With budget constraints and little publicity, it would have been nice for this film to be just alright, but it is better than very good. I love when a film respects the intelligence of its audience. This film invites the viewer in right at the start, with believable characters and struggles, and with a fine balance of direction, acting, plot and and story. I would watch another film from the same crew and/or cast members tomorrow if it came out! Expand

However good performances in general and a good story line along with good cinematography and soundtrack boosted in my view the whole thing. I hope to see more, but if this is a first step of sorts I'll happily go see more films along the same lines.

EDIT: I should also note, yes I signed up to review this movie. Yes it's my only review, but do you know why? I watch films all the time, I love plenty of the same classics that I'm sure other folks do as well across most genres. The reason is because I generally don't feel compelled to share my opinions on sites like this, so I never signed up an account despite generally feeling the reviews on many movies are honestly quite terrible. But seeing the solid evidence that people wouldn't give this movie a fair shake? Yeah that was enough for me to give out my email address, sign up for an account and share this review. Will I do more of it? Maybe we'll see, I don't think it's that practical a use of my time. But when I see a decent/good maybe better than many things being shown movie panned by the critics, and other reviews insulted as "bots" well I'm willing to write something myself. So take this with a grain of salt and it's worth what you paid for it. I liked the movie and if this is written by a bot god help us all since the programmers grammar sucks.

Loved the movie. Such a refreshing movie to watch as it addresses real issues and presents a solution that is largely silenced or demonized by most other media. Highly recommend!

For the first movie produced by The Daily Wire, its very good. The acting was unexpectedly good. The content is timely and the theme of fighting back and fighting for others is definitely needed. Well done and well worth watching.

To get the bad out of the way... there were a few (very few) cliche moments in the beginning and end, and a few times where the acting or character motivation... eh, kind of fell short.

And, since I'm a stickler on these things, some of the gun physics were off. Bullets would have flown right through that (spoiler alert) and unless the were incendiary rounds, don't make sparks like that. Or that click-chick sound when you pick it up. But I have to say, compared to most movies, even those fake things were pretty minor.

So, honestly, that's all I can say bad about the movie. Which, again, is pretty good, if you know me. There was action that felt very real. The movie didn't pull punches. The villain was perhaps a tiny bit shallow, but actually pretty good. A believable mastermind smartass kid who was out to... well, watch the movie.

The hero was a fun-to-watch badass, and in the right way. Not some scrawny girl (which she was, very petite) who can someone one-punch knockout a large grown man, but who instead used what she had to win. Nothing drives me crazier in today's movies than that overly fake attempt at gritty action, and this movie just did it better. Well done.

Other than that, the plotting was good, the characterization of even the minor characters good (even Louis made me laugh), and the whole thing with her mom was very well executed. All in all, I give it an 8.5- rounded up to a 9 because metacritic won't let me do decimals. And I'm the harsh critic. The wife yelled at the TV multiple times, so she was totally into it. And action movies aren't her thing.

Definitely worth a watch.

The lead actress did a terrific -- and believable -- job in a difficult role. Script was mostly airtight and the direction -- always a challenge with high school-age actors -- was remarkable. None of the characters did anything so stupid that you thought, "Yeah, that would never happen." Most importantly, it was a good lesson about how cowering in place isn't always the best approach. Completely predictable that reviewers -- the kind of folks who break into a cold sweat at the mere sight of a firearm -- would pan this. The fact it is produced by the folks at Daily Wire made that reaction a given. Expand

It was full of intense action and drama which was complimented by great acting and theatrics. The effects were almost too real for me. While I am usually not a fan of gory movies I still couldn't turn my eyes away. It went for realism more than just rough to be rough and sensational. That made it better for me. It certainly keeps you on the edge of your seat and brings to mind all of our fears of finding ourselves in a similar situation where you come face to face with pure evil. It made me ponder man's innate desire to survive, help others, and to seek justice while trying to find meaning in the madness. I found myself pondering the actions various characters took in the movie. I think what made it the most thoughtful for me was that it didn't tell me which was right and wrong but left me to decide for myself. It didn't drive a narrative it just told the story in which every character had their own actions to choose and defend. I would love to see more movies like that! Very well done! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Run Hide Fight is a thoroughly satisfying thriller about the resilience of the human spirit. A 21st century take on the Die Hard narrative, the film drops an ordinary person into a hostage situation and follows her courageous efforts to thwart a gang of modern-day terrorists. The film is suspenseful, exciting, and well worth a couple of hours of your time.

The main character is Zoe (an outstanding performance by virtual unknown, Isabel May), a disillusioned and angry high school senior struggling to find a new normal following the recent death of her mother. Unlike John McClane in Die Hard (be prepared for numerous comparisons here), Zoe is not a tough-as-nails, experienced law enforcement officer. She’s a fragile, grieving teen who’s lost her comfortable relationship with her father, Todd (Thomas Jane), her drive to excel in school, and her youthful faith in happy endings.

It takes some skill to write a contentious protagonist and keep her relatable; writer/director Kyle Rankin does a good job of introducing Zoe as sympathetic, in spite of her deliberate efforts to push people away. Much of the first act is devoted to Zoe’s relationships with the two people she’s closest to: her father, who struggles to find the right balance between caring parent and stable authority figure, and her best friend, Lewis (newcomer, Olly Sholotan), who demonstrates unwavering patience with Zoe’s prickly exterior. As with Die Hard, the story is rapidly kicked into high gear when an ordinary day is violently interrupted by a group of terrorists, in this case, of the school shooter variety. Led by charismatic Tristan, this team of misfits turned monsters crashes (literally) into the cafeteria and turns the school into a battleground where only one side is armed.

At this point, the story surges forward with edge-of-your-seat suspense as Zoe’s classmates and the adults in the building all make choices they believe will keep them alive. Of course, some of these choices pay off and some do not. The unpredictability of Tristan and team’s behavior makes them a terrifying foe; the fact that Tristan knows for a fact that the school administration will adhere to a predefined crisis-management playbook (which Tristan has read) makes their attack equally tragic.

This is also the point where Zoe begins her transition from antisocial teen to hero. Many recent movies and television shows have mistakenly offered up “heroes” who overcome obstacles because they possess physical strength, fancy fighting (or supernatural) abilities, noble values, and flawless personalities. Rankin wisely recognizes that drama is far more compelling when a flawed character transcends her weaknesses to make the right choices. Zoe is a hero because when faced with a choice between certain escape and attempting to save others, Zoe chooses the latter. Unlike Die Hard’s John McClane, who is trapped along with the other hostages, Zoe has the opportunity to save herself and leave her teachers and fellow students to fend for themselves or wait for law enforcement to save them. Instead, she makes the conscious choice to go back in and rescue as many as she can. It’s a pivotal moment in her character’s journey, and whether we realize it or not, it gives us, as the audience, a reason to root for her above and beyond the simple fact that she’s the movie’s main character.

As with Die Hard, the film’s primary entertainment value comes from Zoe’s efforts to save the hostages and ultimately thwart the villains’ plans. It is difficult not to get a cathartic sense of pleasure when watching a character fight back in a seemingly hopeless situation, especially one we can all too easily imagine impacting ourselves and our loved ones. Equally enjoyable – and in contrast to Die Hard, where there is no question who will emerge the victor – is watching a movie that doesn’t promise a happy ending for the main characters from the start. Without this guarantee, we are able to enjoy real suspense as we experience the events along with the characters.

Run Hide Fight is not a perfect movie. The first act is a little clumsy, and Zoe’s driving thematic element can feel a little forced at times. But it offers interesting, well-rounded characters we care about, a tightly written, unrelenting second act, and a timely topic that raises several excellent questions regarding the response options currently available to public schools in crisis situations. For all of us who might fantasize about having the courage to save lives in an active shooter situation, it’s a welcome opportunity to live vicariously through a smart, tough, resourceful young woman in just such a scenario.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a Good action movie! I wish there were more movies like this. Pros:
- Extremely Interesting
- I found the atypical demographics of some of the characters to be refreshing and more realistic. (The Hollywood formula typically would avoid some of the demographics of the characters)
- Surprisingly Good Production Value considering the Producing Company
- Less Political influence than I expected considering the Producing Company
- As a 30yo 6'4" 190 lb Man with no dead parents, I really connected to the Heroine. When she "let her mother go" near the end, I DEFINITELY DIDN'T CRY... maybe a lip quiver. That scene was where the Lead Actress really shined!
Cons:
- Literally 1 line in the script felt forced (very beginning when the Heroine yells at the teen boys in the Jeep)
- Very Graphic
- The characters in the film will be struggling with Lawyer and Court fees for a LONG time...

I came on Metacritic just to see what the critics were saying (as I often do after watching a film) and laughed my a$$ off at the "13" average for critics. As I think about the themes in the film and read that Daily Wire is "conservative," I can only conclude that "critics" are a bunch of political shills who are butt-hurt that this film is so good and need to express their indignation by using frilly over-intellectualized prose to tear it down. Basically, if it's got a "13" average score I'd recommend viewing that as an "87" instead (100-13 = 87). Expand

The premise is entirely believable, the action isn't overdone, the acting is par to good. The one complaint I have issue with is the pacing and density of the plot, as opposed to movies where scenes get lost on the cutting room floor, it's like this movie had to wipe scraps off the floor to fill time, leading to a lot of scenes that would not change the movie overmuch if they did not exist.

I do not understand the negative reviews for this movie. They seem to be centered around the word "exploitative". I can't imagine what a movie could do to portray a school shooting better, with more respect to the parties involved. It seems like the objection, as opposed to something the movie does wrong, is that the movie exists. Your mileage may vary as to whether you think a movie about a school shooting is appropriate, but if your objection is the subject matter, you aren't actually reviewing the movie, are you?

I hate even bringing this up, but this film is controversial, which is just stupid. It is not a politically themed film at all. Any movie aficionado should be dismayed that we can't enjoy good entertainment in our times without being overtly messaged about political themes and the shows that come out that just want to tell a story without bowing to a detestably reductive cultural movement get trashed.

This was a solid film. It's probably not going to end up in most people's top five, but it was good enough I'll undoubtedly watch it again.

Our protagonist, Zoe comes with her fair share of baggage which we see in mostly interesting exchanges with her dead mother and how sometimes life is about letting go. This is an interesting parallel between her and the antagonists of the film who have chosen to let go in a far more destructive way. The film does come with a number of "gut check" moments as well which will likely incite some level of discomfort with people. Given the premise of the plot, that should go without saying but the execution of said moments does a fantastic job of indicating to the audience the gravitas of the situation, providing a sense that the stakes are high. While the ending does come off mildly cliche, it does wrap things up in neat bow. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Very good movie. Good premise, good acting, and ok graphics. A few areas of the movie fell into categories that seemed unrealistic. Unsecured weapons, untreated injuries, press/police relations, military uniforms, etc. Brings a whole new meaning to surviving high school... Expand

Really well done movie. Scary thought of this being able to happen anywhere, even in a small town. The two main protagonist are younger, new actors but they did a GREAT job!!

Without spoiling too much, this is a movie with more going on than might first meet the eye. On the surface it is essentially, as others have mentioned, Die Hard in a high school. A group of mentally needy teens, lead by a Joker-like, leader who sees himself as superior to all, take a high-school hostage. A young woman, who is not dealing well with the loss of her mother to cancer, finds herself in a unique position to become a thorn in the side of this group. On that level alone the film is fairly successful. The acting is believable, the cinematography contrasts between hauntingly beautiful to grittily stark. There is also a very personal element to the story regarding the leading lady, Zoe Hull intensely portrayed by Isabel May. She lost her mother to cancer and is not dealing with it well. Through the course of the events in the film, Zoe has several encounters with the memory of her mother, empathetically played by Radha Mitchell. These moments were some of my favorites. This is not a film for children. On Daily Wire it is rated TVMA, but if it were released theatrically, it would be a definite R. The action is intense and vivid. The story does not hold back. Bad things happen, and they happen on screen, for the most part. As the title of my review states, this is not a perfect film. There are a few things about the story that may not be entirely true to life, but that is true of many films. Those moments are few enough that I did not find them taking me out of the story. Even the bent barrel on a rubber prop gun did not bother me. I didn’t even notice it until it was pointed out to me. One of the moments that I did not think fit exactly was the very ending. I won’t give it away. There was a certain forced poetry to it, but I think it could have been handled a bit better. The moment is what some might have wanted to happen, but in reality would not have gone the way it did in the film. I hope that doesn’t put anyone off of the film. In the end, I really enjoyed it, all 3 times I have watched it… so far. Expand

There wasn’t enough depth or sophistication in the story to make it believable and this left if predictable and quite linear. Yes. They were certainly times you were glued to the screen because of the suspense of killers running around a school. But actually, they didn’t do much or go anywhere so after a while things became static.

Things just felt a little rushed, with the right pacing and the interconnecting part would have flowed better to make a more dynamic film.

I've seen many movies throughout my life, and frankly this one despite its disappointing quality made me think about what we consume as entertainment.

School shootings in the US are all too common, but until now they have been untouchable in terms of the kind of story this film is telling.

Run Hide Fight is basically Hanna meets Die Hard, and while it might be considered in bad taste for such a tragedy to be exploited in an action movie, tragedies of all kinds are exploited in multiple ways in film. Especially in the action genre. For god's sake, we turned the horror of war into entertainment, and yet the school shootings were untouchable, perhaps because they're a reality that feels too palpable, and a film like this also explores the hypocrisy of a society that has done nothing to remedy them.

As a film or entertainment, I do not take anything from this failed attempt, but what has made me reflect is perhaps the biggest gain.

But after that it quickly devolves into an insane and ridiculous mess. It's as if the rest of the movie were directed by a completely different person. Run Hide Fight is a shallow and cringe-inducing cinematic experience with cardboard characters and unsatisfying action scenes.

Now let's be real here for a second. The only reason this movie is relevant at all is because of who is behind it. It's all politics. People here who are insisting it's not political and that is has no agendas either have no idea what they're talking about, or they're commenting in bad faith. The entire point of this movie is politics. It's to push a certain political agenda. So don't be a weasely little coward and just admit it. And I'll be honest: I was biased against it. But it's a bad movie regardless. And it's really pathetic how they created fake accounts to spam 10/10 ratings. Seriously, check the accounts who rated it 10/10. Most were created just to give it a high rating and they don't have any other account activity.

If you were to take out of the equation the terrible people with awful political views behind this movie, you'd only be left with a subpar and mediocre action thriller. No one would care about it. This is the sort of movie you find in the $1 movie bin at your local mall. There are many other movies out there that do much better what this movie is trying to do.

I won't lie, it made me angry, I did come into this movie with low expectations because Ben Shapiro, but this felt more than just the weird conservative Christian ideas shoved in, this tended to be just completely unbelievable, and I feel as if a lot of the characteristics were almost intentionally done, not to mention the record of the studio behind this and just I can't structure much more together because I can't really find a way to summarize how much i hate this

Tldr, this movie is very vile to me, and I really feel like you shouldn't watch this movie that I think might be trying to push weird ideas in a totally unrealistic situation.

The idea of vengeful retribution could have been explored in a more gradual sense - however, there is a lack of nuance in the characterisation as each character represents a trope. This is likely a result of the script rather than poor acting.

I don't oppose movies with obvious political agendas with which I may not personally agree, but this movie is a stretch to the point where it seeks not to represent a political agenda to convince others, but rather to appeal to those who already have hardcore, pro-2A views. A real hit and miss on that point.

If I had to say one good thing about this film, it's the cinematography. A genuinely interesting use of light and filters. Sadly, it does not save a film that is fundamentally poorly-written and designed to appeal to an echo chamber.

BUT 0/10 BECAUSE THIS IS PRO GUN PROPAGANDA WITH PROPABLY 95% FAKE REVIEWS.

I thought after seeing this movies rating on IMDb that this would be a good movie, it was barely watchable…

After watching it I went to read the reviews and found that this movie is rated positively mostly by people that have reviewed only this movie, and people that have rated it negatively mostly had other written reviews also.

I think that some organisation has encouraged its members to write positive reviews about this movie, and I also think that this movie was written and funded mostly by NRA and friends. (i hope i'm wrong and these are just stupid people with too much money)

If you watch, remember that ~1% of all people are schizophrenic (~3.3 million from U.S.A)
and thus guns should not be available to civilians (if at all), among other reasons like alcohol abuse, domestic violence and ego.

THIS MOVIE MADE ME LOSE SOME OF MY HOPE FOR HUMANITY

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This film is a complete mess. It's basically just social media bad with the romanticization of school shootings. All the characters were unrealistic and forgettable.
Zoe Hull, like most republicans, is a crazy schizophrenic.
A 0.8mm thick metal locker is not going to shield someone from multiple gunshots.
She was shot in the leg but could run immediately after and then moved around at a fast pace continuously throughout the rest of this trainwreck.
She put the belt on her gunshot leg wound which would not stop the blood loss, meaning she shouldn't have been able to do most of the things she did in her film.
With her blood loss and the number of activities Zoe did after, eg, running from multiple shooters, running to help people out of the school, etc, she should have tired out and passed out.
This all points to her plot armour as the main character and made the film hard to watch and suspend my disbelief. The acting wasn't very good, most lines and their deliveries were unnatural. Basically, if you want some poorly written, poorly acted right-wing propaganda about how social media bad, guns good and leftists being delusional, watch this film.
