the first two terminator movies instead.… Expand

I really liked the premise and the surprises early on. I loved the movie's nostolgia until Reese and Sarah Connor started talking in the getaway vehicle. Reese was extremely whiny. The movie quickly turned into turd once the time travel talk started. Arnold's slapstick was done too much to remain endearing. The writing was just generally poor. The anthropomorphized Skynet was silly and seemed like something from movies and TV from the 80s when audiences were not yet familiar with computers and automated systems. I felt embarrassed for the director when they decided to have a hologram of the anthropomorphized Skynet in a room with no observers.… Expand

But sadly at this point it feels as if the franchise has been back too many times. It fails to bring anything substantially new and instead feels more like a weak rehash of things we've already seen in previous films.

We open the film with familiar ground. In a post apocalyptic war the humans, led by John Connor (Jason Clarke), launch an assault taking out Skynet once and for all. But after their victory they discover that a T-800 (played by a CG Arnold Schwarzenegger and a body double) has been sent back in time to 1984 in order to kill Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and they send Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to protect her. But when he arrives everything is different. Sarah is not the meek helpless person we saw in the first Terminator, but rather a hardened warrior. And the Terminator Kyle is sent to kill has already been taken care of. with the only T-800 left being an aged model who has raised and protected Sarah since her childhood that she calls "Pops" (played by the real Schwarzenegger).

After this we diverge in to needlessly convoluted storyline of time travel silliness involving our leads travelling from 1984 to 2017, dealing with alternating time-lines that correct Kyle's memories and a new Skynet using a new "killer app" to take over the world. At times it's hard to follow and all the complicated time travel is basically the film's way of being able to reset the world and the characters to start a new slate in a more modern setting.

The strongest part of the film probably ends up being Schwarzenegger. Whilst his aged Terminator is obviously just a clever way to get him into the film, the concept of his flesh ageing as any human make sense and his "old but not obsolete" theme is different to what we've seen in previous films and does lead to some interesting scenes of his joints stiffening up mid battle. Plus as usual he does deliver the most laughs in the film through his robot trying to be human routine whilst still able to pull of the imposing figure that made the Terminator great to begin with.

But unfortunately this old Arnie seems to be the only element of the film that isn't a rehash from earlier films. The story is the same mixture we saw in T-2 with Arnie protecting the humans, a theme of whether a robot can love and the heroes attempting to stop judgement day. The only difference being that here the characters are so poorly developed that we don't really root for them the same way we did in previous instalments. Our characters are given such little time to develop that when they go from 1984 to 2017 they never have a single line of dialogue reacting to how different things are in the future.

Then there's the way the film seems to destroy the intimidating presence that Skynet had in the other films. They're defeated so quickly in the short opening with the humans toppling them like domino's, that I was left wondering how they were even a threat to begin with. But worse yet is how the film seems to ruin the intimidating image of the original T-800 from the first Terminator movie changing him from a near unstoppable presence from the first film, into an easily defeated nuisance who's defeated almost as quickly as he is introduced.

When it comes to the fight scenes they're a bit of a mixed bag. At times Alan Taylor proves himself confident of creating a decent action sequence with some of the earlier fight scenes with Byung-Hun Lee set in the 1980's are good creating a cool game of cat and mouse with a T-1000 chasing a helpless Kyle through a clothing store. But other fights just appear as mindless CGI violence looking as generic as you can get. The worst being a helicopter chase which uses some of the worst CGI that I've seen in a blockbuster movie in quite a while with helicopters having a cartoon's concept of physics and look atrociously unbelievable throughout.

Ultimately the film relies only on nostalgia. It tries to remind you of the past Terminator any time it can with half the dialogue in the film being recycled from the other movies ("I'll be back" "Come with me if you want to live" etc.) and relying on tie ins to previous Terminators showing the original T-800 along with the iconic designs of the futuristic metal exoskeletons. But in trying to do this it feels more like a homage to the Terminator films than it does a new instalment. And not a good homage either.… Expand

As sequels go this is one of the poorer ones out there. Ignoring the last two instalments this tries to change just about everything from the first two films, and becomes so confusing its hard to keep up, and even harder to care. This seems to be a consistent issue with a lot of blockbuster reboot movies, as they all tend to bring in previous senior cast members (or popular, trending new ones), let them act out on a bland script with the most preposterous plot twists (I won't spoil anything, but there is a twist to the movie, and boy do these twists go far beyond), and use the rest of the money on car chases or huge fights that involve a lot of, you guessed it, explosions. "Terminator Genisys" is no different from the others, so the question remains; is this predictable movie really worth your green bills?… Expand

Arnold steals the show as a grizzled Terminator protecting yet another version of Sarah Connor in several timelines from several killer bots and the viewers from crying from boredom or confusion. You got to give him the credit for at least making this movie watchable.

The plot is made up by shredding the scripts of the previous movies and then randomly gluing the paper snippets back together. You add a lot of explosions, chases and cgi to the mix to plaster over the biggest plot holes and keep the audience off balanced. Add some boring leads to the mix and Arnold shines even more.

So we have a bad Arnold bot from the first movie hopping back in time to kill Sarah, while both the guy from that first movie and a good Arnold bot of the second movie do the same to prevent that. At the same time the T-1000 liquid killer bot from the second movie makes an attempt as well, being bested by Sarah, the good Arnold bot and the male lead, while the bad Arnold bot makes another attempt on Sarah's life after being restarted by the liquid killer bot, but only to fail again..

After that, we get to hop back again in time to yet another moment in the past or hop forward to yet another timeline. Then we get some sudden intimate moments between the male and female leads, cause well they have to mate at some point to make a hero in the future of their timeline. The male lead messes up his one liners and the female lead looks like a teen and we get some more emotional and intimate moments dished to demonstrate the total lack of chemistry between the leads.

A guy who looks like that engineer dude from the Star Trek Next Generation series makes an appearance as the head of da resistance and the bad computer network is shut down in the future, but not shut down because it is actually downloaded into another bot to survive the shutdown and then turns that engineer head of the resistance dude, who also happens to be the son of the two leads, into another bot that then goes back in time to stop the leads and Arnold from stopping the bad network from destroying the world while at the same time trying to save another son of the leads of another timeline, who isn't their son therefore, from getting killed in the progress.

More stuff follows, some buildings get blown up and the world is saved so the two leads can get it on to make their own hero of a resistance that will never be,as the bad network has been killed in the past already.Of that timeline that is.

After the credits we get a cliffhanger in case someone might plan a sequel in the future that is hopefully less of a mess than this one, but if it isn't let's hope the sequel is in another timeline so we won't have to hear from it ever again in our timeline. Not in future nor in the past.

Just watch Arnold do his thing and have a laugh.… Expand

It´s just not the same. The idea was groundbreaking in its time and those first films were so well done and shocking. Now it just feels like one more of the bunch of average blockbusters. Why doesn't this movie want to be entertaining? It had a winning concept! It could of been so much better than it was! We've gotten much better movies from this franchise, but we haven't had a good one since 2003.

Yes, I liked Terminator 3. Was it campy? Yes, but it had a charm which made it entertaining to watch and had that awesome crane chase sequence(which is probably my favorite action sequence from this series). Terminator Genisys? Nothing at all like T3.

Seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger is great and he's the reason you watch the movie, but his performance seems very subdued. I miss the smart-ass-y-ness of the T3 Arnold, he had the best dialogue. I did like seeing J.K. Simmons and how he decided to take on a different role from what he's used to playing, even though it feels like he disappeared out of nowhere near the end of the film. I loved Linda Hamilton's portrayal of Sarah Connor in T2, so seeing this movie and knowing that it's trying to pass of Emilia Clarke's portrayal of her as how Sarah was in T2, I thought to myself, "REALLY?" She is NOTHING like Sarah was in Terminator 2. She doesn't try to put an effort to replicate Linda Hamilton's portrayal, she's bland. The action scenes are pathetic, there's no "Crane Chase" sequence of the sorts, nothing memorable. Plus, Jai Courtney and Matt Smith just look so uninterested.

All in all, "Terminator Genisys" is such a dull, boring, and so miss-casted sequel, stick with the first three films and stop watching these trashy movies.

P.S.
Yes, I re-wrote my review after I saw this movie made more money than "Mad Max: Fury Road". I was so angry, and a second viewing really didn't help...

The script is so convoluted filled with plot holes and it barely makes any sense, obviously the film is written by people who don't care for the franchise. The film has lackluster action, that's odd because the terminator series has great action scenes, director Alan Taylor does a slick way of directing the action scenes and copying off of James Cameron. John Connor (Jason Clarke) the leader of the human resistance, sends solider Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back in 1984 to protect his mother Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke from 'Game of Thrones') from another terminator assassin, creating an unexpected turn of the events in the timeline; in the first Terminator Sarah is a scared waitress, but now she is a skilled fighter and has her Terminator guardian (played once again by Arnold Schwarzenegger) by her side. With good allies and dangerous enemies Reese sets out on an unexpected new mission: reset the future and prevent Skynet from launching their app before the robot apocalypse starts and destroys mankind. There are many flaws with the movie, Arnold once again is great and brings so much energy and like ability into the Terminator and Jai Courtney was missed cast however he was fine playing Kyle Reese. Emilia Clarke was missed cast as Sarah Connor (she can act but not in this movie) she over does with her performance and Jason Clarke was not a mediocre version of John Connor like Nick Stahl, Clarke can act but doing over doing it as the John Connor character. The film is not cheesy or cliche'd it's confusing as hell and the action is mediocre. Grade C-… Expand

Terminator Genisys is not a complete dud and I will say it’s better that it’s predecessor Terminator Salvation, but that doesn’t change the fact that this film is quite a bit of a mess. I’m not angry I’m just disappointed. I’m not angry I’m just disappointed. It has a plot that basically makes you go “what the hell?” for an hour and a half and basically acts as too many re-makes of Terminator 1 & 2 that don’t really work unless you have actually seen those two! I’m not really a fan of these re-imagining versions of the characters, there is a whole lot that is not really explained and it won’t really warrant repeat viewing because it will only work to further hi-light the amount of plot holes in this film and there’s tons of really heavy handed we rely on technology too much messages in the film. Apart from Matt Smith’s rather interesting turn as a villain for this film, there is not really that much memorable here and I suspect this one will be cast aside to the cusp. Terminator has become like Highlander in that anything that came after it, they only got a brief stint at being very good and everything that followed, has sucked. This film keeps up the tradition. The action scenes are very decent, but they are very repetitive and the film’s effects really vary in quality, not to mention the acting isn’t entirely par. I especially did not like Kyle Reese in this film and what they did to John Connor was almost inexcusable.… Expand

Instead of being merely forgettable the story actually makes you stop and think - wait, this makes no sense. So you can't even enjoy it as a dumb popcorn flick.

There were some genuinely funny bits in this film, but as I write this merely a day after having seen Terminator: Genisys there is nothing memorable that sticks to my mind. With a 26% score on Rotten Tomatoes I expected it would have at least something in the film to hate and rant about it but the film is entirely forgettable.

Other reviewers have remarked that Arnold Schwarzenegger was the best part of the movie and I would have to agree with that opinion. Here he was a lot more interesting than in Terminator 3 and if you are a fan of that character you might be interested in seeing this film. But for fans of the Terminator series I would not recommend this film. Especially if you, like me, loved the second film.… Expand

From the mythology and characters of the original, to the scale and dynamics of “T2″ and the lighter nature of Terminator 3 plus the CGI that re-created young T-800 in ‘Terminator Salvation’ and memorable lines from all previous ‘Terminators’, this film feels like a movie made by committee with as many boxes ticked as possible and with little risk taken, particularly if you consider that a reboot has the same actor playing the same central character.

But the most offensive element of ‘Terminator Genisys’ is not its lack of creativity and reliance on nostalgia, it’s the ungainly storyline that features alternate and converging timelines and a narrative so convoluted it almost covers over the huge plot-holes and disparate elements that must be brought together, with the stakes set so high in the story, it’s remarkable how in the end the audience can care so little about the conclusion to all this mess.

This film is not completely without merit, there is an attempt at a cautionary tale about dependence on interconnected technology, but this gets lost in the quagmire of the story, the action set-pieces and CGI are impressive but not enough to sustain interest for 2 hours and nothing we haven’t seen before, but despite the scene in “T2″ never did we think that the T-800 Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 would actually become “uncle Bob”.

The Bottom Line…
Despite plenty of action sequences and the return of “Arnie”, ‘Terminator Genisys’ is an unnecessary and unmemorable addition to the franchise relying heavily on nostalgia without offering anything you haven’t seen from your typical modern Hollywood action-blockbuster.… Expand

Terminator movies are like pizza - even a bad Terminator movie is good. Unless, of course, it is rancid and spoiled. I saw this movie in IMAX 3D on opening night and ended up terribly disappointed.

The acting is cringe-worthy across the board. An early scene with John Conner and Reese looks like an pre-production shot where the actors are simply reciting lines in an unenthusiastic monotone while the techs setup the lighting. And this poor quality is consistent throughout.

I saw an interview with Cameron where he describes Sarah Conner as being tough yet vulnerable, an interesting dichotomy of conflicting character traits. Nope. Not only is the acting terrible, but the character is as one dimensional as she can be. She is also a completely despicable nag. She doesn't come across as tough at all, she comes across as a spoiled brat.

The character of Reese is miscast with Jai Courtney. This guy looks fragile, metrosexual, and not at all interested in Sarah Conner. In fact, as long as lovingly starring into the eyes of a lovier, the scenes he has with John Conner are much more romantic. As Reese is disrobed and prepares for time travel the T800 Arnold looks down at Reese's pelvic region and comments on how little he has to offer Sarah. This doesn't really come across as a joke either, the audience just accepts the T800 is describing Reese's small anatomy. He is bossed around by Sarah constantly throughout the film. Every single time a character in the film refers to the baby making love scene between Sarah and Reese the verb "mating" is used. Not exactly hero material and absolutely nothing like Reese from the original film.

Arnold pops in and out of the scenes when convenient. Several jokes and comments about his age are thrown in. He is referred to as "Pops" by Sarah and Reese. I'll give Arnold the benefit of the doubt and chalk this one up to a bad script, but he doesn't even seem like a Terminator. He just acts like a regular grandfather type figure. This is explained in the film by saying that Sarah has trained him for years to be like a human, so he now doesn't even act like a Terminator at all. He smiles, sarcastically jokes, develops a father-boyfriend rivalry with Reese, and even loves "his Sarah". Not exactly the emotionless cold blooded murdering machine from the first film nor the reprogrammed unit from the second.

The movie shows some potential when the original T800 young Arnold shows up. But if you have scene the trailer, you've seen the scene. It is gone as quickly as it appears. Instead, the movie relies on super-hero type special effects that could just as easily felt at home in Spiderman, Batman, or the Avengers. The bad guy isn't a robot from the future, it's the Sandman.

James Cameron put his credibility on the line by saying that he approved of this film? I hope they paid him well for that endorsement. Fool me once, shame on me...… Expand

1983 was a VERY long time ago but the thrilling low budget grainy video of The Terminator seems light years ahead of this 2015 Grandpa terminator played for laughs and cheap cgi.
A laughably bad script, wooden acting so bad that old Arnie isn't the worst actor for a change, and pitiful tv style sets.......

Terminator Genisys is not in the same league as the first two films in its franchise. I think that this film shows that the franchise just needs to be put to bed or the rights need to be returned to James Cameron. The film is no where near as action packed or as fun as the first two films and even Rise of the Machines. Arnold Schwarzenegger is almost the sole actor that feels like his is in his element here and the other actors in the main cast seem to be misplaced. Terminator 5 is flat, uninspired and I just couldn't care less about most of the characters. The writing is really spotty and the film seems to be relying more on a lame romance than the action that wins over the audience. Terminator Genisys is a complete disappointment.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. a franquia exterminator do futuro acabou em 1992, com uma obra prima dirigida e escrota por james cameron, depois veio exterminador 3 que ate tem algum sentido mas aimda assim um filme ruim, depois os direitos de exterminador fiacaram girando e rodamdo em varias maos ate sair exterminador a salvaçao, que ate tenta ser inovador, mostrando como é o futuro de john connor e seus aliados, mas mesmo com toda essa tentativa de mostrar algo diferente foi um filme mais ou menos. agora nas maos da paramount e da skydance, saiu o exterminador genisys, um filme que nao se leva a sério em algums momentos, por exemplo no ínicio do filme, o roteiro nos leva de volta 1984, no mesmo ambiente do primeiro filme, o que deixou muito empolgado todos os admiradores da série, mas depois de um até entāo bom primeiro ato, temos um roteiro bagunçado que não sabe, o que fazer com a história do filme, mesmo com o avassalador marketing das produtoras e arnold fazendo muitas coletivas de impressas e varios eventos, nao ajudaram a levar o público para esse filme que nem ao menos devia existir, esperemos entâo até 2019, ano que os direitos desta franquia de ( dois ótimos filmes ) volta ao criador james cameron.… Expand

Well, thet finally succeeded in destroying the spirit and essence of the Terminator saga. Even John Connor was not spared this time. Pretty bad, and boring... I don't even remember what the story was about, that's how I uninterested i got, after about 10 minutes. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There are two major problems with "Terminator Genisys": One - the movie is a lie to its own franchise and timeline. Two - its plot has a shotgun hole as huge as the shotguns in the "Teminator" series are usually capable of inflicting.

So, for starters, we're told that SkyNet has gone haywire on August 26, 1997 (instead of the initial 2003 date as revealed in "T3") and that it wasn't a military operations software that every computer was hooked up to, but rather some missile launch program... that apparently the rest of the countries didn't have anti-missile defenses from. Wow. Next, we're introduced to Kyle Reese, who, despite being one of John Connor's most trusted soldiers, is somehow supposed to prove to John that he's "the worthy one" because... he had a pic of John's mother hidden in his locker? ...What? Why would John give his mom's photo to one of his soldiers WAY before sending him through time? Was he aware that one of them would be his dad? I thought Sarah never told John who his father was. Then, Kyle finds out that the time he arrived in was changed because that's why, and now he has to undergo another time travel together with the woman he's supposed to protect because the voices in his head told him so. You know, the original, the REAL Kyle Reese had to protect Sarah not only because of who she was, but eventually because he fell in love with her. And he didn't die because the timelines collapsed into one another, he did it to sacrifice himself to save his love. Miles away from the true content here, guys.

Though the second issue is tons bigger yet. The story goes as to have Kyle and Sarah travel to 2017 because this is where the alternate SkyNet (who knows its name is SkyNet, even though in this timeline the SkyLabs technology wasn't invented at all) is supposed to activate as "Genisys" (even though people are bragging on about how great Genisys is already hours before its launch) and take over the world. There they meet alternate John, who isn't really John anymore, bearing the scars from 2025, all while the T-800 Sarah left behind clearly forgot to age (he spent years badassing to the levels of "The Expendables", though). While all these revelations go on in deserted 1984 streets with nobody chasing the fleeing van, or in some hospital/police tower garage where people shoot and point guns at each other while nobody else comes in or out for 10 whole minutes, we get plot elements being spoonfed to us one after another, either through the immortal robot, or through both doves figuring out whether they're in love or not. Which begs the question as to why would a machine that can survive almost anything as good as SkyNet's latest creation even need two people constantly arguing with one another for something it did alone anyway (these two weren't even able to detonate the freaking bombs at the end - just to clarify, we're talking about the same Sarah Connor who got her legs smashed at the factory in the original movie, and yet managed to blow up the Terminator). Throw in some cheap puns, hand gestures, smiling Arnie and the best of SkyNet's machine T-whatever who can imitate blood and being dead, yet apparently never brings it up again. You guessed it - you get "Teminator Genisys"! Yeah!

But even all these things put aside, multiple questions still remain: who was that Asian cop/T-1000 sent to the past to assassinate Kyle Reese in 1984 (the plot-alloy tech wouldn't be developed until 2031 in the original timeline)? How did the good T-800 get to 1973 (and then aged 20 years in just 9 years, and then aged another 9 years in 33 years)? How did John Connor/not-John Connor get to 2017? The list is tedious, time-consuming, and lets you hang on to the question of whether or not there would be another sequel to this mess in its current state (probably...). Well, my answer is simple: please don't. Leave "well enough" alone. And Arnie, you're gold, but... take your earned retirement. Please DON'T be back anymore.

Terminator should have ended with T2. That was an epic final. Each time a new film appears, I wish the end of humanity by robots. Arnold is too old to be terminator once again (with or without CGI).

Badly cast and badly acted sequel. With the exception of Arnold Schwarzenegger, nobody involved looks to be having the slightest bit of fun. Para intentar hacer eso, lo minimo que tendría que hacer, es elaborar un guión sin incoherencias y respetando el canon de TODAS las pelis, no la que le sale de los huevos al guionista, un desarrollo de personajes que no este al nivel de una obra de teatro de primaria , sin sobreexplotar chistes hasta la arcada, no llenarlo todo de clichés chorras que no pegan ni con cola, no recurrir a plagiar momentos dignos de Los Padres de Ella o tener algun momento, memorable. Esta pelicula pues no cumple ningun requisito.

Por supuesto la 3, aunque no me gusta, pero no me desagrada, se come con patatas a este mojón.… Expand

There are not bad action scenes, but they go in the sum of 10-15 minutes, and the rest of the timing goes to dumb dialogues. The most pointless entry in the franchise. Except the air isn't fresh. Starting with the trailer filled with spoilers, ending with Schwarznegger smiling like a kid with cerebral palsy. Jai Courtney is in this movie also. Needless to say, he is wooden and one-dimensional, just like in every movie he starred previously. Emilia Clarke is okay, but unlike Linda Hamilton, her character didn't have an arc, so it's challenging to feel anything for her. Jason Clarke is okay-ish, he is not the worst John Connor we've seen on screen(Nick Stahl). Arnie tries, but the script doesn't ask for anything but campy jokes from him, however, he is still the best part of this movie. The plot is extremely convoluted, and in some way it insults the first two movies by literally inserting James Cameron's scenes from The Terminator into it and having the dumbest T-1000 ever. Once you realize what's going on, you start to despise this movie and pray that Cameron makes a true Terminator 3 and ignores everything that came after Judgement Day.… Expand

I have been watching the "Terminator" franchise for a few days, and I have come to the obvious conclusion that their quality has decreased dramatically, and any comparison between the oldest films and the most recent is almost coincidental.I have been watching the "Terminator" franchise for a few days, and I have come to the obvious conclusion that their quality has decreased dramatically, and any comparison between the oldest films and the most recent is almost coincidental. In this film, the protagonist is time: after a great offensive, John Connor gains access to the time machine built by Skynet and sends Kyle Reese into the past, on a mission to protect his mother, Sarah. We already know this, this was the beginning of the initial film in the franchise. However, when Reese arrives, she discovers that the past has been changed: Sarah Connor already knows everything that awaits her, Reese's arrival was expected and there is a T-800 model protecting her. So, they decide to try to destroy Skynet before it is globally released.

What this movie did was a mess. The temporal paradox created is so strange, confusing and raises so many questions that it is bad to think about it. Other films and franchises also played with the timelines, as did the X-Men with "Days of Future Past", but the care in writing allowed results that, here, cannot be achieved. After some reading, I realized that the production was troubled, and it was not a peaceful and easy effort for any of those involved, so I believe that no one misses the film, starting with the cast, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief when Paramount canceled the next two films.

The script is confusing and poorly written, the characters are almost all merely outlined and underdeveloped. Even so, the film has the merit of trying to escape a little from the usual formula of the "Terminator" films: mass destruction, persecution and a lot of twisted metal. There are, as in the past, efforts for some humorous moments, but they are misplaced and have never been effective. The direction, ensured by Alan Taylor, is an unfortunate effort, as the director had everything in his hands to do a decent job and never got it. It even seems that he felt lost and not knowing what to do, deciding to make a noisy film, with tons of noisy and flamboyant action instead of a darker, tense film, where the threat was truly palpable for the audience. Basically, he gave us a video game.

The cast is quite weak and seems to be acting on its own, without coordination or direction. Arnold Schwarzenegger returns to play the character that made him famous once again, and I have to applaud his effort to look credible, even after so many years. He is clearly a committed actor, who takes his work seriously, and I admire his dedication. I also appreciated Emilia Clarke's effort. Despite being an effort undermined by the terrible material she received and the virtual absence of direction, she worked as hard as she could and made Sarah Connor a more feminine, elegant character. Jai Courtney is annoying and acted randomly. He seems lost, not knowing how to play Reese properly. Jason Clarke is obnoxious in every way.

It is on production values and technical aspects that a good part of this film is based, which sounds like an excuse for a noisy action blockbuster. As I said above, the feeling of danger and tension never happens, and everything sounds as artificial as it is. The sound effects are very good and the CGI is good, but it is not exactly impressive. Cinematography is good, and makes good use of landscapes and green screen backdrops, but at times it looks gloomy and with somewhat washed colors. The makeup work and costumes are good, but they are within what was required and do not bring anything surprising. The post-production work was done with some laziness and sloppiness, and the cuts are sometimes sudden and evident. The soundtrack is forgettable and uninteresting, when it is actually used.… Expand

Terminator Genisys is as much of a convoluted mess as its title. It's so weird and ridiculous that it almost becomes interesting. However, the lack of heart and the sub par performances leave a lot to be desired.

PG-13 rating is the least of Genisys' problems. Making time travel the focus of the story was one of the worst decisions ever made.

Mediocre at best. It doesn't know what it want to be. Random comedic scenes are just random. Miscast of characters. Both Sarah and Kyle are just not powerful and gritty enough.
Only entertaining from scene with T1 or T2 references.

Do not try to understand this movie, just enjoy the horrible acting and the mediocre plot. Focus on Arnold, he always makes you laugh. But if you have a choice (and you do), don't spend money on this.

What a dud...I knew from the moment of the first scene where John and Kyle were talking I should have walked out and never looked back. Dull beyond belief. Wooden acting. Terrible writing. Stupid, stupid dialogue. (And note, I'm not one prone to hyper-criticizing) .

Two things..

1) It hit me that this movie would probably be perfect for the Twilight or Hunger Games crowd...Some action with louuudddd noises...stilted dialogue...and cheesy interactions. Very adolescent all the way around. Good for them

2) I took away a point that I wonder if others would see too.

Cyberdyne is run by two african americans who are behind Genisys. It's supposed to be a game changer...change the world for the better...and really it's out to destroy the country.

I couldn't help draw the parallel to the Obama administration policies that are sold as improvements and just to society...but are having the unintended consequences of weakening and undermining great systems that work well. Not perfect. But work overall. And they are the foundation of our economic successes and the societal successes that have happened.

Terminator Genisys was soo bad I feel embarrassed that I initially asked my friends if they wanted to come see it with me (thankfully they were all too busy at the time so only I had to suffer through it). The plot of Genisys is total mess fixed together with duct tape.. even for a story involving time travel, and expected paradoxes and retcons (within a margin of acceptable tolerance) Genisys is just way too absurd.
It feels like the studios are really starting to tarnish the franchise now for the sake of trying to jump-start a haphazard trilogy of PG-13 blockbuster holiday movies (this is the 3rd false-start in a row now).
Terminator Salvation was a better Terminator movie than Genisys and after my initial dissatisfaction with Genisys I resent it even further for retconning the first 2 movies out of existence to pave the way for it's own existence, and I'm disappointed for Emilia Clarke's sake because I like her and I want to see her do well (and it wasn't her fault that this movie sucked).… Expand

Awful film that doesn't need to exist. Fan service is shoehorned in without any rhyme or reason, (wow that Terminator has a cop uniform!), the acting is flat and terrible, the action pointless, and it ruins the timeline of T1 and T2.
