Sylvester Stallone better go back to the 'Creed' universe, because his try at being a superhero couldn't have been more generic and subpar, even more than most recent Marvel films.

Entertaining, superhero flick starring Stallone is more poignant than you think, thanks to the star's surprising grounded performance. The bad thing: some cheapo production values hamper what is essentially a very serviceable flick.

The best thing about this movie is its unpretentiousness, it feels like an action movie from the early 2000. They refuse to play the identity game and avoid any forced social commentary, that's so refreshing for today's standard. They also refuse gore and edgy characters but the core values delivered by Stallone are actually not trivial (running vs fighting, fixing vs breaking, refusing good/bad dichotomy).
Stallone is perfect for the role, Walton is decent and Asbæk is a believable villain...so why not more than 6? Because of the subpar action scenes and the lack of a coherent story. SPOILER AHEAD. Who stopped the riot at the end? Didn't the villain's plan actually succeed without any consequences? What was the point of that hammer if Samaritan could be killed by a simple fire? Why was the villain able to match the strength of a superhuman? Meh...

This is almost a good movie.
There´s some moments that´s so bad it rips you out off this movie.
This feels like a trip back to 80s/90 B-movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm a big fan since Rocky, the first movie. Who am I kidding, I'm only 30 now.
Look, this is a good watch on a saturday night, I'll give You that, but the movie didn't grip me, because it wasn't directed by Sly. It's a great tale with some reasonable budget, but there are too many missing pieces. I really wanna give this movie a 7, but I'll tell You why I give it a 6 - that conversation in the middle of the street at 46:15, YOU CAN'T MISS THAT GOOF and that's undeniably a huge one. Saw a few more, but You'll see them on other reviewers and Prime's X-ray real soon. Good job, Sly - nice acting, but he didn't save the movie, neither did Pilou Asbæk.

More watchable than at least two thirds of the productions coming out of DC and Marvel. Definitely a serviceable super-hero romp with a good twist.

I'd also say that this is a perfect role for Stallone. The FX, production and people playing the villains don't always hold up, but with the moral at the core of the movie I'd say it's all serviceable. There are a lot troupes, but the superpowers on display, and their drawbacks, are kind of unique and cool. I'm not sure at this point if I'm just really great at figuring out what movies are going to throw at me or if it's all telegraphed, but I saw all of the twists coming five minutes into the movie. At first I wasn't sure if it made a difference in the movie, but the more I think about it I holds the morals on display in a different light so I kind of like what they chose to do. Other than some swearing and one or two major acts of violence, I think that this is actually a super hero movie that is definitely okay for the younger kids. It is a bleak world that they depict, but I think it's worth checking out. Expand

It even has a message, unlike most of the movies nowadays (propaganda doesn't count as "message").

Stallone still rocks, but he really needs a better writer.

Stallone still does it well as an action "hero"(?) even this late in his age, the movie was ok, but not very memorable or too entertaining. Not a bad movie, but not a masterpiece either.

If still no one gets tired of being told always the same old story, why invent something new? The "Balboa Productions" gives birth to Rocky or "Creed" in the Disney superhero format ad infinitum.

What do you get when a good Samaritan meets his Nemesis? I don’t know, but Rocky told that to Apollo Creed and that’s what started the first fight. Welcome back, Streamers! This weekend we were able to watch Prime Video’s release ofWhat do you get when a good Samaritan meets his Nemesis? I don’t know, but Rocky told that to Apollo Creed and that’s what started the first fight. Welcome back, Streamers! This weekend we were able to watch Prime Video’s release of Samaritan. The movie follows a teen Sam (played by Javon “Wanna” Walton) who suspects that his mysterious neighbor Mr. Smith (played by Sylvester Stallone) is actually a former superhero hiding plain sight. As the tale goes, about two decades ago the greatest hero, Samaritan, and villain, Nemesis- not creative, also maybe twins (?), had the biggest battle of their careers. At the end of the battle, a huge explosion was reported to have killed both, but many believers thought that Samaritan was still alive. With crime on the rise in the city, everyone is still looking for Samaritan to reappear. Sam makes it his business to make his guess come true. Let’s see if this gets the parable treatment

Now, you may think I went into too much detail about the plot, but the origin story in the beginning of the movie was the best part. Let’s be honest, the names of characters can’t be more boring. The good Samaritan and his Nemesis. Really? Can we get duller? Anyway, the story about them being twins and going opposite ways and then a weapon was forged for an epic battle. It is pretty good. Reminds us of that whole Cain and Abel situation. However, what follows is basically every movie about a superhero in hiding. I can’t even say the action sequences were even that inspiring or shocking. Towards the end, Stallone does put on a bit of a show but even that’s pretty short-lived. Speaking of Stallone, he was okay in this as a whole. You could really see him trying to portray the feelings, restraint, and annoyance that this character may have had dealing with due to this kid and his past. Speaking of annoying, our little buddy in this film was just that. Wanna Walton, while on purpose, was annoying, nosy, and fit the role well. The only other character of note was the new age Nemesis, and this movie did it’s best to give us a Bane monologue for this guy. That’s literally all I can say of note for his character, otherwise just the normal gang leader who wants more power. Seen it a million times.

Long story short, this parable isn’t a bad watch just there’s no rush to watch. Samaritan totes an original story but lacks some original execution overall. The elder statesmen Stallone gives the character a pretty good go as a “retired” or superhero in hiding. There are some okay fight scenes here and there but not enough to really make the movie pop off your streaming lists. Grab a handful of popcorn, be a good Samaritan yourself and if you find some time during a lull in your afternoon turn on this Prime Video streamer.

The jokes created for them typically fall flat since there are so many stand-up comedians trying to include comedy and action in movies. Poor jokes end up sounding trite because people expect them to be funny. However, the unexpected delivery actually starts to be amusing when a serious character—such as a classic action hero—turns comedic. In an unconventional comedy/action movie character, Sly might excel. Although I could be mistaken, I don't remember him ever trying this in his professional life. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I couldn't finish it; I stopped like halfway through. I don't know who wrote it, I don't want to check because I don't care. The funniest part is when the mother doesn't receive enough money for rent from what it looks like nursing job, I wonder if the writer ever had a real job and knows how the world works. This movie is bad, I feel bad for Sylvester Stallone for playing this role, the plot is written by a ten-year-old kid for real. I can tell if the movie is serious or joking. Amazon Original are garbage they need to stop producing shows and movies and focus on the customer experience of their customers on the website. Expand
