The good thing was that it was short and fast. It kept the action moving and never let up, so while there was plenty I didn't agree with or thought was just downright stupid, I didn't have time to stew over it.

Also, Megan Fox was much better than I would have thought. Also not great, but you could tell she actually tried to be more than just T&A. She took this role very seriously, even if the rest of the movie didn't, and I appreciate that.

Overall, it wasn't a Bayformers mega-mess like I had expected and so I was pleasantly surprised.

Despite the enjoyable visuals and effects, likability of the characters, and fun and touching moments the film is plagued by a scattered brained plot, plot holes, underdeveloped characters and lack of loyalty to the source material.

The movie also suffers from an excessive jokieness that makes the film evoke annoyance more than laughs and also very uneven screen writing and sloppy plot development that doesn't tie up the story nicely in the end. Overall the movie has plenty of redeeming qualities which save it from its script and poor plot and can simply be enjoyed as a stuffed action flick with enjoyable moments with a sub-par plot and screenwriting.

I didn't really look up anything about the movie in hopes that it wouldn't spoil the viewing. The acting was laughable from Megan Fox, but I kind of expected that. The action sequences were actually pretty satisfying, but I believe that the Ninja Turtles just don't work as a believable live action movie. It felt very campy and very unrealistic. I am not a Michael Bay hater, as I thoroughly enjoyed the Transformers films as entertaining summer films. This is not an attack on my child hood per say, so I do not come in with that baggage. I gave it a chance, and it fell flat. Great for kids, not for adults. Expand

The visuals can be pretty cool at times (especially with the turtles themselves & that snow mountain scene) but other than that it's really not worth going out of your way to see.

1.) Casting Megan Fox as April O'Neil
2.) Being directed by Jonathan Liebesman

That's not to say I loved the film, but I didn't outright hate it either. I actually like the way the turtles acted and there were some good scenes. The thing that needs to be understood about this movie is that it is clearly written for a younger audience. This means the story is oversimplified at some points and that leads to some very obvious plot holes. In the end, I just felt that the movie was ok. It's not the worst TMNT project out there, but it's not really high on the list. If you have young kids, they will probably like this movie. If you're an adult, you may just want to rent this instead. Expand

Great family movie but flawed
TMNT 2014 captured the original underlining personalities of the turtles and Splinter was hardcore.
The film opens with a cool comic book fly through done in the style of the old TMNT when they was 1st released in 1984.

The turtles looked like a cross between Shrek, and Hulk, their strength is greatly increased by far the strongest TMNT ever seen cool but also a bit of a letdown.

Pace of them movie was rushed, leaves you feeling like something was missing. The story was very safe and average nothing pushing boundaries or taking risk.

Strong family value and a few heart strings will be tugged. The theater was packed the audience laugh through 30% of the film because of Mikey. Whoopi Goldberg stunk really bad not funny at all.

Over all I would go see the movie, Have a great time with your family and build some memories - I would also buy the DVD when its released. http://scannerdrome.com/sdpodcast/

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not a big ‪Liebesman‬ fan yet his movies have this weird habit of coming out to be okay - not awesome just mediocre good!

Flick starts with a very dodgy screenplay and a lot of ‪Megan Fox‬ not to mention that other guy! There were some casual remarks of Turtles and some word of mouth stories (seriously a micro-disappearing-action bit against the Foot clan doesn't cut it, you director!) Almost yawned so big that I nearly died till I saw the turtles pop up out of the blue and this time with a proper screen-time for a change. Michaelangelo‬ is the most adorable one, his wits make you crack. CGI is good but not Rise of the Planet of the apes good! ‎Sensei‬ is less gross for a change and boy he can fight! But one of the most badass elements in the flick is ‪The Shredder‬ whose face we don't see in the entire movie (whaaaaaaaat?) But he makes those teenage turtles his bi***.

What was disappointing to watch was ‪Fichtner's limited role, such a waste of his talent, also a clichéd tale, poor screenplay and too much of that other guy failing yet trying to tap that Megan ass, and a blunt and painful manifestation of the turtle's fiascoes. The humor becomes good right after the interval and keeps you rooted. Go ahead and watch the flick if you wanna have a good laugh, entertain yourself and wanna watch these immature Turtles get there asses kicked.

Watch out for the most rad scene in the flick - when these teenage ninjas ice skate in the avalanche with a swaying truck m/ pretty dope!

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" 10 Scale Rating: 4.5 (Mediocre) ...

The Good: While it wasn't a good film, it was much better than I expected it to be. The turtles themselves were actually very well done and captured the distinct personalities of the characters almost perfectly. The effects for the foursome were also top notch and they looked remarkably real. Fight scenes were mostly well choreographed and the film has it's fun moments.William Fichtner and Will Arnett were adequate in supporting roles. Tony Shaloub wasn't bad as the voice of Splinter. I'd give the first half of the film a 7.5 ...

The Bad: ... but, I'd only give the second half a 2.0. After keeping it reigned in for 45 minutes or so, Michael Bay just couldn't help himself. As with his Transformers franchise the humans involved survive impossible falls, crashes, attacks, and hails of shrapnel. The film also suddenly decides to ignore things like physics, gravity, and well ... science in general, to a comedic extent. I can suspend belief quite a bit, especially for a film involving mutated fighting turtles, but I can only ignore so much. The last 30 minutes of the movie is a few long bombastic action scenes that are a the hallmark of a Bay offering ... but not in a good way. The film's main villain was done up in that EXTREME!!! Micheal Bay style and was ultimately silly and difficult to take seriously. He had massive knives and blades all over him in ways that didn't seem useful at all. Megan Fox was also horrible as April O'Neil. She was decent during "damsel in distress" moments, but anything more than that was a disaster especially when asked to do something as difficult as, you know ... delivering lines. While the turtles themselves were amazing on screen, the same can't be said for their mentor, Splinter. He looked like a cartoon and was just bad CGI. The film's conclusion also left something to be desired as once the villainous plot is revealed, it is resolved in a straight-forward (and loud and explosive!) manner. Not as bad as I thought it would be, but I expected one of the worst films I've ever seen so that isn't saying much.

Let me start off by saying that i have seen the first teenage mutant ninja turtles movie ever made. The cartoon movies and some of the tv show. Now this movie is far from perfect. I'm not going to lie it really is not. I was fairly excited to hear they were doing a teenage mutant ninja turtles movie. This movie was not a complete bastardization of my childhood like many are pronouncing but The biggest problems I had with this movie was there was not enough splinter and turtles relashinship. Were supposed to feel bad for splinter when he dies but I don't because i barly get to see enough of him. The backstory of the turtles I was like what??????. I appreciate Hollywood trying to be original for once but this just didn't work. Also will arnett's portrayal of Vern was so annoying. I would have loved to see megan fox hurtle him into the ocean. I would have been so happy. Next the foot clan are supposed to be ninjas not mercenaries. I don't have a problem with them being mercenaries it's just that i would have like to see them fight with there fists instead of just shooting. Next The villain who I was not expected him to be and he was very bad. Probably one of the worst villain portrayals of the 21 first century. He was just so boring. Last but not least as many people have already stated this movie focused too much on April o neil and not enough on the turtles. When were supposed to feel scared for the turtles I just don't because not enough time was spent on them. however there are some bright sides. The action scenes were actually pretty awesome. Especially the snow action scene and the fight between splinter and shredder was done to perfection. next, even though the turtles didn't get enough screen time they each had there own personality and each felt different witch i liked. Many people complained about shredders look but i loved it. It was so Awesome I just can't even. And a certain pizza company makes a cameo which to be honest is just a consumerism technique I was very happy they included that in the movie. And last but not least this is Megan fox's best movie I have seen her act in even though as I stated before I would have liked to see less of her Unfortunately teenage mutant ninja turtles lacks any ice ice baby, heart, and turtle splinter connection that could give this movie an extra push. This movie could also be 20 minutes longer. I know it was a movie was made for kids but keep in mind there are probably kids in the audience who are probably familiar with the cartoon. knowing kids they probably couldn't really care This movie is also the perfect example of Hollywood trying to be original but fails pretty miserably. I appreciate this Hollywood but it's just not well executed. this movie it's self also suffers from the many flaws and missed opportunities script wise that would have made this movie great. Expand

Flat, generic, CGI-filled. 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' bored me, unfortunately.

I have a slight memory of seeing bits of TMNT when I was younger but never intentionally watched it, though have always been interested in viewing a film with them in. So in that sense, this disappointed. It just has nothing about it, no character or charm whatsoever. No reason to care for any of the onscreen bunch. Very plain.

None of the cast stick out, particularly the voices. Megan Fox is probably the best this has to offer, though I didn't mind William Fichtner either... Whoopi Goldberg shows up in an alright minor role too, I guess?

I found little to zero of the action scenes entertaining, not helped by some questionable editing and music. Another issue I did also notice is the humour, which falls flat at almost every opportunity - especially with the grating Michelangelo (Noel Fisher).

I'll check out the sequel, because I always going to, but I ain't expecting much! This 2014 film isn't worth seeing.

I was even dressed up as Casey Jones, and my beautiful girlfriend was my lovely April O'Neil, so it became a "thing" - something to expect. The first TMNT movie in a long time. In other words - we were excited, even knowing that it won't be good. We just wanted it to be OK.
Well, it wasn't.
I really don't want to say this, but this movie is terrible. If you have even a little bit of logical and critical thinking, you will see that.
Director Jonathan Liebesman, known for nothing even remotely good, did a semi-terrible job. A few scenes pop up and will be remembered for a while as exciting or cool, but nothing more. Josh Appelbaum did a particularly terrible job writing the script, it simply gave nothing for the actors to work with, it was very simple, and most jokes weren't worth more than a chuckle. A lot of people are saying the turtles ARE the turtles when they "get it on" - I strongly disagree, having read most of the original and IDW comics, and watched most of the TV series, I know how the turtles act, and this were not the turtles. The Turtles are a lot more charming than simply a nerd, a nobody, a loverboy and a grumpy guy with an attitude. Mr. Wolf said it best: the fact that you are a character does not mean you have character, and this is just the case with this rendition of our favorite heroes.
Further more, the story is very badly paced, it was one of those movies that feels very fast and very slow all at once - there were no moments of gradual suspense, nothing of value at all. You only need to see how weak the intro is to get what I mean, and the ending is even worse (it doesn't have a finale, it just ends in a typical Michael Bay fashion). And - spoilers - about the supposed climax, though cool at times, I agree with some critics that it was too similar to the one in Amazing Spider-Man 1. Other than that, the geek in me wants to say that this movie has the same problems as the original TMNT 2, though I will not point-out which, so not to spoil.
When it comes to acting, I can only say two things. First - William Fichtner was the only one of all the cast who was doing actual acting. Even though he was given 0 good text to work with, he had every scene he was in in complete control, as you'd expect. Everyone else was simply there, trying to do acting, rather than acting. The other thing I want to note, although it's not really acting related - the Shredder is much more cooler looking on screen. Sure, the Victorynox effects are obvious, but he is a lot less bulky and a bit more bad ass than he seems to be, so at least I'm glad about that. Oh, and Megan Fox did try though, for like 2 minutes.
The movie sounds ok, it's the typical Michael Bay style sound work - a lot of slow-mo dubstepish sounds and a lot of metal scraping noises, and a soundtrack worth 2 hours and a synth - nothing of value. The theme song by Wiz Khalifa and his entourage of various rappers is catchy, but notably weak and stupid. Even more so than Ninja Rap, and that's a whole new level of stupid only 2014's rappers can offer.
The post-production work was terrible - it was obvious how the movie went through a lot of stages, it was obvious how Sacks was going to be Shredder before the fan outrage, a lot of scenes have no sense what so ever, but nothing can be done about that.
The movie is pretty damn weak. And if you can't stand stand being not-critical or logical, you are not going to like it at all. (Yeah, it is scary how this movie surpassed Guardians of the Galaxy and Planet of the Apes.)
However, if you have kids - take 'em to see it. Kids love this movie. And ultimately... this movie, in particular, is obviously made for them. It wants to take you on a joy ride, and if you are a little kid, not knowing most of the history of TMNT (like, per say, me), you will have a blast and go want a toy afterwards. Hell, even I wanted a toy afterwards. But that's what comic book movies do to you I guess.
The movie is not as terrible as some people point it out to be, but it is pretty weak, Kids will love it, real fans will probably hate it, but be excited by it. Either way, a sequel is already due and with Bibop and Rocksteady confirmed for it, maybe we will see something a tad more faithful, and let's hope - better.

The bad, well Megan Fox is an awful actress and although enjoy Will Arnett, he can't save this movie. You still have at the end a movie that takes it's source material, tries to do something new with it (which I am not against it), but makes it so bad and painful to watch that I'm legitimately pissed off with this movie.

Also, I don't mind how the turtles look...but I don't remember them being eight feet tall. In fact, in the cartoon they used to be smaller than April O'Neil.

I was not planing on seeing this movie for good reasons. The turtles in this movie look like Shrek in real life but if you add so ugly CG in to it then you get the turtles in this movie. and Micheal Bay was behind this movie and I know his the of producer of this movie but the movie has that Micheal Bay look to it. After seeing the movie I got to say that this movie sucks ass. The writing in this movie is dreadful and Megan Fox didn't do a awful job playing April O'Neil but she didn't do a fantastic playing the character. The only good thing in this movie is the turtles themselves. there had funny jokes and so bad-ass fight scenes, but overall Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is another failed reboot that doesn't take any risks of being a good movie. Creepy ninja turtles.

He already ruined my childhood with the Transformers movies, so when I heard he was producing a Ninja Turtles reboot, I was ENRAGED!!! Then I went to see the film I knew was gonna be terrible and honestly, it was ok. I still hate the Turtles designs, but that's just a minor problem. What I disliked the most about the film was that it was basically the April O'Neil show!!! I really am getting tired of Megan Fox staring in Bays movies. Heck, we don't see the Turtles until like 10-20 minutes into the movie!!! Also, the Shredder is really underdeveloped. All we focus on is Erick Sacks. But from all my hate, I don't completely hate this movie. The voice acting is decent and the fight sequences are awesome. Although that doesn't mean the movie is great in any way. Not as terrible as I thought it would be, but not a masterpiece. 4/10. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This film is a brainless, somewhat entertaining, generously short jog through the new Ninja Turtles' universe. It is supposed to be realistic, but it seems to take itself way too seriously, and ends up being a very confused picture. I wouldn't say it's a horrible movie, because it's really not, but I'd say it's a mixed bag. The animation is mostly fantastic and the banter between the turtles is surprisingly in character with what little was developed about them in this film or what you may know from previous incarnations of the brothers. The plot is uninspired and clunky, but makes for an unintentionally hilarious line from the pseudo-villain. Megan Fox is still a bad actress, but people seem to be attacking her on a personal level, and that's a bit uncalled for. Needless to say, she was bad in the movie, Will Arnett looks incredibly restrained and disinterested in the picture where William Fichtner is having a blast playing the stereotypical business man, and the turtles bounce lines off each other like a well played game of wall-ball. This is a mixed bag because without the great banter between the turtles, and the clever new backstory, this would be just another bad movie. Expand

Their human allies are Megan Fox and Will Arnett. It goes without saying that the plotting is plodding. The story gets off to a slow start, but once it gets rolling, there's plenty of action…most of its jumbled and unimaginative. Arnett has a few funny moments, but the Turtles' wise cracks fall flat. Kids might enjoy it (although they'll be frustrated by the subtitles), but grownups looking to re-live their childhood fascination will find themselves yearning for their younger days (and their money back). There's a certain level of absurdity in movies that I'm willing to overlook. Some may have convenience timing or occurrence, but TMNT has gone beyond any hope of logical salvation, it discarded any plausibility or decent common sense in that matter, and opted for samurai robot and explosion. I knew it was going to do that, but apparently my expectation was still too high. One of the characters embodies Michael Bay's philosophy, saying that knowing what people like is good, like froth in coffee. Well, this movie doesn't even resemble that, it's that white stuff that accumulates at corners of your mouth when you're really thirsty.

Acting isn't much, there's Megan Fox who looks nice and everything, but she just looks completely in distress, it differs little whether the cause is ninja, samurai robot, or transforming robot. There may be a misconception that Fox’ up close agape look is a selling point, or may be not. Will Arnett tries to bring some comedy, his character often wanders how he caught up in this mess, same could probably be said about the actor. The main problem is how the turtles look exceptionally superficial. Using CG is expected, although the end result appears too mutated for viewing pleasure. At times, they resemble bulked up Jar-Jar Binks, definitely not pretty. While the movie tries to personify them differently, they are just too unconvincing to build any kind of emotional attachment and end up rather shallow.

Plot is a mess, it literally requires one to not question anything and merely marvel at the explosion. Even if the original story is a children cartoon, there has to be some coherency. TMNT doesn't want anything to do with any of that, with each passing minute the movie struts into the realm of impossibility even by dumb standard. Screenplay is poorly written, content is thin, near non-existent even. About half way most audience will stop their attempt to follow the plot, because it's exercise in futility and if one cares about story after about forty minutes, that's more work than the production put in the movie.

I suppose in term of effects it fares slightly better. These scenes are the highlights, and at this point, one won't be surprised if the turtles developed wings and fly. Fights and some action scenes are decent, but it may have borrowed too much from Transformers, just change the robot in flying debris with mutated turtles in flying debris. Cinematography is very Michael Bay, tilted scene, rotating close up, damsel in distress, empty dramatization all around. I guess it works for mindless fun, but it's now more mindless than fun.

The movie belongs in the sewer where it should just stay there, but considering turtle's life span, how it sells like hot pizza and Michael Bay's persistence, I fear for a sequel.

This wasn't as bad of a movie as I was expecting. The new look of the Turtles didn't bother me as much as it did for other people. The biggest problem I had was two-fold. With the inconsistency of the tone and with Megan Fox.
The tone of the movie stands out at first. It can't figure out if it wants to be a kids movie or something more adult-oriented. That's not to take away from the job that the guys who played the Turtles did. I think they did really well conveying each of their individual personalities and they each got around the same amount of screen time. The tone is so inconsistent though that one moment you're making a fart joke for the kids and the next you have someone get brutally killed. It happens so much throughout the entire movie you have to wonder why they thought this was a good idea.
The other problem, actually main problem, is Megan Fox. She is SO TERRIBLE in this movie it made me cringe to watch her in some scenes. She's just a horrible actress in general and she needs to stop ruining otherwise decent movies with her horrible acting skills she displays. What makes it even worse is the fact that she's pretty much the main character for 80% of the movie. It should have been called "Megan Fox! with 4 large turtle guys or something" because they focus WAY too much on her throughout the entire movie. If it had been someone playing April here, I think my score would be about 5 points higher. Instead you're forced to watch her stumble over lines all the time with a look between constipation and just general confusion on her face all the time.
This movie could have been so much more than it was but it just comes off as a cash grab in the end. It's clear they didn't respect the source material and the fact that they could never figure out what they quite wanted to do with the movie hampers the fact that the Turtles themselves were pretty neat and with a pretty good final boss fight at the end of the movie. But even Megan Fox has to ruin something cool like that too. Don't go see this movie in theaters. Wait a couple years till they bring it to Nick and watch it then cause even diehard turtles fans like myself will see this movie for what it really is: a terrible joke.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Most of the movie I was either chuckling at the few jewels that were the 'funny' scenes, laughing myself to tears because of how bad it is, or becoming infuriating by how much they butchered the entire plot that was every TV show made on the Turtles.

When they first mentioned the Foot as a crime organization, I was already saying "Damn, they are gonna butcher this plot", and sure enough it happens.

They replace Bradford, the kick-ass student of Shredder's, with Erik Sacks, owner and founder of 'Sacks Industries' which was in no turtles TV show, film or anything related to them. The Foot, an ancient Japanese Clan who rivaled Splinter's, has been completely butchered into a **** street gang. Where the **** are the Purple Dragons?

Splinter, a rat(at least they got that right), is now the result of lab experiment. No past Japanese history, no ancient revenge plot against Shredder, and certainly a lot less respect than in the TV shows.

What's worse, is when the company, Nickelodeon, has an ongoing TV show that is MUCH better than this rushed pile of **** can simply hire the producer of that TV show or BASE IT OFF THE SHOW'S PLOT, makes this...it makes the fans cringe and want to murder the director, in this case Michael Bay, who a lot of people already want to murder. Speaking of Michael Bay.......

Of course he had to bring in Megan Fox......and boy was she actually the worst part of the movie.

Megan fox played the April role, as Christian Bale would play The Joker. She basically played a clueless dumb blonde, who screams plot holes every other scene, confusing us every other time an important event occurs. There were PLENTY of plot holes with April by the way.

Some of the things in the movie just don't make plain sense.

Shredder's Armor for example, if anyone has watched ANY of the TV shows they would know that Shredder, much like Splinter prefers a fast-action fighting style, whilst in this, he basically has as much protection as 6 tanks combined and still moves around like a leaf in the wind(maybe it's the metal the **** Transformers' use?).

The Kraing are removed from the entire first plot, which is a problem on it's own considering that the Mutagen is a creation of the Kraing.

Now of course there were "a few" good points in the story.
Just a few though top 5, because they were the only 5.
1. Megan Fox's ass. We get a few good looks at it, which Michael Bay HAD to put in just to keep interest at a minimum.
2. Adrenaline scene. This was probably the funniest scene, seeing the turtles spiked up on adrenaline was quite entertaining.
3. Raph's wise cracks. These were quite funny.
4. Elevator DJ. This cracked me up. Seeing the entire group in a DJ-isk scene with Mikey leading them.
5. Megan fox's ass. Because why not?

Overall, it's a ****ty movie. If I was Michael Bay, take the money and run and save yourself the risk of LOSING money in the sequel which it will more than likely do, since they butchered the plot and murdered the sequels in a hour and a half movie.

So, they're heroes in a half shell?

With sloppy direction from Jonathan Liebesman (Battle Los Angeles) and writing my barely year old nephew could have written, the Michael Bay produced 'Ninja Turtles' is the cinematic equivalent of taking out the trash. It's hard to look at because they had the great idea of making the whole movie a super saturated mix of green and orange. In eighty percent of the movie you can barely tell what is happening on screen because Liebesman's ugly infatuation with shaky cam makes the action with the turtles actually doing ninja stuff so extremely hard to watch that if you were to have seen this in theaters you would probably puke in your seat. But the reason i hated this more than Transformers is because of the whore levels of product placement, there are multiple scenes set up just to sell a brand. For example, Pizza Hut has a whole 3 and a half minute commercial IN THE MOVIE dedicated to their "Novantanove Formaggio, The 99-cheese pizza!" and the whole scene is just Splinter praising Pizza Hut's mediocre Pizza. If you have not seen this hermit in a halfshell I envy you.

Unfortunately, if you've sat through all four "Transformers" movies, for example, then you'd know what to expect, here. If you actually loved all four of those movies, then you should be looking forward to this.

The film, like the previous ones, focuses on a news reporter named April O'Neil (Megan Fox, proving that looks are more important than acting) who discovers four vigilantes taking down the evil Foot Clan. When she manages to capture it on video via her phone, her boss Bernadette (Whoopi Goldberg) is not convinced and she ends up getting fired from her job and not being able to tell this story. She meets the vigilantes, who turn out to be giant, talking turtles; Leonardo (voiced by Johnny Knoxville), Raphael (Alan Ritchson), Michelangelo (Noel Fisher) and Donatello (Jeremy Howard).

These turtles apparently have a past that does involve April, she is told this when she meets their mentor and father, the giant rat named Splinter (Tony Shalhoub) as he explains all to her.

At just 1 hour and 41 minutes, this film felt twice as long as it should have. None of the scenes, whether it's exposition or even the giant action sequences, are entertaining to hold one's interest. The jokes are pretty much the same as you would expect in a "Transformers" movie... take anytime that Michelangelo tries hitting on April, it's creepy and not funny. The nature of it feels like it's as if Michael Bay actually had more control over this than the director, Jonathan Liebesman.

There is no reason whatsoever to see this film, I couldn't wait for it to end...

If you grew up with the TMNT series in the 1900s, this would be like watching someone funny you like getting stabbed in the Heart and have the murderer throw his blood and guts IN your face and go "HES NO MORE". If you grew up with the 2004 version of TMNT, it will be like having somebody you looked up to and wanted more future people to be like get cut up and get worn by the killer and try to make some Money out of the flesh suit by trying to act as if hes the "new and better" version of that person. The turtles i remember was allways fighting Ninjas with Ninja weapons against enemies that also used Ninja weapons and used masks like hired assassins. This movie takes those iconic footmen and turns them into TERRORISTS WITH GUNS, WHO TAKES HOSTAGES AND USES C4 IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY. All that about the turtles learning from their masters moves that he learned from hes master/had when he was human, has turned into a plot convinience with him finding a book about the samurais ways IN A SEWER!!. AND IT DOSEN'T END THERE! instead of the turtles fighting all kinds of random bandits, you know, the purple dragons who was kinda of a big deal in the 2004 version? NO WHERE TO BE FOUND. It suffers way too much from the typical Michael Bay formula and I really think another director and producer should have been put on this project. This is just... bad. If you like it, that's fine, but I didn't enjoy it. It had a lot of potential, but spent more time on "April O'Neil" (MEGAN FOX) than the Turtles. Try to avoid this if you can.

There’s a brief action scene that’s sort of like a key early sequence in Batman Begins, just… worse. The origin backstory for the Turtles and Splinter and the entire climax scene are photocopies of The Amazing Spider-Man, just… worse. They add nothing to what came before. None of it’s memorable. It’s just there.
If I can give some praise, I’ll give it to Noel Fisher. He’s a good Michelangelo. The few times I found myself smiling, it was because of his performance. Easily the high point.
The script is awful. Nothing makes a bit of sense. Eric Sacks’ evil master plan is to pump the city full of deadly gas and use the curative properties of the mutagen (a shoehorned-in aspect of the IDW comic series that’s just kinda… there, overcomplicating things for no specific reason) to play the “saviour” and cure everyone, and also receive a big government payday. He’s doing it to get rich, even though he’s clearly already crazy rich, with a palatial mountain estate and his own corporate tower in Manhattan. He has no additional motivation. And his actual plan is laughably stupid - he has the Shredder pump the bright red poison gas out from the top of his tower in the city… which would be immediately noticed by absolutely everyone and reveal that he was behind it all along. How does this plan end with anything but him in a prison cell?
The Shredder himself? He doesn’t need to be in this movie. He serves no purpose. He’s just there to fight Splinter and the Turtles, nothing more. He has no motivation and no character. And even then, he’s almost comically bad at being the big bad villain - he just leaves characters “for dead” twice, who of course turn out to be alive, for no good reason at all. Just, welp, I’m leaving now because whatever. Just to give the movie some cheap drama.
This movie doesn’t really have much of a plot to speak of. I think it might have more plot holes than actual plot. Plot holes you could drive a Turtle Van through. (Hey, how’s that for a DVD pull quote?)
It also doesn’t have any real characters; they’re all pretty broad, basic archetypes at best. There’s no real character development or “arc” for anyone. They try to shoehorn one in for Raphael at the end, but the only setup is a very brief scene early on where he threatens to abandon his family. Not much more comes of it, and his big “emotional breakthrough” falls totally flat. They’re trying to have a big character moment without doing the work to set it up.
In fact, there are a number of attempts at “serious”/emotional scenes that were completely laughable. There was nothing to sell them. They weren’t earned and fell flat. The movie does almost nothing to make you care about these characters - it’s assuming you already do, and that makes it fail on the most basic story level.
The mo-cap technology used is impressive on a technical level, but the directing make it impossible to believe they’re “real”. Part of that is because all of the shots with no humans in them (and there are a bunch) are in full CGI, and there’s no “real camera” to speak of. The way the digital camera zooms in and flies around looks incredibly fake and downright physically impossible, which makes all of those scenes feel like a cartoon or a video game. It doesn’t match up with the “real” footage at all, so it’s a really jarring, distracting fit that highlights how unreal the Turtles are. In a movie like this, it was the worst possible choice they could have made.
The action sequences are obnoxious. In fact, the entire movie seems to be directed by a 12-year-old with ADHD. The camera is constantly swooping in and out and tilting into dutch angles and spinning around and shaking with no rhyme or reason. There’s a scene where some random schlub answering a phone gets a dramatic camera swoop. It’s insane. There are no real storytelling skills on display here; it’s just trying to be as busy as possible so you won’t notice. At times it’s downright incomprehensible.
There’s really not that much more to say about it. It’s a bad movie. It’s pretty forgettable. You can barely even call it a movie, or a story, at all. It’s a bunch of mediocre video-game cut scenes sloppily cut together as a movie. But worst of all, it doesn’t do anything to stand out from the most generic superhero-style action movies out there. And for a TMNT movie, that’s probably the worst thing that can be said about it.
And that’s the thing… none of my main criticisms have anything to do with the changes to the Turtles’ designs, or the changes to the backstory, or Megan Fox, or any of the other reasons that have set the fanbase on edge. It’s all to do with this being a poorly-written, poorly-made movie on its own merits. There’s nothing worthwhile about it.

In the animated series, Splinter is a really cool character. He used to be Hamato Yoshi, he was a martial arts master, and was betrayed by Shredder. In this new one, he's just a lab rat who found a Karate book in a storm drain. There are no characters in this movie, so I didn't care what happened to any of them. The turtles aren't introduced until a 3rd of the way into the film. That strategy worked brilliantly in Godzilla because he's a monster. Here it doesn't work because they should be the heroes of the film. And here it doesn't even matter that they know ninjutsu because they're all giant, bullet proof, hulking monsters. Will Arnett's character, Michelangelo, and one scene in an elevator are funny; the rest of this movie is way too serious. And the whole time the music score tells you bombastically that everything you are seeing is just as amazing as a transformer. Go see Guardians of the Galaxy. It actually has characters, and wit, and charm. I'm not super surprised. I wasn't sure what to expect. I was hoping to enjoy it. I wasn't expecting high art, but I was disappointed that it was wasn't even as good as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993). Expand

I really don't watch the newer version of the rebooted cartoon on Nickelodeon (now that I stopped watching this horrid rip-off of the always enjoyable 80's cartoon that theme song get stuck to my head) and I haven't bought Turtles in Time for the SNES way back. Those were the good ol days when the Turtles were awesome these days. But in 2014, things have changed and I know this is the 2nd reboot in the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" film saga, but why in the hell would you rather give this reboot a PG-13 rated movie? In fact, how come you make an iconic franchise after 21 years of live-action fun and now dragging it through the ground? Easy, you take your trusty ex-girlfriend Megan Fox as April O'Neil, a terrible script, an unnecessary rap song about "Shell Shocked" that is deemed inappropriate for children and making fun out of Vanilla Ice's "Ninja Rap" classic, Johnny Knoxville's awful voice acting as Leonardo, so does the actor from Monk, and Pizza Hut. Can this thing ever get worse? Oh, and their new CGI look is f***ing terrible. If there's one thing is the absolute worst reboot movie of the year and no I don't wanna mention Transformers: Age of Extinction is this heroes in a crapshell mess. Take your $5 Pizza Hut box and shove it. Expand

Jonathan Liebesman, Michael Bay, Josh Appelbaum, and anyone else involved in the casting, writing, production, or direction of the film should be beaten with their choice of a sword, a bo staff, sais, and nunchakus. I didn't think it wasJonathan Liebesman, Michael Bay, Josh Appelbaum, and anyone else involved in the casting, writing, production, or direction of the film should be beaten with their choice of a sword, a bo staff, sais, and nunchakus. I didn't think it was possible to ruin a franchise more thoroughly and absolutely than they did. Let's start from the beginning, shall we? The concept of the movie was a complete and total failure. From the introduction sequence of the film to the look and origin of the turtles and Splinter to the overall storyline to how April O'Neil's character would be integrated to the absence of other key characters (Casey Jones anyone?) to how the conflict would be established to the decision to show Shredder's face and eliminate part of the mystery behind his character... it was all bad. I would assume that after they had the preliminary blueprint for the film, they would begin the writing process. Oh man, the writing was terrible! The dialogue felt forced and disingenuous and the script made it just about impossible for any cast to save the film. The characters are not developed at all and the plot is developed even less. How about the casting decisions? Megan Fox? Really? What about Megan Fox screams April O'Neil? Nothing, that's what. Why not go for Emma Stone, Amy Adams, Isla Fisher, Emma Stone, Jessica Chastain, Christina Hendricks, Emma Stone, Karen Gillan, or Rachel Nichols to play everyone's favorite redheaded reporter? Any of them could've provided the appropriate overall look for the character and they all would have their own unique spin on the feel. Whether it be sense of humor, acting style, sensuality, etc. What they all have in common is that they all would've been a better choice than Megan Fox. Oh, and did I mention Emma Stone? Because why bother going after the one actress every single TMNT fan wanted to see in the movie when you can land a brunette with too much plastic surgery and not enough acting chops. Yeah, that makes sense. The casting decisions for the turtles was nearly as bad. Outside of Alan Ritchson (Raphael), none of the other turtles even remotely sounded like their characters and the casting of Johnny Knoxville as Leonardo may have been the worst decision of them all. So now we have a mediocre script and cast, maybe the cinematography and special effects will be good, right? Ha! That's funny. No, instead we got a combination of some of the worst shaky cam, cgi, and overall cinematography I've ever seen. Honestly, it feels almost as if some idiot studio exec gave $125 to some bums off of the street and told them to reboot this beloved franchise. Actually, no, I think they would've done a better job. Rather than dissect what all is wrong with the film its much easier and faster to say what isn't. They managed to strike a fine balance with the ninja fighting where no one was obviously killed (by movie logic or 12 year old logic at least). Some of the fighting bits were amusing. William Fichtner did a good job with what he had to work with. It definitely fits the criteria of being a movie. It was competently filmed. It largely didn't hurt to look at. It makes the first ninja turtles film look heartfelt and good. And its a good example of the value of practical effects (because there weren't any and it showed).
Rather than go on about the rest and spoil things I'd rather point out a few obviously bad choices. Splinter has a fooman chu. Thats a bad guy hair style.
CG lens flare obviously added in post. Just why?
Overall, this film is terrible. Do not pay to see it.

The loving turtles were icons and role models for kids back then, even for me! This reboot manages to wipe out the charm and fun out of TMNT itself. It's another CGI animated action movie with a washed out plot and cheesy dialogues. To come to this all time low, the franchise had to suffer through a bad series of kid movies by Nick and this film is also made by Nick. God. The turtles are back! Yay! Or not. Maybe. The film starts out with boring scenes between April O Neil played by Megan Fox and Vernon Ferwick played by Will Arnett. And Bernadette played by Whoppi Goldberg. Gosh, why did you do that Jonathan Libesman!? This movie was all about special affects and I have to say the avalanche seen was crazy awesome and it was the only thing that was good. By the time turtles show up it's been 30 or 20 minutes. This could have been just called April and Vernon forever in 3D. The turtles are funny, the jokes are washed out but still- TURTLES!!!! After that we meet William Fitchner who plays Eric Sachs, who nobody cares about. Seriously. Shredder shows up after 50 minutes and then everything goes boom blam and boom. For the rest of the movie. When it ended, I was glad that people don't have to watch bad jokes and mind numbing CGI for another hour. These turtles are nothing like the originals. The story is new. Everything is new. Sometimes that's not a bad thing, but now it is. I was hoping this would stay faithful to the TMNT movie. But no, it's YET ANOTHER Micheal Bay bang bang boom movie. It's bad, sloppy TMNT. I give it 1/10 because the did a good job with that avalanche scene. Everything else- 0/10. Another box office bomb. This time it landed on the turtles. Expand

ON NICKELODEON!? Michael Bay should be sued on using this license to help motivate kids into watching the TMNT Show.... Which by doing that is adding guns into it so they can get every 7 year old into loving it. This movie is garbage. Please, save yourself 10$ and don't watch. Your eyes might bleed. I think I made the worst possible choice of what movie I wanted to see this weekend. I never watch movies 2 times, but I think I would have been extremely better off seeing Guardians of the Galaxy again than watching this monstrosity. I kid you not, this is the worst movie I have seen all year. Yes, worse than Transformers 4. Anyway, let me tell you why it is so godawful. The storyline here is something you've seen over and over again in TMNT lore. Splinter raises the 4 turtles, they rise up to be true ninjas and then they fight against Shredder and the Foot Clan. Yes, it's produced by Michael Bay. Thankfully, though, the plot doesn't become jumbled, but so much of the movie felt like Michael Bay was the director entirely. Stupid writing, plot points, acting, and so much more plague the film. Megan Fox plays April O'Neil, and while she's not terrible, she's not very good, either. Will Arnett's character is annoying, and William Fichtner brings nothing to the table. Shredder is supposed to be a true menace with dark tales to be told, but that's not here. The action sequences here aren't that great. While I did adore the snowy mountain action sequence, the other action scenes (the 4 turtles pretty much just beating the sh*t out of the Foot Clan) weren't as exciting as they should've been. Michaelangelo, Raphael, Donatello, and Leonardo aren't at their best here, but they are all slightly serviceable. What I really found dull in them is that none of them were very likable to me, and these turtles should be that in every way. I will be honest with you here: the only good thing in this movie to me was the 10-15 minute snowy mountain action sequence. Besides that, this movie is well deserving of being my least favorite of the year so far. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I watched Ninja Turtles when I was younger, I woke up every morning, ate my breakfast and saw the cartoon. It was part of my childhood, along with Spider-Man cartoons. I loved every episode and after seeing other mediocre film adaptations of this super-hero team, I finally sat through this loud, boring clusterf*ck of a movie. Boy, what a breakthrough! After watching this abomination, I can pretty much tell that it's another Michael Bay fest with the same disgusting stereotypes, lame pop culture references, uninvolving action and creppy-looking creatures of other motion pictures directed by him, and I know what you're saying. You're saying that Michael Bay isn't producing. Well, that's no large feat. The guy was evidenced in the final product in a way that shows he had plenty involvement in the production of this movie. But the movie does look like something out of a Michael Bay film and it's near as sh*tty as "Transformers: Age of Extinction". It's like you replace the Autobots with the Turtles and there you have it... another Transformers installment.

Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April O'Neil and her cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder's diabolical plan.

The action, which seemed fun by the looks of the trailer, is incoherently shot, badly edited and terribly directed. Producer Michael Bay learned absolutely nothing from its latest film and when I say "latest", I mean "Transformers: Age of Extinction". The action in Transformers 4 was excessive, boring and extremely stupid and that threatens to happen here, in TMNT. The scene where the Turtles meet April O'Neil on the rooftop, they jump from the roof to the sewer and the camera just f*cking rotates in a jarring fashion that it's almost unbearably nauseating. I mean, I get it Michael Bay, you're trying to connect people with the 3D but there are other ways to do that without being stupid. There's actually something called "coherence". The computer animation doesn't help much either, oh yes, the CGI. Oh my God, between the design of Shredder, which makes me wanna point a gun to my mouth, to the design of the Turtles themselves, which makes me wanna shoot everyone involved in the effects. It's so freaking ugly!

Megan Fox is a horrible actress. Her facial expression in the whole damn movie is almost the same. She doesn't look scared (when she's supposed to) and doesn't look happy (when she also is supposed to). Fox said in a press conference that anyone who criticized TMNT should **** off". It's interesting how she doesn't give a f*ck whether her movie is good or not. She also said that "those people" will all go to the theater. F*ck you, Megan Fox! Do you think I want to give my money to someone incompetent like Michael Bay who only puts you in his goddamn films because you have **** You and your boss can go passionately to the toilet, while I go see movies with much more coherence and importance. If you weren't such ignorant b*tch, you would skip your depilation sessions to take some acting lessons. Christ.

F*ck this movie. This is will be in my 3rd top of "Worst Movies of 2014". Avoid this movie at all cost, or you will be tormented with a contrived, generic plot, terrible acting, dull action, unsightly special effects and one of the most cliched villains ever.

*Sighs* I'm gonna give this movie an 1/10. God help us all.

If you haven't seen Guardians of the Galaxy yet then go and watch it now, it's a great film and not a waste of precious time and money like this TMNT abomination.

A huge TMNT franchise fan going back to the 80's. The worst possible version of the franchise. Instead of small, tactical, and funny. They are large, ugly, tanking idiots. Worst Movie I have seen in a very long time.

I might have liked it, if I was 10 years old. As a fan of the old movies, I must say I am disappointed. I guess I should not be surprised it sucked, since Michael Bay was involved. Ref. Transformers. *sadface*

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is a bland and derivative mess with absolutely no creativity or originality or talent on show at all. It's a failure on every conceivable level. Don't bother with it. The film-makers clearly didn't.

If you want to see new TMNT, tune into Nickelodeon for the new cartoon. Where this movie is bland and an obvious cash grab, the new cartoon is charming with awesome nods to the series from the 80's and 90's. The only way we can stop the destruction of the things we loved from childhood is to stop funneling money into projects like this by seeing them.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reminds me of my latest crap. Just because something is nostalgic does NOT make it good. It is the what you see that counts. And when it comes to that, this movie fails...hard.

CONS:
Megan Fox can act her way out of a TMNT lunch box.
William Fichtner is clearly phoning it in and his character is complete unbelievable.
Johnny Knoxville does an awful job voicing Leo.
The explosions look more like fireworks than explosions.

Overall very disappointing.

Positives: The wife laughed everytime megan fox was loudly breathing on camera(pretty much every scene she's in). Seriously, does she have strong acute asthma or something?

Negatives: Pretty much everything else about the movie.

Why do people still flock by the masses to the cinematic crapfest that Michael Bay is part of? Transformers 4 has just pulled in over $1 billion world wide and it's yet to open in some countries in Europe. Read a book, challenge yourself cognitively by even watching good film makers like Kubrick, Nolan and Aronofsky. The "whatever makes money" approach continues to work because people keep seeing Razzie movies, as Bay only knows how to make. Expand

Shredder has absolutely no reason to hate the turtles, seriously. The plot revolves around him and a scientist (Eric Sach's) wanting to poison the city, and make money off the cure. The cure is the Turtles blood. So essentially, there's really no need for any real hate towards the turtles and their rat father, they're just ingredients to a financial gain. Sounds exciting right? (The answer is no).

Meaghan Fox's acting range is limited to three key moves 1) Out of breath (seriously, there is like 5 scenes where she's explaining things out of breath, but she wasn't running or anything) 2) Sexy (yup, you're hot, good job) 3) Shock (she seems to use this when 1 and 2 don't fit the part). The movie revolves around her too. Her co-star Will Arnett (who I usually like) delivers lines that are so bad he can't even save them with his patented over the top delivery. Are we even watching a TMNT movie?

They could remove Ninja from the title and it would make more sense, these hulking monsters overpower every enemy (except robo-Shredder) with their strength, no exciting fight scenes, just a lot of bullets, and people thrown.

Splinter acts Asian, but why, he's an American lab rat who discovered a martial arts training manual in a sewer. This is like taking karate lessons, and all of a sudden growing a Fu Man Chu, because you know Karate.

There's a total of 4 fight scenes in the movie, all of which are in darkness, and show quick glimpses of the turtles foes getting thrown around like rag dolls.

Save your money, or if you're looking for a good summer flick go see Guardians of the Galaxy.

That's all this movie is, a cash grab. Micheal Bay, the man who single handedly destroyed the transformers destroyed TMNT as well. He did NOT direct the movie however, he had a large creative role in shaping the movie. The story did not stay true to the comic book. The turtles look like the aliens from Avatar. In the comic books, the turtles are short (no taller than 5 feet tall). However in this movie they are giants. Transformers had giant robots so Bay figured TMNT needed giant turtles. Megan Fox was a terrible choice for April O'Neil. She can't act. She doesn't even look like April. She could have at least dyed her hair and got the ****** hair color right. William Fichtner as the Shredder. Bay mentioned in an interview that he did not feel comfortable working with Asians and found them to be creepy. He said that was the reason behind the Japanese having very little screen time in Pearl Harbor. Racist Bay decided casting a white guy as Shredder would be a good idea. William Fitchner is just as much of a racist for helping to contribute to "Yellowface" in Hollywood. I even tweeted him about it on twitter and he told me to go back to China and blocked me. F him. The TMNT films from the early 90s are far superior and are much closer to the comic books. This TMNT film is much closer to the god awful cheesy 80s cartoon. Michael is basically the Justin Bieber of movies. Or you could say Michael Bay is like a reverse King Midas because everything he touches turns into poo poo. Expand
