Michael Keaton succeeded in playing the role of Vulture beyond my expectations. Who would have thought that Marisa Tomei would play so well? Or for example Is the role of Robert Downey Jr. so effective? From the effects to the script and... all work together to make it a masterpiece.
I will say two faults of the movie and I will finish: First of all, the romance of the movie is weak, that is, compared to the Mark Webb series, it is nothing! Compared to Remi, they were in love with each other from the bottom of their hearts and knew that they would not get along. But here, more The same love in high school that cannot be taken seriously.
The ending is also not very strong. I mean, we see that May has understood Peter's identity, but he has no specific reaction, which is ugly! Well, isn't Peter Parker always afraid that May will find out his identity and doomsday in the comics?
But overall it is extremely successful and spectacular.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Get bitten by a spider, lose Uncle Ben, maturation and defeat of the bad guy. It is not a more of the same, but simply a more. Expand

Since the OG trilogy, Starring Tobey Macguire as Spider-Man and Sam Raimi directing all three Films, I've been a massive fan of the wallcrawler. Hardly any superhero can even come close to the inspiration and Sense of wonder that Spider-Man provides, making him my No.1 superhero of all time, followed by Batman.

Now, being the third cinematic version of the same guy in under 20 years sure isn't easy and since Hollywood loves milking this franchise, they had to come up with some new ideas. After the financial and critical so-so reaction the Amazing Spider-Man movies have earned themselves, the MCU now had the task of giving this icon new life. And they really nailed that job.

Homecoming is a Spider-Man movie with a very different energy compared to it's predecessors. We get a very young, inexperienced and overconfident Peter Parker who loves doing hero work and wants to prove himself to his mentor while navigating through highschool and puberty problems. Anime fans are already fimiliar with this core concept, seeing how "My Hero Academia" is one of the most popular animes right now and follows a similiar approach.

However, that is not a complaint, because this new Peter is maybe the most relatable version of the character for me. There's a lot more room for him to grow over time as both a person and hero while also keeping his core character traits as he's still the nerdy, awkward kid with way too much stuff for a teenager to handle.

The webslinging portion of his character also doesn't disappoint. He's much clumsier then his previous incarnations due to his lack of experience, but I love how he always finds a scientific solution to his problems, even when it doesn't work out as expected. The suit is also pretty cool, but not his best yet.

The newest element to keep the story fresh is undoubtetely the use of the advanced MCU technology like the web-gadgets. Not everyone likes this, but I do for two reasons. First, the technology is the main thing Peter has to master and it's also giving him the biggest problems in the form of this movies main baddie Vulture (portrayed by the brilliant Michael Keaton). It gives a whole new weight to the situation when Spider-Man has to remind himself that he is much more then his advanced suit and that his true strength lies in his unshaken will and his heart. It is a classic Spidey existential crisis, mixed with the more other-worldly advanced tech of the MCU and the rest of it's quirks like aliens, supersoldiers and guys with mechanical wings.

The Cast is all-around great, Tom Holland as Peter and Spidey is phenomenal, my favorite movie version of the character. Michael Keaton as Vulture is surprisingly scary for a otherwise very wholesome movie like this. RDJ as Tony Stark is perfect as always, Marissa Tomei is so damn likeable as Aunt May, Jacob Battalon as Ned steals every scene and Zendaya as MJ is...also there. Yeah, she doesn't get much to do in this one.

Michael Giacchino is responsible for the score and it's pretty great. Not the best in the entire series, but a good starting point for this Spidey. The new main theme f*cks hard and it only gets better in the sequels. The action is also pretty good, especially for MCU standards. However my favorite Spidey scenes were the more unusual ones, like him running through the suburbs or hanging from a flying plane. New Spidey, new challenges.

This movie is just so damn loveable and wholesome, I love it. Luckily, nothing bad ever will happen to this Peter and he will live a happy life with all his friends and his aunt who will most certainly never get murdered...

The vulture is an excellent villain, his background is one of the most envelopment in all the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a concept, but not really like a visual spectacle, maybe just at the end.
As a Spider-Man film is the less styling of all, it has a lot of changes that loses all the background of the character, you can't really empathize with Spider-Man, because this changes move us out of our comfort zone to take us to an awkward and inconvenient zone. The editing and the cinematography feels so weird and frantic and not to mention that the script is full of conveniences.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I didn't like this film as much as previous Spiderman films. I think I felt it was too Marvel universe oriented. I don't follow the whole superhero universe side of things but this film felt more trivial and perhaps full of injokes and things which I didnt/couldn't entirely appreciate. I definitely remember enjoying the previous 'The Amazing Spiderman' films with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire but this felt different.

There are undoubtedly some slick action scenes with good uses of CGI but it just didn't especially appeal to me, its an ok watch with a good cast (Robert Downey Jr and Michael Keaton to name a couple) but I can't say it kept me gripped to the screen. I suppose its because im not interested enough to follow the whole universe of various different superhero characters, so the info. about the stages different ones are at doesn't especially interest me or mean much but I imagine that big fans of Spiderman and those keen on Marvel superhero films will likely enjoy it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spider-Man: Homecoming gives us something that we haven’t seen yet in the MCU so far: a youthful perspective, being that of a teenager. This is a breath of fresh air for Marvel fans, especially younger ones, since the overwhelming majority of characters we’ve been introduced to in the MCU have been adults or older. For a second reboot of the Spider-Man character, this one works incredibly well as it deviates from the formula that the original and first reboot followed. Tom Holland, a familiar face from Civil War, is also a great casting choice for Peter Parker, since he’s actually young and gives a great performance as an amateur superhero who wants to get involved in action that’s a bit out of his paygrade. Peter’s abilities may not be relatable to viewers, but his mindset definitely is: he’s dealing with problems that a lot of teenage boys go through, like school and girls, and trying to balance all of that with “extracurricular” commitments. This movie, like Civil War, also deals with the consequences of actions which contributions to the realistic and relatable nature of the film, although it does so on an appropriately smaller scale. It’s nice to see Tony Stark take a mentor/father figure position with Peter, as in Civil War he was more of a recruiter and it’s overall cool to see how Tony and Peter both change each other and progress as characters. Interactions between the two are likely some of the most down to Earth and relatable moments of the entire film. Michael Keaton’s Vulture is a unique villain for the film and one of the first times we’ve seen a villain be motivated by providing for their family and making ends meet, which gives viewers a villain they can sympathize for. Through all this, Homecoming might be the most relatable film in the entire MCU, both to younger viewers who are having these experiences and to older ones who’ve had them in the past. The only real fault of the movie is a timeline error that occurs right near the beginning which places the movie in a year that it can’t take place in. The error isn’t egregious but is easily noticeable and slightly disrupts the continuity of the MCU timeline. Spider-Man: Homecoming is not only a nice new direction for movies based on the character but is easy to connect to and I’d strongly recommend it to younger viewers. Expand

I hadn't watched any MCU movies until the release of Avengers: Infinity War. Everyone was talking about it and I had just joined college. So I decided to bingewatch all the MCU movies so that I could catch up before AvengersL EndgameI hadn't watched any MCU movies until the release of Avengers: Infinity War. Everyone was talking about it and I had just joined college. So I decided to bingewatch all the MCU movies so that I could catch up before AvengersL Endgame releases. As I was watching all the movies I was getting really impatient to watch Spider-Man: Homecoming. The reason is pretty obvious: It's Spider-Man, literally the only superhero I actually cared about before watching MCU. Sure Iron Man came a close second, but I wouldnt' know anything about Iron Man if not for MCU. Spider-Man, however, I was a fan of him since childhood. I had watched the Sam Raimi trilogy, I had played that 2000 game, I had his toys and I had seen his cartoons. So Spider-Man is the only MCU hero who is so close to my heart. And here he has been given a very faithful adaptation.

The first thing that makes this movie so interesting for me is how Spider-Man's suit is in the movie. Overall this is the third adaptation of the popular superhero (not counting any bootleg movies). Toby Maguire's Spider-Man has all his superpowers within himself. He shot webs from his veins (I guess?), was immensely strong, could climb walls and had the spidey sense. Then came the Andrew Garfield one. He used a web shooting device for shooting webs, like how it actually happens in the comics (other than the comic book fans no one knew this is actually how Spider-Man shot webs), but other than that everything else came from within him.

Tom Holland's Spider-Man, however, neither shot webs from his hands nor could climb walls. He required his suit for the purpose. His suit also did the work of the spidey sense, which made him have to do almost nothing for a fight. This is not just a good way of showing how much he is dependant on the suit (something which is talked about later), but also gives his powers a lot more scope. His web shooters have multiple mods, he has an instant kill mode, GPS, AI that gave him all the information he needed and overall made him pretty much like Tony Stark but with a Spider-Man suit instead of an Iron Man suit.

The second thing which made this movie so interesting for me is that it focused on what makes Spider-Man so interesting instead of focusing on the same storyline as the two previous interpretations. We don't have to listen to Uncle Ben's story once again, we don't have to listen to Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy's relations with him, we don't have to know how he learnt of his responsibilities. Rather we jumped right into the good part - how a child is trying to handle his responsibility as an amateur teenage superhero and balancing his school life at the same time. Who can possibly forget that Stan Lee cameo?

And finally the third reason why I like this movie so much is because of what is at the stakes. Normally if anyone like me skims through all the MCU movies we'd notice that the movies don't have stakes on a personal level but rather on a global level. Captain America isn't fighting Red Skull because he himself is in danger but rather for his country. Thor fights for his kingdom. Iron Man fights for what he thinks is right. And on the other hand there are those fights which take place due to personal reasons, like Iron Man 3 or Captain America: Civil War. Here, however, both personal and global levels are on threat. Spider-Man has to stop the Vulture so that his city can be safe BUT he can't attack him because he's Mary Jane's father. His morals cause trouble because of which Tony takes back his suit, but later returns it after seeing the good in Peter. These are some small moments that end up humanising a superhero and makes us care about his personal life.

I see nowadays it has become something of a trend to bash Tom Holland's Spider-Man, which is mostly because people tend to compare him to Toby Maguire or Andrew Garfield. Among all the reviews sorting by Review Date are mostly critical of this movie. All I'd say to these people is dude, read the comics first. Tom Holland is the most comic accurate depiction of Spider-Man. Spider-Man is an immature kid who is trying to balance his life as a schoolkid and a superhero. He isn't as smart as us and gets those edgy mood swings, so we definitely can't expect him to be another Tony Stark. I really liked this movie, so much that I can watch it over and over again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first film of the second reboot series in the Spider-Man film franchise. Peter Parker is only 15 in this one and a sophomore in high school, just starting his career as Spider-Man. The film eschews the origin story and Uncle Ben is already gone leaving us with Marisa Tomei as a younger, sexier version of Aunt May. She is serviceable, but never the sagely dotard who imparts Peter with a sense of responsibility. We see Spidey websling around NYC and break up robberies and petty street crimes which is fun. Robert Downey Jr. returns as Tony Stark/Iron Man and serves as something of a mentor to Peter and offers some comic relief. Michael Keaton is cast as Adrian Toomes/the Vulture, the film's main antagonist, a salvager of weapons technology left scattered around New York carried over from the past Avengers adventures and electrical engineer turned into a criminal arms dealer after Stark industries shuts down his business. He dawns a green electromagnetic tailored body-harness with claw-like wingtips, and boot-mounted talons that grants him flight. It is later revealed in a plot twist that is he is the father of Liz Allan, Peter's girlfriend which was kind of interesting. The movie's mainly played up as a teen comedy set up against the backdrop of a superhero flick. Which is entertaining for what it's worth, but not as good as the original Raimi trilogy apart from maybe Spider-Man 3. It's better than the Amazing Spider-Man 2, but probably only on par with the Amazing Spider-Man. It tries to be woke by having a diverse cast and having mixed race actors in roles such as Liz Allan, Ned Leeds and Michelle Jones (or "MJ" as a nod to Mary Jane Watson) which is okay but a little distracting. Shocker is supposedly featured in the movie, but it would be easy not to notice as he isn't much like his comic book counterpart, doesn't wear a mask, and is played by two actors as two characters go by the mantra "the Shocker" in the movie. One is white and one is black. Only one is named Herman Shultz. Instead of wearing two gauntlets that shoot shock waves, he just uses something like a ray gun that emits shock waves. So it's a pretty lame version of the Shocker. Overall though, the movie is a pretty good entry into the Spider-Man film universe. Expand

Vulture is one of my favorite MCU villains. He's not evil or cruel just for the sake of it, he's violent only when he needs to be. He was just a regular guy who wanted to provide for his family, but he was screwed over by powerful people. I also liked the minor character Flash. I'm glad he wasn't the typical buff jock. That stereotype has already been done to the death. In this movie he's an annoying nerd who sometimes bullies Peter. He's also rich and a coward. I liked this change. This movie is also more grounded compared to others in the MCU. The scale is much smaller. Spider-Man: Homecoming isn't about saving the world or the galaxy, it's just a story about Spider-Man who tries to stop a small-time weapons dealer. Sometimes, less is more. Though I have some mixed feelings on Spider-Man being so tied to Iron Man and having a high-tech suit. Not really sure how I feel about that... Expand

Tom Holland is the star of this though. He kills it as the titular character, he adds a tremendous amount to the film. Michael Keaton plays his role well enough, while it's cool to see 'Iron Man' duo Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau involved.

Jacob Batalon is good, while it's noteworthy to have Zendaya and Donald Glover appear; even if they are underused/unimportant, at least for now for the former, I assume. I found the whole cast enjoyable, to be fair.

This narrowly misses the next rating up from me, but I still had a very pleasant time watching - and await the follow-up with much eagerness!

Eles acertaram.

PROS:
-The performances were spectacular. Tom Holland adds a youthful likability that was mostly absent from the previous two incarnations, and I personally believe he’s the best Spidey yet. Michael Keaton gives a very human performance as the film’s antagonist, The Vulture, and is a breath of fresh air compared to the rest of the MCU’s villains, with his human motives and the relatively low stakes of his plans.
-The pretty low stakes in this movie make it a breath of fresh air compared to other entries. It’s nice to sit back and watch a smaller, more human film compared to the mega-blockbuster, “end of the world” stakes so many superhero films stick with.
-The high-school scenes are pretty investing. Something I was worried about going in is that they would completely botch the human, high-school scenes, but they don’t. They truly stick the landing.
-The film’s tone is consistent, and never leans too far in one direction. There are dark moments, and there are laughs, but they never feel out of place in the context of their scenes.
-The film is very well paced. In my opinion, the movie never dragged, and was pretty fast-paced throughout.

CONS:
-The action leaves a lot to be desired. Having smaller stakes doesn’t mean your action sequences have to be less inspiring and creative. I feel there were several directions they could’ve gone to make the action more livid and exciting while maintaining that lighter tone and the smaller stakes, but the action felt mostly generic, and honestly, a bit boring.
-The side-characters aren’t very entertaining. Characters like Ned can get annoying after a while, and characters like Michelle (nicknamed MJ towards the end of the film) aren’t given anything to do, and are just kinda...there. The only consistently enjoyable side-character in this movie (Aunt May, played PERFECTLY by Marisa Tomei) is barely in it.
-Spider-Man’s over-reliance on tech throughout the first three-quarters of the film is a very touchy subject for me. I am a HUGE Spider-Man fan, but I think by giving him the upgraded Stark Suit, and giving him all of that tech, really takes away from what makes Spidey who he is. Peter is smart enough and powerful enough to solve his own problems and make his own tech, WITHOUT the help of someone else, much less a billionaire like Tony Stark. The only time the movie truly feels like a proper Spider-Man movie is during the final quarter, in which Peter deals with the consequences of his reckless (but well-meaning) actions, gets his upgraded suit taken, and has to take down The Vulture on his own, without his tech, in his own crappy, handmade suit. THAT is Spider-Man! However, this is more of a personal nitpick of mine, being a huge fan and all. I feel like most people probably won’t be too bothered by it. Maybe just the hardcore Spidey fans.

OVERALL:
SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING is a fun movie. It has it’s flaws, and it’s definitely not the best movie the Spidey franchise has to offer, or the MCU, but it should entertain you and I feel most people will probably enjoy it for the most part.

Uncle Ben being replaced by Tony Stark is questionable, most of the characters were dull and unmemorable, and the sidekick is just not very interesting or funny. There were also no mentions or scenes of spidey senses at all, which should be integral to a Spider-Man movie. But most of all, my biggest problem with this movie was Peter Parker's motivations. Rather than save people because of morality and responsibility reasons, almost everything he does is purely an attempt to impress Tony Stark. It feels very out of character for Spider-Man and doesn't make for a very well-written character. Although I will say, Tom Holland is probably the best and most accurate Spider-Man to date, and the Vulture is a pretty decent villain. Expand

Pleasant to the eyes and ears, this film tried to escape a little from the standard of the comic strip films.

This film marks the third film in the Spiderman franchise, under the seal of Marvel. In this film, young Peter Parker tries to harmonize his normal teenage life with the action and risks of a masked hero. Contrary to the other films, where he makes memorable actions thanks to luck and a handful of skill, in this film they are the problems that come to Peter.

Tom Holland is a convincing Peter Parker, quite confused about what to do and eager to prove himself before Tony Stark. The actor did a good job and managed to give us a Parker that oscillates between instinctive heroism and insecurity, typical of a boy in his teens. Robert Downey Jr. brings us, as usual in the Marvel film franchise, the iconic Iron Man, which he had already made in other films and which he managed to make self-centered and a demanding mentor. Michael Keaton brought a complex and psychologically rich villain to life, far more than most I've seen in films of this genre, which was extremely positive. I also enjoyed watching the work of, Marisa Tomei and Jon Favreau.

Innovative and ingenious, the film does not explain the character's origins and goes directly to what matters, functioning almost as a sequel to previous films made with this character. At first it was difficult for me to swallow this mixture of comedy and cartoons, and some of the jokes in the film had no effect on me. There is also, clearly, an attempt to moderate the action and fighting scenes that guided previous films and to offer less but good, with good CGI and very realistic visual effects. Excellent photography with vivid colors and good play of light and shadow help to make this film pleasing to the eyes and ears.

For the first film-restart cinematic universe not bad, I think the 2 part should be much better, Tom Holland perfectly fit into the role. Expand

Not simply the catching up of a character sold and lost. Today this uptake makes us think that Spiderman is entering the biggest cinematic universe of the world today and that it is not about to stop. Neither too joking nor too intelligent, we are given an innocent young boy to whom he has everything to learn as a spiderman and actor. He is not yet himself, but it is well started, because this role may be his role for a long time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ah, Spider-Man: Homecoming. An enjoyable film that I was so glad I watched. It's a great MCU film, but is weak as a Spider-Man film imo.
Removing elements from Peter's backstory seems better, but brings this at a disadvantage. They could've shown them in flashbacks... Because of this and Peter being close to Iron Man, I think of Spider-Man more as MCU's Iron Man Jr.Tom Holland is great as Peter Parker, but weak as Spider-Man. To me, this film would've worked if Spider-Man was replaced with a different hero.
Also, the villains are horrible. Vulture is great, but the rest suck. The first Shocker has a pointless subplot that lasts for less than a minute before he is killed, the second Shocker has no character development or personality, the Tinkerer is just an underutilized scientist sidekick, and Scorpion is a horrible cameo that doesn't do anything, especially because he isn't in Far From Home.
I know Sony messed up with The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but I wished they continued and gotten rid of some villain ideas. As for this film, it's definitely good, but isn't great and mostly lacks the identity as Spider-Man.

At first when I read about it online I was like: okay, they're rebooting spider-man again it's redundant and a little dull...but after I watched the actual movie in theater I was pleased. Keaton is a great villain; Peter is is well represented (young-smart-nerdish-trow one line around like in the old comics); gci is believable; Superhero action is good and for once it's not only "fight with bad guys" but actually have some "rescue people from perils" scene. There is some revamping in some of the supporting characters aimed at viewers of the new generation ...some of them off target like Flash Thompson.... but nothing ubearable.
It not one of my favourite Marvel movie for sure but it passes a second viewing on netflix.

A great Mcu Movie, but not a good enough Spider-Man movie. The comedy's pretty great but the drama, tension, and sense of consequence is completely nonexistant.

The acting performances from every actor were stupendous especially from Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, and Laura Harrier. Jennifer Connelly's voice over performance as Karen was hilarious and fantastic. The visual effects and action scenes were awesome and spectacular. The writing, story, screenplay, and tone of the movie were excellent. A+. Expand
