This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The rich flavors of it's storytelling, which is the main reason why the first two predecessors are famous and memorable, has simply faded away. Upon watching this, I simply say to the television screen: "Too bad for this great trilogy". The only notable qualities that exist in Shrek 3 is the appearance of its memorable characters we fall in love from the first two, and the decent humor.

Visuals quality is still the same from the second movie though.

There are action scenes in the movie that is quite good especially the princesses' rampage. But I missed, while watching this movie, is the heartwarming moments from the first two.

Shrek 3 doesn't contain any ingenious or original storytelling to tell. And makes you feel like Shrek 3 should not be even created just to save the reputation of the respected trilogy.

Overall, I'm sad on the becoming reputation of the promising trilogy.

Rating: 2.5/5 -> 5/10 stars.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

Is it trying to be a Shrek film? Like...More of the same? Or is it trying to be a fun family-friendly comedy?
Well, for starters, it fails spectacularly as a fun family-friendly comedy. It is probably one of the most unfunny movies Dreamworks has ever made. All its attempts at "humor" just failed. It's not funny. It's filled with uncreative and unfunny gags, nonsensical pop culture references and jokes that haven't aged at all (There were jokes that were just "Prince Charming is affeminate and that's funny, lol"). I laughed at moments that I don't think should've been comical, specially certain scene at the beggining of certain character's death, like, it was shown as something comical.

The score is forgettable and not memorable at all. The characters don't have any real arcs or development. New characters like Arthur and Merlin are stupid and Prince Charming as a villain is a complete JOKE.

Okay, is this movie at least a Shrek movie?...No. It even fails at being a SHREK movie. It seemed like the writers were like "Uhm oh yes I know how to write a Shrek movie...It's a satire of fairy tales and it's a comedy with pop culture references and pop culture songs!" Except Shrek isn't supposed to be just that. Shrek 1 and 2 are excellent satires of fairytales and their tired formulas and characters, but they also had some really effective emotional moments and simple yet powerful underlying themes. In this movie there's NOTHING like that.
-Fairytale satire? Just barely. None of the "satire" was funny or creative at all. This is apparent with the princesses...Like, yeah, I know Snow White sings and talks to animals...Where's the joke on that? Yeah Sleeping Beauty is the one who sleeps...Haha lol so funny 11/10.
-Pop culture references? Like I said, they were stupid, pointless, nonsensical and NOT funny. Like the scene were Arthur leaves his school saying to everyone "I will build this city on rock and roll!"...Was that a joke? It was just a reference!
-Pop culture songs? They are forgettable and so poorly used. There's a funeral scene in which they have "Live and let die" playing in the background...What does that song have to do with the context of the scene?
-Emotional moments and simple yet powerful messages? Ha, you gotta be kidding me. There is nothing like that in this movie and any attempts at being "emotional" were totally cheesy and corny. The movie does have a theme...I guess, but it's shoved in so awkwardly by exposition, almost as if the writers were like: "Hey don't be mad, this movie does have a DEEEEEP message!!!!"

I don't consider this one as part of the Shrek canon, sorry. This is the movie that turned Shrek into a meme, into a JOKE. This is the example of living long enough to become the enemy instead of "dying a hero". If this movie was cancelled and we were left with only two movies, then Shrek could've still be regarded as a respected movie franchise.

Vale a pena assistir. Expand

Comfortably the weakest of the four feature films, Shrek the Third has less of everything. Fewer jokes, less interesting portrayals, less interesting plot. It's not wholly without merit, just so much weaker than the other three films.

I always used to see the Shrek franchise as something of a fairy tale, one that I can't possibly like. There were many reasons why - Shrek looked ugly, the animation wasn't exactly what I'd call 'gorgeous', and the little me couldn't tolerate seeing a princess beat up soldiers (I know, it happens in Shrek 2 and Shrek the Third but I couldn't tell the difference). So I finally watched it, just to see what all happens in it and why exactly does everyone meme it so much. I liked the first two so much that I decided to watch this movie too, and it was... meh.
Shrek the Third started off really well. But the problem with this movie is that, well, it created an expectation too high. The first five minutes were actually very good, with Prince Charming grieving over his mother's death and everyone mocking him. But immediately afterwards it changed to the bad guys deciding to hate him for being bad. This didn't make sense, because that's literally what bad guys do. And then the bad guys unite to wreak havoc and... Remove a stamp? It looked like a joke that could have been in any other movie.
Speaking of jokes that could have been in literally any other movie, there are plenty that happen over here. The king dying and then coming back to life before dying properly, Shrek throwing a champagne bottle at a ship making it sink, Puss explaining how babies are made, Shrek and Donkey threatening the librarian (I still remember seeing that scene in the trailer as a kid), Puss and Donkey not being restored to their original bodies completely in the end and of course, the entire plot of Arthur being a loser.
But of course this movie isn't absolutely terrible. I really liked the speeches that Arthur gave; once at the campfire when he and Shrek talked about their lives and once in the end where they defeat Prince Charming. The part where Puss tries to look cute when he's in Donkey's body and the soldiers get disgusted was also hilarious. I also enjoyed the part where all the princesses come together to storm the castle. I hated that scene as a kid but now I find it funny.
Shrek the Third is the only 3rd movie of a franchise that I have ever realised wasn't as good as the previous ones. I watched Spider-Man 3, Star Wars: Episode VI, Despicable Me 3 and even played Batman: Arkham Origins, and I really liked them all as much as I liked the other two. It doesn't have quite the charm that the first two movies, for that matter all the other three movies have. It's a pity that I really wanted to like this movie, but it seems too mediocre. Although I won't mind watching this again.

Unfortunately for me, the worst Shrek movie .. I criticized the movie a lot here in the finals and almost never praised it. But don't take it that way. It's not that bad, but in short I personally didn't really like the film and I was very disappointed, that's why the rating was so low. So I personally do not recommend. Expand
