I wouldn't buy that for a dollar! It's like they tried to jam as much violence and 2014 Hollywood action into the 100 minute running time still trying to keep it at a PG-13 rating. Still, it had some good moments.

This movie was semi-decent. The action sequences were good but I'm still questioning some of the plot decisions they took. Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton do the best with what they were given. It is what it is...an action movie.

It was... Alright. The action scenes and concept are pretty cool, and the struggle of being a robot is explored in it. However, there are also quite a few things I did not like...

-Robocop, as cool as he looks and acts, is overall not that Interesting a character. His actor is bland and emotionless, which I guess is implied, but it overall steals from the emotion and depth of the story.

- the plot jumps around, like, a lot. It first starts out showing how US robot drones are terrorizing citizens over seas, but by the end, robo cop is on a vendetta against the guy who made him, and it has nothing to do with the first premise. To put it bluntly, the movie lacks focus.

-some of the acting in this movie is really bad. The jerky weapons guy is bad, the guys wife is 'eh', the doctor who made Robocop is kinda bad, robocops partner is AWFUL, and Robocop himself just doesn't get enough focus to be an interesting character.

So yeah, overall, Robocop is a 'so-so' flick. Sure, it has good fight scenes, an interesting concept, and a pretty in depth look at how being a hero can turn political. But it also doesn't spend enough time building Robocop's character, and lacks the focus on a single story to be a good tale. It's not something I would really recommend, but I did, for the most part, enjoy it, and there are definitely worse movies out there.

Same concept, but nearly totally different movie. I am not going to go into what makes the two different. Just watch the movie presents and let it stand on its own.

Frankly, this is just an ok movie. The story is ok. The action is ok. The special effects are ok. If this were a summer movies, don't bother and save your money. But, since this is Feb and not much going on with action movies in the winter, it might be worth $11. They should have added some more humor. It will be interesting if they make a sequel and how they develop the character. They did set a nice base for character development. The acting was very good, esp Gary Oldman. Jackie Haley was pretty decent with his boring character. Joel was ok and likable, but boring and that is how it was written.

Bottom line is it is an ok film and at this time if you like action type movies it is worth your money to see it, but do not expect a fun movie.

Majority of people who have seen the original going into this film will probably strongly dislike or downright hate it for turning the bloody, vicious world of RoboCop PG-13, but, if you can take the film for what it is and where it stands as its own work, then there are things to be enjoyed. I would not rush out to see it, but catching it on a matinee or a second run theater would not be a complete waste of time or money. Expand

RoboCop 2014 it's a prude approach that focuses on the political and social topics in a context where there isn't any real need of RoboCop's existence. Which is its most critical flaw in my opinion; the lack of a reason that drives the plot and main character. When I say it's prude I'm not talking about the rating or violence, I'm talking about the feel of the movie. It's one of those flicks that tries to deliver a message and be more intellectual but, unlike the original RoboCop, this one doesn't do it in an enjoyable way, at least not if you went to the theaters expecting to see action. That's another weak point of this movie, it fails to balance character development with action. By the time Robo's done dealing with his existential problems and the action begins, the movie's over. I watched this movie twice, the first time I thought it was okay so I watched it a second time hoping it would be one those movies that grows on you. It isn't. RoboCop 2014 is an okay movie based on the script of another one that's still perfectly valid in its original version and doesn't need a remake nor reboot. Though it feels more like a fan movie, it's still the most decent RoboCop entry made after the original, not that the previous sequels set the bar very high either. It wasn't worth the waiting but it could have been worse. Expand

However in terms of story and plot I feel the movie is somehow lacking, maybe its the sudden cuts inbetween situations which end rather abruptly or the fact the movie lacks the "feel" of the first.

I think its the lack of character depth which spoils the movie from being just another action flick to one I will watch time and time again, robocop himself is not a "machine" as in the first movie but basically a cyborg with a completely grounded human element.
whereas in the original movie he was "born" a machine and most of the movie was based on him finding his missing human element In this installment the main point of the film seems to be robo battles with very little if any depth to of the characters, they tried I give them that, but the main focus was solely on action as any scenes dealing with "emotion" were quickly interrupted by a hail of bullets and fire.

Its a good one to watch on a weekend for the battles but for any meaningful story give it a miss.

Let me mention that I only vaguely remember the first one, as I watched it loo-ong time ago. Based on this memory I think the first one was more bad ass, but this one also tries to be emotional and too explanatory thus the "badassness" is slightly subdued. The acting is strong, although, as if, the movie itself fails to demand from the actors. For once, never mind the lowish score and go give it a chance! Expand

Although it brings the idea of RoboCop into the 21st century, the film lacks any flare or innovation for a long dormant franchise. If this movie was not called robocop, for me it would be a 9/10.
Why did they try to revive a movie that is about corporate greedy and dehumanization and replace for american guilty over inhumane killing machines? It was a good trashy movie, leave it alone!
The action is incredible, the camerawork makes you feel tense withAlex, everyone is great, even michael keaton seems comfortable in the movie!
But this s*** tries to be Robocop so bad and fails hard! PG-13? Really?

I remember the original 1987 movie as being pretty cool. This version does have some very cool future tech, but that's about it. There's too much debate about ethical merits and other political/moral crap and not nearly enough ass-kicking. What action there is lacks focus or any inventive staging. Kinnaman (you might know him from "The Killing") plays it very serious and the supporting cast is equally earnest. The opening sequence in Tehran and the introduction of the robot equipment creates a promising start, but the movie bogs down in needless chatter and dull drama. Expand

Whether or not this new RoboCop lives up to the old is something I do not know, but I can tell you despite some impressive aspects I feel this movie falls short. The plot features entertaining back and forth political maneuvering between certain characters as well as some good social commentary. However it all falls short thanks to how simple and under delivered it's morals are. At the very least though this allows Samuel Jackson to play a character who steals the show every time he comes on screen.

The real downfall of the movie is how little action there is in it. The action is well shot and mostly entertaining, there's just too little of it which leaves to a rather dry feeling movie. I do see potential in this new RoboCop, and hope if there's a sequel that things will be done right. With more action of a higher quality and some tighter plot elements this could have been something really great. Sadly I found myself wishing for more throughout the entire film. It's not bad, just lackluster. Still turned out better than I was expecting though. My total score is a 5.8/10=Mediocre.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You don't go in expecting much of a remake of a fairly iconic 80's film. But Robocop 2014 does provide some decent visuals and some good moments from actors Joel Kinnaman as Robo, Michael Keaton as the head of Omnicorp and Gary Oldman as the mad scientist. Some strong secondary characters fill out the cast. The allusions to Frankenstein are many. The awkward emotional family tie in wears thin. The action sequences are few and are somewhat uninspired. The worst parts by far are the Samuel Jackson segments of a mock CNN style political chat show. These become torture as the film plods along and drag the film down. Overall, its a decent ride but somewhere the fun and excitement got sucked out of it. You leave the theater thinking: "That Spiderman 2 trailer before the film was really good!" Expand

The reboot is played painfully straight, with the only whiffs of humour coming from Jackson’s TV segments and the odd deliberate homage to a one-liner from 1987’s RoboCop. And there’s absolutely no sense that the Detroit of 2028 is a cesspool of crime. Hell, it looks a lot better than the Detroit of 2014. (Probably due to much of the movie being shot in Toronto and Vancouver.) Reboots shouldn’t slavishly imitate their predecessors, but what made the original RoboCop so memorable was its violence, its satire, its depiction of this seedy, awful world rotting from within. What we have here is a competent if not exactly memorable sci-fi action movie. A movie that is RoboCop in name only. Expand

First and foremost: remakes have been apart of cinema for a long time and are not going away. Some are carbon copies, some are re-imaginings and others are influenced but quite different. This film falls into the re-imagining category.

By no means should we accept them, they should be criticized and scrutinized for even being done in the first place, how relevant it is, if it's any good, and does do anything different. Comparing them whilst inevitable isn't always a good idea, i.e. because nostalgia will interfere and therefore affect how we experience the remake. In our minds we will nearly always prefer the previous version as it is more familiar to us and recalls often fond memories. What I'm trying to say is this film should be judged one it's own merits and not be compared to the original.

Pure entertainment. That's all this is. Seriously you can pic this movie apart quite easily. It is not amazing nor is it a giant turd. Is it relevant? The use of the Novac Element TV show in the film (aka Fox News) blatantly presents biased information to promote an agenda. The idea of the USA having imperialistic interests is rather obvious in this world and the real one, but many people do not acknowledge and accept this or is dismiss it entirely. This pretext used to present a future with robots as the tool of an empire is quite clever and is foreseeable.

Unfortunately this premise isn't enough to keep the audience enthralled. We simply sit comfortably and watch what unfolds. We don't really care what happens. Though we realize what to expect as the film proceeds and does become predictable. Could we really expect this film to do anything different? No of course not.

Credit goes to Samuel L. Jackson (or is it Laurence Fishburne? haha) for portraying a charismatic TV host, displaying narcissism and anger in a very believable and entertaining way. Likewise Gary Oldman as a scientist with a heart and having altruistic motives that compromises his values for opportunity and a secure future is very realistic and relateable. Michael Keaton is also noteworthy as the boss of OCP that is determined to find the product for Americans no matter the cost.

I rather enjoyed the special effects and CGI. Production values appeared quite high and I didn't notice anything bad, wrong or cheap. There is one scene that is rather confronting and impressively done mid-way through which made me feel some sympathy; I heard a person or two in the cinema giggle instead (which may be a coping mechanism to such a confrontational moment). It must be said that most of the science present is the Hollywood version of science which convenient fits the narrative is not meant to be taken seriously.

As the film draws to it's conclusion you conceive what will happen and it delivers. No surprises except that Robocops partner has a talent for being shot in non fatal areas. I wouldn't want him as my partner.

Don't expect too much.

The 2014 movie is way too toned down, the original had a lot of senseless violence in a apathic society. That was the fun of it, we had stuff like the magnavolt commercial and the ED-209 boardroom shooting to set the tone. The bits with Samuel L. Jackson try to put a spin this, but it isn't utilized properly.

They should have ditched the PG-13 rating to give this movie the proper tone it needed.

Though i have to admit that the use of updated technologies like tracking cellphones and drone enforcers was pretty nice. Also, the process where Murphy was adapting to his new body was also handled pretty well.

In short, this movie has very little of what made the original great.

So Padilha has his task cut out for him, could he satisfy both factions?
Unfortunately the answer is no and it would be surprising if either group were satisfied with the finished product. It seems like yet another case of the-man-behind-the-curtain syndrome, most notably in the decision to aim for a PG13 rating, against Padilha's wishes, in order to ensure a film that went severely over budget recoups some of its investment. I agree that graphic violence is not necessary in order to make a good action movie, just look at The Dark Knight or Star Trek, but RoboCop falls short of the mark here and delivers a very placid final product. It can be argued that's what happens when the creative control is limited but perhaps hiring a director who's previous work is rated 18+ was the greater mistake.
The cast however is strong and Kinnaman(The Killing) executes his role efficiently, with support from veteran actors Oldman, Keaton and Jackson but even this solid foundation seemed somewhat hollow. In a throwback to the satirical nature, that flowed seamlessly throughout the original, Jackson's portrayal of the rhetoric spewing media mogul appears a little disjointed and does little to add to an already inferior reboot.
In total RoboCop 2014 does its best to recreate a character that criminals of Detroit should fear but in the end only offers us a modern day Tin-Man and by the closing credits I could not help but think, 'I wouldn't buy that for a dollar'.

RoboCop is a movie for 3 year olds because of fact that a 3 year old can't guess what is about too happen. I was looking forward too see this remake of a classic wonderful movie. Considering the amount of children in the theatre laughing and pointing at the scene of a girl with her bra on. I knew that this movie was only good for immature teens. Although the horrible experience I had, the movie did have a emotional side too it. Which made it a ok movie. I would recommend to see this movie with your child or a friend. Not by yourself. Expand

Although a solid reboot with nice effects, movie is very predictable and lacks thrills the original had. Just another generic blockbuster flick than leaves you in the middle of the road to catch a ride back home.

The cast is strong; Joel Kinnaman has a good bit of presence on screen, but playing a character defined by his robotic, in-human qualities is hardly a task any actor would relish. Keaton and Oldman are fine, as is Abby Cornish in a pretty thankless role as the put-upon wife. The story never really engages, and for all it's puffed-up social commentary, it struggles to drive home its point. Expand

Underwhelming springs to mind. Some good action sequences saved me from rating this film lower. Samuel L. Jackson's appearance seems quite irrelevant to the story. Robocop is portrayed well and it is easy to empathise with his character Murphy.

Chances are if you saw the Original RoboCop with Peter Weller in the Movie Theater, like me, you were pretty blown away by it...

It's nice that they are 'trying' to bring it back... this one isn't that bad but the wife and kid are still around, and those 4 bad guys in the original film aren't around.

Remember that line?

"Can you fly, Bobby!"

Michael Keaton is in it, and I haven't seen him in a movie since Batman, although I did see him once about 15 years ago at My Neighborhood Ralphs.

The story retains the essential structure"Robocop" was one of the most remarkable trilogies of the eighties, and it marked the collective memory of those who lived that time. Even those who haven't seen the movies have surely heard of them. The story retains the essential structure that had been shown in the previous films, which makes me think about why they made this movie if they didn't show a new story. The answer is natural: profit. Anyway, there are some differences between this film and its predecessors. Most obviously, a major effort was made here to humanize what used to be a kind of unfeeling cyborg, that simply performed tasks for which it had been programmed. Another difference is that we watch the design and construction of the robot, as well as the motives and intentions behind it. It's clear the commercial interest, as well as the way the industry takes advantage of an injured man to conquer a new market. Another striking difference is the end of dystopian satire to urban society presented so far: the older films featured Robocop as a law response to a violent escalation of crime in an increasingly inhumane and savage urban world, while here he's only a mean to reach a new market by a large multinational.

Joel Kinnaman played a decent Robocop, with some human traits but no emotion or obvious psychological conflict. Michael Keaton is a good villain, a self-seeking man who doesn't look to the means to achieve his financial goals. Gary Oldman is the most humane side of the industry who creates Robocop, and he manages to get out of the job even though there is no effort in betting on his inner or psychological conflicts. Abbie Cornish is the actress who has shown greater ability to demonstrate her psychology, but her character specifically serves this purpose. Samuel L. Jackson is a good actor, but I honestly didn't understand the purpose of his character. At a technical level, good CGI reigns in this film but that could be expected. Soundtrack, unfortunately, is quite forgettable.

This movie, made for quick profit, is an unnecessary remake of a good trilogy of the 80's that isn't yet worn out by time. So its almost impossible not to make comparisons. Without much emotion or tension, the film lacks psychological depth and is utterly devoid of satire, though it weaves several harsh criticisms of how certain industries may be impersonal and inhumane. Curiously, one criticism the film doesn't do is that the robot is made in the new American mega-factory... China. We are well aware that companies (and not just US) like to exploit cheap labor of Eastern countries, but to see this on film is some bad taste.

The fact they tried so hard to make a movie that was one of the most goriest films back than now making it 'kid friendly' is a joke.

Not to mention its overall story is cliche, and you can see the fact the detectives and the chief being the traitor right away. So many films/movies are doing this too. It needs to be the entire station or majority not just the chief and two others. Super troopers got it right and it was a freaking comedy.

At the same time it does have its own little touch to it that makes it feel nice. Would I watch it again? Maybe if someone wanted to, it wasn't overly bad and I kinda want to see the rest of the world under OCP possibly.

In the original, the plot and the characters were fantastic but the direction and effects were plagued with the typical 80's garbage that ruined so many potentially great films of that decade. This movie had decent effects and improved acting, at least from Abbie Cornish, who delivered a great performance, and Michael Keaton, but they ruined what made the plot fantastic. Ultimately, a great story with terrible acting and effects will always be better than a horrible story with fancy editing. Overall I was very disappointed. Expand

Is this another reboot which is worse than the original? Categorically yes. The original Robocop is a biting satire of its time, projecting corporate greed and industry run amok into the future.
The new robocop is about something. I guess there is supposed to be some kind of issue at what point do people loose their humanity and just become machines. Somewhere it went wrong though because its execution makes for a forgettable if not outright bad flick. But this is a flick.
Gary Oldman gives a terrific performance, and Michael Keaton goes above and beyond as the visionary CEO of OCP. He's far too likable for the 3rd act radical twist. It actually seems out of character for both the actor and the character when that happens.
I'd say the 3rd act twist is so poorly executed audiences will wonder why Robocop is turning on his masters so suddenly. Although admittedly the special effects extravaganza which follows is quite the thing to see.
I appreciate they wanted to appeal to wider audiences, and thus went for a PG 13 rating but that was clearly a mistake. It leaves the fight scenes too sanitized to have any real impact.
And as much as Samuel L. Jackson is a terrific charismatic actor, it was a mistake for all the news scenes to be by him. In the original film the brief news clip bits effectively portray the world in a subtly bias, and comedic way. Samuel L. Jackson portraying an amalgamation of right wing news pundits is monstrous, yet less effective because it is coming from such a clearly bias source. And you really feel it is less a news show and more an lazy narration directed at the viewer.
The character of the wife is one note. Maybe she should be more panicked in one scene, more concerned in another. Instead of a generic sad emotional mess.
All and all. Don't pay top dollar for this film when it comes out on DVD. It'll be in the $5 or less bin soon enough.

No one, not even Peter Weller the original Robocop. The action is over the top yet boring, and don't approah this film with any knowledge of science because it'll make your head explode from the amount of stupidity it throws at you. Just wait until you see Alex Murphy outside of his Robocop body ;) The acting is boring and not done very well across the board with two exceptions: Sam Jackson plays a Chris Matthews/Hardball-type News Analyst and does a damn good job at it, and Gary Oldman as Dr. Dennett Norton is superb. Unfortunately the same can't be said about Michael Keaton as OCP's #1 guy who seems completely uninterested in the film. Likewise Joel Kinnaman falls flat throughout the movie and often comes across as trying too hard to do a Peter Weller impression. This is a dumb popcorn movie which tries to make some political statements about the use of drones in today's Obama War on Terror world. Yet it doesn't do a very good job of it at all and so it should be taken with a grain of salt and watched with a tuned out brain. Expand

The things that made the original robocop was... among other things his trademark chrome and black suit, and because of it's absence through most of the movie, I think the movie could be easily mistaken for many other films in todays cluttered market, this could be batman movie, it could be an iron man movie, it could even be a T mobile commercial... but I digress if you like this movie I apologize for my harsh criticism It just was not for me. some people really liked this movie, but I have the right to my own opinion and while I respect all your opinions I cant say this film was really enjoyable for me, but then again you might like it, so don't skip it just because I say so, watch it and make a post on here of what you thought.

I mean the story could easily be retold and the visual that modern effects can would make the movie look awesome. Yet even with a good good story to tell Hollywood still messed it up. They went from bashing commercialism to talking about how bad technology is, or how good it is, the movie does not make it's view vary clear. The movie seems to want to make the viewer hate technology but at the end it states the opposite making the viewer vary confused. The worst sin that this movie commits however is the fact that it is lame. The action is slow and boring along with the fact that there is few action scenes to see. This is bad because fast based action is what the original was known for. In conclusion if your looking to see a good action movie watch the original and stay far away from this piece of crab. Expand

First, I love the original Robocop and it's first sequel, but I couldn't let those two facts play into my viewing of this movie. I wanted to take it on it's own merit. It starts off alright we see the US in Iran with drones, one of them being ED-209 from the original, we get some decent action topped off with what's supposed to be a shock moment then we move into Detroit. This is where the movie begins to fall apart for me. The big argument as to why they need a Robocop is because Detroit is plagued by crime, yet in the scenes of Detroit they show us the city looks like it's doing great. The sun is always shining, there's no visible urban decay, we get no shots of random crimes or violence. The most we get is a scene where we're introduced to Alex Murphy and his partner undercover buying rifles from some guy. Hell, the film crew could've just drove around real life Detroit and captured all the decay and violence they needed without having to resort to sets. Everything just seemed too clean and okay, that also goes for the police station Alex worked in. For a city laid to waste by crime the police station seems quite enough to be a station in Podunk, Iowa. There were no shots of other officers bringing in gang members or hookers, there were no citizens damanding the police do something about the crime in their neighborhoods. Again, Detroit just seem like an ideal place to live in this movie, thus eliminating the need for Robocop. As for the actors in this movie only Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton are worth mentioning. The guy playing Murphy is bad, his wife and child are horrible actors, if we can't connect to Murphy then we're just watching a tin man ride around and pout. And yes I said pout, Robo seems to do a lot of that in this movie. I get it being turned into a machine would suck for some people, but you're a cop who's just been turned into a superhero, you're not confined to a wheelchair or stuck in a bed for the rest of your life. Robo cries about this to and beyond the point of annoyance add together the scenes of awkward interaction with his dull family and you'll be letting out tons of yawns. The supporting cast outside of Oldman and Keaton are 100% forgettable, aside from knowing Murphy's partners name none of these characters stick in your head. Now on to the effects, while good for the most part some shots made me feel like I should have been pressing "A" to skip. Since this is the future we have to see people using float screens and being able to control and manipulate them by waving their hands. There are humanoid drones who react better than humans and every aspect of life seems to be captured by CCTV cameras. It was hard to suspense disbelief since they only set this movie in 2028. It would be a little more believeable if it was set in say 2050 or higher. And since cameras are everywhere doesn't it seem difficult to pull off crimes if you're being watched in nearly every place you're in, thus eliminating the need for Robocop. Just watch what people are doing on the cameras and send police to the scene since you're watching a crime in progress. Also we're shown this exoskeleton worn by military to help on the battlefield, I'm assuming it makes you a little faster and stronger so why didn't they just take that put some light armor plating on it and give it to the police? Thus eliminating the need for Robocop since you can give officers the gear to make them stronger and tougher than the criminals. Robocop almost doesn't make sense in his own world in this movie, if you wanted to put a machine on the streets of America so your evil company can make more money you've already proven you can make the exoskeleton, so why make Robocop and go through all the hassles. The story is dull and predictable too since a multi-billion dollar company is involved you know they're going to be the final bad guy, it just takes so long for the movie to get to the point where Robo brings down said company your just glad it's over. And that's how I felt once the credits started I was glad it was over. This could've been a good action movie, but there's so many boring scenes and even the action scenes seem tame. Like something pulled from a video game cutscene. As it stands on it's own Robocop 2014 is dull and boring, as part of the Robocop line it's worse than Robocop 3. At least that movie is so bad it'll have you laughing. Expand

It is dreadful to see what you have made of the ingenious template with Peter Weller. Although it has built many good CGI effects and good action scenes, the film disappointed down the line. Robocop himself is really bad embodies, so that you could poke each kipper actor in the suit. All other roles are filled with big names but convince any more. The plot is a joke. Murphy is a robot and he continues to behave like a man. Since it was still credible in the original. There, Murphy broke off contact with the family and was officially dead yet many other points in the film are a disaster but I get upset otherwise too much on. It's a shame what you did from Robocop.

The only thing that it had going for it, but sadly crushed it to pieces after the first 20 minutes, was the concept on how the United States reacted to machines controlling the general population of humans on the U.S compared to how they were using them in other countries, The Senate voting and all the drama surrounding the issue that was much more enjoyable than the rest of the movie. Many negatives like terrible acting, (Samuel L. Jackson was the best in the movie, so that says something), terrible writing which got pretty silly at times and cliche, bland characters and character development, and most of all terrible action sequences. NOTHING in this movie even got me scared to see Robocop died (which I would've rather seen so the movie would finish faster) I don't even know how this movie got passed by Columbia Pictures, but this is just absurd. Right when you think the movie will go into the right way or story, the cast and crew just say NOPE straight out with this terrible excuse of a "remake". If Hollywood keeps making remakes like these, well then I won't be watching any remakes any time soon... 2/10. (Only watchable if you are drunk) Expand

This was one of the most insultingly stupid movies I've ever watched. How anyone gave this one a pass, or even more than a score of 3 here, is beyond me, and makes me consider suicide. Let me elaborate.
I'd like to start off by saying that I saw the movie just now. I did want to go to the cinema to see it, but I decided not to, as I'm not a Robocop fan. But I was excited for it, even more so than my friends who are actual Robocop fans - I liked Robocop's new design, the direction the trailers were showing off... but apperantly, all that had to go do the trash bin. Except the new suit, which was the only good thing in this movie.
To be frank - the worst thing that happened to this movie, is the Director's vision. His vision was totally wrong, the movie was shot so terribly for an action flick, I don't even know how this dude graduated, if he has even ever considered studying film making. If not, sir Jose Padiha, you need to. A lot. Because what you did to this movie is atrocious. Ugly drama shots, overexposed and too long shots of things that overall do not matter to the plot, no comedy relief in a movie struglling with itself... I have no words to express my anger. How does someone as obviously ungifted as this guy get to direct this big of a movie is simply unexplainable.
On the acting side we have nothing too - we have almost no one good and fitting. And why is Samuel Jackson there? For a poster name, duh. Joel Kinnaman does a good job as Robocop, though not memorable, he was tolerable and likable. But beyond that - everyone else was absolutely useless.
Also, the script was extremely weak. I can, on the spot, think up a much better script than what was offered. Not that the original RoboCop had a brilliant one, but it had much more to go for than that.
I also want to point out, that one of the musical tracks used in this movie is a stolen track from Howard Drossin's OST of Splatterhouse (2009) - it was simply a tad reworked. Even if they did pay for it, it was so obvious that it ruined the whole scene it was used in for me, because not only was it a re-used track, but also the reworked version they used caused the original track to use all of it's appeal.
And to top it all off - the ending was so stupid, I lack the words to even try and talk about it. Worst ending ever - that's all I can say.
I didn't enjoy this movie at all. It was one of the worst movies I've ever watched, and I seriously am sorry for all the Robofans out there.
Just another heap of junk - a pile of ruined potential, courtesy of Hollywood. Also, Jose Padiha - I hope you retire soon, or get actual education. For your own sake.

All in all:

Acting - 2/5 - Not memorable, Samuel Jackson just along for the cash, obviously. Nice Alex Murphy though.
Directing - 2/5 - the worst thing that could have happened to this movie. It's not bad, it just doesn't go well with the whole concept. Further more - this movie contains the worst ending ever shot. Ever.
Script - 1/5 - so many missed out opportunites...
OST - -1/5 - stolen and generic.
Enjoyment - 0/5 - I did not enjoy a single moment of this movie. It was too long, too dramatic, in conflict with itself and simply terrible.

Overall: 1/5 - terrible CGI-fest of a movie that has no other reason to exist than to cash in on a famous name. The only good thing in it was the new Robocop Suit Design, which I, personally, like.

I only gave it a rating of 2 because of the special effects. The story itself is utter nonsense, the plot makes no sense at all and it's so badly acted it's painful to watch this mess. The original is far from perfect with it's cheesy dialogues but it at least is a lot of fun, the storyline is understandable and clear, the baddies are well defined and everything that's happening makes sense. The remake is anything but. At first, I've been glad that the new RoboCop wasn't just a re-shooting of the old story, copying it scene after scene. After 30 minutes in, I changed my mind and wanted it to be a perfect one-on-one copy of the old story. Because even the lamest recreation would've been so much more fun to watch than this garbage. I refuse to sympathise with anyone who considers to give this dribble such a high score. There is so much wrong with this film that it hurts my brain just to think about it. I love the original but this film is like someone pulled their pants down and took a massive **** all over it in public. I can honestly say that this is the worst film I have seen this year. So rather than put all of my reason for my hatred of this film into a detailed essay I'll simply write a list of things that ****ed up one of my favourite franchises for me.
1. The acting is terrible
2. The main character is completely unlikeable
3. It's tedious as hell
4. The writing
5. The pacing
6. COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY SHAKY-CAM ****ING STOP DOING THIS IN FILMS
7. It's pointless - clearly just a cash in
8. Opening sequence is way overcomplicated
9. Massive plot holes
10. The ED-209's here are way underpowered
11. Lacks any effective humour or violence from the original
12. Horrible dialogue
13. Tries to be badass but fails miserably
14. Hate most of the characters (especially the ones who we're supposed to like)
15. **** excuse for the use of the "dead or alive you're coming with me line"
That's not even it but it's overall a big **** you to fans of the original so everyone who gives this even a remotely positive rating needs to shut the **** up. Sorry, but you cannot begin to know how much I hate this **** film.

Peccato. Il film originale del 1987 è molto meglio

The 'action' is so cheesy its laughable and some of the acting is cringeworthy. The original is so, so, much better. This pointless cash in of a remake isn't a scratch on the original film. Expand

I know who they were going for now... people called Reginald who would take a flask of earl grey tea with them to the theator.. "Oooh crivens that robotic fellow jumped very highly indeed."

For your own good don't waste your time. They set out to make a completely different take on Robocop which is fair enough, I don't have a problem with that... It's just that it's absolutely crap. Very slow and boring.. The pacing is like watching paint dry and the action is just little random flecks of dust sticking to that paint. Better if you bought the toy and stared at it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When this movie was in production i made the prediction that it would be like the transformer movies, beautiful to behold but totally without a soul and boy did it deliver on that. It had none of what made the original a classic. The pg13 rating to the beat with a hammer into your head political message(which needs to stop i watch movies to be entertained not to be preached at) this movie fails in almost every category except how stereotypically bad sequels usually are. Everybody involved should be stripped naked taped to chairs and forced to watch the original while being cattle prodded till they see the light. But yea the movie was bad 1 outta 10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This "reboot" of an R-Rated filmed is now rated PG-13. Now, this wouldn't be a bad thing if Robocop wasn't too violent. But from I remember in the original Robocop from 1987, Alex Murphy gets his limbs and hands blown off, his hand shot, his legs shot, and a bullet to his brain, all of which is incredible, non-stop gore. So what happens in this PG-13 failure-of-a-reboot? A car blows up. That's the worst it gets. No blood, no gore, no excessive swearing and death. If you wanna see Robocop at his best, just watch the original, it's funny and it actually makes some sense. Expand
