I loved this movie a lot. I prefer this over Salvation because Salvation was an abomination to the franchise. There were some funny lines in the movie. I also loved Hot Pursuit with Reese Witherspoon because I thought it was funny.

this version is completely lazy, ill thought out and horrid, they absolutely wrote out the last three terminators to come up with a movie so convoluted on its own nonsesnse that it takes a huge dump on the entire franchise

What's the standard now for summer blockbusters? If the script is good, usually meaning a team of collaborative writers as with Pixar's best movies, and the production values above average, the movie is pretty enjoyable or perhaps near-great. This certainly describes the Marvel movies of the last five years and Jurrassic World as well.

How can people LOVE Jurrassic World but hate T-Genisys? Jaded audiences?

T-5 is not quite as good as the under-rated T-4, the fable of a Terminator who wished to become a human being. Wonderful storytelling. T-5 is almost this good. Its virtues for me are the tender care and consideration given to Terminator lore and to Arnold in his role. If you liked T-2, you probably liked how the two Terminators crash up a shopping mall. That same wonderful energy of casual destruction of cultural places is duplicated--not imitated--in T-5 when they casually crash up a hospital and police station. Duplicating the look, feel and energy of one of the strongest images of Cameron's T-2 is no small feat.

You'd think the excitement of Cameron's original liquid metal Terminator in T-2 would be hard to duplicate. Allen Taylor's oriental cool and deadly liquid T-2 equals or surpasses the original, again, no mean feat.

So what's not to like? If you liked T1 and T-2, I suspect you'll really like T-5; unless of course, being jaded is a value to you.

IMHO -> nothing special. Good special effects, but simple story and horrible John Connor and Kyle Reese destroyed that movie. Waste of time. Unfortunately.

I have enjoyed all of the Terminator films, but none are great. Examples: 1) There is no believable, meaningful "connection" between Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese in the first film, due to bad acting and even worse dialogue. 2) T2 may be a somewhat better film but it also suffers from some poor acting/scripting/directing (e.g. there's this awkward Sarah Connor voice-over, narration device that gets introduced out of nowhere about halfway through the film-- assuming it was done in order to match tone with the first film?). T3 was forgettable, but not awful.

The new film is everything you would want from a 2015 Terminator movie. Chiefly, the FX and storyline are much improved and updated. I, for one, was curious what modern film FX and even makeup crews could do with the groundwork laid in the original Terminator films (i.e. with the T1000's liquid metal construct and Arnie's endoskeleton). Also, the role of the internet and mobile devices does not play any part in the first 2 films. With it being such an integral aspect of modern society, it was necessary to show how SkyNet could launch in the midst of that kind of world (i.e. the world in which we actually live). Further, the film does a nice job of paying homage (mainly) to the first film, it does a far better job of developing a love story between Kyle and Sarah, and even "humanizes" the Guardian (i.e. Pops, T100) more than any of the other films.

Critics are seemingly bothered by the lack of new ideas coming out of Hollywood. I actually tend to agree. But what I don't understand is their general praise for a film like Jurassic World, which was a completely unoriginal 2015 retelling of Jurassic Park, and their general dislike for Terminator Genisys, which featured an entirely new plot and completely reset the "Terminator" world for new plots in the future (pun intended).

The bottomline is that it accomplishes what it sets out to accomplish. If you don't analyze the plot-holes too much (which, again, are arguably fewer in number than the previous films), you'll find it thoroughly entertaining. Just go into it with modest expectations and without too much cynicism. Again, if you are a fan of the other films in the series and can be honest about their limitations, there is no reason why you would not enjoy this one as well.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm a really big fan of the first 2 Terminator movies, and I think that Rise of the Machines is a bit underrated. Salvation was horrifying, and I feared that Genisys will be the same. And how incredibly wrong I was.

Genysis is WAY better than Rise of the Machines, for me it was on par with the first movie, and only a bit worse than Judgment Day. Certainly the best Schwarzenegger movie since he came back to filming. The story was twisted enough to be fresh, the action was top-notch and the only thing I was disappointed in is that the T-1000 was destroyed too fast. I really wanted a duel between the T-1000 and John Connor (it could explore the fact that the T-1000 can become self aware and give the middle finger to Skynet).

So the movie was great I think, and I would like to ask the critics: what the hell have you watched guys? Seriously, 2.5/10 and 1/10? You have got to be kidding me. Why do I have the feeling, that because of Rise of the Machines and Salvation you gave the movie 2.5 and 1 BEFORE even seeing it? To be honest, I got to the point, when I'm thinking that I don't care about the international critic reviews anymore.

So my message to everyone who saw the previous Terminator movies: forget Salvation, and see this. You won't be disappointed!

Should Have Waked Out in First Ten Minutes...Plus Obama Reference?

What a dud...I knew from the moment of the first scene where John and Kyle were talking I should have walked out and never looked back. Dull beyond belief. Wooden acting. Terrible writing. Stupid, stupid dialogue. (And note, I'm not one prone to hyper-criticizing) .

Two things..

1) It hit me that this movie would probably be perfect for the Twilight or Hunger Games crowd...Some action with louuudddd noises...stilted dialogue...and cheesy interactions. Very adolescent all the way around. Good for them

2) I took away a point that I wonder if others would see too.

Cyberdyne is run by two african americans who are behind Genisys. It's supposed to be a game changer...change the world for the better...and really it's out to destroy the country.

I couldn't help draw the parallel to the Obama administration policies that are sold as improvements and just to society...but are having the unintended consequences of weakening and undermining great systems that work well. Not perfect. But work overall. And they are the foundation of our economic successes and the societal successes that have happened.

Anyone agree?

It has a plot thatTerminator Genisys is not a complete dud and I will say it’s better that it’s predecessor Terminator Salvation, but that doesn’t change the fact that this film is quite a bit of a mess. I’m not angry I’m just disappointed. It has a plot that basically makes you go “what the hell?” for an hour and a half and basically acts as too many re-makes of Terminator 1 & 2 that don’t really work unless you have actually seen those two! I’m not really a fan of these re-imagining versions of the characters, there is a whole lot that is not really explained and it won’t really warrant repeat viewing because it will only work to further hi-light the amount of plot holes in this film and there’s tons of really heavy handed we rely on technology too much messages in the film. Apart from Matt Smith’s rather interesting turn as a villain for this film, there is not really that much memorable here and I suspect this one will be cast aside to the cusp. Terminator has become like Highlander in that anything that came after it, they only got a brief stint at being very good and everything that followed, has sucked. This film keeps up the tradition. The action scenes are very decent, but they are very repetitive and the film’s effects really vary in quality, not to mention the acting isn’t entirely par. I especially did not like Kyle Reese in this film and what they did to John Connor was almost inexcusable. Expand

Shame there was only 15 minutes of the future war. However, the actor they got to play Kyle Reese was not suited to the role. His stale and lifeless acting would have better been suited to the role of the t-1000.

The alternate timeline characters were not really developed well, I didn't end up caring about the characters as much as I did about the ones in the first and second movie. I ended up thinking the t-3000 had more personality than Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor , combined...

I did come to a realization from the movie, though. Genisys is an operating system to sync up various forms of social media, everything on one platform. Apple products are the same way, social media and devices. Skynet is a Mac!

It's not a terrible movie, but its not great. Its better than salvation but worse than t3... Terminator genisys is, to the terminator franchise, to what the sega cd was to the sega genesis, life support for a dying product (pun intended).

Above all, the way terminator has become so liquid metal, it'sbecoming not gory movie, that's how people so upset. I mean, "Hey! It's about Terminator, we're not wanting this kind of so sweet-chat two lovers." Yeah, people hate it because it has MARVEL level.
But, anyway if we put the 'thing' separate from the whole plot, it's actually a smart plot and great directing. I love how the whole actions remind me of Jurassic Park *can it be Spielberg behind of this movie?*
The action also brilliant *besides the trailers problems*. I didn't watch the trailer at all, just a teaser then I stop. I've been there when those so many trailers for one movie releasing and cost me to see much spoiler. So, it's absolutely the advertisement fault.
Well, because I didn't fall to those much trailer spoilers, I really enjoyed this movie. It has fresh story about Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor, and of course, our beloved John Connor.... that mostly I respect this movie writer and director to give a brilliant conclusion for John Connor's fate. It's brilliant, lets face it. It's just less gory.
I tweeted, "#TerminatorGenisys I am glad I've watched Predestination, Spaceballs, Free Birds, and HISHE Terminator Back to The Future. #justsaying."
It has funny script, yes. I like Kyle Reese version from Jai Courtney, Sarah Connor version from Emilia Clarke, and *damn* I really want the sequel because our beloved Dr. Who is tricking me! I want the sequel for him!

So, please, please if they want to make a sequel, just, just don't reshuffle the cast. It's not Spider-Man, right? Just, stop change the casts!

The problem is the movie is so confounded with time travel in a story that is mainly retread disguised as reboot sequel that it doesn't make much sense. There are plot holes and flaws. One small one in particular I wondered about is with the filmmakers going through all the trouble of recreating 1984 Los Angeles, with beautifully shot/VFX of the downtown skyline of that era for example, then go and blow a simple detail like LAPD using a collar radio instead of a walkie talkie in that year. A very small flaw yes, but it amounts to sloppy direction. And that amounts to a befuddling story with too much action and not enough well thought out plot in a movie that drags despite the strong franchise base and fun that it has with it. Expand

T-800 rules and makes as laugh with his gained humanity, Kyle and Sarah have a funny love story and action sequences are very good. How not to like this? The action in the film was done very well, and unlike other big films that come out, the love and detail that has been put into the CGI is fantastic. There was never a moment where I became concious of the fact that the CGI or any of the action sequences seemed out of place or poorly done. It all blended in very well together.

It's difficult within a classic franchise to have different actors playing as certain characters. You would want Linda Hamilton playing as Sarah Connor, and all the other original actors back in, but of course sometimes this can't always be the case.

I am really glad they picked Emilia Clarke as she looks very much like a younger Sarah Connor or Linda Hamilton should I say. I think she played the part perfectly. Arnold of course did a fantastic job, making subtle joke references to his age and making a few other references to the older films as well which was great.

As for Jai Courtney, who was a very important piece to the role did a good job as well but I wish his character seemed a little more out out of place, and surprised to be back to where he ends up.

Overall I think Terminator: Genisys is definitely worth watching despite the critic reviews. If you're a big fan of the first two or three films. I think you would need to watch them first though to understand Genisys a little more.

Which brings me to the reason its possibly getting back reviews ,because people dont know WTF is going on. And you wont know whats going on unless you remember the originals!! Anyway very good movie and 1 of the best if not the best Terminator movie. Expand

For reference I consider T1 and 2 a tie because I like the more dark and thriller like tone of the original movie I would give them both a 9. 3 I would give a 6.5 and Salvation a 6. Today it seems almost impossible to please movie fans with the fact that the special effects can be so amazing now. Movies that have mostly practical effects that are executed at a high level will always trump the fake ass CGI effects that most movies deploy today. The new Terminator seems to have a fair amount of practical effects in it and I overall enjoyed the movie. It was fun especially the first half when they had the nostalgic element running high. The 1984 reimagining was a lot of fun. The new Terminator was really cool and the action scenes were good to me. I was able to follow the story fine. The time travelling thing is getting old and I am ready for them to put that to bed. Have a movie set after Judgement day already finish off Skynet and put this series to bed already. Its like watching the same thing over and over. They've milked the lets come up with an even more bad ass Terminator than the last time and have it come after Sarah, John and Kyle again storyline. If they do another movie like it I will not see it. But once again for a summer popcorn movie and the nostalgia factor I thought the movie was a fun time. Expand

Here's the deal. Ignore the 'critics'. If you enjoyed Terminator and Terminator 2, buy a cinema ticket and go and watch Terminator Genisys.

I actually almost didn't. My other half pressed me into it, after I'd already talked myself out of it. "Go on", she said. "Arnold, your favourite is in it!". I reluctantly agreed, was dragged to the cinema, sat down with my popcorn and for the first 30 minutes I was grinning like a kid. References left right and centre to the earlier films, yet different enough to make it engaging viewing as to where they were going to take things.

I left the cinema very happy indeed that I'd watched it on the big screen and, unlike some other films recently, I'd definitely pay to go back and watch it on IMAX.

Ignore the "critics", who are a bunch of joyless idiots, unable to comprehend this film for what it is. A summer blockbuster.

I really hope they follow it up with another, it absolutely deserves it.

I am really not sure what movie the "professional" critics saw on this one. Most movies I am normally right with them, but I found T5 pleasantly very watchable.

Even though it was just a graze, James Cameron had his fingers in Genisys and you can tell. He even stated this should have been the sequel to T2.

Genisys was far better than the last two. And for the ones complaining about the timeline, T1 with the son sending his" younger than himself" father back made absolutely no sense to start with, so let that go and enjoy a great summer movie.

Bah I didn't review the twilight series at all let alone give it a one or a zero forb it being too stupid. Let's not down vote a movie because the story is complicated. It's not perfect and has it's share of problems of course, the script is a little weak in places, not all the one liners hit home and the cast can't compare to the original cast. Emilia Clarke and Jai Courtney's do an ok job in their roles, Emilia starts a little weak but seems to get a better grasp of Sarah as the movie goes on but they are no Michael Biehn and Linda Hamilton.

There is a lot to like though. Solid action sequences, some funny one liners, brilliant recreation of the opening of the original movie, with CGI Arnold really well done, a new T-1000 which is still badass and of course real (old) Arnold playing his iconic role like he never left.

Overall it is a fun, entertaining action movie, nothing more, nothing less, so don't expect T1 / T2 greatness but it's still a pretty decent start of what should be a new trilogy, even though it does feel like a complete movie in itself, it certainly leaves a lot of questions unanswered for the future movies.

The problem is that when it comes to these summer tent pole movies, they always want to see something totally new and groundbreaking in terms of effects, which - to be fair- this movie really does not do. OK- so the shape - changing Liquidmetal T-1000 Terminator in the film can't re-capture the magic of seeing it for the 1st -time 25 years ago in T2 ( it's like seeing Lightsaber's again in the Star Wars Prequels, no big deal, right? ) - nor does the new actor ( w/ is never explained ) upstage Robert Patrick's T-1000 - which would have been a real nice touch if they used his likeness in this movie ( they scanned him into the computer in 91 - so I don't know why they didn't? - ) but this film thankfully doesn't hang on that. This new film was Way better than T3:, which was nothing more than a boring retread of T2- and didn't advance the story at all. You could skip it ( this new film does) and you wouldn't have missed a thing. Compared w/ this new take/ twist/ re-write of the timeline, T3 is lame. The original film now also seems just outright dull compared to this flick. Do I believe the original actor's from the original were better? Yes, maybe they were? But having said that - I didn't dislike the new cast at all. It's a different take, as this Sarah has lead a different life. This was easily the 2nd best Terminator film to date. It was far better than JJ's 2009 Re-boot of our beloved Classic Trek. Genisys is only one of three movies I've watched in the theatre over the course of the last year -and I will be going to see it again. Expand

This film is the worst I've seen all Summer. I didn't shell out the bucks for 3D or IMAX, and was so pleased I went that route. It fails in large part due to the writing. The script muddies the waters so badly that nothing, not even Arnold's performance, can survive the maddening confusion that continues to build to the very end of the film. Yes, the CGI is good, but it too is weakened by the frustrating story line. The support characters are played by good actors, but like Arnold, they are washed out by the terrible script. If you must see it, wait for the cable release. Expand

Pay no attention to the lame critics. They probably are still whining over the fact that the trailer spoiled the main plot-twist in the film. Which by the way I had spoiled as well and still loved every second of this film.

On my first viewing, I loved it enough to want to give it a 9/10. Then I thought well it has some drawbacks and some plot-holes, and thus should objectively belong at 8/10.

However, as far as subjective taste goes, I still think it is a 9/10 and would so watch this film again and again!!!

On second viewing, I realised that what I implied as a convenient plot-hole, is perhaps a plot-point on its own that they are building up to for the next films. A mystery to solve. And that thought makes this film even more fun to watch! I simply love it.

I wanted the ending to be a little darker, however with light of the chance of 2 more films coming out to complete the trilogy, I am happy with this ending as well.

It was a little PG heavy, and it could have been a little longer to add in there some lore elements and some slow-paced horror like the originals. However, even without those the pace is great. So great in fact I found fixed to the film all the way through on both viewings. Which is awesome! No bore, and no characters that I didn't want to see. It feels as though it really just kept the important things.

Fan service is also there. Recreated scenes from the original Terminator. The war in the future. All perfect. Then it follows a classic time-twisting element of the Terminator saga to become also releveant to our own time, leaving (spoiler) Sarah Connor in a future with Kyle Reese the year of 2017. Also the year the sequel should come out, right? (End of spoiler)

Hence it is all lined up perfectly.

I can't wait to see the next ones and I am so watching this again and again and again. I simply loved it

The naysayers are either to ignorant to understand half the plot or are wering nostalgia goggles at which point only a screening of the original Terminator would please them. Their views on all things Terminator are completely unfair, proving also that they are NOT fans of the franchise, but fans of the old film because hey, childhood.

Anyway, check it out.

I would even go as far as saying that it is almost as good as T2. I liked it more than T1, for sure, and that in itself is a HUGE surprise. But to also like it also as much as T2? Well that was completely out of the question and yet it happened.

Definately more fun to watch than T2 though, even with some drawbacks it is a film that second and third viewings keep adding to it. For me, this is a new timeless classic and a perfect addition to the Terminator franchise. It doesn't undo the old films either. Since this timeline exists because of the previous ones.

For some this is the true T3. For me it is not. T3 was T3. This here was an awesome reboot that I simply loved which "resets the future"! For me, this will be a new classic.

Bring the rest on. The Terminator is BACK in a bang!

Unnecessary forced sentimental moments that were jarringly out of place. If they would have kept the story more simple, then the special effects would have been more appreciated, but the convoluted story about alternate timelines and indecipherable time travel laws made the movie annoying.

It had its moments tho, with R-nold camping it up with his trollish face and exagerrated mugging, as if he's now some kind of freak show attraction, which I guess he's always been. He's so old and wrinkled now that it almost makes your eyes hurt and bleed just looking at his craggy old German face.

Makes you wonder about how clueless the people are who would approve of this completely asinine script. Who to blame? The producers, the director? Someone definitely is out of touch with what makes a satisfying and entertaining story.

What I saw was a fun bombastic summer blockbuster that was a love letter to its origins, and a mostly refreshing take on an old series. After watching the first two Terminators (3 and Salvation were decent to mediocre at best) a plethora of times, I was somewhat worried what the outcome of a third attempt at a sequel would bring. The threat of an omnipotent Skynet in the form of Genisys was a great idea to push this battered series back into relevance. Plus the action was top notch, and Emilia Clarke was looking as gorgeous as always. Arnold did a stellar job as well, putting as much humanity one can in the boots of a soulless killing machine. Jai Courtney's performance completely surpassed my expectations as well and had great on screen chemistry with both Jason Clarke and Emilia Clarke. The time travel aspects weren't overly complex and were perfectly reasonable considering the massive amount of dissonance in time already caused by the first two movies. The movie is without a doubt worthy of a solid 8.5 for just the astounding set pieces and Arnold Schwarzenegger alone. Jame Cameron was 100% on point when he stated that this movie is the true sequel to Judgement Day. So my recommendation is to ignore the critics and watch this movie with an unbiased view point and you'll have an absolute blast. Expand

It's even worse than you might fear. A lazy, repetitious, one-trick gimmick masquerading as a film, with lame jokes, no character to speak of, terrible dialogue, and some truly horrendous casting. And that's just for starters.

Believe it or not I actually went in hoping for the best, but this is, without a doubt, the absolute nadir of the Terminator franchise. And a few call backs to the first two films, and some big budget explosions, don't mask the fact that this is a Terminator film with no direction, no future, and no clear ideas. Arnold tries hard, but even he doesn't seem like he has his heart fully in this one, and the rest of the main cast are just trainwreck awful.

It's like someone saw the Sarah Connor Chronicles and thought they'd do the same thing, only on a much bigger budget, and without an ounce of the creativity or intelligence (and that show was hardly perfect to begin with). And still managed to somehow screw it up.

Honestly, it's not even that its out and out 'worst film ever' levels of awful, as much as it is so manufactured and mediocre and soulless that it somehow manages to be twice as disappointing as it would have been if it had just plain sucked. After all, one can ignore a truly bad film, but a mediocre film that shows the odd spark of what might have been, but never does anything with it, that's just depressing. And for this Terminator fan, depressed is exactly how I left the cinema.

After Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation, I really thought we had hit bottom already, but apparently not.

It was a fun movie with all the stuff you like about T1 and T2 with the plot flaws of the previous two sequels. Arnold plays the terminator really well, which may say something about his acting. Jai Courtney was a very questionable Kyle Reese in the acting, but I really think a guy like him is casted as a piece of man-meat for the ladies. Sarah Connor being played by Emilia Clarke was a character you really wanted to see fall in love, as the previous actress, Linda Hamilton, I would not have thought that about. John Connor in this movie actually made for a believable character, and played a great role as a bad guy.

The story in these Terminator movies always feel like they're sort of making it up as they go, so if you're real finicky on believable story and action then you may want to look somewhere else. Fan boys of the series also don't seem to like it because it's still centered around stopping Skynet.

They were plentiful, and many were subtle. Some major events, such as the scene in the trailer where Sarah rescues Kyle Reese and the old T-800 versus the new T-800 were obviously not subtle. But they were awesome to watch, to remember those moments from T1 and see how they've changed their path due to more time traveling events since T2. The less subtle ones were enjoyable as well, however. And I don't think the average watcher of Genisys will catch even half of the subtler ones (such as a thumbs up from the old T-800 to Sarah Connor-- this is the last thing she saw of the Arnold's T2 character, as he was lowered into the steal; as well as throwbacks to T2's Terminator arm.

The story: This is easily the best plot from a Terminator movie since T2. It twists and turns but never leaves you confused. It's extremely creative, extremely engaging, and just good writing. I never felt like it was juggling too many things at once. The pacing was not only perfect, but the sequences played out very much like the Terminator movie it is. You can easily compare T1 and T2 (even T3's) structure to T5’s structure, which helps with that nostalgia and with giving you the same feelings of tenseness, curiosity, awe, and appreciation for the cleverness as when you watched the first two. Though, of course, T1 and T2 are superior films, no matter how engaging Genisys is. But I expected that. The time travel twist when Kyle goes back, what he sees, how that affects the path of this movie, was done very well, leading to unexpected turns in the plot. The actors' chemistry with each other all worked out very well, though Arnold is the obvious standout and draw.
Action and FX: Top notch for the most part. There was one scene with a Hunter-Killer (future helicopter things you see in all Terminator films) that was very obviously CGI. The Young Terminator CGI was seamless. The entire Terminator series is well-known for its practical (real-world, non-CGI) effects, and T5 delivers on that as well as any of the movies in the franchise. Some of the critics mentioned there were no memorable set pieces in the film. After watching T5, I have to wonder whether those critics watched the same movie I did. There were several memorable set pieces, environments that were essentially a 'character' within the film. This was true of T1 and T2, obviously: the Tech Noir night club (Sarah's first encounter with the two time travelers), the CyberDyne building and the steel mill in T2, and many I won't list here. But T5 had set pieces that were just as memorable. People gasped several times at how the action played out in these environments.
Humor: I think this movie had a little less humor than T2, though more than T1. There weren't really any hugely stand-out lines (besides the ones we've all come to expect), though "I've been waiting for you" is very satisfying to hear, and "Old, not obsolete" line was implemented well. Much of the comedy comes from Arnold's T-800 portrayal as he struggles to seem more human, which was, of course, the well the humor in T2 pulled on so successfully.
3D: I watched it in 3D, and I and those that went with me enjoyed it as well. I was glad to have experienced my first 3D Terminator film, that it was done well.
Dialogue/script: Not perfect, but nowhere near as campy as T3. T5 takes itself seriously, unlike T3. T1 and T2 are better than T5, and I think that's largely because they were exactly what Cameron intended them to. The twists were great, the storyline was great. They leave a couple things hanging, hoping this movie is a success and there will be two more. I'd honestly be happy with it ending here. Things were wrapped up very nicely besides some minor cliffhangers, sort of the way T2 ends on a dark road and an unknown future.
Verdict: I need to rewatch this film to decide exactly how it stacks up to T1 and T2. It was a fun thrill ride with some really interesting plot points that really furthered the Terminator narrative in a way that T3 and T4 never came close to achieving. For reference, I would give T1 a 9.5 (mostly due to limitations in technology in 1984), T2 a 10, T3 a 6, and Salvation a 5. If I had to take a guess on this one without a repeat viewing, I'd give it between an 8.5 and a 9 (I shamelessly gave it a 10 here after seeing 6.2 average). It was better than I expected after the weak critical reviews. It surprised me, it made me smile, laugh, sit on the edge of my seat, root for the heroes while trying to understand the opposition. The film paid great homage to the first two without leaving the audience feeling like T1 and T2 weren't important due to the changes made in the timelines of T5.
If there's a sequel... well, I'll be back. Though, the future is not set.
No fate but what we make.

Great music and sound design too, which seems to nod at the T1 and T2 soundtracks in several places... I thought that was pretty sweet (unlike what we got in T3 and Salvation).

Without spoiling specific details... *something* happens in the original timeline (What that *something* is, is a question acknowledged by the film and to be explored in the future), that allows a deviation from the outcome of the future war that we're all familiar with from T1 and T2, which causes a new timeline/reality to branch off, and cause the events in this Genisys film. This new timeline seems like it's supposed to be continuous with our own reality, with regards to it now being 2015 and still no Judgement Day, and also in regards to our current state of technology and where it's headed...

Please don't let the 'professional' critic reviews steer you away from this film (or any for that matter). Make up your own mind -- you've seen the trailers and advertisements... if it made you curious, then just go! It's good. "Trust me".

Honestly, I think that this one's getting a little too much of a bad rap from the critics. The only reason I can think of that they're bashing this movie so hard is because they're probably setting their expectations for it waaaaay too high and possibly even expecting it to be as good as the first two films. If that's the case, then they have no one to blame but themselves for not liking this film, because it was never meant to be as good as the first two films. Those films are are masterpieces and this one was just meant to be a fun and entertaining action flick, which it was. And of course, it wouldn't be a Terminator film without Schwarzenegger himself in it (unlike the previous film, which threw in a cheap stunt double version of him), so it's good to see him in this. Overall, yes it has its cheesy and ridiculous moments (but what action flick doesn't nowadays?), and yes the writing and dialogue aren't up to par with some of the previous films, but at the end of the day, this was just a fun film and that's all I wanted out of this film. If you go in with that same mindset, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Expand

This movie doesn't tread along the lines of mediocre, yet it lacks what made Terminator so good. It feels as though it was made by Michael Bay. Too much explosions and action to make it what made Judgment Day the best. The CGI was definitely worthy and good. Bad at some moments during action sequences, but overall it was brilliant. Yet it ruined the movie a slight, because it gave the movie less of a real feeling. The helicopter flying was obviously CGI and in Judgment Day, the helicopter flying was REAL. That's what made those scenes so good, was the fact it was REAL.
The story just screwed everything up, adding an alternate timeline. It messed up the ages, dates, and events. It pretend as though Rise of the Machines and Salvation never happened. There was plot holes here and there, many things weren't fully explained. The whole alternate future part of the movie overstayed its welcome. The movie dragged out too long. It would've been better to enhance the story and make it longer, then split it into a part 1 and a part 2. It felt rushed along to fit everything in.
The casting I felt was average. They did good for Sarah Connor and of course having Arnie return. Kyle Reese and the T-1000 weren't the best of choices. John Connor was good the 2nd half of the movie and gave off a lame vibe the 1st half. None were bad actors to say, but they didn't fit the roll that well. Kyle Reese looked nothing like Michael Bien. And well John Connor looks different all the time, but the actor didn't fit the roll.
I found myself shaking my head at some decisions they made during the film. Such as the ending and some parts near the ending. It got excessive with the choices they made, like "Did they seriously do that?" The comedic elements was actually surprisingly good. No one liners to make history, but the jokes were easy to find and laughable.
I went into this movie with low expectations. I came out satisfied, and I find it a worthy entry into the Terminator franchise. It sets up a sequel following this movie, and that's something I don't like. Maybe they will clear up some plot holes, I don't know. But overall I would recommend this movie and I will go and watch it again. It is average, but honestly it really isn't a waste of time. This movie deserves more than the critics are giving it. Don't believe those that rate it horribly and say it isn't a good movie. Cause it really is good, I will defend it till the end.

I would say #1 is T2 and #2 is the original and the last 2 are up for debate. I will start with the story which is the hardest part to grasp as it combines all of the movies and mixes them up. I mean they go through 3 different time periods so I will say it was an alright story plot for the fact that they did mix it up from the original formula. I will move onto the acting. I mean Arnold is a Beast like always and as for Sarah Connor who is played by Emilia Clarke from GOT I thought she felt out of place compared to Linda Hamilton. We also have Jason Clarke as John who I personally loved. I will finish in the acting department with Jai Courtney as Reese who I thought did a decent job considering he had to fill Michael Biehn's shoes which is almost Impossible lolz but he did a good job. I will finish with the action department and say that it was Fantastic and the CGI was used to perfection I thought. I also loved how they incorporated the T-1000 for a little while. I mean it had that Nostalgia that brought me back and I loved that for sure. I would also say that the movie had a decent amount of humor. I will now close out with saying that if you're a Terminator fan that you should definitely go and watch this movie. I would also recommend watching it in IMAX 3D because that is what I saw it in and it made it all the more EPIC.I can only hope and pray that they come out with an Unrated version of the film when it comes out officially on Blu-ray and DVD. He's back...almost.

Terminator: Genisys takes place in the year 2029, John Connor leads the resistance of man against Skynet and an army of machines, but as he readies a plan to save the past from this devastating future - Skynet rewrites history with their own plan - one that targets Connor in the past and present - and he may not be able to survive an assault on both fronts.

I had my doubts with Genisys ever since the title of the movie "Genisys" wasn't such a great title and the fact that the teaser trailer for the movie gave away the biggest plot twist in the movie, I mean the trailer showed way too much and spoiled the film for me. The other thing that made me less exciting for the movie is the fact that movie is saying that the first and second movie never happened and this is the true Terminator movie, f**k this I thought. My hope for this movie for being decent slowly went down as every time I hear some news from the movie is it's something to do with the cast or the little plot rumors.

But after seeing the movie it isn't all that terrible as I thought it was going to be, but it's not great.

Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as are favorite robot bad-ass and he brought he's one liners. Arnold is the most likable bad actor of all time and his slowly turning into an action hero icon. In this movie he once again nails it as the fearless but likable Terminator. I can't imagine anyone else playing the Terminator but only Arnold because it's the right role for him because well Arnold can play a robot really well and he's not even acting. Awesome work Arnold.

T-1000 is back in this movie but not for very long and it did feel out of place for T-1000 to be there, it like the film makers just threw him in there to remind you of T2, but I got to say that the run time of his screen time is the most enjoyable part of this movie. What the movie did well is making the T-1000 scary and dangerous again just like in T2, I mean T-1000 is the best villain in movie history and I'm happy they didn't screw the character up. Now after thinking about it and I did enjoy the T-1000 in the movie, but I have to admit the T-1000 didn't really need to be in this movie, I mean he's screen is very short and he wasn't very useful to the story; he was just throw there just to start the next action screen. If they just cut him out of the movie it wouldn't have made no difference at all and it wouldn't really effect the story. Now to those who haven't seen the movie and wondering why the T-1000 is in the movie well it's because I guesting he's been hunting down Sarah Conner maybe? but in the movie you first see the T-1000 designed up as a police officer driving around the dark streets like most officers do when it's night time to protect the streets at night, but anywhere he came across Kyle Reese as he steals a homeless mans cloths. Anyone remember in the original when Kyle was chase by that police officer in the opening well here it's changed because Kyle knocks him over and ask what year is is and T-1000 attacks him just like that. Okay here's the thing how did it know it's him? I mean you could think they sent another one back in time to hunt both of them down, but Skynet doesn't know that Kyle Reese is the father of John Conner or even know what he looks. I mean if it's been waiting how did it know that's the spot he's going to jumped off at, what if Kyle landed somewhere else? I know I went there and it may seem pointless to some but I seriously needed to get that out there somehow. Some people tell me to just enjoy the movie and don't think about stuff like that, well that's want some lazy moviegoers say just because they can't think themselves.

The one last thing that I can say positive about this movie is the fact that it's much better then Terminator 3. Now I don't hate this movie, I actually think it's a okay movie now keep that in mind, but now I'm getting into the problems and it's going to sound like I'm hating on this movie but keep in mind this is the stuff that bugged and why it bugged me.

Now I got nothing against Jai Courtney, I bet he's a nice guy in real life, but he is seriously not a good actor at all and him playing Kyle Reese was a huge miscast. At times I kept thinking he was a robot because of how robotic and wooden he was as a actor. I really don't get why he's getting such big roles in big movies, I mean the guy is not good at all.

Now another miscast was Emilia Clarke as Sarah Conner. She didn't do a terrible performance such as Jai Courtney, but all of her senses were quite cringe worthy and really awkward. There were scenes in this movie were Emilia almost did a good Sarah Conner but those scenes don't really last long. She's good in Game of Thrones but here she didn't really wow me in her performance.

The story and the writing were pretty messy. I mean this movie tries to improve things with the Terminator timeline by filling in the plot holes and the gaps, but it made things a lot worse and more confusing as this movie as more plot holes then the other Terminator movies. The movie is trying to redone the first and second movie by saying it never happened as the timeline as changed, but the real question is why change the first movie and the squeal? Leave those two movies alone. Why can't they do a Day of Future Past on Terminator 3, I would have been fine with that and it would have been a sorry letter to the fans of last two movies, but changing 1&2...no.

The actions scenes in the movie were fine and entertaining enough, but it didn't really wow me that much. It's mostly quick cuts and some of the action has been shown too much in the trailer so I wasn't all that trilled to see them as every clip and trailer showed most of the action scenes. The action isn't terrible but it was decent.

They where scenes in the movie were the re-create some scenes from the 1984 Terminator movie and it didn't really feel right. It felt weird and not the good weird.

Oh and Matt smith is in the movie...for six minutes and that's it.

Overall Terminator: Genisys has it's pros and it's cons. I say it's better than Terminator 3 but Terminator 2 still knocks this movie out of the park and still will be the classic 90's action film.

this movie is **** awesome... the opening of the war is bad ass with Kyle Reese its so **** awesome seeing Arnold back as the terminator... he is born for it..
Emilia clark is a good Sarah connor in the movie i thought she did a nice job filling linda Hamilton shoes and really it almost me forget it wasn't Linda Hamilton at times.. jai Courtney plays kyle reese in this terminator film and i think he was pretty damn great..
i know people dont like him as an actor and thats cool. but i never really saw much of his work so maybe that has a factor with my opinion on him as an actor...
i really loved how it changed the timeline and the story kicked ass and felt like terminator really brought me back watching terminator again as soon as i see arnold show up i get **** goosebumps...
john connor in this was so awesome and i think hes my favorite actor to play him yet...
the action in this movie was so **** awesome and bad ass and kept me at the edge of my seat the entire movie. that bus scene on the bridge was so **** epic and cool.
i didn't like how they called arnold pops but i eventually got used to it and didn't care... i personally really loved the relationship between kyle and Sarah in this movie how they didn't just fall in love for no reason and cant wait to see them move forward with that in the sequels...
arnold was so **** funny but bad ass at the same time in this movie... he had me cracking up every time he was on screen ARNOLD IS **** BACK!!!!!!! lots of awesome twists and turns and just all in all a really fun as **** movie that will make a terminator fan happy...
i can understand even if a terminator fan didnt enjoy it but i think if you are a fan you will at least have fun with the action scenes and arnold in it himself was **** so cool... the story and the acting was great and the movie was just entertaining and fun as ****...
cant wait to see what they do with a sequel and the future of the franchise in the coming years to come...

I usually cringe at the sloppy way sequels call back to previous films, but this one did so very well. Instead of using awkward call-backs as a crutch, they were smoothly integrated in the film and not only had a natural feel, but they also helped to launch the plot forward. The writers went in interesting directions with the story, and the dialogue and action were both solid.
The films biggest weakness was the climax, as it wasn't very clear, at that point, what was going on. Still, I'm finally satisfied to have a solid, re-watchable sequel to T1 and T2.
I'm really wondering if the majority of reviewers saw a different movie than I did, or if they're just predisposed to hate it. Let them remember what the original films were, for their time, and come down off their high-horses to give this one a chance.

Less darker than the other four installments, several twists are easily predicted and there is obviously a number of flaws and time paradox when the story progresses but the film is still an entertaining generic sci-fi. The scores of the film composed by Lorne Balfe are rather weak even though co-produced by Hans Zimmer, the performance of Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese is just alright, Arnold as T-800 is still the most entertaining element of the franchise with his fights and adorable robotic expressions but the pacing of the script has caused the lack of emotional engagement with Sarah Conner (Emilia Clarke). James Cameron says that this film is respectful to his first two installments back in 1984 and 1991 but action sequences are nothing new, CGIs do not improve much from previous installments and the visual effects seems a bit video game setting have overall disgraced his compliment. “I’ll be back!!” and Arnold is in a big way.

Terminator has been getting harsh critic reviews which are not warranted and are way off. It is clear that these critics are not aware of the Terminator franchise as a whole. You would have to be a fan of the TV series to understand the direction of the new film.

Terminator Genisys borrows from The Sarah Conner Chronicles TV series, creating skewed timeline possibilities with Kyle Reese still being alive, fighting along with Sarah Conner and a guardian Terminator (Summer Glau).

The action in Terminator Genisys is riveting and induces old excitement that I experienced with Terminator 1, 2 and The Sarah Conner Chronicles. I found the story fascinating and appreciated the retro humor.
It would awesome to see Summer Glau come back, as she was the best out of the TV series and is superb at action sequences.

I highly recommend seeing this film and look forward to the next films!!

I want to say straight off this movie is leagues better than 3, and in terms of plot it flows much better than 4. Genisys goes a much campier and friendlier route than any previous entry, but unlike 3, it never shies way from this idea. Rise of the Machines suffered from incessantly back peddling away from its cornball moments to try and pull off a grim story, which at the end of the day could have been really good.

Genisys is the Terminator movie you can take your kid or your younger brother to and have a great time, heck, take you daughter or kid sister! Sarah Connor is a fantastic action chick as ever, still not totally sure how I feel about Amelia playing a role that was previously filled by Linda Hammilton, but she did a fantastic job. The real star though is Arnold as quite literally Terminator Dad. He's melancholy and old and emotionless and yet... in weird ways when he does emote, it hits with a pretty good amount of weight. He's not going to get a moment that rivals, "I know now why you cry," but he gets some great goofy lines and does pull a heart string or two.

Is T5 perfect? Nope. I would call it fun though, a whole bucket of big dumb fun that is tonally consistent all the way through.

The plot of Genisys is total mess fixed together with duct tape.. even for a story involving time travel, and expected paradoxes and retcons (within a margin of acceptable tolerance) Genisys is just way too absurd.
It feels like the studios are really starting to tarnish the franchise now for the sake of trying to jump-start a haphazard trilogy of PG-13 blockbuster holiday movies (this is the 3rd false-start in a row now).
Terminator Salvation was a better Terminator movie than Genisys and after my initial dissatisfaction with Genisys I resent it even further for retconning the first 2 movies out of existence to pave the way for it's own existence, and I'm disappointed for Emilia Clarke's sake because I like her and I want to see her do well (and it wasn't her fault that this movie sucked).

If you haven't watched Terminator 1 and 2 watch them before this because some parts especially the first 30 mins tie-in with them. There were some really confusing things in the movie (don't worry not a spoiler) During the beginning of the movie Kyle Resse is saved by John Connor (this may tie into Salvation timeline I don't know I haven't seen it yet) and Resse is a kid and Connor is grown its just odd. The best thing in this movie is Arnold Schwaranagger, he plays the T800 really well. Few of characters could of been used better, JK Simions (Whiplash, Spider Man) wasn't wasted but he could of played into the story more. When James Cameron gets the rights back in 3 years I hope it turns out better. I'm not going to this movie had some solid action scenes like the highway section and the Arnold vs T3000 (not going to tell you who that is if you didn't watch the 2nd trailer.) Jason Clarke (Child 44, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) did a good as John Connor and Jai Courtney (Jack Reacher) was functional as Kyle Reese. One thing I liked and had a problem with is that they brought back the T1000 (I think it's the same one) from T2 I liked that but they kinda wasted him they show most of his scenes in the 1st trailer. If you live and die by the first 2 movies, you might not like this. If you like all the terminator movies you will definitely love this movie, I personally really liked this movie. Expand

After reading the reviews, I was surprised by how much I actually enjoyed this film. The story has some plot holes (and at least one major unanswered question), but even if its script can't hold a candle to the second movie, it's certainly not the least-well-written Terminator film (that would be T3: Rise of the Machines). The effects are suitably cool and the actors are suitably cast. If there's one thing that Arnold S. actually can act like, it's a robot. Perhaps that's the picture's biggest crime - it's just suitable rather than phenomenal. It could be said that the Terminator franchise is like a rock band that peaked with their second album and has never recaptured that perfect sound. But that doesn't mean they don't put out decent records every now and then. Expand

Arnold Schwarzenegger did a fantastic job as the Terminator once again even bringing back the one liners. To me this movie felt like a sequel to reboot the franchise once again if they decide, something similar on what X-Men of Future Past did. A must see if your a Terminator / Arnold fan, however if you do watch it, sometimes the story can get complicated with time travel, but just enjoy the movie for what it is and a open mind. Expand

Arnold didnt say much, but the few funny lines and gestures he provides are classic Schwarzenegger. Great action scenes, although i wouldnt recommend paying extra for 3D- it looked great, but the movie did fine without it. Expand

Don't get all the hate and low ratings.
I really enjoyed the movie, it paid homage to first and second. Had a self humor and brought back epic action of T2. Over all it is solid action and I rate it 8/10

The premise was intriguing, but the trailers revealed too much, and watching the film had few surprises. The script was a major weakness of Terminator, because it left things unexplained, revisited way too much old material from previous films, and was way too overly complex. Along with the story, the dialogue was at times forced, and tried to remind us of older, better days, for the franchise. While the script wasn't very good, the action sequences were very good, and the actors were serviceable. Unfortunately the very confusing, sometimes unexplained story weighs the entire film down, and the end result is a mediocre film. Expand

I mean i would recommend seeing Jurassic World opposed to terminator genisys, both are stupid Blockbuster action films, but Jurassic Park has better acting and is just generally obscured, in a good way. My main, and biggest flaw with the movie is the films story, it's a mess, the amount of inconsistencies and the fact that it just doesn't make sense after awhile is truly awful. Also the characters are all horribly implemented. Yet other-all i cant say i wasn't entertained, because it was a fun film, also the return of Arnold Swarenager really is the films Charm, it is the greatest part of the film besides the action. I think its safe to say that the film is a good time killer if yur board and just wanna watch **** blow up. Otherwise it is a disappointing squeal to an already damaged property, i think its time for Terminator to die, nobody seems to know what they are doing with the franchise. Expand

Very glad I did NOT watch any trailers beforehand. In fact I barely remembered this movie's existence until right before driving to the theater. So because of this I very much enjoyed the twists(though they were obvious).

There were some pretty awesome set pieces and emotional scenes that brought me back to when I was 7 years old again, watching Judgement Day for the first time.

I think the ending is what really made me love it. I mean we all remember the epic ending to Judgement Day. You can tell the writers really tried to pay homage to it here.

But hey I'm the guy who HATED Jurassic World so make of this what you will.

Terminator 5 was a childhood dream come true Very satisfying it stayed true to the originals. including recreated scenes from T1 & T2. And it stood it's ground on its own. This is a must see Blockbuster film this summer. A lot of emotions as I was watching Genisys mostly Positive. ACTION packed. This Film brought back the 8yr old out of me, when I first fell in love with the Terminator franchise. Go watch it and review it for u r self. I rated TERMINATOR GENISYS a 5/5. If you love Terminator movies, this will be worth seeing. If you love action movies, this is still worth seeing. If you want to see an amazing story with great lines and great acting across the board, skip this one.

You have to go in with the right mind set. It is a popcorn flick, not designed to be the greatest movie ever made.

The action scenes were mixed in terms of quality. I did not care for the cartoonish nature of the helicopter chase. I know action movies breaks the laws of physics all the time, but I think G.I. Joe the cartoon had better helicopter physics.

The acting was very mixed. I wanted to like the new Sarah Conner, but she just did not pull off that bad ass charisma like Linda Hamilton did. Arnold did a fine job being Arnold. The actor doing John Carter's roll was very good.

The trailers did giveaway a chunk of the story twists, but there still maybe one surprise remaining. Sadly, most of the movie was predictable.

"Terminator: Genisys" 10 Scale Rating: 5.0 (Mediocre) ...

The Good: The idea and initial concept is a great one. It really felt like an old school Terminator film (finally) for the first 45 minutes or so. Re-visiting 1984 and showing us more of what the future is like were definite highlights. I was dubious about Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising the role of the T-800, but he actually does an amazing job and was at the top of his game. I'm not usually a fan of Jai Courtney, but he was solid in his portrayal of Kyle Reese. The true standout though was Jason Clarke, who played John Connor. The previews and trailers give it away, but he is ultimately the main antagonist of the film and is among the better ones that the franchise has had. Byung-hun Lee's part was small and without many lines, but he was excellent as a re-imagined T-1000, the shape-shifting Terminator from the second film. For about 1/3 of the film, my reservations dissipated and I found it to be an enjoyable and wildly entertaining film.

The Bad: Sadly, they could not keep up that pace as the movie degenerated into "Rise of the Machines" territory. The story slips and never regains it's early glory, becoming somewhat nonsensical and bland. While the first third of the film entertained, the second act was average at best and the last third was awful. The ending was also unsatisfying and doesn't fill me with hope about the future sequels that are already in the works. Emilia Clarke is also definitely no Linda Hamilton and while she tries REALLY hard, she just doesn't pull off Sarah Connor at all. Lastly, some humorous elements were crammed into the film and they felt ill-timed and out of place. The first films have a bit of dry wit to them and it works. Here though Clarke, Courtney, and even Schwarzenegger are chock full of one liners and groan inducing jokes.

Emilia Clarke was perfectly cast as Sarah Connor. She brings a certain innocent vulnerability to the role that makes perfect sense in the context of the plot. Jai Courtney, while not ground breaking, delivers a solid performance as Kyle Reese. Jason Clarke was outstanding as John Connor and delivers a thoroughly enjoyable performance and often steals the scene. Arnold is Arnold, take that as you well. The references and jokes regarding the previous films were enjoyable and appropriately delivered without being done. The action was good, but more importantly the plot was better. I've seen people say the plot is convoluted, but I completely disagree. It's no more complicated than Inception and is a perfectly legitimate story given the context of time travel. J.K. Simmons' character Detective O'Brien wasn't really necessary and could have been removed, BUT his presence in the story makes total sense. Overall this was actually quite well written and thoroughly enjoyable. It is completely faithful to the original two Terminator films and SIGNIFICANTLY better than the crappy Terminator: Rise of the Machines and Terminator: Salvation. If you enjoy the Terminator franchise and wanted to see it done justice, this film should certainly please you. 8/10. Expand

From the mythology and characters of the original, to the scale and dynamics of “T2″ and the lighter nature of Terminator 3 plus the CGI that re-created young T-800 in ‘Terminator Salvation’ and memorable lines from all previous ‘Terminators’, this film feels like a movie made by committee with as many boxes ticked as possible and with little risk taken, particularly if you consider that a reboot has the same actor playing the same central character.

But the most offensive element of ‘Terminator Genisys’ is not its lack of creativity and reliance on nostalgia, it’s the ungainly storyline that features alternate and converging timelines and a narrative so convoluted it almost covers over the huge plot-holes and disparate elements that must be brought together, with the stakes set so high in the story, it’s remarkable how in the end the audience can care so little about the conclusion to all this mess.

This film is not completely without merit, there is an attempt at a cautionary tale about dependence on interconnected technology, but this gets lost in the quagmire of the story, the action set-pieces and CGI are impressive but not enough to sustain interest for 2 hours and nothing we haven’t seen before, but despite the scene in “T2″ never did we think that the T-800 Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 would actually become “uncle Bob”.

The Bottom Line…
Despite plenty of action sequences and the return of “Arnie”, ‘Terminator Genisys’ is an unnecessary and unmemorable addition to the franchise relying heavily on nostalgia without offering anything you haven’t seen from your typical modern Hollywood action-blockbuster.
