Is Sorority Row worth watching in theaters? Maybe if with friends. The acting is mediocre, but what can we say, it is a B movie. Sorority Row delivers outdated ideas, and maybe ridiculous plot, although it is fun, it is predictable and a really B movie, you can see it through the acting, the not over all good twist, and the plot. It is a cool women horror movie, albeit predictable and average, it can be so bad it is fun/good. Expand

This is not a suspense flick, it's a campy slasher flick. It's not even intended to scare you. The entire point of movies like this is really, really simple: Have someone kill a bunch of teenagers for some reason, throw in some camp value, and sprinkle in some creativity in how everyone gets killed. That's the only thing that's needed. So, let's run it down: Teenagers getting killed for an actual reason, and actually makes a little sense why they would deserve to die? Check. Carrie Fisher as a fearless, badass woman firing a shotgun that somehow doesn't need reloading (she fires it ten times in succession without one reload)? Camp value, check. Creativity in kills? Well, they're nothing groundbreaking, but at least they've all got their own flavor as the girls are picked off one by one. The first one is the best, in my opinion, because the girl is offering someone sexual favors for drugs, and the killer kills the girl by jamming the beer bottle she's drinking down her throat while she's sipping it, and then breaking it so the glass destroys her esophagus. Not bad, I suppose. And a twist ending to boot that would be pretty hard to see coming, but is actually sensible. So where's the problem here? If you want a cool slasher flick, here you go. Watching Carrie Fisher chase a mass murderer through a house with a damned shotgun is worth the money alone. Expand

It's nothing more than your regular slasher-sorority pick, but this one definitely has some extra magic going on. A decent movie, and a decent remake.

That was almost the most horror movie cliches I'd seen in an hour and a half in my life. It's like a caricature of a real movie. I feel monetarily sodomized paying 16 dollars for that. Only watchable as a softcore smut porn.

Best teen slasher flick since 'Scream' and 'IKWYDLS' back in the 90's. Perfect balance of comedy and horror, lots of violence, nudity and it's just pure fun. A must see for slasher fans.

Filmmaker Tim Hunter lit the match in 1986 when he shocked Sundance audiences with his debut film "River's Edge", which told the story about a new breed of kids who lacked the moral compass to report the death of a fellow classmates. As Jessica(Leah Pipes), the ice queen of Theta Pi, compartmentalizes the aftermath from the murder of a sister, the moviegoer may remember Layne(Crispin Glover), a speed addict, making the same quintessential disconnect which freed his stoner friends from culpability. But that was then, and this is now. It's hotter. Whereas Samson(Daniel Roebuck) acted alone, Jessica and her privileged sorority sisters are accomplices to the crime. Eight months later, they're toasting with champagne on graduation day as if that fateful practical joke gone horribly wrong, never transpired. A murdered friend, who's rotting away at the bottom of a well, puts no crimp in their house parties and f****. During the course of the killer's retribution, Jessica's ironic stance towards the corpses seem pitched somewhere between a parody on the horror genre itself, and social commentary about the real life horror of having no feelings. Even though "Sorority Row" doesn't know when to stop and supplants the organic(to the story) killer with a far-fetched one, this superior slasher pic burns down the house with a toxic girls gone wild vibe that makes elitism look like fun. What makes this film different from all of the recent mediocre horror films is that it is very much character and dialogue driven. The characters become as compelling as the plot itself and you actually find yourself starting to care about these characters. The dialogue shoots back and forth between the characters and further builds up the suspense until the final revelation. The suspense is very well drawn-out - it doesn't reveal the killer too early and it doesn't make you impatient for the end. The resulting finale is a big bang and not disappointing at all. The acting was also a cut above the rest - I didn't cringe at the lame screams or badly-acted terrified facial expressions because there weren't any. Kudos to all the girls because they gave performances beyond what I expected would be given. This movie doesn't deserve any awards, because it doesn't want any. Thinking about this movie is useless; if you want a movie that makes you think then go catch Inglorious Basterds. This film is meant to entertain, and entertain it did. It's what most horror films today should be. This movie has set a standard which all subsequent horror films (especially teen horrors) should follow. Just let yourself be drawn in instead of attempting to guess who the killer is and ruining the experience for yourself. If you just go in with a blank mind and just leave all you doubts at the door you will enjoy it as it is and not blame it for being what it's not afterwards. Expand

As a film it's morally bereft, utterly shallow, dumb, predictable, badly acted and really quite boring to boot. It doesn't really work on any level, not as a horror, comedy or even as a distraction for randy teenagers (it would have to at least be a little bit sexy to satisfy the latter, and it just isn't). I honestly found myself chewing through my own hand in order to summon the willpower to make it through to the end of this dire movie. It's complete durge, and what's even worse is that the film's conclusion leaves open the possibility of something utterly terrifying - a sequel. The only redeeming feature of the whole thing is Carrie Fisher, who is stupendously entertaining when she is briefly on screen as the stern but maternal, shotgun-wielding sorority mother. Thank you Miss Fisher, you at least made your scenes bearable through sheer ballsiness. Expand

These movies still exist, but for every one of them that emerges, it seems like there are at least three ambitious "reality" horror movies, and more than a few ambitious indie horror movies.

What we have to take into consideration, though, is that there are some horror fans who don't want ambition. There are some who don't even mind whether the movie is actually scary, as long as it's gory, sexy, and mildly suspenseful. Some people want trash, and have no shame in admitting it.

If this is your aim, then Sorority Row delivers.

**** slutty coeds who honestly have it coming? Check. Creative death scenes? Check. Gratuitous nudity? Check. Long scenes of said girls walking around calling someone's name before they finally get their well deserved tire-iron impalement? Check. Exploitive humor? Check. It's all here.

Like most slashers, Sorority Row is not scary. It may at some times be suspenseful, but that isn't the goal. We're here to see some **** sluts get knifed after oogling their boobs. And in that sense, the movie is executed well. There's no real clumsiness, other than in the beginning or the end. The villain has enough "coolness" appeal with his unique murder weapon---a tire iron. And he treats us to some old school gorn with it.

The only thing missing is an ill-fated sex scene. But oh well, we can live without. And it might not be gory enough for some. But If you're going to like Sorority Row, you know who you are, and I'm just going to tell you: yes. Yes, you will like it.

The remake is of course modernized and takes the classic independent horror film to the next level, with terrific effects, increased levels of fright and gore, and of course a ton of beautiful people. Where is this college and how soon can I apply?! Every guy and girl featured in the film, with the exception of Carrie Fisher, could be models, despite being well passed the age of most college students. The story starts out much like the original film does, with a Sorority prank that goes horribly wrong. The girls decide to cover up the incident and put it behind them, but at a large cost to their sisterhood. A year later, at the same party, someone knows what happened last year, and have decided to make the whole Sorority pay for their crimes. This film is a classic 'who done it' mashed together with a slasher film, and the results are pure excitement. The truth is that most of these film don't have much in the way of a story line and the killer is obvious to everyone, but not this time. This film is very reminiscent of Scream, and it really had me on the edge of my seat. A good Horror film is hard enough to find, but one with all that suspense and a compelling story to follow, that's worth it's weight in gold! Sorority Row is a perfect choice for those who want to spend Halloween, in front of the TV watching a scary movie! Expand

Sure it's not a great film but it's a clever and overly entertaining slasher flick. The setup is simple as a group of **** sorority girls play a prank that goes horribly wrong, leaving one of their sisters dead. They of course decide to bury the truth with one of them suggesting otherwise. A year later they begin to receive creepy text messages and find themselves being stalked and brutally murdered by a mysterious hooded killer. The movie is fun, the soundtrack is great, the kills are shocking, the performances are pretty perfect all around and the film is executed stylishly and on top of that the twist is surprisingly creative. But what really makes it fun is that the film lovingly pays homage to the trashy, slasher college subgenre of the 80s successfully. Plus the screenplay is just so fun with some truly inspired dialogue. Brianna Evigan is fierce as one of the final girls and Carrie Fischer is one hell of a stand out as the house mother.

In fact, it is extraordinarily similar to this last title, almost a chewed copy.

The script is basic: a group of university students about to graduate ends up killing a friend in a stupid joke. Afraid of the consequences that this could have for their future life, they decide to cover everything up and throw the body into an abandoned mine shaft. Months later, however, someone who knows all the story appears and begins a killing spree, threatening to tell the truth.

It is a vulgar and poor film, that combines two perfectly bad cinema genres: the slasher, full of fake blood and brutality, and the teen film, with all the youthful stereotypes, almost pornographic nudity and an obsession with everything related to sex and alcohol. The script is lazy and stupid, in that it doesn't bring anything that hasn't been seen in much better films and the characters were profoundly underdeveloped, ranging from tasteless to execrable, which results in our total indifference to their imminent death. We limit ourselves to counting the corpses.

I feel like I need to talk about the cast, but I really didn't want to. Dominated by female actresses, which is to be expected in a film that takes place in a girl sorority, there is not a single good actress. Briana Evigan, Leah Pipes, Caroline D'Amore (what an expressionless face, by God!) and also Rumer Willis are the actresses with the most screen time but none of them shone. Still, in the midst of chaos, Willis seemed to give us a more solid work. Of course, much of this disaster can be attributed to the inability of the director, Stewart Hendler.

Technically, it is an uninteresting film. Cinematography is quite regular and the special effects helped at the right times, but none of this makes up for the flaws I mentioned earlier. The deaths are quite brutal and may please those who like to see it, but they end up being relatively clean. Maybe they didn't have a budget for more fake blood!
