Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club) went through meticulous preparation for his role as the Joker, including mailing a live rat to his onscreen girlfriend, Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street). Women all over were cosplaying as Harley Quinn months before this film even was completed. A group of fans formed a petition to shut down RottenTomatoes after critics gave it a 35% rating only three days before its release. So now, it’s time to ask: was it worth all the hubabaloo?

Essentially, in this first ever villain ensemble picture, these imprisoned denizens of the law are temporarily released from their cells for a top secret mission. The government is already worried of another Superman coming to earth, so they have no other options besides rely on these metahumans to stop a typical extra-dimensional villain from creating yet another doomsday over the world. If they succeed, they get ten years off their prison sentence. If they fail, they die.

The result is an edgier version of Guardians of the Galaxy, except without the fun, fascinating imagery, impressive CGI, or anything else that makes this stand out as its own entity. Like any other action movie these days, it resorts to constant close-up motion sickness in all the action scenes, overusing noisy colors and upbeat pop music to add flavor. The entire first forty minutes is a meticulous bore to manage through, as it overuses backstory exposition and flashback on every single character. And yes, I do mean every single one. Anyways, after this torturous, lengthy intro, the movie finally gets started with the villains gearing up for their mission under the supervision of the CIA. It’s a pretty wild ride if you are an expert at keeping track of ten different subplots from one-dimensional characters fighting for the audience’s attention.

The team is not full of the biggest failures known to mankind, but they’re not going to be remembered within an hour after the first meeting. From what I remembered, there was a masked Japanese warrior named Katana (Karen Fukuhara) whose husband is trapped in her sword. There was also an offensive Australian stereotype named Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) who exists for no reason besides comic relief. Then there was Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), who does next to nothing memorable besides being rolled in a restraining harness like Hannibal Lecter. Then there was the skeleton-tatted El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), who stands out with his surprisingly tragic backstory. Then there was the governmental supervisor of the squad (Viola Davis) who likes to control them as their god.

The squad does have a couple of redeeming members who want something out of their mission. El Diablo is certainly one, but the rogue gunman Deadshot (Will Smith) makes one of the film’s greater impressions. Now, it’s not to say that Will Smith was any good in the role, because he honestly does exactly the same routine as all his 90’s roles. Even his character’s backstory feels clichéd to Smith’s type of character. He has a daughter, you see, and she does not approve of his murderous lifestyle. She even puts her own life at risk to stop her father from killing anyone else. It feels pretty sweet, but haven’t we seen this before?

Now as for Jared Leto’s highly anticipated performance as the Joker, I hate to break it to you: he let me down. With all we have heard about what he did to prepare for his role to make it his own, the crew barely gives him any useful material to work off of. The closest thing to disturbing he gets to is laughing like a pedophile inside a circle of knives.

Everyone thought he would be the best part of the movie, but you know what was the best part? Not the Joker, but the Joker’s lil’ monster. Margot Robbie is both deliciously seductive and delightfully psychotic as Harley Quinn, balancing that behavior with a girly innocence to generate a believable romance with the clown prince of crime. She has the only flashbacks that I was okay with seeing, particularly one where she willfully jumps into a vat of chemicals for a twisted make-out session with her beau. Sure, she may have been a bit too sexualized for what her character called for, but I would have much preferred her to be the sole main character than to have five different leads.

We’ve never seen anything quite like this movie, and I’m sure this will not be the last supervillain ensemble picture. I’m sure that the crimes that Suicide Squad has committed on storytelling will not remain in the public’s memories, but I already presume a long and successful screen career for the fresh Margot Robbie.

It's not a comic book masterpiece, but at the same time, I've seen WAAAAAAAAAAAY worse movies in 2016. Was the editing a mess? Oh yeah. Was Enchantress a weak villain? Yup. Was the Joker severely underused? HELL YES.

In fact, let's talk about Jared Leto's Joker for a bit, because I actually liked what Jared Leto was going for. But here's the problem, and I think it's probably the reason why a lot of people think it was Jared Leto's fault. The Joker was never given context. He's just put in some random scenes where he's doing something weird and we never see the full context of what he's doing.

For example, for the longest time, I never thought the quote "Why so serious" from The Dark Knight was a clever quote on its own. It's actually kinda silly if you just say "Why so serious" out of nowhere. BUT, when you put that quote in the context of the scene where the Joker is telling his "origin story", "Why so serious" now has weight to it. There's a reason for it to be said. And that's the same with Jared Leto as the Joker, his scenes are never given context, therefore we THINK it's Jared Leto that's the problem.

It's not Jared Leto's fault, it's not the directing, and I don't even think it's the writing for his dialogue. The problem was the fact that the Joker wasn't the villain of the movie. And you know how it would make the movie better?

Well for starters, it would make more sense for the Suicide Squad to even be a thing. How in the world can a chick with a baseball bat, a crocodile man, a guy who shoots really well, a guy who can climb a rope, a chick with a sword, a dude who can spew fire from his hands, and a dude with a boomerang possibly stop the next Superman? It would make a lot more sense for the Suicide Squad to go on missions like stopping the Joker. Mainly because while he's too dangerous for regular cops, the Suicide Squad can actually take him in a fight!

Secondly, it would create more (good) drama! Since Harley Quinn and the Joker are a couple, it would create more of an internal conflict for Harley Quinn. Help out in the mission or help out her Puddin'? This would be so cool to see!

And finally, like I said before, it would give Jared Leto's Joker more context. If he was the villain instead of Enchantress, it would not only be better for the story, but I truly believe people wouldn't be as hard on Jared Leto for his performance.

All in all, I like Suicide Squad. It's a perfectly okay film.

The third instalment in DC Extended Universe took a different direction and features supervillains as main characters instead of usual superheroes which have they been face of the superhero genre for many years. For this review, I will be writing based on the Extended Cut, instead of the theatrical version.

After the death of Superman as depicted in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Amanda Waller (Davis) pitches her ideas to US military officials about forming a team of dangerous criminals known as Task Force X under her command where they will be put to good use for black ops and highly dangerous missions for the US government. The team members are consists of Floyd Lawton/Deadshot (Smith), Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn (Robbie), Digger Harkness/Captain Boomerang, Chato Santana/El Diablo, Waylon Jones/Killer Croc, Christopher Weiss/Slipknot and Dr. June Moone/Enchantress.

The Enchantress is a demonic entity who actually possessed Dr. Moone sometimes ago during her archaeology expedition and prior to her recruitment to the team, goes rogue and frees her brother, Incubus, who was sealed in an ancient idol under the Waller’s possession. Together, they attack Midway City and transform civilians into monsters as part of her plans to eradicate the humans for imprisoning her long ago.

Task Force X is assembling immediately with Colonel Rick Flag as team leader and Tatsu Yamashiro/Katana as last minute addition of team member. Waller gives the team their first mission which is to extract a HVT (high value target) out of the city. If they succeed, they will get some time off from prison sentence. Should they attempt to escape or rebel during the mission, the nanite bomb implanted into their neck earlier will explode and die. Meanwhile, Joker and his gang are planning a rescue mission to save Harley.

Margot Robbie’s performance of Harley Quinn stole the spotlight in this movie. She was simply amazing and she is definitely born to play the character. Will Smith’s take on Deadshot is good despite the race change but I felt his version of the character is way too similar to his other action movie roles he have done in his career. Unfortunately, I was disappointed that Jared Leto’s role as Joker was totally underused and does not contribute much in the plot. Since Joker has been A-list character and main villain in previous DC movies, this is purely a wasted opportunity for him to shine.

The plot of the movie should have been better but it served as more of a side stories which you have the option to skip it if you want. Having Joker as the main villain would have made the movie more interesting and fun while Enchantress could have been use for future Suicide Squad movies. Using a lighter tone for Suicide Squad does not really fit them since they are supervillains and having R rated instead of PG-13 rated. On the good side, the costumes, makeup and hairstyling are great especially Killer Croc, Harley Quinn and even Joker which makes them more similar to their comic book counterparts.

The Extended Cut does not really make any difference because it does not really contributed much to the plot and does not restored many scenes that have been cut from the theatrical version. Even worst, there are not many scenes restored for Joker which further proved that he was wasted in this movie. You won’t miss anything much if you are watching the Extended Cut. Last but not least, be sure to stay back for a mid-credits scene.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Suicide Squad... This movie was a helicopter wreck. It fills itself with cringey moments, poor writing, and bad editing. It's one of those things that makes you think, "How did we get here? How did something with so much potential end up in such a horrible state?" It is a mystery to all but executives, but one thing is for certain. This movie failed on every level, be it emotional, productional, and plotwise. One of these particular reasons could be that Warner Bros saw such rotten responses for Batman V Superman for being too serious, ending up in an even worse trainwreck than Suicide Squad. They recognized the complaints of their audience, and made the swift decision to have massive reshoots to make Suicide Squad more lighthearted, costing upwards of 22 million dollars. Pack that in with the fact that they hired a trailer company to edit their movie, and you've got a failed blockbuster on your hands. But it isn't just the editing or the strange sense that you're watching two movies edited together, making for a tone that's neither comedic nor dramatic. This movie, like other DCEU movies, suffers from an influx of characters whom we have no attachment to. This sort of kills the stakes. Nearly every character in this movie has never been seen on screen before this movie. This takes away any emotion we could have for any of them. Characters are introduced very swiftly, only to die minutes later. Some characters shouldn't even be on the Suicide Squad, most notably Katana, but they just show up to join the crew. The way most characters are introduced is perhaps one of the worst things I've seen in a movie. Amanda Waller reads their name off a paper as we see an animatic of the character being introduced with their character traits on the screen beside them. The movie introduces characters to you by telling you their character traits in a couple sentences. That's the most egregious examples of telling, not showing. The exact opposite of what you want. Needlesly expositing information like that is horrific. Of course, perhaps it could have been forgiven if the characters were interesting, and for a select few, you can sort of get behind them. Will Smith's Killshot and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn are somewhat interesting and portayed well by their actors. But for the most part, most of the characters are struggling to deliver their lines in a proper way. That's not really on the actor's part, though, because most of the lines in this movie are so ridiculous, that it would be impossible to deliver them properly. They've leaned so far into the comedic side that they lost the comedy and simply become a broken mess that doesn't even be serious when it needed to be. ||A scene in which the Suicide Squad are in a building with Waller, whom they're supposed to rescuing, sees Waller shoot the FBI agents who are with her. This should be a very serious moment, and the movie almost reflects this. But it ruins it with a joke made by Will Smith's Deadshot. This is exactly what is wrong with this movie.|| This movie follows a very basic superhero plot, following this team go into a city to stop a villain from destroying the world with a skybeam. This isn't nessasarily a bad thing. But when it's carried on in a messy, choppy way that doesn't have *any* new ideas, it doesn't work. This movie carried itself in a way that didn't care about it's audience, and in the end, Suicide Squad is a failed attempt at what could have been a fantastic movie. Expand

It's not a terrible movie, but it's not a great movie, either. There's a lot to like here, but like so many of the bad comic book movies, there's way too much going on. And when dumb stuff happens, you try not to think about it, just go with the flow.

And as is typical of DC movies of late, there's too much of a rushed plot. None of these characters yet exist in the DC movie universe, so there's no appreciation of them. But we get the typical DC rushed backstory. That's great if you're a fan of the comics and you're already invested in these characters; I suspect most viewers will not be.

It's hard not to make the Marvel/DC comparision. But DC isn't really learning why Marvel is making great movies. Marvel is building a universe. They are taking their time when they draw rich characters, and they don't bury them in character-heavy movies -- that is, until you've gotten to know each of them personally.

Back to this movie. Very first problem I had with it -- about 20 mins in, I'm asking myself, "Why are they building a bad guy team when there's no threat?" Building a dysfunctional superpower team seems like it should be a Hail Mary pass, and not the first string players.

I liked each of the villains (except Captain Boomerang, who's just ridiculous here). It would have been great if DC had taken their time, and done a Deadshot standalone movie first. Maybe a Harley Quinn/Joker movie (there were certainly enough flashback scenes that a basic story was coming through).

Again, decent popcorn flick if you love the genre. If you're tired of comic book movies, it's a skip.

It had a stellar cast that included Oscar winner Jarred Leto and rising star Margot Robbie, it was being helmed by director David Ayer who's written great villainous leads in the past such as Alonzo Harris in Training Day and the trailers made it look like we were going to get everything that we'd want from a Suicide Squad movie. But somewhere along the line all this potential got wasted and Suicide Squad has ended up being the biggest misfire from DC Entertainment since Green Lantern.

The Suicide Squad is based around a group of dangerous meta-humans put together by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) and led by Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman). This team includes the most deadly shooter in the world Deadshot (Will Smith), the Jokers girlfriend Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), an Australian thief called Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), a fire conjurer called El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), a human reptile called Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and a woman with a sword capable of trapping the souls of its victims named Katana (Karen Kukuhara).

Unfortunately the film seems to glaze through all the character introductions as quickly as I've done in the last paragraph, with Viola Davis presenting each of the characters in the beginning as if she were reading off the background summaries from trading cards. Even Harley Quinn, who has one of the darkest and most interesting backstories of how she entered an abusive relationship with the Joker, has her history summed up in a very brief two minute flashback. Although she still gets more time to be introduced than most, with some characters just showing up out of nowhere to join the team without any explanation whatsoever.

In spite of the core concept of the suicide squad being that they're a task force of dangerous villains, the film makes every member of the squad seem like very noble characters. Whilst the film constantly reminds us that they're "the bad guys", there never seems to be much to differentiate the Suicide Squad from any other superhero team. At one point there's nothing stopping some members of the Squad from simply leaving, but they still stay for no other reason than to save the day. Their characterisation is similar to the crew from the Fast and Furious films. Sure they're criminals, but at the end of the day we're supposed to root for them since they're still going to do the right thing. They just complain more whilst they do it.

Though the films saving grace is that it does have some great performances. Will Smith brings back the charm and quick wit that made him a star in films like Independence Day and Men in Black. Margot Robbie gives Harley Quinn a great live action cinematic debut with an unpredictable, chaotic nature that feels partly like the Joker and partly like the wife from the Honeymooners.

Viola Davies brings a level of cold heartedness and brutality to Amanda Waller in a performance that is probably the most loyal to the comics of any character in the film. The film also boosts a charismatic and loud mouthed performance from Jai Courtney and a surprisingly heartfelt performance by Jay Harnandez, whose fire blasting antihero ends up getting the best story arc of the entire film.

These performances are so good that most of the films best moments are when the film has the characters personalities bounce off one another, like Captain Boomerang teasing other members or Deadshot annoying El Diablo to get him to burn out a room full of enemies. The best scene in the film ends up just being when the squad stops to get some drinks in the bar and just start talking to each other.

It's just a shame that Jared Leto, one of the films strongest cast members, doesn't even get an opportunity to interact with any members of the Suicide Squad other than Harley Quinn. In fact, in spite of Leto's prominent billing in marketing he hardly gets any screen time throughout the entire film. He was great in the short time he got, giving the Joker a young, brutal, mob boss style, so I'm looking forward to seeing him in future DC films. But his talents do not get the chance to shine here.

Supposedly there was a lot cut from the film, including a lot more of the Joker and several cool trailer moments that don't end up appearing in the final film. So just like Dawn of Justice: Ultimate Edition there is probably a better version of the Suicide Squad sitting on a cutting room floor somewhere. But unless that gets released I'd advise just checking out the animated movie Batman: Assault on Arkham. It's does far better justice to the Suicide Squad characters and is everything that this film should have been.

I can't call this a bad film, I actually think it's the best DCEU film to date but it has a lot of flaws.
The acting is solid (The first time I've ever thought Jai Courtney was good!!!) and the sound track is pretty good to but narratively the whole thing plays out like a movie adaptation of a video game that doesn't exist.
The first half raised my expectations high featuring a cool recruiting montage with the exposition weaved in pretty smoothly but about half way through you start to notice some really choppy editing.
Like I say, the actors all do a good job but the characters motivations and morality all get really jumbled up and the relationship between the Suicide Squad members is kind of jarring. They barely even know each other and then about an hour into the film suddenly they become incredibly close out of no where, as if there was an important bonding scene for them that was cut out at the last minute and they didn't have time to smooth it over.
The villain is nothing special really. She has the same plan that several other comic book movie villains have had in the past few years, that being to use an army of disposable drones to take over the world with the help of a giant blue beam shooting into the sky (because we haven't seen enough of those.)
Jared Leto's Joker is cool but he's barely in it. After they've been hyping this character up for over a year I was expecting more than 7 or 8 minutes.
There's fun to be had with this film, it has good moments and it looks pretty but it's just kind of a mess. All the raw components are there to make a quality movie but it just feels really cobbled together.

The Deadshot and Flagg story arcs were a total unemotional snooze fest..... Deadshot wants to be a good father but is a hitman who dresses like a 70s pimp when not geared up and when he does get geared up, doesn't wear the mask 90% of the film because "Will Smith needs face time". Then you have Flagg who is played by Kinnaman, an actor who doesn't have the skillset to show off "emotional sadness" and confuses it with constipation... Was the Joker in this film? Oh yeah, talk about a waste of a character. Great work Leto, you turned the Joker into a 5ht grader wearing braces. Glad to see the Firework guy from Joe Dirt got a cameo in which he shows off his skillset. The longer the movie went on, the more bored I became. Warner Bros. needs to hurry up and find talented script writers, not just big names going forward. If the script was halfway good, the cast would get **** on less, but nope, another boring, rush to market job by WB. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly mediocre. It's not nearly as bad as X-Men Origins, but it's not a good movie.
Corporate meddling and focus group marketing are evident. Too much time is spent in slow-motion popular-music sequences and there is too much focus on Deadshot and Harley Quinn to the detriment of the rest of the cast.
Also, for a "suicide" squad the death toll is surprisingly low.
It should have been a character-driven film, like a Tarantino movie, but the interactions between the Squad members and the dialogue were not particularly outstanding.
It manages to be entertaining at least, and the performances are quite good. No complaints on the look of the characters either.

All things considered, it could have been a great movie. If a sequel is ever filmed it hope they learn from this one.

They are not superheroes, they are supervillains.

It's nothing against DC, but overall I'm starting to think the todays cinema is getting crowded with the lots of superheroes. Just like any pollution or the over population on the earth's surface. It needs stability, but nobody cares about it other than money making agenda. I also think it's going to last for only a few more years, when this trend going to end like that happened in the 70s, 80s and the 90s. And the space travel era to begin which is already kick- started. So DC or Marvel and others, they should be careful, for far they could take their products.

Like the title say, it's not just about the film characters, the film itself a suicidal. I'm not saying the film was unnecessary, but the plot was dragged too much. There are too many pauses, or you can call time wasting moments. I could not take another blowing up city concept. And that swirling thing in the sky, I don't know how long they are going to use it in the superhero films. I did not like the supernatural concept which is supposed to be a pure science fiction action adventure. At least Thor was from another planet, more like he's an alien, but the witch in this film, ruined my appetite.

The actors were not bad and so the graphics, including the stunt sequences. The story was very familiar. It was more or less, same as the animated flick 'Monsters vs Aliens'. It can be watched for entertainment purpose, the majority won't say it's their favourite or one of the best of the year. But surely there are people who would love it. It was a massive box office hit and I don't see any hurdle for its sequel, but all I hope is it to get better in the follow-up. So finally, it's not a bad film or boring, but it just did not have the midas touch that all the superhero films had. That means a watchable film, only for once.

While I don't think anyone could do what Heath Ledger did in The Dark Knight; I did think Leto had an interesting take on the character. Poor script, cinematography, music, and direction makes Suicide Squad a dull time. I enjoyed David Ayer's "End of Watch" but "Fury" and now this minor catastrophe has me second-guessing him as a director. Margot Robbie makes a case for her Harley Quinn character to continue in some kind of sequel, I suppose. Jared Leto's Joker is pretty over-the-top and strangely harmless, more like the clown you hired for your son's birthday party showing up high at your front door.

The whole thing is wildly unbalanced. Army Chinook helicopters repeatedly falling out of the sky. Long scenes of exposition that leave you scratching your head in a WTF way. Too much Will Smith (he of the almost six billion dollar worldwide box office). DC Comics is starting to dig a substantial cinematic hole for themselves thanks to the bombastic direction and production tastes of a certain Zack Snyder. It all started with "Man of Steel", continued with this spring's underwhelming "Batman v. Superman", and now we have a straight-up contender for the 2016 Razzies top prize. At this point, Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy almost seems like IT must have come from another planet.

I know the trailers made it look funny but these were all the funny moments. The action is terrible. We see the squad enter a city with crashed A10-Thunderbolt IIs and I have to wonder how awesome that must have been had we seen that movie instead. Actually, seeing serious military hardware littering a city like trash makes me wonder how the government expects a crazy woman with a baseball bat to make a difference. With the exception of a guy who can create fire, none of the squaddies do anything a trained soldier couldn't do. Even the fire guy could be replaced by a flame thrower. The enemies in this movie are made to be PG-13 friendly. They are all living statues that don't spew blood or show organs when the squaddies cut them half. This makes the fights incredibly boring. The final fight with the big boss is just silly. Somehow the boss is able to take out airplanes but can't hit a human when he or she ducks. The last fight with the true enemy looks like unfinished footage. Doesn't help that the setting looks like the ending of the original Ghostbusters. The worst of offense of this movie is giving the bad guys a heart. We have a team notoriously self centered criminals who easily turn on their partners and then expect them to bond and become good guys in two hours. The fun of having bad guys fight the good fight is that you can enjoy watching everything terrible happen to them because they kind of deserve it. It's like what Marv says in Sin City, "I love hitmen. No matter what you do to them, you don't feel bad." For some dumb reason, Warner Bros. wants you to feel bad about what happens to the Suicide Squad.

One last note on the reviews. Critics hated this film and rightly so. Yet you see user scores above the 50% mark. This is a common occurrence of cognitive dissonance. Fans are excited about the film for over a year, they pay their good money to see on opening day, and then they give up 2.5 hours of their precious time to watch it. Rather than admit disappointment and feel bad, their brains concoct an alternate reality in which the movie is good. Critics don't have this problem because they see movies for free and they don't give a crap about DC's licensing efforts. If you really are a fan of these characters, you want a better movie for them.

Most of the marketing for Suicide Squad has been extremely good and has kept me pumped since 2015. Now the big question is, is it any good? Well, overall it's enjoyable, but it does not exceed expectations in many ways. I really hoped that this film would make up for the disappointing and very flawed film Batman V Superman, and all though it is better than it, it didn't prove to me that the DCEU is trying it's absolute best. Now before I get into the negatives about the film, I'm going to talk about the pros about this film. First or all let me get this out of the way, Jared Leto as the Joker was absolutely great. I loved his performance he wasn't trying to copy Heath Ledger or Nicholson he was his own unique gangster, mob Joker that really caught my interest. Now this does lead me into one con that I will talk about towards the end of this review. Deadshot and Harley Quinn, my gosh were probably the best characters in the film. I loved seeing these two on screen they were portrayed perfectly especially Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Diablo, Captain Boomerang, and Rick Flag were also great characters. Killer Croc, Katana, and Slipknot were on and off characters to me, sometimes they had fine moments and sometimes they didn't. Amanda Waller I believe would've been a great character if she didn't make some certain choices in the film that honestly made no sense or were never explained. Now the action in the film was pretty fun for the most part. I liked the fighting I like the flashback character origin stories that all happen at the beginning of the film which are by far the most entertaining aspects of the film. I also liked how there was a lot of really funny humor in the film as well which was definitely a plus. The films first two acts are pretty entertaining for the most part I enjoyed them. Oh Yah, Batman killed it once again in the film like he did in BVS. Now that I've got most of the Pros out of the way it's time to get into the negatives of the film. This films editing honestly was pretty bad. I know the film had to do last minute film shootings and editing and I think that might have made the film take a turn for the worst. The film is pretty fast paced which may seem like a good thing, but it really wasn't cause the editing was so choppy that there was no breathing time for me to process what was happening on screen. The editing sometimes really confused and took me out of this film. Also, the soundtrack is a great soundtrack but most of the music interjected into the film was so loud and so out of place that it distracted me from many scenes, one in particular which I will not spoil which contains the Joker that really threw me off. Also another con is the main finale battle of the film was extremely terrible. It almost reminded me of the ending of the new Fantastic Four, it was obviously not as bad but it was extremely lazily made. Also there is so much scenes that felt like they were missing from the film that the plot became extremely confusing and stupid at times and almost made no sense at all which really told me that the people working on the plot of the film did a poor job. There's also some over- dubbing for the voices of the characters that you can tell were voice-overs which really took me out of the film one in particular with the Joker that almost made me laugh cause it was so badly dubbed. Also, no spoilers of course Enchantress and the villain of this film were done very poorly. Enchantress was a fine character at the beginning but slowly morphed into a cheesy character and the villain was so cliché and lame which really bugged me. Some of the line delivery in this film was sometimes extremely out of place and truly cringe- worthy even though the majority of the film does have decent dialogue. Its just that some of the poorly done dialogue probably had to due with the factor of the editing that made it seem poorly done. And a huge disappointing factor of the film is that the Joker is barely even in the film. He's literally interjected into 30 second mini scenes throughout the entire runtime of the film. My final flaw with this film is the emotional levels they try to present in this film. There is so many scenes in this movie that try to be emotional and try to touch your heart when really it just comes out as either confusing or extremely messy. I do enjoy how they tried to bring heart into this film, but some of it was done very strangely, and not in a positive way for sure. Overall though I think if you go into this film with an open mind knowing that this film is going to be an average fun blockbuster film you really will enjoy it. If you're going to go into it thinking its going to be the DC film that saves the DCEU and "Oh this is going to be a awesome film," you will most likely hate this film. To me this film is overall a disappointment but it is still a somewhat enjoyable. Suicide Squad is a film with an extreme amount of editing problems and flaws, but it has just enough action and likable characters that it can be enjoyed as an okay, summer blockbuster popcorn-flick. Overall Grade: C Metascore Score: 5.5/10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a mess. Decent performances by Will Smith and Margot Robbie fight against this chopped up train wreck. In the end it is passable entertainment but it certainly isn’t what was meant by the filmmakers. Way too many characters almost all of which are criminally underdeveloped. The so called bad guys actually never do anything worse than say the Avengers would which takes away from the entire premise. The tone is all over the place. This was clearly a different movie originally before a panicked DC Universe chopped it up trying to make it more Guardians of the Galaxy. The Joker is half in and half out and Jared Leto becomes a decent scapegoat for what went wrong, but substituting him halfway through for a 90’s villain that looks like he came out of a Street Fighter film is not an improvement.

The movie suffers from both attention deficit disorder as being a showcase for the crimes against show don’t tell. The movie tells us Rick Flag is in love with June Moone / Enchantress a silly device much of the plot rests on and yet Cara Delevingne and Joel Kinnaman have zero chemistry in their scenes together. Harley Quinn and Batman have a more convincing relationship in this movie, Watchable in a turn your mind off kind of way. Just don’t think what could or even should have been.

Character development was average apart from Harley Quinn and Deadshot. The action was decent and character interaction was good, keeping the film afloat but parts of the dialogue felt either too cringey or out of place. There was not enough of our favourite Batman villain nor did he have too much impact. Cameos by the Bat himself and The Flash were welcome though. A few plot holes didn't help the story and I felt that certain scenes were either underdeveloped or too long and unnecessary. Suicide Squad holds its own as a superhero movie but just barely. It lacks the dramatic tension of Batman v Superman or the choreography of Man of Steel but is definitely enough to moderately entertain the audience. I feel that this is the first (and hopefully only) DCEU film to be sub-par. In terms of characters, it felt as if Batman's cameo had more emotion that certain members of the squad. When it came to the climax, it felt really oddly cut and the dialogue used was really out of place/ uneven. Although it lacks the epic scale of the other films, Suicide Squad is not without its charm. Margot Robbie and Will Smith do excellent performances and the way the react with other characters is greatly entertaining. Although much of the film feels uneven in a way, it still entertains. Suicide squad tries very hard to be the 2016 version of Guardians of the Galaxy, but fails miserably. Movie has action and a few decent scenes, but I'd only recommend it if you're bored on a Tuesday night.

But that scene when Harley jumps into a can of acid and Joker jumps to her (I know its metaphorical scene it didn't really happen but still that was lame IMO) . Joker doesn't show up too much in the movie I don't know if that was intended but I felt disappointed with that.Killer Croc mask LOOKS TERRIBLE ,I mean his head looks enormous compared to his body (he should have been more bulked up).The humor is really good in this movie I liked it very much.Overall I would rate this movie 6/10.But beware that REAL PROBLEM of this movie and not only this movie but future movies is WARNER BROTHERS. They should stop interfering with DC Entertainment and let them do their job. They are rushing this too quickly and it doesn't surprise me if the movie gets bashed on (although I really didn't understand THIS BIG bashing). It would have been much more satisfying to just copy the plot of the animated film 'Suicide Squad: Attack on Arkham' and go with that instead of smoke whatever they were smoking to come up with that movies script.

"Suicide Squad" was your chance to redeem yourself from the last critical failures. This movie should have been the one that saved DC and get it back on it's feet, but I guess not. I wanted this to be good or at least surprise me. There are some pros and plenty of cons in this. So lets kick it off.

Will Smith and Viola Davis are easily the best parts of this movie. Smith brings the humility to his character and Davis brings the fear. Will Smith is the only character in this group that has any characterization as we get to know more about his past. Will Smith is basically playing Will Smith, but he was still good as the character. To be honest, I thought Voila Davis was more of a real threat then the actual threat itself.

Margot Robbie was pretty good as Harley Quinn, but wasn't the show stealer as I thought she would be. She did a great job capturing the character and there was little peaks of humility as well. Her accent dose keep changing in a few scenes, but I can easily look pass that.

I was one of those people who was against Jared Leto new look as the Joker. I know he's trying a different take on the character, but with all the stupid tattoo's all over him with the word 'damaged' on his forehead and the gangster grill teeth just wasn't the Joker. But I give Leto this, it's a bold move to take on the character after Ledger's unforgettable performance. I was being a bit too harsh at the time and Leto is a very method actor, so what's there's nothing to complain with the casting (besides the new look). After seeing the movie, Leto doesn't do a bad job as the Joker. He doesn't have that much screen time and every time he's on it screen, he kinda chews up the scenery. He was enjoyable to watch and I will make a full judgment when we have a movie where he has more screen time. Coming to think of it, The Joker should have been the main villain of the movie and not Enchantress (I'll get to her in a minute). Oh and I can't be the only one who thinks he looks like some manic you'll see in a Purge movie.

Cara Delevingne not only gives the worst performance in the movie, but also the most laughable one as well. I mean, what is up with that hip moves and twirling her arms around? It's like the director gave up. Enchantress is right up there with Dr. Doom from "Fant4stic" as the worst villain in comic book movie. Enchantress is the basic villain who wants to shoot a giant blue lazier in the sky to destroy the world. Oh and please stop it with the blue lazier thing, it's in every comic book movie now and it's so stupid.

Here's my question: Why would you sent these crazy and dangerous people on a mission to stop Enchantress. Yeah I really hope that doesn't back fire at all. I mean sure, send a guy who calls himself Captain Boomerang who's an insane person that throws boomerangs that never comes back to him to save us from giant portals from other worlds. Is it because they are expendable? It would have made a lot more sense if Wonder Women or The Flash or just anyone with god like powers to go on this mission. This really is a suicide mission.

The rest of the Squad members were pretty forgettable and just didn't do anything. Katana was just kinda there. Slipknot is in it for a few minutes. Killer Croc just stands around going "mmmm" or "yeah", they didn't do anything with that character.

The third act was this gigantic action scene that takes place in the city and the scene itself was just a mess. It was so muddled together and the editing was so poor that it sadly did remind me of "Fant4stic" climax.

Some of the music choices didn't really fit well during a couple of scenes. It felt out of place and was only thrown at the last minute to make it a little light at heart. This is because of the heavy criticism for "Batman V Superman" for being too dark.

I think DC biggest problem is that they are literally rushing the movies out just to catch up with Marvel. Take your time DC. But of course, many will be angry that I said that and will go to terrifying lengths to defend it. Fan boys seem to choose to deny any flaws from these movies and praise it for it's non-existing efforts. I'm not a DC hater. I'm not a Marvel fan boy. I only want a freaking good movie, is that hard to ask for. Just because it tried something new doesn't always mean it will bring great results. Everyone has an opinion, that's a no-brainier. Agree or disagree, just please don't act like a cry baby when some has a different opinion to you.

Overall rating: "Suicide Squad" was a huge disappointment in a lackluster year for summer movies. The more I think about this, the more I hate it.

But the story of the Joker and Harly Quinn felt out of place and purposeless for the most part. Their introduction was fine, but throughout the rest of the movie you could tell that they weren't exactly sure which role these characters and their romance is going to have. You don't actually get a gripe of who the new Joker really is. And even though they're a love couple, Harley is partly shown unlikely indifferent to him just to fulfill the purpose of the plot.

Although they put a lot of focus onto them in their marketing campaign, it feels more like fan service in the end and leaves you dissatisfied with their actual integration into this movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really wanted this movie to be good. I wanted DC to shut my mouth like Ben Afleck did with me with his acting as Batman. But it didn't happened.
The movie was disappointing, I think many agree with that, but it also has many cringing moments (spoilers ahead):
- The use of Rock-Pop super hits very randomly and one after another trying to be epic. It looked like a YouTube amateur video of "BEST MOMENTS" with user's favorite bands as background music.
- The videoclip scene at the chemical plant (this scene made me really angry, it's useless, stupid, pointless, all mixed with ugly music...)
- The plan to kill/beat Enchantress. The "bomb-under-big-guy's-feet-plan" is so lame. I'm really sorry some SEALS had to die because of this terrible idea.
- Killer Croc. Seriously, he looks terrible. He doesn't look big at all because of his massive head. He doesn't look bad with the hoodie, but shirtless is a complete failure. It feels like they wanted to spend money only in the head make up and run out of funds when they had to sculpt some shoulders or whatever to make him look actually big. They ruined the first appearance of a great character with his pointless lines and crappy looks, congrats.
- The "Gangsta" Joker. Terrible, not because of Jared Leto, even though I'm not even close to be a fan of him at all. But this depiction of the character... won't work well with Affleck's Batman. And that makes me really sad because that means Warner/DC screwed another character only to make this movie more appealing.
- Chemistry between any other character but Will Smith and Margot Robbie. Even the "you're now my family" Diablo final scene feels really fake. You've been ignoring everyone in the team for more than an hour, dude.
- Battles. Really uninspired, Margot Robbie had some battle scenes I really liked, specially when she's in the elevator.

Enough rant.
Warner/DC: You need to be really careful with EVERY SINGLE MOVIE you release if you want your cinematic universe to work properly. Batman V Superman is not perfect but it still works somehow. Suicide Squad is unbearable and I hope you reset most of the background story and characters you presented in it.

WHAT I LIKED:
- Batman. I really love this Batman, suit, attitude... Even as Bruce Wayne.
- Enchantress make-up, looking. Really cool, even though the performance wasn't flawless.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie was not horrible, but no masterpiece. Few moments in the movie really hooked me in. The parts that did hook me in did a good job. I thought act 1 was good. I liked the idea of learning the back stories to some of the major characters. Then from act 1 to the bar scene I found to be boring. The wandering through the city, and going against minions that stood no chance and were easily taken down . I liked the bar scene because of El Diablo's back story. The whole killing of his family made the scene more emotional. The final battle was OK. Wasn't too amazing, wasn't too bad.

I found this movie to be very predictable. Some examples were Amanda Waller not dying, Harley not being shot by Deadshot, the joker to be still alive, enchantress to be the villain, and the squad to win. These are just some examples.

Some pros to the movie were Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Deadshot by Will Smith, the Joker by Jared Leto (many will disagree) and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. The movie looked nice.

Some more cons are unneeded characters (slipknot), scenes that had no real explaining on why they are happening, and the lack of other squad members.

This movie is a hit or miss. Not the best work by DC

But after reviewing it at home, I came to the conclusion that the film was still a success, despite the incompletely revealed potential. And the potential of the project was huge. It was not possible to reach the declared highest bar, but even so, the film is good enough.

Regarding the Joker, Heath Ledger's level was not achieved, but this is not Jared Leto's fault. Here, the Joker does not have a key role, as in The Dark Knight, and enough screen time. There he acted as a very cunning madman, but here he turned out to be just a madman. And in this role, Jared played perfectly.

Special effects, camera work and other components are at a traditionally high level for this kind of films. As a result, despite the fact that the masterpiece did not work out, we have before us a funny, entertaining, sometimes even touching blockbuster that is worth watching.

A clumsy ensemble film that tries to be Deadpool-clever, but fails miserably.

Many acclaim Will Smith's performance as Deadshot. His performance was great - but absolutely not Deadshot. (Someone kills three people with a pistol, Deadshot turns to them and says, "That was gangsta." Lol wut?) Never really done much with Diablo (Jay Hernandez), but he was a pleasant surprise.

Viola Davis was great as Amanda Waller.

Margot Robbie is great as Harley Quinn. Jared Leto was good as the Joker, though he never really gets a chance to shine. The rest of the cast? Who cares. But the one thing the film gets absolutely right is Harley & Joker's relationship. The bad side of this is that the film-makers somehow knew they got this part right, and emphasize Harley's story to the detriment of everything else. Which maybe isn't a bad thing after all, since "everything else" is sub-par. Weak story, poor build-up (an ensemble movie that has to also establish its characters), ordinary stakes (save the world), ordinary villain, confusing direction with an over-reliance on flash-backs, some odd choices for costume design... An average film at best, with some memorable scenes. Harley and Joker need their own film, because they're too big for this one. 5/10

I was wondering when my fatigue with Superhero films would finally subsume my curiousity to watch any "new" films and, credit to Suicide Squad, I'm finally there.

I figured an appropriate celebration of my complete and utter apathy for anything with "superhero" in the description, culminating in an outright boycott of any future films, would be to look at the example to "rule them all." -- Suicide Squad.

First of all, I read books and not comics, so yes, I'm one of them. I hold no real nostalgia or interest in lycra-clad adults with "powers", alternate timelines, or comic lore as described by those who invest waaaaaaaaaaaayyyy too much in defending the culture with deaf ears. I have seen the majority of what has released so far, including the best example of adaptation for us non-comicoes, piloted by Christopher Nolan. Since then, I have glossed over the various iterations from popular PG to unknown R, taking away nothing from the menagerie, except how many smaller budgeted films could have succeeded or failed in place of them. No money was spent.

Suicide Squad is a mess--an uninteresting, unfunny, unfocused mess. The stench of studio interference hangs heavy here, potentially supported by late game re-shoots (not uncommon) and varying articles after the fact. Who cares--as the consumer of your entertainment, I am more interested in the finished product than the behind the scenes drama that signals another Hindenburg. When interest in the drama offscreen supersedes onscreen, then you've lost.

We've all lost, in fact: money, time and interest. None of this will affect box office as nostalgia, curiosity, and fresh-faced comic fans with underdeveloped film skills are in near constant supply. Opening weekends will continue to mis-align with critical reception--the world keeps on turning.

I could go into detail on this film but, really, why? There isn't any.

If your a comic book fan then you're already shaking your head and formulating an apologists view (couldn't care less about Marvel vs DC), and if your not, then you likely don't care whether it's good or not #margotrobbiehungrybum. Either way, it's just another portal opening, world ending, good vs evil in spandex tale, liberally smeared in cgi. No thanks, not any more.

Another portal opening, world ending, fan servicing, superhero film, forced into the same mold as the others.

The Okey-ish
- Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn
- Will Smith as himself
- Jai as Captain Boomerang
- the final battle
- 2-3 jokes
- Chemistry between characters

The Bad
- Whole movie is basically one long action sequence in the same environment.
- Villains only feel and act like villains in the beginning.
- Characters motives for doing "the good thing"
- Other superheroes whereabouts is not explained
- Jared Leto's Joker feels like two guys. Sometimes he is Joker, sometimes he is a thug.
- Villains plot is a pretty generic evil plot.
- Instead of flashing out different abilities of the squad members like in Avengers, they are basically just punching/shooting generic bad guys

Although it's light tone conflicts with the violence in the latter-half of the film, the Sorceress is a crap antagonist and there was no backstory for Croc, Katana and Sorceress's brother, Harley pulled them all through in the end.
A welcome departure from the other brooding DCEU movies.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all would like to inform u all that im a DC fanboy not a marvel peasant.
Where did this movie go the wrong way? Too many things were terrible but lets start with the plot. The plot was terrible, long story short "there is a group of bad people, one of them becomes super bad and makes another super bad person, other bad people must stop the super bad people".
When i first saw the cast i didnt have hope for Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and guess what? I was right she didn't feel like Harley at all, she was just Jokers personal toy. I actually had hopes for Jared Leto's Joker. But from the first moment of his appearance i hated him, i expected a newer, cooler, better, polished Joker but just got an excuse from DC.
Jay Hernandez(El Diablo)'s acting was terrible
I didnt have any hope for Jai Courtney but he was actually the best thing in the movie, he really did get into his role of captain boomerang, the thick Australian accent was on point.
Suicide Squad has a strong basis, it has a respected comic and a respected animation both of which are a great.
Joker had lots of different things than the original joker. He wasnt wearing purple. Instead he was wearing some yellow glitter **** or purple glitter **** which made him look even worse he had dumb tattoos, was a dumb character in the movie, if he had more screen time i would have probably killed myself. Everytime Katana said something i felt like my brain cells were commiting suicide. The next terrible thing was the relationship between Joker and Harley. In this movie we saw them both madly deep in love with each other. THE Joker doesn't love Harley, he abuses and tortures her. Harley knows it all but she just loves him(extreme Stockholm Syndrome).
If you're gonna defend this movie saying "this is something new this is something thats better" as a geek i'd like to say "read the comics or watch the animations about batman"(not necessarily the suicide squad) then you would know how bad this movie was.
At least the soundtrack and CGI was good(as expected from Zack Snyder)

A Beautiful Monster:

This movie is a perfect metaphor for its own characters. Just like the villains in this movie, who are badly treated and judged by their bad behavior, but who want to be redeem by its merits.

Badly treated and slapped together as a music video straight out of MTV the first half of the story starts up so fast its hard to keep on track of what is happening. The movie is trying to keep pase with the music and falls flat on its head. Its hard to make out if Ayer wanted to make this movie as crazy and schizophrenic as some of its characters or if it was really an accident or someone else's fault (the studio who, by trying to fix this, just made it worse).

The only reason this movie is not a complete waist is thanks to Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jay Hernandez who all deliver solid performances and make all the wild goose chase worthwhile.

It's a shame that the Jokers scenes are so short, it would have been better just to cut him out of the movie. Jared Leto is left with such a bland apperance that it really doesn't do justice to his talents or the other solid performances that Ledger and Nicholson did with this character.

Even with all its flaws Suicide Squad manages to entertain. There are is a lot of eye candy for all the DC fans and some key jokes that really hit the spot just right, witch makes me wonder if there is a really good movie buried here and if maybe a Directos's Cut (a la Batman v Superman) will ever clear the air. One thing is for sure, It's no Deadpool.

Suicide Squad is a fairly entertaining movie, but I understand the critics after I watched the movie.

The beginning part is the highlight of the movie, with colorful and different theme of music introducing the characters to us. It felt impatient of the movie rather than give us time to see how the characters develop. The actors are doing as best as they can, Maggie and Will definitely stand out from the others.

Other than that there are lots of things didn't deliver the hype. The editing and pacing from the second half are so messy, with flashbacks and cutbacks inserting to distract the audience from the main plot. It almost felt like a MTV movie with colors and music pop in at the wrong time. The tone of of the movie which was colorful and funny after the re-shoot, ironically, works against them in my opinion, as it seems odd and strange to appear in the darker universe of DC such as Dawn of Justice.

I'm sure a lot of his scenes were cut or remove due to some reasons, but Jared Leto's performance is the biggest let down this year due to the poor editing. I failed to see the Jokers's charming personalities and how he becomes the Joker and woo Harley Quinn, it's just very unconvincing for him to be the Joker and how the relationship was developed. His character, is as same as the movie, fells forced down our throats. It has the same flaws as Dawn of Justice but worst due to multiple characters and storyline.

Characters like Boomerang are interesting, but I doubt DC will ever put them in any future projects, as they are so underdeveloped in this film that nobody cares about them, except Harley Quinn, Deadshot and Joker only because the popularity.

Overall, a great film if you want to hop on the hype of the comics, but fairly disappointing movie if you expect it to launch the DC Universe and follow the footsteps of Man of Steel and Dawn of Justice. DC sadly failed to catch up it's rival company Marvel this year.

Because of the cast, the storyline wasn't much of something I was particularly searching for to understand the film, though the backstory of each character should've been highlighted fairly well.

None of the above was reached. Action scenes weren't jaw dropping and diablo wasn't eventful at all despite the remarks after he had flamed all the faceless zombies in the building mid-way through the movie. The provoking from Deadshot towards Diablo to get angry was a bit useless and would've rather been a better surprise without the smacks on the head.

Throughout the film, I oftentimes repeated, "Man this is lazy". I wouldn't suggest this movie to anyone. Also, why did Enchantress have to kiss everyone in order to turn them evil (part fo her army)? Maybe something I've missed from the comics? Won't be watching this at all again. Was a great build up and almost left work early to check it out. Glad I didn't.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

One of the worst disappointments of 2016 with one of the most misleanding Marketings. DC continues with his bad streak in this "New universe" where all that they know it's doing wrong. The characters are very bad introduced and it can't understand the attitude of some of them (Killer Croc, for example).

Leto does a good acting, but his character "Joker" it's barely what he needs to be, a clown. In all the scenes, this criminal with awful clothes shows up, instead of cause fear, causes discomfort on the spectator, you can't keep his presence on the screen without asking "¿Why did he did that?" or "¿He will do something that have a relation with the principal story and not filling?".

DC basically creates a movie for those who already know the characters and their stories and, beacuse of that, they have the luxury to make a horrible movie. This movie isn't funny and isn't exciting, it's awfull. I know that is not a "award winning movie", but the movie had a lot of potencial and they spoiled. The power of a bad script, is that you can spot easily all the movie defects (like the dreadful acting of Cara DeLevigne).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After seeing Suicide Squad this past weekend, I was left disgruntled by the awful choices Warner Brother Studios has made this year with their expansion of the DCEU. Though they handled some things well, like the casting of Will Smith as Deadshot and Margot Robbie as Harley, director David Ayer and accomplices at WB studios failed to make a completely coherent film yet again. I'll start with the negative first and there is a lot of it, reader beware.

My biggest issue with the film was its tonal inconsistencies, in one moment you’re in a gritty side street being ambushed by Batman, and in the next you’re watching a quirky montage of our anti-heroes suiting up for battle to Eminem's “Without me” - what's worse is that this type of scene/cuts happen consistently throughout the film and it just takes you out of the moment.

My second issue with the film is what I call the “Army Aspect”. The villain gathers an army to distract the protagonists of the film, while he/she does something evil and maleficent behind the scenes. My problem is that we’ve seen it done already! Not once, but twice with both Avengers films. How many more times must we watch a group of “heroes” fight an army of foreign species? Whats even worse is when they finally defeat the “Army” and confront the main villain of the movie - Enchantress - she is just standing there babbling nonsense and doing weird twitching movements. Frankly she looks like she is about to have a very serious stroke. They then proceed to have this long drawn out fight sequence, which ends up being useless because she just decides to disarm them, it's really jarring to actually watch happen. The movie is a mess in a lot of places.

The movie seems to have been severely tampered with the studio because there are just some disgusting and rudimentary cuts throughout the film. There are scenes that were obviously docked from the film, parts that would have more than likely made the film better a la Batman V. Superman: Ultimate Edition. For the life of me, I cannot understand what goes on over at Warner Brother Studios that makes them want to produce garbage film when they have the resources to make them complete and coherent. I wait anxiously for Wonder Woman, hoping that WB studios have learnt from their last two flops.

Though I made the movie seem like a steaming bag of dump, it wasn't all bad. There were small glimmers of hope, specifically with Jared Leto’s portrayal of The Joker. Though he is no Heath Ledger, who is arguably the best Joker, Leto’s portrayal was unique and fresh. I personally did not like the fact that he was a gang banger mob boss type, but I feel as though if it was expanded upon and explained in some detail it might be an easier pill to swallow. I also feel like Margot Robbie gave a great performance as Harley Quinn even though her character wasn’t written particularly well. Her on screen chemistry with Jared Leto was also great. Will Smith, as well as the writers, did an excellent job with Deadshot giving him character depth and making him relatable. My last qualm with the film is lack of character explanation for Killer Croc and Captain Boomerang, they just felt divisive and shoe horned into the movie.

The movie could be better, a lot better and a huge piece of me wants the DCEU movies to be great. I hope that directors and Warner Bros Studio learns from their past DCEU filmography and drastically improves it. I wait anxiously for Wonder Woman later next year as well as the proposed Ben Affleck directed Batman movie.

Suicide Squad: Proof you CAN polish a turd.

At its core a complete an utter piece of **** but like all healthy dog **** rolled in glitter I couldn't stop staring at the shiny bits.

I thought Will Smith was great as "Big Bad Willy" (what "Slim shady" is to Eminem if you will) but that isn't hard when you have the most developed character. Underdeveloped characters, a main theme throughout the film, completely wrecks the pace and fluidity of the movie.

Margot Robbie tries her best as Harley Quinn and while I would like to see her play the nut case again, she did not belong in this cinematic. Personally I would be far more interested in "Joker & Harley" only, for the big screen. (Side note: I will definitely be wanking to Harley Quinn porn tonight)

Croc only exists when other character's mention him, I mean seriously he had less frames than Mark Convey's PC. Boomerang, while I quite liked the character I would not have missed him if he died in a helicopter crash, which by the way; I have not seen so many people survive since an episode of the A-Team.

Now Moving on to El Diablo, or Pyro as I like to call him - because apparently speaking in a Mexican accent when you're white is "racist" - is by far my favourite character. He has the best power and the most harrowing back story that simply cannot be told in the DC Movie franchise. That's why I have taken the liberty of setting up a petition to get him his own Netflix series!

Link to petition here: https://www.change.org/p/netflix-el-diablo-pyro-must-get-a-netflix-tv-series?recruiter=590407343&utm_source=share_for_starters&utm_medium=copyLink

The Joker, Meh. Was he even in this movie? Not enough footage to judge Jared Leto on whether he's a good joker but certainly enough to see he doesn't hold a smirk to Heath Ledger let alone a smile.

I haven't read the graphic novel so I'm taking artistic license with this next sentence but The Witch should been fighting, at worst: Superman, at best: The ghostbusters (classic of course).

Overall: a romp that started off enjoyable but by the end, bored, I found myself drifting off into a world where Margot Robbie was **** on my chest while "Big Bad Willy" sang Miami as encouragement.

A middling 4/7.

PS: Warner Bros keep your **** nose out of the franchise, you ****

"Suicide Squad" does very little to add to this new universe, but rather feels like a filler movie as we wait for the Justice League movie. It does get a few things right, but not enough to save this lackluster film.

Performances in this movie overall are pretty damn good. The three standouts are undoubtedly Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, and Jared Leto as the Joker. Margot Robbie does more than just eye candy here, bringing real emotion to the character of Harley. Will Smith also does more than just play himself here. He's the most relatable character in the movie, and the one you'll probably be cheering for the entire film. Jared Leto as the Joker may have been questionable to some, but what he brings to the character is undeniably entertaining. While he isn't utilized much, he makes you want more of him in future DC movies.

The soundtrack is also one of the best of the year. The closest I can compare it to would be that of "Guardians of the Galaxy", containing mostly classic rock songs that will surely be stuck in your head when you leave the movie.

Where the movie starts to fall apart is...well, everything else. The main plot of the film, aside from bringing super villains together to work for the government, is cliché is boring. You've seen this plot a million times before, and "Suicide Squad" does nothing to change it up or bring anything fresh to the formula. Everything pretty much happens the way you think it'll happen and theres no surprises in the whole film.

Dialogue is spotty. When the villains are interacting with each other in small talk, it can be pretty entertaining. But should anyone have anything to say to the soldiers working with them or the main villain of the film, it all goes to hell. It's cliché and full of exposition, to say the least.

Fight sequences aren't necessarily bad, but nothing really memorable either. Usually in super hero films (or really action films in general), there is at least one or two fight scenes that stand out in your head and make you think how awesome the protagonist(s) is. But in this film, I honestly can't say that theres a single fight that stands out to me. They're all pretty bland and basic in almost every way.

I'm sure that mega fans of the comics will love this film, and more power to you if you do. But for me, this film as too many problems to overlook. While it has some solid performances and a kickass soundtrack, everything else in this film falls apart. Warner Bros. has some serious thinking to do about what they're gonna do next in their universe, because so far it's not fairing too well.

Suicide Squad was hyped to a god-like status. Merchandise was everywhere and it was talked about constantly on social media.

So when the film didn't live up to its god-like status, people were pissed.

Now, this film has some noticeable and blatantly obvious flaws but it really isn't as bad as the fans and critics are saying. It's a very fun and incredibly entertaining summer blockbuster and defiantly worth you time. If you see it as anymore than this, then you won't enjoy it. It's only meant to be fun.

The best part of the film is defiantly the performances of Margot Robbie and Jared Leto. There flashback scenes together were fantastic, truly awesome. Leto brings a fresh and new portrayal of The Joker that isn't too similar to either Ledger or Nicholson, which is nice to see. Unfortunately, the Joker is barley in the film and the small bits he is in are fantastic. Harley Quinn was also unpredictable and very funny. I just wish that we had got a Joker/Harley Quinn film instead of a Suicide Squad film.

The other members of the cast were all good- Jai Courtney has finally done a film that didn't completely suck ass, and he does a great job at portraying his character. Deadshot, played by Will Smith is also good but it's just Will Smith playing Will Smith while in fancy dress. But that works great for Will Smith so who cares. I honestly think that he shouldn't have had the spotlight that he gets because Harley Quinn and The Joker were so much better characters.

Other than Deadshot and Harley Quinn, the other characters seriously lacked development. Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) had no development and was only really there for the laughs. Katana, Killer Croc and Pyro were all three underdeveloped and underused, but I suppose that a film with so many characters has to leave some a bit less developed for the sake of its runtime.

Nevertheless, the team have great charisma together, which is a job well done on the directors part.

The soundtrack is great, but at times the music doesn't quite suit the tone of the scene and the soundtrack often jumps around from song to song rather erratically.

The editing was rather awful, which is a recurring theme in DC films. It comes across like a lot is missing and the stuff that is missing should be there, and the film suffers because of this.

The film had some petty good special effects and was visually nice at times but the cinematography was a bit dark and dingy and the villain at the end looked kinda terrible. The action scenes were nicely choreographed and well directed. There were also a few cool Batman Cameos, one was particularly good with Deadshot and it really helped the Batman character feel like the Batman we all know and love, not the man from BvS.

The villain was the Enchantress who lacked development and was kind of awful. Because she's a witch, it seems stupid that someone as powerful would be going against some people with guns.

Which leads me onto my main problem with the film:
The plot was too big for the team. The Suicide Squad should be taking on the mafia or a drug lord- not an all powerful supernatural force!! This left me saying the dreaded 'As if' a lot, which totally withdrew you from the film.

If the plot was on a smaller scale, the villain were stronger and the music and film editing was a lot better, than Suicide Squad could have lived up to the god-like hype. However, you will enjoy it as a popcorn filck and it's a small step up from BvS and in the right direction.
