Definitely better than the first movie. Much more actions scenes and memorable moments. The worst I can say is that it did drag on in some areas, but overall, it was fantastic!

The three scenes (That won't be discussed in detail) had my feelings go like this "I don't know about that one chief, that don't make much sense when we consider the first movie and what (Spoiler name here) did."

"I mean, it's a cute scene but we could have trimmed the fat and maybe cut this scene out, but it was used in a way that helped bond the main characters so maybe not?"

"Nice to see the side characters get a spotlight in this, but given the way the movie was going. That's a bit jarring"

Now, outside of my negative criticism. My personal view of the movie

The music was spot on with an ending song that will forever fill my heart with a warm joy when I hear it. Knuckles was made to be a naïve but intelligent figure who learns a basic character arc that we've seen before. Done in it's own "Sonic way" so to speak.

Sonic is as loveable and charming as the first movie, albeit a slightly more mature rather than some of the direct pop culture jokes done in the first movie it takes a step back to allow an actual story to be built. If we consider the first movie as the foundation for a trilogy. This movie does a wonderful job to build up Sonic for his final act

Tails, if you didn't know from the ending of the first movie or the fact the movie has his 2 tails at the end of the 2, is also in this movie. It feels a bit forced admitted and I wish more was done with Tails, but the original VA from the games coming back to voice act Tails was nice touch and it did not go unnoticed As for the human characters (Such as Donut Lord and his wife) getting "sidelined" was a great choice but still keeping them relevant was in my eyes well done. Keeping Robotnick being who he is, and I assure you gets a fantastic ending in this movie that is well worth the price of admission, makes me wish he will still act for the third movie despite his statement of being done with his career. If this is his end, he went out with a bang!

All this being said. Sonic 2 really does build up on what Sonic 1 did, and brings the action you'd expect given the skill set the cast and crew has and blends it into the combat you see. All building to a grand finale fight that leaves a cliffhanger for Sonic 3 and I truly look forward to the third movie, no longer anxious or worried about it being good if it maintains its course that this movie has set up.

Finally, with all this being said. The movie has flaws, flaws I will admit to, but in my own personal opinion outside of a pacing issue. I will continue to love and re-watch this movie until I finally get sick of it!… Expand

I enjoyed Sonic the Hedgehog 2, I have to say more than the first Sonic movie. My kids enjoyed it and for my kids to sit thru 2hrs straight without moving around just shows how much they enjoyed the movie.
Now there are some down moments in this movie that I have to say was a bit unnecessary, like cringey jokes that didn't really land to well and other scenes in the movie that if they were edited out wouldn't make a difference to the movie at all.
But all in all despite the few bad jokes and unnecessary scenes it didn't ruin the movie at all. In conclusion this is a great movie for everyone, families and Sonic fans alike. It is worth seeing and I can't wait for another sequel. 9/10.… Expand

I thought the movie was great. It was amazing because it's sonic... ok I will say more. As a person who liked the first movie, I felt like this one was just as good. I like tails in the movie too. In my opinion, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a mixture of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and also a bit of Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
From the 2nd part we can see Tails, the Chaos Emeralds, Super Sonic and the Death Egg robot (The Final Boss) in the movie andIn my opinion, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a mixture of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and also a bit of Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
From the 2nd part we can see Tails, the Chaos Emeralds, Super Sonic and the Death Egg robot (The Final Boss) in the movie and from the 3rd part we can see Knuckels, Knuckel's alliance with Dr.Robotnik/Eggman and also Robotnik/Eggman's betrayal .
Although the Sonic 2 content predominates.
Now I'll talk briefly about the film itself, trying to remain spoiler-free.
The movie contains a lot more jokes than the first part, many of them are flat but a few of them were funny and made me laugh.
I still find it a bit illogical that the Chaos Emeralds are on planet Earth it would be more logical to hide the Emeralds on some other planet where Sonic and his rings would be the key but that's just my opinion.
All in all, the film is a must for all Sonic fans out there and I really liked it.
And one more thing Jim Carrey is just comedy gold.… Expand

The only thing that brings it down from a 10 for me is all the unnecessary human drama with the wedding and the dumb deputy cop. I'm only dropping one point because the good stuff more than makes up for it, but I hope they don't make the same mistake in the next one (Please Jim, just one more!). If scenes could be longer and have room to breathe before moving on and the tone was turned up ~10% more serious and didn't use already outdated references, this movie would be a 10/10

But there's a huge amount of respect for the lore that comes through and is extremely appreciated. Especially in times where other adaptations seemingly just want to throw out established lore for a "Hollywood can do it better" take.

Can't wait to buy the blu ray to go over all the details.… Expand

Another thing is the acting, all voice actors shine, all human actors shine, and everyone did a really good job. I especially love how they inject a good amount of sonic lore as well as it was a very good touch that gives everything a lot of depth. Visual effects are honestly, really well done with only one scene that felt a little bit off but it was incredible for the most part. There are definitely some moments that could be a bit shorter but it is such a minor thing compared to a large number of positives and it makes the movie more fun anyway. This movie is just fun, respectful to the material, and charming and I think it is the best video game movie adaptation ever made.

As a movie on its own, I would give it a solid 8.5/10 but if you're a Sonic fan like me you will be in love with how well all the characters were represented and all the elements from the games being on the big screen. As a sonic-related "thing" it is honestly a 9.7/10 for me. It's very hard to go wrong with watching this movie, it never feels boring, story is a bit basic but still has twists and is solid. This movie is so good! It was way better than the first one and just about everything I ever hoped for in a Sonic movie! The movie is a love letter to Sonic fans of all generations, while still being fun for more casual viewers! While theThis movie is so good! The movie is a love letter to Sonic fans of all generations, while still being fun for more casual viewers! While the first movie was good, it was missing most of the elements and lore from the game series, but the sequel completely corrects that. I'm definitely a little biased as I'm a life long huge Sonic the Hedgehog fan, but I'm not kidding around when I give this movie a 9! This is the most fun I've had at the theater in a long time!

The story was fairly well done and introduces a lot of characters and lore from the games such as Tails and Knuckles, and the chaos and master emeralds. I feel the introduction was done very well and gives the audience all the information they need to know to quickly understand what the movie is all about. It gets a little slow in the middle of the movie, but quickly picks back up towards the end and becomes amazing in the climax! Almost every minute of the movie had references and call backs to the video game series' long history of games, so eagle-eyed Sonic fans will have a blast finding all of the references! There was a nice blend of comedy and adventure throughout the film. Some jokes are a bit childish, but there are many jokes that adults will get a kick out of as well (My theater had both kids and adults laughing and cheering throughout the film). The action scenes are really well done and always have high enough stakes to keep you focused.

The main cast is amazing with Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Colleen O'Shaughnessey as Tails, Idris Elba as Knuckles, and especially Jim Carrey as Robotnik! (If this is Carrey's final film like he is considering, he'll really end with a bang!) The characterization is well done, and much more how they are in the best Sonic games than they were in the first film. There's some nice character development throughout the film and some sweet messages for kids to learn along the way about friendship and family, and what it means to be a hero.

The film's musical score was really nice and a step up from the first movie. There were many parts where the music really hit just right and complimented the emotional scenes perfectly. Though I would have loved to hear more music from the video games in the film, but it did it's job well, and I'm not complaining.

The only major problem I had with the film was some pacing problems in the middle of the movie. There was one part in particular which had to do with the humans at the wedding in Hawaii that dragged on a bit too long. I think it could have easily been fixed with a few more cuts to Sonic and his friends in the action, but it's not something that ruins the entire movie. As someone who didn't really enjoy the focus on the human characters in the first movie, I have to admit, even the human scenes had pretty funny moments in this one.

Overall this movie was a blast and I highly recommend it! Whether you're a kid or an adult, Sonic fan or not, there is something fun and exciting in this movie for everyone! Yes, it has it's flaws here and there, but I promise you'll find something to enjoy in this film! Absolute must see if you're a Sonic fan! (Oh, and stay for the after credits scene especially if you're a Sonic fan.) Can't wait for Sonic 3!

Fun and heartfelt movie with a ton of references to the source material that you appreciate if you know it but will not feel left out of you don’t.
Easy recommendation for anyone with kids or even big kids who want a nostalgia hit.

This Movie was made by Fans for Fans. If you are not a hardcore Sonic fan you might not enjoy this as much as you could, though it still offers some wonderful laughs and entertainment for the casual viewer. The jokes were way funnier and less like they were made up by that one Fortnite kid in your neighbourhood, Sonic was way less cringe and it felt like he had an actual character arc rather than just going to San Francisco to get some rings, Tails and Knuckles were pretty good characters and they both had some quite funny moments and a bit of good old character development. But best of all, they somehow managed to make Dr. Ivo Robotnik an even better villain than he was in the first movie with him looking more game accurate and having more things from the games like the movies version of the Buzz Bombers and his iconic Egg Mobile. Also the reveal of Shadow The Hedgehog in the post credits scene setting up the theme for Sonic The Hedgehog 3 was amazing! I'd say this is definitley a must watch if you're a Sonic Fan.… Expand

Great fun and a ton of heart like the first in the franchise. It's not afraid of where it comes from and I think it's better for it. The visual effects are extremely well done. Recommended for some a great time at the theater.

Idris Elba nailed it as knuckles. If you can stomach a for what seemed like a 30 minute plot halt humans only wedding drama regarding a minor character from sonic 1 and a new one you will enjoy this movie.

Compared to the first movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 focuses more on the aspects that the general audience really liked about Sonic 1. A bigger focus on the CG-characters, more Jim Carrey and less humans and forced jokes. Well the latter is still here but more of them land.

The pacing isn't quite up to snuff but only if you're not looking for easter eggs in every scene. Literally every scene features some things that make fans of the source material happy.

Good family movie, awesome movie if you're a Sonic fan.… Expand

The writing was fun, the action was enjoyable, and the acting(particularly Jim Carrey) was(mostly) great.

There was a lot of the wedding scene without the Sonic characters, but I felt they were spread out enough to undo most of THAT feeling.

SPOILER ALERT

Robotnik's death hits a bit more when you realize not only did the character die, but Jim Carrey's career ends there as well. That added to the scene for me.

Unlike it's predecessor Sonic movie 2 genuinely feels like a great adaptation of the Sonic games. It has it's ups and downs, but those were far-in-between. Defo worth watching, it's not only an amazing movie, but a great Sonic movie at that.

I loved it! It gave us almost everything I wanted to see in a Sonic The Hedgehog movie. It had Tails, Knuckles, Eggman’s logo, his big Egg-mobile, Giant Eggman robot, the Chaos Emeralds and of course our surprise guest at the very end.

Another great Sonic film! By golly, I think Paramount has a hit franchise with Sega. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 improves on Sonic the Hedgehog in almost every way. The action is snappier, the story grander, and the usage of source material is incredibly exhilarating. The only problems I can find are the strange pacing and lacklustre comedy. While the first problem can be chalked up to the director not being used to the longer runtime, the comedy just isn't as good as the first film's. Which wasn't really that good outside of Jim Carrey's performance and a few other scenes. But, all of the problems can quickly be looked past if you enjoy the story, characters and exciting atmosphere of the film - which I think you will.… Expand

Going into the movie, I was not expecting much. The trailers and memes I had seen before watching the movie made it seem mediocre and not worth watching. Some of my favorite parts from the movie were when the movie had darker tones, and when watching it with my younger cousin, he did not pick up on how for lack of a better term "dark" the story could be. Although, if you are >20 you may find it to be too childish, which is understandable. A good film, but I'm not sure it has improved on the original. It's great to see see Tails and Knuckles in it, and Jim Carrey is excellent again as Dr Robotnic. Anyone who stayed after the credits know we have Shadow coming up for the next film. I just hope they bring in Amy as well and have more comedy moments. Amusing, silly and fun. This was a noticeable improvement from the first movie packed with some fun Easter eggs from the sonic games and general pop culture. A lot of what made the first movie great is still pretty much here. Ben Schwartz is still great as the voice of Sonic, Jim Carrey is still a blast to watch and there are still some fun Sonic action sequences. Tails is finally here and the crazy thing is that they bring back the game voice actress for Tails, Colleen O'Shaughnesse. It seems that no one can play Tails except her. On the other hand, for Knuckles, they brought in Idris Elba who does a great job in the role. The story is pretty simple and predictable but it's got a nice message and that's good for a movie aimed at kids. I also really enjoyed that a majority of the focus of this movie is on Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Eggman. The rest of the human characters are in the backseat and that is great!

Unfortunately, the sequel does have problems with the first being its runtime. This movie is 2 hours long, 20 minutes longer than the first movie, and it certainly shows. There is a moment in the movie where they decide on a pointless human subplot about a wedding and it just goes on for way too long. There is also an uptown funk moment that kind of goes on for a bit too long. Overall, this is a great sequel and it's nice that they managed to still deliver a good video game movie. I'm looking forward to what's next in the Sonic movie franchise.… Expand

The idea that Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails are all hanging out in the real world is really cool, but it ended up being really cliché/cheesy. (I'm mostly thinking about dialogue between Sonic and Tails, which there's a lot of.)

I will say that the scene where Maddie and Rachel infiltrate the government building was hilarious, as well as the scene where Dr. Robotnik first gets the Master Emerald.… Expand

I can say with confidence that the Sonic movies are the best movies based on a videogames series (Though, I’m not sure that’s saying a lot.)

If there was one thing I didn’t like about the movie, it would be all the stuff involving the Non-Sonic characters. It just felt like they existed to stretch out the length time a bit and they didn’t contribute all that much. Don’t forget to stick around for the mid-credits scene, it will BLOW YOU AWAY!

I hope you bring you’re A-game, untitled Illumination Mario film, cuz the “Sonic the Hedgehog” movies have the bar set nice and high for ya! … Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Video game films have been almost always known for their disappointing quality, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is one of the very few exceptions. While the first Sonic film felt like your standard "Animal Buddy" film with little actual Sonic story pieces, the sequel includes a lot more from the games and improves the world quite a bit. The best parts of the film are the interactions between Sonic and Tails. They have the same fun chemistry as they do in the games. Idris Elba is fantastic as Knuckles. While I was initially hesitant about the casting, Elba proved that he understood Knuckles' character. Jim Carrey nails Robotnik once again, which is unique because Carrey almost never likes to play the same role twice. I only have a few gripes with the film. The stuff with the human characters isn't really all that interesting, but nothing awful, and I felt like Super Sonic could've been utilized a bit more. But as with the first film, there's a post credit scene. This time the film teases the debut of Shadow in Sonic The Hedgehog 3. The director of the film said that the movies won't necessarily follow the same lore established by the games. Shadow could make way for a Sonic Adventure based film which would please many Sonic fans. Overall, while nothing amazing, Sonic 2 is a solid video game adaption that uses its source material well.… Expand

That woman who got married and the events there would have happened at all. It spoils the fun of the movie. In addition, I did not miss the fact that she wore sneakers under her wedding dress and got out of the golf cart with evening shoes. I think there will be no Jim Carrey in the next episodes, even if there is Robotnik. If only they had given him a good ending.

The aspects that were good about the first were better here. The main reason I decided to give this a 6/10 and not a 5/10 was Jim Carrey. Carrey once again absolutely steals the show here. His presence and acting really kept me engaged with the film. While I said the story wasn’t great, it’s definitely more competent and well structured but still not 100% formed. The voice acting is pretty good although I felt mixed on was Idris Elba’s Knuckles. Sometimes he worked and sometimes the performance was not great. The action here was pretty fun. A lot more fun than the first film. It was more colorful and interesting compared to the first where the colors felt muted and bland. The visual effects as well were pretty great most of the time. Sometimes you could see the green screen but most of the time, the visual effects looked really great. If you want a dumb fun video game movie then this is the perfect video game movie for you and if you are a Sonic fan then this is a must see.… Expand

Overall, I liked this movie. 6/10, light 7. They did Sonic, Knuckles and Tails PERFECT. I LOVED Jim Carrey as Eggman, again. Except for some super cringe parts he did. Also, the whole parent thing with Tom, Maddie and Sonic was, in my opinion, super unneeded. I wanted Sonic and Tails and Knuckles. Show me more, in-depth, of Sonic and Tails' friendship. There were some other super cringe scenes that I didn't enjoy and 2 pointless characters, but the 3rd act was amazing. Made me enjoy it even more. Children will definitely enjoy it. I am still looking forward to a 3rd Sonic movie. I hope they focus more on Sonic and his world/friends rather than humans. I don't care about humans anymore.… Expand

Ну, честно говоря, Соник в игре хоть и был скоростным, но не до такой же степени! В фильме он превратился в какого то Флэша.

Начну с того, что кинцо для детей. Да. Но только не пойму для каких? Думаю, те кому от шести до двенадцати лет, кто такой Соник, Тейлз, Наклз и Роботник имеют довольно смутное представление. Ну если конечно ты не родился в японии.
Теперь о самом фильме. Ну это типичный сиквел. Всё, что было, только больше. Вообще все "человеческие" персонажи, в отличии от первого фильма, скучноваты. Честно говоря фильм тащит Джим Керри. За последнее время это его лучшая роль. Жаль, что он решил оставить профессию.
Ну, так как фильм детский, то никто не погибнет, даже не пострадает, ёлы палы даже царапины не получит. Все выживают в последнюю долю секунды.
Ещё в в фильме много сцен где актёры смотрят мимо "нарисованных героев" или машут сквозь них руками. Как то не доработано.
Так же авторы не обошлись без западных стереотипов. Семья теперь это: мама - негритянка, папа - белый и сынок...барабанная дробь......инопланетянин-ёжик! Ну чисто шведская семейка.
Не обошлись и без плевка в сторону Русских. В фильме они живут в сибири, которая почему то находится в горах, там всегда холодная ночь и идёт снег. В фильме эти "русские" это спившиеся имбецилы, грязные и заросшие бородами и щетиной, способные только танцевать какую то "пиванку". Спят они только на полу и говорят с грязным польским акцентом. И если людям с промытыми мозгами это кажется смешным, то мне нет.
Короче фильмец на один просмотр. Может детям зайдёт если первый фильм понравился. В прочем советовать никому не могу.
Кстати, я так и не понял, куда в конце делся Роботник?… Expand

Jim Carrey is great and this film has a lot going for it, but it's still Sonic in a human world... and the supporting cast is hit and miss (mostly miss).

I don't like it when they insert animated characters into the real world. It's very rarely smooth. Roger Rabbit was decades ahead in that department.

This is done really well, but you can still feel the forced creativity. They are trying to create a successful franchise with an IP. Nobody really cares about the project. There is no passion, but they compensate for that. They replicate bits and pieces of other movies. They focus group it. They make it likeable.

I think I heard they changed Sonic's design before the first film or something. I wouldn't be surprised. Audiences write these type of films now.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Mario Bros. At least there are no humans this time. I think they learnt the error of their ways in the 90s with Bob Hoskins.… Expand

Ich mag das Franchise Sonic an und für sich, aber wie zuletzt auch die Spiele können mich die Filme nicht ganz so überzeugen. Mir ist das alles zu albern. Das ist aber wahrscheinlich halt auch Geschmackssache.

Sadly worse than the first one.
Cons:
Half of the movie is made of predictable cheap gag like: Fart jokes, funny music montage (with notorious, abused, songs), dance scenes, doormat evil henchmen gag, raging girl meme ...so annoying. Pros:Sadly worse than the first one.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is watchable, but I still prefer the focus the first movie had. The story isn't that bad but it is way too long. The humour is the best part in the movie. As a Sonic fan who was unable to enjoy the first one, this sequel definitely is an improvement, a small one however, Sonic as a character is simply not as a funny as the writers intend (simply spouting pop culture references is not comedy)As a Sonic fan who was unable to enjoy the first one, this sequel definitely is an improvement, a small one however, Sonic as a character is simply not as a funny as the writers intend (simply spouting pop culture references is not comedy) and neither feels as both cokcy and inspiring as the source material version of Sonic while Knuckles, Tails and Knuckles are elevated versions of their game counterparts, they feel like more tangible characters and there was a good job on adapting them to this medium while sadly, Sonic remains simply a worst version of his counterpart. This movie also released barely over 2 years after the one and it shows,the script needed more time in the oven, the pacing is very clunky and there's a point where TOO many things happen for the sake of convenience or for exposition purposes. The most definitive improvement over the first one is how the movie looks, while making these movies live action/animation hybrid instead of fully animated was definitely a mistake that holds them back, when the movie goes fully into the territory of the game's visuals it reaches its best and most exciting moments.… Expand
