The visual style of the film made it come alive like a comic book. DC should learn lessons from this animation in order to be successful. Yes. Cultural diversity, interesting twists, expert voice actors, different narratives, etc., all of them are trying to make it a masterpiece and it will be. Although I don't see it as the best work of Spider-Man, because there is another movie called No Way Home, which completely upset me and It dealt more with the misfortunes of Peter Parker. But we are extremely satisfied with this. This movie is a blessing for us fans and critics that we should appreciate. Expand

This is a work of art. I think the story is incredible as well, and now that I've seen it three times, there are so many subtle symbolic images across the plot that make the payoff all the more satisfying. Personally, I think the climax of the film is not when Miles wins, but rather when Miles jumps off the side of that building and we get that jaw-dropping, show-stopping shot of him falling upside down to the night city and swinging through it with confidence. 10/10 no questions asked. That Spider-man was able to damage the collider but not before it breaks down the boundary between universes - he's killed in the process. Miles has to learn to become the new Spider-man while Spider-people from other universes come over to stop Kingpin running the collider again. The storyline and animation is interesting and fresh at the beginning but gradually loses its shine. > Related media: I have watched all Marvel Cinematic Universe films with Spider-man featured. I have not read the comics or watched the TV shows.
> Positives: > 1. The story is interesting and fresh, with new characters from other universes.
> 2. The animation style is new (for me) and well done. Negatives:
> 1. However, after a while, the animation loses its shine. Most characters are not drawn beautifully, particularly Kingpin. The 'glitch' caused by the multiverse affecting each other is also represented in a style that looks poor to me.
> 2. The fast parts of some animations can be too much for some people, including myself.
> 3. Towards the second half of the film, it just felt frustrating, tiring and not that impressive. > How would the different age groups rate this: > Children: Good > Teens: Excellent > Young adults: Excellent
> Medium-age adults: Good > Older adults: Good. > My rating: 3/5 (no half scores). Save your money and watch it on TV.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie definitely has quite an original idea by having 6 Spider-Mans from different universes get put into one and the animation is amazing although I guess we kinda have to blame this movie for Marvel's obsession with the Multiverse. My only big complaint is that I feel like Prowler should've been the big bad rather than Kingpin as it would've been a much more climactic final battle if Miles was fighting the person he has always trusted in life rather than some rich guy who wants his family back. I honestly just hope the second one is even better Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a very interesting film but also an amazing one at the same time. I love how the animation looks and feels like a comic book without taking us out of the movie and shows how completely misguided and bizarre the 2003 Hulk movie was with its use of comic book panels because while this sucks you into the film and makes you interested in it because of its use of comic book panels the 2003 hulk movie just makes you confused. I think this is true for two reasons one this film follows the rules of comic book panels unlike that movie and more importantly I feel like this is one of those things that can work in animation but not live-action. but it is more than how this movie looks, the comedies amazing the actions, spectacular and the soundtrack is awesome. And besides that, this film knows how to make you feel sad and happy with things like the Peter B. Parker plotline and what the rest of the Spider-men lost. It is also engaging enough so it doesn't have to rely on cheap tricks to keep you invested and entertained because of the aforementioned amazing soundtrack and humor and the fact that you are engaged in the story and characters enough to still be entertained by it even during non-action scenes. Now fast-forward to today with the second movie coming up, I decide to watch it again to prepare myself for that movie and honestly, this movie has aged so beautifully it's remarkable. The first thing it does to make you excited is subvert your expectations when you see some characters, you don't initially think too much about them but then when they're all of a sudden so much more than just random people, it manages to capture you off guard because you're used to talking to people that have no impact and when it turns out they do, they stay with you long after the movie will end. The main cast of characters are all excellent and have amazing and diverse personalities to ensure everyone sticks out and helps you remember everyone so well to help drive the story to 11 and stop it from feeling generic. But also, Miles Morales here might be one of the greatest MCU characters to exist with how he's written and the performance given by the actor is nothing short of amazing. The soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks I've heard recently for a movie with how it manages to capture the feeling of hopelessness, being at your lowest point, humor, and excitement so well and never lets go of it. The low frame-rate might look concerning, but with how it compliments the art-style and camera, it's actually not so bad when you look at it in motion. Speaking of the art-style, it's easily the best part about the movie with how gorgeous it is thanks to the varied color palette, bouncy sound effects, and the beautiful animation due to the low frame rate. The easter eggs are simply amazing and are a treat for Spider-Man fans like the Insomniac 2018 suit. Overall, I loved this movie from the top of my heart and has only heightened my excitement for the sequel so much more. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

I wish I had watched a good movie when this came out like Call of duty modern warfare. The animation is so bad and who is this Miles guy I keep hearing about? I can't believe people wasted their money on such a bad movie. The only good part was the credits, because I like reading. Gwen Stacy is wierd. Peter Parker is wierd. Spider Ham is wierd. Anime Spider man is anime. The only way you could like this movie is if you were promised a hot fudge sundae after watching it because then you would get use out of it. I watched this movie with an 18 year old and he said it was good. He also said Puss in Boots 2 was good so I wouldn't trust his opinion. If you want to watch a good animated movie go watch Shrek the Third, Them Emoji Movie or Ralph Breaks the Internet. All cinematic masterpieces. Expand

This film takes everything that we love about Spider-Man and creates a fresh and exciting new story that is both visually stunning and emotionally resonant.

The animation style is unlike anything we've seen before, with a blend of 3D and 2D animation that brings the comic book pages to life. The attention to detail in every frame is astounding, from the character designs to the vibrant colors and backgrounds.

The story is equally impressive, with a perfect balance of humor, action, and heart. The film introduces us to a diverse array of Spider-People from different dimensions, and the chemistry between them is fantastic. Miles Morales, the film's main character, is a wonderful addition to the Spider-Man mythos, and his journey to becoming a hero is both inspiring and relatable.

The voice acting is top-notch, with each actor bringing their character to life with nuance and depth. The soundtrack is also a standout, with a mix of hip-hop and orchestral music that perfectly complements the action onscreen.

Overall, "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" is a tour de force of animation and storytelling. It's a film that can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages, and it sets a new standard for superhero movies. This is easily one of the best films of 2018, and a must-see for anyone who loves Spider-Man or great filmmaking. 10/10.

It is the heroes journey of Miles Morales becoming Spiderman and find his place in life. Of cause it is set in an alternative universe with some changes and garnered with a lot of Spiderman. I like the character focus, their developments, interactions and humor. Also it has some serious scenes and hard lessons to be learned. As sidenote: Neither humor or seriousness harm the other (Hallmark of good writing). The story starts in New York with the teenager Miles Morales. He struggles with expectations and what path to take in life. The best help is his uncle Aaron who understands him best. When he takes him to an abandoned subway station to promote Miles graffiti aka artistic skills Miles is bitten by a spider. With this the story starts. I praise the story. It is brilliantly written and reaches an immersion level not many movies do. You can understand all characters motivations and feel their pain, struggles and resolve. Also like I said the character development is superb and not only for Miles. I should praise the writers and director for this. Then there are the battles. Those are amazing and intense. I use the phrase “You feel the impact “often and here it is really fitting. The animations are superb too. The style, animations and effects create an enjoyable experience. I think those will age well too and still be praised in a decade. The soundtrack is probably even better and enhances the atmosphere. More important even are the voice actors and we have a flawless performance. I hope all those return for a sequel. Overall this is a no brainer for Spiderman and Marvel fans. It is no coincidence that this movie won a lot of awards. I give a 10/10 as I was fully entertained and loved the movie. A must see and maybe even for no Marvel fans that love character development / heroes journeys. Expand

Special effects are just stunning (with minor let downs and variations in my opinion), characters are moving and deep. The pace is okay, sometimes a bit too 'cartoony' and speedy for me. The different Spider (Wo)men are really attractive, interesting and varied. The bad guys are quite unidimensional and unoriginal (the movie doesn't even explain how Kingpin is so badass, resistant and strong). The soundtrack is as terrific as groovy. The scenario kind of falls apart several times but the movie parfectly manages to make us forget those points. In overall I think that the movie benefits from a gorgeous and highly compelling evolution. Expand

It's a ham-handed "diversity" abomination. And massively overrated.
Black spider man, spider woman, anime-lolita spider girl, female Octopus.
The story was nothing special undeserving of such high rates

The animation features a new and revolutionary style: mixing 2D and 3D, with comic book strokes. This makes the movie very good, but of course the story, the main character development is impressive, albeit simple.

One of the controversial things about this movie is the frame rate, it's done at 12 fps instead of the usual 24. The filmmakers did that to make the graphics pop out. The emphasis was on the illustrations instead of the buttery feel of fluid animation, making this more comic-book like than any other animated movie (even superhero movie). This is called animating 'on twos'. The part where suddenly Miles is animated on 'ones', is easy to tell: His battle with Kingpin. Suddenly he's slick and experienced, he stopped being a gawky teenager. It's a glorious and subtle moment. Expand

It’s unlike anything I’ve seen from an American animated film before, it was fantastic to see! The story was really great too with a lot of heart and lots of twists and turns! I do think that there probably were too many characters in the movie, but that’s the only issue I have with it. This is a must-watch for any superhero fan and fans of animation in general! Expand

No one can accept Dick Grayson as Batman, Calvin Ellis as Superman, Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel, Wally West as The Flash - the list goes on. And Spider-Man is one of, if not the most popular and likeable superheroes out there. So in such a condition replacing our beloved Peter Parker with some new random guy could have been a disastrous idea. But not only did this movie take the risk, we're glad it did.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the kind of a superhero animated movie I wanted to see - one with traditional animation done in the style of stereoscopic 3D, with continuous symbols of glitches. Personally I consider watching two superhero movies to be the most connected with watching a comic - Zack Snyder's Justice League and this. And out of the two ZSJL feels more like some painting more than an actual comic, so this one takes the cake for it. The speech bubbles, the panel swipes, the colour splashes; everything make this movie look like watching a Spider-Man comic come to life.
Personally I'm all in for the diversity in the characters. Normally I am annoyed when diversity is their only trait. When such a character is added just for the sake of existing, it just makes it look like a wasted effort, and what makes worse is that we can't even point it out without upsetting some people. Miles Morales, however, absolutely does not feel the same. The kind of a person he is, the way he turns into Spider-Man and meets the other heroes to learn more about who and what he is, everything seems to come out naturally.
The story is very well thought out, which is also another reason why it feels so natural. If I were given to introduce a character and bid farewell to the renowned one, I could have never done it as well as this did. It introduced many different types of Spideys, made us feel emotions for all of them, had us sympathise with the bad guys all the while making us laugh and cheer at the fights. See this is exactly what I'd want from a comic book movie, especially a superhero one. It should not just be, but actually feel like we are immersed into the environment, even though it is an animated movie.
My favourite character in this movie was Spider-Noir. He was hilarious as a detective, always talking about everything like it is supposed to be a mystery. He also looked cool, so there's also a plus to that. Then I also liked Miles Morales himself. Whatever the movie was wanting me to feel for him, I did so. As he builds his character development from being a clumsy teenager to the most powerful Spidey, it was a spectacle to watch.
I really wish to see more of these. Miles Morales is already one of my favourite characters now, so even if in future he slowly replaces Peter Parker as the face of Spider-Man, I won't feel bad about it. The recent PS5 game, if I hadn't watched the movie, wouldn't have received my interest no matter however good it was, since I would never accept anyone else as my Spider-Man. It really seems to be a great time to be a Spidey-fan. I hope it lasts long.

I can see why this is highly regarded, especially if you have a connection as a comic reader. Alas, I do not, but I still had a good time watching this.

It was cool seeing every department of the story come together, while the animation is definitely one of its big plus points - I enjoyed seeing it. The voice cast all do respectable jobs too. I have no issues with this film, to be honest. I just guess there isn't anything I love about it either.

Shameik Moore is good in the lead, while Jake Johnson supports competently in his role. Hailee Steinfeld, Nicolas Cage and Kathryn Hahn, as well as a few others, stick out too. Away from the already mentioned, I also like the music - having already known about "Sunflower".

Evidently it didn't connect to me, someone who has zero attachment to the source material, massively. That doesn't, though, change the fact that I did find enjoyment with 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' and I would certainly recommend it.

I've lost my touch with most super hero films, but this one takes the cake with it's hilarious script writing, attention to detail in symbolism pertaining to Miles' character development, and all the different unique animation styles flowing naturally together. One of the major factors that falls flat for me has to be the story, I just felt like it was slightly rushed and could've had more potential with its characters, especially the villains. Miles I felt could've shown more development with his offhand relationship with his father instead of just "avoiding" him or accidentally running into him as Spider-Man, but that's just me; the moment of when they're having a heart to heart while he's tied up in front of the door would've hit much harder. All in all a great film and definitely recommend checking this out if you love Spider-Man, I've always had a soft spot for this super hero in particular because of how relatable he is as a kid to me rather than people like Iron Man and such, and Into the Spider verse nails it out of the park with just that! That is a statement you will hear uttered in almost every form of social media, amongst superhero fans and casual moviegoers alike, and whilst this phrase has been completely oversaturated, I personally believe there is some truth to it. Despite the fact that generally, hearing endless praise for a movie makes me lose interest, I still find myself coming back and enjoying it just as much every time. There are just a few things about the film that somehow appeal to virtually everyone, and although it’s impossible to nail down every aspect of its brilliance, I’ll certainly try to cover as much as I can. The first thing that you’ll notice about Into The Spider Verse is the extremely characteristic animation. The colour pallet is distinct and varied, sufficiently distinguishing itself from every other animated film. Words appear on screen to place emphasis on certain phrases, to represent Miles’s thoughts and even as onomatopoeia, all to reinforce the films comic book style. Coupled with some exceptionally sharp dialogue and unique gimmicks, this can allow for plenty of humor and/or make the faster-paced moments far more visceral. In most animation fast movements are masked by blurry motion, however to avoid this the animators of Into The Spider Verse create an effect of 'chromatic aberration', in which expertly placed lines are implemented to slightly distort the image. This is also used to focus the far away background images, and it works spectacularly, giving them far more vibrance. Thanks to the 1988 classic Akira, the majority of animated films now use 24 frames per second in order to make the animation look smoother and more free flowing. Whilst Peter Parker is indeed animated in 24FPS, Miles begins his journey in 12FPS, but as he becomes more adept with his abilities he gradually makes the transition into 24FPS, a subtle but much appreciated touch. Another wonderful method used to express the significance of Miles’s journey is Daniel Pemberton’s incredible soundtrack, the most obvious aspect of which is the repeated use of hip-hop tracks to represent Miles Morales’s identity. It’s no secret that identity and expectations are the main themes intertwined in the narrative, in fact it’s more or less shouted at you. Miles is conflicted about who he really is, forced to essentially choose between his loving but strict father, and his free-willed irresponsible uncle Aaron. The intense amount of pressure he then has to deal with after he gains these extraordinary abilities only exacerbates the situation, making it harder for him to balance his responsibilities and everyday life. Pemberton repeats two key leitmotifs throughout the film. The first plays pretty much whenever any reference to spider man is made, therefore representing the mantle. The second, is symbolic of Miles’s journey, and the challenges that he overcomes. The reason why I wanted to discuss these pieces of music, are because in the infamous 'What’s up danger' scene where Miles has finally grasped his full potential, Pemberton cleverly implements these two leitmotifs, whilst also playing a hip-hop track. This beautiful and ingenious scene highlights to our subconscious that Miles has finally discovered his identity and accepted the mantle of spider man, thus his journey is complete. You might be wondering why I’ve chosen to discuss these debatably minor aspects of the film at length instead of the story, and there is a good reason for that. Whilst I think the actual plot is... serviceable, it is my belief that the story is told better through artistic means, and should be viewed as such rather holding the flaws of the narrative against it. The message is pretty straightforward, although it’s arguable that the film should be commended for actually including any themes as opposed to adhering to the norms of generic blockbusters. Other than Miles (and debatably his father), the characters are all simple archetypes (but don’t get me wrong it works perfectly for the film). There are even a few minor plot holes and continuity errors that are pretty easy to dismiss. What I’m getting at is that it doesn’t matter that the story is nothing special. To put it simply, it just WORKS. Don’t get me wrong there are some exceptional moments that resonated with me especially. The death of Peter Parker at the start bears striking resemblance to the death of Optimus Prime at the beginning to the 1986 Transformers movie, a film which was a big part of my childhood. The subtle jabs at the genre’s cliches such as "you’ve got 24 hours" are much appreciated. Miles and Peter’s relationship is always enjoyable to watch, as they have a wonderful on-screen chemistry, but unfortunately I can’t really say the same for the inclusion of Spider Ham and Penni Parker (too cheesy for me). The premise of the movie is simply "Bitten by a radioactive spider in the subway, BrooklynI've watched this film around when it came out but decided to rewatch it again recently just because of the new Spider-Man: Miles Morales game. The premise of the movie is simply "Bitten by a radioactive spider in the subway, Brooklyn teenager Miles Morales suddenly develops mysterious powers that transform him into the one and only Spider-Man. When he meets Peter Parker, he soon realizes that many others share his special, high-flying talents. Miles must now use his newfound skills to battle the evil Kingpin, a hulking madman who can open portals to other universes and pull different versions of Spider-Man into our world". I absolutely adored it when it came out but do I still feel that way after rewatching it?

Firstly, the animation style and 3D models are absolutely amazing! While I do love the Pixar style of animation, this comic book style of animation was such a breath of fresh air in the animated film department. I also appreciate a lot of the aesthetic choices such as having this shaky movement instead of fluid which further makes it feel like a comic book come to life. The action scenes are also animated really well and are an absolute blast to watch as well. Clearly, a lot of thought went into this and it clearly shows in the movie. Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) is a great main lead. He isn't perfect and is actually very flawed with them making a fair amount of what would be frustrating mistakes. However, the directors succeed in still making us root for him as we can see how much he really wants to pull through for the team. Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson) is another great Spiderman in this movie who is a mentor figure for Miles. He is a person who has been doing this spiderman business for over 20 years and has a lot of problems with his Peter Parker life such as his divorce with Mary Jane. Due to this, he is quite neglectful of Miles but he goes through his own character arc that is done very well. His chemistry with Miles is one of the things that really shine in this movie. Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld) is the third Spider character that appears in the movie and is mostly there to be the competent and supportive one in the group for Miles. The other three Spider characters Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage), Peni Parker (Kimiko Glenn) and Peter Porker (John Mulaney) are also all very distinct and different in personality which is perfectly converted despite small screentime. The cast is also phenomenal, everyone does a great job, especially Shameik Moore and Jake Johnson. There is also some other stellar casting like Brian Tyree Henry as Mile's dad, Mahershala Ali as Mile's Uncle Aaron, Chris Pine as Peter Parker of Mile's universe, Zoë Kravitz as Mary Jane, Kathryn Hahn as Doc Octopus, Liev Schreiber as Kingpin and even Oscar Issac for a mysterious role that I won't spoil. It's an all-star cast and even though some have small roles, Sony still went through with casting big known actors. They all do a great job. The excellent soundtrack further elevates this movie. Every time the Prowler is in the movie there is this horn in the soundtrack that makes him seem more threatening. Additionally, there are some pop, R&B, rap songs within the movie that all fit really well and gives more identity to the movie and characters. The story is simple yet intriguing enough to keep the audience engaged. It introduced the complex multiverse idea but doesn't overcomplicate it to make it distracting. There are multiple villains but the director makes sure the main focus of villains is Kingpin which is a good idea as multiple focus villains will make the plot feel convoluted. There is also excellent dialogue which is thanks to Phil Lord and Rodney Rothman. The jokes all land and the serious moments are heart-warming and the banter enjoyable. It's good dialogue and none feel wasted. If I have to give the movie a flaw then I would say it is kind of the Spiderman group dynamic. Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker and Peter Porker don't interact much with Miles apart from being extremely harsh on him. It makes the last moments with these Spider characters not as strong. Miles also just become an extremely adept Spiderman because the plot needs him to be. It doesn't completely feel justified since it doesn't feel like he was provided with enough training to be that good. However, it doesn't break the movie and the sacrifices are understandable to keep this origin story in just under 2 hours.

Overall, Spider-Man into the Spider-verse is still one of the best-animated movies to come out in a long time. I still loved it after rewatching it. It's a fresh take on Spider-Man that we haven't seen before in a movie. If you haven't watched this movie yet then you must absolutely watch this movie. I can't wait for the sequel!

I can't put into words how happy this movie makes me feel. An actual good Spider-Man film? I haven't seen that in over a decade. What? It's going to be animated? Excuse me? Hello?

Mile Morales, Spider-Gwen, Noir, and Peter Porker? Sign me

Mile Morales, Spider-Gwen, Noir, and Peter Porker? Sign me the **** up.

This movie is fittingly spectacular. The animation is gorgeous. It's stylish, fluid, and perfectly represents a comic book. The characters are all great. They're interesting, well-developed, and somehow distinct in their personality, despite being basically the same person. Miles is such a great character. Peter Parker is such a great character. Everyone is such a great character. I don't understand how that's possible.

The story is interesting, well-paced, and contains fleshed out themes of responsibility, perseverance, and growth.

This film just oozes of the effort that everyone who worked on this must have put in. This is the love letter to Spider-Man that the franchise so desperately needed, and that makes me so happy as a fan, and excited for what's to come.
