There’s a brisk sense of invention to the film, and it feels like it is breathlessly told, something that is due in large part to Justin Lin, who has been developing a very particular approach to blockbuster filmmaking. Yes, he’s fine with the big action mayhem that is par for the course with these films, but he understands that the thing that makes any of it interesting is making sure the audience really enjoys spending time with these characters.

I didn't have very high hopes for the third installment of the Star Trek reboot as i didn't enjoy the second film (the first was pretty good) but i was pleasantly surprised by the engaging story, new and interesting characters and of course the great visual and special effects.

More Star Wars than Star Trek and this was a big disappointment. First rate production, good acting, convoluted storyline that is difficult to follow. Close up camera shots with shaky camera and scenes flashing by in a blur. A lot of shootem up and explosions.

Such a poor movie, completely lost anything that made Star Trek good in the first place. Instead this could be any space based film another Star Wars spin off? None of the subtle ambiguity of the original series, just black n white, good vs evil.
