It's criminally underrated...it may have a dumb villain but it's fun to watch. And the action is amazing!
I love this film. Leonard Nimoy directed a strong movie.

This film is the third of the franchise and addresses the theme of death and resurrection of Spock, something that I honestly could not understand immediately but, being an alien, did not make any knot in my head when I've got it. The scriptThis film is the third of the franchise and addresses the theme of death and resurrection of Spock, something that I honestly could not understand immediately but, being an alien, did not make any knot in my head when I've got it. The script is not bad but it gets even better from the moment the Klingons, a welcome element of action, are added to the story. However, being a film that continues the story of "The Wrath of Khan," it is natural that both are similar at several points. On a technical level, they're almost identical, the sets and costumes are the same and the special effects are still what we could expect at this period. And as for the actors, this film is almost entirely of Leonard Nimoy and DeForest Kelley, actors that the script privileged and that they had the capacity to shine. In the end, we get a film that honors its predecessor without, however, being able to match it. Expand

I kind of have split feelings of this movie, on the one hand I really enjoyed everyone's performances. Lloyd, Shatner and Nimoy in particular. Each seem to extremely dedicated to their roles and act with such passion.

So what didn't I like? pretty much everything else. Story more or less belittles the fabulous ending of ST2. Then again, its great to have Spock back. A shame they didn't find a better way to do it that didn't feel so cheap.

Overall:
ST3 feels more like an extension of ST2 to the point that it feels more like a really long episode.

Together with the prequel and sequel there was an overarching story arc. Star Trek 3 starts directly were the last movie ended. The crew return home victorious but have still lost more than they can bear. Like the title said there was a way to eventually bring back Spock but the actions of the previous film created a political nightmare for the Federation. Kirk and his crew have to trick their way out to get a chance to bring back Spock. While I admit that this movie is not as good as the previous it is still worth watching. It is directed by Leonard Nimoy and was his first big project as director. I will praise him for this because many have failed on their first big movie. He does a good job here. All actors deliver their roles as expected. Here I will praise Mc Coy for his performance and you will see why. Kirk, Sulu and Scotty have really awesome scenes. Uhura and Chekov are a bit underused but still deliver. Saavik was played by a different actress (I did not notice this initially). Story wise they do nothing wrong. Especially the escape of the Kobayashi Maru to the promised land arc is a highlight ;-). It has also a later moment were you see the end of an era. The general motives are friendship and what you would do for friends with some references to christian methodology. Also there is the theme of humanities arrogance with the Genesis project that was also mentioned by Mc Coy earlier (or in Star Trek 2?). We got an additional bit of insight in Klingon's and their different thinking caused of cultural differences. I even think they are not truly evil here but feel their way of life and culture or even existence threatened. While I don't agree with them I can see their point of view. I must say I dislike what they did with Davis Marcus. Overall this is a solid movie and a good debut for Leonard Nimoy as director. Bonus knowledge: Saavik and Spock are married (Non Canon). You can look this up in Memory Beta if you do not believe me.. Expand

Star Trek : The Search For Spock

The rudimentary process in here is the downer that never allows the feature to raise the bar at any point of the feature addition to that its first two act grows obvious and dull as it barely move past its premise which too lacks enough potential to feed the audience throughout its runtime. It is short on technical aspects like visual effects, sound department and editing as usual. The script could have been supervised a lot better by Harve Bennett and on terms of execution Leonard Nimoy needs some work for it comes off chalky around the edges. The performance is decent by William Shatner, DeForest Kelley and Christopher Lloyd although there isn't much space for Leonard Nimoy to factor in as Spock, he never disappoints. The makers seem to take fandom for granted in here as their assumption for chewing off the characters too much, is definitely not good on terms of the quality that it is responsible to offer. The journey of young Spock in here is the best sequence in here where one can see the rich details in writing. Star Trek : The Search For Spock is actually a seek for mediocrity which is frankly not feasible for the actors, makers, audience and franchise.

StarStar Trek II saw the death of Khan and Genesis destroyed as it exploded, also Spock's death.... Star Trek III: The Search for Spock is the next chapter as it continues the story, made in 1984 and directed by Leonard Nimoy himself.... Star Trek III: The Search for Spock opens I think with clips from the end of the second film as William Shatner who plays Kirk says goodbye to Spock.... Then eventually they steal the enterprise after docking onto a space station or something and persued by another ship but escape using warp drive. Now they encounter a Klingon ship later and surrender and invite the Klingons to beam aboard a ship that's took so much damage but when the Klingons arrive there's a timer set to self destruct... With the enterprise crew beamed safely onto the Genesis planet the enterprise explodes in space killing the Klingons. Later the enterprise use the Klingon ship instead which is silly.... Spocks an infant on Genesis and somehow his bodies been resurrected from death into life as he ages rapidly from infant to adult... Later the crew are reunited with Spock after some Vulcan ritual or something, it's purpose to give Spock his mind back which Dr. McCoy has.... If you watched Star Trek II you'd understand this..... Great ending having Spock back and great performances by Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner and Christopher Lloyd as Klingon leader....With the usual Nichelle Nichols, James Doohan, Walter Koenig and the rest of the cast and excellently directed, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock is another classic in the series. A good sequel even if it doesn't live up to its predecessor, The Search For Spock is a fun adventure, sadly, It takes away all the emotions and stakes in Wrath of Khan.

Star Trek has always been about the amazing exploits of the Starship Enterprise, but as this movie rather explicitly points out, I believe it's also about two unlikely friends who are there for each other no matter the threat. Like Episode 7Star Trek has always been about the amazing exploits of the Starship Enterprise, but as this movie rather explicitly points out, I believe it's also about two unlikely friends who are there for each other no matter the threat. Like Episode 7 did for Luke Skywalker, The Search for Spock does the same for Spock. Kirk's guilt over Spock's death hangs over him the entire movie, so the search for Spock is really a search for his soul. Throughout the entire movie, we are impatiently awaiting the inevitable, but fortunately, the remaining plot is engaging enough to keep us engaged long enough for the disclosures to come to light.
