Does a great job setting up at least a dozen people who could be the killer(s). The meta narrative stuff is pretty weak here and the ending twist was fairly half baked.

Ghostface Takes Manhattan.
It was bound to happen. After the unexpected success of the fifth installment the franchise had to shake things up and change the setting if not the style.
It doesn't work out so well, but it gives the franchise another chance for oxygen at the box office.

I must admit that I had numerous doubts about how this sixth entry would end up being due to the speed with which it was approved, written and shot and while it doesn't end up being a complete disaster it does once again exhibit its many weaknesses, especially the forced reasons why its killers exist.
Almost every situation lends itself more to tension than horror.
I'd love to find someone who can tell me that some of it genuinely scares them.

Everybody knows the rest. This game doesn't change at all.
Clichés are the order of the day, and the ''meta'' resource is corroded from exhaustion.
The performances are pretty bad, mostly, Melissa Barrera who has none of Neve Campbell's charisma to sustain the lead role, and yet I must mention that Sidney Prescott is not missed.

Jenna Ortega who is now world famous, basically limits herself to the basics to collect her paycheck because she probably signed on for this sequel before she signed on for Wednesday.

Scream was a decent trilogy. 4, 5 and 6 left me with nothing worth mentioning. That's my opinion.

Frankly I don't want to see a seventh movie, but from what I'm seeing with its box office tracking, I'm absolutely sure we'll be hearing about it before the end of this month.

Yes another one. No really another one. Hardcore fans of the Scream franchise may be excited for the sixth instalment of the slasher franchise but more casual fans like myself who only dip in and out are not infatuated enough to get on boardYes another one. No really another one. Hardcore fans of the Scream franchise may be excited for the sixth instalment of the slasher franchise but more casual fans like myself who only dip in and out are not infatuated enough to get on board with a mediocre sequel. Ghostface needs to take a long hard look at Michael Myers and ask "do I want this to be me?" because that's the road Scream hurtling towards.

The "sequel to the requel" no one asked for but we got anyway. Picking up from Scream V, the survivors leave Woodsboro behind and are now trying to move on with their lives in New York. But the constant media online conspiracies and the continued fascination with the slasher movies has now led to another serial killer fulfilling their fantasy on Halloween.

Absolutely all the Scream tropes are there, from the blonde doing everything wrong to people with seemingly mortal stab wounds running around whilst not dropping dead from blood loss. Also in there is the return of some legacy characters, no not Neve Campbell, the other ones. If you really care, check out the poster, I'm sure they're stuffed onto it somewhere. And of course, there's the resident horror movie buff that lays out the plot for you, all while the movie pokes fun at itself at every opportunity. Yep you're watching a Scream movie alright, just not a very good one unfortunately.

Whereas Scream V was a surprisingly enjoyable sequel to a jaded franchise, Scream VI is stupid and annoying with an ending that may cause some viewers eyeballs to roll into the back of your head and stay there. It's nothing close to scary, not funny and the characters are very hard to care about. For me there's almost nothing working for it, the subway scene was decent but that's about it. All I felt watching Scream VI was "why are they still making these damned movies and why am I still watching them?" Enough now lads, this has to stop.

Scream VI is gory and certainly has enough stabbings to classify it as a slasher movie but the plot is terrible and just when you think it can't get worse, it does. Overall this sequel was not as ambitious enough as it should have been, not good enough considering we're now at the sixth movie of a franchise that pretty much follows the exact same formula each time. It's just another reminder that the franchise needs to hang up its mask and call it a day. Recommended for diehard fans of the Scream franchise.

Take the change inA modest, if still pretty clear step above its predecessor in nearly every way, "Scream VI" finds directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett harnessing nearly every element from the 2022 film and amping it up. Take the change in locale, which is surprisingly not just a backdrop or some marketing gimmick. The bodegas, the crowded public transit, the dank alleyways — all the trademark trappings are utilized to a satisfying degree. I also think the surrounding mystery makes for a much more unique feel. There's a lot in here that we haven't necessarily seen a prior Scream film do before and I really appreciate the (undeniably successful) attempt at trying to mix things up. The kills also feel a bit more unhinged than in "Scream 5," which I think adds to the intensity as a whole. Overall, I was really impressed by this directing team's second crack at things. Definitely pencil me in for the eventual seventh time around. Expand

I hope this franchise is rebooted come the next entry because the characters we're forced to watch now are without any type of likeable personality. They're simply related to someone we liked from the franchise's past. It's really lame what Scream has become and the cast we have to look at now. Wes Craven, you're missed. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

It does a good job at subverting expectations of fans of the series at times however, you do have to stretch the level of believability a significant amount at other times. I would say that holds this movie back from being the best in the series, but even so, I still believe this is a top 3 Scream movie and a good slasher film. It brings what you expect from the franchise with the rules and the laughs while ramping up the violence factor. This film does have full of nods to previous films and does contain major spoilers for those to come before. I do not recommend watching this unless you have seen the previous 5 films, especially 1, 4, and 5. With it being well known Sidney is not in this film, I am pleased to say it did not ruin the movie nor feel like she was missing. There was no need for her to be in the story being told. Scream 2022 seems to have passed the torch and gives us an intriguing protagonist to follow! Expand

Very early on, a black lesbian and a chinese lesbian scold a straight, white male for making a move on a consenting girl, even though in the previous scene a woman proudly celebrated the fact that she sleeps with multiple men and later calls it 'sex positive.' Needless to say, she was also the strong, dominant one and the man was the needy one. We have women wearing "I'm a strong woman" T-shirts as well as trans people walking the streets in the background. Almost every character is of colour except all the bad guys, who are predictably, white. On a separate note, Courtney Cox's top lip looks about as stiff as the corpses being left behind by the killer. Monika from friends now looks like that recent picture of Madonna, where she looks like the Jigsaw Killer from 'Saw.' Accordingly, I now call her 'Madonika.' Coming up with that name was the best part of this film. Unsurprisingly, she is also dating someone black, meaning that not one same-race couple exists in this film, as though it doesn't exist in real life. Objectively, apart from the woke agenda, the film is average at best. Most people giving it high scores weren't even born when the original came out and don't know what good cinema looks like. And finally, I don't live in America but if I did, and I knew someone was trying to kill me, I'd get a gun, like everyone else. Expand

And that's not even saying a lot since Scream certainly has the best sequels out of all the other horror films. This one, however, really shows how successful their formula is with how fresh, cliche, and self-aware the movie can be all at the same time, and still be an interesting and entertaining experience.

But I also think the best part about these movies is the bonds between the main characters. It really helps add weight to all the things that happen when you genuinely want to see the characters survive and continue to work together to catch the killer and survive.

That being said, the movie definitely suffers from being very unevenly paced in an attempt to keep the audience interested and keep introducing new plot points and developments. That, and to ultimately deliver on the kills everyone's there to see. Yet overall, the film does an excellent job with carrying on the series and showing why Scream has continued to survive and deliver on excellent sequels again and again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Henry Czerny and Dermot Mulroney should have switched roles. Dermot is a fine veteran actor but he wasn’t able to pull off most of what was expected of him. Spoiler: Let’s just say that Henry plays a better **** without even trying.
The movie was close to be being one of the best but also the worst, at the same time. Great kills, disappointing killers. Predictable face palm, survivors. It was like “really ? they had to survive again after all that.”
Need Oprah in the next one “you survive! you survive! and you survive!”

It felt like it shouldn't have worked, but it did! Now after a significantly smaller gap of just 1 year, we have another instalment in the Scream franchise. Does it continue to be a slashing entry or is this going to be the first to fall flat on its face?

Firstly, I love the change in setting for this film. Bringing the franchise out of Woodsboro made this a more interesting entry. We get to see Ghostface kill in the city and that leads to a lot of interesting set pieces. A memorable one was Ghostface hiding amongst other Halloween people on a subway. These scenes are incredibly tense and suspenseful. I also love how brutal this new Ghostface is. The way they stab their victims, hunt the main characters and hurt anyone in their way is unsettling. The opening scene was also a terrific way of subverting expectations. The mystery surrounding the new Ghostface is engaging and effective in its execution. Neve Campbell does not return as Sidney for the first time in the series due to a pay dispute which is a shame. However, I think the way her character is handled is done respectfully. Her absence leads to a focus on the characters from Scream V and it makes the film a lot better.

On that note, Melissa and Jenna return as Sam and Tara respectively from Scream V and I liked them more here. I liked how both characters handled the traumatic events in that film. Sam is very cautious and protective of her sister since the event but Tara just wants to move on. I especially enjoyed Sam's struggle with her inner darkness which was hinted at in the previous film. The surviving supporting cast from Scream V also has more depth this time with their friendship with Sam and Tara being more meaningful. Courteney Cox returns as Gale and despite being a small role, she has an enjoyable and tense scene with Ghostface. The biggest surprise was Hayden Panettiere returning as Kirby from Scream 4. The last we saw of her was her getting stabbed and bleeding out so it was a surprise to see her alive. I enjoyed seeing how she also changed since Scream 4. She is more hardened and resolved but unlike with Sidney, it's hard to tell if it is truly genuine or if she is Ghostface. Nevertheless, I do have some issues with it. My biggest is characters surviving fatal wounds. Some characters would get stabbed in the gut and leg but still have loads of energy to fight with no issues. You could argue that it is Adrenaline but it is kind of weird. Some characters survive getting stabbed dozens of times which is just plain ridiculous. It felt like they were scared to kill off characters. The story also relies on plot conveniences and incompetent cops. The Ghostface is hunting our main characters and none of the police think to stay with them. Once it is revealed who is Ghostface, their plan feels a bit ridiculous and also feels like it could have easily been uncovered if anyone from the police or FBI weren't dumb. Overall, Scream continues to deliver refreshing movies in the slasher genre. 6 movies in and there isn't a terrible movie in the franchise. I hope whatever future entry this franchise has, that continues to do something new and exciting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. How many Screams do you need to see before you see Scream 6? The question was one that I asked anyone who asked me what I was doing this weekend, because, like the casting directors wisely predicted when inviting Jenna Ortega on deck, I am really just here to watch Wednesday Addams get stabbed by a ghost. A ghostface? Ghostface? I asked as many questions as I could to Friend who was there with Friend-wife, who also had seen approximately none of the movies before this one. We traded notes and I mentioned Bilge Ebiri’s harried run down in Vulture. Bilge Ebiri seemed so out of sorts and tired with the constant churn of these films and the hyperawareness of the horror genre by the horror genre that I was sort of glad to come in a Scream queen virgin. It’s one of the reasons why I squealed with glee upon seeing the aforementioned horror film professor Ebiri talks about is none other than D-list Margot Robbie from Ready or Not(!!)! And if you’ve been asking yourself for the past three years, hey, what is D-list Robbie doing these days, I can now happily tell you probably whatever she was doing before her brief and amazing cameo in this franchise.

Like I said, I have very little familiarity with Scream in particular, but it sounds like a lot of what Scream and Scream fans did in their early iterations was set the groundwork for the structuralist horror fans among us, who are hunting for the down and dirty variations on a theme and structure. Friend made it after his fancy dinner–we all acknowledged the sublime weirdness of missing the Oscars in order to watch a movie late on a Sunday night–and I’m sure that I would be remiss in mentioning that his favorite movie, Cabin in the Woods, is sort of the distillation of Scream’s ethos to systematize and the lightly meta-parody the horror genre. The subtle passes at genre tropes and mise-en-abyme structure scenes all left us chuckling in the first act, and though it seems like your enjoyment might vary based on your familiarity with the 5th film particularly, in which we meet a lot of the gang, there’s a whole lot of fun to be had. It definitely feels like Halloween lasts about four full days and nights in the first act, and I’m almost 100% confident that former OTM host Bob Garfield plays the therapist and I will not accept any facts to the contrary.

One of the things that I find most vexing coming out of a Scream (is that how we describe seeing this movie? or, having been Screamed at?) is it seems like there’s this tradition of guessing who the killer is and being surprised by which close friend is responsible or whatever, but this far into the franchise, it feels like that surprise is a lot more of a game that it ever could’ve been previously, because it starts feeling a little unsolvable, a little Orient Express, and I suppose that tumbly reveal is part of the fun if you’re primed to make big leaps of intuition. Friend describes this tendency as playing on a typical Gen Z trait, FOMO: everyone wants to be the killer and there’s a lot of pressure to fit in. It’s almost weirder in Scream 7 if everyone isn’t the killer, constantly putting on and taking off masks and cloaks every moment they’re not directly trained on the camera.

Anyway, I am completely unafraid of being stabbed in the darkness of my home right now after having seen it late last night and that’s mostly because my phone is literally always on silent and I cannot imagine picking it up for a blocked number ever in a million years, but also because the thing that makes this movie so delightful is the way that it finds humor in the scares, like some of the best horror film predecessors. It’s something that makes this a must-see in a theater with strangers and rewards virgin Scream queens like myself.

However there are a few things that are not logical at all, maybe it's just me, but I noticed a lot of scenes where a spotlight character could have done something else instead of just running away, "you are holding a Knife just gut the dude already". I guess it's meant to make the audience think are "they going to die", or "will they or won't they" type moments?

Other than that amazing effects and visuals were done with the blood, characters, scenes, looks and everything.

Would you like the ratings? Read this in a scary, formal voice.

FX and Practicals - 9/10. Some gore would be nice, but the blood effects were sound.

Story and Plot - 7/10. It's good but lacks logic in some scenes. But most of the time got me suspicious of the characters. (That's a good thing)

Characters 6/10 - As a newcomer to the franchise, I Surprisingly liked all the characters. But then again the logic and the overall plot dampens the way characters act.

Overall, a good movie, 7/10 watch it, it's more than entertaining, it's quality content. Is it the best mystery, horror, or thriller movie I've ever watched...no that probably goes for movies like "Seven". If you make the next movie more scary and intense, maybe a bit longer, you'll have a banger. And don't be afraid to let your characters get their hands dirty(again) if you know what I mean.

Each installment is always the same: a copycat killer terrorized the main characters, and it is up to them to find out who is / are the killer(s) before they become the next victim. Another thing that really bogs down the franchise is that despite their efforts, both Ortega and Barrera do not have the same 'charisma' as the original cast members. Nevertheless, still a great watch. Expand

We got to see more from Jenna Ortega the uprising star portraiting Tara, throwing punches and take-downs all over the place just at 5ft.1 or maybe a touch less.alongside her sister Sam played by Melissa Barrera who stole the show and lead act in Scream 5 as well,as they try to solve this time's more complex whodunit and behind the mask mystery in matching style and a modern take compared to the original films.

Opening up with two wannabe rookies trying to pull off ghostface leads to a ghostface with a shotgun!.
The story takes it all up a notch with good writing, nice soundtrack and really the best part, messier, harsher and more gruesome kills with blood spilled everywhere to match the vibe that a masked killer should give.
Creating an enjoyable cat and mouse game while showing old faces too like Courteney  Cox and Hayden Panettiere that climaxes to a cheesy and unrealistic though acceptable final act.
taking the old story and tricks to the new world and trying to keep it alive, with more knives and stabs and succeed, but not in every aspect.
Just make sure you don't pick up your phone while watching or who knows?
You maybe next.

Whether it's introducing characters that are nothing more than carbon copies and bad caricatures of the beloved original cast members, or killing these beloved characters for manipulatively dramatic purposes instead of letting them just ride off into the sunset, happily. Instead the movie refuses to let this franchise die, to the point where I am less compelled to see where the franchise goes from here, and more so just eagerly anticipating when the franchise is finally going to end. To me it ended when Wes Craven passed. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Another franchise that got trashed. This time the protagonists are two Hispanic sisters who, now in New York, are a thorn in the side of the well-known hooded mask murderer from the previous Scream films. Unfortunately, like all WOKE-era films, a stupid political agenda is the foundation on which the "renewed" franchise is built. The protagonists are minorities, lesbians and blacks, mostly women of course, the bad guys are white men and, surprise, also a white woman. In the end, "of course" the big Hispanic sister slaughters the evil evil white ones with a crazy grin on her face and of course the black friend survives, the tiny little annoying sister and the super annoying black lesbian supporting actress, who is, by the way, incredibly, incredibly annoying and constantly makes fun of white young men with stupid sayings (male virgin, blah blah...). Oh, of course Gale Weathers has a black boyfriend now, sure. Wes Craven must have turned in his grave when he found out that his franchise (The first four movies are really good) is about to be rebooted, this time sadly adapted to the damn Woke era. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Unlike the first movie, there isn't much time for the characters to grow. In between the Ghost Face scenes, the characters mostly mope around and talk in circles about how they are all dealing with trauma.

Gale's story is paper thin. She turns up and is punched, again, for writing a book about the Ghost Face killings. I don't know when a throwback becomes lazy, but this crossed that line for me, especially because her character is not developed.

In fact, most of these characters are paper thin. There are too many of them, and they don't have any unique characteristics. In the first movie, most of the cast got at least one scene and their personalities were shown through their interactions with the other members of the cast. They tried to develop the two 'main' characters, but it's nothing special. They play on the fact that one of them keeps seeing Billy from the first movie but nothing really happens. There are a few weird choices too:
There's a scene where the characters are watching TV and it's reported that sales of the mask have skyrocketed. Why isn't the Ghost Face mask banned? The killer doesn't shoot until after a character tackles him. He had a clear line of sight in this scene and ostensibly has firearms training due to his police background. He is also shown shooting earlier.

How do the killers evade cctv and gps tracking? Why does Gale have a landline phone? Overall, when does a franchise become burdened by its past? One of the characters says, 'legacy doesn't always have to be a bad thing.' I think it is in this case. Personally, I would like to see the franchise move to an anthology format, each movie being independent so that new ideas can be explored without having the burden of the franchise's legacy. There would still be room for references and fourth wall breaking.
