Tarantino's debut is still arguably his most powerful. "Reservoir Dogs" shows a rathe timid Tarantino in the beginning of his career, but that doesn't mean it's lesser than his later films. "Reservoir Dogs" packs a mean punch full of violence, obscenities, and hilarity all into very fast crime thriller that is sure to get your adrenaline pumping. "Reservoir Dogs" does lack what makes Tarantino's later films somewhat better; a brilliant screenplay. I would love to see Tarantino redo "Reservoir Dogs" now that his confidence in directing and writing has grown considerably. However, this is a fantastic cult film that should be watched by every lover of the cinema.… Expand

As the camera circles and observes the scene, it's clear to see the talent involved in 'Reservoir Dogs', director and writer Quentin Tarantino is one of those men sitting at the table, alongside Michael Madsen, Harvey Keitel, Steve Buscemi,As the camera circles and observes the scene, it's clear to see the talent involved in 'Reservoir Dogs', director and writer Quentin Tarantino is one of those men sitting at the table, alongside Michael Madsen, Harvey Keitel, Steve Buscemi, Lawrence Tierney and Tim Roth amongst others, they are well dressed in black suits and are having a rather crude discussion surrounding the Madonna song "Like a Virgin". These men don't know each other, but they share chemistry over coffee, but we soon learn that they have reason for being there, a jewellery story heist that we see in flashbacks, because for most of the film, we have a lot of dialogue taking place in the warehouse that was the agreed rendezvous, but you can now judge from this wording that it all goes horribly wrong, and as a few start to appear at the warehouse with various theories as to what went wrong, the most prominent of these being an informant within the pack, injuries and deaths have happened, and now they must find out what truth there is to the 'rat' business. The unfortunate shortcomings of the film lie with its characters having little intrigue or prospect about them, the plot revolves around them, but at the same time it revolves more around trying to find out what went wrong, the plot is intriguing, but not enough time is spent working up a point to each 'colour', each man being called a different one so as to protect their names, but that isn't to say the performances aren't immense, with Madsen almost stealing the show with his cold and collective attitude, each time he's about to speak is edgy because of his unpredictability and menacing demeanour. Keitel is the level headed one who looks after Roths character after he is shot. There are plenty of surprises and shocks along the way, while introductions to the characters through flashbacks intertwine well with the main arc of the warehouse, but we don't have particularly witty or mesmerising dialogue, the script relies on its characters and its conclusion of figuring out the problems of the heist. Tarantino is a proven marvel when it comes to unique filmmaking, this film was the kick off to some dark humour such as Madsens "Mr Blonde" toying with his victim as he dances to "Stealers Wheel", it funny but frightening, we have no idea what is about to happen, and Tarantino has carried on this witty and quick fire shooting that captures smaller but significant details that matter. This isn't his finest work, but here we get a crisp and sharp introduction to the technique and capabilities of Tarantino, he assembles quite the sought after cast with equally impressive performances, and a soundtrack that works well with the darkly humorous script, not as tight as it should be but still a cut above most, it talks perhaps a little too much, but never becomes boring or stale.… Expand

i fully admire his efforts on the story and direction.
Everybody just did a great job.Joe,Eddie and our prominent colors steals the show.
Infrequent violence scenes make it powerful and the acting is just over the top.Screenplay rules.
I really liked everyone but Steve Buscemi,Tim Roth and Harvey Keitel just steals the show.
This movie starts the style of Tarantino's long conversation about pop culture,daily and criminal activities which people enjoys till now.
Especially,the infamous cop-torture scene and the when Mr. Pink shoots at cops repeatedly are too good.
This is a perfect crime movie.
It's that kind of movie ,you can see 10 times ,if you liked it.
It was my first non-linear story line Hollywood movie ,they did it so perfectly that now i love this kind.
It's fast pace wouldn't let you bore for one freaking second.
People who love to see crime movies will surely adore it.
Everything is so great which make this flick unforgettable.… Expand

My all time favourite film. It's an amazing crime story that every Tarantino fan must see. It's amazing how a movie who takes place in one specific room can be so entertaining and awesome. Also, the soundtrack is the best ever! Great film! Must see!

This is your perfect example of people liking something strictly because it's different. Other than the acting, which was actually very good, everything else about the movie was mediocre. Quentin Tarantino thinks that you can simply use chaos to replace good storytelling and that's just not the case. This is a cult classic but like most of those, it's majorly overrated. Outside of the opening scene, nothing about the movie was entertaining in any way and really could've been told just as well in 20 minutes. Honestly, that's what Tarantino does. He takes a 15 minute story and fools the audience into thinking it's a halfway decent movie by using over an hour of fluff to fill out time between the constant back-and-forth of the plot. The acting and the opening scene earned the movie a 5/10. Anything more than that and people are just lying to themselves because they want to feel part of the cult following.… Expand

I loved this movie and I enjoyed watching it. The cast was good and it was interesting. Yet the film is a bit too predictable and that sort of ruined it a little. I would still recommend it though.

Definitely up there with Pulp Fiction as Tarantino's best. Reservoir Dogs is simply brilliant in all aspects. It is very brash, abrasive and unrelenting, but works tremendously with that sort of tone. The cinematography is very good I think,Definitely up there with Pulp Fiction as Tarantino's best. The cinematography is very good I think, and the soundtrack is very appropriate and fitting. The story is wonderfully compelling, while the dialogue is very hard-boiled and attitude-laced with plenty of pop culture references, and references to TV shows and hip movies. Tarantino's direction is excellent, and so is the acting. Both Harvey Keitel and Tim Roth give performances that are among their best, while Michael Madson and Steve Buschemi are outstanding. Overall, I think it is a must. Maybe not for all, but I loved it and consider it one of Tarantino's best. 10/10 Bethany Cox… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It had no real point to it. Just another movie about a job gone wrong where everybody dies. The dialogue was one of the least impressive things about it... It was awkward and unconvincing, despite being acted by decent actors. I couldn't see the film as an unfolding story, I could only see it as Tarantino's writing. I think that seeing dudes screaming and covered in blood was supposed to cloud people's judgement with shock. The fact that the actors were good made everybody assume that the rest of the movie was good. I am an empathetic person who doesn't like violence, but even I couldn't see this as "brutal". All I saw were actors with red crap on them making hurting noises. I didn't buy it.

I loved Pulp Fiction, and I had high hopes for this movie, and I was very disapointed. Upon seeing the credits roll, I said one thing out loud:
"That was retarded."

Maybe I'm not 'getting' the movie, maybe I need to see it again, but for the time being I'm giving it a thumbs down.… Expand

Quentin Tarantino's debut is essentially a hyperviolent version of "Clue." It has the style and flair of Tarantino's other features, but not as much of the fun.

It's sad that not as many people have watched this gem. It's such a great film I did not give it a 10 because some parts drag on a bit but overall this is one of the best movies of all times in my book.

Most Directors, even the great ones, aren't always successful right out of the gate. In fact, it's a very rare thing to accomplish, but I should have known that if anyone could do it, Tarantino could. In his signature style, Tarantino heavily uses flashbacks to piece together an amazing story of a heist gone bad. The score of a lifetime is at Joe Cabot's fingertips, so he puts together a crew of six of the best criminals his city has to offer. To make sure nothing goes wrong, everyone remains anonymous and is given a nicknames. Right from the start of the film, we know that something has gone terribly wrong, but what happened? That we'll eventually find out in pieces, through flashbacks, in a style that is pure Tarantino. Even in his first film, you can see the style, classic lines, and intriguing that made Tarantino the household name that he is. Aside from flashbacks, the other thing Tarantino is known for, is putting together unlikely casts, that turn out to be perfect for the roles they are in. Harvey Kaitel as Mr. White, may very well be the best of the lot. Kaitel is at the top of his game, and while older and unlikely to be the leader of the group, he turns out to be much more, including the star of this film. Reservoir Dogs is nearly twenty-five years old and it is still as exciting and relevant today as it was then. I never thought anything would ever come close to topping Pulp Fiction as my favorite Tarantino film, but Reservoir Dogs certainly makes a compelling argument for the top spot on that list.… Expand

I believe this is Tarantino's best movie...well, to me it is definitely better than Pulp Fiction. A great movie indeed, not a 10 but close...I hope to watch it again soon. What else can I say that hasn't been mentioned yet?

This violent thriller does not reach the american nostalgic charm that Pulp Fiction created, but it certainly provides Tarantino the oppurtunity to create claustraphobic reactions for his audience and characters.

Pulp Fiction has a great story, acting and direction, but it doesn't seem real; neither does Jackie Brown. Reservoir Dogs succeeds on these terms simply because it feels so creepily real. The dialog, acting and genius plot are simply brilliant.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Reservoir Dogs was a hell of a movie. The acting was great and has some of the most memorable and brutal storylines of any movie. The brilliant dialogue made you engaged as well as this thrill of unknowing what's gonna happen next. However, I was a little disappointed. I thought that the movie could have been better if the characters were developed more. I could hardly put myself in their shoes and understand them as characters because I knew very little about them. The film should have more movement, rather than the whole movie being based in a warehouse. It gets to the point where the characters have been in a location for far too long and as audience I went: "well what's gonna happen next". I would have liked to see the original heist too because it adds on the entertainment and would have made the movie more enjoyable. Some bits of the movie just felt unfinished, other than that it was great movie, but it could have been an excellent one.… Expand

Of course this a Tarantino flick though, so there's blood lots of it and even with his first film Tarantino wasn't afraid to stir up controversy (THAT scene, you know the one that makes great use of the Stealer's Wheel song), yet even with all the violence Tarantino still makes a stylish flick with classic scenes (like THAT scene (again)). Anyway, let me talk about THIS movie.

Reservoir Dogs is a timeless classic. There are no smartphones, iPads, or laptops. Just good old fashioned killing.

No spoilers, the story is about a group of men who are pulling off a bank heist. But when it goes terribly wrong, they think they have a rat working for the police in their midst. This is followed by paranoia, suspicion, and rage. (I didn't differ very much from the IMDb description, so I don't believe any spoilers were revealed.) This story is very captivating, and the actors make it that way with no-bull performances. Michael Madsen, Tim Roth, and Chris Penn were all in the early stages of their acting careers, and this movie was their big break. In fact, if Harvey Keitel hadn't agreed to produce it and star in it, it probably wouldn't have even seen the light of day; or at least it wouldn't have been as big as it is now.

The script is very compelling and stylish. It gives a certain edge to the movie that made it better. A lot of this movie's dialogue has been quoted many times. My point- it was a very memorable movie.

Overall, you have to see Reservoir Dogs. It is a timeless classic that defined Tarantino movies for the rest of his career.… Expand

While some of the derogatory language could have been done away with, being that much of it was unnecessary and becoming so repetitive that the viewer could guess the frequency as to what words would be said at what times, this is the only real dagger that penetrated the plot, and made it somewhat tiresome of listening to.

As stated above, the film portrays the aftermath and some prologues in the movie. By prologues, I mean the beginnings of their crime filled career as a "Reservoir Dog", and they came to be assigned to this mission. Without giving too much of the story away, there are only three prologues, yet they pertain to the three most important and interesting characters in the movie, those being: Mr. White, Mr. Blonde, and Mr. Orange. That's all that will be stated about the plot, but let it be noted that the prologues are, without a doubt, not only very interesting, but are also incredibly crucial to the plot that enhance the intensity of the plot and story.

In conclusion, while this isn't one of Tarantino's most remembered movies by the average viewer, "Reservoir Dogs" is a remarkably well-written film, filled to the brim with legendary actors. On a personal level, this is Tarantino's second best, only behind the masterpiece known as "Pulp Fiction", and that's saying something. 9/10… Expand

It is bank robbery film that doesn't rely on making a spectacle of the robbery but instead having it take place in the aftermath of a robbery in a warehouse with intense suspense due to the robbers trying to figure out who the snitch is. The chemistry is brilliant on screen and this film first highlights Tarantino's brilliant writing style.

And I think that's why my initial impression was not entirely positive. But after rewatching it months later (after watching nearly all of his other movies), I realized how it's extremely thought out, entertaining narrative and magnificent acting created a masterpiece. I legitimately didn't stop smiling or cringing throughout the entire movie. The small talk between the homicidal men is underwhelming at first, but I soon came to appreciate it's slow but perfect pacing. If you like ANY of Tarantino's movies, or enjoy narrative driven films I'm general, this shouldn't be over looked.… Expand

"Are you gonna bark all day, little doggy? Or, are you gonna bite?

I use to dislike this movie as I was too young for it, but now on a second watch years later, I absolutely loved it. I really have evolved as a specie. The dialogue,"Are you gonna bark all day, little doggy? Or, are you gonna bite?

I use to dislike this movie as I was too young for it, but now on a second watch years later, I absolutely loved it. I really have evolved as a specie.

The dialogue, acting, directing, music and the ending. What's not to like.

Also major praise to Tim Roth, who spends most of the movie on the floor dying and crying in pain while drenched in fake blood.… Expand

As the first outing for actor/director/ writer Quentin Tarantino, this is a triumph, displaying all the marks of a longtime virtuoso of the genre.

The cast, which includes Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, and Michael Madsen, is first-rate, and the parts the actors have to play are fully fleshed out. Tarantino invests each member of his group with a unique and multi-faceted personality. Not content with stereotypes, the writer/director digs deeper, bringing out the humanity in even someone as viciously sadistic and reprehensible as Mr. Blonde. To go along with the characters is a surprising plot, filled with wonderful little twists and turns, and pervaded throughout by the sense of not knowing what's around the corner. The non-chronological manner in which the story is told is confusing at first, but everything eventually sorts itself out.

Tarantino's directing influences, from John Woo to Martin Scorsese, are all in evidence, and their synthesis creates a high-voltage style that's entirely his own. The writing is crisp and clean, providing line after line of snappy dialogue designed to leave the viewer alternately pondering and laughing aloud. The gallows humor and dark comedy are among many of Reservoir Dogs' defining elements. This is one of those rare motion pictures that's both intelligent and visceral at the same time.

Highly recommended with one caveat: those who are squeamish about blood should be wary. While the gore in this film isn't gratuitous, there's a great deal of it, and one particular torture scene is chillingly and vividly depicted. Gripping and gut-wrenching, Reservoir Dogs is likely to stay with you for a long time.… Expand

I'm a big Tarantino fan and this is one of my favorite films he directed. This film has a good plot and has excellent acting from. Their are some things in wrong in the film like there's too many plot holes and I think most of Mr. OrangesI'm a big Tarantino fan and this is one of my favorite films he directed. Not bad for a debut film, Tarantino exposed his unorthodox style of script-writing wherein he tackles the usual arguments that people have (like Mr. Pink not giving a tip argument). This movie is great, the best one that came out of the strange mind of Tarantino, great performances, great plot that will leave you thinking about who's the rat, great soundtrack, great ending. Tarantino's first movie remains one of his best. Reservoir Dogs is an intense and memorable crime thriller. Its greatest strengths are its clever dialogue and spirited performances. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie had A LOT of cuss words, in some dialogue unnecessarily I think. There was a lot of racial and sexist slurs as well, to build the characters perceptions of reality. The whole movie is about one specific heist gone wrong, primarily due to one of the guys being a cop and ratting out the crew. You find this out in the last half of the movie and it is a struggle for him to keep his cool to carry through the sting as he develops emotions and an odd form of loyalty to the thieves. There was a lot of blood too, and a chopped off ear. I do believe that the film tried to highlight each character (Mr. Orange, Mr. White, Mr. Brown); however, character build-up was a bit lacking as by the end of the film you still kind of wonder why someone shot someone else and you put it off to them just being unsophisticated and unprofessional (a word that one guy kept emphasizing throughout the film). Tarantino starts the movie backwards, showing the result of the heist and then providing background as the film progresses. It provides suspense and keeps you locked in. Additionally, it was interesting to see the longer scenes which were all shot in one spot and made you focus on the dialogue. I wouldn't mind watching it again as some of it was kind of funny honestly, primarily due to the profanity. Tarantino was one of the "dogs" himself.… Expand

The humble beginning of Quentin Tarantino. A criminal tale of a heist that went wrong supported by memorable and shocking characters, high doses of black humor, witty dialogues and a smashing OST. Another one that stablished a before and an after.

Un Debut excelente por parte de unos de los mejores directores de la actualidad y de la historia. Las actuaciones y el inicio es un clásico de culto y el final es bastante inesperado. Una gran película en todas las reglas.
