It does a successful job of introducing the characters and contains many laughs. When the actual plot of the movie is revealed, the movie completely falls apart. We don't even get the name of a villain, and Jared Leto has quickly set himself up as the worst Joker of all time. Will Smith is wholly unbelievable as the world's most dangerous assassin, as he's just playing Will Smith. The film also concentrates way too much on Harley Quinn, who is supposed to be a tragic character, but is portrayed as eye-candy with way too many forced lines of dialog. Expand

The Joker falls in love ?!
And then there are the obligatory "evil" guys ( and gal ) who threaten to take over the world.

But the main characters of suicide squadSuicide squad from a technical standpoint is completely garbage, choppy horrible editing, crappy random soundtrack, unclear confusing plot, garbage villain with horrible cgi, and lackluster ending. But the main characters of suicide squad actually make this complete mess of a movie somewhat entertaining. Harley Quinn was perfect, deadshot joker and boomerang are great, croc katana and Diablo are good.

So to put it simply suicide squad is a garbage movie that can still entertain.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Suicide squad is the latest movie in the DCEU which at this point has had 3 movies to its name: Man Of Steel, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. Now out of all of them I have seen 2 of them, Man of Steel and this and while I think Man Of Steel isn't the best, I still enjoyed the film but this review isn't on Man of Steel it's about Suicide Squad, So I'll get into what I liked and disliked about the film

What I liked:
+The Acting was actually pretty good, the girl who played Deadshot's daughter wasn't the best but child actors never really are in movies like these but as for the main cast, they did a pretty good job at doing their characters based on what material they were given
+ The second half of the movie fairs better than the first half which is more dedicated to the origins of these characters which it takes way too long to do but the second half while it does have some useless sections, The second half is alot these jumbled than the first and makes alot more sense (I'll get into that in the other half)
+ Most of the action scenes are cool and fun, There's a bit with Deadshot near the beginning of the movie where he is given a gun to show off his skills which is set to Kanye West's song "Black Skinhead" that's really fun and alot of the other scenes are fun too
+Near the end of the movie there is a scene in a bar where the characters are just given time to talk and it's easily the best scene in the film, I wish the film had more of this as it gave the characters time to flesh out their personality

What I thought was Meh
The comedy was very hit and miss for me, Some of the Jokes were quite funny (The bar scene mentioned earlier had some good ones) but some of them were just god awful. When Rick Flag uses his phone to blow up SlipKnot, Harley Quinn literally says "Now, that's a killer app". It's as cringy as it sounds
Soundtrack was good but it just felt like they shoved all the songs in at the beginning and some of them just don't work with their scenes

What I disliked
-The first half of the film specifically was a mess. Amanda Waller pitches the idea of a team twice in 2 separate scenes which is preceded by 2 scenes kind of introducing Harley Quinn and Deadshot but then Introduces them again in the next scene aswell as introducing some of the other members of the team (But not all of them) and then introduces most of them again in the next scene when they're walking through the prison again (Deadshot gets like 2 scenes which explain he's good with guns and like 20 explanations about it) and we get told multiple times about how The Enchantress is 2 people through many different scenes and when all the characters are introduced it cuts to scenes that seem to be flashbacks but were obviously going to be the original prologue telling us how they became who they are

-Like I said earlier the 2nd half is better but it still has it's moments. There's a point where Harley looks down a staircase and we get a scene of Joker and Harley when Harley falls into an ace chemicals thing that adds barely anything to the film. Right before the bar scene we get the 'Revelation' that Enchantress is evil even though we the audience already knew this which would be fine if it didn't flashback to a scene explaining it even though we already saw most of it earlier in the film except earlier they just cut out the middle of the scene and added a Joker scene which again had no point

-Joker had barely any point of being in the movie, it would of been better if they properly gave Harley her original origin and that's not even mentioning how this Joker is kind of boring

-The Pink Unicorn Fetish joke that Captain Boomerang had was obviously taken from Deadpool

-This is more the Harley, Deadshot and El Diablo show more than anything. Katana, Killer Croc had barely anything useful to do and it feels like they were just shoved in there. Captain Boomerang is better but he doesn't really get much to do even, He kills like 2 people the entire movie and uses one of his boomerangs as like a camera drone and that's pretty much it

All in all Suicide Squad wasn't the best movie I have ever seen, but if they release a cut of the movie without the obvious studio interference (I've heard the film was edited by a trailerhouse) I'd gladly watch it again and probably enjoy it more. 6/10

I actually liked the first half and the performances of will Smith and Margott Robbie. But then again there were so many problems with this movie. The most obvious: They did not know what kind of movie they wanted to do. Should it be more light-hearted, dark or dramatic? The music supports this. The first half was carried by a great soundtrack and painted a dynamic picture, the second half was dragged down by overly dramatic superhero pathos. The plot felt forced. The action was way to gun-focused. Go and watch the Nolan-Batman movies again. Expand

Will Smith was also, surprisingly, very good as Deadshot! Jared Leto, unfortunately, was not good as the Joker. He was too weird, and yes, I know the Joker is weird. He just felt like the wrong type of weird. He also cared WAY too much! The Joker is supposed to be the prime example of an abusive boyfriend to Harley and has no problem with Harley getting hurt or even dying. In "Suicide Squad" he felt very romanticised. Also, the conflict that the squad was supposed to combat was too large of a force, bringing into question why the established superheroes aren't intervening. That's how big the problem was. Simply the Suicide Squad is supposed to save the world, which makes you wonder, "Why isn't Batman or the Flash running across this? Did they take the night off?" And the rest of the members of the Suicide Squad: Killer Croc, El Diablo, Capt Boomerang, and Katana had basically no development. All the focus was on Harley and Deadshot. All in all: very fun, great performances (excluding Leto), poor writing and story. Definitely recommend if you like superhero/action movies. Expand

Not only that, but I was actually one of the nut jobs standing out in the rain at midnight, waiting to see it the night it came out, and I can honestly say I am disappointed. First of all, how do you make a film like this and not go all out for the R rating? Second, isn't there something wrong with a Joker who is more sexy than he is funny?

Let's get into the film. Following the events of Dawn of Justice, the government is afraid that with the death of Superman, should another meta-human come to earth, they won't be prepared to stop them, so they turned to the most skilled and deadly people they can find, the worst of the criminal element. The film starts with a rushed introduction to the characters, which is focuses on Deadshot (Will Smith). So there he is, the Fresh Prince at age 48, with the same persona he had in Independence Day, twenty years ago, telling the same type of jokes that were old then, after 8 years in Bel-Arie, and they are basically per-historic now!

After basic training and more jokes aimed at thirteen year olds, they are dropped into the city and dredge on to their main object. Exactly like Katniss Everdeen in Mockingjay Pt. 2, except at least then there were some decent special effects and they weren't fighting big globs of **** The story here is so basic that it's laughable, the make-up was better than the special effects, and the humor that was supposed to make this movie a classic just isn't there. That's the bad, what about the good?

Jared Leto is still the perfect choice to play the Joker, unfortunately he doesn't get enough screen time, and he's not funny, if they ever let him off the leash in future DC films, I'd image he'd give a performance that would rival that of Heath Ledgers. Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn is the breakout star of the film, and really the only one worth watching in this mess of madness, as she was genuinely entertaining, and may actually be able to use this film as a launching point for a very promising future. I also loved seeing Joel Kinnaman of the Killing, finally get some of the attention he deserves, as he's always great and deserves a lot better than Robocop.

The bottom line is that the Suicide Squad should have put DC right up there with Marvel, but it falls flat on it's face. There is no story, no character development, nothing that says we're catching up. While Suicide Squad is pulling in big numbers at the box office, if DC continues to disappoint us, the way they have with their last two blockbusters, that's not going to last either. It's time to take the gloves off and give the fans what they want, because this certainly wasn't it.

The weirdest part about this group is how unevenly matched their powers are: one can shoot torrents of fire from his hands, while another just has a bat and an sweet/mean attitude (Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, who steals the movie). As her bf, Jared Leto's much-anticipated Joker doesn't live up. The squad enters into several ho-hum encounters, but the hoped-for malevolent edge to the characters and the dialogue is sadly soft. The whole thing rambles as the writer strives to add meaningful backstories for depth and drama. Potential for another breakthru flick like "Deadpool" is sadly absent. When I first read some of the reviews, I honestly could not wait to see it, just so I could defiantly disagree with the critics. However, 30 minutes into this abomination, I found myself agreeing with the reviewers more and more. The story is a mess, the antagonist is underwhelming, the stakes are not high enough, and the Joker has criminally little screen time. I mean, the Joker has so little screen time that I felt like I did not have a large enough sample size to gauge him against past portrayals of the character.

Another thing that bugged me about this film was the director. I like David Ayer, but if you have seen any of his other films (especially End of Watch and/or Fury), you'll notice that he excels in showing brutal realism. The comics books upon which Suicide Squad is based are graphically over-the-top...they are [deliberately] far from realistic. In other words, hiring Ayer to direct SS is like hiring the late, great Johnny Cash to write a rap song--there is a good chance that things are not going to work out well.

There were really two good things about this movie: Deadshot and Harley Quinn.

Also, BATMAN!!! Bumped my score from 3 to 5 because of BATMAN!!!

Sadly, this is the case with this film. I really wanted to like this film, but the the story and its organization felt heavily disjointed and the humor was lacking and I never really found myself smiling or having too much fun with the film. The actors all did a fine job with what they were given, with Will Smith and Margot Robbie being my two favorite standouts. However, the rest felt heavily cliched and Cara Delevingne's antagonist was especially cliche and cheesy. And like I said before, the middle act really brought much of the action and story to an abrupt stop and became way too dialogue-focused to the point where it was making me doze off multiple times. And in all honesty, it felt like the film was trying really hard to be a Guardians of the Galaxy wannabe with the spunky and eccentric characters, as well as its classic soundtrack. Sadly, it just didn't work for this film the way it did for Guardians. Overall, despite how exciting the film appeared, as well as its great potential, it fell rather short in all areas unfortunately. I'm beginning to lose more and more faith with each passing DC film, as this one certainly didn't help. Expand

This is the third film in the DCEU, and instead of focusing on their A-List characters like Batman or Superman, this time, they decide to bring us something different and introducing us to a group of misfits and troublemakers that we know as the "Suicide Squad". The movie is about a government official named Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) who plans to assemble some of the most dangerous criminals around for a mission since the tragic death of Superman which can be seen in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' (2016). The people she has in mind include; Floyd Lawton aka "Deadshot" (Will Smith) who pretty much kills for a living, and is very good with his aim. Then there's Harleen Quinzel aka "Harley Quinn" (Margot Robbie) who has had some personal times with another deranged lunatic that is the iconic Joker (an underused Jared Leto). They even bring in; Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney who is not terrible for once), Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and even June Moone (Cara Delevingne).

The Squad are left to be taking orders from Co. Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) who has some history with June's character. He tries to keep this team of misfits focused and keeping on track with the task, but obviously their behavior can range from ignoring to down right crazy and not following the rules whatsoever. However, it is said that if they disobey, then Col. Rick Flag will make sure that they will not make it out alive. So they have to stick to the rules, which is something they might find hard to do.

Director David Ayer ('End of Watch' and 'Fury') does a capable job of handling all these different characters and sometimes rather unusual or unfamiliar ones to those who don't know that much about the DC comics. The actors in this movie all do amazing in their roles as they do absorb their characters rather well...for Jared Leto as The Joker, almost too well, if you've heard about his off-screen behavior and some of the rather unusual and scary things he has been doing.

The problems that this movie had was the fact that the main characters who we're supposed to root for, seem almost one-dimensional at times...apart from Smith's character, Deadshot, as we learn he has a daughter that he so desperately wants to see. The others just seem to join, but with someone like Captain Boomerang, for example, we don't seem to learn that much about him, but we know he can do some pretty neat things with his set of skills.

The villain in this movie is also a weak spot...I will not spoil who it is, but when you see this villain, it almost feels cheap and rather generic.

Cara Delevingne was also one of the weak spots of the movie, you know she plays the Enchantress, and her voice sounds almost like that time when Angelina Jolie played Maleficent in the tedious film that was 'Maleficent' (2014). She had the look and style for the character, but her emotional depth felt forced and unconvincing.

This movie tries to be a bit more like 'Deadpool' (2016) with its strange, sympathetic character(s), choice of music and outright breaking the rules just to get the mission done quickly. But, we all know that 'Deadpool' was a better made movie and did feel more fun and seamless than this did. This film was fine for the first hour, but it quickly transitioned into generic superhero spectacle.

What I did like however, was the romance between the characters Harley Quinn and the Joker, their chemistry worked well that I think it's almost on par with the romance in 'Deadpool' (2016). That's where I felt more emotionally involved, it's just this movie didn't take all the time to focus on that enough.

The DCEU seriously needs to start going back to the drawing board, three average movies in, and my excitement for the 'Justice League' in the next year is beginning to deteriorate.

I'd also like to thank the amazingly untalented Cara eyebrows Delevingne for a terrible performance and zero chemistry with any of the other characters. Also squished into the movie you have a bunch of other psychotic villains that I'd rather not waste anymore time on. Let's face it the only reason anyone wants to see Suicide Squad is for Jared Leto as the Joker, following Heath Ledger is no easy task but he does manage to take on the Joker brilliantly. Just a pity he's underused. Between him and Margot Robbie they're clearly the only two having any fun and the reason this movie is getting two stars. Recommended purely for The Joker and Harley. I might not agree with the fact that roughly 70 % of the audience seems to like this messy film (Rottentomatoes) – but it’s at least not a flop.

Suicide Squad – the film most of us couldn’t wait to see. The trailers looked awesome, crazy, highly inventive and just wow! But what did we get? A strong “meh”. About half of the first act (if not more…) is spent on character introductions. Just the structure and editing alone are very choppy. The story didn’t give anything impressive to the screen, most of the time. Sure, I must admit that I couldn’t wait to see all these characters in action, but even then it wasn’t enough. Yes some impressive action-pieces is on place, but they’re mostly uninventive. The pacing neither made it greater – there are serious issues when going from pure action, to slow dialog. Still; I admire the courage to have so many characters in one film – and they try to establish some depth to the main characters. I mostly enjoyed all of them – but there isn’t that much depth to any of them. They’re all right on the surface, but not more. Add a cliché-ish villain, an overly filled third act with expositions, & an unnecessary subplot that changed the focus away from the main story. Well what a “meh”. It even felt like the film didn’t want to achieve its goal – in this case; to save the world. But let’s take away the criticism for a minute. Will Smith is a gigantic plus, and the chemistry between most of the characters is natural and they’re really likable! Really! The humor though – isn’t that impressive. They tried, but never got my interest. ‘Suicide Squad’ is from my point of view a letdown – but it’s still not horrible. The plot had some fragments of fun, and I really enjoyed the crazy individuals! But I hope DC will improve!

I came to the conclusion that this movie feels like the collision of two different films - a "Dirty Dozen"-type Suicide Squad film, and a Harley Quinn origin story - haphazardly edited together. Consequently, neither story got quite enough screentime to feel complete, the intercut flashback sequences interrupt the flow of the film, and some of the characters get short shrift.

The film does a few things very well (Enchantress is spooky as hell, Harley is crazy a.f., and some of the effects for various powers are pretty cool, f'rinstance), and it was fun to watch despite the problems. 6.5/10

The cast is likable and I really enjoyed Robbie as Harley Quinn; and I may be in the minority here, but I really, really liked Delevingne as Enchantress!!! What I didn't like was the music in the first hour was so over-powering. It became too much of a distraction even eclipsing some of the dialogue. And like I said, the choppiness of the movie becomes equally annoying. It goes back and forth from present to flashbacks as well as flashing descriptions of characters that go by so quickly, you don't have a chance to read them all. It's because of these faults I can't give the movie a 7.

Still with all its faults, there's enough action to satisfy, and Leto as the Joker is very entertaining. He may not have a lot of screen time but he has enough screen time to make the character work. Leto and Robbie have great chemistry together. It may not be a great movie but it's still worth watching!

There are possibly too many characters and it then becomes unnecessary. There are also numerous scenes which willing suspension of disbelief took place but I know this is an adaption of comics, it needs to be more interesting and needed some work on. For example (SPOILER) : Superman died in the very beginning and his funeral was taking place. Captain Boomerang robbed every single bank in Australia with a what? Harley used her baseball bat to combat like 99% of the time. The pacing is terrible and one of the things will get you crazy while watching. Another lesson to be learned for WB. Expand

Went in expecting Gold and left having seen something not even close to Bronze. The movie starts off with a bang, bringing us the excitement that the trailers would have us believe, but then after only 1/3 of the way through it turns bland, boring, predictable and just a mess, kind of like Batman v Superman only swapping the end with the start.

Full marks go to Margot Robbie and Will Smith for putting in great performances as Harley Quinn and Deadshot. All in vain though. The film failed those two. Everyone else felt like an extra. There wasn't even enough of the Joker to even have an opinion on him. Biggest letdown of the year so far.

The movie didn't seem substantial at all. The whole plot of the movie seemed like it was rushed and thrown together. It just wanted to hit the parts it had to, but do nothing more. There were funny quips and jokes, the acting was above average, but the direction and writing was unpolished. If you want to see your favorite characters on the big-screen, you'll get them. All the actors seemed to have nailed all their characters. But if you want to see them do more substantial things and actually be developed. Don't get your hopes up. Harley Quinn was the only interesting character that had some background and arc. Expand

As atuações do Will Smith, Margot Robbie e Cara Delevingne me agradaram, despertando ligação com Pistoleiro, Arlequina e Magia, seus respectivos personagens.

The trailers were great! The posters were Cool! I was excited for the reviews. The reviews came out and they were not that positive. But, I still had hope. I entered the theatre ready to be pleasantly surprised. I was hoping that it would be DC's equivalent of Guardians of the Galaxy. The movie began and the editing was a mess. There were some fleshed out backstories and some that were rushed. Slipknot didn't even have a backstory! I know he dies early but he still deserved a backstory. Then we saw Joker. Jared Leto is a method actor so he should have been able to bring so much to the table. Sadly, the studio misused Jared Leto. Harley Quinn held the movie together with her spunk and personality. Unfortunately, The Enchantress was horrible and completely ruined the movie for me. Overall, Suicide Squad was a trainwreck

This film is far from perfect and has many flaws such as a slow beginning, imbalanced tones, and sense of character use but this is a simple to understand with all character's motives understandable. The main baddies and the actors that played them each got a time to shine with the main spotlight on Harley Quinn and Deadshot with a great cameo by Joker who doesn't get enough screen time. My favorite character was Captain Boomerang who the actor just seemed to have fun with playing a murderous, drunken, brony thief and every time he was on screen it was a delight. Katana felt a little underused and perhaps didn't really need a backstory. Diablo felt underserved at first then he went to help show his true colors and shined. The villains of the movie were actually somewhat interesting bringing the classic villain who wants to rule the world to the stage. Ultimately, Suicide Squad is an imbalanced film that isn't perfect and no Deadpool, Marvel Avengers, or Guardians of the Galaxy but it isn't a Batman V Superman, Man of Steel, or X Men Apocalypse. I would recommend you go into this movie with an open mind and heart Expand

Joker had pretty much nothing to do with the movie, he shouldnt even be there, maybe in a pos credit scene.

This is the third movie on the DC film. All three of them, had some alien trying to destroy/take over the world. Two of them had a thunder coming out of the sky wrecking everything. I mean, arent we done with that? I was expecting a urban/gangster movie, something Tarantinoish, and not another -alien destroyed the world kind of movie-

Those trailers were AMAZING, but the movie it self wasnt good.

The cast saved the movie. Smith, Robbie an Davis were perfect for their roles. Leto could have a better role, but the script, which was pretty bad, didnt allow him to shine. And i hear the editing cut some of his parts.

It is better than Batman v Superman, but still has a lot to work on.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Had a chance to be really good, it had a lot of good talent. Main problem for me was the villain, the Enchantress. The plot is there is super powerful witch getting ready to destroy the planet, so let's send in a guy with a gun, a girl with a bat, a crocodile man, a guy who can control fire, and some others to take her down. If you can get past this point of the movie I think you will walk away pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed Will Smith as dead shot and there are some really good action scenes in the movie. Not sure what to think about the Joker, he really could have been left out of the film entirely and it wouldn't have changed anything. I'd recommend seeing it, but only once you can rent it. Expand

Suicide Squad is not a bad movie; it isn't a good one either. The DC Comics Universe is lagging behind the Marvel one for a reason, and it is typified in this movie.
DC movies are supposedly dark and gritty and this movie was supposed to be a breath of fresh air, a fun-filled foul-mouthed screw-you to comic tropes. It is a terrible shame, then, that it follows these tropes to a 'T'. The movie is very predictable, and anyone who has watched any kind of action movie before can tell what comes next. The special effects and cinematography, which could excuse that, aren't anything to write home about either.

Which is a shame, because the potential is there. The characters are portrayed rather well, and Margot Robbie stands out. The promise of a host of personalities in the ensemble cast playing off each other, though, is wasted. This is because characterization is minimal. I was not invested in the character's motivations in any way, and once the credits rolled I was still wondering why every single event ensued the way it did.

An extended cut might solve the characterization problem, but this movie is too predictable to recommend for anything beyond a one-time watch.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Suicide Squad was the first comic book movie that ever starred the bad guys in a movie like this. After watching Suicide Squad, I was very letdown of how this film was set up by David Ayer. David Ayer tried his best to deliver Suicide Squad, but he effing' rushed it. As a result, Suicide Squad got panned even worser compared to bad DC movies such as Catwoman or even Batman & Robin. I would like to debunk this review into a pros and cons section. Agree or disagree with me but this is my actual thoughts about this film that did impressed me and that didn’t seem to dress to impress me:
PROS:
- The Suicide Squad
- Main Actors Performances
- Impressive Combination of Special and Visual Effects
- Suicide Squad's Colorful Soundtrack
- Post Credit Scene
CONS:
- Pacing Issues
- Predictable Ending
- Overused soundtrack
- Main Villain(s) weren't as intimidating
- Not Enough Joker Screentime
- Writing (Felt rushed comparing to True Detective Season 2’s writing and story)
- Plot Holes
- Jared Leto's Joker made me CRINGE... - Messy Dialogue
- Try hard moments
After seeing Suicide Squad, I can finally say that this movie was a piece of sh!t that MoS or BvS can pull it off better than that rushed final product. Talking about WORST.MOVIE.EVER

It still isn't great, but it's a step in the right direction. Additionally, it's way better than BvS and Ghostbusters (which yes, holds a higher score than this by 20 points). Suicide Squad's characters are really solid, specifically Will Smith's Deadshot, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Jay Hernandez's El Diablo, Viola Davis' Amanda Waller, and Jared Leto's Joker, and the action isn't too bad either. It's at the very least fun, unlike the majority of BvS. However, the films plot is nonexistent, the villain and her Ghostbusters/Amazing Spider-Man-esque action setup is pretty bland, the direction and editing are poor, and the soundtrack is totally hit or miss (almost trying to hard to replicate Guardians of the Galaxy). Overall, Suicide Squad is a solid popcorn flick with some basic problems that drag it down from being the movie that was supposed to save the DCEU. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie wasn't too bad honestly. Maybe because I went in with lower expectations that helped.

PROS

-Viola Davis is a great Waller, she really personified the role.
-Jai actually found a role he's great for and he doesn't have to change his accent! He was pretty funny throughout the film even if I couldn't understand him at times.
-Will Smith was definitely one of the better characters and it didn't feel like he was trying to steal the spotlight.
-The team dynamic worked and they all played well off each other.
-I personally really liked the soundtrack.

CONS

-Didn't like the Enchantress tbh and I didn't think she made a good villain.
-The pacing was messy as **** Enchantress was an accquantice then suddenly went to big bad in about a minute, there were several times where I was just left confused as to what was going on as some scenes didn't flow or give the audience enough time to justify it.
-Some quips felt really forced and because of that lost their humour.

A very entertaining and fun film with great action and enjoyable characters. Even though the film is very entertaining from beginning to end, it doesn't mean that the overall film is great.
The story to the film, villain and the mission that the squad was on is really lame. It might be the worst comicbook movie villain of all time. The horrible villain and mission might pull audience away from enjoying the movie. The sub-plots that focused on the individuals characters are much better than the main plot.
The highlight characters of the squad are Harley Quinn, Deadshot and El Diablo. The audience might leave the theater learning a lot about El Diablo. His story was very entertaining.
Amanda Waller was outstanding in every scene. She was so evil and mean, that it made the Sqaud look like heroes.
The best scenes from the movie came from Quinn/Joker. IT's hard to compare him to the other Jokers with so little screen time. This Joker is very scary and gangster.
The squad working together is a part that made the movie entertaining. Ayer did a great job with keeping the scenes with the Squad, entertaining . Even the dark moments with the Squad was very entertaining.
The story is a huge problem in this film. It is so awful that it might take away the enjoyment of the film. How did the people over at Warners Bros let Ayer shoot this script? DC has so many good villains, but they went with a horrible villian. The villains and mission made SS very campy. It made it into a grindhouse teen movie.
I would love to see the Suicide Squad on another mission. Ayer did good directing this horrible story film. There are more positives than negatives, but the awful story is a huge problem for this film.
In conclusion, this movie is a very action packed, entertaining, fun movie to watch, with the worst story, villain, mission of all time.

It's clear that Marvel has its game together and all of these DC conversions to the big screen are increasingly coming across as mediocre. I had this idea that Suicide Squad was going to be The Dark Knight, where sociopaths and murderous villains would force a more serious film with a dark sense of humor (think the chaotic strategy of Heath Ledger's Joker influencing the entire "Suicide Squad"). Suicide Squad is instead a more fluffy and imbalanced film with tons of great characters that are poorly utilized. Shame on Warner Bros. for basically failing to convert such cool source material. This is evidence that DC needs to align with writers and directors of Marvel movies to get stuff done, or have Christopher Nolan do everything that is within the DC universe, because between this and Superman vs. Batman, these franchises are being driven into the ground hard. I won't fault anyone for seeing this movie as the premise is great, yet I won't tell anyone to spend their money to watch it in theaters either. Didn't live up to what I wanted or compare to even the weakest of the Marvel movies, but despite that I still had fun watching it. Margot Robbie and Will Smith were great for the most part.

Here's what they did wrong.

- Weak plot
- Corny one liners (some cringe worthy)
- Questionably written dialog (introduction of Katana is almost unwatchable)...
- Action is bland and generic for the most part.
- Tone issues (tries to be too serious at times and is generally not funny despite the effort).
- The first quarter and 3 quarter of the movie seem to drag on too long with out much going on
- Villains are forgettable and have no depth or reasonably explained motivation.
- Where are the "Bad Guys"? Harley and Deadshot both have way too much of a conscience for the mass murders they are supposed to be.

I'm a bit more harsh on it b/c I'm a fan and think it could have been done better, but over all it's not a bad movie.

This DC tent-pole should have been the counterpart of Marvel's Guardians of the galaxy back in 2014. Secondly it was also considered as something that drives DCEU into the safe zone as BvS was considered a miss with the critics, although financially hit.

Let's do the short breakdown. Jared Leto's potential is wasted here. The movie has snippets of Joker joined together when there should have been a continuous non-narrative flashback sequence with Dr. Quinzel aligning it with Quinn's introduction. The muddled screenplay driving the plot out of the Squad team targeting their antagonist is what affects this movie as a whole beyond redemption.

The movie scores with Deadshot-Quinn duo much better, even with finite amount of screen time. Jai Courtney's Boomerang suffers high volume of injustice. The only thing that lifted this movie's spirits were the mid credits scene that links it with DCEU supposedly advancing further. I'd still give the movie a 6/10 and it deserves nothing more.

The characters were actually pretty decent. They had a nice chemistry together, especially with Deadshot and Harley Quinn. If you're going to see the movie just for Joker, you will be disappointed, because Warner Bros decided to cut out some of the scenes with him. I think the movie would've been a bit better if there was more Joker. Expand

It's never boring, the characters are fun, and it had a little something for everyone. The flaws? The Amanda Waller role was horribly mis-cast with Viola Davis - either that, or she had horrible direction. The Waller role in the CW's "Arrow" was filled in SUCH better fashion by that actor, whoever she is. The biggest problem with this film is the "bad guys" - totally abstract and amorphous - nothing really to root against. And by making them those walking blobs, you never have any blood, and you preserve that PG 13 rating. Highly Wussy. All that being said, Smith and Robbie are fantastic, and they absolutely carry the film. Oh, and did I mention the fact that this movie is MUCH better than Captain America: Civil War from earlier in the year? that one also bored me to death with all the long, slow conversations. Suicide Squad has style, great music, and personality. Worth seeing, indeed. Expand

This movie is slightly better than batman vs superman. My main complaint is the joker wasn't in it enough. Mr. J probably only had 15 minutes of screen time and the movie is over 2 hours long.

The cast is fine with Will Smith being a highlight singlehandedly carrying the movie with his constant quips and backstory. While the rest of the Squad is fine most could’ve benefited from giving development. Had DC taken the time to think about the larger story they could’ve developed the characters in these movies whether through their own films or having them serve as the antagonist in another DC movies. As a result, some characters are either given little to no development or are given forced exposition. It also would’ve helped if DC had realized the film needed to embrace a fun tone early on as the humor often feels quite forced breaking up what is otherwise a dull war movie. If this universe is going to continue, hopefully DC will realize what works. The scenes with Batman made me smile, which means that this universe is doing something right, when Zach Synder isn’t involved. Here’s hoping for either a better sequel, even though the Justice League reduces the need for a Suicide Squad, and the solo Batman film with Joker and Harley Quinn and/or a solo Deadshot movie. There are some good elements in this universe DC just needs to figure them out and use them. Expand

Will Smith saved the movie as Dead Eye. The Joker was underwhelming and played too minor of a part. Harley Quinn was hit and miss with the dialogue but provided descent quirky acting and facial expressions. The other villains were fairly bland and quiet for better or for worse. As for the main two villains who the Suicide Squad is trying to take down, they are undeveloped as characters and just generic old gods trying to destroy the world.

All that being said, the movie also had strong visuals accompanying the action with effects and coloring more of the movie industry I feel should look into applying in their movies. It is nice to see a movie willing to dare to be colorful and visually pleasing in a modern movie industry composed chiefly of grey and brown action flicks.

This comic-book franchise has been derailed by the one and only ZackThree strikes and you're out in baseball. This could be said about a lot of movie franchises. However, DC's universe has been scheduled for more movies than it deserves. This comic-book franchise has been derailed by the one and only Zack Snyder and it looks like it will never be fixed. The Suicide Squad trailers tried to prove a lot of the haters wrong. It's marketing was perfect as it showed a funny spin on the universe. It got a lot of the critics of the franchise on board as well. It surely did its job to try and manipulate audiences into believing that this universe wasn't a complete disaster. Unfortunately, “disaster” is the exact word to describe this movie. If Warner Brothers and DC wanted this movie to change the critics minds, they failed.

Suicide Squad is directed by David Ayer and produced by Zack Snyder. Amanda Waller (played by Viola Davis) is trying to get a team together to fight threats that could potentially harm the world. She wants this team ready so that if another Superman comes down, their will be a team that can stop it. Waller gets the help of some bad people that will do a lot of good. Enchantress is one of these villains but she doesn't want to follow orders and creates a plot to create an army to destroy everything. She's a mystical witch that releases her brother. Her brother helps her in her effort to take over the world. The Suicide Squad has their first task in taking down the threat. However, they soon realize that not only are the bad guys in front of them, they're also the ones pulling the strings.

Suicide Squad’s biggest failure is in the character department. The big selling point of the movie was that audiences were going to get great characters that were interesting and fun. What we got were characters that were boring and wooden. There are only a few of them that get a backstories (of course these are the three major stars in the movie). Most of them never get any character development. They're tossed a side for no reason at all. Majority aren't interesting enough to care about to begin with. This has to do with both bad screen-writing and a lack of talent in the acting department. The dialogue doesn't help these actors, but a lot of the acting is god awful. The three major ones that are quite awful are Enchantress (played by Cara Delevingne), Boomerang (played by Jai Courtney), and the Joker (played by Jared Leto).

Leto doesn't do a terrible job with the Joker but the character is so bad that it becomes nauseating at times. He's not the Joker that's been seen in any live-action movie yet. He's a gangster with a gold tooth and a whole lot of tattoos. Leto is given a character that seems to scare everyone around him but never feels menacing at all. The over-the-top performance doesn't help, but Leto isn't given a character he can shine with. The worst acting in the movie is Courtney’s performance. Courtney is a terrible actor to begin with and this movie doesn't prove that wrong. His delivery of some of lines is cringe-worthy at best and he's constantly aggravating throughout the entire runtime. Delevingne’s performance isn't much better. It's over the top, loud, obnoxious, and overall lazy. She's out of her element and it shows in her performance.

Suicide Squad has a lot of directional and screen-writing errors as well. A scene where the squads chopper is shot down by someone we never see. Though the movie doesn't really pay a lot of attention on the crash in the first place as it just cuts to the team walking down the street with no transition shot. Action scenes are shaking and sometimes hard to follow. Enchantress’s heart is her only weak point, then it's not, and then it is again. Enchantress is in control of a person’s body. If she dies, the body dies. This was the overall message throughout the whole movie until we needed tension and a fake-out death scene. There was an annoying amount of fake-out death scenes in the film. It seems like DC’s new trend. Though the worst offense is when a group of non-meta human villains was able to take down a demonic witch and her brother. Their no match for them but somehow pull it together and win. It's done in the most lazy way possible (wont tell you for spoiler reasons).

There’s a lot these inconsistencies with a lot of unrealistic moments in Suicide Squad that turns the movie into a joke after while. It's like a punchline of a joke by the Joker. Nothing in the movie impressed me. Nothing in the movie was groundbreaking. Nothing was fun to watch. DC might be able to disguise this crap better with some audience members. However, it's still crap at the end of the day.

Overall, Suicide Squad is the biggest disappointment of the year. The beginning produces some promise, but it's just a glimmer of hope that fades when the second act starts. What could have been an interesting film, fades into oblivion with a terrible performance by everyone evolved with the film. This new universe DC/Warner Brothers have created, has another strike under its belt. It's time to just scrap this new universe and reboot. However, the box-office numbers will state over-wise.

As it is, it's some entertaining performances and imagery dragged down by a variety of errors. It's less than the sum of it's parts. Still worth seeing.

The Good:
Most of the performances were strong. Gleefully over the top, but fun. The characters talk honestly and amorally. There are lots of pretty colors. There are fun little touches like one character that is a BET fan and there are serious moments where the characters' power seems perilous. The cast must be about as demographically diverse as for any big movie ever, but there is a refreshing lack of political correctness and pandering. Batman's appearances create a sense of mythos.

The Bad:
Thin writing that shows obvious plot devices like a redshirt squad member to die, a villain gratuitously shooting henchman to demonstrate villainy, and them expecting us to believe that the Joker is dead (seriously). Cara Delevingne is completely unconvincing as either a witch or as someone with a PhD. The soundtrack is too loud and too head-on-nail, and the score from Steven Price sounds too much like his last effort. There is plenty of room to question their editorial choices too. The Joker is not really in the movie any more than Batman is. Most of the good lines were already in the trailers, and there wasn't enough humor.

All told, one wishes they'd done a better job executing this movie, but there's certainly room to hope for better in DC's future movies, and there's enough here to watch this one. Don't worry about the professional critics; they seem a bit out of touch.

While it will certainly please a lot of those who are fans of the franchise, it was confusing at times and it was obvious that lots had been cut.

Jokes were often forced into moments where they didn't really seem right, as the film tried to be both in the spirit of Deadpool and The Dark Knight. A lot of popular soundtracks were used over footage that had clearly been intended for a different score, and the plot was far too loose. Some of the characters, particularly the soul-storing sword bearer, were simply not needed. There wasn't enough explanation as to who some of the characters were or their relation to the other villains.

Margot Robbie however, held a great performance. Will Smith was also good here, as well as several members of the main cast. But overall the film suffers from a saturation of emotional back stories, and doesn't explain its plot well enough, especially for casual viewers. While I'm sure fans of the DC universe will find lots to enjoy here, many movie goers may get a bit lost in the clunky nature of it all.

This is not a terrible movie! But it could be so much better...
Here are my main thoughts:
- Characters are really cool and full of potential, but underused... the movie gives us only shallow takes into minds that seem to go deep, much deeper than what we can grasp with the movie.
- The script is also built on an interesting idea. Not only the concept of villains saving the day is cool, but the situation they are put into has a lot of room for cool stuff. The problem is that they did not explore this interesting ground. The main issue here, in my opinion, is that they did not create convincing backgrounds for the events in the movie. For instance, there is no good reason why superheroes, instead of a task force of bad guys unworthy of trust, couldn't deal with the situation... and we all know these superheroes exist in this universe.
- Generic-marvel style villain with no personality, a Pink and the Brain motivation, and whose power is not really clear to anyone, but is always convenient for the situation and the camera angle...this seems to be where superhero films are failing the most lately and SQ follows the trend.
- Really cool music work... SQ has that thing that Snyder sometimes does, building sequences framed kinda like a music video for a very cool song. Well done SQ crew!
- Really bad editing... too often it feels like some part of the dialog or a sequence is missing or out of order (and not in that cool 'it already happened, but everyone is learning about it now' flash style).

THE MAJOR FLAW. In my opinion, there's one major flaw that dumps down this movie and gets in the way of a truly nice experience as a viewer. SQ tries to find a common ground between being artsy and poetic a la Watchmen, and being down to earth and sound a la The Dark Knight - while still having the flashy-marvel moments. Although I praise experimenting, this common ground does not work and SQ was turned into a mess that clearly does not know its place. I can imagine this movie being as overwhelming as watchmen if they had gone all the way into this direction. I can also imagine they leaving all the magic and superpowers aside to make a down to earth action thriller with realistic crazy bad guys and it would have worked (I believe)! As for the marvel-flashy things.... movie makers, get over it!

They were really on to something with Nolan's Batman franchise, a real Marvel Cinematic Universe challenger, and then 'Man of Steel' and 'Batman vs Superman' came along and nearly erased that sense of wonder the Nolan films brought. 'Suicide Squad' is pretty important, then, in reestablishing legitimacy to the tarnished DC cinematic universe, and in that, it does fail. That said, the movie is absolutely nowhere near the 0%-30% ratings most critics and critical sites are smearing the movie with.

Overall it's a generally fun 2 hour romp, more fun than the Batman and Superman movies of late by far, I'll even go so far as to say it's time better spent than Fox's latest X-Men movie, which I just saw like a month ago and remember next to nothing about.

But yeah, it's a mess. For one thing, you could remove The Joker, you could take out Captain Boomerang, you could erase Katana, and virtually nothing would change. I think Captain Boomerand actually throws boomerangs like twice? Three times tops? And the powers on display here carry none of the interesting weight of the characters from other recent superhero movies - an exception might be Will Smith's Deadshot, who never misses, and I gotta say, I loved the creepy effects of Enchantress in the early parts of the movie, before she gets totally CGI'd out.
What doesn't work, you can read in any review. Sloppy, doesn't know how to balance the whole good/bad dichotomy going on, too many backstories without enough substance - but some stuff works, too. As another reviewer said, it's a bit like watching someone play a video game. Fun-ish. It does feel a bit like watching a comic book come-to-life, but nowhere near the degree achieved in something like the epic Avengers mass superhero blowout brawl. I can think of worse ways to spend two hours. Don't come for the storyline, just grab a box of popcorn and let go for a couple hours. It's bright, colorful, cartoonish fun.

But DC better step up its game of it hopes to compete with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is managing to provide both the fun and the overarching storylines.

The hype for this film was big and expectations may have been admittedly very high, but this film fails on a level deeper than just a bad movie where a good movie was expected. Suicide Squad features a great cast, but falls flat in terms of story, and rushes through its already thin story. What’s so sad is that the formula for a really good movie was there and the filmmakers ignored it completely.
With a film that has so many talented stars in it, and Jai Courtney, it’s not surprising that the expectations were very high for the film. Will Smith is not immune to bad decisions when it comes to his films, but he’s pretty good at rising above them and making films better all on his own. Jared Leto is pretty great in this film, he’ll undoubtedly be judged by comparisons to other Joker performances, but just on his own merit he was great. The entire cast did a good job, Smith, Leto, Viola Davis, and Margot Robbie were all excellent in their performances, but they were failed by a poorly crafted film.
The biggest problem is the fact that the screenwriter and director seemed to not be on the same page, when it came to what this film was about, or more precisely who this film is about. To me, it’s about Rick Flag and the Enchantress. However, clearly somebody in the process missed that and felt that every character needed an appropriate amount of backstory, which they don’t. The result of this confusion is two cardinal sins, the first is that the audience is given a lot of needless scenes of backstory that we don’t need that waters down the story. The second and far more egregious is that the better story was very clearly sitting within this watered down, and crowded mess that we ended up with.
Without spoilers this film rushes through introducing all of it’s characters and giving backstory, for almost every one of them. Frankly there are more subtle and effective ways to show us something than 5 minute flashbacks for every character. Above that we can’t care about the characters, besides Amanda Waller who you will grow to hate because Viola Davis gave an amazing performance, which really hurts the film because they were on to something. The painful thing is that if the filmmakers had looked at what they had, they may have noticed that certain alternative plot points would have been far more emotionally impactful, and they just missed them.
It’s easy to see how some will enjoy this film, it’s not boring, or unenjoyable. This film just suffers from the same problem that Batman v. Superman did, the better film rests within the mess we were given. In the end Suicide Squad is rushed, crowded, features a weak villain, and feels like a poor man’s Guardians of the Galaxy. That being said kids may enjoy this film and comic book die hards like will too, simply for the spectacle.

A catastrophic mess of a film, but not without its merits. It beats both MoS and BvS in at least being somehow likeable, sometimes even fun. But lets not downplay this here - it's a trainwreck on all accounts.

Many segments are edited as if they were the trailer for that segment, with choppy shots, incoherent pacing of conversations and a lot of feeling left out of whole sections of movie. How can the plot be so thin and yet make its viewers feel left out, as if a lot more has been going than there actually has been? And it's not just editting - shots are poorly framed, with an abundance of facial close-ups during action sequences clearly there to pad those few scenes they chose not to throw out. Action is, while sometimes mildly fun, mostly a mess.

Most characters outright suck. In particular is the pimp version of The Joker, who oozes sleaze in the worst possible way - less psychotic clown prince of crime, and more creepy uncle in terrible cosplay. Yet these characterizations somehow completely clash with his surroundings - for every moment he spends being a mouth-breathing loser, there is a close-up of one of his try-hard tattoos, or him vandalizing the walls of his OWN ROOM by writing "HA! HA! HA" all over them, like an angsty tween vandalizing their desk at school. This is followed by laying down in a circle of knives, and, presumably off-camera, curling into a ball and weeping about how much nobody gets him, It's the literal worst, yet it encapsulates how Snyder and co. just don't get it - all of them suck. This pretty much closes the loop started with MoS - a whiny and reluctant Superman who pouts all the time instead of being at all Super, followed by the dumbest world's best detective who upholds good by straight up murdering people, culminating in a clown prince of crime that is not a scary clown nor a funny clown nor even much of a criminal and more like a whiny baby with a gun.
Yeah, it's a pretty bad flick. But it's far from the worst, and with DC doing what DC does - this is clearly the best they have to offer with this current generation of films. At this rate - we are closer to a total reboot of all of this franchise than we are to a Justice League 2. With a meta-franchise being born this horribly deformed and in constant agony perhaps it's time to put Harley's mallet to good use, and perform a late abortion on this whole thing. Start over with someone who doesn't only claim he holds these characters and stories in some reverence, but can also demonstrate that he or she REMOTELY gets the subject matter and how to convey it to an audience in a way that is, at best, barely enjoyable sometimes maybe.

The only exception to the WHOLE cast is Harley Quinn, though with only some redeeming moments to make her at all funny or fun or even remotely intimidating. She's the one kinda-good thing in this movie, with Deadshot being a close second at "not terrible".

Cannot wait for the DC reboot; and probably a "Infinite Crisis" trailer at Comic-Con 2018.

Overall it wasn't a terrible movie; the potential was there and there were some positives to it, like Will Smith and Margot Robbie's chemistry, Jared Leto's Joker portrayal and just the fact that I'm a sucker for superhero films.

However, what really did it in for me was the plot line and script. It almost seemed like had they pushed the release date back, spent some more time on the editing and script of the film, it could have at least been a little more put together and not so convoluted.

Nevertheless, it kept my attention throughout even though I walked out wondering so much about certain plot holes about scenes that didn't really make a whole lot of sense. Go see it, but keep your expectations low.

Smith is great as Deadshot, Robbie is an excellent Quinn. Leto's joker however, doesn't have the charisma that previous joker's had. In the few scenes he makes an appearance in, he doubles down on the insanity, but fails to capture that spark of whimsical intelligence that makes Joker truly dangerous. The rest of the Suicide Squad are forgettable, but have decent moments between them. The main flaw with this movie isn't the characters however, it is the pacing. An exposition filled introduction carries on to the point that I personally lost interest. Another issue this film seems to have is its PG-13 rating, which made most of the villainous main cast seem rather toothless at times. All in all it gets a 'Meh, you tried.' Expand

I really got to say, the movie's plot was crap, the reason any of these bad guys turned to heroes doesn't make any sense at all and some of these "bad guys" don't act what their called. But... The acting of Will Smith as Deadshot and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn was incredible, the delivery of every story of each character was good and all and that smartly hidden part at the post-credits showing the real reason the Justice League is forming is also good. It is a good movie filled with "action", the thing most DC Comics movies don't have, but mixed with that horrible plot makes this movie still watchable but not worth the money. It could have been more, just sayin. Expand

The movie screamed heavy studio intervention in all scenes. Point in case...Suicide Squad’s editing seems to imply a test audience had more sway over the movie than the director (David Ayer). Depth is sacrificed in order to make way for boring fast-paced blockbuster action (think Transformers). The beginning of the film features an assortment of popular songs each used in three-minute scenes introducing a character most non-comic readers have never heard of. The film then gives up on making us really care about the characters with the exception of a few. Two characters with any semblance of development are Deadshot and Harley Quinn. Fans and critics alike seem to think Will Smith is the redeeming element of the movie. I sorta agree but any noble attempt at humor or development is squandered by a horrible script that comes across as one written by a high school student’s first go at a screenplay. Will Smith essentially acts as himself throughout most scenes in the movie. Margot Robbie is convincingly crazy at times. The problem with Robbie’s Quinn is that our disturbed “heroine” comes across as eccentric at best in a fair amount of scenes. Quinn’s hazy ADD flashbacks are unclear on what made her “crazy”. As a result, the actions of Harley are hard to judge on their authenticity to her character. A good film analogy is Anakin’s turn to the dark side. We all know he has to be Darth Vader at some point. Also, Jared Leto is an abysmal Joker who comes across as a gangbanger attempting a cosplay for the first time. (sans Joker) You really can’t have an ensemble with characters people aren't familiar with or with a lack of developed stakes. Most of the film is a CG romp through a city in order to stop some giant beam in the sky from wiping out civilization (not cliche at all). Surprisingly, I enjoyed the film more than Batman V Superman because it works as a campy nerd movie. Expand

Haven't they learned anything from their past muddled messes? Keep it simple. The main conflict, Enchantress and her brother building some magical machine to destroy the world, was nonsensical. If they had confined the bulk of the action to Arkham Prison, as in the original, it would have been addition by subtraction, and a much more coherent and enjoyable film. For those who haven't seen it, watch Assault on Arkham to see what could have been. Expand

Will Smith and Viola Davis were great castings, Jay Hernandez was also cool as was to a certain extent Jai Courtney. Will Smith makes the movie watchable and he is a great version of Deadshot though thats because he was the only character that actually felt fleshed out, which I'm sure is because Will Smith wouldn't have signed onto the film had his character not been in the linelight. You can smell studio meddling almost a mile away with glaring evidence of reshoots, a paper thin and predictable plot with a horrible villain and characters that almost seem to be too likable, theyre supposed to be bad guys right? Margot Robbie was awful as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto's joker I found to be a tad bit underwhelming, mostly due to his lack of screentime. To me, it just feels like Ayer had a certain vision for this movie when the first trailer dropped but then WB execs decided to try and cash in on Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy but only failed miserably. On the plus side, Suicide Squad is a fun movie, it has some cool scenes and Ayer tries his best to make the movie watchable. Enchantress was an awful villain, a movie based on the "Assault on Arkham" anime with the Leto's Joker as the main villian would have sufficed better for this movie as a whole. Expand

However, when I began to see all the promotional stuff and ads for Suicide Squad, my hope and optimism had resurfaced, as I thought maybe this was DC's answer to Marvel's GotG, as well as their answer to fixing the DCCU. It had a great cast and a proven director with talent. Going in, I thought, what could possibly go wrong? Well, the answer was many things. Suicide Squad is a mess of a movie, at least story-wise. The story is weak, the characters have no motivations for how they act, and the whole thing is poorly edited, something I'd contribute to the studio, not the director.

The team itself is great, they all clearly have good chemistry and work well together. They are what keep the film from becoming a total disaster. Will Smith as Deadshot is entertaining, he clearly had fun with the character and the story seems to give him the most motivation for fighting. Margot Robbie is very good as Harley Quinn, and reminds me a lot of the Harley of Batman: TAS. And finally, Jared Leto as the Joker shows plenty of potential, he just needs more time in the spotlight, which the film doesn't allow. His dynamic with Harley was easily the best aspect of the movie. I won't mention the rest of the squad, because they're not worth mentioning. They have tiny parts, get very little backstory and basically take a backseat while the big 3 (Leto, Smith and Robbie) steal the spotlight. Although I will give props to Jay Hernandez as Diablo, who had some very good moments with what time to shine he was given, and to Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, who managed to pull off a good and humorous performance, something Courtney seems to struggle when in a bigger role. And lastly, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller is truly great, she's pulls off that extremely intimidating appearance as if she were straight from the comics themselves.

The soundtrack is also great, blending new and old, and does help the movie establish it's slightly light-hearted tone quickly.

After the squad introductions and the story is set up, basically the first 30 minutes, he film falls apart quite fast. It turns into a very generic action flick where the squad fights generic drones of enemies. The setting also doesn't contribute to the fun, colorful tone of the film. It's a bunch of colorful characters in a colorless world. Everything eventually concludes with a final action scene that I'd compare to Fantastic Four. The villain is very generic and this final battle only solidifies how generic she and her plan (or lack thereof) are.

I did have a fair amount of fun with Suicide Squad, which is more than BvS was able to offer. The cast has some really great chemistry, with some really good performances and the soundtrack is a really nice blend of both new and old. However the story, script, villain and character motivations bog the movie down, holding it back from what it could become. The team itself is great, they just need a better story. Overall, Suicide Squad is the DCCU's best film, but that's not saying much.

The trailers and hype focused on the characters and commissioning, leaving the core story a mystery. In all fairness it worked. But, after the movie I realized there wasn't a mystery. What seemed to be the central plot sat in the background out of focus until the very end and was disappointing and cliche when it arrived. That left the rest of the movie's focus on character development and team building scenarios. Unless you're satisfied with the trailer introductions the character dev was quick, short and shallow forming little connection with audience interest. Perhaps it was trying to accomplish too much with too many characters. Most of the characters I found interesting had very little screen time which was disappointing. I really wanted to like this movie. I am one of the few that really enjoyed BvS, so it's not a slam DC thing. I think the best place for SS is in a Netflix series where it can be given more time to grow and give time for character dev. Expand

The film itself was what I would refer to as a Sunday night background flick. The film is fun, and had a certain entertainment value when I watched it. However the past few DC films have not been up to the standard which they should have been. The screenwriting for Suicide Squad was all over the place. The casting was perfect, however it very much felt as if there was too much going on at some points, and too little at others. The film lacked consistency. For this film there must be a directors cut coming out as some of the things that we were shown in trailers weren't even in the film.

The soundtrack for the film was all over the place also, with DC trying to "Marvel" too hard. There were segments reminiscent of deadpool, and others reminiscent of Guardians of the Galaxy.

The films humour felt very forced, and when I laughed it wasn't a "haha that's funny", but a ha... That's awkward. It is was just forced throughout.

That's not to say that I wouldn't watch this film again. The film overall was okay, but not this perfect grail that the DC fanboys are hyping. As a generic movie goer, this film is definitely worth watching for the entertainment value, and I would say for Will Smith's deadshot alone. He plays the role very well. However don't go in with high expectations, or you'll end up leaving feeling as if you've been let down.

Just as a disclaimer also, this is in no way an attack on DC films. Man of steel and BvS were awful, but DC in the past have made brilliant movies. E.G The Dark Knight Trilogy. And one can only hope they will hit that standard again.

The filmwriting was... **** amateur-ish, really, it was just a hot
