I thought this was quite an entertaining watch - some of the foreign accents (Russian and Scottish) made me smirk a little as they didn't sound entirely authentic, shall I say. However, the special effects are quite decent, I quite liked the wandering/free floating style of camerawork and the pace is relatively fast once the plot gets going. Its a fairly engrossing watch with some impressive landscapes/cinematography, some reasonably good dialogue and I did find myself feeling concerned for the characters, so overall I thought it was a good film thats worth a watch. I didn't like the direction of this movie. Just a bad script. I found myself pressing fast forward a lot because it dragged.. This movie is not worth watching.

Absolutely the best in the trilogy, Beyond manages to capture a little bit of that classic Star Trek feel. A flawed, but ultimately good film.

Amazingly Adventurous but the feel of JJ Abrams's prequels felt missing!the prequels theme and style with fast-paced action packed full of mind-blowing twist and full of adrenaline rush and lens flare it has its feel of there own watching this movie it felt watching totally new franchise with same cast although the old movies and show's feel was little there, the 1st half has little story's flow issue but after the action and twist it was entertaining till the last, the Spock primes tribute and memory was emotional specially the ending scene of old crew's pic it was incredibly satisfying moment, the music, the visuals and the acting is top notch the story was simply decent the split-ed Crew's adventure was fun and engaging, the planets survivor and team's team-up was amazing, the starting intro to members and the plot of rescue until planet's incident was okay although the Space station's overview was mind-blowingly epic, from the planet's crash and action it was entertaining as hell, the Spock and Doc's each and every moment together was amazing the way there relations are developed it was amazing, the cap's rescue mission till end with twists and fight it was awesome, the old ship's take-off and the awesome space battle upon that the music thing at last it was literally mind-blowing and awesome.Literally last 30 mins were edge of the seat fun the action and chase with amazing hand-to hand combat of cap and old cap the whole mystery of Old ship and there captain felt little rushed as it was figured with clip although it was amazing, after the ending the cap's birthday and Trio's moment with Spock's thing it was a Satisfying end!Overall its an entertainingly amazing movie! This movie suffers from the fact that it came out right after the untimely passing of a couple beloved folks. It’s great fun now that time has been allowed to pass. Sad we don’t have another one.

Of all the newer films produced by Bad Robot, this felt most like Star Trek. Still, none of them match the thoughtful storytelling of the Roddenberry era.

Such a poor movie, completely lost anything that made Star Trek good in the first place. Instead this could be any space based film another Star Wars spin off? None of the subtle ambiguity of the original series, just black n white, good vs evil.

Just a shoot em up movie that has a Star Trek name on it.

If I can say that I really enjoyed the two previous films, this time I was a bit disappointed. The actors' work remains impeccable as well as the way the plot takes advantage of all the central characters, giving each one the right moments to shine instead of giving almost all focus to three/four characters, as happened in earlier movies. The way they interact and dialogue its also positive. So what made me so disappointed? Two things. The first is the powerful and obvious CGI, so evident that loses realism and credibility. It looks fantastic but is so clearly false that it doesn't impressed us. And worse than that: it dominates to the point the movie itself forgets the plot. That's the second thing that blew me away. The plot is something so basic and so poorly developed that it makes me wonder if it would have been better to remake one of the older movies. There are points in the film that are clearly unexplained, such as the nature of the bio-weapon that Krall sought so hard, or the reason he seems so unhuman for most of the time, to give only two examples.

Either way, it's a movie that entertains the audience well and provides two hours of quality time. And its the first film made after the death of Leonard Nimoy, a very present absence during the film in that its abundantly mentioned and honored throughout the action, especially by young Spock (Zachary Quinto). No one, surely, doubts he deserved it.

For a moment I felt myself dropped into the Mass Effect Andromeda game when confronted by what must be one of the most boring, generic adversary I have seen for a decade. Whereas in Andromeda they at least try to flesh out to enemy leaderFor a moment I felt myself dropped into the Mass Effect Andromeda game when confronted by what must be one of the most boring, generic adversary I have seen for a decade. Whereas in Andromeda they at least try to flesh out to enemy leader more, here we get you run-of-the mill generic reptilian looking baddy with a slavish following wanting to destroy the federation for reasons. He also seems to have the control a large fleet of ships and seems totally unaccountable to anyone. Excruciating boring are the few exchanges he has with Kirk and Uhura. Yes, yes, being the top dog is all that counts in our amoral universe.

I dare say that star trek heads the opposite of star wars as it denudes itself from anything that makes sense or makes you feel connected to the people. There are some attempts at this, but as someone said elsewhere. They nod at it and then continues with the relentless frantic action scenes that seem to topple over each-other. No pause is given as the movie goes from chase scene, to fight scene, to blow up scene. It is written large: there will be no moment to ponder. Of course there are a few moments in which pondering happens, but they are at the beginning, just to get them over with. Star Trek beyond baffles mostly by the outrageous: the sheer outrageous stupidity of the cast making one idiotic decision after the other, the sheer outrageous luck that gets them out of their predicament that those idiotic decisions put them into, the sheer idiocy of the writing that offers the outrageous funniest and outrageous ridiculous moments, such as the one where they blow up the enemies swarms of ship with an old rock song.

The biggest problem is that the cast of well established characters are in fact outrageous boring, with the exception of Uhura and some newcomers.

It would be better if Star Trek rebooted again and then introduced us with some new characters so that they can be fleshed out and explored. Give the whole movie some more depth and people motivation that make sense.

Just having a uninteresting star trek crew take on a generic baddy is.. (here it comes) beyond boring.

That all been said, if you like a relentless series of action scenes that does not pause for anything substantial, you will probably find that here. But to be honest: you get the same with Guardians of the Galaxy, but that has better characters, slightly more depth and more humor definitely. So if you have to face that choice, you know what you are getting into.

Abrams das Regiezepter an The Fast and the Furious-Regisseur Justin Lin weiter – und das merkt man. Expand

While the story wasn't completely strong the chemistry of the cast was. The visuals were also as strong as the great action, since all of JJ's beloved lens flares weren't in the way.

Spock missing older Spock from an alternate time line, was also a great tribute to the late Leonard Nimoy. Spoiler: I can also say that Sulu gay does not hurt the birth of his daughter, so relax nerds lol. The late Anton Yelchin (Fright Night) gets the most he got to do in any Star Trek film as Chekov as well.

Idris Elba (Luther) gets a mostly forgettable villain to play but at least he was an original villain, unlike Khan. Sofia Boutella kicks ass though as an alien allie named Jaylah.

I wouldn't even mind if Justin Lin returns as director over JJ. Since JJ has shown with Super 8, Into Darkness and Force Awakens that he is better at making tributes than original movies.

JJ's part 4 would probably have Kirk looking for whales, while searching for Spock. Then part 5 would have Spock's brother who is on a mission to find God lol.

The first two directed JJ Abrams and I absolutely loved them. Now when I heard that Justin Lin would be taking over the project over JJ I was skeptical. Those worries are put to rest because Justin has directed an awesome film. The action he brings over from Fast and Furious translates very well into Star Trek. The costume, makeup and CGI is once again flawless. The writing by Simon Pegg was smart, interesting, and funny. The cast once again does a tremendous job on being these characters especially Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. Idris Elba's character "Krall" is very interesting. He brings his very good acting and toughness to the character to bring him to life. Even though the characters motivations are unclear until the end. Expand

Yes, it's got hundreds of millions in technical cinematics but it's all undone by the juvenile nature of the imperative: Captain Kirk et al must always prevail in the end, no matter how implausible or just plain stupid. These can never be outstanding/classic films because of that - there's no element of genuine surprise. Star Trek follows the same plot formula every single time, the only thing that changes is the superficial layers of plot and nods to all facets of diversity. This type of entertainment can only appeal to the pre-teen/teen brain that hasn't developed sufficient capacity to critique. It's a shameless yet surefire money grab for that demographic's money - it never fails, but it never advances the art either. Yet, the writers ultimately know this. Near the end, Kirk even utters, "We change, we have to, or we spend the rest of our lives fighting the same battles." Amazing, hopefully that realization informs subsequent Trek films. Expand

The characters once again shine in their roles and performances. This proves just how far the crew have grown to work with each other and move on from their previous conflicts. The only character that felt weak to me was the villain, Krawl, who had a weak motivation and felt very generic. The special effects shine out as the new worlds, spaceships, and vehicles look so spectacular. The new alien races look good with memorable character designs, and adds originality to the franchise. The soundtrack is also the weakest the the trilogy. While I like it just fine, some of the pieces just don't fit in with whats going on. Besides that, it works and sounds good. Action scenes are also pretty fun, with them being shot well, and tension added to make it more entertaining. Overall while not the best in the trilogy, it's still an epic film, and I would recommend it. Expand

Star-trek's sheer repetitions of fast speaking scenes, cliches situations, quips and characters made it a personally painful experience to watch.

In the end you can not hide the fact that Star-Trek baseline is 50 years old, based upon a captain's hierarchical crew and a sadistic will to sacrifice every member of his crew in gratuitous scenes of violence but for 5 caricatural characters stuck in their assigned pre-defined personality.

Sure, the modern declination is full of good ideas and impressive CGI.
This latest iteration brings lots of ideas from Avatar, Game of Thrones, science fiction tropes like the grey goo and funny situational one liners.

But all of it is still stuck in the Star-Trek dogma, where nothing changes and hundreds of dead crews are forgotten in the blink of an eye, where any scientific materiality is drowned into ad nauseam speeches of mumbo jumbo to justify any scenaristic whim.

Star Trek Beyond is an impressive fast paced action movie that is sadly boringly conservative in the storytelling it offers.

The first film in 2009 was one of the year's best pictures and Benedict Cumberbatch was a breath if fresh air in the not as good sequel Into Darkness. With Beyond we perhaps have the weakest entry in the new trilogy but that isn't to say it isn't still a decent film. It brings back all the old characters and teams them with the member of the crew they haven't quite spent a lot of screen time with. The film does this well and despite spending a lot of time apart, the crew still fizzle when they get their moments together. Idris Elba is the next actor in the line of villains and he plays Krall well beneath the heavy prosthetics. The only downside with this character is that his pan is rather bleak and contrived. Justin Lin directs well but it does miss the Abrams blueprint. Simon Pegg and Doug Jung bring a decent enough script to the table but some of the dialogue could have been sharpened or even delivered better. This isn't as dark as the previous entries but it is a solid addition. Let's just see if these actors continue on the Enterprise's adventures or if this trilogy is enough. As long as the filmmakers don't make a film weaker than this one then all should be ok. Enjoyable if not the greatest Enterprise outing. Expand

When theirs rescue mission failed...

It's not like I'm a big fan of 'Star Wars', so I disliked it. I have seen many space adventure films, but I never felt this series so interesting. I enjoyed some of the 'Star Trek' films though. I know this sequel is not good the previous ones, but for me this look okay than those. Because it was so simple, particularly story wise, and the rest of the film was action and adventure.

No offense, but this series is like the collection of the rejections from other franchises. I mean, look at the cast, most of them are comedians and some of them are the category two actors and the rest are, I don't know what they are, bur decent actors. But these films pulled off successfully at the box office. Not a big impact like the recent 'Star Wars' film or any Marvel's films, but quite an impressive figure knowing the above fact I stated.

From the Taiwanese director who made four 'Fast and Furious' films, handled his best for this. This film tells the story of the captain James Kirk, who leads his ship and crew to a rescue mission to a distant planet where some alien race who had stranded. But when they reach their destination, an unknown space army takes them by surprise and they too take a refuse on the same planet. From there how they plan to escape and to learn who were those attackers, all comes in the next half.

This id full of action adventure. The story was little, but quite neatly developed characters, I mean the new ones with some good stunt sequences. As usual, there's no complaint about the graphics. I mean for the casual viewing, but who knows if you carefully look for the flaws, you might get a few. I suggest you to watch it just for an entertainment, but it might fail to satisfy the die-hard fans of 'Star Trek'. I think overall, it is not a bad film, even the two hours long is not an issue due to the good pace. 7/10

Like so many franchises, it’s more concerned with repeating a successful formula than going boldly where no “Star Trek” has gone before.” Star trek should be more than a spectacle yet it’s not, and though this film is better than the second one in the rebooted series it is still a film you can turn your brain off and watch. I wish the film would have been more about science and discovery, learning about new civilizations, merging peace amongst races etc. instead we get another film where one race wants to destroy everyone else with limited reasoning. Peace isn’t created without completely destroying the enemy. Roger ended his review with the following “The new movie essentially intends to reboot the franchise with younger characters and carry on as before. The movie deals with narrative housekeeping. Perhaps the next one will engage these characters in a more challenging and devious story, one more about testing their personalities than re-establishing them.” I got to say the film is entertaining to a point but the characters are the same through three films now. http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/star-trek-2009 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yet another brain-dead Star Splosions movie with vacuous characters and a fatuous plot, topped of with a ridiculous Beastie Boys cannon in case you thought it wasn't vapid enough yet.

Total and utter garbage.

That's three bullets in the head for star trek.

Surely it must be dead now so please stop shooting it. Even I am beginning to feel sorry for it.

Unlike its predecessor, Beyond adopts a rather light tone and funnier lines along the way, and feels a little more like Hollywood (not that it is always a bad thing).
Not that it was as good as the first one, but I enjoyed this film. I can imagine watching it again and it has quite a bit of entertainment value. The plot and characters were good as well. Also, why would I forget about the villain destroying the ship toward the beginning (which leads me to the overall problems in this movie)?
The scene I was referring to would have been much more powerful toward the end where it could have signaled the height of the conflict and their test of teamwork. Instead, they took the standard Hollywood blockbuster route, where the characters really only take a beating at the beginning and come back through the rest of the film. It also took a little too long to find the plot. I am perhaps missing some of the other minor problems with Beyond, but those were the ones I needed to cover. With all that said, I'll grant it a seal of acknowledgement.

I saw the positive reviews, and I don’t know what I was thinking having any hope from the director or F&F whose target audience is high school drop outs. This isn’t even 2nd grade science text book level sci-fi. There is nothing new. Nothing seems remotely plausible, alien ships destroyed by music?? Motorcycles in space?? Seriously??!! The alien ship looked totally CG, Krull is a total cliché. The level of suspension of disbelief required is so astounding, I think you probably need to be on drugs to enjoy this – which Justin Lin is counting on. I am disappointed because I really liked JJ’s 2009 version, which was extremely entertaining. This however was just lame, feel made by like it was made by committee. I couldn’t figure out why the Army of Liberal Arts Majoring Critics loved this movie so much, but now it is obvious. It promotes Hollywood’s values so they overlook its faults. I really question Hollywood’s need to rub their politics in my face in one of the opening sequences. Yes, I agree with you!! But I don’t need to be lectured about homosexual equality in my Star Trek movie, because I know that is what you are doing and it is extremely distracting. Might I suggest you make a separate movie about Asian Homosexuals raising a girl and all the discrimination they endure and let me for a second escape CNN for a moment and let me enjoy a star trek movie, something Hollywood seems incapable of creating anymore. The action is intense as well, and the special effects are amazing. My main problem with this movie is that it feels inconsequential, it could have done more exploring the planet(s) it took place on and could have maybe shown how they had more of an impact, but I think most people can get over this. I also would have liked to see how they are going to continue the series. I wish there were a bit more indication, but regardless this is definitely a buy on blue ray this holiday and I would say I recommend it for any fans of si-f movies with fun action and good writing. We Underestimated The J.J. Alliance (Justin Lin & Jacob Abrams)

"Beyond" was not the kind of sequel we expected. Despite excessive unease by fanatics since the announcement of Justin Lin as captain of the USS Enterprise - which resided in that he could exceed his own limits with a franchise as long-lived as perpetual, - Lin delivers a breath of uplifting and new air to the vigorous reboot that J.J. Abrams began in 2009, but the film feels like an extensive TV episode focused on the memorable action sequences, neglecting the primordial which is an unforgettable argument, as well as the wasted talent of Elba; it seems that they leave unfinished threads of the story, substituting such defect with an action scene. Although it promises renovations and inventions profitable for the saga, the film ends up as a summer film more with big-budget.

The Enterprise is dispatched on a rescue mission after an escape pod emerged in the space, in the middle of a nebula. Giddily, the crew goes to the scene, in where, unfortunately, turns into an ambush by small ships similar to a swarm, that perforate and destroy the ship Enterprise, aggressively. Without weapons nor defenses, the crew is forced to leave the beloved ship, falling into a desolate planet called Altamid. Now, the team will have to survive, restore the spacecraft, solve their personal problems and combat the villain, Krall - who searches for a relic called an Abronath that Kirk had obtained for a failed diplomatic mission - to keep the Star Trek universe stable.

What role does the third installment in the Star Trek universe? Tabulating similarities and differences present in the film, "Beyond" approximates to installments #5 ("The Final Frontier") and #9 ("Insurrection") due to its particular autonomy and beyond gigantic effects and budgets, they were installments that narrated certain experiences of the crew, nevertheless, this time, the purpose is to weave one new central story interconnected with the sub-plots of others.

The mandate of Lin takes a detour from the prominent influence that Abrams had by "Star Wars"; Lin opts for a world more comical and fabulous, Pegg and Jun were crucial to support not only the new atmosphere with a different script and not very practical as seen before in "Into Darkness", also, it is noticeable an improvement in the massive and apocalyptic destruction of the NCC-1701 that, although , does not generate the same impact that would obtain the annihilation of the Millennium Falcon , but the comparisons between these juxtaposed universes are unnecessary.

To some extent, the longevity of the movie series is due to their well-argued villains, spreading panic among audience since their first appearances, crossing from Khan played by Ricardo Montalban in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" to Benedict Cumberbatch in "Into Darkness". Now, the time is for a convincing male actor, nothing less than Idris Elba. With a career worthy of being applauded, he has joined to Trek universe buried under all the prosthetics - fatal decision, I realize until the ending, when I saw his face -. Krall is the antagonist, a villain with weak and unconvincing motivations, who does give nothing strong to the simple plot, an unacceptable waste of talent and potential, the same happened with Oscar Issac in "X-Men: Apocalypse"

Besides the addition of Elba, an attractive and fascinating character is joined to the team. The newcomer, Sofia Boutella, who will return to use layers of makeup on the reboot of "The Mummy" (2017) to the universe of monsters from Universal and who participated in "Kingsman: The Secret Service" , her biggest success so far, she is Jaylah, a survivor who took refuge on the USS Franklin after the attack of Krall. Suggestive and promising future for Jaylah, a new member is equal to new adventures.

Our former members of the crew, who have been the authors of the renovation of the saga - involved for seven years - continue to growing. The Kirk/Spock/McCoy trio are more attractive and spontaneous than previous movies, Pegg continues moving forward with Scotty, Uhura is a beacon of light and all others persist in the search for their self-realization, the new crew no longer has any reason to "envy" original crew. Sadly, we have missed two big guys, not only in the Star Trek family, but two great human beings. Our Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) died by a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the last year and, fatally, Anton Yelchin (Pavel Chekov) died by forceful traumatic choking due to an accident car in this same year, however, they have only disappeared of way physical, since continue alive and latent in the heart of the universe Star Trek, masters, rest in peace.

"Beyond", faithful to the original saga, delivers a succulent film for the Trekkies, however, does it neglecting the consistency in its story and some of its characters. Supported by a mythology that expands more and more, "Star Trek Beyond" is the best in the franchise, even though, the word "best" is hypothetical.

This comment does not apply to Simon Pegg, but he may have had a bigger stake in the game since he also worked on the script. Best of all, though, was Sofia Boutella as Jaylah, and I wondered why Krall had so much energy and was so interesting, until I realized it was the great Idris Elba. This movie has it's basic action plot but it feels like it's made with more heart and knowledge of the Star Trek history than previous movies in this rebooted series.

After the initial action scene, the movie takes a little time to get you up to date with the crew's lives and it was a welcome change to previous movies that were hyperactive. Kirk isn't running everywhere like a headless chicken, he's more somber and calmly authoritative. I didn't get all the old school references since I'm not a trekkie, but they don't hit you on the head with them like in the awful Into Darkness. And the motorcycle from the trailers makes more sense in the movie.

This was a positive experience among all the bad summer movies.

Star Trek Beyond is the first of the 3 newest Star Trek films I felt the old Star Trek magic coming back. Read some detractors that feels its not like Star Wars movies, which show how much they know about Star Trek (that is nothing at all).

ThereThe third Star Trek in the rebooted franchise is consistently mediocre. Several characters, important environments, and other significant portions of the plot are largely insignificant, and the action plays the biggest role out of all. There is little sense of wonder, dread, or satisfaction throughout the journey and at the conclusion of the film.

Chris Pine is yet again fantastic as James T. Kirk; he brings so much to his role and to the film as a whole. The remaining characters are static placeholders of their character descriptions and the representations in earlier movies. The villain is par for the course, and even though there is a fantastic actor behind the mask he has only the one role to fill.

The CGI is top-notch, but the action can be quite eye-rolling at times. The score is copy-paste of the previous two films; this isn't a negative, but nothing has been added to increase emotional impact.

I found myself in the third act without noticing or caring, and the penultimate scenes did not make me feel that I needed to watch the first two acts to notice new aspects or care more about how the film finished.

The plot is poorly-written plot with silly, meaningless dialogue. Scene after scene that make little to no sense, and many instances that should've ended with everyone dying.

Confusing character motivations. For example why did they decide to go into the nebula on the word of a character they just met, and with the Federation's best ship and full crew?

Cliche upon cliche - characters explaining things for no reason, good guy letting bad guy deliver a speech in a key moment, etc.

Completely wasted villain who looked menacing but was 100% one-dimensional and barely made any sense after his motivation was explained.

The first re-imagined Star Trek was actually pretty good - a decent mix of sci-fi and action, but this film is absolute garbage.

Star Trek Beyond has flaws in the screenplay. Here are a couple that military men and women will spot right away:

1. Their spaceship is the U.S.S. Enterprise. Now guess what: the U.S.S. stands for "United States Ship" in nautical parlance. But we are led to believe the Enterprise is merely part of the Federation Starfleet. If that is the case, the U.S.S. designation should be dropped.

2. The writers for Star Trek are (usually) careful when they assign rank designations to the characters in the movie. The commanding officer of a starship, for example is a captain (remember Captain Picard in the TV series?). A captain in the navy has four stripes on the cuff of his sleeve, and Picard had 4 buttons on his collar (close enough). The officer just below the captain has the rank of commander (remember Commander Riker in series 2 - 7?) A navy commander has three stripes on the cuff of his sleeve, and Riker had three buttons on his collar (again, close enough).

Now to Star Trek Beyond. Early in the movie Captain Kirk docks the Enterprise at a huge star base to consult with his superior about an upcoming mission. His superior--a woman--holds the rank of commodore. That is the equivalent of a one-star admiral, just one rank above captain. But now things start to get messy. The commodore says she will consult with "the council" to get Kirk promoted to vice admiral. Huh? A vice admiral has three stars and is senior to all commodores and rear admirals. How is it that Kirk can simply jump from captain to three-star admiral?

I loved Wraith of Khan and while this might not be up to level as that movie I did thoroughly enjoy this movie. It held a very easy to follow plot with a lot of elements of what happens when you end up losing hope from abandonment and when you lose your place in the world. Where do you belong and what do you do when you lost your way.

This was a movie where I loved the themes it presented here and offered a lot of good action to go along with it.

I won't spoil anything, but it has some MAJOR callbacks to the original series. So any Trekkies who loves the first TV series, you should really go see this. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Possibly the worst film I've ever seen. Weapon of mass destruction , why, what did it actually do that his ships couldn't do. Also the rescue of the crew was like an episode of power rangers? All the bad guys were at lunch apparently from their guardless jail. Blocked the bad guy ships with a hundred year old ship coming out of the water because they were heading....where exactly...absolutely ridiculous. Air vent for the entire city and scotty just comes in and takes over. This was a great film if your eight years old. embarrassingly bad. and Simon Pegg wrote it, literally hundreds perhaps thousands of great star trek screenplays out there and they make this muck. will i go on? Jayla fighting the man that killed her father? really, I actually never noticed this guy in the movie at all, was i supposed to feel something?Ah well good job they found that working one hundred year old invisible ship that the original owners just forgot about. As a long time ST fan who enjoyed the first two reboots well enough, all I can say about this one is I think we've tolerated these reboots long enough. It's time for a real Star Trek movie and not the cash grab reboot universe.

Also, in general, I really enjoy the science fiction/action/adventure genres so it was no surprise that I enjoyed Star Trek: Beyond. Even though the ending is predictable and there are a few plot-logic flaws, I enjoyed the action, the dialogue and the acting of the main characters. I have watched a few Star Trek: The Original Series episodes, as well as a few of Star Trek: The Next Generation Episodes, and I feel like this movie was just like an extended episode from the series. Overall, I recommend you give it a try. On a side note: I watched Star Trek: Beyond during opening weekend, on a Sunday, but waited until now to post my review. Expand

And I love Star Trek, so I really wanted to like it, but seriously, my friend and I both left the theater totally bewildered and our minds were just completely blown from all the awfulness. Even the action fell flat, because it was horrendously edited and incoherent at best, which made it very tiresome to watch. And the lack of visual continuity was a problem in general, because it was (too) often hard to tell where they were exactly, how they got there or how much time had passed - not that it mattered, because almost nothing really made sense anyway thanks to the stunningly atrocious writing. It was just one insane train wreck of a movie. Trust me, don't pay to watch this. Expand
