What makes this journalistic drama interesting is how, through determination, a cloak of silence could be broken and a can of worms uncovered, which involved decades. To highlight the performances.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. All men are pigs and women are always right. That's how you'll feel after watching the movie. As everyone was already aware of the story an expectation for some good plot progression and acting was expected but good luck finding that. In the end its just way to boring and for DV victims and Women who were abused its just trauma revising moment. Expand

The disturbing shots of dark hotel rooms and hallways during the flashback scenes really got to me and the trauma of the victims were so well captured. But its story is well told and it was fascinating to see the stages of how a story gets broken at the New York Times. I am much more respectful of journalists after seeing the movie; you have to be passionate, relentless, fearless, and intelligent to do the job well and the characters in this movie (and real life) are all of those things. They truly started a movement with this story and I think it’s a worthy thing to document with film. Expand

First off, the film does borrow heavily from themes and tropes of past similar journalism-centered films, such as 'All the President's Men' and 'Spotlight'. However, there's no denying the film's insight and candor into the heavy and troubling subject matter it depicts. Various detailed descriptions of sexual harassment and assault/rape from victims in the film (including an appearance from actress/victim Ashley Judd herself) enhance the film's impact and story rather well. Furthermore, Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan as Twohey and Cantor respectively give headstrong and dedicated performances here. Overall, besides Mulligan and Kazan's remarkable and committed performances, while rather formulaic and traditional in its approach, it's still accomplishes what it set out to do rather well for the most part, which is to recount the story of one of the most groundbreaking and important articles of this current century that made workplaces and people everywhere that much safer and more professional, and gave victims of harassment and abuse everywhere the much needed voice and courage that they were searching for, as well as hope that they're never alone in their experiences and struggles. The urgency of the subject matter it presents will no doubt cause many to turn their faces away from the more blatant defects of this drama, because it certainly tries, but I'm sorry, this ain't All the President's Men.

She Said is more interested in reminding you that the women involved were very brave - which is never in doubt - as it goes through a myriad of irrelevant scenes, such as the constant back and forth in cars and trains while the lead actresses pretend to be typing, because as I mentioned, its creators believe that the exposition of the theme is above how it is presented in narrative form.

Perhaps that's indifferent to many people, but I think Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor's investigative and journalistic work deserved more than a basic cinematic treatment that is more interested in positioning itself as an awards season contender, rather than a crucial and informative film about the situation at the time and that clearly played a pivotal role in the now-known aftermath of Harvey Weinstein's fate.

And in the end, it does not have any real repercussions within the system when we have the knowledge that this was well known by the industry, and it is known that it continues to happen with those who protect these people.

Weinstein fell because there was a lot to hide, because there were people that investigated and because maybe he wasn't as powerful as he thought to make all the research go away, but in the meantime who judges the enablers?

She Said isn't a bad movie, but it's nothing more than a simple recreation of something you could basically be reading on Wikipedia.

We all know MeToo and the events and the main characters involved in the movement. For women including myself, of course it's an important subject. However, I couldn't find anything besides the things we already knew through countless media reports and even more tweets and posts. The music was hypnotic and nonstop from start to end. The acting was okay but the plot was repetitive and unoriginal. Is it possible though, to make a journalist film as good as "All The President's Men" today? I believe it is. Sadly Schrader didn't do her best. Expand

Which is why these films really and truly work best when they play it straight, focusing on the facts in a no-nonsense, straightforward way, with no grandstanding or exaggerated histrionics, and that’s one of the innate strengths of this latest offering in this genre. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times investigation and best-selling book of the same name, “She Said” provides a fact-based recounting of the efforts of reporters Megan Twohey (Carey Mulligan) and Jodi Kantor (Zoe Kazan) to uncover and document the blistering sexual misconduct allegations leveled against high-powered Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. The duo’s reporting helped lead to Weinstein’s eventual conviction and the launching of the #MeToo movement aimed at exposing a clandestine culture of sexual abuse against women throughout the entertainment industry and beyond. And, as a onetime-practicing journalist myself, I appreciate the unencumbered approach the filmmaker has employed here. However, just because the film takes a rather direct approach in telling its story, that doesn’t mean it’s without its compelling moments of emotional heft, particularly in the testimony of the victims, including some, like actress Ashley Judd, who appear in the film playing themselves. Director Maria Schrader may not draw upon anything overly inventive here, and the film is admittedly a tad too long, but it nevertheless chronicles the reporting process clearly, concisely and unburdened by technical jargon or gaps in explaining the legal and journalistic consequences involved. It also features a fine ensemble cast, most notably Mulligan (in one of her finest performances) and Jennifer Ehle and Samantha Morton in significant supporting roles. While some have called this work “pedestrian” and “plodding,” I respectfully disagree with those characterizations and would readily put it alongside works like “All the President’s Men” (1976) and “Spotlight” (2015), movies that detractors of this picture have contended are far superior when, in fact, they’re all mostly on par. This offering genuinely deserves a fair shake, something it’s regrettably not getting to the degree it deserves (thanks to its often-unfair torpedoing by cynical critics and misogynist trolls). It brings to life an important story that was long in the offing and that has, thankfully, had a lasting, deep, culture-shifting impact. Expand

But unlike the Academy Award-winning film, this one barely touches upon the personal struggleJust as 'Spotlight,' 'She Said" dissects a real journalistic investigation to give insight into how, in this case, Harvey Weinstein was taken down. But unlike the Academy Award-winning film, this one barely touches upon the personal struggle of its protagonists. Yes, this is a story about women trying to do some good for other women — sorority is a theme director Maria Schrader tries to permeate the entire movie with — but the lack of a more solid internal conflict makes you wonder why this wasn't turned into a documentary. The plot tries to incorporate the struggle of motherhood into the story, but the theme is forgotten very soon.

'She Said' respects the victims and their suffering and reminds us why it's so hard for them to come forward. Still, the lack of tension and the strange mix of real people portraying themselves and stand-ins doesn't let you fully immerse into this harrowing drama about exposing sexual misconduct in workplaces. The recent 'The Assistant' and its minimal approach results in something more striking that shows instead of telling. Don't get me wrong, this is not a bad film, but in my opinion, a documentary would suit the story better.
