Nic Cage was fun and having a good time. The stylized action and blood was truly awful, the comic angles and characters were pretty weak overall. Disappointed with this one.

'What We Do in the Shadows' did it better. Anyway, looks like Nicolas Cage had a blast as Dracula.

The problem is that, it's in parts funny, satirical or serious. And all those aren't really working well in this movie. I did like the old version of Dracula, but all the rest wasn't that engaging. The rhythm wasn't great, the jokes fall flat a lot, the action was over the top. The acting was fine by me but the story didn't exploited the talent of the actors. I give it 52%. I had to watch it in two parts because I was bored in the middle. What we do in the shadows did a better job in terms of satirical comedy, but this film is in too many niches. Expand

Renfield struggles to survive beyond the primary resource it delivers. Even though the dynamic between its leads is very good, which is the best thing it has to offer.
Nicolas Cage is really good in the role of Dracula, while Nicholas Hoult doesn't exactly have the best comic timing, but he pulls off the role.

The problem lies in the fact that its concept fails to produce a more entertaining exploration between the humor and the violence and instead goes for a plot that doesn't suit the main characters because they both feel external to the rest of the events.

Renfield is a graphic and humorous movie. One is grateful that it embraces those two elements without reservation since it could have ended up much more toned down for a more mainstream audience, but that's not enough to pull it out of being a trivial endeavor that exhausts its interest the second the credits start to roll.

Theres a scatalogical loke, the specifics escape me, but at that moment the movie gives up. Tonally shifts. If you find most current mainstream hollywood movies satisfying then you'll be fine, have fun I say. More power to you. Expand

Brutally as to the way this renfield movie sounds it wasn't worth it, is not easy making a movie but still please we want something new in this refurbishing world. Expand

Nicholas Hoult is also lovable as Renfield. The Nicks truly kill it! The action scenes are surprisingly enjoyable with how well choreographed and how they really utilise that R rating. Unfortunately, Awkwafina's character and her boring plot to take down a mob take a lot of screen time. The movie wastes its unique premise and makes it a cliché movie. Nevertheless, the short runtime of 93 minutes makes it a good watch to kill time. Expand

Cage is having a ball, some of the action is solid, and the campy horror aspects occasionally hit. But altogether feels like a missed opportunity.

The opening act is quite powerful. the blood and gore. the humor—mostly. a brief duration. Cons: certain poor CGI and certain speech, action, and musical choices that seemed 10-15 years old. A number of wildly implausible or absurd character or plot developments (I realise it's a fantasy movie) Awkwafina and the remaining supporting members are in the middle. Ben Shwartz is amusing as always, but he continues to play the same character. Despite being brief, the film felt longer than it was. Could've given the writing more impact. The bugs ruse. Expand

In a film about Dracula, his assistant and world domination, Nicholas Cage strikes back. It sounds good at first but after watching it, it's a bit of a letdown.

Nicholas Cage is a great actor as Dracula but the film focuses on the wrong aspects. I and possibly many others would have liked it to focus on Dracula during his most famous times, and not in the modern world.

You took a famous character and sidelined him in the plot, that's a difficult job to accomplish especially when the actual main character of the story isn't really interesting.
I mean I like that it focuses on the assistant but it wasn't executed as well, due to the period it is set in, his motive, and the overall supporting cast.

Is this a bad movie, Not necessarily, the action and Gore scenes are ridiculously funny and entertaining.
The plot and story are plausible, and the characters are ok, not amazing.

RATINGS:
VFX and Effects: 8/10, Not bad, enjoyable to see practicals in the works.
Story and Plot: 5/10, The beginning is good, the rest is just ugh.
Characters: 6/10, It's Nicholas Cage as Dracula, a free point is given.

Overall, 6/10, it's enjoyable, but not really something you need to go out and see. It took me 2 sessions to finish because there is kind of a boring area somewhere near the middle of the film, but it picks up. It would have been great to focus on Dracula and Renfield in older times instead of modern times.

Fun if you can turn your brain off and can get into it, but the message of the story doesn't particularly translate well and Nicholas Cage is definitely out of place in a movie like this, he is underutilized.

Nick Cage is pretty entertaining as Dracula the guy who plays Renfield isnt bad, the rest of the cast... meh. especially the female lead. she was unlikable and her acting was not very good. Rebecca i think her name was, i don't remember she was very forgettable. The plot is Renfield is getting tired of being in a abusive relationship which they try to play for comedic affect but most of the jokes in the movie just fall flat.
The action is over the top and bloody ridicules which is about the only thing i found remotely funny or entertaining. Its about the only thing that saved me from not just shutting this off halfway through. cant recommend it

The action sequences were clearly the focus point with plenty of creative deaths to enjoy! The potential of the cage hoult back and forth was compelling and sadly not explored to its full potential. I believe Awkwafina was a poor casting choice as the female lead. Her shrill tone and unconvincingly competent action acting were an unwelcome distraction. I cant wait for hollyweird to go back to casting beautiful female actors again. Expand

Renfield has it's moments but ultimately fails to take full advantage of a zany, Nic Cage performance by serving up an unevenly paced, disjointed crime plot around a CGI blood-filled horror/comedy that can't offer much in either category.

Well I had great fun watching it. Maybe a bit biased as I'm a huge Nick Cage fan, likeable characters, good action sequences and doesn't take itself too seriously.
